FAT CAT PIPES FROM D&D ROAR ON THE 2007 V-RODS– Fort Worth, Texas, November 29, 2006 – D&D Performance Enterprises has completed dyno testing and is shipping the 2007 Fat Cat exhaust pipes and slip-ons for the Harley-Davidson VRSC family of liquid-cooled V-Rod power-cruisers.

The Fat Cat performance pipes are now available for the new 2007 Harley-Davidson 1130cc and 1250cc double-overhead cam, V-Rod engines. THE STEALTH UNDERCOVER REPORT FROM NC–Here we go heading into December, where has the time gone? Wherever it went it passed by too fast!

This weekend STEALTH BIKE WORKS will be at the annual C.B.A. toy run on Sunday. The temps are supposed to cool down but that is o.k., no rain in the forecast. It is always a great time and a great cause. There are a lot of families in the Charlotte area who are touched by this toy run every year and without there would be no Christmas for them.

Here at the shop we keep moving along and we are on the verge of starting our first shop bike. An SBW original. We are all excited about this project. We are going to put our own stamp on this bike.

All I am going to say at this time is that it takes me back to some Dave Mann centerfolds?

You know BIKERNET is a great meeting place for people. When the “YOUR SHOT” section got updated to the Forum, I really hated it, but now I really dig it. I am a big enough person to admit when I was wrong. It has turned into a lot of fun. There is a regular group of people who talk on there and it is almost as if you get to know them personally. To me that is the GREAT thing about BIKERNET, it has always been about the people, the staff, the writers and readers and of course the one and only Mr. so and so. I forget his name.

Hey, I watched the new V-TWIN series last night on Speed T.V. and the interview with Wino Willie was great. Wino was father of the BOOZEFIGHTERS M.C. way back in 1946. Those guys sure knew how to have fun back in those days and he truly loved the lifestyle. You could see it in the twinkle of his eyes and you could hear it in his laugh!

A brother called the other-day and questioned me on this topic for his company, and I told him to draw a line down the center of a piece of paper. On one side of the line list the negative shit, like the weather, the price of gas, the war in Iraq, EPA regs and anything else he could think of.

Then I pointed out the positive aspects of today?s market: More motorcycling acceptance than ever before in history; more publicity and television coverage than ever before; a new population of younger riders; an active baby boomer population (touring bikes); in 1976 we sold over 1.25 million motorcycles in the U.S., we?re just scratching the 1 million a year mark today and Imagine how much the population has grown in 30 years. Bikes are more reliable than ever before; there?s more of a selection than ever before; more accessories and more magazines. In 2007 at least six new magazines are scheduled to be launched. Jesse James will publish two, Garage and West Coast Choppers. Dave Withrow kicked off American Cycle and American Bagger. Of course Primedia quickly launched Bagger and is testing the Girls of HOT BIKE, and there?s more. So look out. We are on the verge of a major motorcycle boom. Hell, next year Bikernet will launch Bikernet Television right here.

DRIVER SENTENCED IN FATAL CRASH–Robert Christin Streets, 23, of Haines City has been sentenced to 15 years in state prison for vehicular homicide, after a jury found him guilty in September of the August 2004 head-on collision that killed a motorcyclist.

At Streets’ trial, jurors were told that on Aug. 28, 2004, Streets was driving a Cadillac when he crossed the double yellow line on Polk City Road and struck a motorcycle driven by Bobby Joe King so hard that the motorcycle was shoved backward 247 feet from the point of impact.

King, 34, of Haines City, was flown by helicopter to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, where he died of his injuries. Streets was found to have a blood-alcohol level of .12, according to FDLE lab results. In Florida, a driver is considered impaired if his blood-alcohol level is .08 or higher.

Streets was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Donald Jacobson on Nov. 16.

WALMART HORROR STORIES–Mr. and Mrs. Fenton are retired. Mrs. Fenton insists that her husband go withher to Walmart. He gets bored with all the shopping.

He prefers to get in and get out, but Mrs. Fenton loves tobrowse. Here’s a letter sent to her from the store.

Dear Mrs. Fenton,

Over the past six months, your husband has been causing quite a commotion inour store. We cannot tolerate this behavior and may ban both of you from ourstores. We have documented all incidents on our video surveillance equipment.

BIKERNET BONNEVILLE TEAM MEMBER TAKES A CRUISE–Back in town after SEACRUISE. Saw the drawing for chassis. It might be a good idea to make a full size wall drawing of the bike. Wheel diameter, engine size so everything is proportional and no surprises. A cut out of the rider would do as well.

The past rider position was too high and not aerodynamic (free horsepower), ideal would be parallel with ground. A twin spar frame would actually be better (2 top frame tubes are to right and left of valve covers), which would bring the riders head closer to the valve covers. A low mounted fuel tank above the trans (touring) would also lower c.g. but would require a fuel pump.

