The Chris Tronolone Story
By Bandit |
The guy who makes our stickers, Chris Tronolone of ExpressiveDesigns, also makes the stickers for Jesse James’ shop West CoastChoppers and dozens of other semi-profitable companies.
He pulled up in front of the headquarters recently in a double stretched Hum vielimousine and stormed the doors of the Bikernet Headquarters. Eventhough his bodyguards were heavily armed, he was a sweating nervouswreck. I couldn’t figure it out and got sorta shaky myself as his menopened their coats to flash their stainless steel Browning autos.
“Chris, you don’t need to go there, man. Bandit generally pays hisbills. Hell, I’ll pay it again,” I said trying to figure out what thehell was on his mind. “How about we write a glowing article aboutyour company on Bikernet.” That seemed to make him smile some, but helooked around the headquarters as if it was a solitary confinementcell at the Los Angeles County Jail. The guy was as touchy as a shortfused firecracker. “Can I get you a girl, Chris?” I said it with puresincerity. Either we were in a lot of trouble or he was on drugs.
He shook his head and stood up abruptly. He held out hissweaty palm and I shook his hand in greeting, fearing that Bandit hadsomehow ripped him off and I was going to take the slug for anotherdeal gone south. He continually looked at his watch. He moved aboutthe headquarters like a kid who was forced to go to a museum ofancient kitchen appliances. He looked at the antique motorcycles, theDavid Mann paintings and old motorcycle photographs as if he couldcare less. With each abrupt irritable move he glanced at his watch. Abig Samoan looking body guard stepped up to him in the garage as helooked at the various stickers on Bandit’s rusting tool box, “It’stime to go to the airport, Boss.”
Suddenly he turned to face me, a slightly overweight man whowasn’t particularly tall, about 45, he held out his sweating palm onefinal time and I was sure I was going to give the ultimate gift toBikernet, my life. I shook his hand and for the first time he smiledin touchy fashion as if he was about to be involved in somethingreally bad. “I can’t stand the mainland. We’re headed back to theislands. Thanks for showing me around,” he muttered and headedbriskly for the door.
I stammered like a kid caught with his hand in the cookiejar, but I was glad to show him to the door and watched the twomuscled guardians depart.
Sure as shit, just after the long black vehicle pulled away,Bandit rolled up on a new V-Rod, then I got the story on Chris. Idiscovered that Chris had escaped the mainland right after graduatingfrom High School in 1977. He had been riding and surfing most of hislife and as the salt water fever grew inside of him he looked for theultimate spot on the earth to surf. A land with constant warm waterand rippling waves.
“He wanted to live in a different place withgreat weather and warm water year ’round,” Bandit confessed pushingthe V-Rod into the garage. “He started working at a silk-screen shopon the North-Shore of Oahu printing T-shirts in the evenings, so hecould surf all day. It was great back then, he made just enough moneyto get by, no responsibilities. His rent was only $100 a month, andhe rode around on a Yamaha 250 enduro. He later started working for afriend who had a sticker business, so he worked some days printingshirts and other days printing stickers. His buddy flew to Bali forthe summer’s to surf, so he took over the business, soon after hebecame a business partner,” Bandit said pulling a welding glassesover his head and firing up his old beat up torch.
Bandit fired that torch and send sparks spraying around thegarage as he told me that we got hooked up with Chris through hisbrother Bob Tronolone who had ridden with Bandit in the mid ’70s on thecoast. Just recently after a 25 year absence, Bob found Bandit on theInternet and they got to talking. Bandit needed stickers and washaving his usual bad luck with goofball companies that told him onething and did another. Bandit traded books and a dayroll for hisfirst batch of stickers. “They’ve produced some wacky stickers overthe years,” Bandit said while staring at a glowing belt buckleproject. He hadn’t hand fabbed a buckle in a couple of years andafter slamming into that deer his eyesight was mostly toast. He wasburning everything on the bench. “Most of the stuff they printed forcompanies was tame, like stickers for Walt Disney’s new movie, Lilo &Stitch. On the other hand they just did some for a Mud Bog race wherewomen were competing and wanted ‘Powered by Pussy’ and another onethat said ‘Pussy Power’. They also produced some for a diving teamthat said ‘Muff Divers Go Deep’.”
According to the welding Bandit, filling the garage with smoke,Expressive Designs has been in business since 1979 in Hawaii, butthey also opened a location in Torrance, California in ’87 which hispartner runs. They manufacture Mylar window stickers, Vinyl bumperstickers, and they also print on a material called rice paper whichgoes under the glass and resin on surfboards and disappears exceptfor what they print. All major Surfboard companies have their logoson all boards made. All pro surfers have all of their sponsors ontheir boards which is printed on rice paper. That paper is so rare,Chris imports it from Japan and export it to the states.”
As Bandit continued to mumble and catch his bench on fire, Idove for the rusting fire extinguisher in the corner. Bandit leanedback on the bar stool at the bench and blew a hole in the drywallbehind the bench as I sprayed the flames with near empty fireextinguisher. “Pay attention, Snake!” Bandit mutter trying to find mein the dark garage wearing number 10 welding lenses. “Chris also hasanother business he started as a joke when the GOT MILK commercialscame out. He started doing sticker’s like GOT SURF? GOT PAM? and GOTGOLF? etc. He started getting a lot of calls from other companiesthat wanted there own ‘Got’ stuff. He fabricated Got Miller Litestickers for the Pro Bowl, Got Blood for the blood bank, Got Choppersfor Jesse James, Got Duracell, Got Crabs for a fish market on Maui, and several others. They still get orders for the ‘Got’ thingsat http://www.gotstickershawaii.com
“Goddamnit Snake, didn’t you know that sticker’s are thecheapest form of advertisement there is?” Bandit said showering me inmelting brass. I decided that this conversation was futile anddangerous as I splashed a bucked of corrosive water next to thegrinding wheel on my Levis to put out the fire. As he continued tomumble, I stumbled back into the headquarters and grabbed Chris’s cardwhich fortunately contained his cell number. I dialed quickly, tryingto wrap up this mess and get to the bar before Bandit discovered Ileft him alone in the garage.
“Mr. T, it’s Snake from Bikernet, how the hell does a guyorder stickers?” I said my Levis still smoking as I glanced out atthe smoldering garage. I could still see sparks flying out of thegarage door.
“Best way to get a hold of us is to either call 808-638-9090 or wehave two Fax lines 808-638-9090 or 808-638-0171 or e-mail us @expd@hawaii.rr.com or expdart@hawaii.rr.com, Chris said running tohis plane. “Anybody can fax or e-mail art toget price quote. Tell us how many colors and what size and a roughquantity they are looking at. That way we can tell them best way toset it up. I hate the fuckin’ mainland. Sorry, but I’ve got to getback to the islands. Oh, also, if they want it die cut or straightcut we can also tell them how to send art over e-mail or mail it ondisk. We get art from all over the world and we can deal with any ofit as long as we can talk to or e-mail the customer. See ya.”
He shut off his cell phone as he reached the terminal, buthis card listed their address:
Expressive Designs 59-740 Amaumau Pl. Haleiwa, Hawaii 96712.
Suddenly the Bikernet cell rang as I was about to set itdown, and grab another fire extinguisher and head back to the glowinggarage. “I have a sense of humor,” Chris said in his scary straighttone, “just don’t make me sound like a corn ball.”
The phone went dead, as dead as I thought I was going to bewhen I first met the man. Now each time I look at our stickers orJesse James, I have new respect. I gotta get a drink.

