THE WEALTH CODE OF THE WEST–“You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, will prove the end of any nation.

katelynn run

THE KATELYNN STINNETT FOUNDATION RUN–Katelynn Stinnett died December 3rd 2008 from the injuries she received from a brutal beating and rape that occurred in Lexington KY. This precious child was only 2 years old. She along with her brother, lived with her father in an apartment that he shared with his roommate Brian Crabtree. Crabtree is allegedly the person that did these horrible things to Katelynn. ?Alleged? because he has not yet been tried in a court of law.

Crickett Lanham along with several other members and officers of the Steel Horse Cowgirls attended her funeral and also did Honor Guard for her. Her services were held at The River Of Life Church in Lexington KY. They never left Katy. They arrived Saturday before the viewing and did not leave until they went to the cemetery the following day. They carried her tiny casket at the cemetery…it was a hard thing to do.

They were just going to do a run in Lexington and somehow that just didn’t seem to be enough for them. Certainly not enough for Katelynn. So they decided to coordinate a national ride for child abuse awareness in Katelynn’s memory.

Recognition goes out from Crickett to the BikerOrNot website and some of the wonderful friends and volunteers that are members of that website who have answered. She has spoken on the phone, messaged, and e-mailed people from coast to coast. People whom she has never met but have the biggest hearts in the world. They are volunteering their time and skills to help put this run together. These people are top shelf.

The run will be held June 13th 2009 with a rain date of June 14th 2009. Kickstands up at 1PM sharp on the east coast. ALL monies are going to a child abuse prevention and or awareness charity. These charities are being chosen by the individual ride coordinators. This way every community that has a ride will benefit. ALL charities are being thoroughly checked by Crickett and the other ladies from the Steel Horse Cowgirls. Some coordinators have found programs that take in kids that are being abused at home, some are giving their monies to programs that go into schools and make kids aware that being hit is not supposed to happen and lets them know they have options available to them. Anything like this is the kind of thing we are trying to get the coordinators to donate to.

There is a national patch that has been designed for this ride. Crickett does not yet have a cost for the patch because she is still getting bids from various companies. If you or someone you know has any contacts in this particular area please let her know (steelhorsecowgirlcrickett@gmail.com). She would really like to find someone that could do this at cost. No one is making any money off the patches. They are going to made available at whatever it costs to have them made.

The individual coordinators are responsible for mapping out their route, determining the mileage, sponsorship if they so choose, media coverage if they so choose, and what kind of run they want to have. It does not matter if it is a poker run, scenic run etc.. The only thing that matters is that we all get out there and ride and bring child abuse awareness to the forefront.

Participation in this run is voluntary and the Steel Horse Cowgirls, sponsors and individual coordinators cannot be held responsible for any damages, liability, and/or, God forbid, accidents that may occur. EVERY coordinator needs to have a waiver for their riders to sign. Crickett will try to get you one if she can. If not please contact an attorney. If you have any questions feel free to contact Crickett at steelhorsecowgirlcrickett@gmail.com or luvhrlysnjager2@yahoo.com and Crickett will respond as quickly as possible..

Crickett would like to thank everyone for their participation and hard work in getting this together, and hopes everyone has a safe, fun ride. Crickett has generously provided a blank flyer for each individual run to use. Please e-mail her at steelhorsecowgirlcrickett@gmail.com for a copy.

PORNO

PORNO INDUSTRY NEEDS BAILOUT–WASHINGTON (CNN) ? Another major American industry is asking for assistance as the global financial crisis continues: Hustler publisher Larry Flynt and Girls Gone Wild CEO Joe Francis said Wednesday they will request that Congress allocate $5 billion for a bailout of the adult entertainment industry.

?The take here is that everyone and their mother want to be bailed out from the banks to the big three,? said Owen Moogan, spokesman for Larry Flynt. ?The porn industry has been hurt by the downturn like everyone else and they are going to ask for the $5 billion. Is it the most serious thing in the world? Is it going to make the lives of Americans better if it happens? It is not for them to determine.?Francis said in a statement that, ?the US government should actively support the adult industry’s survival and growth, just as it feels the need to support any other industry cherished by the American people.”?We should be delivering [the request] by the end of today to our congressmen and [Secretary of the Treasury Henry] Paulson asking for this $5 billion dollar bailout,? he told CNN Wednesday.

Flynt and Francis concede the industry itself is in no financial danger ? DVD sales have slipped over the past year, but Web traffic has continued to grow. But the industry leaders said the issue is a nation in need.

“People are too depressed to be sexually active,” Flynt said in the statement. “This is very unhealthy as a nation. Americans can do without cars and such but they cannot do without sex.”

“With all this economic misery and people losing all that money, sex is the farthest thing from their mind. It’s time for congress to rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America. The only way they can do this is by supporting the adult industry and doing it quickly.”

So far, there has been no congressional reaction to the request.

SPECTRO EXPANDING–I am pleased to announce that Intercontinental Lubricants is expanding its product selection to offer car enthusiasts a line of mineral and semi-synthetic lubricants fortified with over 2 times as much friction-fighting additives as most available oils today.

These Motor-Guard lubricants will be offered in mineral oil and semi-synthetic formulations under the Spectro brand name.

All will feature 1,800 ppm of ZDDP friction-fighting additives, well in excess of available lubricants.

Spectro Golden Motor-Guard semi-synthetic premium lubricant will be offered in viscosities of 5w30, 5w40, 10w30, 10w40, and 20w50.

Spectro Motor-Guard premium quality mineral oils will be offered in viscosities of 10w40, 20w50, and SAE30.

We are offering these products through our web site (www.goldenmotorguard.com) and select automotive shops are welcome to contact us.

We decided to expand this line because our friends in the muscle car and collector markets were continually complaining that they had to mix product to protect their flat tappet motors, and ?why don?t you make a ZDDP-fortified oil for us??

Golden Motor-Guard Semi-Synthetic motor oil combines the best properties of petroleum and Group IV PAO synthetic base stocks to provide levels of protection unattainable by any conventional oil. Golden MotorGuard?s exceptional anti-wear additive uptreats (1,800 ppm of zinc and phosphorus) to protect flat tappets, reduce wear, extend component life, and provide tremendous lubrication protection in extreme heat conditions.

Golden Motor-Guard provides excellent performance in high RPM racing engines and marine applications, as well.

Spectro Motor-Guard motor oil is a high-performance mineral motor oil that delivers exceptional levels of protection unattainable by most conventional oils.

Motor-Guard also provides car owners with uptreats of anti-wear additives (1,800 ppm of zinc and phosphorus) to protect flat tappets, reduce wear, extend component life, and provide tremendous lubrication protection. Special proprietary shear-stable polymers help maintain viscosity and resist ?break-down? providing reduced consumption and excellent protection from metal to metal contact.

Spectro Motor-Guard products exceed all known manufacturers? warranty requirements, and are recommended for use in all gasoline-powered equipment fleet applications. Meets A.P.I. SL Quality levels.

Ball
I’m running this once more, because Ken Conte wrote another version, and it could be an important opportunity for our industry.

