What a wild week. Tomorrow I’m escaping to Mexico. Before I go, let’s straighten out another rumor. There was a report from the industry that Easyriders was in financial trouble again. I contacted the Boss, Joe Teresi and he wanted to know where the rumor originated. “Sounds like wishful thinking on a competitor’s part,” Joe said. “We’re kickin’ ass – copy sales and ad pages up more than any of the competition.” In other words ER is rockin’. Another rumor shot in the ass.
I’m on the edge of my seat, but we all need to thank our lucky metal flake stars. The weather’s been rough this year on plenty of Americans who could care less, now, about antique motorcycles, collections or chrome. They’re lucky to find a home, a job or, in some case a beer. Something to think about. Some 15 minutes can change your prospective on life forever.
So two things come to mind, maybe three. Count your blessings, for lack of a better way to put it. Do something for a neighbor, brother or charity whenever you have a chance. Finally, keep a constant vigil for terrorists. They need their asses kicked right out of the solar system. They’re fucking with our freedoms. Let’s hit the news:

DESTINATION DAYTONA REPORT–The much anticipated Destination Daytona has been called many things – a biker’s paradise, a motorcycle enthusiasts amusement park, candy for the kid in you, but here’s a new one… OPEN!
Located at the corner of US1 and I-95 in Ormond Beach Destination Daytona, a sprawling 150 acres dedicated to all things motorcycles, opens for business Monday September 26th… just in time for Biketoberfest?! A city within itself, this motorcycle monstrosity is home to Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Harley-Davidson, weighing in at 109,000 square feet making it the largest Harley-Davidson dealership in the world!
It’s easy to see why Bruce refers to the dealership as “The Big Daddy of Harley-Davidson Dealerships,” walking through an outrageous 53,953 sq. ft. showroom (36,463 sq. ft. larger then a standard showroom), with over 200 motorcycles, escalators, and various lounges, a 9,800 sq. ft. MotorClothes? area and a 45,897 sq. ft. service department, located on the second floor (28,407 sq. ft. larger then a standard service department!).
Phase I (50 of 150 acres) is almost complete with a two-story 56 room hotel/condominium, and foundations for numerous amenities including numerous restaurants, Bruster’s Real Ice Cream, Subway?, Krispy Kreme Donuts?, Hot Dog Heaven, 20 acres of parking (relax, they’ll have shuttles), two themed bars and two retail buildings for motorcycle related purveyors. Phase II will be developed in the future, consisting of over 100 acres and encompassing over 3?4 of a mile along I-95.
While Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Harley-Davidson Shop and activities on Beach Street will remain in full swing, Destination Daytona and the Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Harley-Davidson in Ormond beach will afford an opportunity for bikers to have another venue to ride to and enjoy while escaping downtown congestion.
Rock legends Foreigner will perform at Destination Daytona on Friday, October 21st followed by ZZ Top on Saturday, October 22nd. Both concerts start at 8pm (see below for more info).
The Seminole Hard Rock Roadhouse 2005, sponsored by Bikernet.com, will set up shop at Destination Daytona for its third stop from October 20th – 23rd. BIKERNET THURSDAY NEWS–Read the Thursday News with great interest. I can’t speak for the industry as a whole, but I know the dealerships and their staffs around NorCal read your stuff. I get shit about my contributions all the time. Kinda gives me a warm spot in my heart to have a mechanic tell me my solution to a reader’s tech problem was “mostly right”. Ha! The good thing is now, if I’m only half-sure about a solution, I can call into three different dealerships and get a tech on the line for advice….And if I go over at their lunch hours, they don’t just pat me on the head and tell me to bring my bike in. They know if they explain something to me, I understand what they’re talking about….pretty cool in my book…

BIKERNET FARMERS ALMANAC–An old hillbilly farmer had a wife who nagged him unmercifully. From morning till night (and sometimes later), she was always complaining about something. The only time he got any relief was when he was out plowing with his old mule. He tried to plow a lot.
One day, when he was out plowing, his wife brought him lunch in the field. He drove the old mule into the shade, sat down on a stump, and began to eat his lunch. Immediately, his wife began haranguing him again. Complain, nag, nag; it just went on and on. All of a sudden, the old mule lashed out with both hind feet; caught her smack in the back of the head. Killed her dead on the spot.
At the funeral several days later, the minister noticed something rather odd. When a woman mourner would approach the old farmer, he would listen for a minute, then nod his head in agreement; but when a man mourner approached him, he would listen for a minute, then shake his head in disagreement. This was so consistent, the minister decided to ask the old farmer about it.
So after the funeral, the minister spoke to the old farmer, and asked him why he nodded his head and agreed with the women, but always shook his head and disagreed with all the men.
The old farmer said: “Well, the women would come up and say something about how nice my wife looked, or how pretty her dress was, so I’d nod my head in agreement.”
“And what about the men?” the minister asked.
“They all wanted to know if the mule was for sale.”

STRESS TEST– I am not sure exactly how it works, but this is amazingly accurate.Read the full description before looking at the picture.
The picture below has 2 identical dolphinsin it. It was used in a case study on stress level at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Look at both dolphins jumping out of the water. The dolphins are identical.
A closely monitored, scientific study of a group revealed that in spite of the fact that the dolphins are identical, a person under stress would find differences in the two dolphins.
If there are many differences found between both dolphins, it means that the person is experiencing a great amount of stress. Look at the photograph and if you find more than one or two differences you may want to take a vacation.

MOTORCYCLE SAFETY FOUNDATION ADVOCATES REGULAR SCHOOLING–The Motorcycle Safety Foundation wants motorcyclists to get back to school on a regular basis.
In an address to the Fifth International Motorcycle Conference, the President of the American Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Tim Buche called for a “safety renewal” program, which essentially would involve ongoing rider training with a variety or courses to fit the rider’s needs and abilities.
During his presentation to the Conference, held in Munich, Germany in conjunction with the Intermot Show, Buche addressed the fact that most research has shown little benefit from the current U.S. rider-training formula, which essentially calls for a single, basic training course. Although such training, which in mandatory in some states for younger riders, appears to have an initial benefit lasting perhaps six months for new riders, it doesn’t have any measurable benefits in longer terms.
Buche announced new research that looks at more parameters (which, of course, Buche expects to reveal some unrecognized benefits) and to focus in particular on repetitive training, where a rider would follow up his initial training with additional courses tailored for those with more experience and skills.