It’s just not fair.–Bandit BIKERNET MEDICAL LIBRARY– Two medical students were walking along the street when they saw an old man walking with his legs spread apart. One of the students said to his friend: “I’m sure he has Petry Syndrome. Those people walk just like that.” The other student says: “No, I don’t think so. The old man surely has Zovitzki Syndrome. He walks just as we learned in class.” Since they couldn’t agree they decided to ask the old man. They approached him and one of the students said to him: “We’re medical students and couldn’t help but notice the way you walk, but we couldn’t agree on the syndrome you might have. Could you tell us what it is?” The old man said: “I’ll tell you, but first you’ll tell me what you think.” One of the students said: “I think it’s Petry Syndrome.” The! old man said: “You thought………. but you are wrong.” Then the other student said: “I think you have Zovitzki Syndrome.” The old man said: “You thought………. but you are wrong. So they asked him: “Well, what do you have?” The old man said: “I thought it was GAS……….. but I was wrong.” –Rik S. STAMPEDE PREPARES FOR BLACKOUT– When the lights go out, demons come out to play! MC Advantages DAYTONA HARLEY AND EPA EMMISSIONS–There’s a catalog-quality photograph of a motorcycle hanging on a wall in Ed Mook’s office at Daytona Harley-Davidson. The long, straight tailpipes are tied into a giant knot. Call it the satirical model for the dealership’s customer-relations honcho.”Basically, that’s what it’s coming to,” Mook said. Tighter Clean Air Act emission standards, based on California’s law, went into effect on Jan. 1 for motorcycles manufactured in 2006 and beyond. Modifying exhaust systems on those bikes also became tougher, limiting owners to one customized road machine in a lifetime that doesn’t meet air quality standards. That bike cannot be sold for five years.Motorcyclists are as hot as their tail pipes about the law, especially in a Bike Mecca like Daytona Beach. “When you buy a cycle, the first thing you want to do is change the pipes. Otherwise, no one hears or sees you. It’s the greatest sound in the world,” said Mook, 57. “This law eventually is going to take away the look of Bike Week. It will destroy what Daytona is about.” The Environmental Protection Agency said motorcycle-emissions standards hadn’t changed since the late 1970s, and today’s technology can improve air quality without harming a bike’s performance.Opponents say enforcement of the law might prove difficult, since Florida no longer requires annual emissions tests for cars or motorcycles like some states. The state’s Department of Environmental Protection said any suspected violators would be investigated, and if tampering was found, “options for prosecution would be explored.”Fines of up to $10,000 can be handed out for each violation. Under the new law, a manufacturer may sell or lease 24 custom motorcycles a year, but only for display, not everyday riding.Brigit Duncan, owner of Custom Works in Daytona Beach, said her shop counts on the business of Harley-Davidson owners. Among Harley owners, “98 out of 100” modify factory-installed exhaust pipes, Duncan said. “If the law’s enforced as it’s written, we will be devastated. We do a lot of kit bikes,” she said. “We’ve lost about 80 percent of those sales since we started letting people know about the law three months ago. But it was the right thing for us to do.” Looking ahead a decade or two, she envisions blander Bike Weeks. “It will be very quiet and very ugly, approved by the EPA,” Duncan said. Another motorcycle repair shop owner, 65-year-old “Snake Shoe” Pete Consiglio, predicted demand will increase forHarley-Davidsons that were built before 2006.”People will look for older bikes to get around the law. It’s going to create a market for used Harley-Davidsons,” said Consiglio, who owns BAS2, a shop in South Daytona. “People are going to find an older bike and then modify it. They’ll get around the law.” Mike Hubbard, a 50-year-old Daytona Beach biker, said he has owned five motorcycles in the last five years and customized four of them.He learned of the new law just this week, and was incredulous about the one-time, lifetime limit on customizing the exhaust systems of new bikes. “I thought we were in America,” Hubbard said. “There’s no way it’s going to be enforced. No one’s going to pay attention to it.” –Rogue BONNEVILLE TEAM CODE–Chop N Grind Motto:”We would rather lose going fast enough to win than win going slow enough to lose.” –BOB T. Before living the lifestyle, Cochran was a professional jeweler and jewelrydesigner. Some four years ago his personal ride landed on the pages of TheHorse magazine. The phone started ringing and a short time later he hung up hismonocle and began building and selling bobbers. Since his debut in The Horse he has built over 200 bobbers. The SPS crew is Jeffhis partner Donny Loos and 4 builder assemblers. The process is for Cochran todesign the bike and then mock up the components. It is then broken down andsent to paint and powder coating. The assembly is then finished by Jeff and hiscrew. Each bike is ridden 30 to 50 miles before it leaves the factory. Each bobber features an R-Max tranny and 95% of the bikes come with an R-MaxTech-3 open primary. “The transmissions shift smooth and have a nice fit andfinish,” stated Cochran. “In addition, the open primary looks good and theinstructions are top notch. The instructions are so good that I sell them tocustomers for self installation.” The old school design is currently cutting edge for 2006. Cochran has always hada kickstart Shovelhead and has been riding Bobbers for over 20 years. Becauseof his background he knows how to make them handle and perform. Their rigidframes have been thoroughly tested with the geometry designed for greathandling. All the bikes run left side drives and can run 200 tires with a chainand up to 180 with a belt. Stronger than steel and lighter than plastic, our trend-setting design will carry you through life in comfort and style. It’s eye-wear with an attitude. and a perfect fit foryour lifestyle.
Ok, ok, enough of the salesman bullshit. We saw the Gatorz booth at the Long Beach Bike Show and passed them up. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that they didn’t catch my eye. I thought they were sick. It’s probably because I’m a cheap-ass. Or maybeit’s because I’ve broke so many sets of shades in the past that I buy my shit at the drug store anymore.
So when Tom, contacted use about possibly selling Gatorz on the site, My only thought was cool, free samples. I didn’t think that under my care they wouldn’t last more than a week. But, I was wrong these things truly are Bad-Ass they’re made to order out of T- 7075 aircraft aluminum, in as many colors as you can imagine. You can pick from a wide array of colored 100% UV protected lens. Plus they carry a Life Time Rebuild Agreement.
I know, what your thinking. What about when you?re on the road? Shit.. you can bend them to fit your face perfectly. Besides we had them tested and no wind slips underneath or through the sides. They don’t fly off when you look over you shoulder. So as soon as we finalize the deal with Tom and Gatorz they’ll be available to you in the Bikernet Black Market.

IT’S A WRAP–Break out the iron, the whiskey and the women. This news about kicked by ass. I was going to lay out the rest of the year, but screw it. I’ll cover that later as all the small shit comes together in a flurry of heated negotiations.
I’m going to write a column for HORSE mag once more. It’ll give me the ass-kicking impetus to work on Badlands for the Cantina. Each story will be a blistering historic rampage about the outlaw biker past. They’ll sometimes keep you on the edge of your seat, teach you the warriors code or give you some insight into one man’s two wheeled history. The first one will cover an 82-year-old member of the World Wide Motorcycle Club in Hawaii. This guy is still a wild man. No one will publish these stories except the HORSE and Bikernet. Watch for them.
Let’s wrap it up and take a break. Goddamnit it’s supposed to be happy hour somewhere.

BABE SINGER LOOKING FOR GIGS–I have a friend who’s a biker, a babe and, most importantly, a singer. She is putting together a tour for later this year and is looking for gigs out west, CA, AZ, NV, etc. I was wondering if I could write something up about her and her tour to post in the News or Sunday Post to get her some exposure out west.
I’ve attached a few pictures of her on a ride she did from Texas to Canada and some of her singing. SOMETHING FOR THE WINTER RIDE– Larry Valle TOP SPOT AT NHTSA FILLED–The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) announces President Bush has sent the nomination of Nicole R. Nason from Virginia to the U.S. Senate to assume the position of Administrator at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). “Let’s hope Ms. Nason has a better approach to motorcycle safety than her predecessor.” said Jeff Hennie, Vice President of Government Relations for the Motorcycle Riders Foundation. “In all seriousness, the MRF does look forward to continuing to work with NHTSA when comes to focusing on motorcycle safety.”, he continued. “The recent formation of the NHTSA motorcycle safety network’s quarterly meetings which include the involvement of the MRF, AMA, NHTSA, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Kawasaki, SMSA, MSF and law enforcement is a positive sign NHTSA does want input from the riding community.”, Hennie added. NHTSA will be the lead agency in administration of the $25 million motorcycle safety grant program contained in SAFETEA-LU (PL 109-59). Inclusion of the grant program in the bill was due singularly to the efforts of the Motorcycle Riders Foundation and its members. Currently Ms. Nason serves as Assistant Secretary of Transportation for Governmental Affairs. Previously, she served as Assistant Commissioner for the Office of Congressional Affairs for the United States Customs Service. Ms. Nason also served as Communications Director and Counsel to Representative Porter J. Goss. Earlier in her career, she served as Governmental Affairs Counsel at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. Ms. Nason received her bachelor’s degree from the American University and her Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve. HARDBIKES INSTALLS FIRST FOUR CUSTOM MOTORCYCLE DESIGN CENTERS– The Design Center is Rolled Out in PA, NJ, CT and MA.Hermitage, Pennsylvania, January 19, 2006 — Hardbikes is pleased toannounce their first four installations of the Hardbikes Design Center duringthe first week in January 2006 at Bucks County Custom Cycles in Pipersville,PA, Chrome and Custom in Fairfield, NJ, Suzuki of Swansea in Swansea, MA andStreet Stuff in Norwich, CT. Each dealer received a Hardbikes Design Center in their showroom where customerswork with a certified designer to get fitted for their custom bike on one of thetwo Hardbikes Hardrider systems. One Hardrider provides fitment for the Bobberand Prostreet bike while the other is designed for the Chopper and the HighRoller. The way the process works is a buyer can either come into the dealership or logon to the Hardbikes website and design their custom motorcycle through asoftware application called the Design Wizard. After that is completed they sitdown with their local dealer designer to get fitted for the bike to theirphysical dimensions and riding style. The dealer pulls three measurements that include seat position, forward controlssetting and handle bar position. This allows the designer to make sure therelationship of the leg extension, arm reach and posterior position fall withina comfortable riding position in the comfort triangle. Enthusiasts get aperfectly fitted bike that avoids back strain and increases safety andperformance. “During our installation at Chrome and Custom in New Jersey, we custom fit a5’4″ woman on our entry-level old-school styled 200 Bobber,” said BobKay, VP Sales and Marketing. “She was able to sit flat footed and told usthat this was the first bike she felt comfortable on after a full day ofshopping for a bike.””All the dealers were very positive and found that the concept of theHardbikes Design Center was the best they had seen,” explained Tim Saulsbery,Hardrider Systems Coordinator. “They all had a very positive response to oursystem of building a bike to fit the person.” Hardbikes is committed to building a manufacturing process and selling systemthat supports the unique culture of the American V-Twin rider. There are bikes out on the road everyday! The buzz around here or I should say “Roar” is about our Panthers being in NFC Championship game this Sunday. Go Panthers! Back to bikes, here at STEALTH BIKE WORKS we remain steady. We could always use more work, but so far through out the winter it has been encouraging. One thing about running a bike shop is you learn how to make things work when others say they won’t work. I hate to hear someone say “It won’t work.” That is why what we do is called “custom”. We make it work. Sometimes you just have to stop and take a different approach. Just because a book or someone tells you it won’t work doesn’t mean it can’t be done. One thing we like to see at SBW is repeat customers. It tells us we are doing something right. It makes my day when I see a customer return. Last week I sold a set of tires to a guy. I asked him how he heard about us and he told me that a customer of ours told him about us. That is the best kind of advertisement. Someone who has spent money with us tells their friends about us. It is good to know our name is getting out there. When we have people come in and ask us about building bikes we try to explain the process and put them at ease. Some really have not thought about what building a bike involves. They have seen it done on T.V. and boy does it look easy. The reality of building a bike is far more involved and for some over their heads. It takes some money to build a bike. Some are way off on this part of the build. You don’t have to be rich but you have to be real. I had a guy tell me was going to build a bike for 5 grand. I told him “Good Luck!” Some get into building a bike and then the cost factor hits them. You can’t build a bike and worry about every dime that it takes to finish it. You can be efficient building a bike but there are not many corners to cut. There are certain things that you have to do, no short cuts, no inferior products. Your ass is on the line and our name is on the line. That’s why if you do not want to do it the right way, you are better off finding something else to spend your money on. Here at SBW we don’t cut corners on anything our name is going on. We will not cut corners on safety issues such as brakes, tires etc. A friend of mine told me that this is an “expensive game” and it is in some ways but if you want to play you have got to pay! Things like tires and brakes are not expensive when you understand that your life depends on them. Think about it! The Easyrider show is just around the corner and everyone is busy getting their bike ready. The show is a two day show here in Charlotte, Feb. 11th + 12th. This show always proves to be a good one. Hey it is 65 degrees here and it supposed to be around 70 degrees tomorrow, time to go for a ride! Until next week, RIDE! DAYTONA BIKE WEEK 2006– Before you know it Daytona Beach Bike Week will be here. With the event growing and expanding through out the state of Florida it is not too early to start making plans and reservations. For many years and a lot of reasons the event has spread out across the state with activities as far south as Miami and Key West. Orland has very large crowds with a lot of activities many especially for the visiting bikers. I have recently been informed that the Cocco Beach area is gearing up and expecting more motorcyclists this year. That is not surprising as the area is Very Biker Friendly. It also has daily ship gambling cruises, is close to the Space Center, Air Boat Rides, Fine restaurants and other entertainment. Cocco Beach is close enough to Daytona Beach that it is an enjoyable ride there for the special things you want to see and attend. The Hotels and Motels are plentiful and offer very reasonable rates. The money you save could be used for other entertainment. Further down I-95 in Palm Bay the new Space Coast Harley Davidson dealer ship is also planning some events for the traveling bikes. Bikernet will be bringing you our reports and what’s happening as we have in the past in hope that you will have an enjoyable stay while in Florida. OH ROGUE says: If you see him ask him to take your picture. He will be all over doing his thing. Having Fun OH YEA! — Rogue SOUTH DAKOTA ABATE LEGISLATIVE DAY–South Dakota ABATE will be hosting their annual Legislative Day this Thursday thru Saturday. Plan to wear your leather and have a blast interacting with our legislators (Many of them wear their leathers that day too!). At time it looks like a relatively quiet session for us. We are watching the proposed change to a mandatory blood test if stopped for DUI. SD plans to crack down on riders of ATV’s and scooters, we are in close contact with our legislators on that issue. Some are complaining about decorative lighting, we don’t know enough about that yet to update you. Teenagers may lose their cell phones while driving. Vendors from the Sturgis Rally are asking the state to change its gaming laws to allow more expensive bikes to be given away, but that looks like it needs more work before passage. Issues that are on our list but maybe not this year include the handlebar height law and modifying the license plate laws. We do not yet have enough evidence of “need” for change to get the handlebar law fixed. We need your help, let us know when you get stopped while here so we can prove to the legislators a problem does exist. ABATE of SD has begun working closely with our Dept of Safety to find ways to reduce motorcycle accidents and fatalities by education and roadway improvements. Our goal is to prove that smart, trained riders can take care of themselves without need for mandated safety equipment. –Larry Nielson HANDLEBAR SYNDROME–Know anyone who suffers from Handlebar Syndrome? HS is simply the inability to look at either a picture of, or an actual custom motorcycle that general consensus holds to be worthy of praise, without using the phrase “Well, if it was mine, I’d change the handlebars…” or a variant thereof. HS can reach chronic proportions in certain individuals. There are recorded cases of persons in Wallmart being asked if the trolley was OK and replying “Well, if it was mine, I’d change the handlebars…”. In extreme cases, sufferers when asked “What do ya think of the tits on that?” will reply “Well, if it was mine, I’d change the handlebars…”. HS came to the attention of Doctor Ivor Suzuki in 2003 when he was called upon to pronounce a Mr. Dick Head deceased as a result of being battered over the head by his wife, Gives. Mrs. Head apparently became incensed when Mr. Head was asked for an opinion on whether his wife’s new dress “made her ass look fat” and replied “Well, if it was mine, I’d change the handlebars…”. Dr. Suzuki has been working ever since to discover a treatment for HS. His research into aversion therapy, inspired by an event observed during some field research in which a member of a motorcycle club asked a bystander what they thought of a newly constructed motorcycle and the bystander replied “Well, if it was mine, I’d change the handlebars…”, has suggested that anally inserted handlebars may cure, or at least alleviate the compulsion. If you can donate $2.50 a month to help with Dr. Suzukis research, then just send me the money, and I’ll pass it on. In the meantime Dr. Suzuki suggests that next time your showing off a newly built motorcycle you take along a couple of pairs of handlebars and some Vaseline.” –from Black Jack Continued On Page 5