V-TWIN EXPO TO HOST MOTORCYCLE ACTION GROUP MEETING–Wilmington, California, December 30, 2008: Keith R. Ball, President of Bikernet.com has met with several industry leaders to investigate a Motorcycle Action Committee under SEMA. The tough economic times have made it obvious to him and several others that the motorcycle aftermarket industry needs to band together. SEMA, The Specialty Equipment Market Association, which is an aftermarket advocacy group for the Hot Rod and automotive industry, represent over 7,500 members. “Timing is everything,” said Ball. “Years ago this was attempted, but the motorcycle industry lacked a unified voice. Fortunately we still have this opportunity to step up, band together and protect our industry through SEMA and the MIC.”

In this economic climate SEMA brings a large variety of services and benefits to the custom motorcycle aftermarket, the builders, dealers and the motorcycle rights groups such as the MRF (Motorcycle Riders Foundation). A short list of items SEMA offers to the automotive industry follows:

“This was especially exciting for me because I was a charter member of the ARMO Council that represents the automotive restoration market,” said Seth Doulton, President of Horsepower Productions. “I served on and headed up the licensing and OE relations committee, and I can tell you first hand that it was the best thing in my 35 years in the market place to ever come down the road. The restoration industry has benefited three fold by the networking that is strengthened by SEMA’s leadership and power. The motorcycle industry has needed this for many years. We need to build a strong team so that SEMA knows we are for real.”

An initial meeting was held a few months back to gauge interest and with the overwhelming positive response they have scheduled a meeting during the Cincy V-Twin Expo show to discuss this effort with the Industry, SEMA and MIC members, Sunday, February 8, 2009 at 9:00 a.m ROOM 251. This is a not-to-be- missed meeting during the biggest aftermarket trade show for the custom motorcycle industry.

“This could be the chance of a lifetime for our industry,” said Ball. “Especially in this current economic climate, but it’s up to us to get involved.” This committee will be open to any members of our industry on the American or Metric side, manufacturers, clubs, shops, dealers, builders or individuals. A major goal of this committee will be to support motorcycle rights groups around the world including the MRF with 60 state charters and 250,000 members. “Our primary goal is to keep the custom industry free and vibrant in the coming years,” Ball said.

Its alwaysbest not to do too much of research or stick to a plan. Too much ofthat automatically renders the mind to follow a particular path and inthe process overlooking few other interesting alternatives whichlocals might know of.

This option also increases your interaction with locals and the viewergets the information first hand, otherwise the same has to be put innarration ( which can kill the space apt for music/background score)

WHEELS THROUGH TIME TO PARTICIPATE IN PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION DAY PARADE–On January 20, 2009, the Wheels Through Time American Transportation Museum in Maggie Valley, NC will be making history once again — this time, participating in the 2009 Presidential Inauguration Day Parade. During the historic event, the museum will bring a small fleet of WWI era motorcycles to Washington to participate in a procession celebrating the 90th Anniversary of the transcontinental Army motor convoy on the Lincoln Highway in 1919.

Completed in 1915, the Lincoln Highway was America’s first transcontinental highway, stretching from New York City to San Francisco, CA. Passing through 14 states, 128 counties, and over 500 cities, towns, and villages, the highway was America’s first major monument to President Abraham Lincoln, predating the Lincoln Memorial by over 9 years. The highway, which quickly became known as “The Main Street Across America”, was developed to improve interstate travel and to make easier the ability for citizens to travel from the Eastern United States to the Western states.

In late November 2008, Wheels Through Time Museum curator, Dale Walksler, was contacted by Craig Harmon, founder and director of the Lincoln Highway National Museum in Galion, Ohio about participating in the momentous event in January. As part of the parade, Walksler, Harmon, and a host of other participants will ride vintage motorcycles and automobiles of the era in a procession celebrating the 90th anniversary of the United States Army’s first transcontinental motor convoy across the United States.

Completed in 1919, the motor convoy began in Washington, DC and ran to San Francisco in an effort to determine how well troops could be moved from coast to coast. Over eighty vehicles made the 62-day trip, and through the rugged journey from east to west, U.S. Army observer Dwight D. Eisenhower, then a lieutenant colonel in the Army, began to develop his plan for an interstate highway system he would later implement during his presidency.

gascap

BIKERNET TECH INVESTIGATION OF THE WEEK– I have a custom road star cruiser with an independent fab tank andHot Match gas cap. My question is….the cap let fuel seep through if thetank is full and recently caused some minor damage to my paint. I was able tobuff that out but wanted to ask if this venting is normal and if there is someway to prevent or avoid gas seepage through the cap.

I have ensured the capis securely tightened, but think it seeps from the venting mechanism or something. Please let me know.

I took a few photos of the cap today and am not sure where the vent is supposed to be. Here are a few pics. They aren’t the clearest, but they should give you an idea of my cap.

HEALTH CARE DEBATE FROM SEMA–Lawmakers are seeking to enact legislation into law in 2009 that would fundamentally reform how Americans access the nation’s health care system. A number of Congressional Committees are now tackling the tough job of writing the legislation this summer, with a goal of completing action in both the House and Senate this fall. SEMA is taking this opportunity to identify some of the major issues being debated.

Overview

:Two national problems have stoked the political pressure for reform. First, about 46 million Americans have no health insurance, either because their employer does not offer coverage, they are unemployed and cannot afford an individual plan, or they simply choose to remain uninsured. An individual who is uninsured may actually impose a higher cost on the health care system than someone who has coverage since the uninsured usually forego preventive medicine and may ultimately end up in the emergency room where treatment costs are at a premium.

Second, health care premiums for small firms have skyrocketed about 113% over the past 10 years. An estimated 27 million small-business owners, employees and dependents are now uninsured. Additionally, small businesses pay an average of 18% more in health insurance premiums for the same benefits provided to large businesses.

SEMA Survey

Earlier this year, a SEMA member survey provided a clear message that the nation’s health care system is broken. While recognizing the need for reform, the survey results also cautioned that any solutions must be affordable and not impose costly employer mandates. (The results were reported in SEMA News May 2009.)

Can reforms be enacted?

Unlike in years past, the major players in the health care debate are willing to talk: politicians, health care providers, insurance companies, drug companies, big and small businesses and individuals. Reasons vary, but include the realization that the current system is unsustainable, the number of uninsured is increasing and there are profits to be made by providing care to the uninsured. In fact, the players are at the table to protect their vested individual interests.

Insurance companies benefit if 46 million uninsured become customers. Insurance companies also want to establish an even playing field. If the government offers a competing insurance plan under “play or pay” for example, that program could siphon off some of the better customers and leave some insurance companies with higher-risk participants and increased premium rates.

How will health care reform contain rising costs?

Cost containment focuses on four main areas: providers, insurance companies, preventive medicine and market reforms.

Health Care Providers: Hospitals, doctors and other health care providers will be pushed to work within a standardized electronic paperwork system. “Health IT” is the catch phrase for reducing the costs and inefficiencies of the current paper-based system. An electronic system, however, will need to have security and privacy safeguards and will need to be phased-in to accommodate computer and software costs.

There will also be efforts to better manage chronic disease, which accounts for 75% of overall health care spending. Reducing the incidence of misdiagnosis, unnecessary tests and treatment through more rigorous medical oversight and quality control can also take costs out of the system.

Health Insurance Companies: Private health care insurance companies are currently losing customers due to spiraling premiums. Lawmakers want to bring 46 million Americans into the system by leveling the playing field. Mechanisms may include preventing insurers from denying coverage to individuals or charging excessive premiums based on pre-existing conditions, health status, genetic information or similar criteria.