MAYOR OF TIMNATH HAPPY TO SEE RUN LEAVE–Donna Benson didn’t shed any tears when a bar on Main Street in her tiny town of Timnath was no longer the site for the Catholic School Girl Benefit Poker Run.Yes, that’s the same motorcycle-filled-event that put the Duke of Windsor under a negative spotlight.
“Nobody’s surprised in Timnath. I think your average person would not be comfortable with these kinds of behavior going on,” Benson said. “We’re very glad it’s out of Timnath. One person once told me, ‘I have been kicked out of every bar in Fort Collins, and I’ve never done anything like that.’ I thought that put it in perspective.”
An investigation by the Colorado Department of Revenue’s Liquor License Division centering on illegal conduct June 25 should wrap up this week, but the pornographic DVD of lewd acts taking place on a pool table in the Duke remains for sale on the U.M.F. of America’s Web site.
It was activities such as what took place that day at the Duke that drove the Colorado Feed & Grain Roadhouse in Timnath out of business. Timnath is located northwest of Windsor in Larimer County.
The Timnath Liquor Licensing Authority didn’t renew Feed & Grain’s annual liquor license last fall, and the building sits empty today.
“We didn’t close it. We just didn’t renew his liquor license,” said Benson, referring to Feed & Grain owner Jon Metcalf.
Noise disturbances, beer bottles and other trash surrounding the bar and lewd behavior connected to the Catholic School Girl Benefit Poker Run, as well as similar behavior at other times, were reasons for the town licensing authority not to renew the bar’s liquor license, although it could have still remained open and served food without the liquor license.
“That run is a once-a-year thing, but there were similar incidents on many weekends,” Benson said. “The Feed & Grain is right downtown and it was right in the parking lot. One time, the School Girl Run was Sunday morning, so people got to drive by on their way to church and see more than they really wanted to see.”
Benson thinks the Catholic School Girl Run would be more appropriate out in the middle of a couple of hundred acres, and not in the middle of town of 220 people.
“We never had a problem with people getting together, having a few beers and riding a bike through town, but it’s way beyond that,” Benson said.
Severance bar owner Bruce Ruth, who has owned Bruce’s Bar for the past 50 years, has hosted Bruce’s annual Nut Run for the last 23 years where more than 6,000 bikers show up on a Sunday in September to eat his world-famous, deep-fried Rocky Mountain oysters. Ruth, 72, said he’s been approached to hold the Catholic School Girl Benefit Poker Run, but he turned them down. Ruth said if anyone wanted to hold such a run at his establishment, he’d tell them to get off his property.
“I don’t need that. I want the right people in my place. They’re not welcome here,” Ruth said. “I don’t have anybody taking movies, and I don’t allow anybody to take pictures. I’ve got a good business going without somebody trying to screw it up.”
Benson said the bikers who used to frequent Timnath during past Catholic School Girl Runs paid their own tribute to town officials before they headed to Windsor this past June.
“That day they did have a group here videotaping people coming through town,” Benson said. “A number of motorcycles made a point of not stopping at the stop sign and making a gesture toward Timnath and riding through town.”

WELD INTRODUCES NEW WHEEL SIZES–Kansas City, MO- Weld Racing Motorcycle recently announced the addition of 3 new wheel designs for their “Flare Series.” The first wheel in the “Flare Series” was the Forged wire which has received “rave reviews” from builders and dealers alike.
The wheels pictured here are the Blue Max, Korona and the Razr-3, all featuring a unique built-in hub. The integrated hub greatly reduces the run out in the wheel, reduces weight and allows the design to continue onto the hub face of the actual patent pending wheel itself.
The “Flare Series” wheels will have much more dimension to them and will appear to have a 3D effect. All the “flare series” front wheels have an integrated hub and the rears are either pulley/hub or driveside. You must use Weld’s rotors and pulleys on this series of wheels.

Once beer was discovered it required grain, and that was thebeginning of agriculture. Neither the glass bottle nor aluminum can wasinvented yet, so while our early human ancestors were sitting aroundwaiting for them to be invented, they just stayed close to the brewery.That’s how villages were form! ed.
Some men spent their days tracking and killing animals to BBQ atnight while they were drinking beer. This was the beginning of what isknown as the Conservative movement. Other men who were weaker and lessskilled at hunting learned to live off the conservatives by showing upfor the nightly BBQ and doing the sewing, fetching and hair dressing.This was the beginning of the Liberal movement.
Some of these liberal men eventually evolved into women. The restbecame known as girliemen. Some noteworthy liberal achievements includethe domestication of cats, the trade union, the invention of grouptherapy and group hugs, and the concept of Democratic voting to decidehow to divide the meat and beer that conservatives provided.
Over the years conservatives came to be symbolized by thelargest, most powerful land animal on earth, the elephant. Liberals aresymbolized by the jackass. Modern liberals like imported beer (with limeadded), but most prefer white wine or imported bottled water. They eatraw fish, but like their beef well done. Sushi, tofu, and French food arestandard liberal fare. Another evolutionary side note: most of theirwomen have higher testosterone levels than their men.
Most social workers, personal injury attorneys, journalists,dreamers in Hollywood and group therapists are liberals. Liberalsinvented the designated hitter rule in baseball, because it wasn’t fairto make the pitcher also bat. Conservatives drink domestic beer. They eatred meat and still provide for their women. Conservatives are rodeocowboys, lumberjacks, construction workers, medical doctors, policeofficers, corporate executives, soldiers, athletes, and generally anyonewho works productively outside government. Conservatives who owncompanies hire other conservatives who want to work for a living.
Liberals produce little or nothing. They like to govern theproducers and decide what to do with the production. Liberals believethat Europeans are more enlightened than Americans. That is why most ofthe liberals remained in Europe when conservatives were coming toAmerica. The liberals crept in after the Wild West was tamed, and createda business of trying to get MORE for nothing.

MAN ACCUSED OF FORGERY–A 22-year-old man was arrested yesterday in connection with a Aug. 9 incident in which a 24-year-old man reported that one of his personal checks was stolen from the mail.
Police believe the younger man forged the check and gave it to a transvestite prostitute in Wahiawa for services rendered.
The suspect was arrested about 9:30 p.m. yesterday for suspicion of second-degree forgery.

THREE FLORIDA MOTORCYCLE SAFETY PROPOSALS PRESENTED TO GOVERNOR JEB BUSH–1. Increase the required insurance for non-helmeted riders from $10,000 to $50,000
2. Require all motorcycle riders to take the Motorcycle Safety Course to obtain a Motorcycle Endorsement on their driver’s license.
3. Require a special-colored license plate for all riders under the age of 21.
I am personally against all 3 and will be working to see that they do not become law. Motorcycle Rides can help by notifying their Motorcycle Rights Organizations and Elected Officials that they are against these laws.

BIKERNET WHITEHOUSE INSIDER REPORT–Donald Rumsfeld is giving the president his daily briefing. During thebrief, he says “Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed.”