BONNEVILLE BIKERNET BIKE NAMES–We’ve got Salt Shaker, but we need one more with the Salt theme. How about Salty Dog?
“If you’re going to name one of the Morton Mile bikes Salt Shaker(brilliant name by the way), then the second bike should be calledPepper Grinder.
Pepper meaning fast (e.g. telling a baseball pitcher to ‘put somepepper on it’) and Grinder is apparently biker slang for riding hard(although I’ve never heard anyone use the term myself). Salt Shakerand Pepper Grinder…
Second suggestion, for a team logo have Mr Towle work his magic on theMorton Salt girl. You know, the chick holding the umbrella and dumpingsalt. I’m sure he could morph her into a sexy evil bitch. Oh Yeah, wegotta have her look a little evil to scare the other race teams.”

BIKERNET BAD NOTION OF THE WEEK–The Hologram post was a copy of an email from a DOT worker that wantedfeedback from law enforcement on identifying DOT approved helmets.Including changing from DOT stickers to holographic emblems that aregel coated into the back of a helmet. Fuckin’ jackasses.
I’ve beenfighting this helmet thing for 3 decades now. I think the only way endit is have NHSTA’s funding cut. I read a while back that the NRA(National Rifle Association) had successfully lobbied and cut the AFT’sfunding. Why couldn’t we do that with NHSTA? I say we can, andshould. Maybe that will get those Assholes attention?
What’s NHSTA dofor us anyway? Not much that I can identify. Airbags? What a joke. They’ve killed babies, blinded, caused brain injuries, and crippledpeople that would otherwise have been unharmed. NHSTA needs to go!
Ifall the MRO’s would focus on getting rid of them, most of your problemswould be over.

What if abunch of Nazi bastards get themselves elected and use all these littlelaws collectively allowing them to legally take over the government?

Samantha Nelson, Medill News Service Fri Jan 13, 1:00 PM ET.–Writing annoying, anonymous online posts or e-mails could land you injail for as long as two years. That’s according to the Violence AgainstWomen andDepartment of Justice Reauthorization Act of 2005, which was signedinto law last week.
According to a section of the act, anyone who uses the Internetanonymously “with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass anotherperson” can be tried for violating federal telecommunications law andface fines or jail.
The broad language of the law has some online advocates concerned thatit could be used to censure the expression of objectionable opinionsimply because those opinions annoy someone, but its backers say thatis not the case.
“This is about cyberstalking, not free speech,” says Mike DeCesare, communications director for the act’s author, Representative JimMcDermott (news, bio, voting record) (D-Washington). “You may writesomething and post it online and I may find it annoying, but so what? This isn’t what this is about. This is about keeping people, especiallywomen, safe.”
McDermott’s anticyberstalking legislation came about after thecongressman learned about Seattle resident Joelle Ligon. Years aftergetting married, Ligon began getting anonymous and hard-to-track e-mailmessages from someone she believed to be her ex-boyfriend, James RobertMurphy. The messages became increasingly disturbing and threatening.Eventually he sent e-mail to Ligon’s coworkers accusing her ofmisrepresenting her résumé and making it appear she wassending them pornography.Murphy was sending his e-mail from South Carolina, where it wasdifficult for Seattle police to pursue him.
After FBI agents found copies of the e-mail messages on his computer,Murphy pleaded guilty to two counts of harassment and was sentenced to500 hours of community service and five years probation.
Ligon says that the difficulty of prosecuting cyberstalkers makes itunlikely that officials will use the new law frivolously.

AUSTRALIAN LANE FAVORABLE LANE SPLITTING LETTER–This is a copy of the letter I just sent to the government body who wants to ban lane filtering by riders Australia wide.
— Jaq.
To: Greg Deimos,
Project Manager,
National Transport Commission
Dear Greg
As a Professional Motorcycle Rider I call into question your judgement pertaining to the making illegal that aspect of motorcycling know as “lane-splitting/ filtering.
As an ex Security Services motorcyclist I lane split quite frequently myself. Both as an on duty officer and as an off duty civilian on my own bike(s).Studies in the UK, and other highly congested European cities have concluded that there is little harm, and even benefits, from allowing motorcyclists to use this technique.
Police Officers ALREADY have the discretion to stop and book motorcyclists who lane split irresponsibly under the title of Negligent Driving Practice. Were you unaware of this?
I have already thought far in advance of many others as to the results of this ill thought out regulation should it come to pass. You will, in reality be forcing motorcyclists to conduct themselves in a manner far more likely to promote injury and even death.Assuming for a moment that the majority of riders do not simply just ignore the new regulation. And many will. This is what I forsee happening.
In order to commute to work within the period of time the rider normally allots himself by using lane filtering techniques, said rider is likely to A: Increase his speed of travel, quite likely breaking the marked speed limit.
And of a more serious note, B: he/she will swap and change lanes much more often than previously. I can see riders chopping in and out of fast moving traffic, from lane to lane, to gain the time they have lost due to the new regualtion. Changing lanes is NOT illegal, no matter if the rider does so every few seconds. This will cause great concern amongst other road users; motorcyclists will be cutting a swathe across all traffic lanes to gain an advantage they had previously enjoyed at little risk to themselves or other drivers.
I am reminded of the old adage “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it!”
I could point out to you also that 90% of fatalities in car and truck accidents are due to head injuries. Regardless of whether the vehicle user was wearing a seat belt or not.
If you were TRULY concerned about saving the lives of motor transport users you would obviously INSIST that a regulation is passed requiring everyone (including passenegers) to wear an approved motor vehicle operators safety helmet. The majority would be against it you say? Yes, I agree, it is much harder to regualte against the wishes of the majority of road users as opposed to the minority of road users is it not?Below is a commisoned report for the British Police Service. I think you will have NO data that will stand up against the obvious, common sense guidelines laid down by the UK Police.
British Guidelines
The British publication Motorcycle Roadcraft ( The Police Riders Handbook to Better Motorcycling), notes the following under the topic of overtaking. When traffic is stationary or moving slowly in queues, motorcyclists can use their maneuverability and limited space requirements to make progress. The advantages of filtering along or between stopped or slow moving traffic have to be weighed against the increased vulnerability while filtering.
If you decide to filter:Take extreme careKeep your speed low- you need to be able to stop suddenly if circumstances change
Always identify a place where you can rejoin the traffic flow before you move out
Make yourself visible ? consider using dipped headlight
Be ready to brake and/or use the hornUse the opportunity to make progress but be courteous and avoid conflict with other road users
Watch out for and anticipate:
Pedestrians crossing between vehicles
Vehicles emerging from junctions
Vehicles changing lanes or U-turning without warning
Doors opening
Reflective paint and studs which could throw the bike off line
Traffic islands
Other bikes also filtering
If you can provide me with a commisoned report (that can be verified by agencies other than the National Transport Commission) that shows any statistics whatsoever to PROVE that lane-splitting/filtering is dangerous to both the rider and other road users I would ask that you forward it to me via email ASAP; so that I may review it myself.
I thank you for taking the time to read this letter.
Regards: Kevin “Jaqhama ” Lumley.

