BIKERNET CALENDAR GIRLS IN STURGIS–Each week leading up to Sturgis we’ll announce 2-3 models selected to appear in the 2010 Girls of Bikernet Calendar. The calendar will make its debut at the 69th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. More details will follow in the coming weeks on the locations we’ll have the calendars available and the locations of each girl shown in the Calendar.

All week during Sturgis, Bikernet Calendar Covergirl Donna Lalino will be in the Vicious Cycles Booth on Lazalle St. Details are being worked out now for an Official Bikernet Booth in the same area where Shelly will be signing calendars and doing photos.

Donna and Shelly are featured in this weeks released photos…. Donna is shown sitting on the Vegas Fuel Energy Drink Bike built by Vicious Cycles of Leymone, PA. Shelly is seen with the Black Widow Theme Bike built by CTM Customs of Easton, MD.

The photos attached to this email of Donna and Shelly are not necessarily the photos selected for the calendar. Those will not be shown until the week before Sturgis. Only 5,000 calendars are being produced and will be sold for $14.95…. We’ll be taking orders before Sturgis on Bikernet for anyone who can’t make it to the Rally and wants to be sure to get one of these hot calendars before we sell them out in the Black Hills! The calendar is a 16 month calendar beginning in September 2009 featuring 13 Hot Bikerbabes from across the country.

Next week we show 2 more girls from the 2010 Calendar but don’t wait til then….. this Sunday Bandit will have some of the topless photos from Shelly’s Biker Beauties Magazine that are just too revealing for the calendar or the magazine! Check them out in the Cantina on Sunday!!

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER REVEALS CHEESE FACTS– 5 Healthy Cheese Choices.

From cheese-stuffed sandwiches to the samples on toothpicks in the grocery store, cheese seems to be everywhere. While it is a good source of calcium, its high fat (and often high sodium) content means it should be enjoyed in moderation. This is not as hard as it may seem when you consider how flavorful cheese can be – try the following when the cheese plate comes your way:

Choose a small piece of a cheese you really enjoy and savor it.

Fill up on low-calorie vegetables and fruits, and add a piece of cheese on the side.
Try not to eat more than one to two ounces every few days.
Opt for low-fat versions when you can.

If you’re pregnant, avoid soft cheeses (such as feta, goat, blue and brie) as they may harbor Listeria, a bacterium that can harm a growing baby. Instead, choose hard cheeses like Parmesan, Gruyere and hard Swiss cheese when you’re eating for two.

bulldog bash

BULLDOG BASH FIGHTS POLICE EXTORTION, CONFIDENT LICENSE WILL BE UPHELD– The organisers of the Bulldog Bash are amazed and baffled that ACC Bill Holland is applying for yet another review to the license; using a re hashed version of the same grounds which have already been rejected by Stratford Council. The organizers commented ?We fully understand that under British law the review must be heard by the licensing authority; however we are confident that when the review is heard the police?s unjustified application will again be rejected as it has been before.?

Responding to police statements to the press, organizers say they are ?deeply disappointed? by unfounded allegations and claims made by Warwickshire?s assistant chief constable Bill Holland, who failed to cancel the show last year and has also had a bid for a review of the event license this year rejected by Stratford council.

A spokesman for the bash continued: ?There has been no material change in the circumstances from the license hearing, and the examples given are simply rehashed from then – we fail to understand why the police continue to raise these matters, when the issues were fully discussed and resolved with a three day hearing at the conclusion of which a 10-year license was granted.

Police forces local to other similar shows have publicly stated their intention to work with those organisers to avoid a repeat of last year?s problems ? we are mystified as to why this does not apply to the Bulldog Bash.

The Bash is a well run, well regulated and tightly controlled commercial event – involving many people from different backgrounds and walks of life, unconnected to the organizers. They work co-operatively with us to stage a show with an excellent safety record and low crime rate, going back many years. Any profits made are re-invested in making the event bigger and better. This can be seen at Bulldog 23 with rock legends Motorhead, headlining on Saturday, and personalities from the motorcycling world such as Russell Mitchell of Exile Cycles attending; improved drastrip entertainment including jet cars and rocket bikes and an expanded custom show including special prizes for women custom builders.?

The Bulldog Bash has been for many years widely recognised as a very safe festival. In 22 years, there has never been a serious incident at the site on the Long Marston airfield ? events off site are beyond the control of the organisers as accepted by Stratford council last year when they granted us a ten year licence.?

The spokesman gave the example of violence miles from a football stadium after a game in which a fan is injured or killed- the stadium isn?t shut down or future matches banned.

There is absolutely no evidence of any threat of ?serious harm? to the public – in the past the police and the local council have actually praised the safety and organisation of the event. This is plainly scaremongering.

The Police are clearly desperately clutching at straws in an unjustified effort to try to stop the show.

Tickets are available from The Bulldog Bash, PO Box 5026, East Reading, RG6 1QZ ? Please send a cheque or postal order for ?50 per person, plus a first class postage paid SEA, to arrive no later than 30th of June. After this date the gate price of ?55 applies.

Keep an eye on the Bulldog Bash website and forum at www.bulldogbash.com .

roar 1

ROAR, motorcycles for women–Chatting casually, there’s not a hint of irony in Kathy Tolleson’s voice. In a matter-of-fact tone that’s so steady she might just as easily be ordering dinner, she throws off the line like it’s barely worth mentioning, ?I’ve been riding [motorcycles] ever since I was a young kid.?

At only five feet tall, Tolleson doesn’t look like she has much hope of muscling anything more than a moped around the parking lot. But looks can be deceiving. Kathy Tolleson is not the demure, petite, retiring woman her stature might suggest. She’s a lioness on the prowl – and she’s got her sights set on some very big game.

What separates this grandmother from the stereotypical AARP member’s profile is the fact that not only has she been an avid motorcyclist for much of her life, she has gone beyond the limitations of being a mere rider and has thrown herself headlong into the mission of changing the face of motorcycling forever.

Kathy is the CEO of a different kind of motorcycle company. Watch for the name, ROAR, motorcycles for women; they just may be on to something here.

While most of the motorcycle industry is aimed at the 18 ? 49 year old male, Kathy and her crew have focused their attention on the most under-served portion of the market. Their client?le has the potential for explosive growth. They’ve rarely been the focus of an advertising campaign; hardly ever had a bike designed just for them, and are often ignored if they work up the courage to actually walk into a bike shop. They’re women, and ROAR was launched specifically to cater to the female motorcycle enthusiast. Including women who may not even be aware they have a desire to ride.

?I was really concerned about mainstream women,? admitted Kathy. In describing the mission of her fledgling shop and manufacturing company she explained her goal of extending, ?an invitation to women who never felt like they had an invitation to the ball.?

Consider your invitation sent ladies. Kathy’s got your back in a big way.

roar 2

ROAR customizes existing motorcycles to fit the woman who wants to ride them. By lowering the bike, Kathy’s crew is able to lower the center-of-gravity. With the seat customized for fit and sitting lower to the ground, even a five footer like the company’s CEO can stand flat footed at a stop light. But that’s not the extent of the ROAR full bike makeover. By taking into account the complete range of ergonomics that affect a rider’s safety and comfort, ROAR is bringing to the street a string of hot machines that are more than just high end eye candy. These are fully functional street machines that will turn heads anywhere they roll.

?Women are into color,? says the boss in cool tones that belie the intensity of her mission. She makes her point with flair, explaining that men predominantly shop for shoes in black or brown. Women on the other hand want a rainbow of options. ROAR makes those options available on their bikes, too.

?You do not have to be a grease monkey anymore,? she says of the riding experience. Electric start, leak free engines, and the availability of belt or shaft drive have erased forever the image of the oil soaked rider struggling to replace a thrown chain, then huffing and puffing while jumping up and down on the kick starter in an effort to get the beast breathing again.

Perhaps most important to the issue of attracting women to the saddle is the fact that the Motorcycle Safety Foundation has developed a safe program where women can learn to ride. No longer do women have to shudder at the thought of learning the ropes on a bike that’s much too large and heavy ? while sweating bullets in fear that they’ll drop such a monstrosity in a turn and feel the wrath of its angry owner. Couple that relatively new development with the fact that ROAR can put a woman on a bike that fits them and Kathy is confident that motorcycling may be poised for a change.

roar 3

Beyond customization is where the real story is, and ROAR’s latest offering is the WildKaT ? a purpose built women’s motorcycle that sports all the fit and flash a frame can contain, with a 1200cc Harley-Davidson motor tucked into its belly.

The proprietary frame and swing arm allow the ROAR builders to do something truly remarkable with tubular steel. And the inclusion of one of the most highly respected power-trains in the business is brilliant. Any WildKaT owner will be able to find parts and skilled mechanical expertise in any corner of North America.

These folks are thinking ahead, and thinking creatively in a way that has seldom been seen in the world of motorcycling.

Something tells me we’re all about to be hearing a whole lot more about ROAR, the WildKaT, and women bikers tooling through town looking way better than their boyfriends and husbands ever dreamed was possible.

Genuine, KYMCO USA Partner with Progressive–Genuine Scooter Co. and KYMCO USA have teamed with insurance provider Progressive to market insurance opportunities to consumers through the OEM dealer networks.

Customers can now get insurance quotes on their scooters while at Genuine and KYMCO dealerships, either by calling a toll free number or by visiting Progressive online. The deal doesn?t make dealers actual insurance agents, since no coverage will actually be sold by the vehicle retailers.

“Progressive currently works with a variety of different OEMs, but this initiative with Genuine and KYMCO USA is a little different,” Progressive Special Lines Director of Distribution Matt Jevack told Dealernews. “The goal is to help dealerships sell more scooters by providing an instant and timely insurance solution to their customers at the point of sale.”

Genuine logo

“This has been in the works for a long time,” said Philip McCaleb, CEO of Genuine Scooter Co. “This arrangement with Progressive will make it faster and easier for our customers to get insurance right away. Instead of hesitating and wondering whether they’ll be able to insure their scooter, they’ll be able to ride right out of the dealership knowing they’re covered.”

“This partnership with Progressive is a win-win for both dealers and people purchasing our products,” said Steve Lazoff, director of sales, KYMCO USA. “We’re going to make getting insurance quicker and easier, especially for buyers who come in on evenings or weekends.”

To support the effort, Progressive is providing Genuine dealers a welcome packet that includes FAQs; a point-of-purchase life-size cut-out of “Flo,” the popular character in Progressive’s superstore commercials; and a specially dedicated Web site, www.progressive.com/genuine. KYMCO dealers will receive a similar Progressive welcome packet, including vehicle and insurance FAQs, a sample annual premium for KYMCO models and a dedicated site, www.progressive.com/KYMCO.