FIGHT OVER FLORIDA MOTORCYCLE TRAINING–Tallahassee.com, FL – At the intersection of midlife crisis and high gas prices, balding bikers can get hurt.That’s one reason the state wants all motorcycle drivers to take a special safety course. It isn’t just for youngsters anymore.
Another factor is the boom in bike sales and use in recent years. A lobbyist for an organization of 7,000 motorcycle enthusiasts said that, when they have the choice, a lot of people who own a car and a motorcycle will take the one that gets 50 miles a gallon or more.
“My theory is that a lot of folks are getting out there, 50 years old, and buying their first motorcycle – and it’s the big boy,” Fred Dickinson, director of the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, said at a recent Cabinet meeting. He said “we all grew up on” much smaller motorcycles.
The department said the number of motorcycles registered in Florida rose from 445,896 in fiscal 2003-04 to 498,968 in the year that ended June 30. It estimated that more than 465,000 are registered so far this year, a pace likely to surpass last year’s mark.And there are often two or more riders to a bike.
“There’s a phenomenal increase,” Gov. Jeb Bush told Dickinson. “I think it’s 80 percent in three years’ time.”The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has charted a rapid increase in motorcyclist fatalities since Florida repealed its mandatory helmet law in 2000. There were 933 bikers killed in Florida over the past three years, compared to 515 between 1997 and 1999.
James “Doc” Reichenbach, president of ABATE Florida, said the riders’ lobbying group supports the safety training requirement but believes the figures are misleading. He agreed with Bush and Dickinson, who said the NHTSA study didn’t take into account the vast increase in ridership – and Reichenbach added that cyclists weren’t at fault in a lot of car-motorcycle collisions.
The department’s legislative package for 2006 includes a requirement that motorists who add the motorcycle endorsement to their licenses take a state-approved safety course. Dickinson said a typical 15-hour course, offered at 49 locations around the state, costs about $190 to $300.”This is a gut reaction to the NHTSA report that came out,” Reichenbach said.
Dickinson’s office said there are nearly 750,000 licensed motorcycle operators in the state. They would be “grandfathered in,” not required to take the safety course.”The bottom line is that nobody (since 2002) has been killed on the highways of Florida that graduated from this course,” he said.
During a break from the weekend class he teaches in Jefferson County, Al Wofford fired up his “Boss Hoss” motorcycle – a specialized monster with a 385-hp Chevrolet engine – and said safety is mostly in the mind. He said that “92 percent of motorcycle crashes occur among self-taught riders” and that the biggest cause of single-bike crashes is “failure to negotiate a turn properly.”
Wofford is a Florida Highway Patrol captain who has been training motorcycle cops for 23 years. He also has taught civilians for the past six years and said rider visibility is something all motorists need to learn.”In 31 years of law enforcement, I must have heard 1,000 drivers tell me they didn’t see a motorcycle,” said Wofford. “They look right at you and don’t see you.Except for single motorcycle crashes, Wofford said, he generally believes that cyclists get a bum rap on safety.
“I’ve never seen somebody applying makeup or searching for a CD or reading the newspaper while driving a motorcycle,” he said.”The amazing thing about this course is, I’m a better car driver,” said Ralph Haben, a prominent lobbyist who said he returns to Wofford’s school occasionally for an advanced “experienced rider course.”
Reichenbach said taking a safety course specially tailored to motorcycling “is a great idea.” But if the state wants to require it, he said, there should be standardized fees and course content.
“There has to be a set, fair fee,” Reichenbach said. “They ought to make it affordable.”Melissa Savage, a research analyst for the National Conference of State Legislatures, said 47 states have motorcycle safety courses but only six mandate them for all motorcycle riders.
NEWS FROM THE CAPITAL–NHTSA Meeting, Jay Jackson and I attended a NHTSA motorcycle safety networkmeeting last week. This is the second in an ongoing series of meetings. Alsoin attendance were, Harley Davidson, Honda, Kawasaki, AMA, MSF lots ofgovernment folks and state motorcycle administrator’s rep.
The meeting was actuallyvery productive, focusing on impaired riding. The dialogue is open and honest, noreal solutions but open still the same. There was also lots of talk aboutour grant program and the advisory council. I found it kind of interesting thatthe same group of people who in May said “they could not support the grantprogram” were now heralding it as one of the best parts of the highway bill. At leastthey take us very seriously now that we have shown our teeth.
The meetings are scheduled quarterly and I hope they open up the lines ofcommunication. NHTSA has been trying to save motorcyclists lives for yearson their own and to no avail, I see this as them swallowing their pride andasking us for help. They seem genuinely engaged on the issue and want to reducefatalities just like we do.
Other topics included a braking study on ABS vs. traditional that NHTSA did.ABS was shown to be more reliable in different weather, weight and roadconditions. duh! NHTSA also reported on the Florida repeal study and another study to bedone in Louisiana on the reinstatement study and that will be all for helmetstudies after that. They finally got the message I guess, keep their nosesout of states rights. They are also attempting a motorcycle character study andhave asked the MRF to assist with this. If you have any issues that youwould like me to raise at the next meeting, just let me know and Ill be glad to doso. The next meeting is scheduled for January.
Things on the Hill are very slow these days. Next week the House is insession for one day (Thursday) and then both chambers are taking a week off for theColumbus Day recess period. Please check in with your federal electedofficials to determine if they are having any town hall meetings or open events thatyou can attend. If they are let me know so we can get the word out. Many memberswill be going into “mail jail” depending on the state election law. MailJail is simply a period of time where the incumbent cannot use the frankingprivilege (otherwise know as free mail) to level the playing field for theopponent. Members typically send out district wide mailings to notify everyperson of an event or just to let them know what is happening. Essentiallyits free publicity, a standard district wide newsletter can cost the federalgovernment over $50,000.00 per mailing saving the cash strapped campaigns alot of money. The point is that the ban on franked mail is approaching many andsome are already in the ban. To that end the Columbus Day recess period is apopular time to hold town halls.
HIPAA,Please push your states to get on the ball call your House and Senatemembers of congress to ask for co sponsorship. The committee is not acting very quicklyand we need more co sponsors. CLUB COLORS OKAY AT THE WHITE HOUSE, BUT NOT AT THE IRON HORSE SALOON– While Motorcycle Club Colors may not be welcome at many places in this country, especially in Daytona Beach, it was GREAT to see they were welcomed at the White House! We can only hope someday the “color-friendly” attitude shown by the White House will eventually extend across the country. Lookin’ at this picture, I had to ask myself, “If President Bush showed up at one ofthe “non-friendly” Daytona establishments wearing a set of these Colors would he beturned away? (Asking that question about Kerry would be impossible – he would neverget accepted as a probate to the USMVMC, much less earn Colors. (No integrity, nocharacter, no understanding of Brotherhood and definitely no loyalty to his fellow Vets.That became apparent the day I showed up at one of our events with fifty “Viet NamVeterans against John Kerry” bumper stickers and was mobbed by my Brothers. I never cease to be amazed at the attitude most of the establishments on Main Street in Daytona, as well as some of the “world renowned” places north of Daytona, show to a biker flyin’ Club Colors. In most establishments this policy has even extended to HOG, CMA, and even the ‘Bad Bones’ patch anyone with $20 can buy from a vendor. WHY?