Yes, public employees at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) are sitting on more than 150 million consumer complaints, keeping them secret and away from the prying eyes of consumers and the press.

U.S. automakers, of course, want the safety agency to keep it that way and, failing a wave of outrage by taxpayers, chances are that’s just what will happen.

LAS VEGAS BIKEFEST CHANGES RALLY DATES–The Las Vegas BikeFest Partnership announced today that the dates for future Las Vegas BikeFest events have been changed beginning with next year’s 2007 rally.

After nearly two years of analysis, surveys and discussions with industry stakeholders, the decision has been made to change the traditional date pattern for Las Vegas BikeFest in order to place the event during a period when temperatures are more conducive to traditional outdoor motorcycle rally activities.

Beginning with the 2007 event, the event dates will be two to three weeks later then the historic pattern in the middle of September.

The 20 year weather history for Las Vegas shows that average high temperatures during mid-September are 94?F – 96?F, and can often be over 100?F. A change by two to three weeks moves Las Vegas BikeFest to a period when the average high temperature drops to 86?F – 88?F – perfect rally weather.

“The 2006 Las Vegas BikeFest had unseasonably moderate weather and both vendors and attendees have told us it was the most enjoyable Las Vegas BikeFest ever”, states Harry Schwartz, Full Throttle Events, one of the Las Vegas BikeFest partners.

BEWARE OF DUMB DRIVERS–The test revealed that about one in 11 licensed drivers in the United States would fail a state drivers test, according to GMAC Insurance.

Rhode Island ranked last year, also, with an average score of 77. Last year, Oregon’s average score was 89, which still placed at the top of the rankings that year.

Based on average scores, northwestern states generally ranked highest while the bottom-ranking states were mostly in the northeast. One exception was Vermont, which ranked third. Washington state drivers ranked second. Drivers in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and the District of Columbia ranked at the bottom, with D.C. finishing just ahead of Rhode Island.

The 20-question test was based on questions asked in state driver’s license examinations. A score of 70 or higher is required to pass a standard state test.

The failure rate for drivers in northeastern states was about 16 percent, according to GMAC Insurance. The failure rate for drivers in northwestern states was from one to seven percent.

The test and an accompanying survey were completed by 5,288 licensed drivers including at least 100 from each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The survey asked about responses to specific driving situations.

Approximately one in three drivers said they usually do not stop for pedestrians in crosswalks. At least one out of five drivers did not know that pedestrians in a crosswalk have the right of way. At least one in five also did not know that roads are most slippery when it first starts to rain after a dry spell.

JEFF HOLTER LOOKING FOR AN ART DIRECTOR POSITION IN THE CUSTOM BIKE INDUSTRY–My name is Jeff Holter, I’m a designer living in Michigan. I’ve been working in the advertising/marketing industry as a Sr. Art Director/Designer since the early ’90s, and have been employed by large agencies until September. I’m now out on my own and looking for something new to do with my life.

I have grown up on bikes, had my first Harley X90 when I was 8 years old. As an artist, it was only natural that customizing entered into it along the way, and what started out as painting my own rides became doing custom paint for everyone else. When I began actually building my own bikes, I was easily able to adapt my art skills (and some CAD classes in college finally paid for themselves) into the design and build, which led to creating custom parts. I’ve been doing this on the side since the mid 90’s and now have a few parts that are on the market.

I thought if there were some way to combine my art talents and industry experience with my motorcycle background, I would be a happy guy.

I’m not really looking for a job ( I have been freelancing since I was laid off and doing very well ) as much as I am looking for some thoughts and ideas. Of course I would consider any opportunity that may be available.

-I do concepting, design and computer illustration in my advertising and marketing field. My commercial portfolio is at or

-I design and build websites. This is something I do mainly for myself and motorcycle industry friends, but I do quite a bit of layout design and concept design for my advertising clients as well.

-I design motorcycle parts. I like to design entire bikes, that way I get the consistency of the overall look I’m after, but I do end up mainly designing one-off parts for people. I have patented a couple of my own designs and currently market and sell them on my website (roadgearcomponents.com). You can also see some of my work on another builder’s site: DozerCycle.com. Dozer and I team up on a lot of bike builds (with me doing mainly component designs), and I do his website work as well.

-Photography_I do my own photography (which you can also see samples of on Dozer’s site and my RoadGear site) and retouching.

NEBRASKA RIDERS ON HELMETS AND TOURISM– ABATE of Nebraska has put out a position paper on how the mandatorymotorcycle helmet law has affected tourism in Nebraska. This is to bepresented this coming Friday to a statewide “Tourism Organization” thatasked us to attend and present our arguments for getting rid of themandatory motorcycle helmet law.

First, everything stated is documented either in my computer or on theInternet. NO ONE can say we made this stuff up.