GUN ISSUE – Only takes 5 seconds to vote– Remind the Government of the 2nd Amendment: Due to the current presidential stand on Gun Laws, USA Today is running a Quick Question on-line. IT simply asks, Does the 2nd Amendment give individuals the right to bear arms? It is frustrating to me that “we the people” are even asked to reiterate a known right that has been around for over 200 years!

This quick questionnaire gives you the right to make your opinion heard. It takes 5 seconds. It is still a live link. Our new Attorney General has already said this is one of his major issues.

This takes literally 2 clicks to complete. Please vote on this gun issue question with USA Today. It will only take a few seconds of your time. Then pass the link on to all the pro gun folks you know. Hopefully these results will be published later this month.

First – vote on this one. Second – launch it to other folks and have THEM vote – then we will see if the results get published. Vote in the USA Today poll – click on the link below. The Question is: Does the Second Amendment give individuals the right to bear arms? Click Here For Their Website

AH, I SURVIVED ANOTHER THURSDAY–Tomorrow I pick up my 5-Ball Factory Racer powder coating and get to work. Sturgis is just 5 weeks away. Watch for my build report next week. It’s going to be a monster and include intalling the new Baker kicker system.

I’m asking George, The Wild Brush, to give me a hand with pinstriping and graphics this weekend. I need to have the tank and fender cleared, or maybe not. It’s going to be a scramble. Every year I build a bike, I think it will be the one. This year I built this bike to fit and be comfortable, yet different as hell. We’ll see, as I roll out toward the Badlands.

I finished my final Chance Hogan book edit, and it will head to the layout artist this weekend. I should have copies delivered in July. Dr. Nuttboy is working on the cover art. He has a phd in art and teaches at the local college. Here’s the glitch, the title. We can’t seem to nail it down. Chance Hogan I, Docks and Dames. Or how about Chance Hogan I, Riding A Web of Deceit. It’s all about sex, romance and murder.

Here’s the deal for Bikernet content next week: We have a German blonde Girl of Bikernet feature lined up, and a historic Cleveland motorcycle restoration for the Cantina. Sucker Punch Sally’s was involved in a charity build and we’ll bring you the report and the motorcycle. I’m hoping to find the Big Dog Skil K-9 on tour in Los Angeles and deliver a feature. There’s more content flying at us daily. We’ll try to keep up.

WHAT’S UP WITH THE NEW EFFORT TO BUILD CROCKERS–Crocker had on their facebook that Accurate Engineering would no longer be doing their engines.Prior to reading that I had a conversation with Berry and he told me that Michael had not paid him. When I saw what Michael said, I thought I should clarify the reason for anyone who reads it.

–Rogue

Michael why not tell everyone one that you have Not Paid Berry Wardlaw of Accurate Engineering the money you owe him, and that is why he is no longer working on your engines?

I hope no one I know invests and gets burnt. There are some serious questions like about Michael?s first partner that we met in Cincy a few years ago and why he stopped being a partner.

Michael wants to drag this out through the courts just like Quantum did and make it look like some one else did wrong.

I do believe he is looking for money and hopes someone not familiar with the industry will come to bail him out.

I would be asking who is going to be putting his engines together if not Accurate? How dependable would they be? Scary to me.

East Coast Prevails in Broken Spoke?s Laconia Bike Build-off–Paul Cox was the people?s choice winner of the 2009 Bike Build-off at the Broken Spoke Saloon?s Laconia location. Thousands voted over three days for their favorite custom build on display between Brooklyn?s Paul Cox and Southern California?s Chica. The margin was slim ? with Cox tipping the scales with only a 5% margin over Chica. Master builder Dave Perewitz was on hand to announce the winner and award the trophies.

The winning custom was a rigid frame, constructed in a style only Paul Cox could create. Both builders worked tirelessly to build the bikes in only two weeks in time for Laconia. Chica burned the midnight oil in order to have his bike shipped to Laconia in time for judging to begin, and both Cox & Chica had to work on Cox?s bike on Friday to get it up and running in time for Saturday?s Shakedown ride. Both bikes ran flawlessly on the Shakedown Ride ? the builder would have been deducted points if the bike broke down ? which was a rare opportunity for the public to ride side-by-side with the contenders.

The Spoke was packed wall-to-wall for the announcement of the winner ? all were clearly excited that bike build-offs are back at the Spoke. ?Look to see more unique competitions like this at the Spoke ? from the best in the business,? says owner Jay Allen ?The build-off is alive and well!?

The evening was capped off by an electrifying performance by Edgar Winter and his talented band playing old favorites ?Frankenstein? and ?Free Ride?. The free-admission show concluded the Broken Spoke?s successful, albeit rainy, celebration of the 86th annual bike week in Laconia, New Hampshire.

The fun doesn?t end after bike week is over ? the Broken Spoke Saloon & Museum is open until November 1st. The Broken Spoke will be serving a full menu, plus your favorite cold beverages, with flat screen TVs, a jukebox and impressive motorcycle memorabilia on display all summer long. The Broken Spoke is located on Route 3 in Laconia, next to Fun Spot.

Check out the website www.brokenspokesaloon.com for photos of the Laconia Bike Week, the bike build-off, upcoming Laconia summer events and much more.

The Broken Spoke Saloon has locations in Daytona, New Orleans, Myrtle Beach and two locations in Sturgis. The campground in Sturgis on Highway 79 North features camping for $99/person during the 2009 rally, a ride-through Broken Spoke Saloon and the world?s biggest biker pool. This year?s schedule includes the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Moving Wall, a Sugar Bear/Michael Lichter Ride, .38 Special, Foghat and much more. More details at: www.BrokenSpokeCampground.com.

BANDIT’S BEDROLL ROAD TESTED ON CYCLE SOURCE MOUNTAIN RUN–We left Minnesota to Milwaukee last Tuesday with a friend of mine Dan on his ’66. No trailer no chase trucks just us. Made it to Milwaukee late, we thought either he was needing rings or sucked a head gasket, as she started smoking bad, half way there. Turns out the ’66 broke a valve guide and was smoking like crazy but made it to my parent?s farm 350 miles.

Wednesday morning we track down a set of heads for sale put new valves in them and get the bike ready to continue the trip to Indiana.

We left Milwaukee by 4 PM and rolled into our next stop in Indiana around 4:30 am Thursday mornin’ bikes ran good few minor breakdowns, beers, until 7am as everyone was waiting up for us 360 more miles. Slept for a few hours and then we rolled out of Indiana on our way to Reliance Tennessee.

On and off minor problems but nothing major roll into the campground around 3 in the morning, Friday after 400 miles. Friday we ride all around, Real cool roads out there.

kbaas 2knuck

Saturday head to the devils tail but on the way the ’66 loses his charging system. Get back and find out generator is dead, swap it out with a Cycle Electric off a broke down Pan, already out of commission and back on the road we go.

Leave Sunday 7:30 in the morning from TN and drive straight through to Milwaukee around 800 miles. Get to Milwuakee around 3 am. Leave Milwaukee Monday morning around 10 am get back to MN around 7 pm. What a great trip, the Big Mountain Run ruled and will be a must go to destination for me and my crew every year!

Motorcycle Industry Council Develops New Roadside Sound Test So Cops can Easily Ticket Violators– SAE Standard Accurately Identifying Excessively Loud Exhausts.Irvine, Calif., June 24, 2009 – On-highway riders and their bikes don’t have to be victims of questionable sound-level checks anymore, thanks to a new procedure developed by the Motorcycle Industry Council in partnership with SAE International, and adopted by the global association, known for establishing a wide range of motor vehicle standards.

Now, law-enforcement authorities have a simple, quick, economical and science-based tool for accurately identifying motorcycles with excessively loud exhaust systems. The SAE document J2825, “Measurement of Exhaust Sound Pressure Levels of Stationary On-Highway Motorcycles,” meets the need for a practical, consistent roadside sound test.

Three years ago, the MIC initiated and began executing the $250,000 project, conducting field-testing, analyzing the data, and providing the initial draft standard. A representative sample of 25 motorcycles and more than 50 aftermarket exhaust systems were tested. Collaborating with the MIC throughout, the SAE Motorcycle Technical Steering Committee validated the scope of work and co-wrote the final standard.

SAE J2825 is similar to J1287, the procedure widely used for off-highway motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles since the 1980s. The J2825 roadside test is conducted by holding a sound meter 20 inches behind the exhaust outlet, at the same height, and 45 degrees from the line of travel of the motorcycle.

The procedure includes two tests: an Idle Test and a Set RPM Test. The Idle Test is the easiest to administer and can be used to screen various mufflers. But the Set RPM Test is the most effective in identifying excessively loud exhaust systems. A non-constant, Swept RPM Test Method also is included as an alternative to the Set RPM Test, for motorcycles that will not hold constant rpm.

The SAE recommends that the following lowest numerical limits be adopted:
* 92 dBA at idle for all motorcycles
* 96 dBA for motorcycles with fewer than three cylinders or more than four cylinders at 2000 rpm (or 75 percent of maximum engine speed, whichever is less)
* 100 dBA for motorcycles with three or four cylinders at 5,000 rpm (or 75 percent of maximum engine speed, whichever is less)

And, 2 dBA should be added to these sound limits for motorcycle exhaust systems that are clearly labeled as meeting the EPA sound limits and have not been obviously modified or tampered with.

The SAE J2825 standard can be downloaded on the SAE website for a list price of $61 at http://www.sae.org/technical/standards/J2825_200905. The SAE member price is $48.80.

ABATE OF CALIFORNIA ALERT FROM MOTORCYCLE RIDERS FOUNDATION–Our out-of-state brothers and sisters may be our most effective resourcein fighting the motorcycle smog bill SB 435. As it stands as of thiswriting, SB 435 has been passed to the Assembly as a SMOG CHECK BILL onthe verbal promise to amend but has not yet been fulfilled. It wouldappear that it may go so far as to include all 3 (smog check, noise, andcatalytic converter with random pull over inspection thrown in for goodmeasure).

ABATE of CA is asking all out of state motorcyclists to contact theChairman of the Assembly Transportation Committee, Mike Eng at phone916-319-2049 fax 916-319-2149

ADVICE FROM BIKERNET TRAINING GURU, A Flat Stomach– A little boy walks into his parents’ room to see his mom on top of his dad bouncing up and down.

The mom sees her son and quickly dismounts, worried about what her son has seen. She dresses quickly and goes to find him… The son sees his mom and asks, ‘What were you and Dad doing?’

The mother replies, ‘Well, you know your dad has a big tummy and sometimes I have to get on top of it and help flatten it..’

‘You are wasting your time,’ said the boy.

‘Why is that?’ the mom asked puzzled.