Stinking hot day – made me wonder about the sanity of drag racers. Format was Chicago shootout – pan went 13.3 at 98 during qualifying. Dialed in at 13.3 for round one, cut a good light, wheel stood backed off and run off my dial in 13.7. Next round red lighted. Third race cut a perfect light .000 (.400) but lost with a break out. However track offers $200 for a perfect light during racing so didn’t go home empty handed. I’ll scan the time cards in and send over. No place you can hide a delay box on a suicide-clutch, jockey shifted pan. President of the Rebels MC rang today and asked if I’d judge the car and bike show coming up this Saturday. Had to say yes but that means no chance of me picking up a trophy. I’ll still polish the pan and enter it in the show. Really gifted painter coming up “Little Mick” who does fantastic biker art. I’ll take some pics and send over. Saturday after is the all bike meet and the drag club rang up and asked if I’d scrutineer the bikes. Can’t say no – means I’ve got to be out of bed at sparrow fart. The president of the local HOG chapter asked if I’d coach some of the club members on the lights, staging, etc. E-mailed the HOG club last night and offered drag racing coaching lessons if any of their members want to come out to a test and tune on Friday night. There’s about 100 members locally and Palmyra DC offers a special bracket for the HOG racers. Really good prize money and trophies but for some reason not many of them come out to race which is pretty disappointing. SAMSON/RAY PRICE NITRO HARLEY TAKES WORLD RECORD AT RT. 66 RACEWAY– Nitro racer, Tommy Grimes of the Samson/Ray Price Nitro Harley Racing took home ALL the honors at the NHRA POWERade 5th Annual Ameriquest Mortgage Company NHRA Nationals at the world class Rt. 66 Raceway in Joliet, IL.
With the legendary Ray Price as teacher, Grimes took the team to victory lane with a win and a world record series of passes at the Screamin’ Eagle Nitro Harley Exhibition Series. Grimes qualified 2nd in one of the most prestigious fields in Nitro Harley drag racing with a 6.423 ET at 198.38.
In the eliminations on Sunday, Grimes ran a scorching 6.256 ET at 220.62 mph, the quickest pass on a Nitro Harley. In the 2nd round, the rookie rider maintained his composure to run a 6.290ET for a back up for the World record at 222.51 mph, the fastest time of the meet.
In the Finals, Grimes ran 6.336 ET at 220.04 to out power Doug Vancil’s 6.393 ET at 203.58 mph.

BIKERNET STEALTH REPORT FROM NC–As I write this the rain is pouring down her in Charlotte. The STEALTH BIKE WORKS poker run to benefit the American Red Cross’s hurricane relief efforts is being threatened, but such is life we can not control the weather. The poker run is scheduled for this Saturday Oct. 8th.
Not much to report on here at SBW this week. It has been a good week for business this week. Our service area for the first time has been full so that is a good sign. We are slowly but surely building our customer base.
Just a few things to let loose on this week. First have you noticed how lame all those tv reality shows have become. First we have Trump with his apprentice show with all the yuppies fighting for a chance to be his #1 butt wipe. Most of these people are already very successful and some already have millions. So with that thought, why would you want to work for anyone else? While watching TV last night I saw where that old jail bird Martha Stewart has her own version of The Apprentice. This is a strange one, she gets out of the “big house” and people want to work for her and be like her???? I don’t get it! I wonder who the next ex-con will be to get their own TV show?
The list of these shows goes on with the likes of who can lose the most wait to the “Nanny” coming to your house to straighten all your problems out. I know you are wondering how I know about all of these shows, well every once in awhile I get trapped by “THE MEANEST” and I have to sit throught it. That’s the truth! Please Discovery Channel, bring back the bike build-offs! Okay enough already! It is a good thing we have BIKERNET to get away from this.
Speaking of Bikernet, you know I was thinking about all the people I have met over the years through Bikernet and the list is pretty big. When I say the people I have met I mean not only in person but through this site, the “Your Shot” page, and the regular contributors. Bikernet is a common ground for all of us. BIKERNET BONNEVILLE EFFORT–Bonneville is addicting. It’s salt flat hell of 60 square miles. If you want test overall limits it’s the way to go. Well a handful of us may make a run to attain 200mph club status. The initial design is to create a Panhead Sportbike with a 120-inch Accurate Engineering engine, Baker Transmission, a John Reed designed Custom Chrome, Santee Built, V-Frame. We’re talking about turbo-charging the unit with a Nick and Charlie, Custom Performance job out of Phoenix.
Wait, here’s a couple of highlights. I will cover all aspects of the build on Bikernet. I’ll work with a motorcycle mag to supplement the coverage. Then, I’ll ride this sucker to Sturgis next year, but here’s the icing on the cake. I’ll ride it to Bonneville, then the lovely Valerie, from Custom Performance, will race it for the record books. Hey, don’t get pissed. She weighs half of what I do.
Currently Departure Bike Works, Accurate Engineering, Custom Performance, Baker and CCI are on board. Hang on as the reports start to emerge.
PRO TUNING CENTER LIST GROWING– The new S&S Training and Certification Facility in La Crosse , Wisconsin, is open and offering VFI and Sidewinder courses. The second class to run through the week-long Pro Tuning session that incorporates these two courses came from Gateway Big Dog in Maryland Heights, Missouri-and they hold the distinction of being the second Certified Pro Tuning Center in the country.
Pro Tuning Center certification is achieved when two or more VFI and Sidewinder qualified technicians are on staff at a given S&S dealer–equipped with the proper tools and dynamometer in order to become certified. These courses give students the ins-and-outs of performance, oiling systems, carburetors, exhaust and tuning on both S&S and Harley-Davidson engines. All of the tuning and performance verification is done on SuperFlow dynamometers and the technicians utilize a complete shop full of MAC Tools during their training.
“Wow. I have worked on V-Twins sine the late ’80s, but I was always hesitant to take on truing the flywheels. It’s like a black magic that only one guy in town usually does,” said Greg Kottman, owner of Gateway Big Dog. “Now that we have done it as part of the school, it is no longer intimidating. In fact, it is something we are looking forward to doing as soon as possible. My technicians that attended the school are re-energized and ready to apply what they learned in VFI Training to the many fuel-injected Harley-Davidson motorcycles that are on the road now.”
“I recommend this class for anyone that wants to keep up with where the industry is going,” said Brian Dillender, Lead Technician at Gateway Big Dog. “You can see the future of the V-Twin industry is Fuel Injection and this is the best way I have seen to get ahead of the curve on working with it.”
“This was a great class to work with,” said S&S Instructor Jon “Opee” Olson. “Since Gateway is a Big Dog dealer, their familiarity with our products allowed us to move into many extra modules of our curriculum, moving their class along at a really exciting pace.”
MOTORCYCLE MURDERER APPEALS CONVICTION–Former South Dakota Governor Bill Janklow appealed his manslaughter conviction before the South Dakota Supreme Court, Tuesday. Janklow was convicted last December for the traffic accident that killed a Minnesota motorcyclist Randy Scott. Janklow was sentenced to 100 days in jail and three years probation. In South Dakota, all felony convictions are automatically appealed to the state Supreme Court.
Mitchell, S.D. – Bill Janklow was not present at the oral arguments before South Dakota’s Supreme Court. But the theater at Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, was packed with students and the curious. Janklow’s lawyer said the trial judge made several mistakes. In order to convict someone of manslaughter or reckless driving, South Dakota state law says there has to be a conscious disregard of the outcome. Conscious is the key word here.
Defense attorney Ed Evans represented Bill Janklow. Evans said Janklow was in a diabetic stupor at the time of the accident. The attorney claimed Janklow’s judgement was impaired and that he was not conscious of the outcome of his actions. Evans said the trial judge failed to properly instruct the jury about the definition of the term unconscious. Evans said legally, it means your judgement is impaired because of your medical condition.
One judge asked Evans if defense experts defined the term during the trial.”From a medical standpoint they talked about confusion and the sugar, and how it impacts the brain, but they never said the legal definition of conscious or unconscious is as follows,” Evans said. “They talked in medical terms, not in legal terms which again is important why we needed the term defined from a legal standpoint as to what unconscious means under the law.”
The state’s attorney said the common sense definition of unconscious is enough in this case. Patricia Archer, Assistant Attorney General, said the evidence proved Janklow was driving recklessly and knew the risks when he hit Randy Scott. She described the evidence leading up to the accident. First, Janklow passed a car at a high rate of speed.
“Finally, you’ve got him at the last split second,” Archer said. “He yells out a warning to Brandlin (passenger in the car), ‘Look out,’ and he slams on his breaks.
His own expert testified that those breaks were fully engaged. The defendant had hit the breaks. Now somebody who was unconscious, even under the defendant’s proposed theory would not have had even enough awareness to do that. That’s the state’s position.”