GEARING INFO– with a 24-tooth motor sprocket and 37 clutch sprocket that will give you a primary ration of 1.54. With 23-tooth tranny and 51 rear wheel, this will give you a final ratio of 3.42. At 60 mph rpms, will be about 2900, 70 will be about 3400 rpms.
If you go with a 25 tranny and a 46 rear wheel, final ratio will be 2.84. At 60 rpms will be 2400 and 70 will see 2800 rpms. Will be doggier out of the hole, but man you can go forever between gears. I ran that ratio with a 89-inch stroker with a 4-speed tranny, for years, and it was sweet. Seemed like less vibration from the motor! What a difference 500 rpms will give you. Never lookin’ for 5th either. Gas mileage is a plus too!

BIG TWIN CUSTOMS INVITATIONAL TO BE HELD AT BIG TWIN WEST– Awards Banquet Will Recognize the Leaders of Custom Bike Building.
New York, New York – January 20, 2006? Advanstar Communications, Inc ? a leading provider of print, event and online media for the powersports, off-road and automotive aftermarkets – today announced the addition of the ?Big Twin Customs Invitational ? a Celebration of Design Excellence? to the roster of Big Twin West, a leading motorcycle industry trade show, to be held in Las Vegas on December 1?3, 2006 at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Convention Center. The Big Twin Customs Invitational will run concurrent with the show, in which 100 of the most creative custom motorcycle designs from throughout the year and from around the world will be on display.
?The custom motorcycle business is now so big and there are so many gifted designers active in the marketplace that to pick one as the best is nigh on impossible,? said Big Twin West Show Director, Mo Murray. ?This event will celebrate all of those designers who are lucky enough to get invited and be truly a celebration of the incredibly high overall standard among designers,? he continued.
The event and the invitation process will be conducted under the guidance of an advisory board made up of several of the industry?s design leaders. The board is comprised of Bill Rucker, Dave Perewitz, Roger Bourget, Michael Prugh and Denny Berg. With this group, Advanstar can tap into not only the historical perspective of where motorcycle design has come from but also where it is going in the future.
?It is important that we celebrate the design leaders who are driving our industry and, with their creativity, attracting more and more consumer interest,? said Bill Rucker. ?However, it is equally important to do so in a way that is insulated from commercial influence and is managed with integrity and Advanstar is doing just that with the appointment of this over- sight board,? Rucker continued.
The event will include a celebrity/master builder build off, a live auction and an awards gala in which the exceptional among the invitees will be recognized. The awards gala will be held on the evening of Saturday, December 2, 2006. Entry to the event is by ticket only, and offers companies and various other industry constituents the opportunity to buy tables and invite their own special guests. The event is being promoted as ?Biker Formal? and will include a sit-down meal and entertainment. Custom bikes entered into the Big Twin Customs feature at the Cycle WorldInternational Motorcycle Shows presented by Toyota Trucks will be invited to submit their bikes for inclusion in the Big Twin Customs Invitational. The Advisory Board will have final authority over the 100 invitations and will accept nominations from a variety of other sources throughout the year.

DORK OF THE WEEK with no name…..YET– DENVER – An accident involving four motorcycles and a black Lexus caused major jams on Speer Boulevard during the afternoon rush hour. The accident happened just before 3 p.m. Police spokesman Sonny Jackson said four motorcycles were headed south on Speer Boulevard when a black Lexus drove through a red light and crashed into them.Subsequent reports from the scene say it’s not clear yet whether or not the driver ran a light.
Three people were taken to the hospital in critical condition. The status of a fourth person is unknown.Motorcyclist Jeff Thomas, who was riding with the group, got stopped at the light and witnessed the accident.
“It scared the hell out of me,” said Thomas. He said he’s been riding with the group for years. Thomas identified the riders who were hit as Mike McGinley, Mike McGinley Jr., Johnnie Baker and Byron Waggner. The accident happened just across the street from Denver Health Medical Center.
Witnesses said staff poured out of the hospital immediately following the accident and were able to quickly stabilize the victims and get them into surgery.
ATTENTION BIKERNET STAFF AND READERS– Australian National Transport Commission wants to stop motorcycles and scooters riding down between the traffic lights when traffic is stationary.
Police want to be able to enforce the regulation as a specific ” crime”
You will have to pay a monetary fine and also lose points on your riders/drivers license. For commuters and motorcycle couriers it’s going to be a pain in the ass!
Help stop this stupid regulation before it becomes law. Add your name to the petition below.
Thanks (on behalf of all Aussie riders)

Here is the link for the THE GENIE AND THREE WISHES–Three guys — a Canadian farmer, Osama bin Laden, and an American engineer — are walking together one day. They come across a lantern and a Genie pops out of it. “I will give each of you one wish, which is three wishes total”,says the Genie. The Canadian says, “I am a farmer, my dad was a farmer, and my son will also farm. I want the land to be forever fertile in Canada.” Pooooof! With a blink of the Genie’s eye, the land in Canada was forever made fertile for farming. Osama bin Laden was amazed, so he said, “I want a wall around Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran so that no infidels, Jews or Americans can EVER come into our precious states.” Pooooof! Again, with the blink of the Genie’s eye, there was a huge wall around those countries.. The American engineer asks, “I am very curious. Please tell me more about this wall”. The Genie explains, “Well, it’s 5000 feet high, 500 feet thick and completely surrounds these countries…….. it’s virtually impenetrable. Now what is your wish?” The American engineer smiles and says, “Fill it with water.” Pooooof! –Chris T. BIKERNET QUOTE OF THE WEEK–Excess on occasion is exhilarating. That is really the best for a Hong Kong rider.”For years, iconic motorcycle maker Harley-Davidson Inc. has pushed hard to find ways to sell its motorcycles in China. Now, the Milwaukee-based company says it plans to announce before summer that it will open its first retail outlet in the country since at least World War II. “Mao said that a thousand-mile journey begins with the first step,” said Timothy Hoelter, Harley-Davidson’s vice president of government affairs. “I guess we’re taking some baby steps already.” The company says there are still major hurdles – some 170 Chinese cities limit or ban motorcycle use or ownership, largely because they are viewed as underpowered, cheap, polluting machines that clog traffic and endanger others. “We are not encouraging motorcycle use,” said Miss Huang, who only gave her surname, a spokeswoman for the police force’s Shanghai Public Security Policy Consultation Office.Motorcycles have been banned from almost all the main streets in Shanghai, Huang said, and the city stopped accepting motorcycle registrations in 2002. After China joined the World Trade Organization in 2001, import restrictions, quotas and tariffs dropped substantially against foreign motorcycle manufacturers, but municipal traffic ordinances have remained, Hoelter said. “The problem is although we can now sell our motorcycles in China, the Chinese can’t use them, at least if you live in an urban area,” he said. Foreign manufacturing advocates say the policy, while somewhat justified by safety concerns, has created an unfair barrier to access. Harley-Davidson estimates small Chinese manufacturers build some 17 million motorcycles a year – most for domestic consumption – but most are small and used in rural areas, so they evade many of the restrictions on Harley-style heavyweight bikes. Other bikes such as 1950s-era Chang Jiang 750, which are still used by the Chinese government, are considered three-wheelers because of a sidecar, Hoelter said. In contrast, BMW, which entered the Chinese motorcycle market in April 2003, said it sold only 70 bikes on the mainland last year. The main barriers the German company has faced are riding bans in big cities and motorways, high customs duties, poor insurance coverage and the huge gap between legally sold and illegally imported motorcycles, said Stefanie Lowenstein, spokeswoman for the BMW Group.Liu Xintong, secretary-general of China Motorcycle Industry Association, said the result is that pent-up demand for large motorcycles is going unfulfilled. “Motorcycle riding fans are still eager to get top machines like Harley-Davidsons,” he said. “But the government policy seems not motorcycle-friendly at all.” Alan Tonelson, a research fellow at the U.S. Business and Industry Council, said all U.S. manufacturers still face a “very formidable array” of barriers to gaining access to the Chinese market. “U.S. government attempts to reduce, much less eliminate, these trade barriers, has been woefully ineffective,” he said. For now, Harley-Davidson is going to drive around them. The company’s managing director for China, Dave Foley, said the company has selected a dealer and that before summer, “more specific communication will be forthcoming.”He declined to say where it would be, but noted the Beijing area had the highest concentration of riders of imported heavyweight motorcycles in the country. Motorcycles may not be operated within Beijing’s Third Ring Road, a 30-mile highway that encircles the city, so Hoelter said a likely dealer location would be outside the city core. But the company will have to sell its products, which can exceed $20,000 retail, in a country where most Chinese make around $1,000 a year. “The potential is enormous but it’s up to us to really develop that leisure-oriented market,” Foley said. The company said it was too early to forecast sales, but estimated there were more than 1,000 heavyweight motorcycle riders in China, most of whom acquired their bikes through unofficial channels.Analyst Timothy Conder of A.G. Edwards & Sons, Inc. said it may be slow-going but Harley-Davidson should eventually win out. “What they’re selling is Americana. I think they should do well,” he said. Chen Lexing, a 37-year-old real estate worker in Guangzhou, said he and his group of Harley riders leave the city before dawn on weekend outings in Guangdong Province. They can’t obtain license plates in the city of Guangzhou because their bikes are some five times the allowed engine size of 250cc.Chen said he worries that Guangzhou will ban motorcycles altogether next year, but is hopeful at news that Harley is making inroads. “I hope Harley-Davidson moves into China, sells more motorcycles and works with the government so that more roads and places will open up to motorcycle riders,” he said. Hoelter said the road into China will be a long one.”China is certainly today from the market-access perspective, our most daunting challenge,” he said. “It’s going to be a long-term effort, it will no doubt be a multifaceted effort and we’re going to have to be patient.” Let’s ride the Great Wall HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHO TO MARRY?–( 1 ) You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Back in April, the stock plunged to $47.66 after the company reported a slowdown in first-quarter motorcycle sales. But the 52-week nadir of $44.40 came in October right before upbeat third-quarter results buoyed shares. See full story. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call are expecting a fourth-quarter profit, on average, of 81 cents a share with revenue of $1.35 billion. For the year, profit is pegged at $3.38 a share. Citigroup downgraded Harley on Thursday to hold from buy, explaining that shares may be overheated, having outperformed the S&P 500 by 13% since Oct. 10. “Given the lack of positive new data points since the company reported third quarter 2005 figures, we do not view the stock as compelling at these levels,” said analyst Gregory Badishkanian, pointing out the stock is closing in on his $57 per-share target. Anthony Gikas, analyst at Piper Jaffray, was also bearish when he said earlier in the week that he wouldn’t be surprised if a number of factors lead Harley management to cut production estimates in April. “In addition to declining used bike prices, more-than-seasonal discounts on new bikes, slow improvement to dealership performance, and elevated inventory levels at most dealerships suggests current 2006 production guidance (5%-9%) is too high,” he said in a note reiterating his market perform rating. The Hog maker, which also sells bikes under the Buell name, is banking on younger riders and rising global demand to help it achieve that 5%-9% growth outlook in 2006. –from Rogue BIG TWIN WEST ANNOUNCES CELEBRITY/MASTER BUILDER BUILD-OFF–Big Twin West Announces Celebrity/ Master Bike Builder Build-Off Lead Singer of Smashmouth to Join Build-Off Team. New York, New York – January 20, 2006 ? Advanstar Communications, Inc ? a leading provider of print, event and online media for the powersports, off-road and automotive aftermarkets – today announced a Celebrity and Master Bike Builder build off, to be held at Big Twin West, a leading custom motorcycle industry trade show, in Las Vegas on December 1?3, 2006 at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Convention Center. The Celebrity / Master Builder feature will pit four teams, each consisting of a celebrity and a master builder, against each other in an exciting custom bike building competition. The four completed motorcycles will then be auctioned at the close of the event with the proceeds going to charities chosen by the teams. Steve Harwell, lead singer of Smashmouth, is the first of four celebrities to sign up to get their hands dirty with master builders such as Paul Yaffe and Dawn Norakas. ?The custom bike lifestyle is very similar to the rock music world and there are many of us who cross over,? said Steve Harwell. ?When we are not on tour or recording we are watching what is going on in the custom bike world and some of these builders are like rock stars to us. To get the chance to build a bike with them and provide some charity is great,? Harwell continued. Each team will be given all of the components they need and the opportunity to design and paint a complete custom motorcycle. Final assembly of the bike will take place under the watchful eyes of the exhibitors and attendees at Big Twin West in December 2006. ?This is so cool and a really fun way to help out people in need and there are some great people involved in this,? said Paul Yaffe, master bike builder. ?More and more women are discovering custom bikes and the addition of Dawn Norakas mirrors what?s happening in the custom world,? he went on to say. In addition to Harwell, Yaffe and Norakas, the remaining celebrities and master builders will be introduced at key events throughout the season and they will have an opportunity to gather ahead of the event to create a truly unique motorcycle. The celebrities will be invited to nominate a charity of their choice and at the conclusion of the build off, the bikes will be auctioned with the proceeds from each bike being donated to the respective charity. Steve Harwell has chosen the Victory Junction Gang Camp as his benefiting charity. The Victory Junction Gang Camp enriches the lives of children with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses by providing life-changing camping experiences that are exciting, fun, and empowering, in a safe and medically sound environment. Hey,
This year is going to be wild in so many respects. I’ll touch on one major effort, our Bonneville Run. Bikernet is sponsoring Bubs Bonneville Motorcycle Only speed week in September 3-7, produced by Dennis Manning and his wife Delvene. “Chris Carr has just signed to ride our streamliner,” Dennis excitedly told me.
There are currently four streamlines lined up to go after the Easyriders World Land Speed Record for motorcycles, 321 mph. Mike’s Hyabusa has hit 340 in one pass (you need a two-pass average to beat the record), Sam Wheeler’s Kawasaki streamliner broke 330 mph one way, Dennis Manning’s Bub line is rolling over 200, and there’s a Vincent double engine job in the running. “Did you know that a 50cc (3 cubic inch) streamlined motorcycle did 140 mph,” Dennis said? “Incredible.” This will be the third year on the salt and with the World’s Fastest Indian movie, released in February, should drive interest.
Dennis is looking for a handful of sponsors. For more or any information regarding the September salt effort drop a line to DelveneM@bub.com or call (530) 477-7490. He worked with the AMA and FIM to rewrite their rule books and make the effort more standardized and universal. “It’s all on line on our web site,” Dennis told me. If you break a record at his event it’s entered into both the AMA and FIM records.
Bikernet is involved with two, maybe three bikes and three teams heading to the salt. There’s the 5-Ball Racing Team based at the Bikernet headquarters. The Chop And Grind team working in a desert sand dune in 15 Palms, Calif and Custom Performance Turbo’d V-Rod Racers out of Phoenix. We’ll be riding out and everyone is invited.
Let’s hit the news:
BIKER BUILD-OFF STORMING AHEAD– “Got a call on Tuesday from Hugh King with Discovery. Kim hasbeen selected for the series along with Yaffe and Dave Perewitz. We’ve beenwaiting for this for a long time. Filming starts March 22nd for the Perewitz/Yaffe Build-Off.”