Second, let me state that credit is given for everything in the paper(at least as far as I can trace the original back in time) and it waseither sent to me or found on the Internet.

Third, I need to thank those of you who responded to my question at theend of last week. All that info helped.

Fourth, I owe a HUGE DEBT of gratitude to Rainmaker, Duck and Celesteand my wonderful brothers in ABATE of West Virginia. Man, I’m messing with the industry. This is the second week in a row we were forced to produce the news a day early. Tomorrow we’re rolling to Las Vegas for the Big Twin West, dealer show, open bike show and auction. For several years Advanstar has attempted to dial in this weekend in Vegas. I think a west coast dealer show would be cool and you can’t beat Vegas.

Let’s see how Dave Scott, formerly of Custom Chrome, handles the proceedings this year. I wish them the best. I would actually like to see it in October to promote Christmas bargains and help shops through the winter. But what the hell do I know? Let’s hit the news. I need to load bikes, feed the dog and kick the woman. Or is that the other way around:

DAVE ZIEN APPRECIATION BANQUET–The attached flyer has information regarding the appreciation banquet being planned for Senator Dave Zien. He has contributed to bikers and veterans causes for nearly two decades. Please consider attending this wonderful program to thank Dave, or send a contribution and note personally thanking him for all he has done.

Right now, New York Myke, from San Diego H-D is planning on flying in to attend and speak (about Dave’s contributions to veterans). Myke rode with us to Wash.D.C. a few years back, during a Tommy Thompson Gov’s ride, when we dedicated several stones at the Viet Nam Memorial Wall. Dave, his friend Gino and Jimmy Boy carried these stones (pillow monuments like you see at cemeteries) all the way to D.C. on their bikes. We had about 250 riders with us on that trip.

Stormin Norman, President of the Low Riders MC, Staten Island, will also attend with Billy Eisengrien, the firefighter among three that raised the flag at ground zero (like the Iwo Jima picture), John Parham from J&P Cycles is working to make it here, and Tommy Thompson is expected to attend. Also, many state legislators and the Chairman of Veteran’s Affairs for Wisconsin, John Scocos. We expect a large number of bikers and veterans at this event.

I would love to see some motorcycle press attending and covering this. Rogue and Kit, are either of you able to attend for Easyriders? I asked Twiggy to speak to Dave Nichols about this. It’s going to be an historic event. I expect at least five and maybe more members of the Sturgis Hall of Fame to attend. Jim Putnam (SD) is planning on attending on behalf of the Lawmkers, and NCOM. Keith, it would be great to get you out of sunny California to visit Wisconsin in January. It doesn’t get that cold, not like Minnesota anyway. The hotel shares the parking lot with the dealership the event is at, and it’s a very nice place and they gave us great rates for this: $69. They’re giving Zien a complimentary whirlpool suite, since the owner met Zien once and was impressed by him. Attached is the flyer and registration form.

People can also register on line at www.accidentscene.net They will click on events and then on the Zien banquet. It’s an RSVP only affair, so we can get an accurate count for the caterer, and to close out registrations when we reach the room limit. That way people won’t come a distance only to be turned away because we reached room capacity. No tickets at the door. Let me know if any of you will be able to attend this event. I would appreciate it if you would speak as to Dave’s importance if you attend. If you cannot attend, please consider writing something that we could read at the event. This dealership has a private banquet room on the second floor, with a full bar (Harley is not happy with that) and we have had many successful events there in the past. They are good people. San Francisco on January 4th, 2007 to send Dawn Narakas and Scott Webster on their way to the Easyriders show in Pomona. Hartford, Conn. on January 6th to give trophy away to either Brian Fuller or Greg Westbury at the Northeast Motorcycle Expo; The Baton Rouge Drag Race on January 13th to give trophy away to either Andrew Williams or James Compton (whomever wins the drag race there); Philadelphia on January 27th and 28th to make a two day appearance at the Northeast Motorcycle Expo; Boston, Mass. on February 3rd and 4th for the Northeast Motorcycle Expo; Then Fredericksburg, Virginia on February 17th and 18th for the Northeast Motorcycle Expo.

OPEN LETTER TO BUILDERS FROM HUGH KING–As you would expect many builders and their fans have contacted me about appearing on Biker Build Off. I apologize for not answering your phone calls and E mails sooner, but the last few months have been crazy. We’ve had to pull out all stops to get six new shows into production. And I’ve been on the road continuously.

The six new shows in production will move from Discovery to The Learning Channel (Discovery owns TLC) The first of the six will air Monday, February 12th, then the rest will air on five Mondays after). Featured builders will be: Paul Cox & Keino vs. Trevelen.. Michael Barragan vs. Chica….Gard Hollinger vs. Jason Hart…Brian Fuller vs. Greg Westbury….Dawn Narakas vs. Scott Webster…Andrew Williams vs. James Compton.