Hey,
I learned a dipshit lesson this week. It was a reminder to slow down and check the facts. It also told me that the industry is reading Bikernet. Rumors were flying over the last couple of weeks. I was told that S&S was sold. I doubted it for several reasons, but mentioned it, while checking with S&S. I’m sensitive about the success of this entire industry and all within it, from the big businesses to the guy on the street. But that doesn’t mean I won’t make a mistake from time to time. S&S is not for sale and according to Brett Smith, “That’s the last thought on my mind.”
Then a brother calls and told me that Advanstar sold. They’re a massive company who produce the Indy show. I checked with a company executive and he told that the company is for sale, but it hasn’t happened and won’t happen until the first quarter of 2006. Then another bird whispered in my ear the Easyriders was in trouble again and that did it. Rumors make for good press, but this goes beyond that.
Regarding Bikernet, our numbers are in for September. We hit 209,000 unique users, 363, 000 visitors, 767,000 impressions and 6.8 million hits. Sure a wild rumor gets the industry talking, but it can also cause problems, squelch deals, lose jobs and hammer relationships. Producing Bikernet goes beyond making a buck or being crass journalists. It’s about an industry I call my family. Sure, I’m pissed, from time to time, or I feel jacked around, but that’s always a reminder not to lower myself or this site to bullshit levels. Let’s hit the news:
SPEED DEMON SHOW STURGIS CONCLUSION– Hank Young entered the August 6 – 13, 2005 Michael Lichter Presents “Speed Demons, Race Inspired Motorcycle Art” at The Journey Museum in Sturgis. He took many of the event participants by surprise with his creative craftsmanship. Most builders created retro boardtrack racers while Young built this Bonneville land speed racer inspired bike called Elam.

World Championship to include ‘Licensed Manufacturer’ sub-class– AMD has confirmed sub-class arrangements for the second annual Official World Championship of Custom Bike Building, being held at the Big Twin West/Custom Chrome Dealer Show, at the Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, November 18 through 20.
All bikes will automatically be entered into the main ‘FreeStyle’ class, from which the competitors themselves will judge the World Champion builder.
However, in order to avoid the uncertainty that occurred at the first World Championship, the sub-classes have been re-defined. There will now be four.
There is a specific class for bikes based on Custom Chrome Motorcycle ‘kits’ (formerly HR3’s), and the ‘OE’ class that was confusing in 2004 is now represented by two clear, specific and separate sub-classes.
The ‘Licensed Manufacturer’ class will be an option for all builders, assemblers and manufacturers who enter a bike with the appropriate sticker. The bike can be a ‘stock’ example of the firm’s production series bikes, it can be a modified version of a production bike, or it can be a one-off custom bike with some (or fewer!) features of the firm’s production bike program, if they have one.
There will also be a specific class for ‘Modified Harley-Davidsons’. This will be an option for bikes built using either a stock Harley-Davidson frame, engine or both.
A sponsored ‘Metric’ sub-class has also been added for this year.
As of October 6th, 61 entrants have completed the (necessary) Official Entry Form, indicating that they will be entering 89 bikes in total. An additional 70 further builders have completed preliminary paperwork indicating their intention to compete.
Registration at the Mandalay Bay will open at 12.00 noon on Wednesday November 16th; the World Championship and Big Twin West Dealer Show open to trade visitors at 10.00 AM on Friday November 18th.
Judging will be by the competitors themselves, invited custom media journalists and selected exhibitor VIP’s. Judging will close at 2.00 PM on Saturday November 19th, with the 2005 World Champion being announced in an awards ceremony that will start at 6.00 pm Saturday November 19th.

I just returned from a meeting of the Oregon Confederation of Clubs (COC), downin Canyonville, OR. This 2005 summer, we continued the new practice of meetingMONTHLY in different towns around the state. Kind of spreading the thing around.And more members from the various clubs and other rider groups can more easilyattend and see what goes on. I didn?t count the attendance, but it sure feelsgood to see the interest in the COC from around the state.
As in every meeting, clubs and other rider groups are cordially invited to senda rep to look us over. THE COC is here to serve the interests of all motorcyclegroups through action, both in the Courts and otherwise. That includes you folkswho ride those speedy sport bikes, or the very fuel-efficient motor scooters weare seeing. It doesn’t matter what you ride, your group is welcome to send arep. By working together we can accomplish so much more.
There were two things that struck me at this meeting. We need more participationfrom everyone involved in the confederation, and we need to get our people tothe capitols of our states when our legislatures are in session. Electedofficials pay attention to people who care enough about their issues to show upand be seen. If we aren’t a presence in their minds they have other things todo. The SQUEAKY WHEEL GETS THE GREASE. We need to let those folks know we careenough to go and talk to them.

NIGERIA: The Nigerian “Motocycle” Union received a letter from the NigerianCommissioner of Information, asking their members to be law-abiding, to registertheir bikes, and to get their motorcycle licenses. He also commended thisNigerian biker group for their efforts in finding jobs for their members andothers in the community. Doesn’t sound TOO unfamiliar to this Gunny’s old ears.Most Sack readers who are in ANY biker association or club here in the USA have heard campaigns before about urging our people to get their motorcycleENDORSEMENT! Just goes to show, no matter what country, continent or culture,bikers have similar issues, and we stick together to look after our own.
WASHINGTON STATE: A couple here were jailed for road rage recently, because theywere charged with running a biker off the road. The driver of the car wascharged with 1st degree assault for striking the bike with her car, causing himto leave the roadway and crash. Her husband was also charged, in his case with4th degree assault, because THIS FOOL jumped out of the car, and went andTACKLED THE BIKER after he crashed! The biker was still lying on the side of theroad, suffering from his injures.
THIS CASE needs to be monitored, to be surethese people get what’s coming to them. From the JUDICIAL SYSTEM, that is. As aside note, the organization that is tracking just such cases, and that does SOMUCH more in the way of INFORMATION FOR BIKERS, is the Sons of Liberty Riders.Let me give you just a little info about it, now that I have yer attention!
SONS OF LIBERTY RIDERS: These folks aren’t a club, and they’re not really anassociation, either. They’re a group of biker activists of all stripes and fromall over.