Lawmakers want to limit excessive variations in premium prices for the same policy, and have premiums that are based on community ratings and actuarial tables. Limits could also be placed on a company’s administrative and marketing costs and profits when compared to the percentage of funds spent on medical care.

Disease Prevention: It goes without saying that large amounts of money can be saved if people embrace healthier lifestyles, so an emphasis will be placed on promoting preventive medicine. Fewer resources may be needed if there is access to regular health checkups rather than emergency room visits. This approach will include programs to promote smoking secession, proper diet, exercise and to provide low-cost routine health screening, including conducting such programs in the workplace.

Market Reforms: Correcting defects and biases in the marketplace for health insurance is another key aspect of reform.

For years, SEMA and other groups have sought passage of legislation to create Small Business Health Plans enabling small businesses to band together, form a larger risk pool and purchase insurance across state lines. Under the current system, large companies and trade unions have access to national plans, but most small businesses are forced to buy from insurance providers in their home state, turning them into captive customers getting less coverage for higher prices.

Forming national or regional health care insurance “exchanges” is gaining acceptance as a means to make it easier for customers to understand the types of coverage that are available, compare prices and to build larger, more stable risk pools. Allowing policies to be portable as Americans move or change jobs is also crucial.

Who pays for reform?

Employer “Pay or Play”: The nation’s current employer-based system will be retained. Americans either will have access to health insurance through the employer or be required to purchase their own policy. Both options have ramifications for the employer. Lawmakers will likely pursue a “pay or play” approach whereby companies offer a qualifying amount of health insurance (paying all or a portion of the worker’s premiums) or pay a payroll tax for a federal health insurance fund, similar to Medicare.

The tax could be staggered based on a company’s size and revenue, and small employers could be exempted. SEMA’s health care survey provides guidance on this topic. SEMA members support the current voluntary approach to providing coverage but overwhelmingly oppose mandates such as “pay or play.” They also support tax credits and other mechanisms that would help enable employers to provide coverage.

Taxing Individuals: Under current law, workers are not taxed on the value of health insurance provided by the employer. Lawmakers may subject all or some of that money to income tax as a means to fund the federal health program. It would also have the benefit for making individuals more aware of the insurance costs borne by the employer and providing an incentive to become more engaged in health care decisions. Lawmakers are also looking at increasing taxes on popular products often associated with national health problems.

Frequent targets are excise taxes for distilled spirits, beer and some types of wine, and for sugar-sweetened beverages such as soft drinks. Another proposal is to add a disability-insurance tax on all workers’ paychecks. Similar to long-term care insurance, the program would address critical flaws in the current system by creating a large risk pool and guaranteeing disability coverage for all Americans.

Individual Mandate: Lawmakers will likely require individuals to buy a qualifying level of health insurance in the same fashion that motorists must have auto insurance. Compliance may be phased-in over time. Enforcement would likely occur at points of contact between individuals and the government (e.g. taxes, applications for licenses, etc.) based on proof of enrollment in a personal plan, an employer-based plan or through the proposed federally-run plan.

In theory, an individual mandate should reduce insurance premiums by bringing into the system more young, healthy people who currently are not covered by insurance. An individual mandate would likely require subsidies for lower-income individuals.

Public Insurance: Creation of a federal health insurance plan that would compete for subscribers with private health insurance plans has been one of the most controversial aspects of the health care reform debate. Many fear that it would potentially undermine the extensive system of private insurance now in place and head America toward a single-payer system—the single payer being the federal government.

More public funds may be used to pay for services provided in private hospitals and doctors’ offices as a result of reform. Very few reformers in Congress are seeking full “socialized medicine” or a government take-over of hospitals and medical practices, however.

Reform Challenges: Assuming reforms are enacted into law, success will require hard work. Massachusetts, for example, embarked on the same course in 2006 and achieved initial success. Reducing barriers to care and improving affordability have recently proven problematic however, as one in five adults have reported difficulties in finding a doctor that will take a new patient or who will accept the provider reimbursement rate for payment.

People who can’t find a participating physician—even when they now have the ability to pay—end up back in the local emergency room. The nation will face a similar challenge as it attempts to incorporate 46 million Americans into the current system without creating supply-and-demand rationing, and as it converts to a preventive care system.

Enacting legislation to help SEMA member businesses gain access to affordable coverage has been a top priority for the association for a number of years. Toward that goal, SEMA has worked on Capitol Hill through the ‘Small Business Coalition for Affordable Healthcare’ and with the National Federation of Independent Businesses. SEMA will vigorously support those measures in Congress aimed at containing the overall cost of health care to SEMA members.

MILWAUKEE (January 6, 2010) ? It?s an unwritten rule in motorcycling culture to stop for a distressed rider. fake ebay page

OFFICIAL CRAZYHORSE CONSUMER WARNING–I want to post this on Bikernet as to warn anyone using ebay. There are fake ebay pages that pop up on the actual ebay website that will try to steal your personal and financial information.

I was trying to log into my ebay account, and a page came up that asked me for my date of birth, social security number, mother’s maiden name, credit card info, even my ATM PIN number. And it would not allow me to get into my account until I entered the info. The url address address looked real enough. Needless to say I did not enter the info. And there was no way I could get into my account. The page was accessed on the real ebay site.

The saddest thing about it, is that Ebay is doing nothing to stop it. In fact, when I called Ebay to tell them about this, they did not even want to know. They simply told me, that they did not know if ebay even asked for this kind of information. They simply told me to enter the info. When I asked to speak to someone else, they said that was not possible and that there was nothing they could do. HUH?

So I emailed them. No reply.

The next day was able to get into my account without that page coming up. And I went about my work and forgot about it.

Now today the page pops up again. I wonder how many people are getting their important information ripped off in this way? And Ebay does nor want even hear about it, let alone stop it from happening. So I am posting it here. Hell, the page starts out by saying,

“We have noticed an increasing fraudulent activity recently. In order to provide your security and protect you from fraudsters we have introduced a new system of identification that will help us to avoid any kind of fraud or unauthorised access.

Please enter as more information as possible to provide your complete identification and to activate all the features of the new system.”

Notice how unauthorized is spelled wrong. Plus, “enter as MORE information” ? Sounds very Nigerian Scammy to me. Please pass this onto others. Like I said, ebay does not even want to know about it.

That's right. As we bang through life bobbing and weaving between taxes, exes, bosses and bad laws, there's a crew out there who spend every waking moment fighting for our freedoms.

It's amazing. In some dark corners of our world, it's a secret society the average rider isn't aware of. When, in a whiskey-induced depression you thought all was lost, FORR-MO (Freedom of the Road Riders of Missouri) fought for 20 years to allow motorcyclist to ride free of helmet laws. A repeal bill is now on the governor's desk. In California, the most restrictive state in the nation, a woman is trying to pass a motorcycle smog-testing bill. It is being fought ardently by ABATE of California members and the California Motorcycle Dealers Association. All over the state, active riders are writing their California legislators. Motorcycles represent less than 1 percent of all emissions, and testing them is ridiculous.