‘Well when you go shopping the lady next door comes over and gets on her knees and blows it right back up again!!

UNCLE MONKEY ASKS, “WHAT’S THAT SMELL?”–“What’s that smell?” Lynyrd Skynyrd asked us smoke tainted years ago. As we speed across this great nation, these great cities our noses are inundated with a variety of scents and smells. While we all know what the answer was to Skynyrd?s question back then; it still is question we ask today as we ride. Riding a motorcycle is the best way of experiencing the scented world that is around us.

We’ve all be caught off-guard passing a livestock feed lot or sewage treatment plant as the smell burning our nostrils, choking in the back of our throats. Often we look accusingly at our riding partner, ridicule them, and push on. But along with the foul we also pass groves of cherry blossoms, cloves of garlic. We smell the sweet ears of corn, the fields of freshly mowed grass.

As we ride we smell the rain in the air telling us we should don our rain gear before it is too late. We can smell the lightening in the air; smell the ice of falling hailstones. They warn us of upcoming danger and excitement.

The smells are driven deep within our souls as we ride. They become a part of us, permeating our clothes, our skin, our very beings. An intoxicating blend of smoke, road grime and hydrocarbons. The smell of leather, dead bugs and gasoline. The scent of strippers, stale beer and staler cigarette smoke. The lingering skunk around the back doors of seedy nightclubs and boutique dealerships.

Sometimes bitter, sometimes sweet, but always welcomed.

Weather up here turned summer on Monday ? it was 85 degree! 15 day forecast says that?s how it?ll be. From Hwy 139 (the route to the Rally) bikers see Mount Shasta to the south. Quick Throttle expo

OPEN Letter from the Publisher OF QUICK THROTTLE MAGAZINE–SHASTA SALUTE TO AMERICA: I am sure many of you are wondering why we are shamelessly promoting an out of area event even so far as to give them our May cover.

Speaking as plainly as I can for our entire family of magazines we simply want this event which is just over the Oregon-California border to be as successful as we can help make it. Quick Throttle believes its time that we as riders send as strong a message as we an to the City of Hollister and its feeble minded city and county government that when you cancel as great an event as the Hollister Freedom Rally and in so doing kick us and 100,000 other riders to the curb we won?t be back!

Instead we will go where we are made to feel welcome and spend our hard earned money there. Such an event is the Shasta Salute to America Rally.

Please help us send a signal to the Hollisters, the Snohomishes and others who think they can continue to inflice absurd ?security costs? on us despite the events mentioned having impeccable safety and behavior records. Your attendance at this landmark event that honors our country and our military will send that message loud and clear. Join us over the 4th of July weekend and watch as rally history is made!

Legal disputes abound, Jesse James is in trouble, and the Crocker motorcycle effort may be falling apart. I hate to see an historic Motorcycle brand dragged through the mud or used to bilk good folks out of money. So let’s get started–Hang on:

Charlie and Sabrina just got back from Grimsby England, where they were the guests of the Warlocks MC Lincolnshire chapters.

The Warlocks were celebrating the 13th anniversary of founding their first English chapter there. The four-day party and bike show was held at the ?Yard Birds? rock club, A Grimsby nightclub owned and operated by the Lincolnshire Warlocks. The two story building also houses the chapter?s clubhouse they call the ?Alamo?.

This was Charlie and Sabrina?s first trip to Europe and they had a blast.

Charlie and Sabrina plan on traveling to the Allgau region of Germany in October to shoot video of a party being held by the German Warlocks, as well as his ongoing travels throughout the good old USA, shooting the different Warlocks chapters, parties and doing interviews, all to be edited into this documentary.

Charlie and co-producer Billy Warlock, a 38-year original mother chapter brother from Orlando, Florida, want to show the club?s true history, which began in the Navy during the Vietnam era, their early struggle to be a recognized motorcycle club in the state of Florida during the 70?s and 80?s. But more then anything, they want to show the true brotherhood that is the Warlocks motorcycle club. MEES AND COOLBETH ON THE PODIUM AT VOLUNTEER SPEEDWAY–Coolbeth Takes AMA Grand National Twins Points Lead.

BULLS GAP, Tenn. (June 20, 2009) ? Harley-Davidson Wrecking Crew riders took two spots on the podium in the AMA Grand National Twins main event at Volunteer Speedway, as Blue Springs Harley-Davidson/Screamin’ Eagle rider Jared Mees finished second and Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle factory rider Kenny Coolbeth was third. Mees finished 0.568 seconds behind the winner, Halbert Family/Kings Kustoms rider Sammy Halbert. All three riders were on Harley-Davidson XR750 motorcycles.

It was the first Grand National Twins event win for the 21-year-old Halbert, who also won his qualifying heat and earned five points for winning the Dash for Cash bonus sprint at Volunteer Speedway.

Halbert led from the start of the race, but was passed by Mees on lap five. One lap later the race was stopped when R&D Machine/Claremore Custom Cycles rider AJ Eslick spun out in turn two. Mees took the lead again on the restart, with Halbert and Coolbeth giving chase. Halbert passed Mees for the lead on lap 12. Mees and Halbert then battled for 10 more laps, with Mees closing in the corners but never able officially take the lead. With about three laps to go, Halbert was able to open a slight lead that Mees was not able to close. Coolbeth trailed the leaders by less than a second for most of the race. Moroney?s Harley-Davidson/Screamin’ Eagle rider Bryan Smith finished fourth.

?It was some really aggressive racing but a lot of fun. Halbert found some good lines and ran a great race,? said Mees. ?The Blue Springs crew put me on a great-running Harley-Davidson, and Halbert and I were really dicing it out in the corners before I started to slip a little bit and he opened a lead. And I had Coolbeth right on my tail the whole race. I think this is going to be a very competitive season.?

It was the second podium of the season for Coolbeth, the defending Grand National Twins champion, who finished second on the track at the season opener at the Springfield Mile on Memorial Day weekend. Coolbeth was later declared the winner of that race after Smith?s fuel failed a post-race test and subsequent appeals, and he was disqualified.

?It was a great race, and I was kind of hanging back there in third thinking the leaders might mess each other up, and they came close a few times,? said Coolbeth. ?You are really going to have to be on your game this season, because right now everyone is really equal in terms of performance. And they have added the Dash for Cash, which counts for points, and you need to be in that race and do well. We had a good night and leave here with the points lead.?

After two of nine 2009 AMA Grand National Twins Championship events, Coolbeth leads the series in points with 43, followed by Mees with 38, Chris Carr with 32 and Halbert with 30.

The 2009 AMA Grand National Twins Championship will next race on June 27 on the Allen county Fairgrounds half-mile, in Lima, Ohio

Senator Robert P. Casey, Jr. (D-PA) introduced S. 1248, the Green Transportation Efficiency Act of 2009, to expand on the existing “Cash for Clunkers” program by providing vouchers to people who trade in older, less fuel-efficient vehicles for a more fuel-efficient motorcycle.

The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) supports S. 1248 and urges other Senators to cosponsor Senator Casey’s bill.

The current “Cash for Clunkers” program would offer up to $4,500 in vouchers to help people who trade in cars or SUVs with a combined fuel economy of 18 miles-per-gallon or less to buy newer, more fuel-efficient vehicles. S. 1248 would provide vouchers to encourage consumers to trade in their older, less fuel-efficient vehicles for new, more fuel-efficient cars, trucks and motorcycles.

Participants would receive a $2,500 voucher for the purchase of a new motorcycle. By including this language, the “Cash for Clunkers” program will be consistent with various Federal laws that define automobiles, light duty trucks and motorcycles as “motor vehicles”.

Motorcycles reduce traffic and parking congestion, increase fuel economy and are less of an impact on our roads and bridges compared with automobiles and light duty trucks. Many AMA members recognize the multiple benefits of motorcycles and employ them as their primary means of transportation.

Motorcyclists are not any different from drivers of automobiles and light duty trucks who have been hit hard by the economic downturn. Moreover, motorcyclists typically purchase new bikes, apparel, vehicle servicing and after-market equipment from local dealers that are family-owned businesses. These family-owned dealers then obtain merchandise and product from the same local suppliers as the auto dealers.

To find contact information for your Senators on AmericanMotorcyclist.com, click on “Rights,” then “Issues & Legislation,” and enter your zip code in the “Find your Officials” box. Additionally, a prewritten e-mail is available for you to send to your U.S. Senators by following the “Take Action” option and entering your information.

All AMA members and anyone else who enjoys riding is urged to contact their Senators and ask them to cosponsor S. 1248, the Green Transportation Efficiency Act of 2009.

IRON BLOCK H-D COMMENT–Reading the Thursday news I saw the article about Erik Dunk and his billboard posts about Obama in front of Iron Block HD in Jefferson County NY. He might be anti-Obama but nothing he said is even remotely anti-Muslim. The Motor Company (HD), in their infinite wisdom, threatened to pull Mr Dunks franchise if he didn’t remove his sign.

So much for their advertising dollars spent on being American and the importance of buying products made in the good old U.S.of A. and last but not least, the feeling of FREEDOM you get from riding their Made in America motorcycles.

They might want to read Our Constitution, especially the First amendment. I believe it mentions something about freedom of speech. I don’t bitch too much, but this just rubbed me the wrong way. Have a great fourth, I’m sure you’ll appreciate our freedoms as the majority of Americans do.

BIKERNET TECH QUESTION ANSWERED BY THE BOSS OF COMPU-FIRE–The Battery Booster was a popular product in the Compufire line about 10years ago–Back in the day, the electronic components used in the manufacture ofignition modules had a minimum operating voltage of 8.5 volts. When thestarter motor was engaged, and it is drawing current from the battery, thevoltage dropped.

Often it would drop below 8.5 volts and the ignition module would turn off, causing the coil to discharge a spark. This all occured whenthe starter was pushing a piston through compression and the mis-timed sparkwould kick-back the piston in the wrong direction generally taking out thestarter clutch.

We recognized this problem and developed the Batttery Booster which was asimple voltage sensing circuit with a 9 volt battery that woud keep theignition module powered up in low voltage conditions.

A lot of people thought the 9 volt battery in the Booster was also poweringthe starter.Soon after the release of the Battery Booster, the electrical componentmfgrs improved their product and ignition modules now operate down to 4.5volts, therefore the Booster became obsolete.

Bikernet Year Of The Veteran

Navybonds

Editor's Note: We want to devote this year to Veterans from all arms of our military. I was in the Navy from '66-'70 and did three tours along the coast of Vietnam on a heavy cruiser, the St. Paul. Over the months ahead we will cover significant charity efforts for veterans in hopes that our readers will become informed and pick a veteran's charity to support.–Bandit

I like standing on the bridge wing at sunrise with salt spray in my face and clean ocean winds whipping in from the four quarters of the globe – the ship beneath me feeling like a living thing as her engines drive us through the sea.