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL MOTORCYCLE RIGHTS ORGANIZATION–ABATE was originally started to fight unjust laws against those that ride motorcycles. There are many different situations and conditions in all of our lives that come into play when we decide to own and ride a motorcycle.
ABATE: LET THOSE WHO RIDE DECIDE slogan should still be honored and let each rider decide what is best for them. ABATES function is to work as a legislative organization and Not Run or Indorse Mandatory Motorcycle Rider Courses. At this time I do believe that ABATE of Florida is against making these courses mandatory and I do support that decision.
I am in favor of Motorcycle Safety Courses and became a certified instructor But I am still against making taking the course mandatory. Money for education is in each motorcycle operator’s license and registration fee and that money should be used by the State of Florida to Offer Free Rider Education.
The Motorcycle Safety Foundation or M$F as we know it works off grant money and the loan of motorcycles from the manufactures. They have grown very powerful and made a lot of money off promoting motorcycle safety and now Harley Davidson is getting on the money band wagon with their Riders Edge Course. If Harley is really interested in promoting motorcycle safety more than making money they should offer the course for Free to people who buy their product. I should note that years ago some responsible dealerships did offer free training to people who bought their motorcycles. If all the motorcycle manufactures would offer rider education when they sold a motorcycle that would free up money to increase the courses now available and lower the costs of attending one.
If you really want to do some thing to help promote motorcycle safety Insist on Operators of Other Type Vehicles Take Responsibility For The Actions and Bad Driving Habits.
The State of Florida needs Tougher Penalties for Traffic Offenses and that should be a top priority for ABATE and other MROs. It will not be popular with non-motorcyclist or the easiest thing to accomplish But It Must get

ARMY LIFE INSURANCE–Private Jones was assigned to the Army induction center, where he was to advise new recruits about their government benefits, especially their Serviceman’s Group Life Insurance (SGLI). It wasn’t long before the center’s Lieutenant noticed that Private Jones had almost a 100% record for insurance sales, which had never happened before. Rather than ask about this, the Lt. stood in the back of the room and listened to Jones’s sales pitch.
Jones explained the basics of the SGLI to the new recruits, and then said. “If you have SGLI and go into battle and are killed, the government has to pay $200,000 to your beneficiaries. If you don’t have SGLI, and you go into battle and get killed, the government has to pay only a maximum of $6000.”

BIKERNET READER PATCHED IN–A couple of weekends ago I took a trip outta town on some club business. Unknown to me there was surprise waiting for me there. I got patched out!I was handed my patch by our national president, which is a very big deal. I was truly honored that my chapter would work it out for me to go with them and after business was done have the big man handed me my colors.
As ya know I am pumped up to get my rags and fly them around town. Now the real work begins. No one is allowed to coast here in the club. Everyone does their share to make it better and keep it running smooth. I am proud to be a full patch member now.
In my chapter we aren’t allowed to carry roadnames when we are prospecting and probating until we earn it and are patched out. I earned mine from the first time I met my boss and his wife. He asked his wife what she thought of me, and she said something, to the effect of, “he’s a cornbread fed country boy.” Well it stuck.
When the big boss handed me my patch they told me my name is now “Cornbread”.

BIKERNET STEALTH BIKE WORKS NC REPORT–Here at STEALTH BIKE WORKS we continue to plan for next weekend poker run (OCT. 8TH) to benefit the Red Cross and their hurricane relief efforts. We are hoping for a great turn out for this great cause.
I have been noticing a lot of noise in the front end of my ’91 Springer, I could not find it no matter how hard I searched. I washed the bike and while washing the shock on the front-end, the bottom of the shock moved where it mounts. The bushing was completely gone and the top bushing was about to go. I called the dealer trying to buy the bushings and they told me I had to buy the whole shock! I could not believe, but evidently it is true. Two $5 bushings end up costing you $195! I was wondering if anyone else out there has run into this problem? There has to be a place out there, where you can buy these bushings. Oh well, I guess the factory has us by the balls again.
Lucky for me “THE MEANEST” has this gift certificate that has been lying around and with my saddest eyes and voice I persuaded her to use the gift certificate to help me out. She always comes through and I appreciate that very much.
Chopper John and I rode to a local bike night last night. It was good ride and we talked about shop projects or I should say shop dreams over dinner. We looked at the bikes in the parking lot and it seemed they pretty much looked alike. There were a couple that stood out which brings me to my next point. Over the next couple of weeks I’m going to spill the beans about our first Stealth Bike Project. Hell, make your bike stand out in a crowd, and I am not talking about throwing every piece of bling-bling on it you can find. Remember less is more! I just found out the Rick Raus, from V-Twin marketing, is back in the Hospital. He was scheduled to deliver a Hellbound bobber the Bikernet headquarters for a road test yesterday. He didn’t show. He recently had hip replacement surgery. He works with a bunch of companies in the industry–He’s a good guy.
Remember the Run For Breath Best of Show Trophy? It was so popular we’re building three of them with the master talents of James Murillo custom paint and Samson exhaust. He’s delivering three original British peanut tanks tomorrow. I need to fire up the welder. Oh, I’ve got a question for you tool wizards. See the press on the right. RUCKER PERFORMANCE BEGINS WORK ON A CLASSIC ’32 FORD HOT ROD–Fort Worth, Texas (September 26, 2005) – Ron Cogburn, President of Meridian Consulting Group, has contracted Bill Rucker, President of Rucker Performance, to build a new 1932 Ford Convertible to market his firm’s consulting practice.
“We are creating an online ‘American Hot Rod’ show where we document the build process,” said Ron Cogburn. “We will post each online show on our website. After Bill (Rucker) completes the build it will become part of an industry promotion where our clients and prospects have an opportunity to drive home the Meridian Hot Rod at the National Bond Claims Association golf tourney in Pebble Beach later this year.”
Cogburn’s Hot Rod rolls with the top of the line Stage III chassis and the premium all steel 1932 Dearborn Deuce ConvertibleTM body from Hot Rods and Horsepower and is designed with a fully disappearing top.