In Montana, a brother rider, a SEMA member (hot rod aftermarket association), Senator Brueggaman, introduced a bill to allow classic custom motorcycles to be registered without EPA dictates. The U.S. Congress in Washington DC recently declared May as “Motorcycle Safety & Awareness month,” one of the many efforts led by the National Coalition of Motorcyclists, a national umbrella group of state motorcycle rights organizations founded by Richard Lester.

“NCOM provides a statewide organization information network, along with a legal and legislative support system, to assist them in their battle for bikers' right back home,” explained NCOM board member Bill Bish. “Through our combined efforts, biker activists have succeeded in mobilizing one of the most effective grass roots movements in the world, having repealed helmet laws on the federal level and in most states (only 20 states now require helmet use for all riders), overturning such archaic anti-motorcycle laws as handlebar height limits, equipment restrictions and lighting issues, as well as addressing parking problems, licensing, training, emissions…you name it.”

There's a crazy bastard in Texas, Sputnik, who has fought motorcycle restrictions with the Texas Motorcycle Rights Association for over 20 years in the Lone Star State, which passed a helmet repeal a decade ago. The Motorcycle Riders Foundation is another national organization fighting with over 200,000 state organization members to keep us free, dealing with right to repair bills, insurance discrimination, helmet laws, and reflective vest laws requirements, such as those being passed in the Philippines.

Clevelandcolor

“We have attended hearings on road rage, distracted drivers, high speed chases, poker runs, many alternative vehicles, traffic violations causing a death, two on helmets, noise, many cell phone bills and on and on,” said Kirk Willard, president of the MRF, of issues they are facing in only Maine, where he works with the United Bikers of Maine (UBM). He faces similar issues in Wisconsin, where he partners with ABATE of Wisconsin.

There's more. This writer, Keith “Bandit” Ball, the owner of Bikernet.com, is working with SEMA, the largest aftermarket automotive association in the country, to create a motorcycle council. I would like to create a link between the motorcycle aftermarket industry, motorcycle rights organizations and the hot rod industry. We need all the help we can get. Here's another quote from Kirk Willard regarding impending regulatory issues:

“We are living in a time when all of America is losing rights so fast that it sounds like a kid dragging a stick along a picket fence, clicking off our freedoms. We have dug in so deep that as soon as it warms up and the pipes won't freeze, we might think about running water into the foxhole and creating an Olympic pool. That youngster on the bicycle with the ticking stick will, undoubtedly be forced to wear a goofy looking bicycle helmet, don his teeth protector, elbow pads, knee guards and probably ear protection from the rushing wind. The NHSTA will discover defective equipment on the bicycle and fine the manufacturer. The owner of the tree the stick fell from will be charged with not having a barrier around the tree and allowing a minor to play with a lethal weapon. OSHA will immediately cite him for not posting warning stickers on how to use a stick and failure to provide schooling on the proper handling of said instrument. Plus he will be fined for the size of the watering moat around the tree and the drops of oil from his motorcycle on the driveway.”

Life is nuts, but we have a chance to make a difference every day, to stand up and inject freedom back into our rampant regulatory society. It's easy: Turn on your computer and go to the MRF or NCOM web sites, or the SEMA web site, if you're into hot rods or muscle cars. They will help you find your local group–so join. You will immediately be connected to folks with tremendous hearts, knowledge, political experience and an unrelenting desire for freedom.

Ride Forever,

–Bandit

EASYRIDERS BIKE SHOW UPDATE, THE PARTY BEGINS WITH FREE REGISTRATIONS FOR SHOW BIKES– Here’s some great news. Bike registrations are up 125% over last year for Pomona and Sacramento Easyriders Bike Shows. I think our free registration program is a big hit.

Check the web site for more information on registering your bike at any of the 6 Bike Shows.

We have a couple of new classes this year:

Paul Yaffe, Arlen Ness, Cycle Visions, Klock werks, Custom Chrome and Jim Nasi are sponsoring a Bagger Nation Class. Two Baggers from each regional show will be invited to Columbus to compete for $3000 in prizes donated by the sponsors. This project was headed up by Paul Yaffe.

Another new class this year is the Limpnickie class. This has been spearheaded by Cycle Source Magazine. Chris told me yesterday that he would send you some information on what he has in store for us.

Please let everybody know that bike entry for the show is free this year. All we ask is from the competitors is the purchase a wristband for the weekend.

Jay Allen is bringing eight hand picked bikes and a couple of cars from his personal collection to all of the Bike Shows this year. The debut of the Broken Spokes Rolling Museum is in Pomona Jan 10-11. Jay will be on hand to promote all of the exciting projects Broken Spoke has in store for 2009. Shasta ? 90 minutes, Lava Beds National Park ? 20 minutes), Sunday morning Christian Motorcycle Association church services & traditional bike blessing followed by the ?Buncha-Thunder? military tribute parade (dedicated to the memory of former Tulelake Mayor, Mike Bunch) down Main St. in Tulelake. We have listened to input and will be reducing vendor and patron prices and also featuring ?Family Day? on Sunday, September 6th.

South Bay Biker Productions will be premiering for the first time its 40-minute feature film about the inaugural Shasta Salute to America Motorcycle on Friday evening January 23rd at 8:00pm at Pockets Sports Bar, 516 S Sepulveda Blvd, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266. February
We will deliver teaser shot of all 12 girls, maybe tomorrow.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, GODDAMNIT, ECONOMY OR NOT–We’ll survive to party and ride another summer. I just had lunch with Eric and Bob Bennett from Bennett’s Performance. Together we will bring you some JIMS tools techs, and we’re working on a Zippers/D&D 2009 Touring bike performance upgrade. Ultimately we will install another Pegasus EFI system and show you how it’s done and tuned.

I’m also working toward publishing two books next year. My first Chance Hogan fiction and another 1%er book with Motorbooks Int. Plus we’re slowly working toward a film effort. It could be mighty important to our industry and this stinkin’ country. It’s all about freedom and motorcycling.

So 2009 is going to be a damn exciting year from a lot of perspectives. Our country will face changes. Maybe we can make the government see freedom in a resurgent light. And Bikernet will bring you more entertainment that ever. You’ll be there through each stage of publishing these books, building bikes or making a movie. Let’s party, 2009 is destined to be a helluva year.

CDMSC SELECTS HARLEY-DAVIDSON AS WINNER OF 2008 QUALITY LEADERSHIP AWARD–The Certification of Disability Management Specialists Commission (CDMSC) is proud to announce the selection of Harley-Davidson Motor Company as the winner of its 2008 Quality Leadership Award, recognizing excellence in disability management, intervention, and wellness programs.

The CDMSC presented the award at the National Business Group on Health’s (NBGH) 22nd National Conference on Health, Productivity, and Human Capital, held in San Diego, Calif. The NBGH is a leading voice in the employer market, and its conference draws a large audience from across the country.

Each year, the CDMSC ? the only independent, nationally accredited organization that certifies disability management specialists ? honors a company, organization, or individual for demonstrating leadership in disability management.

“Harley-Davidson has a strong commitment to employee education, which is the foundation of its health, safety, wellness, and disability management programs, from early intervention to return-to-work,” stated David Rosenthal, Ph.D., chairman of the CDMSC.

With more than 8,000 employees globally, Harley-Davidson Motor Company is a leader in worksite health management. Performance metrics for Harley-Davidson’s integrated disability management program, which began in 2000, show noticeable positive results.