AVON GOES TALL– Leading tire manufacturer Avon introduces two new sizes to suit custom bikes. The new tires, a 130/60R23 64V AM41 (front) and 280/40R20 89V AM42 (rear) will be the latest additions to Avon’s top-selling Venom range.
The front 130/60R23 AM41 Venom will fit rims between 3.5 and 4.00 inches, and will have a nominal width of 130mm and an approximate overall diameter of 740mm. The rear 280/40R20 AM42 Venom has been designed for rims between 9.5 and 10.5 inches and will measure an estimated 280mm wide, with an overall diameter of approximately 732mm.
The new Venom pairing reflects an emerging trend in the custom market for tires that not only show off wheel manufacturers’ latest designs, but which are also true road tires, capable of matching the performance potential of the machines to which they are fitted. Both new tires are V-rated for speeds of up to 149mph/240 kph.
The 280/40R20 is the world’s first 20-inch D.O.T. approved rear custom tire. With Aramid belts for added stability, its radial construction means it can be paired with a radial, bias belted or crossply front tire. As well, the wind-on zero-degree aramid belt restricts tire growth.
Both front and rear tires boast special ‘rim protectors’ to help prevent damage to wheels from potholes. Usually only seen on top of the range car tires, the Avon rim protection system has proved to be a welcome feature for riders investing in expensive custom wheels.
Commenting on the new tires, Larry Hoppe of Avon North America said, “This pairing has been the subject of a very considerable design process to ensure that the tires are not only proportionally matched for maximum aesthetic effect but are also dynamically compatible for sure-footed performance.
Major custom builders are already tooling up in anticipation of the new Venoms, which will be on sale from spring 2006.
The tires will be previewed at Avon’s booth, at the V-Twin Motorcycle Show in Cincinnati February 4-6th, 2006 and Dealernews show in Indianapolis Feb. 18-20th, 2006.

VIRGINA MC TRAINING BILLS NEEDS ATTENTION–In the meantime, there is one specific bill that currently requires ourattention. HB 280 is a bill that requires a person to pass an MSFcertified motorcycle rider training course before a license to operate amotorcycle is granted. There are a few reasons we take issue with thisbill. First, the Virginia Rider Training Program is administered by theDMV, which is extremely experienced and competent in this area.
Itshould be up to the DMV to decide which particular certified motorcyclerider training course is best for riders in Virginia. Additionally, theVirginia Rider Training Program does not have the facilities orresources to meet the demand that would result in requiring this coursefor all new riders. And finally, this bill is discriminatory ? there isno required certification before being granted a drivers license tooperate an automobile, why should motorcycles be singled out?
Pleasetake a moment and contact this bill’s patron (Del. Mamye Bacote) and lether know that while we support motorcycle safety, we are against thistype of legislation. As always, be respectful. There is no e-mail addresslisted on the legislative website for Del. Bacote, but here are herphone numbers. You will likely reach an aid, so I would call both ofthem. In Richmond – (804) 698-1095 and in Newport News (757) 244-4415.
This is the first of many calls to action you will be receiving duringthis legislative session.
Lobby Day was January 16th at the Capitol. VCOM is once again offering apre-Lobby Day meeting on January 15 where upcoming legislation andtalking points will be discussed
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitateto contact me.
Ride safe, ride free.

COLORADO FIRST FALLEN BIKER SIGN–Below is a link to a slide show of pictures taken yesterday at the memorial for Brian Fales. Brian was killed by a ROW violation in Nov. 04. The sign does not indicate he was a biker, but, this is a first step. At least we have them recognizing us a citizen. The DA is the suit at the microphone that prosecuted the woman who killed Brian. I am not sure what she was charged with, but she is still walking around free. If there is any picture you would like to copy, feel free to do so. Just right click and save as. If you have a problem with this link, let me know.
SOUNDS LIKE A BIKER EVENT–ST. LOUIS (AP) — Ken Ortmann, an alderman who owns a local tavern wants to lower the penalties for public urination before the Feb. 25 Mardi Gras Parade.Ortmann said his bill would allow police to issue different citations for public urinators who try to be discreet than they might for those who are more open about it.
“There’s a difference between going in the middle of the street, in front of God and country, and somebody who is behind a Dumpster,” Ortmann said.
Public urination is now classified as lewd and lascivious conduct, which carries a penalty of 90 days in jail, a $100 to $500 fine, or both. Ortmann’s proposal doesn’t change the maximum penalties, but he hopes the actual penalty would be much less.

POKER RUNS–Thanks possibly to our AG the South Carolina AG has just issued an identicalRuling. Other states look at Texas to see how we handle issues such as this.Hopefully we can come up with a successful solution.
We are currently awaitingopinion from an attorney who is considering our proposals for getting aroundthe ruling. If we receive word that we would possibly have a winnable case incourt if called on to do so then we will become a test case.
We put PokerRun on our Flyer for the Texas Independence Day Freedom Rally to be held inGroesbeck on March 3-5. Come out and join us and be a part of seeing how itplays out.
Who better than our politically active Warriors and Allies to do this? We havebeen protecting biker’s rights for the last 14 years with less than 1/10 of 1%of Texas riders doing their part. This is a real let down from days of old whenriders were Bros and worked together for the good of all who ride.
URGENT ************* URGENT ************* URGENT
WE HAVE just RECEIVED WORD FROM THE ATTORNEY THAT MY IDEAS HAVE MERIT AND WILLPROBABLY BE A WINNABLE CASE. He will be on hand to watch it play out.I will personally host the Run so no one but me will be charged in the Event ofa court case.
Taking a page from our Pennsylvania brothers and sisters playbook I shall host a RUN-N-GUN Event. We did one of these in Iowa at last yearsSOLR Tea Party. It was a lot of fun and my little Brother ( a petite lady namedPenny) won the event by scoring a Royal Heart Flush using a 357 Magnum.
Be there and enjoy the fun.