Navy487

I like the rough metal sounds of the Navy – the piercing trill of the boatswains pipe, the syncopated clangor of the ship's bell on the quarterdeck, and the harsh squawk of the 1MC.

Navy159

Navy1977
There had to be a motorcycle in this mix.

I like the fighting vessels of the Navy–fast darting destroyers, plodding Fleet auxiliaries, sleek submarines and solid carriers, lumbering steel armed cities. I like the proud booming names of Navy capital ships: Midway, Lexington, Saratoga, Coral Sea – memorials of great battles won. I like the historic names of Navy 'tin-cans': Barney, Dahlgren, Mullinix, McCloy – mementos of heroes who went before us.

Navy14

I like the tempo of a Navy band blaring through the topside speakers as we pull away from the oiler after refueling at sea.

Navy58

I like liberty call and the spicy scent of a foreign port, the girls and new adventures. I even like all hands working parties as my ship fills herself with the multitude of supplies both mundane and exotic, which she needs to cut her ties to the land and carry out her on a mission anywhere on the globe, where there is water to float her.

Ain't all fun and games.

I trust and depend on my brother sailors, from far and wide, as they trust and depend on me – for professional competence, for comradeship, for courage. In a word, they are shipmates.

Navy147

I like the surge of adventure in my heart when the word is passed “Now station the special sea and anchor detail – all hands to quarters for leaving port,” and I like the infectious thrill of sighting home again, with the waving hands of welcome from family and friends waiting pier side. The work is hard and dangerous, the going rough at times, the parting from loved ones painful, but the companionship of robust Navy laughter, the 'all for one and one for all' philosophy of the sea is ever present.

Navy125

I like the serenity of the sea after a day of hard ship's work, as flying fish flit across the wave tops and sunset gives way to night. I like the feel of the Navy in darkness – the masthead lights, the red and green navigation lights and stern light, the pulsating phosphorescence of radar repeaters – they cut through the dusk and join with the mirror of stars overhead. And I like drifting off to sleep lulled by the myriad noises large and small that tell me that my ship is alive and well, and that my shipmates on watch will keep me safe.

Navy125

I like quiet mid-watches with the aroma of strong coffee – the lifeblood of the Navy – permeating everywhere. And I like hectic watches when the exacting minuet of haze-gray shapes racing at flank speed keeps all hands on a razor edge of alertness.

Navy301

I like the sudden electricity of General quarters, general quarters, all hands man your battle stations followed by the hurried clamor of running feet on ladders and the resounding thump of watertight doors as the ship transforms herself in a few brief seconds from a peaceful work place to a weapon of war – ready for anything.

Navy315

I like the traditions of the Navy and the men and women who made them. I like the proud names of Navy heroes: Halsey, Nimitz, Perry, Farragut, John Paul Jones. A sailor can find much in the Navy: comrades-in-arms, pride in self and country, mastery of the seaman's trade, education and worldly experience. An adolescent can find adulthood and serve his country while learning a trade.

Navy022

In years to come, when sailors are home from the sea, they will still remember with fondness and respect the ocean in all its moods – the impossible shimmering mirror calm and the storm-tossed green water surging over the bow. There will come again a faint whiff of stack gas, a rumbling echo of engines and rudder orders, a vision of the bright bunting of signal flags snapping at the yardarm, and the sloshing mess hall food bins during a storm. Gone ashore for good they will grow wistful about their Navy days, when the seas belonged to them and a new port of call was ever over the horizon.

Remembering this, they will stand taller and say,

COAST TO COAST LEGISLATIVE UPDATE FOR JUNE–IS THE SMOG ISSUE IN CALIFA GONE? COPS SUED OVER EVENTS, MISSOURI HELMET REPEAL COULD USE YOUR HELP

MISSOURI HELMET FREEDOM STILL ON HOLD

Legislation to partially repeal the ?Show Me? state?s 42-year old mandatory helmet law has been sitting on Governor Jay Nixon?s desk since May 29, awaiting his approval or veto. Senate Bill 202, a bill to allow motorcyclists 21 and older to ride without helmets except on the interstate highway system, passed both the House and Senate and will become law in Nixon doesn?t veto the measure.

In addition to the helmet provisions, SB 202 introduced by Senator Kurt Schaefer (R-Columbia) would also prohibit insurance companies from reducing claims from injured motorcycle riders on the grounds that a motorcycle is a hazardous vehicle, even if the rider is fault-free.

Nixon has received about 1,000 e-mails and letters on the motorcycle legislation — more than on any other legislative issue, said a spokesman for the governor?s office. Those urging the governor to sign the legislation outnumbered those urging a veto by about 7-to-1, according to analysis of the messages by The Associated Press.

Mark Chapman, chairman of the Freedom of Road Riders of Missouri, said that motorcyclists should be allowed to decide for themselves when conditions warrant wearing a helmet. “It should be my choice as an adult,” Chapman said. “It’s not like I’m a 10 year old trying to kill myself.”

Those who urged him to sign the bill — some of whom said they regularly wear helmets — mentioned personal freedom and suggested that not requiring helmets could spur tourism.

FORR-MO is appealing to riders nationwide to contact his office and urge Gov. Nixon to sign the bill into law or allow it to automatically become law without his signature. You can call Missouri Governor Jay Nixon at (573) 751-3222, e-mail him through www.governor.mo.gov or write to P.O. Box 720, Jefferson City, MO 65102.

OMAHA POLICE TO ENFORCE HELMET COMPLIANCE

If you?ve ever wondered where some of your state and federal motorcycle safety funds are being spent, the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety has awarded a grant to fund extra police officers on the streets to ensure motorcyclists are compliant with Nebraska state laws regarding motorcycle helmets.

The Omaha Police Department received $25,000 in grant funding to begin operations to enforce motorcycle helmet compliance throughout the entire city from May 27 through September 30, 2009.

Nebraska state law specifies that protective helmets that meet the United States Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard #218 are required for all operators and passengers of a motorcycle or moped.

Citing safety concerns, officers will be citing operators who are in violation of this law and confiscating their non-compliant helmets.

In the meantime, Vermont State Police are advising motorcyclists that a new state law goes into effect on July 1st requiring that all helmets be DOT approved, similar to a measure enacted recently in North Carolina.

SMOG, OR SMOKE & MIRRORS?

In spite of already having the lowest motorcycle emissions standards in the country, and despite verbal promises from the legislative sponsor in response to key Senate opposition, a bill to enact Smog Checks for motorcycles has passed the California State Senate and may be heard in the Assembly as early as June 29th.

ABATE of California is seeking nationwide assistance to quash this bill once and for all. ?Our out of state brothers and sisters may be our most effective resource in fighting the motorcycle smog bill,? wrote ABATE Executive Director Tim Tennimon in a request to NCOM to help rally opposition to Senate Bill 435. ?SB 435 has been passed to the Assembly as a SMOG CHECK BILL on the verbal promise to amend but has not yet been fulfilled. It would appear that it may go so far as to include all 3 (smog check, noise, and catalytic converter with random pull over inspection thrown in for good measure),? explains Tennimon.

Sponsor of the measure, Santa Monica Senator Fran Pavley, agreed to remove the controversial biennial emissions testing when the bill passed the Senate, but no such action has yet been taken.

ABATE Lobbyist Jim Lombardo reports that ?I personally spoke with the committee staff and they have not been officially notified that SB 435 is to be amended or turned into a 2-year bill, and even if it had, Pavley could ask for it to be reset for a hearing?the stakes are too high to be caught with our pants down: LET?S KILL SB 435 — IT IS STILL A SMOG CHECK BILL!!!?

Therefore, ABATE of CA is asking all out of state motorcyclists to contact the Chairman of the Assembly Transportation Committee, Mike Eng at phone (916) 319-2049, fax 916-319-2149, or e-mail Assemblymember.Eng@asm.ca.gov, and also Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger at phone (916) 445-2841, fax 916-558-3160, or e-mail at gov.ca.gov, and let them know that if you are going to be at risk of being singled out and pulled over for exhaust system inspections when you visit California then you will choose another location to spend your vacation dollars, and urge their NO vote on SB 435.

?Unfortunately many laws of this type start in California and spread to other states,? warns Tennimon, so ?the place to stop it is here and now, then hopefully you won’t have to deal with anything like this in your state.?

AIM ATTORNEY SUES NY POLICE FOR ILLEGAL CHECKPOINTS

Proner & Proner, Attorneys at law, has filed a Federal class action lawsuit in the Federal Court for the Northern District of New York against the New York State Police as well as New York State and county authorities to stop them from conducting motorcycle-only roadblocks near popular motorcycle events.

Last year the New York State Police and county sheriffs stopped every motorcycle en route to twelve different events for “safety checks.” With the riding season starting, the New York State Police expect to conduct up to fifteen motorcycle-only roadblocks throughout the state this year.

One of the events targeted was Americade, the largest motorcycle event in the Northeast. Police set up two checkpoints during the Lake George-based rally in June that netted 84 tickets for unapproved helmets, 19 for modified exhausts and 32 other vehicle and traffic violations.

New York A.I.M. (Aid to Injured Motorcyclists) Attorney Mitchell Proner, an active motorcyclist and personal injury attorney, is initiating the lawsuit on behalf of all motorcyclists. ABATE of New York supports the legal action.

Proner said that the New York State Police “uses the pretense of safety inspections to delay and harass motorcyclists without any reasonable belief that any laws are being broken.” Although courts have upheld DWI checkpoints as generally permissible, “These motorcycle roadblock stops are lengthy and do not address any legitimate safety concerns,” according to Proner.

MYRTLE BEACH HELMET LAW LAWSUIT UPDATE

Following is an update from Matt Danielson of Tom McGrath?s Motorcycle Law Group regarding the lawsuit filed against the helmet law enacted by the city council of Myrtle Beach, SC.

?Forty-nine of the motorcyclists who took part in the Myrtle Beach Freedom Ride and who were ticketed for violations have had their cases stayed yesterday. A.I.M. Attorney Tom McGrath filed motions to have the cases dismissed due to lack of jurisdiction. The original city ordinance mandated that the violations, which are civil in nature, be heard by a special tribunal created by the city. However, since that time the tribunals have been found to be unconstitutional (or at least suggested to be by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of South Carolina). The city moved the cases to municipal court. However, the State Code of South Carolina specifically states that the municipal courts do not have jurisdiction over civil matters. Since the city served the 49 defendants via mail after the Chief Justice’s ruling, they were forced to admit that the infractions were civil in nature since you can’t serve a criminal complaint by mail. That put the City of Myrtle Beach in a box since State Code says the municipal courts do not have jurisdiction over civil matters. The court decided to stay the trials of these matters while deciding how to rule. The court has stated that none of the defendants need to appear on the scheduled dates. We expect a ruling soon. In the meantime, motions have been filed in the South Carolina Supreme Court to declare the ordinances void. More information will be forthcoming as it is made available.?