“We are honored to receive this award recognizing our integrated disability management program and the positive results it has shown,” said Sue Gartner, manager of corporate health and wellness for Harley-Davidson Motor Co. “The success of this initiative is due in large part to the close collaboration between our Occupational Health Departments and the team of safety, PT/OT, fitness providers and case managers. We’re always working to improve the health and wellness of our employees. The integrated approach is well-received by employees and we anticipate it will continue to evolve and benefit the organization and those we serve.”

At most facilities the program also incorporates short-term disability and general health, along with workers’ compensation components. Harley-Davidson is taking a more active approach to onsite prevention and wellness programs as well.

Harley-Davidson also is proactive with workers as they age, emphasizing programs to reduce the risk of injury and serious illness. For example, occupational health nurses and disability management specialists work together, and early intervention services are offered at company facilities for immediate access and continuous awareness.

Highlighting Harley-Davidson’s collaboration within its therapeutic provider network, physical therapists, occupational therapists, fitness trainers and trained ergonomists are involved with workstation assessments and individualized and group exercise and stretching programs. Transitional duty, onsite therapy, and a graduated RTW program are also available to assist employees in returning to safe, timely employment.

BIKERNET CHRISTMAS NEWS REVIEW– Nice theme. All Santa-y and such. Glad not too much time was spent on elves. Elves, trolls and garden gnomes really get my ass.

Talking about the SEMA hookup? Opportunity knocks, but you’ve got to answer the door. They’re so deep into marketing it’s almost laughable.

I participated in one of their seminars at PRI a couple weeks ago over in Orlando – it was great, and just one of several during the show.

Do you get the SEMA weekly newsletter? Good stuff.Bottom line, from my end – if SEMA can’t provide guidance and leadership, launch the lifeboats.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON BEATS TRACK RECORD–2008 motorcycle sales hit record numbers in just 11 months.

Harley-Davidson Australia is celebrating another year of outstanding sales with the news today that 2008 sales results are the best on record ever in Australia.

In just 11 months of 2008 the iconic brand has sold 7,150 motorcycles, surpassing all previous yearly results with December, traditionally one of the best retail trading months of the year, still to be recorded.

The exceptional year-on-year sales increase highlights Harley-Davidson Australia as one of few companies prospering in a challenging economic environment.

A key strategy underpinning the growth is the diversity of appeal in the Harley-Davidson suite of motorcycles. In 2008 the Softail Fat Boy (FLSTF) remains the highest selling model with 874 motorcycles sold to date, continuing the 2007 trend. Strong sales performance is also recorded by the Night Rod Special (VRSCDX), part of the new ?Dark Custom? range.

In 2007 Harley-Davidson introduced a new range of motorcycles collectively referred to as ?Dark Custom?. The range is a distinct break from the classic chrome styling for which H-D is renowned. Dark Custom is instead defined by black monochromatic finishes and modern urban street styling.

Harley-Davidson Australia Managing Director, Peter Nochar, said ?although our classic Softails continue to sell extremely well the introduction of ?Dark Custom? has boosted our outstanding sales result. In addition, our Sportster range is on the rise thanks to fantastic new models and the sheer affordability. When you can buy the genuine article from as little as $10,995 + on-road costs why settle for anything less.?

The Dark Custom range includes the Nightster, Cross Bones, Night Rod Special, Night Train, Street Bob & Fat Bob.

2009 MOTORCYCLE CONCOURSE EVENT POSTPONED– For immediate release. San Francisco ? 19 December 2008 ? The annual Legend of the Motorcycle Concours d?Elegance, which takes place the first weekend each May, will be postponed in 2009. Instead, the fourth annual event, highlighting Indian and NSU as the featured marques, is scheduled to resume in 2010.

The decision is due to the effect the world economy has had on many sponsors, and while deciding not to produce the show next year was very difficult, it was the most prudent. ?We?d never do anything to compromise the quality of the Concours,? says co-founder Jared Zaugg. ?We?d rather suspend the event than see it done halfway and I?m sure those that have participated would agree. This has been a true labor of love and something we strongly believe in, so we look forward to reinstating it after this hiatus.?

The good news is that the postponement is temporary and plans are already underway for May 2010. From legendary racers and builders, to celebrities and industry executives, to owners and enthusiasts, Legend of the Motorcycle brings together a unique audience from around the globe representing all the wonderfully diverse facets of motorcycling. The weekend celebration is centered around a display of 200 of some of history?s most important motorcycles judged by an international panel of experts, and combines never-before-seen exhibits, contemporary product unveilings, exclusive presentations, a collector?s auction and charity auction, receptions, and rides, for an event unlike anything else in the motorcycle world. (A list of select press quotes about Legend of the Motorcycle is following below.)

Information and updates will be posted to the website, LegendoftheMotorcycle.com, throughout the year.

MOTORCYCLE OWNERS REPORT HIGH LEVELS OF SATISFACTIONDespite higher prices and fewer sales, motorcycle owners are expressing record-high levels of product satisfaction.

Overall satisfaction with the motorcycle ownership experience has increased for a sixth consecutive year, according to a recently released ?Motorcycle Competitive Information Study? compiled by market analyst J.D. Power and Associates. Now in its 11th year, the study measures owner satisfaction with new motorcycles by examining five major components of the overall ownership experience: product; quality; cost of ownership; sales; and service.

While all five components driving satisfaction improve in 2008, the most=2 0notable increases occur in the areas of cost of ownership and product quality. Overall, satisfaction with cost of ownership has increased steadily over time, with 18% of owners reporting the cost of owning a motorcycle is ?outstanding? compared to only 10% of customers in 2005. Furthermore, 30% of motorcycle owners in 2008 indicate that the value they received for the price paid is ?outstanding,? compared with 21% in 2005.

The study also found that product quality has improved in 2008, primarily due to a decrease in owner-reported problems. In addition, the number of owners who report having a problem-free experience with their motorcycle averaged 42% in 2008, an improvement of 3% compared with 2007. Among motorcycle owners who visit a dealer for repair work, 79% said that the work was performed right the first time–a 4% improvement over last year.

?Despite the fact that owners report paying 14% more for their motorcycles this year, they are also more satisfied with the value received for the money spent,? said Tim Fox, research manager of the powersports practice at J.D. Power and Associates.

The study was based on survey responses from 7,334 owners who purchased new motorcycles between September 2007 and May 2008.

If there’s a problem, it’s that buyers are getting older because the industry is not getting enough younger consumers into riding. J.D. Power says that since 2001, the average=2 0age of motorcycle owners has increased from 40 to 47 years. “This indicates that the current population of motorcycle buyers is aging, and a large proportion of these owners are likely to soon exit the market,” says Fox. The firm says first-time buyers constitute about 22% of all new-motorcycle purchases, and that number has not changed since 2001. “It is critical for manufacturers to focus on attracting first-time and younger buyers–primarily those in the Gen X and Y demographics–in order to ensure continued growth in this market.”

In a separate survey of 3,022 buyers of new 2007 model year motorcycles, J.D. Power analysts identified the top reasons why motorcycle manufacturers miss out on sales. The No. 1 reason motorcy cle buyers select one brand over another, according to the ?2008 Motorcycle Escaped Shopper Study,? is price. The cost of the rejected model is simply too high. An inability to test-ride a bike, a perception that maintenance costs will be high, an uncomfortable riding position and limited availability rounded out the study’s top five reasons for why a specific brand is rejected.