“A Model Champion”

David Uhl’s characteristic vintage paintings have become icons in the Harley-Davidson world. Admirers have witnessed his uncanny ability in images such as “Ruby” and “A Change in the Weather”. Collectors have come to expect the “bordering on perfection” techniques so prevalent in David’s style of art. Along with the accolades comes a deep sense of responsibility and respect that Mr. Uhl feels toward the subject matter. “Depicting Harley-Davidson motorcycles and staying true to the archival research is something I am very passionate about”, states Mr. Uhl, “It amazes me to consider the rich history and impact that Harley-Davidson has had on virtually every American citizen for the last century. I am very honored to be a small part of this legacy.”
In being selected to paint an official 100th Anniversary work it was obvious that David would be depicting a very early event. This photo-research was fetched from the Rosencrans collection. Mr. Rosencrans was the company’s photographer in its infancy. A striking analogy is apparent in the scene as each individual is wearing a unique style of hat. This correlates with the modern notion that enthusiasts are “separate from the pack.” Lighting is an interesting aspect of the work. David explains the characteristics of painting an indoor scene vs. an outdoor scene: “The difference is huge; outdoor lighting always comes from one source, the sun, and heads in a single direction. Indoors, light refracts through the windows and bounces off every object in the room. Figuring gradations of shadows and the proper light hitting the subject’s faces requires playing up detail in some areas and suppressing detail in other areas. It is quite complicated; like comparing arithmetic to calculus.”
“A Model Champion”, David Uhl’s 100h Anniversary painting, depicts a simpler yet not less enthusiastic era in Harley-Davidson’s history. The expressions on their faces portray a sense of joy and a feeling that great things are in store for Harley-Davidson Motor Company. Truly spectacular art raises more questions than it answers and leads us to the depths of our imaginations. David Uhl is dedicated to the purpose of educating and fascinating enthusiasts and art collectors alike. We look forward with great anticipation to the next 100 years.

VIRGINIA HELMET LAW DECLARED UNCONSTITUTIONALLY VAGUE Portions of Virginia’s motorcycle helmet law were declared unconstitutional on Friday, December 9, 2005 by a judge of the Newport News Circuit Court. In a ten page memorandum order, Hon. H. Vincent Conway, Jr. held that the portions of Va. Code subsection 46.2-910 which defined the standards that a protective helmet must meet or exceed were unconstitutionally vague, denied due process and were unenforceable. The decision marked another victory in the battle by the Law Offices of Tom McGrath to challenge Virginia’s helmet law.
McGrath, who is the Aid to Injured Motorcyclists (AIM) Attorney for Virginia, and his Newport News associate Matt Danielson concentrate their practice on representing injured motorcyclists. In addition, they provide legislative lobbying services and traffic citation defense for the motorcycling community.
In the past five years they have successfully defended over fifty bikers charged with violation of Virginia’s helmet statute. Although the constitutional arguments have been raised many times before, the courts have previously ruled that the Commonwealth could not prove a violation of the statute and thereby avoided a ruling on the constitutional issues. Judge Conway did not follow this course and instead found at least some of McGrath’s arguments to be persuasive.
“The impact of Judge Conway’s decision is that any helmet selected by a motorcyclist in Newport News now complies with the statute since the standards previously used have been invalidated,” explained McGrath.
BIKERS PROTEST DISCRIMINATION AGAINST “COLORS” Almost all Southern California motorcycle clubs put their differences aside to band together to fight outright discrimination on Sunday, December 4, 2005 at the Veterans Stadium during a monthly motorcycle swap meet that bars patcholders from attending.
Popeye, a board member of the Confederation of Clubs of Southern California and member of the Vietnam Vets MC, attended to help organize the rally with Gill Mellen, ABATE of California public relations officer.
Everyone took turns at the entrance with picket signs that said, “Stop Discrimination Against Patcholders,” “Together We Stand,” and other such slogans.
“As people and vendors rolled up they were told not to go in if they wanted to stand up for equal rights and that the same people they were banning were the ones who made the swap meet great,” wrote Karyn Chassman in Quick Throttle magazine. “A few vendors and lots of patrons turned around and left, which we applauded and cheered as they did.”
The protesters hoped to resolve the problems between the patcholders and the swap meet and to make bikers aware of the injustice and prejudice going on around them that they may one day face.
All in all, the protest accomplished it’s goals, as all parties involved, from the swap meet management to the Confederation of Clubs, are in communication and hope the resolve this matter positively and for the good of the entire motorcycling community.
POKER RUNS RULED ILLEGAL IN TEXAS While some nonprofit organizations raise money by hosting games of bingo and selling raffle tickets, motorcycle riders have had their own strategy to make giving fun – the poker run.
Although they can be organized differently, poker runs typically involve motorcycle riders paying a fee to participate and then they draw their cards at stops along a designated route. When they reach their destination, cash prizes are awarded for the best hands and sometimes the worst hand.
It’s a traditional way among bikers to have fun while raising money for a good cause, according to Sputnik, the state chairman of the Texas Motorcycle Rights Association, but Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott recently ruled that poker runs are illegal when participants must make a charitable donation to ride and have a chance to win cash prizes at the end.
“It’s just a way of life for us,” said Sputnik, who also serves on the National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM) Legislative Task Force. “It’s a way to get together, have fun and compete against each other. It’s not so much about the money.”
Abbott, however, has frustrated the bikers by recently declaring that poker runs constitute illegal gambling. “Even if the contribution goes to a charitable cause and the nonprofit organization will pay prizes from other money, a participant pays money for the chance to win a prize,” Abbott said in the opinion. “Thus we conclude … the nonprofit organization would become a custodian of a bet in violation of Texas law.”
Such a violation is a Class A misdemeanor and punishable by either fine of up to $4,000, up to a year in jail, or both.
The motorcycle community will appeal to legislators for a statute to allow poker runs and challenge the attorney general’s opinion in court, if necessary, Sputnik said. In the meantime, the motorcycle rights association will consult its attorneys to find ways around the ruling, he said.
“We’re going to look at getting around it on the basis of not being a game of chance, but a game of skill,” Sputnik said. “If that doesn’t work, we’ll look at doing something legislatively in the next session. It is really going to affect who we support in the election this time.”
GOVERNATOR INJURED IN MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and his 12 year old son, Patrick, received minor injuries in a recent motorcycle accident near their Brentwood home when a neighbor backed into the street in front of the governor’s Harley-Davidson motorcycle equipped with sidecar.
Schwarzenegger received 15 stitches to repair a cut lip, but may have skidded into more trouble when it was discovered that the big screen action hero has been riding motorcycles for years without a proper license endorsement.
The governor has the Class C license, which technically covers the operation of a sidecar under state motor vehicle law; but Schwarzenegger said he “never thought about” getting his motorcycle license. He said that he had a motorcycle license when he lived in Europe, but never considered obtaining another one after he immigrated to the United States in 1968.
But now after all the brouhaha over his most recent accident, he has promised to get his license and vowed to continue to ride. In December 2001, Schwarzenegger broke six ribs and was hospitalized for four days after a motorcycle crash in Los Angeles when a car stopped in front of him and he was unable to change lanes to avoid the vehicle.
JANKLOW GETS LAW LICENSE BACK The South Dakota Supreme Court ruled on January 5th to reinstate the law license of former Congressman Bill Janklow, who was convicted of felony manslaughter in the traffic death of a motorcyclist in 2003.
The former four-term governor was forced to resign from Congress and lost his license and right to practice law when he was convicted of second-degree manslaughter, reckless driving, speeding and failure to stop at a stop sign in the death of motorcyclist Randy Scott, 55. who was killed in August 2003 when Janklow blew through a stop sign and into the path of Scott’s motorcycle.
After a jury found him guilty, Janklow was sentenced to only 100 days in jail, was placed on probation until January 2007 and cannot drive for three years.
BIKE THEFTS SURGE It’s no secret that in the last five years, the motorcycle market has experienced phenomenal growth. Sales have doubled since 1999 and reached their highest levels in three decades. Unfortunately, going hand in hand with that has been an alarming increase in the instances of bike theft.
The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) reports that motorcycle theft increased more than 55% from 2002 to 2003 in the U.S. and Canada. That’s one bike stolen every 9.5 minutes. Of these stolen bikes, only 25-30% were recovered.
What are the most effective means of protecting your ride? A survey conducted last spring by Opinion Research Corporation indicated what bike owners are currently doing: 88% always keep their bikes concealed in a garage or storage area when parked at home; 80% remove their keys from their parked bikes; 76% use locks; 62% park in a well-lit area and 47% use kill stitches in an attempt to prevent theft.
Only 16% use alarms.
MISSISSIPPI MOTORCYCLE OWNERS UNFAIRLY TAXED The Mississippi State Tax Commission recently decided to double and in some cases triple the ad valorem tax on motorcycles, directing the collection of more tax on new motorcycles than on cars and trucks that cost twice as much, making motorcyclists shoulder an unfair share of the tax burden.
Previously, the state taxed motorcycles from value schedules based on the displacement of the engine. On Sept. 1, the Tax Commission began using a computer program purchased from R.L. Polk & Co. to calculate the assessed value of each motorcycle.
There are four problems with what is now going on:
* The sales tax on new motorcycles is 7 percent. Purchasers of new cars and trucks are charged only 5 percent.
* Under the current system for collecting ad valorem taxes on cars and trucks, the tax is based on a figure which is 90 percent of Manufacturers’ Suggested Retail Price. The calculation of the tax on motorcycles uses MSRP as “true value.”
* Owners of cars and trucks receive a “legislative tax credit” which significantly reduces the ad valorem tax they pay when they purchase and renew their tags, whereas motorcycles were specifically exempted.
* The taxation of motorcycles is done in secret, out of public view, and Public Records Act requests for access to the program have been denied.
To address this inequity, Mississippi State Representatives Beckett and Bounds have introduced House Bill 55; “AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 27-51-101, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO INCLUDE MOTORCYCLES IN THE DEFINITION OF “PRIVATE CARRIER OF PASSENGERS” FOR THE PURPOSES OF BEING ELIGIBLE FOR A TAX CREDIT AGAINST MOTOR VEHICLE AD VALOREM TAXES; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.”
According to ABATE of Mississippi, the motorcycle community is not looking for any special treatment, we are just asking for equality.
S.C. BILL WOULD MAKE STOP LIGHTS OPTIONAL FOR BIKERS With 44 years of motorcycle riding experience, Billy Richardson knows what he likes – “You’re out in the open a lot more, it’s more relaxing” – and what he doesn’t. “I get upset sitting at the traffic lights and waiting all the time,” he says.
It’s a problem that not only irritated him, but it prompted him to write a bill. A piece of legislation that – if passed – would turn sensored stop lights into stop signs for motorcycle riders.
Richardson proposed the legislation because he says most bikes aren’t heavy enough to set off sensors, so unless a car pulled up, the light wouldn’t change.
“We want the freedom to go if the road is clear. We’re not going to pull out. Trust me, ain’t no motorcycle gonna pull out in front of nobody,” he says.
They would, though, get to go straight, go left, whatever, when drivers of cars couldn’t.
He says he has a lot of support and hopes to soon get the green light to go on red.
“We’ve got good positive feedback about it and I feel good. I won’t lie about it, I feel good,” he says with a grin.
Richardson says Minnesota, Tennessee and Arkansas already have similar laws in effect.
MALAYSIAN CITIES MAY BAN MOTORCYCLES The Government of Malaysia has been urged to ban motorcycle use in city centers to reduce accidents. Malaysian Association for Community Development Volunteers (MACOM) president, Norizan Sharif said current actions against errant motorcyclists had not been effective.
Norizan added that such a ban would help reduce the number of vehicles going into city centers, accidents, illegal racing and related problems. The ban could also help reduce crimes such as snatch thefts and also air and noise pollution, she added.
“There is sufficient cheap public transport in Malaysian cities which can be used by motorcyclists,” she said, adding that motorcycles should continue to be allowed in rural areas because public transportation there is still lacking.