MYRTLE BEACH RALLY CONTROVERSY– When a panel got together to discuss the two motorcycle rallies held in Myrtle Beach each spring, the only thing folks seemed to agree on is the need to talk more about it.
About 100 people gathered Monday to hear a group of 20 business and government leaders discuss the rallies.One suggestion was to move the Carolina Harley-Davidson Dealers Association Myrtle Beach Rally to April, instead of holding it in May.
Theater owners and golf promoters complained the rallies hurt their profits and should be moved or done away with but others said the area should welcome the bikers.Owners of bars and beer distributors said they generate as much as a third of their income during the rallies.
It was the first time in years that various interests gathered to discuss the rallies and, to some, not much has changed.
“Deja vu,” Atlantic Beach Mayor Irene Armstrong said. “Nine years ago, I sat in such a setting, a round table where there was an ad hoc committee formed. Guess what? We were discussing the same things we are discussing today.”
About 500,000 bikers flock to the Grand Strand each May for the two rallies. The Harley-Davidson rally is held in mid-May while the Atlantic Beach Bikefest is held during Memorial Day weekend.
As both events have grown in recent years, so have community complaints. The chamber recently surveyed its 2,300 members and found that 70 percent who responded wanted the events changed.
“The problem is there has gotten to be so many bikers, it is overwhelming everything else,” said David Brittain, who runs the Caribbean Resort and Sea Captain’s House restaurant.
Horry County Council Chairwoman Liz Gilland suggested moving the Harley-Davidson rally to April. But the dealers association didn’t like the idea either.”We want to try to work with everybody in Myrtle Beach, but this is our 66th year. It would be awful hard for us to move it,” said Gene Lummus, the association’s president.Bikers will come when they want to, added Brenda Spadoni of Better Brands beer distributor.
“May is what it is. We are not going to stop it,” she said. “Why we are trying to do away with a certain group of tourists is beyond me.”

By a portable toilet?One rider was overtaking a truck with porta potty’s on board, a toilet fell off the truck, struck him, and knocked him over the centre line. He ran into another Harley guy coming the other way and they were both killed! Now if I told you to watch out for portable toilets when out riding you would have just laughed before huh?
I was chatting to my friends daughter last night on the computer, Caz is in the UK, she does the most fantastic illustrations, fantasy stuff, nudes, tattoo drawings. Like a lot of people she thinks she really has no worthwhile talent when in fact her stuff is on par with paid artists. You could do worse than let her send you some drawings, you won’t be disappointed.
It occurred to me when I was talking to Caz that perhaps another good thing on Bikernet could be a monthly drawing contest where reader’s send in their art work and you create a link where people can vote on the best one each month? Each winner gets a Bikernet gift. What do you think?

SINGLE HEADLIGHT MEANS MOTORCYCLIST– CHARLESTON, S.C., Sept. 19 /U.S. Newswire/ — ABATE of South Carolina is asking radio, television, and newspaper outlets in South Carolina to report on the spike in motorcycle sales in South Carolina as a result of rising gasoline prices. Nationwide, motorcycle dealerships are reporting sales increases of 25 to 60 percent over this quarter last year. When asked why they are interested in purchasing a motorcycle at this time, more and more customers are indicating that rising fuel costs has lead to their decision to purchase a motorcycle.
According to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, in 2002, South Carolina had 61,167 motorcycles registered in the state. In 2003, that number jumped to 68,539. Motorcycles have been steadily gaining popularity over the last 10 years, but with rising gasoline prices, motorists need to realize that even greater numbers of motorcycles will be sharing South Carolina roadways.Most motorcycle accidents that involve a collision occur when a car or truck pulls out in front of a motorcycle or fails to yield to a motorcycle. When interviewed by police officers at the scene of the crash, statistics show that most drivers claim that they did not see the motorcycle coming.
“When traveling on the public roadways in South Carolina, not seeing a motorcycle means that you are not looking for a motorcycle,” says Ed Haas, ABATE of South Carolina media coordinator. “What we are asking for today is that the media report on the fact that drivers should expect even more motorcycles on South Carolina roads and that they need to look around their blind spots before pulling out or changing lanes. If every driver would ask, ‘Where’s the motorcycle?’ before pulling out onto a road or changing lanes, lives will be saved.”
“ABATE of South Carolina is asking that people drive their vehicles with the constant thought that a motorcycle is nearby, whether the driver can see the motorcycle or not. We need drivers to remain vigilant because motorcycles are everywhere. We’re asking drivers to find the motorcycle, to see the motorcycle, and to save a life. But we cannot do this alone. THE BIKERNET VINTAGE CAR RACE EFFORT CONTINUES–’53 Lincoln Capri and Cosmopolitan.These great cars especially excelled in the Pan American Road races. A 4 speed “Hydramatic” transmission was made standard and it would not be until the 2000 Lincoln LS that a Lincoln would again be available with a manual transmission.
Two trim levels were available. The Cosmopolitan was now the less expensive and the Capri was the top of the line. Weight was about 4200 lbs and an average price was $3300.

COLDIRON RUNS ROADMAX BELT DRIVE AND LEFT SIDE DRIVE TRANNY–Hank Young taught himself how to weld at his father’s shop (while no one was looking) at the age of 8. By age 10, he had surpassed his dad’s torch-welding skills and was consumed with the workings of metal.
His artistry skill level clearly speaks for himself after seeing his latest creation, Coldiron, which was completed in August 2005. It is a one-off custom built motorcycle that harkens back to the style of early Harleys but is built with current technology and aerospace grade metallurgy.
The Coldiron drive train features, High-Tech 3, Roadmax’s first belt drive system off the assembly line.
“I like the High-Tech 3 system because the kit is so easy to install. The pulleys are assembled and pre-drilled for an easy bolt-on application of the covers which are provided. Other systems require drilling and tapping,” said Young. “In addition, the diagram clutch action operates smoothly and works well.”
Coldiron sports a left side drive six speed transmission. The shift action is rhythmic and allows the rider to easily shift through the gears.
HIGH SCHOOL REPORT CARD FROM PROFESSOR BAAS–Here is the 2006 Kennedy High school Chopper ClassUpdate. This year the Kennedy Chopper class is off to a greatstart with three builds going on in class already. Thefirst is a ’66 ironhead that one of my students broughtin. His dad built this bike almost 20 years ago androde the old rigid Ironhead to Sturgis and back. Hisdad gave him this to rebuild and when he’s done, hegets to keep it! Pretty cool for a high school kid’sbike!

BIKERS OPEN WALLETS FOR KIDS–KOTA, SD – A little metal and a lot of biker generosity goes a long way in helping children in need.This morning the Children’s Care Foundation got a check for $266,000, half of what was raised in the first Kids and Chrome event sponsored in part by Bikernet.com.
During the Sturgis Rally, the who’s who of the biker industry as well as thousands of rally goers donated the money.The Children’s Care Foundation cut goes toward the cost of building a rehabilitation and development center. “This has been fabulous the way the motorcycle industry has stepped up to help kids,” Brian Bonde of Children’s Care Foundation said. “We plan for it to be an annual event and we think over time, it will really help us build a building. There’s still a lot to pay for.”
The other $226,000 goes to the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum. Two members of the Bikernet staff were inducted into the Hall of Fame this year, Rogue and Ball. It was quite a year.