NEW CAR TECHNOLOGIES MAKE ROADS SAFER FOR MOTORCYCLISTSEach year automotive manufacturers unveil their latest vehicles, often touting new technologies designed to make roadways less dangerous. Not only do drivers and their fellow motorists benefit from these advances in safety technology but motorcycle and scooter riders reap rewards as well.

?Driver awareness and riding training are the most crucial components of motorcycle and scooter safety,? said Bill Windsor, associate vice president of safety for Nationwide Insurance. ?However, the latest automotive technologies are also a plus for riders because many make motorists more aware of their presence and location.?

In particular, four advances in automotive technologies help make the roads safer for all riders:

1. Blind Spot Warning Systems that identify vehicles in blind spots. A warning light, sound, or vibration is activated if a lane change is attempted when a vehicle is present in a driver?s blind spot. The system is valuable to riders, who are often ?hidden? in the blind spots of other vehicles, particularly large SUVs or trucks.

2. Lane Departure Warning Systems that activate if a vehicle has inadvertently drifted out of its lane. As with blind spot warning systems, a light, sound, or vibration is employed to warn drivers and prevent them from wandering over the lane line. The lane departure warning system protects riders from inattentive drivers, particularly those who drift lanes while talking on cell phones.

3. Forward Collision Warning Systems that monitor the distance between vehicles. If a driver is too closely following another vehicle, the system activates and, with a light or sound, warns the driver of a potential collision. The forward collision warning system helps prevent rear-end collisions, protecting riders from motorists who have turned their attention from the road to a distraction, like texting.

4. Adaptive Headlights / Night-Vision Assist. A variety of night-vision technologies are available, including infrared headlamps and thermal-imaging cameras to provide drivers with greater recognition of objects, such as animals, people – even motorcycles and scooters – that are obscured by darkness. Adaptive headlights bend the light around corners, compensate for ambient light, and may also be speed sensitive. Each of these developments makes it easier for drivers to spot riders in the dark.

U.S. TRADE OFFICIALS CONSIDER HUGE TARIFFS ON EUROPEAN MOTORCYCLESThe price of European motorcycles would double in America if federal trade authorities move forward with a 100% tariff in retaliation for the European Union?s refusal to lift an ongoing ban on imported American beef. Since EU officials won?t lift the 20-year old ban on U.S. beef from cattle treated with growth hormones, despite a World Trade Organization order to end it, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative recommended to the President that a 100% import duty be imposed on over 100 European goods, including bikes and scooters under 500cc; affecting such popular brands as Aprilia, Beta, BMW, Fantic, Gas Gas, Husaberg, Husqvarna, KTM, Montesa, Piaggio, Scorpa, Sherco, TM and Vespa.

Piaggio Group Americas, Inc. President and CEO Paolo Timoniwhose, whose company will be especially hard-hit as it imports and distributes Vespa and Piaggio scooters, as well as Aprilia and Moto-Guzzi motorcycles under the 500cc displacement cutoff, made the following statement about the proposed changes to the EU-Beef Hormone dispute sanctions: “We urge USTR not to punish the U.S. employees of a healthy and growing personal transportation company, along with the 400+ U.S. dealers and employees that retail our scooters and small displacement motorcycles, when the only focus of this trade dispute is an agricultural product. We also urge USTR not to punish the American consumer who in rapidly increasing numbers is choosing to add these clean-running, fuel-efficient machines to their transportation fleets in order to reduce U.S. fuel consumption, foreign oil dependence and today’s massive congestion and environmental issues. Finally, we urge USTR not to impose measures that would quickly force Piaggio Group Americas and a significant number of its dealers out of business.?

The Bush Administration wants to impose $116.8 million in import duties to equal the amount of money it claims the U.S beef industry loses each year because of the ban.

NEW YORK LEGISLATOR CRITICIZES MOTORCYCLE CHECKPOINTSSuffolk County Legislator Jack Eddington said that Suffolk should turn down a $25,500 motorcycle safety grant unless it can find ways to use it at something other than checkpoints.

The Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee grant is for Suffolk police to check if motorcyclists are complying with state law. “I would be upset if they told me they’re going to pull over all pickup trucks,” said Eddington (I-Medford), who rides a Honda Shadow motorcycle. “This sounds like harassment to me.”

But Suffolk Police Commissioner Richard Dormer said it’s just one of many state grants the department receives for checkpoints.

Jim Barr, president of Long Island ABATE, said the checkpoints are a hassle for cyclists. “There’s no probable cause to suggest all motorcycles must pull over,” he said.

ABATE of New York has expressed its opposition to the state?s burgeoning tactic of conducting motorcycle-only ?safety checks?, and has pledged support of a class-action initiative by the National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM) against the NYS Police and the NYS Dept. of Motor Vehicles if such discriminatory road blocks continue.

LAWSUIT PROCEEDS AGAINST MYRTLE BEACH HELMET AND NOISE ORDINANCESAlthough a judge denied an injunction to stop Myrtle Beach, S.C. from enforcing its new municipal motorcycle helmet law and noise ordinance, a local couple’s lawsuit was allowed to move forward. In September, Aid to Injured Motorcyclists (AIM) Attorney Tom McGrath was the first to file a lawsuit to challenge the constitutionality of two of 15 new anti-biker ordinances passed by the city to curb motorcycle rallies.

The suit, filed on behalf of resident motorcyclists William and Carol O’Day, questions whether it’s within the city?s ?home rule? authority to supersede state law in both cases.

Horry County Circuit Court Judge Larry B. Hyman ruled against the injunction request, which would have prohibited the city from enforcing the new laws that McGrath contends are unconstitutional because the city doesn’t have the right to pass ordinances that contradict existing state law. South Carolina’s helmet law states that anyone 21 or older may choose whether to wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle, and they already have a muffler statute in state law.

McGrath said he requested the temporary stopgap when the city intended to begin enforcing all the ordinances by Dec. 21, but it has since delayed implementing several of the ordinances to give City Manager Tom Leath more time to set up the city’s administrative court system.

McGrath said he thinks that delay played into the judge’s decision. “The city hasn’t issued any tickets yet because it hasn’t set up the administrative court,” he said. “Since my clients haven’t been adversely affected yet, he had to weigh the equity issues.”

Other causes of action set forth in the lawsuit were allowed to go forward, in accordance with Judge Hyman?s ruling, though no other hearings have been scheduled yet in this case, nor in either of the two cases filed in federal court on behalf of business owners who have stakes in the success of the May motorcycle rallies.

CALIFORNIA HELMET LAWSUIT DISMISSEDA Superior Court judge has ruled on a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of California?s mandatory helmet law, and the case has been dismissed.