MOONING DEEMED DISQUISTING BUT LEGAL IN MARYLAND– WASHINGTON – Acquitting a Germantown man who exposed his buttocks during an argument with a neighbor, a Montgomery County Circuit Court judge ruled yesterday that mooning, while distasteful, is not illegal in Maryland.
“If exposure of half of the buttock constituted indecent exposure, any woman wearing a thong at the beach at Ocean City would be guilty,” Judge John W. Debelius III said after the bench trial, reversing the ruling of a District Court judge.
Debelius made clear his disdain for the defendant, calling the alleged act “disgusting” and “demeaning.” The outcome could have been different, he suggested, if the man had been on trial for “being a jerk.”
The case arose from a June 7 argument between the defendant, Raymond Hugh McNealy, 44, and a neighbor, Nanette Vonfeldt. Vonfeldt pressed charges against McNealy after he allegedly yelled and, according to Vonfeldt, threatened to “blow up my building” as she and her 8-year-old daughter walked out of their apartment, in the 20200 block of Shipley Terrace in Germantown.
“Then, for whatever reason, in full view of my daughter, he mooned us,” Vonfeldt wrote in a court document. The two had a long-standing feud over issues before their homeowners association, which held a heated meeting the night before, McNealy’s attorneys said. McNealy wanted Vonfeldt off the association’s board, his attorneys said.

FLORIDA MUSEUM TAKES AN ARTFUL MOTORCYCLE ANGLE– A exhibition of 70 motorcycles spanning 120 years makes the connection between transportion, art, design and popular culture.BY GARY McKECHNIE AND NANCY HOWELL Special to The Miami Herald What’s the subject of Florida’s hottest art exhibition? Manets? Monets? Mummies?Try motorcycles. A fleet of more than 70 streamlined, sensuous, and seductive motorcycles rolling into the Orlando Museum of Art Jan. 22 through July 23 in an exhibit that explores the motorcycle as both cultural icon and design achievement.
If the exhibition sounds familiar, think back to 1998 when Art of the Motorcycle was one of most popular presentations ever displayed at New York’s Guggenheim Museum. The exhibit later set attendance records in Las Vegas and Memphis.
Now, in its exclusive Florida showing, the most expertly designed motorcycles, scooters, and mopeds will challenge conventional assumptions about art and popular culture. And it’ll look darned cool while doing it.BUT IS IT ART?
Motorcycling is the rare pastime that combines transportation with a passion for life. Riding a motorcycle links serenity with discovery; it defines freedom, self-expression, and adventure. It satisfies a range of desires from adrenaline to Zen. And it accomplishes all of this by design. Artistic and functional design.
Even when propped on its center stand, a motorcycle looks fleet and fast. The pipes sweeping back from the compact engine, the curved fuel tank placed smartly between the rider and the handlebars, the saddlebags tapering off the tail end of the bike, the front wheel piercing the road ahead. Everything — with the possible exception of leather tassels dangling from the handgrips — is there for a reason. These elements combined, a motorcycle is, by design, a work of art.
With the Art of the Motorcycle, the Orlando Museum of Art has opened the throttle on what may become the most impressive exhibition in its 77-year history.

BIKERNET BONNEVILLE EFFORT RESEARCH BEGINS– Seeing as how you plan to go 200 MPH, and seeing as how I am probably the only guy at Bikernet who rides fast bikes on a regualr basis, I thought I’d better chime in with some ideas for you mate.
Describe or send me a pic of what your speed demon is going to look like when you race it.Is it going to have one of those fully enclosed canopies, ala the Worlds Fastest Indian and the original Easyriders type salt flats bike or is it going to be just a normalish looking two wheeled machine?I am guessing the latter.
I am also guessing your going to have some kind of windshield or fairing at the front and sides of the bike?Ideas are changing in the sports bike world about weather an angular, sharp shield is more effective than a smooth curved shield.
I think sharp and angular is ok if there is no strong side wind. Flat panels get wind blasted.
Now you can save weight by not having any brakes…I kid you not.You can also save weight by having very small ones and a smaller disc than most on- road bikes use, like a lighter disc from a trailbike.Aluminium handlebars. Aluminium as much as you can actually!
I am going to take a look at some stuff I have from the UK 200 MPH club, I recall they had some useful info, just can’t remember it all.
Assuming you are riding a bike and not lying down inside a rocket canopy…what’s your thought on the gear your going to wear? Some of the new full face helmets, like Nitro, have wind deflection scallops on the back, great idea. When you’re doing real fast speed on a bike you need to cellotape (sticky tape) the visor shut. Have someone do it just before you take off. People say with modern visors you don’t have to… At 200 MPH I would not be taking any chances it might flip open myself.Make sure the helmet is a real tight fit also.
If it’s very sunny and the glare is a problem, apart from a tinted visor; grab a roll of black electrical tape, the half inch wide vinyl stuff. Lay one strip across the top edge of the visor. Then one below just overlapping the first piece a little. Keeps the sun out of your eyes.
Race skins, leathers; tight form fitting ones with as much body armour as you can stand. Or…get a body armour zip up jacket outfit, connected by mesh, and put your riding jacket over the top. Some street racers now put the armour mesh over the top of their jackets to save the leather, the armour mesh outfit takes the brunt of any impact. Most mesh armour now comes with a good back protector also.
Gloves…personal choice as to what you want of course, but make sure they come well over cuffs of jacket to stop any wind going down sleeves of jacket, it’s all wind resistance you don’t need. Collar needs to be round and a good fit, to stop wind blasting down the neck area. Can be padded out by a folded bandana.
Leather pants tucked into smooth leather race boots, wrap some of that silver plastic tape, the two inch wide stuff, around top of boot…stops wind deflecting around top of boot. Like a seal. If pants are a bit loose around the knee area, wrap more silver tape above and below knee after you get on bike. The end of all the tape needs to facing away from the direction you are travelling in. So the wind actually presses the tape tighter!
If you’re wearing a two piece jacket and pants outfit, more tape wrapped around waist to join suit together and not let any wind get up under jacket. It all slows you down. Some guys even polish their jackets before they do speed runs!
I am sure there is tons of stuff I have not thought of.Here is something new from the UK MC news desk…they say that studies have proven that synthectic oil DOES NOT cause any clutch slippage whatsoever, that it is a myth. They say if your clutch starts to slip after you use syn oil, clutch was probably on the way out and the better oil simply showed the problem up because the oil is so much “slipperier” I am still thinking on that suggestion.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON ECONOMIC LESSON TIME–When Harley-Davidson Inc.’s stock price fell 22 percent over three days in April, Mark Sellers became an aggressive buyer.”I like to buy shares when there’s a panic,” said Sellers, a former Morningstar editor who launched his Chicago-based Sellers Capital Management in 2003. “When people hate a company, that’s when I buy.”
At the time, many Harley investors were selling, spooked by the company’s announcement that flat sales for the first quarter would force a cut in the year’s earnings forecast.Like other value investors eyeing Harley-Davidson, Sellers saw a company that has produced earnings growth averaging 26 percent during the past 10 years, has a return on equity of more than 28.8 percent and has one of the most recognizable brands in the country, if not the world.Additionally, the Milwaukee-based motorcycle manufacturer has relatively little debt and held $437 million in cash at the end of September. In recent years, the company has used its cash to repurchase stock and increase its dividend, and it is expected to generate a cash-flow return on investment of about 20 percent on roughly $5.3 billion in revenue. That’s more typical of a high-powered consumer products company.
After shares dropped to the mid-$40s from near $60 in April, Sellers saw a classically undervalued, oversold stock. In contrast, when Harley’s stock made its way into the mid-$50s per share toward the end of last year, Sellers began to sell much of his position as concerns arose about Harley’s aging customer base, rising interest rates and high gasoline prices. Most alarming, Sellers saw increasing dealer inventories, a sign of overproduction.
Even with its dominant position in the U.S. heavyweight motorcycle market, with a 48 percent share, followed by Honda at 19 percent and Suzuki at 10 percent, Harley-Davidson investors are, to use a roadster pun, at a crossroads.
Can the company meet its ambitious production goal of a 5 percent to 9 percent increase in 2006 by appealing to younger riders and largely untapped markets in Europe and Asia? Or is Harley-Davidson headed for the same flat production levels that helped cause its stock to drop so rapidly in April?
Anthony Gikas, a senior research analyst at Piper Jaffray in Minneapolis, was one who looked at increased dealer inventories and lowered his 2006 production forecast for Harley to unchanged from a 6 percent increase. Gikas, who rates the stock a “market perform,” predicted that Harley shares will remain range-bound for the near to mid-term.
But Linda Bannister, a consumer analyst at Edward Jones & Co. in St. Louis, said Harley-Davidson’s new sporty bikes make it well-positioned to meet its production goals while growing earnings at a high-single-digit rate, even without share repurchases.
Bannister does not see the inventory build-up as a problem. She points out that Harley long has intended to increase revenue by giving dealers more bikes to sell. Large inventories, she added, make it unlikely that prospective buyers, who had to join a waiting list in the past, will instead buy a Honda.
“Harley’s whole goal has been to get inventory at the dealers,” Bannister said. “That makes sense for the company to grow.”
Harley’s push during the past five years to increase production is in marked contrast to previous years, when the company regularly kept a lid on output to keep prices high. That was never so true as during its 1960s heydays, when the big bike emerged as a cult phenomenon. Back then, Sellers said, Harley could afford to foster its artificial scarcity. But in the 1970s and much of the ’80s, Harley lost its footing when competition from Yamaha and Kawasaki imports, coupled with questions about product quality, nearly leveled the company.
Starting in the early ’80s, Harley undertook a 20-year resurgence in which a new management team successfully leveraged its iconic brand while improving its big machines. James Ziemer, who took over as chief executive last year, was an original member of that management group.
Although some investors may flinch at the company’s decelerating earnings growth, Bannister argues that its high free cash flow offers ample compensation. Earnings per share grew 20 percent in 2004, and she expects 13 percent growth in 2005 and 10 percent this year. But the company also generates $800 million a year in cash.
“It’s the law of large numbers; all companies slow down in terms of growth,” she said. “We think the stock price is overly discounting earnings deceleration. What’s important is what the company is worth.”
By Bannister’s calculations, Harley’s shares trade at roughly 14 times the company’s 2006 earnings. During the past four years, Harley has sported a price-to-earnings multiple just below 25. If history is any guide, Harley’s shares are cheap.
As for Sellers, whose fund manages $50 million, he’s waiting for the next panic.”I love the company, but not as much as I used to because of the fact that they have to grow,” he said. “Right now, there’s no panic priced into the shares, so I’m waiting.”