PENNSYLVANIA SENATOR WANTS TO GIVE YOU $4,500 TO BUY A NEW MOTORCYCLE

U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), a longtime advocate for the Harley-Davidson Motor Co., has introduced legislation that would provide up to $4,500 for motorcycle buyers who trade in an older, gas guzzling car or truck.

Harley has its largest assembly plant in York, Pa., where it employs more than 2,000 people. Recently, the company said it might close its York operations due to the downturn in the economy and falling motorcycle sales.

Senator Casey wants his proposal attached to the “cash for clunkers” mpg higher than the old vehicle. mpg. The voucher would be worth $4,500 if the gas mileage of the new car is at least 10 miles per gallon, and the new vehicle must get at least 22 billion. To be eligible, a trade-in car must get less than 18 bill passed recently in the U.S. House of Representatives. It authorizes the program for one year, for a total cost of $4

Casey said his legislation would help spur economic recovery and protect manufacturing jobs in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and other states where motorcycles and bike parts are manufactured and assembled.

New motorcycle sales in the United States fell 8% in 2007 and 10% in 2008.

The proposal “is positive from our perspective,” said Harley spokeswoman Rebecca Bortner, adding that swapping an old car for a bike would be an easy upgrade in fuel efficiency.

BILL MAY BAN BIKER BARS

Revving up for a fight, motorcycle clubs in Virginia say they are being unfairly targeted by the state?s ABC Board for what they wear. Motorcyclists who recently rallied at a Richmond Public Safety meeting say they are trying to appeal to Richmond City Council members to repeal a new State law.

Alcohol Beverage Control; a bill saying that bars and restaurants could be stripped of their liquor license by allowing groups into their establishments who wear certain gang affiliations or colors. Although aimed at criminal street gangs, motorcyclists say they are victims of this new law and that their First Amendment rights are being violated.

BIKERNET.COM CREATES WORKING GROUP FOR MOTORCYCLE RIGHTS

Longtime bikers rights activist Keith R. Ball and the staff of Bikernet.com are working with the motorcycle aftermarket to provide a direct link between legislative efforts, motorcycle rights groups, and the custom motorcycle aftermarket industry.

“It’s been a goal of mine for 15 years to get the business side to help our freedom fighters,” said Ball. If successful, Keith hopes to encourage SEMA (the Specialty Equipment Market Association), the largest hot rod aftermarket organization in the United States, to work with us to deliver additional resources to the motorcycle rights community, since we all face similar battles.

“The Motorcycle Aftermarket Working Group is made up of many leaders and business owners, but we want to reach out directly to state motorcycle rights groups for their input,” said Ball, adding that they are already working closely with the National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM) and the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF). “What can we do to help keep motorcycling free?” The group is currently working on an agenda, so contact Keith Ball directly with any comments or suggestions at Bandit@Bikernet.com or (310) 830-0630.

FEDS QUESTION BIKERS

The Federal Highway Administration?s Motorcyclist Advisory Council is asking riders across the country to help state and federal highway administrators and State Motorcycle Safety Administrators (SMSA) to ?better understand and plan for the needs of motorcycle riders.?

Motorcycle riders are requested to complete a Motorcycle Road Issues Survey by logging onto http://tinyurl.com/ovzduo before August 1st and answering online survey questions that are separated into 3 distinct settings typically experienced by the majority of riders: Urban Areas (city/suburban/frequent intersections/pedestrians); Rural Areas (fewer intersections/higher speed); and Limited Access Areas (freeway/highway/toll road/minimal intersections).

I can feel the summer raging ahead, as more bike features show up, more events, more girls, more shows, you name it. The cool bobbed Triumph above belongs to one of the ChopperTown/Brittown producers, Scott. Zack and Scott’s new DVD, “Harbortown,” will be released shortly, and of course Bikernet will review it. We just watched the Fryed Brother “I ride.” We also watched Michael Madsen in “Hell Ride.” That’s an acid trip. I’ll bring you more on both shows in the near future.

Hopefully next week, the Chance book will edge toward the printer. I’ll be able to put together a major Factory Racer tech installation article and get ready for the paint to arrive. Then we’ll see how well I prepped for the final assembly. Hang on.

In the meantime the Father’s Day party is scheduled for Century Motors in San Pedro. We will gather with Vincent owners from all over the Southland. Darryl Worley To Host “Hitmakers & Harleys” Event–Country music star Darryl Worley is set to host his second songwriter event this year, “Hitmakers & Harleys,” to benefit his Darryl Worley Foundation. Joining Darryl at the Bumpus Harley-Davidson dealership in Murfreesboro, TN on Monday, July 13, 2009 will be hit songwriters Walt Aldridge, Jim “Moose” Brown and Steve Leslie.

“This is a fun event, because it give folks who don’t normally see songwriters perform their hits the chance to hear stories behind the songs and hear them performed as they were originally written,” said Darryl. “If it’s anything like the others we’ve done, there’ll be as much laughing going on as music!”

A partial list of Top 10 hits written or co-written by Walt Aldridge includes Heartland’s “I Loved Her First,” Ronnie Milsap’s “No Getting’ Over Me” and Ricky Van Shelton’s smash “Crime of Passion.” He has produced, engineered or been a musician for everyone from Peter Cetera and Dobie Gray to Martina McBride and Jo Dee Messina.

Jim “Moose” Brown is best known for his Grammy Award-winning song “It’s Five O’clock Somewhere,” which was recorded by Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett. He also co-produced Darryl’s upcoming album Sounds Like Life, which hits stores June 9, 2009.

Steve Leslie is proud to have his name attached to no less than 20 Darryl Worley songs including “Second Wind,” “Back Where I Belong,” “Tennessee River Run” and more. He has also had songs cut by the likes of Kenny Rogers, George Strait, Neal McCoy, Rhonda Vincent and Mark Chesnutt.

Tickets for the event are very limited. Tables in the Golden Circle Seating area are $1500 and include dinner, drinks and a meet and greet with the songwriters. Corporate Tables include dinner and drinks are $900, and individual seating for dinner only is $75 per person. Reservations must be made by calling 615-849-8025 or www.darrylworley.com.

Doors for the event, which is located at 2250 Broad Street in Murfreesboro, open at 6:30 p.m., and the show begins at 7:00 p.m. A live auction will include such items as a Les Paul Guitar signed by all of the songwriters, a football autographed by Tennessee Titans quarterback Kerry Collins and limited-edition Harley-Davidson items.

This is the fourth such songwriter event Darryl has hosted for his Darryl Worley Foundation. Last month’s “Hitmakers on the Harbor” on Pickwick Lake raised over $12,000. The next event is scheduled at Bumpus Harley-Davidson’s Jackson, TN location on July 21, 2009. The final event will take place during Darryl’s Tennessee River Run on Thursday, September 10, 2009. Details on all events can be found at www.darrylworley.com. Darryl is currently touring in support of his new hit single, “Sounds Like Life To Me.” His new Stroudavarious Records album, Sounds Like Life, is in stores now. Stroudavarious and Country Crossing are a division of Ronnie Gilley Entertainment.

In addition, the Darryl Worley Foundation, Inc. helps fund and support the newly created Darryl Worley Cancer Treatment Center

HEALTH CARE DEBATE FROM SEMA–Lawmakers are seeking to enact legislation into law in 2009 that would fundamentally reform how Americans access the nation?s health care system. A number of Congressional Committees are now tackling the tough job of writing the legislation this summer, with a goal of completing action in both the House and Senate this fall. SEMA is taking this opportunity to identify some of the major issues being debated.

Overview

Two national problems have stoked the political pressure for reform. First, about 46 million Americans have no health insurance, either because their employer does not offer coverage, they are unemployed and cannot afford an individual plan, or they simply choose to remain uninsured. An individual who is uninsured may actually impose a higher cost on the health care system than someone who has coverage since the uninsured usually forego preventive medicine and may ultimately end up in the emergency room where treatment costs are at a premium.

Second, health care premiums for small firms have skyrocketed about 113% over the past 10 years. An estimated 27 million small-business owners, employees and dependents are now uninsured. Additionally, small businesses pay an average of 18% more in health insurance premiums for the same benefits provided to large businesses.

Big Dog Motorcycles Teams With SKILSAW–Big Dog Motorcycles, the leading manufacturer of high performance, high style motorcycles, is pleased to announce its 2009 K-9 has been selected as the grand prize in SKIL’s? Worm Drive Challenge. The motorcycle, custom painted for the contest, will be awarded to the person who shows the best use of the power tool company’s popular saw while working on a construction job site or remodeling around the house.

?Big Dog Motorcycles is the leading brand in the high performance V-twin industry,? described Paul Hansen, Marketing Director. ?Growing our brand is due largely in part to a certain customer: contractors and construction workers. Teaming with SKILSAW not only adds excitement to their contest, but brings our bikes directly in front of this key buyer, who is particularly attracted to the boldly designed K-9. It’s a perfect partnership.?

The contest, which runs through August 1, 2009, is being promoted nationwide through print advertising in leading contractor and targeted consumer publications; targeted e-mail databases; in-store materials for home improvement and contract supply stores; several events, including NASCAR races; and the contest’s website www.SKILWormDriveChallenge.com.

To enter the contest, participants submit their story of their construction challenge with photos through the website or the mail. Entries are based on the project’s difficultly, solution creativity, and overall success.

The grand prize K-9 comes complete with award-winning styling; 117 c.i. electronically fuel injected, fully-polished engine; 6-speed BDM Balance Drive; super fat 300mm rear tire; hidden shock suspension; chrome upgrades; custom embroidered seat; and hand-painted custom paint and graphics. A subtle SKIL logo and airbrushed silver saw blades that complement the realistic flames promotes SKIL’s brand image while showcasing the individual touch Big Dog Motorcycles brings to all its bikes.

?The 2009 K-9 is a well-balanced, well-designed machine,? Hansen added. ?It shows that with each new year, we set higher standards for high performance, high style machines while at the same time making the bike a blast to ride. In the end, it takes the winner of SKIL’s Worm Drive Challenge from on top of a house, barn, shed, or deck to on top of the world.?

Isle of Mann

TTXGP race “changed the world”The world’s first clean emission motorcycle Grand Prix took place on 12 June around the world-famous TT course on the Isle of Man– The cost-unlimited Pro3A Class was won by Rob Barber on an U.K./Indian-built Agni X01, which recorded an average speed of over 87 mph around the circuit. The German XXL Racing team, led by Thomas Schoenfelder, came second and Brammo’s Mark Buckley came third. The Open Class was won by Chris Heath on an Electric Motorsport machine.