The lawsuit, filed November 9, 2006 (Case No. CV 155682), was heard on May 19-20, 2008 in the Santa Cruz Superior Court, and after hearing evidence presented by Wendy Lascher (representing the plaintiff parties) and the Attorney General?s Office (representing the California Highway Patrol), Judge Robert Atack made the following comments:

“It is clear to this court that the policy of the CHP is consistent with the statutory scheme. Although the Statutes under sections 27802 of the vehicle code and 27803 certainly could be clearer as it relates to these provisions, there does not seem to be any showing which would establish that the statutes themselves are unconstitutional for vagueness as applied under the circumstances and under the evidence that has been received during the course of this trial…I do not believe that the statutes found in the Vehicle Code should be declared unconstitutional for vagueness. They would be perhaps cleaned up as some of the other case law has indicated, but they are not vague in this Court’s opinion, and that the injunction directing the CHP prohibiting them from citing anyone for a violation of 27803(b) in particular seems to be unwarranted in this case. And that is the Court’s finding.”

According to ABATE of California, Inc. Executive Director Tim Tennimon, Sr., ?The case was dismissed. There is no further avenue of appeal on this lawsuit. It is finished.?

In 2006 ABATE of California established a Judicial fund for the purposes of raising funds to defray the legal expenses of Richard Quigley, et al, in this action, and donations in excess of $60K were received from individuals and other organizations throughout the country.

?ABATE of California wishes to thank all those individuals and organizations who so generously contributed to the Judicial Fund,? said Tennimon, adding that the attorney for the plaintiffs has been paid in full from the fund and ABATE of California is no longer accepting donations for this lawsuit.

?ABATE of California further wishes to state that it is in no way connected or associated with any other organization that may be collecting funds for a ?Judicial Fund? related to past or future helmet law litigation,? explained Tennimon, concluding that ?ABATE of California remains committed to working on a broad spectrum of issues of concern to all motorcyclists, including those relating to helmet laws, as well as safety issues of concern to all motorcyclists.?

WEIRD NEWS: RIDING MOTORCYCLES COULD CAUSE IMPOTENCESay it ain?t so! As if motorcyclists didn?t already have enough to worry about on the road, new medical studies claim that men who ride motorcycles are at increased risk of impotence and urinary problems, possibly because the vibration of the engine causes nerve damage.

Doctors in Japan, who published studies on the dangers in the International Journal Of Impotence Research, said seats on most motorcycles put undue pressure on the perineal region and restricted blood flow to the penis. It found that out of 234 motorcyclists who rode about three hours every weekend, 69% reported mild to severe erectile dysfunction. Of 178 motorcyclists with hard-padded seats, 70% had erectile dysfunction. Of 32 motorcyclists with soft-padded saddle, 63% had erectile dysfunction.

Approximately 76% of riders aged 40 to 49, and 93% of those aged 50 to 59, reported severe erectile dysfunction, compared with 37% and 42% respectively among those who did not ride motorcycles.

Doctors have also pointed out impotence affects most males during their lives and can be caused by emotional issues, high cholesterol, heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, smoking or alcohol. The researchers also said more studies are needed to determine the cause of erectile dysfunction in motorcyclists.

BIKERNET READER BUILDS HIS DREAM MACHINE–Hey Bandit, Love your web site. Been on there everyday since you started it up. Anyways the reason I am writing,it’s been a long time coming and kind of like a full circle story. Been riding since I was 10 years old and am now 48. I have been involved with motorcycles in one fashion or another growing up mainly on metric bike because I had to buy my own shit so they were cheap.

When I was a kid H-D were a peace of crap and anyone in their right mind wouldn’t have owned one. Things have changed, to say the least. After I finished going to MMI in Orlando, FL for Harley-Davidson I came back home and decided to build my own. I was lovin’ what Indian Larry was doing and thought I’d use his style for the build. I bought every book out there that featured Indian Larry, and did my research, always keeping my budget in mind. I am 6’3″ and I had to change some things around to make it fit right. Trust me it was a struggle to keep that look and fit a tall man, but I didn’t want to get too far off my plan.

I got started after acquiring a frame and a few things off ebay at a good price (new stuff just discounted). Swap meets and friends helped, and it all came together during the winter in Michigan of 2007. Didn’t get to put the first mile on it till about July 2008.

It’s been a great ride ever since and it went together great. I haven’t had any issues except the heat shield nuts keep coming off from vibration and funny thing is the bike doesn’t vibrate (well just a little but not bad at all).

I was wondering… It would mean a lot to me, and my family if you could feature it on your web site in Wrenches Bike Barn.

Twinclubcard
This card arrived recently from the brothers in Sweden.

THE SOUTHSIDE KUSTOMS CHRISTMAS LETTER OF THE YEAR–Well, it is that time of year where I sit down and write a letter to all of South Side Kustoms friends / family and supporters.

First, I just want to say Thank You to all of you who have spent your hard earned dime with us this year and supported South Side Kustoms thru business and/or your friendship. Your hard earned dimes, as well as your friendship and support, spent with SSK means more to me than you know. SSK is a small business and when you spend your money with my business, it helps to feed my family and pay my bills. This is how I make my living.

I sat here this year staring at the screen for a moment wondering what I may say or write, especially in this bleak economic time, that we ALL are facing. What do I say, what do I write to put a smile on everyone’s face or help them to feel the Christmas spirit?

Well here it is – Happy Christmas! As some, of you may know, I – my wife and children try our hardest to give back to this community. We send t-shirts over to troops afar, we do our annual Christmas Party for Toys for Tots, we donate food, money no matter how great or small. Every year I try to help out, Pastor Eric. He runs a Christian church called the Buffalo Dream Center, this man does great things and those of you from Buffalo, New York probably have seen him on the news. Yes, this is the guy who sleeps on the street every Thanksgiving WEEK, to raise awareness about the homeless and his Boxes of Love campaign, instead of spending it with his family.

Well this year, with things tight and tuff as they are financially, all I could offer was to donate my time delivering his “Boxes of Love”. For those of you who don’t know “Boxes of Love” is Christmas campaign Pastor Eric and his church congregation do to help the needy of our city. This equals a holiday turkey and a present for each child in the house and a overflowing bag of groceries.

So I loaded all the deliveries and started out. I made deliveries and it warmed my heart to see how happy these people are to receive these Boxes of Love. This may be all they will receive for Christmas – This may be all each child gets is ONE PRESENT.

I looked around some of these delivery locations, and a lot of these “homes” had NOTHING, No furniture – NO CHRISTMAS TREE, NO MANGER. As I delivered these “Boxes of Love” to these families and homes, who barely had anything, to see how happy they were to receive these packages, how appreciative they were, was amazing. I know plenty of us get lost in the everyday problems or bleak outlook our businesses or families face. Here were these struggling folks, but they were happy. This one little girl stuck in my mind and brought tears to my eyes. I entered her apartment with the “BOXES OF LOVE” and the little girl started to jump for joy when she saw the three presents for her and her two other siblings. She was so excited over this ONE present, probably all she would receive this Christmas. She was dancing around, her beaded hair bouncing everywhere making a joyful noise in itself. As I walked out the door she kept yelling to me HAPPY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!

After my last delivery, my car broke down as I blew an outer tie-rod, and most people would have gotten upset. All I could think of was that little girl and her smiling face yelling Happy Christmas to me. It made me understand, that no matter how bleak business looks, all that matter is that ONE THING we all hold dear to us–CHRISTMAS.

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM THE GOOSE–

Not a motorcycle was rumbling, except for Santa Claus’s.
The leather was hung in the closet with care
In hopes that nice weather, soon would be there.

Our bikes were all nestled snug in their covers,
With visions of blacktop and burning up rubber.