BIKERNET BONNEVILLE TEAM SECRET FILES–Bonneville is the Holy Grail for many racers. It’s a far reaching, flat, moon scape of 65 square miles of salt. It’s a place for speed, real speed, top, all-out speed. We have three teams going so far, Chop and Grind from 13 Palms, California, Custom Performance from Phoenix and the Headquarters crew, or the 5-Ball Racing Team with Custom Chrome, Accurate Engineering, Baker Transmission and Departure Bike Works. We will share info, tips, connections, parts, you name it. Below is a performance exhaust lesson from Kenny Samson, the founder and head cleaning lady, at Samson Exhaust. Check it out:
The best thing to do is to start at the port diameter for flange fitment ofthe particular head. It is usually 1 3/4″ on most Harleys but the 45 may be1 5/8″. The rule of thumb as starters is to make each step about 8 inches long. The steps should be no more than 1/4″ increases but for fine tuning 1/8″increases would be better. The overall length is also important as well asthe step lengths.
I think you know Wink Eller, he ran our pipes on his RedOctober bike that were straight 1 3/4″ cut to the best performing length. Itdoes get involved and one set of pipes will not get you what you want. It’sexperimentations on section lengths, diameters, and overall length thatmatters.
Keep in mind that torque and horsepower are two different thingsand to get the best HP you need free flowing pipes but to get best torqueyou have to figure velocity into the equation.
My best advice is to buildyour engine the best performer you can with compression and cam lift, duration, timing, head flow, combustion squish and swirl, and blue printedto make sure the old cases are as square as possible.
Most Panheads tend towarp on the barrels base areas of the cases toward the cam side as well asthe lifter block surfaces. Don’t forget to square the barrel bases to thebore as well. You don’t want the piston going up and down cocked in thebarrel. This is a very common occurrence I think most people don’t have aclue about it, unless they have done some of this stuff before. I have squaredmy engines in the past and kicked ass on other people with the same cam, bore, stroke, compression, etc and it was just fun to know what I did andnot tell.
By the way, engine case distortion is almost a definite issue. It’s easily fixed by a skilled machinist who knows not to fuck it up.
Enoughranting…… geez I haven’t had to think this much in a long time and yougot my gray matter in a mush.
PS reversion cones only inhibit high flow and are mostly for low to mid range power by increasing velocity.
DONE DEAL—-Terrific news. Good info, jokes and I appreciate the timely contributions from all over the world. I get caught up with mixed feelings from time to time. It?s that artistic side, the Pisces in me. We struggled a long time to make Bikernet survive. Guys I promoted for years never stepped up to help. Guys like Dana Coates of Bros Club has consistently supported us. He was our insurance agent at Easyriders and took over the Bros Club.
Dana stuck with us as our numbers grew. Up against the HOG group and AAA Dana has built a helluva road service program for all riders. It?s a safety net for riders out on the road.
Okay, I jumped away from the computer for a half hour and adjusted the valves on the Sturgis Shovel. We just replaced the old stock, rebuilt heads with new S&S redesigned performance Shovelheads. It runs better already.
The plan was to eliminate my grandson?s mini-chop and the Shovelhead from the lifts and get rolling on the Bonneville/Sturgis efforts for 2006. We were successful. As of this weekend we will ship the 45 flathead engine and trans and start to work on the rolling chassis. Plus the CCI V Santee Frame will feel the cold steel on another lift as we begin to put the kit together and make our Bonneville based mods. Hang on for reports.

(OTC Bulletin Board: XPOI).
“It’s been a great run the last 10 years with American IronHorse but it’s time for me to move on to my next adventure,” said Edmondson. “Since 2004, after resigning as chief designer from the company, I’ve remained a director of the company helping to guide American IronHorse at its highest level. During this time, I?m very pleased that the company has continued to excel in the industry. However, my responsibilities with IronHorse have limited my ability to pursue other ideas in the motorcycle arena. I’m really looking forward to starting a new chapter in my life in an industry that I’m very passionate about.”
Edmondson co-founded American IronHorse in 1995 with Bill Rucker. He served as president of the company until 2003 after which he assumed the role of chief designer. I started writing this on Tuesday. Now I’m supposed to be a bike painter. http://www.crazyhorsepainting.com Monday I played computer expert but the problem is – I’m not. My so called expert friend let me down, as usual. So I had to become in expert on tablet monitors by 3pm. Which I sorta did, and now know more about tablet monitors than the average moron.
Tuesday – I was all set, ready to paint fire on these Panhead parts that are patiently sitting here waiting for me to perform magic on them. I go to bed early, did 7 miles on my mt bike, ate breakfast, ready set -PAINT! Well no. The husband had asked to check on why his prescriptions had not arrived in the mail as usual. Our health insurance had told us the week before everything was all set. No need to worry.. I make a quick phone call.
Three hours later, I found out that yes indeed in spite of being told over and over again that we had no insurance. I found out that yes, we do have insurance. And then proceed to jump through even more hoops. Go to dentist where my phone rings constantly. My editor needs to go over the final proof for my car painting book. I say “Sure it’s done, call me later when I don’t have sharp instruments shoved into my mouth.” Go home. Finally sit down and paint for an hour. It kicks ass!
Wednesday – Go over car book proof. All 190 pages. Takes from 9am to 7pm. Humm this book won’t be half bad after all!
Pictures of actual bike paint next week! And a big update from the Femme Fatales next week too. http://www.femmefatales06.blogspot.com.
Well anyhow it’s Panhead week over at Reader’s Showcase! Check it out and check out Nick Tyler’s ’63 Pan. Just gorgeous! Ok, Gotta go to painting. I think!

STEALTH REPORT FROM NORTH CAROLINA, BIRTHDAY BLUES–Well my birthday is tomorrow and I turn 49! Man I remember being 20 and thinking that 40 was a long, long, long time away. Man, where have all those years gone? Oh well there is nothing any of us can do to stop time from marching along. I guess what really matters is what we do with our time. Hopefully I am another year wiser instead of just another year older!
The weather has been spring like here all week with temps between 60–67 degrees. Here at STEALTH BIKE WORKS we are closed on Mondays, and I got in a little riding time Monday. I usually use Mondays as my day to catch up on things at home. Running a shop is a full time job but you still have to make some time for yourself.
As you get older you start to realize that there probably is more time behind you than there is in front of you. That is why you should never take anything for granted and try to live each day to the brink! Make a little time for yourself once in awhile and take that ride you have been wanting to go on.
I was thinking the other day about my life and I am always thinking about something to do with bikes. I find myself thinking about SBW or a bike I have in mind or just a ride to go on. SBW and bikes consume me. When I say that, I mean it in a good way. It is an addiction that I seek no cure for. It is what I am about and I find myself looking at other people who are not into bikes and start thinking for me that would be very boring day to day but to each his own.
It is funny how after all these years being into bikes, I still get excited and I get a certain feeling when I see a bike I really get into. It is like being 16 all over again, so in away being into bikes keeps us young at heart even though the years continue to roll by.
When I go out to celebrate my birthday Friday night I am not going to think about that #49. I am going to look forward to whatever is waiting around the next corner. Who knows maybe I will see a bike that really lights me up and it will be like being a kid again for a few minutes?
I came across this at a biker bar–restaurant some time back and I found while I was working in my garage and I thought I would share with all of you.
It is titled “BROTHERHOOD” and it goes like this;
I do not believe that you can explain in words, what Brotherhood means in the Biker world.
It does not come when you buy a Harley-Davidson.
It is not part of the warranty nor the leathers you wear.
It does not come when your break-in mileage comes around nor when you get your first servciceappointment.
It does come with, Respect, Honor and Devotion to those who would stand by your side in good times and in the bad.
It comes when your Brothers accept that you have what it takes to be Respected, Trusted, and Faithful to the end.
If it never comes, you were not mea’t to be a part of the Brotherhood.
If it does, be Proud and don’t screw it up!
Until next week, RIDE!

BIKERNET VTRACEGIRL.COM WEEKEND UPDATE–What a great turn out at Pomona, CA. VTRaceGirl was proudly serving Monster Energy Drinks along with free stickers, T-Shirts, wristbands and “M” tattoo’s. Monster was quite the hit. The important things bikers do before they get on the road for a long trip is fill their bike with fuel and fill their mind and body with Monster Energy Drink.
This was my first event representing Monster Energy Drink and I must say It was a huge HIT! Many bikers had either a Monster drink-sticker or a VTRaceGirl.com sticker on them. I am very proud to be associated with Monster Energy Drink.
The bright green “M” glow gave me a big VT glow and my Monster drinks kept me sharp throughout the event. Everywhere I went people said, “That’s the Monster Drag Racer”.
Thanks to Vinnie (Big Daddy), he was taking pictures of me in action. I will have these pictures updated on my website very soon. There were a lot kids at this event and I was surprised how much they know about Monster! The wristbands were a big hit with the kids. As I flew home I was thinking Wow, I cannot wait to do that again!
Thank you for making me a Monster Energy Drink sponsored athlete. I look forward to working with you and other athletes in an effort to successfully promote your company’s products. Please let me know if I can assist you in any way in preparing for the upcoming season.