TTXGP event promoter Azhar Hussain said: “We’ve really changed the world today – and I thank the Isle of Man for allowing us to do it.”The high performance electric bikes were entered from all around the world and included machines from Germany, the U.S., India, the U.K. and a number of universities worldwide.

Most advanced in production terms are the U.S. bikes. Mission Motors of California raced the Mission One, a prototype of an actual road-going machine. The company’s Jeremy Cleland said: “The design is completely in-house apart from the forks and the Ohlins suspension. We hope to produce 300 of these bikes next year.”

Oregon-based Brammo, meanwhile, entered two bikes in the Pro3A class, also hoping to use the TTXGP race for fine tuning purposes prior to launching it for sale to the public. Brian Wismann, Brammo’s Director of Product Development, said: “This is the toughest and best course to develop a product for the mass market.”

Next year’s event will be two laps long, with a pit stop to change batteries, and will also feature electric cars.

The organizers have announced that the eGrandPrix concept will also be staged in the United States. The first such event will take place at the Mid-Ohio circuit (Lexington, Ohio) during the Vintage Motorcycle Days festival on July 23/24.www.ttxgp.com

A POEM ABOUT THE CODE DISCOVERED IN AUSTRALIA– I look forward to getting my Bikernet fix twice a week! I was a fan back in the old days of Easyriders.Today I was looking for the ownership papers for my vintage Indian Scout and found this handwritten poem ( Author unknown) along with a typed letter to my father from the High School Principal after I was arrested in a local pool hall while on study leave. Ha!

Anyway, feel free to publish it if you like it……. it sorta seems appropriate in these increasingly oppressive times.

They call it “Brotherhood”, an alliance of men,
Those who stick together from beginning to end,
But it seems to me that somewhere we’ve failed,
For the bonds have been broken and the system prevails,

There are those that are true, those who love to ride,
Who practice the brotherhood and gain from the pride,
They are the righteous, with all that it means,
All men are brothers who ride these machines,

Some run as loners, others in packs,
Some ride as clubs, flying colours on their backs.
There are one-percenters and dirt riders too-
Tell me my friend, are they different from you?

Ask this of yourself; for what do I ride?
The answers the same for those who have died.
It’s not only the bike that makes the man,
Or the patch that he flies, or the ring on his hand.

It’s not the direction he chooses or the path that he takes,
Nor the course that he follows, or the friends that he makes.
It’s true all these things may be different in men,
But when talk is of brotherhood, what of it then?

Well it’s something shared between us, you see,
For we all ride in common, we all ride to be free!

SHASTA SALUTE TO AMERICA UPDATE– A couple nights ago, Wings ?n me rode from Tulelake to Doris on Hwy 161 to get pizza & steaks. Hwy 161 is the 2 lane road that runs right through the middle of the Lower Klamath Refuge. It was 75 degrees at 6:pm. The fields everywhere are full of perfect emerald green alfalfa. As we rode down the highway, we saw plenty of wildlife on the move – ducks, pheasants, a bald eagle with a fish in its talons, hunting hawks & a doe were seen.

When we got to Hwy 97, we turned left, up the hill & down into some of the most beautiful Oregon bottom land ya ever saw. Dinner was excellent – fresh baked pizza, monster rib eye steaks washed down with fresh brewed ice tea for Wings & a big mug ?o col beer for me.

Wings saw their ice cream & she just had to tell me about the ?Cascade Glacier Bear Claw? ice cream ? had to have that, too (Gato Gordo). One of the owners was on duty. She talked to us about how proud she was to have served our country during the Nam years. Her job had been keeping track of the comings & goings of 100s of thousands of American soldiers serving in Nam ? said she enlisted right after graduating high school.

We thanked her for her service to America. She beamed & said, ?Thank you for saying that to me.? Earlier that day, her sis called me to ask if it was too late to become a SS2AMCR sponsor. The same gal told us how much she appreciated the patriotic theme of our event & AVTT coming to their region. Looking out the window & across the street, is Bar40. Another “Bikers Welcome” banner had been hung. Cool!

After the great meal (about $34 including tip), we rode home on the same route. It was still light out. It’s stayin light out up here ’til 9pm. It’s all about the ride everyone. It gets chilly here at night; so bring a warm sleeping bag.

chuckberry

Rock icon Chuck Berry to perform at the Legendary Buffalo Chip–In what he described as one of the most significant events since the Buffalo Chip?s first party in 1982, campground owner Rod Woodruff said Chuck Berry’s performance at the Sturgis Rally campground will be historical. Berry will perform at the Chip on Saturday, Aug. 1 as part of the Chip?s Classic Rock 3-Day Weekend to kick off the rally.

?There have been a lot of discussions about where rock came from. The truth is that it came from Chuck Berry?s crazy idea that you could mix the blues with country influences and get something that moves people. It?s called rock. And Chuck Berry invented it,? said Woodruff. ?We are honored ? humbled ? to have this giant coming to our stage.?

Because white audiences were Country-Western fans, they began to take notice. At the same time Berry?s stage show antics were drawing attention. He was bringing blacks and whites together at a time when it was unheard of.

In 1955 while on a road trip to Chicago, Berry had the opportunity to meet his idol, Muddy Waters who directed him to Chess Records in Chicago where Howlin? Wolf and Bo Diddley recorded. He auditioned with a song that became ?Maybellene.? The rest is rock history.

The hits followed with ?Brown-Eyed Man,? ?Too Much Monkey Business,? ?Memphis,? ?Roll Over, Beethoven!? and ?Johnny B. Goode.?

chuckberry

Berry?s rock masterpiece, ?Johnny B. Goode? is the only rock song chosen to be included on the gold record NASA sent into space on the Voyager Spacecraft. That record has him in the company of Bach, Beethoven, Mozart and Stravinsky.

Berry?s music has inspired and been covered by the elite of rock history, including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, ACDC, Count Basie and The Byrds among many others.

Woodruff said the Chuck Berry performance will be among the most important ever at the Buffalo Chip. ?We?ve been so blessed with continued growth that it has now become possible for artists like Mr. Berry to take notice and have a desire to play for a crowd so appreciative that the entire music industry has heard about us. We?re about the party and nobody defines party like Chuck Berry. We all know all the words to all those history-making songs and now we?ll be able to sing them right along with him. John Lennon probably described the Chuck Berry phenomenon best when he said, ?If you tried to give rock and roll another name, you might call it ?Chuck Berry?.??

For the Chip?s Classic Rock 3-Day Weekend includes on Friday, July 31, Mark Farner, formerly of Grand Funk Railroad, Rare Earth?s Peter Rivera, Sugarloaf?s Jerry Corbetta and Iron Butterfly and Blues Image guitarist and singer Mike Pinera, and on Sunday, Aug. 2 George Thorogood and the Destroyers and Creedence Clearwater Revisited.

Other acts booked at the Buffalo Chip include: Aerosmith, Toby Keith, Cheech & Chong, Tesla, Hinder, Buckcherry, Lita Ford, Billy Squier and The Guess Who. Information and tickets are available at: BuffaloChip.com.

Brooksville City Council’s underwear rule rankles Keith Olbermann– BROOKSVILLE ? Keith Olbermann’s nightly “Worst Persons in the World” segment on his MSNBC show usually targets conservative commentators such as Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly. On Monday night’s broadcast of Countdown, the seat of dishonor belonged to the Brooksville City Council.

Olbermann took the council to task for passing a dress code for city employees that he felt went too far into personal space. As detailed Sunday in a St. Petersburg Times story, the new policy dictates that employees use deodorant, keep their tattoos and wounds covered, do not wear spandex or revealing clothing, and only wear piercings in their ears. Oh, and they must wear underwear.

The last part got under Olbermann’s skin. Quoting the Times story’s references to Mayor Joe Bernardini’s questions about who will monitor compliance with the skivvies’ rule, Olbermann compared the council to the character Woody Allen played in his 1971 movie Bananas. In it, Fielding Mellish, president of the fictional country of San Marcos, decrees that everyone must change their underwear every half-hour and so they must wear their underwear outside of their clothing.

sidecarinsnow
He rode to work…

THE UNCLE MONKEY DOCTRINE–Riding to work. It is something many of us take for granted. For many a motorcycle is their only mode of transportation during the riding season.

I’ve been guilty of not riding to work. I will justify it by saying it was out of politeness to my neighbors more then anything. I only run unbaffled drag pipes on my Harleys and I had two RCMPs, one city police, one Air Force, and a city councilmen surrounding me as neighbors and with my shift started at 5 am I stayed quiet and they left me alone. Now that I’ve started a different job and work at a normal hour I don’t hesitate to ride to work.

Most of my friends ride to work as well whether they are Lawyers, Pharmacists, bankers, or truck drivers, electricians, and farmers. A motorcycle in the parking lot seems to draw people in. People like to point out that they ride or have ridden or have a close relative that does. Our co-workers quiz us on what events are coming up, where they can sit and watch motorcycles ride by at toy runs.

But for others their motorcycle is only brought out in the evening or on weekends. Not that it is necessarily a bad thing. They cherish the comradely of riding and sharing the road. They like it when people approach them at the gas station and ask them about their bike. They like it when they walking into a business and people give them a little extra respect. But they want to keep their “biker” persona separate from their professional life.

In this given day of skyrocketing fuel prices, increasing pollution and the movement towards being environmental conscious, it is strange that more people don’t ride to work. It seems that North America is lagging far behind the rest of the world when it comes to this trend. In most of Europe and Asia motorcycles, scooters, and mopeds are THEE way to get to work. If you stop and think of the number of bikes that the typical SUV displaces on the highway or in a parking lot it would seem the logical choice.

We were asked to ride to work on June 15 as part of Ride To Work Day. Many of us did either out of habit or out of support. But not everyone. If you missed out it is not too late. Ride to work today, ride tomorrow, or circulate a memo at your work asking everyone to ride on a certain day. You will be surprised to see how many of your co-workers ride, and how many new friends you will make.

lifestyle-cleared

LifeStyle Cycles cleared by Jury in Wrongful Death lawsuit!–The justice system does work! In April of 2006, a lawsuit was filed against LifeStyle Cycles claiming that LifeStyle Cycles and its owner, Mark ?Junior? Skolnick who was added later on, were liable for the wrongful death and personal injuries arising out of a fatal motorcycle accident, involving a DUI driver on Ortega Highway in June 2005. As many motorcycle riders know, Ortega highway is a very dangerous stretch of road in Southern California.