Many have asked, “how do I get on the show?” We select builders based on a number of factors. Number one are the bikes he or she makes. We tend to select builders who are on the cutting edge of the industry…taking it in a new or unusual direction. The number two factor is will that builder be dynamic on television? (Note: We’re making a television show with the object of getting as many people as possible to watch our show because if we don’t get the numbers, the Network will cancel). The sad fact is: a builder may be an absolute genius but if he or she doesn’t come across on TV, we won’t select him or her. Other factors are: geographical location of shop, has that builder been featured on BBO before? Would a certain builder be a good match up with another builder? (We trying very hard to have builders who build similar style bikes compete.)

Another factor is: will a builder take the show in a radically new direction ie. Drag bikes, dirt bikes, Sport bikes. So you can see that there are many ballots which we throw into the basket, shake them around, eventually coming up with what we think will make an interesting show. And I have to say that the strong ratings which BBO gets indicate that we’re doing pretty good.

Though the line up for the six new shows is locked, The Learning Channel has an option to order six more. However we won’t know whether TLC plans to exercise its option till February or March of 07.

THE MICHAEL PRUGH REPORT–Last week a Bikernet reader wondered what happened to Michael from Jesse Jurren’s shop.

It was a hundred years in the making and we’ll never see anything like it in our lifetime again. It’s huge (more than 25 acres), it’s truly an entertainment extravaganza (more than 12 bands on two stages) and it has something for everyone.

On the weekend of July 20-21, at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, Harley-Davidson Motor Company will officially kick-start its 100th Anniversary with the Open Road Tour: a series of gigantic weekend festivals roaring into 10 cities worldwide celebrating motorcycles, music, history and more. Once the Open Road Tour rolls to a stop in the Summer of 2003, enthusiasts can join the Ride Home, organized rides throughout North America heading to Milwaukee, for three days of celebrations and special events. The official birthday party will take place in Milwaukee on August 31, 2003 and launch Harley-Davidson into the next 100 years.

But because the world has never seen an event the size or scope of the Open Road Tour it may be easier to look at it this way S

Open Road Tour visitors are invited to take in 100 years of Harley-Davidson history through multi-media and historic displays, which include: original artifacts, historical engines and an extraordinary collection of materials from company marketingcampaigns. Inside The Journey tent, visitors will also be encouraged to step into a story booth and share their favorite Harley-Davidson experiences.

Starting with a re-creation of the historic shed where the company was born, visitors can trace the history of Harley-Davidson in all aspects, even an archive collection of motorcycle toys. A special pavilion at the Open Road Tour called The Machine will feature a stunning exhibition of select motorcycles from the Harley-Davidson archives. Many of the unique motorcycles featured inside The Machine have never been seen in public before.

The Open Road Tour also features another special exhibit called The Culture which features Harley-Davidson’s distinctive style that has inspired people and popular culture around the world. Moving around The Culture, visitors will quickly become part of the world of Harley-Davidson, as they take in a look at Harley-Davidson in the movies, as well as a special exhibit from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Visitors will also be encouraged to try on the latest, as well as vintage Harley-Davidson MotorClothes.

SIT BACK AND GET READY FOR AN ADRENALINE RUSH

To get your motor running, the Open Road Tour will also feature motorcycle demo rides at all Open Road Tour locations. Visitors who are 18 years of age or older, and have a valid motorcycle license, will be able to ride any 2003 Harley-Davidson or Buell motorcycle of their choice, including the hot Harley-Davidson VRSCA V-Rod. For non-riders and riders alike, Harley-Davidson has also put together an extensive line-up of motorcycle action. From the skill and artistry of motorcycle drill teams, to the raw nerve of stunt riders, Open Road Tour motorcycle action is sure to rev the adrenaline of any on-looker. Visitors can also get a taste of the look that makes-up Harley-Davidson by attending special fashion shows throughout the weekends.

SOMETHING FOR THE LITTLEST HARLEY FANS

No one is either too young or too old to be part of the Harley-Davidson family and experience, especially at the Open Road Tour. Working in conjunction with Toys “R” Us, Harley-Davidson has developed a special children’s pavilion to satisfy all of the younger members of the family. Kids will even have the chance to demo-ride some of the Fisher Price Harley-Davidson ride-on toys.

AND IT’S ALL FOR A GOOD CAUSE

The Harley-Davidson Open Road Tour and other 100th Anniversary events will raise funds to help find a cure for muscular dystrophy and aid research and program services for children and adults with neuromuscular diseases. Since 1980, the Harley-Davidson family of customers, dealers and employees has raised nearly $40 million for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

“The Open Road Tour festival is going to give people around the world a chance to get a feel for what we mean by the Harley-Davidson experience,” said Bischmann. “During the Open Road Tour and other 100th Anniversary events, we hope to raise $5 million for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.”