BILLY LANE BUILDS CUSTOM CHOPPER IN MEMORY OF FALLEN SOLDIER–Billy Lane and the Blood Sweat & Gears Crew Build a Bike LIVE, in Memory of Brandon Sapp.
DAYTONA, FL (October 20,21,22 2005) – Billy Lane, founder of Choppers Inc and Blood Sweat & Gears Tour, will build a bike LIVE in memory of fallen soldier- Brandon Sapp during “Biketoberfest,” Daytona Beach’s fall motorcycle rally.
The Blood Sweat & Gears Tour sponsored by Bikernet.com, is Billy’s way of giving back and thanking those protecting our freedom. At the first Tour stop and ever since Billy was joined by some well known bike builder friends, Kendall Johnson, Paul Cox, Aaron Greene and Mondo each participating in the live stage builds daily throughout the 6 total annual Blood Sweat & Gears Tour stops.
Additionally Billy has welcomed guest builders Arlen Ness, Cory Ness, Dave Perewitz, Jerry Covington and other industry legends on stage to assist in completing each events’ build. At the end of every Tour stop, Billy hands the bike over to a deserving service person. No smoke and mirrors, just passes the keys on and thanks each recipient for what he or she did during their service.
This BSG build will be even more special this time. The bike will be built in memory of a brave soldier. Brandon Sapp born 6-19-83 in Palm Beach, FL County, Brandon joined the Army in 2003. Based at Fort Hood, Texas Brandon served in the 2-7 Calvary. Serving as a gunner outside of Najaf, Iraq. While serving Brandon came upon an area that according to his Sergeant, Brandon said “just didn’t feel right”. Brandon stopped the Bradley and suggested a different route. After surveying the area with night vision equipment the Bradley moved forward cautiously. Brandon chose to immediately veer right just as a 500lb bomb exploded. Brandon was killed instantly but because of his “intuition” nine other soldiers’ lives were spared.
As a young man Brandon was always trying to get permission from his father John Sapp to ride his motorcycle. After his son joined the Army John felt Brandon was ready to also take his bike for a spin. Upon Brandon’s ride return he proudly told his dad “I am getting a bike and we are going to Daytona Bike Week.” Father and son decided to build a bike together for Brandon to ride. Soon after starting the bike project Brandon left for Iraq and never returned. The bike project still sits in John’s living room waiting to be finished. Graveside John promised Brandon that his bike would be finished someday. Someday just arrived.
Billy Lane was contacted by John and asked to provide some building advice. Lane took it one step further and offered to pick the bike up and complete it with his other builder friends during Biketoberfest to honor Brandon.
Join Billy and the Blood Sweat & Gears Tour crew Thursday, Friday and Saturday during Biketoberfest to watch Brandon’s memorial bike come to life. The bike will be completed Saturday and in typical Billy Lane style expect it to not only run, but for Lane to do one of his infamous burn out’s with it before he hands it over following completion, House of Kolor paint will be applied to the custom. BRITISH TELEVISION SHOW BASED IN THE UK AND CALIFORNIA–September 3rd sees the launch of a new reality television show that promises to do for motorcycles what Pimp My Ride did for cars..!
All The Gear, No Idea is a British-produced show that features 14 motorcyclists from the UK. Each episode, one of the riders is shipped out from England to Los Angeles with their motorcycle, where both they and their bikes undergo a total transformation.
While the rider is being made-over in the plastic-surgery capital of Beverly Hills and taken shopping for a whole new look on Rodeo Drive, their bike is shipped down to leading Los Angeles custom-bike builder LA County Choprods. There, master builder Gard Hollinger and the Choprods crew set about converting the bikes from well-used rusty nails into gleaming two-wheeled dreambikes. The make-over of the rider is impressive enough, but what the guys do with these old bikes is absolutely astounding.
After a week in Los Angeles, both the bike and rider are shipped back to the UK and revealed to their gob-smacked friends and families.
All The Gear, No Idea is spearheading a new generation of programming for the ITV4 Men & Motors channel, with sell-through into the primary English-speaking countries currently being negotiated. The show is produced by renegade television production company Hamma & Glamma, who specialize in fast-paced motorsports programs. All The Gear, No Idea is also the first reality show where both the participant and their machinery is completely changed during the show.

MILWAUKEE IRON STAFF MEMBER PASSES ON–It is with much sadness that on this day, Tuesday, September 27th 2005, at around 3:30 a.m. this morning, Milwaukee Iron lost one of their greatest, Gary Woodford. We lost our friend, co-worker & mentor in Gary. No words can express what we, his family and friends are feeling at this time.

KENTUCKY SUPER SHOW WRAP-UP–The Hot Bike Kentucky Super Show in Louisville presented by RC Components on September 10th and 11th turned out to be one Hot Bike Show.
The Buzz around the Kentucky International Convention Center was that the 75 plus show bikes were some of the most creative creations seen at any shows this year.
Bike builders and spectators split their time between admiring the show bikes in the RC lounge and shopping the aisles for a new custom bike from builders like PB Choppers(Iowa), Nothing But Customs(KY), Coast 2 Coast Choppers(FL) and Three Two Choppers out of Texas to name a few. If that wasn’t enough local dealership Rolling Thunder Cycles brought out dozens of Swift, APC and Ironhorse bikes for sale. Michelle Smith greeted bikers and shoppers in the Derby City Vengeance booth.
The RC lounge was rockin’ with live music, and surrounded with vendors like Dakota Digital, 3rd Day Bike Works and the latest creations of the talented artiest Latisha Wood. Baker Drivetrain one of the sponsors was on hand with their products on some trick display bikes. Porky’s Choppers was hard at work building a one off custom during the event with the help Baker components.
If all this wasn’t enough 4th street was blocked off for free front row bike parking and local Trials stud David Chaves used the downtown street to thrill the crowd as he performed some world class Trials stunts.
As the two day show came to a close and the custom billet awards from Dakota Digital, Baker, and Cycle Smith were handed out in 17 classes. It was plain to see that this annual show is here to stay.

GET OUT IF YOU WANT SHARIA LAW, AUSTRALIA TELLS MUSLIMS……… CANBERRA: Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks. A day after a group of mainstream Muslim leaders pledged loyalty to Australia at a special meeting with Prime Minister John Howard, he and his ministers made it clear that extremists would face a crackdown.
Treasurer Peter Costello, seen as heir apparent to Howard, hinted that some radical clerics could be asked to leave the country if they did not accept that Australia was a secular state and its laws were made by parliament. “If those are not your values, if you want a country which has Sharia law or a theocratic state, then Australia is not for you,” he said on national television. “I’d be saying to clerics who are teaching that there are two laws governing people in Australia, one the Australian law and another the Islamic law, that that is false.
If you can’t agree with parliamentary law, independent courts, democracy, and would prefer Sharia law and have the opportunity to go to another country which practices it, perhaps, then, that’s a better option,” Costello said. Asked whether he meant radical clerics would be forced to leave, he said those with dual citizenship could possibly be asked move to the other country.
Education Minister Brendan Nelson later told reporters that Muslims who did not want to accept local values should “clear off”. “Basically, people who don’t want to be Australians, and they don’t want to live by Australian values and understand them, well then they can basically clear off,” he said. Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spies monitoring the nation’s mosques.

STURGIS LEADERS DISCUSS RALLY STRATEGY– KELOLAND TV, SD – Town leaders in Sturgis are brainstorming ways to draw bikers back to downtown, the home of the annual motorcycle rally. Rally committee members met to discuss the drop in visitors to downtown.Mike Bachand says Custer and Hill City have almost become bigger destinations than Sturgis.
Businessman Bob Davis says the focus has been “How can we make money on the rally?” and it should be “How can we make it better?” He says higher lodging costs, parking problems and traffic congestion all turn people away.