With momma in her bandana and I in my skull cap
We had just settled down for a long winter’s nap,

When out on the lawn, arose such a rumble,
I sprang from the bed as I started to grumble.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But, a pack of motorcycles, with riders and gear.

With one old driver so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be Biker Nick.

He was dressed all in Leather, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with bugs and road soot.

A bundle of chrome he had flung on his back,
Down the chimney he came, carrying a big red sack.

He spoke not a word but went straight to his work
As he filled all the riding boots, then turned with a jerk.

And laying a finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose.

He sprang to his motorcycle, to his team gave a sign,
As they all cracked their throttles and got into a line.

Now Honda, Now Harley, Now Triumph and Indian, On Kawi, On Suzuki, On Yamaha and Victory

But I heard him exclaim as he roared out of sight, “Keep the rubber side down and have a good ride.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.”

Toyrun

BIKER ARTIST TURNS WRITER–I’m about to post a story on my site about a MMA Toy Run I attended on Dec.10, 1978.Our group of riders met that morning at U.S. Motorcycles in Lynwood. Didn’t you work there?

The ’47 Knucklehead was a friend’s bike. Mine was the white ’71 Sportster three bikes back.

We thought his Knuckle was ancient at the time. That Sportster would now be older than that Knuck was then.Funny how time changes perspective.

Cheers!

I did work there in 1970 while I attended Long Beach City College, just after I returned from Vietnam. Shortly thereafter I went to work for Easyriders.–Bandit

MERRY CHRISTMAS GODDAMNIT–Sure feels like winter out there, even in Southern California. Life is wonderful, no matter what the media spews all over us. We don’t need the gossip bullshit they play to pump their numbers and sell ads. Life is all about our accomplishments, not gossip. We’ve got to work hard and pull together for the greater good this coming year, then we’ll be cool once more.

fuckwinter

Someone recently reminded me about the truly hard times in history and how we, as a country put the bullshit aside and pulled together. That’s what makes America strong and Christmas a time of pure joy, remembrance and respect.

All the best,

WOMEN RIDERS NOW RELEASE–Modifying a Used Police Bike To Fit YouA WRN Reader Explains How–WomenRidersNow.com recently received a Reader Review from a woman who explains how to modify a used Police Bike to make it road worthy for every day use. Lee Ann Neubauer of Tinley Park, Illinois, writes: “I’ve chosen to ride a 2003 Harley-Davidson Police Road King (FLHPI) for many reasons. First, I had ridden one in a training class and fell in love with the way that it handled. U-turns are a piece of cake and the twisties are like dancing with the bike. The dual disc brakes are wonderful, as is the fuel injection. The full windshield allows for a more comfortable and relaxing ride in any kind of weather.”

She goes on to explain the virtues of a lot of the other features found on a police bike and then outlines what she modified to make the bike fit her. To read the entire review visit this link: http://www.womenridersnow.com/PublicFiles/DepartmentViewer.asp? ArticleID=1117

HARLEY-DAVIDSON AND BUELL ANNOUNCE PRESENTING SPONSORSHIP OF 2009 AMA INTERNATIONAL WOMEN & MOTORCYCLING CONFERENCE–Harley, Buell and AMA Partner to Celebrate Women Riders.

MILWAUKEE (Dec. 22, 2008) ? Harley-Davidson and Buell are thrilled to announce their Presenting Sponsorship of the 2009 American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) International Women & Motorcycling Conference. From August 19-22, women will celebrate the freedom and control that comes with taking to the open road on two wheels at the fifth AMA Women?s Conference in scenic Keystone, Colo.

This will be the second time the Motor Company has been the Presenting Sponsor of the conference, which will offer a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for thousands of women riders to come together and enjoy the camaraderie, scenic roads and informational seminars during the conference.

According to the Motorcycle Industry Council, women now account for 12.6 percent of all motorcycle riders, a 29 percent increase since 2003. As a reflection of this trend, the AMA has seen an increase in conference attendance over the years and anticipates that it will double at the 2009 event with more than 2,200 participants.

?Harley-Davidson and Buell are excited to be very involved with this incredibly important ? and fun ? event to bring together thousands of women riders,? said Leslie Prevish, Women?s Outreach Manager, Harley-Davidson Motor Company. “The Motor Company has been committed to encouraging women to ride for decades ? even marketing the 1920 Sport model as ?The Woman?s Outdoor Companion.? Being the main sponsor of the AMA conference is another example of how Harley-Davidson continues to promote and support women in the sport of motorcycling.?

“The AMA could not be more pleased to welcome Harley-Davidson and Buell as the presenting sponsors of the fifth AMA International Women & Motorcycling Conference,” said AMA Marketing and Special Events Manager Tigra Tsujikawa. “This highly anticipated event brings the very best of the motorcycling world to women motorcyclists. It’s going to be a first-class conference, and we are excited to align ourselves with the world-class products and people of Harley-Davidson and Buell.”

In addition to a wide range of daily workshops, conference attendees will have the opportunity to demo new bikes, shop for the latest gadgets and gear at the vendor marketplace, and enjoy after-hours social activities. The conference is not restricted to women only ? attendees are encouraged to register their spouses, partners, family and friends. Keystone is located just 90 miles west of Denver. With the picturesque Rocky Mountains as a backdrop, riders will be able to take advantage of the scenic riding opportunities in the area, including some legendary two-lane, off-road and dual-sport adventures.

CUSTOM CHROME ANNOUNCES THE LAUNCH OF ITS NEW DEALER E-STORE AT WWW.CUSTOMCHROME.COM– Effective ImmediatelyCustom Chrome has developed a new research and shopping mechanism for consumers to browse the entire Custom Chrome catalog and then place their orders directly through their local dealers using the NEW Custom Chrome e-Store. This valuable tool is available to retail customers at www.customchrome.com.

Custom Chrome recognizes that in today?s world, e-commerce is a viable way for motorcycle enthusiasts to shop in the comfort of their own home or office. ?We understand that consumers do the majority of their research through magazines and online? said Steve Veltri, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Custom Chrome. ?It was for that reason we chose to develop a way in which that research could then be directed back to our valuable dealer network for an immediate transaction rather than leaving our site and trying to find another source for their purchases?.

The Custom Chrome e-Store allows consumers to choose a local dealer near them to place their order with and then begin or continue to develop a relationship that spans past their initial purchase. ?Custom Chrome will continue to support its dealer network and therefore needed to find a way to direct those consumers browsing our website to our valuable dealer network? said Holger Mohr, CEO of Custom Chrome. ?The Custom Chrome website remains a very busy place for consumers who are looking to find their next upgrade or performance enhancement? Mohr went on to say. ?We felt it was our duty to create the necessary tool needed to turn that consumer research into direct dealer sales right here on our website?.

The Custom Chrome e-Store allows full access to every section of the Custom Chrome catalog, its vendor?s products, and provides a ?Suggested Retail Price? for those products fitting the criteria. Pricing will vary depending on local taxes and handling charges depending on the dealer.

?We have been very careful during this development to respect and honor those vendors having policies regulating Internet Sales? said Kurt Peterson, Media and Events Manager for Custom Chrome. ?Those vendor relationships, like the one we have with S&S Cycle, Inc., are critically important and working with them to maintain their brand integrity as well as supporting the dealer network had to be first on the list?.