Eric Dubin (from the infamous Robert Blake civil trial) represented Sheryl Suglia (Mother of rock stars A Jay and Jeremy Popoff of the 90?s rock band Lit) who was suing for the death of her husband and for her own personal injuries arising out of the accident. Dubin alleged that LifeStyle Cycles was directly responsible and contributed to Mr. Suglia?s death and Mrs. Suglia?s personal injuries because in 2002 LifeStyle Cycles sold the helmets the Suglias were wearing at the time of the accident, and the helmets had been the subject of a post-sale manufacturer recall.

The case began in Riverside County on May 11th, 2009 and continued through June 8th, 2009. After a very short deliberation, the jury came to the unanimous decision that LifeStyle Cycles and Mark ?Junior? Skolnick were in no way, shape or form or, to any degree or percentage responsible for the death of the plaintiff?s husband or her personal injuries.

?Even though it was a tragic DUI accident, all of us are relived at the outcome.? Said Mark ?Junior? Skolnick, Owner of LifeStyle Cycles. ?This lawsuit was against the wrong defendants and was just another attack on the Motorcycle retail Industry. This victory is monumental in protecting the small business dealer!?

LifeStyle Cycles operates out of Anaheim, California, is open 7 days a week and can be reached at (714) 490-0155. You can also visit them on the web at www.lifestylecycles.com.

The head pipe flows into the 2.25? expansion chamber with a removable baffle. The one-piece heat-shield protects the rider and enables easy installation.

The chrome end caps contrasting with the black ceramic pipe make the chrome really pop. Standard Mean Mothers end caps are included.

H.O.G. SETS FIVE MILLION MILE MONDAY GOAL–Members Will Band Together to Ride on June 29.

MILWAUKEE ? (June 16, 2009) On Monday, June 29, 2009, Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) members around the world will band together in a singular challenge, to log a cumulative five million riding miles by the day?s end.

Following the phenomenal success of last year?s inaugural Million Mile Monday, which tripled the original goal of one million miles ridden by H.O.G. members to 3,000,960 miles, the goal for this year?s ride on June 29 has been stretched to five million miles.

?The response we got from our members to Million Mile Monday blew us away, so we asked members what should be our goal this year? The resounding answer was five million,? said Benny Suggs, General Manager of the Harley Owner?s Group. ?Many of our members will be returning home from the CLUB H.O.G. OKC rally in Oklahoma City on that Monday, so we expect a big turnout this year, but more important than the number of miles ridden is for all our members to simply get out and ride somewhere on Monday, June 29. Whether it?s 20 miles, 100 miles, 500 miles, or more, the important thing is to get on your bike and go.?

H.O.G.?s annual Million Mile Monday ride occurs on the last Monday of June and is open to all H.O.G. members– riders or passengers. The feat will be recorded by logging into the club?s exclusive members-only website (members.hog.com), where participants can register their miles ridden on that day. All miles must be entered by 12 p.m. (Noon) Central on June 30, 2009.

Mexico

MEXICO, COCAINE HIDDEN HI SHARKS– The Mexican Navy says it has seized more than a tonne of cocaine hidden inside the carcasses of frozen sharks.Armed officers found slabs of cocaine inside more than 20 sharks aboard a freight ship in the Gulf coast port of Progreso in Yucatan state.Correspondents say cartels are coming up with increasingly creative ways of smuggling drugs into the US.

Shipments of cocaine have also been discovered hidden inside sealed beer cans, religious statues and furniture.

“We are talking about more than a tonne of cocaine that was inside the ship,” said Mexican Navy Commander Eduardo Villa. He said X-ray machines and sniffer dogs had helped to uncover the haul.

“Those in charge of the shipment said it was a conserving agent but after checks we confirmed it was cocaine,” he said.

Methamphetamine

In another development on Tuesday, the Mexican Navy unveiled what it described as one of the largest methamphetamine labs ever found in the country.

When officers stumbled across the enormous holding tank in a remote part of the northern state of Sinaloa last week they thought it might be used to water a marijuana plantation.Instead, the tank fed water into two enormous sheds where investigators found 12,905 gallons (49,640 litres) of ephedrine, a chemical used to make methamphetamine.

Officials said it was enough to produce 40.2 tonnes of the drug, or about 309 million individual doses.

So far this year more than 2,700 people have died in drug-related violence in Mexico. Last year about 6,300 were killed.Mexican President Felipe Calderon has committed some 45,000 troops and federal police to try to crush the country’s powerful cartels.

KRAWIEC RACES V-ROD TO NHRA FINALS AT ENGLISHTOWN–Krawiec Builds Lead in Pro Stock Motorcycle Series, Hines Holds Down Third Place.

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (June 14, 2009) – Screamin’ Eagle(r)/Vance & Hines rider Eddie Krawiec raced a Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle V-Rod(r) to the final round of Pro Stock Motorcycle eliminations at the United Association NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park. Making his fourth consecutive final-round appearance, Krawiec lost to Craig Treble but added to his overall lead in the Full Throttle Pro Stock Motorcycle series, and tops the division by 76 points.

Krawiec qualified fourth for the event with a run of 7.011 seconds, just ahead of Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines rider Andrew Hines at 7.012. Hector Arana was the quickest qualifier with a run of 6.965 seconds..

Hines opened Sunday eliminations with a win over Stone Mountain/Granite Mountain Harley-Davidson rider Junior Pippin. Krawiec defeated Suzuki rider Wesley Wells in the first round, and for the second week in a row faced Hines before the final round as the teammates lined up in round two. Krawiec prevailed with a 6.994-second run to best the 7.051 of Hines. Krawiec then used a 6.954 run to beat Rum Bum Buell rider Bailey Whitaker (7.193) to advance and face Treble on the Team Scream Suzuki in the final round. Treble won with an outstanding 0.007 reaction time and a 6.955 elapsed time, as Krawiec left the line in 0.061 seconds and could not make up the difference despite his quicker 6.906 ET, his best of the day.

“You had better bring a great reaction time when you line up against Craig Treble,” said Krawiec, who is the defending NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle champion. “Mine was not terrible but not enough to get it done, so it’s disappointing to lose after putting up a great ET. I’m happy we were able to gather more data about both of the Screamin’ Eagle V-Rod bikes and how the additional twenty pounds is affecting our race bikes this weekend.”

Hines said both Screamin’ Eagle V-Rod motorcycles are working well off the starting line.

“These are the same engines we ran last weekend in Chicago, and I think we are getting closer on a new tune-up to accommodate the 20-pound heavier minimum weight for our bikes,” said Hines. “We are really strong in the first 60 feet, so we are getting some ET back there. Now we’ve got two weeks off, so we’ll get back to the shop and tear everything down and see if there are any surprises inside.”

After six events on the 17-race 2009 NHRA Full Throttle Pro Stock Motorcycle schedule, Krawiec leads the series with 528 points. NitroFish Buell rider Matt Smith moves up to second place with 452 points, while Hines drops to third with 436 points. Treble is fourth with 427 points.

The next event on the 2009 NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle schedule is the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals, June 25-28 at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.

The Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines Pro Stock Motorcycle team is sponsored by Matco Tools, Dunlop and S100.

DRUG WAR LOST AFTER 40 YEARS AND BILLIONS SPENT, LIVES RUINED, AND MANY KILLED– This year marks the 40th anniversary of President Richard Nixon?s start of the war on drugs, and it now appears that drugs have won.

?We?ve spent a trillion dollars prosecuting the war on drugs,? Norm Stamper, a former police chief of Seattle, told me. ?What do we have to show for it? Drugs are more readily available, at lower prices and higher levels of potency. It?s a dismal failure.?

For that reason, he favors legalization of drugs, perhaps by the equivalent of state liquor stores or registered pharmacists. Other experts favor keeping drug production and sales illegal but decriminalizing possession, as some foreign countries have done.

Here in the United States, four decades of drug war have had three consequences:First, we have vastly increased the proportion of our population in prisons. The United States now incarcerates people at a rate nearly five times the world average. In part, that?s because the number of people in prison for drug offenses rose roughly from 41,000 in 1980 to 500,000 today. Until the war on drugs, our incarceration rate was roughly the same as that of other countries.

Second, we have empowered criminals at home and terrorists abroad. One reason many prominent economists have favored easing drug laws is that interdiction raises prices, which increases profit margins for everyone, from the Latin drug cartels to the Taliban. Former presidents of Mexico, Brazil and Colombia this year jointly implored the United States to adopt a new approach to narcotics, based on the public health campaign against tobacco.

Third, we have squandered resources. Jeffrey Miron, a Harvard economist, found that federal, state and local governments spend $44.1 billion annually enforcing drug prohibitions. We spend seven times as much on drug interdiction, policing and imprisonment as on treatment. (Of people with drug problems in state prisons, only 14 percent get treatment.)

I?ve seen lives destroyed by drugs, and many neighbors in my hometown of Yamhill, Oregon, have had their lives ripped apart by crystal meth. Yet I find people like Mr. Stamper persuasive when they argue that if our aim is to reduce the influence of harmful drugs, we can do better.Mr. Stamper is active in Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, or LEAP, an organization of police officers, prosecutors, judges and citizens who favor a dramatic liberalization of American drug laws. He said he gradually became disillusioned with the drug war, beginning in 1967 when he was a young beat officer in San Diego.

?I had arrested a 19-year-old, in his own home, for possession of marijuana,? he recalled. ?I literally broke down the door, on the basis of probable cause. I took him to jail on a felony charge.? The arrest and related paperwork took several hours, and Mr. Stamper suddenly had an ?aha!? moment: ?I could be doing real police work.?

It?s now broadly acknowledged that the drug war approach has failed. President Obama?s new drug czar, Gil Kerlikowske, told the Wall Street Journal that he wants to banish the war on drugs phraseology, while shifting more toward treatment over imprisonment.

?Our nation?s broken drug policies are just one reason why we must re-examine the entire criminal justice system,? Mr. Webb says. That?s a brave position for a politician, and it?s the kind of leadership that we need as we grope toward a more effective strategy against narcotics in America.

Browns’ Donte Stallworth pleads guilty to DUI manslaughter; gets 30 days in jail

EMERGENCY BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER FINDINGS, SAVE THE DAY–3 Ways to Treat ED.Erectile dysfunction (ED), the inability to achieve or maintain erections sufficient for intercourse, often has a psychological component, and counseling is encouraged as a primary treatment strategy.

However, ED can also be a symptom of cardiovascular disease and diabetes, both of which can impair blood supply to the penis. In addition to lifestyle measures such as checking your medications, maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding alcohol and smoking, and managing stress levels, I recommend the following herbs to help address ED:

Ginkgo. This herb may improve arousal in both men and women, perhaps by increasing blood flow to the genitals. It should not be used by those on blood thinners such as coumadin.

Ashwaganda. From the roots of a plant in the nightshade family called Withania somnifera, ashwaganda is reputed to be a mild aphrodisiac and has long been popular in India. Ashwaganda is generally safe – follow the dosage on the package, and give it six or eight weeks to have an effect.

Standardized extract of Asian ginseng. Asian ginseng, or Panax ginseng, is a good general stimulant and sexual energizer. Asian ginseng is considered safe but can raise blood pressure and cause irritability and insomnia in some people. Follow the dosage on the package, and give it a six or eight week trial to see what it can do.

AMDwinner
Anders G?th followed up his 7th place in the European Championship with winning the Scandinavian Championship at Twin Club MC’s Custom Bike Show

G?th takes Scandinavian Championship in Norrt?lje, SwedenTwin Club MC’s 35th annual Custom Bike Show, one of the World Championship’s oldest Affiliate events, defied poor weather forecasts (and the recession) to pull healthy crowds and, as usual, a good standard of custom bike originality and variety–After finishing seventh in this year’s European Championship, and narrowly missing out on World Championship prize money with a 3rd place at Norrt?lje last year, the winner was Anders G?th, of Sk?rblacka in Sweden, whose 113 inch Ultima engined 6-speed springer rigid has won him a 5.000,00 euro expenses contribution towards competing at this year’s 6th annual Official World Championship at Sturgis from August 2nd to 5th.

Second place was taken by Andreas Jarledal, Peder Johansson’s partner in their internationally respected HogTech business in Sweden, with a classic and detail-rich chopper named “It’s a Chopper Babe” in homage to Bruce Willis’s famous remark in Pulp Fiction.

Third place was taken by Micke Jonssen of Sweden for an S&S Panhead style engined and Goldammer front-end hybrid that combined old-school styling with very contemporary thinking, an approach that is very much in keeping with the styling diversity and freestyle thinking that is at the heart of the World and European Championship program.

Andreas and Micke won expenses contributions to compete at the next (2010) Official European Championship of Custom Bike Building (at the Custom Chrome Europe Dealer Show) in Germany in March next year.

As ever we’d like to express our thanks to Twin Club MC (celebrating their 40th anniversary this year) for their generosity in putting up the prize monies and in collaboration with the City of Norrt?lje, Sweden, staging an outstanding event. We’d also like to recognize Custom Chrome Europe and Motorcycle Storehouse for their generosity in supporting the event with parts and accessory contingency prizes for the class winners.

Our thanks also go to John Lilleg?rd of Norway, Martin Domeij of Sweden, Uffe Karlsson of Twin Club in Sweden and Germany’s Horst ‘MotoGrapher’ R?sler for providing experienced, independent and international perspective in undertaking World Championship Affiliate event judging duties.

AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION AND BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER BOARD OF DIRECTORS SPEAK OUT AGAINST ECONOMIC STIMULUS PACKAGE– Apparently the American Medical Association has weighed in on the new economic stimulus package: The Allergists voted to scratch it, but the Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves.

The Gastroenterologists had sort of a gut feeling about it but the Neurologists thought the Administration had a lot of nerve.

The Obstetricians felt they were all laboring under a misconception. Ophthalmologists considered the idea shortsighted.

Pathologists yelled, “Over my dead body!” while the Pediatricians said, ‘Oh, Grow up!’

The Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness, while the Radiologists could see right through it.

Surgeons decided to wash their hands of the whole thing. The Internists thought it was a bitter pill to swallow, and the Plastic Surgeons said, “This puts a whole new face on the matter.”

The Podiatrists thought it was a step forward, but the Urologists were pissed off at the whole idea. The Anesthesiologists thought the whole idea was a gas and the Cardiologists didn’t have the heart to say no.

In the end, the Proctologists won out, leaving the entire decision up to the assholes in Washington.

THE CODE OF THE 7%ER–Written By Regina Brett, 90 years old, of The Plain Dealer, Cleveland , Ohio.

“To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most-requested column I’ve ever written.”

My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:

1. Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
4. Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
6. You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
7. Cry with someone. It’s more healing than crying alone.
8. It’s OK to get angry with God. He can take it.

BIKERNET.COM CREATES WORKING GROUP FOR MOTORCYCLE RIGHTS–Keith R.

If successful, Keith hopes to encourage SEMA, the largest hot rod aftermarket organization in the United States, to work with us to deliver additional resources to the motorcycle rights community, since we face similar battles.

“The Motorcycle Aftermarket Working Group is made up of many leaders and business owners, but we want to reach out directly to state motorcycle rights groups for their input,” said Ball, adding that his newly-formed organization is already working directly with both the National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM) and the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF). “What can we do to help keep motorcycling free?”

They are currently working on an agenda, so contact Keith Ball directly at Bandit@Bikernet.com or (310) 830-0630.

BIKERNET SUPPORT FEMA EFFORTS IN EUROPE– We would like to thank you very much for your support to the work of FEMA. As guardrails standards have the potential to benefit (or harm, sadly) motorcyclists worldwide, we are glad to see that our efforts reach riders across the Atlantic! I also aopologize for the time it took me to reply to your message: with the European Elections last week, we have been very busy at the office.

There are many ways in which you can support the work of FEMA; on guardrails and on other issues. As a citizens? organization, FEMA does not receive support from governments and 95% of its budget comes from the riders? pockets; through member associations and clubs. Around 5% of FEMA?s budget comes from other sources; sponsors and corporate partners.

Our sponsors contribute in a variety of ways; including participation to our FEMA Partner Scheme. If you are interested in supporting FEMA on one of the Federation?s hot topics, whether it is guardrails, road safety, anti-tampering or mobility, our Partner Scheme allows you to contribute on this topic specifically. You will find attached to this message a description of our Partner Scheme, outlining the possibilities available to support our work. Of course, if you wish to support FEMA in its everyday fight for rider?s rights, you may find attached our donation form for corporate partners.

Saddlemanbag inserts

BIKERNET BLISSFUL BBQ RULES SPONSORED BY SADDLEMAN SEATS– We are about to enter the BBQ season. Therefore it is important to refresh your memory on the etiquette of this sublime outdoor cooking activity. When a man volunteers to do the BBQ the following chain of events are put into motion:

(1) The woman buys the food.
(2) The woman makes the salad, prepares the vegetables and makes dessert.
(3) The woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on a tray along with the necessary cooking utensils and sauces, and takes it to the man who is lounging beside the grill – beer in hand.
(4) The woman remains outside the compulsory three metre exclusion zone where the exuberance of testosterone and other manly bonding activities can take place without the interference of the woman.

Here comes the important part:

(5) THE MAN PLACES THE MEAT ON THE GRILL.
(6) The woman goes inside to organize the plates and cutlery.
(7) The woman comes out to tell the man that the meat is looking great. He thanks her and asks if she will bring another beer while he flips the meat.

Important again:

(8) THE MAN TAKES THE MEAT OFF THE GRILL AND HANDS IT TO THE WOMAN.
(9) The woman prepares the plates, salad, bread, utensils, napkins, sauce and brings them to the table.
(10) After eating, the woman clears the table and does the dishes.

And most important of all:

(11) Everyone PRAISES the MAN and THANKS HIM for his cooking efforts.
(12) The man asks the woman how she enjoyed her ‘night off ‘, and, upon seeing her annoyed reaction, concludes that there’s just no pleasing some women.

Harley sign

Controversy surrounds anti-President Obama sign in Jefferson County–JEFFERSON COUNTY, N.Y. — “Does Erik know he’s in the U.S.A.”

“The Obama’s are great people. They’re not cowards like you.”

Some thoughts from callers about a controversial sign off Route 81 near Adams Center as its owner made an appearance on a local Watertown radio show, “the Hotline” hosted by Watertown Mayor Jeff Graham.

“Oh, it’s great radio,” Graham said of Dunk’s appearance. “It makes people think and there’s a lack of that in the country these days. There’s a lack of discerning thought out there. People have been beaten down in terms of opinions.”

Erik Dunk is the man who owns the sign, and the business it sits on, Iron Block Harley Davidson. He says he has every right to not only have the sign, but put facts, comments and questions on it.

A controversy is brewing over a road sign in Jefferson County that displays an anti-President Obama message. And people, either for it or against it, are vocal. Our Brian Dwyer has more on the uproar and the man who’s behind it.

“It’s time for small business and us as men and women of the United States of America, that when we know something is not right, to use whatever means we can to get our message across,” Dunk said.

This particular message is about President Obama’s comments last week prior to a trip to the Middle East where he said, “If you actually took the number of Muslim Americans, we’d be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world.”

Dunk says that’s a flat out misleading statement and wanted to point it out.

“We don’t try to be derogatory,” Dunk said. “We try not to be negative. We try to be positive, but when facts are presented to me where this president made certain statements back in October or November, when he was running for office, he’s changed that stance 180 degrees. I think it’s important that message be out there.”

It’s not the first comment on the sign. He’s been doing it for years. He’s asked the President to show his birth certificate and demanded government stay out of private business.

And while there’s been some outrage over his most recent posting, he says he’s not concerned about it hurting his own business.

“My bottom line is my business is not as important as my patriotism. Like Patrick Henry, give me liberty or give me death,” said Dunk.

Dunk says Harley Davidson did ask him to remove the message, but he told them unless they can find something that’s derogatory or inappropriate, he has no intention to do so.

Dunk says he changes the message every three or four weeks and has an idea what his next will be, but isn’t ready to share that information.

camy white bikernet shirt

ANOTHER LOWER ALABAMA BIKERNET PROMOTION– My husband and I rode Friday, Saturday and today. Friday was hot and dry (except humid) and we did around 175 miles round trip. Now I guess we are getting ready for the trip to Sturgis. Yesterday and today we ran through thunderstorms. One storm with lightening, hail, wind and rain, rain and more rain.

Yesterdays ride was just over 200 miles round trip just riding around Alabama and Georgia. We have a few favorite roads and parks we like to visit when we can. Today we rode to my Mom’s to church and lunch with her, a little over 100 miles round trip. Beautiful weather and ride to her house, then on the way home we hit three thunderstorms. Lots of wind, hard rain but thankfully not as much lightening as yesterday.

We rode through it because there weren’t many other options. Getting under a tree in a lightening storm is NOT the way to go. Drenched like a drowned rats when we got home but we made it home safe and mostly sound. Alabama, Florida and Georgia are having their fair share of harsh weather this year.

Guess we all got spoiled the past three or four years, we had drought conditions going on then. Got to ride almost as much as we wanted. But this year is making up for all that. Oh well, looking on the bright side, at least the farmers are happy.

That’s the news from LA. Hope all is well in your world.

Ride safe!
