BRASS BALLS ROLLS TO A 300,000 MILE WARRANTY ON MODEL 1 & MODEL 1S–Brass Balls Bobbers? Premium Suppliers D&D and BAKER Go Along For the Ride

Darwin Motorcycles, manufacturer of Brass Balls Choppers & Bobbers, announced today that the firm is providing a 300,000 mile / 1 year warranty on their hi-tech minimalist anti-chrome Model 1 and softail-style Model 1S custom-production Bobbers.

Other Brass Balls suppliers that are getting into the economic-stimulus mindset includes exhaust pipe provider D&D Performance Enterprises, which is upping the warranty to 400,000 mile / 1 year and BAKER Drivetrain which is in at 500,000 mile / 1 year. The value-priced Model 1 retails for $15,995 and the softail-style Model 1S comes in at just $1,000 more.

?Motorcycles are a legitimate alternative to reducing costs, reducing carbon footprint and reducing commuting time,? explained Dar Holdsworth, Brass Balls Bobbers? BossMan. ?And it makes me proud to see my fellow manufacturers stepping up to provide a reduction in ownership costs for the first year of operations.?

As energy costs continue to rise and fluctuate, Americans are looking for answers to their transportation needs. Motorcycles are logical options that not only look good but offer a lifestyle enhancement. Experts are reporting the $4 and $5 a gallon gas is just around the corner.

?I look at what Dar is doing and I felt that we needed to support his lean and get green attitude,? said Dave Rash, the Pope of Pipe of D&D Performance Enterprises. ?His program fits with our exhaust solutions that improve mileage as well as increases power.?

The Model 1 and Model 1 S motorcycles are the introductory line of motorcycles from the firm and were selected to showcase the bullet-proof nature of the motorbikes. These bikes don?t scrimp on premium components like a Barker Drivetrain transmission, Harley-Davidson 80″ EVO, NASCAR supplier Wilwood Brakes, Tauer Machine Warlord belt drive and clutch, D&D Performance Enterprises? exhaust, DNA Springer and wheels, Metzeler tires and Excel controls.

The sano motorcycles are stripped of excess components and deliver a comfortable and aggressive ride. Enthusiasts can win a Model 1 motorcycle by going to the www.brassballsbobbers.com website.

Hupy and Abraham, S.C. has been telling motorists to Watch for Motorcycles for years in an attempt to reduce the number of accidents and injuries to motorcyclists. In fact, the Watch for Motorcycles campaign has reached over 5 million people to date through newspaper ads, TV and radio public service announcements, bumper stickers and airplane banners.

Sturgis is the site of the most unique way this message has been brought to the public to date. The Timeline Motorcycle, sponsored by Hupy and Abraham, S.C., was designed and built by Doc?s Harley-Davidson, Bonduel, Wisconsin, and carried a Watch for Motorcycles flag the entire 700+ mile journey from Doc?s dealership to Sturgis. The bike will be on display during the Sturgis Rally at Sturgis Harley-Davidson, right downtown in the middle of all the action.

You can help save a life by requesting a Watch for Motorcycles bumper sticker or stickers to place on your mailing envelopes. Visit www.hupy.com www.hupy.com/

Motorbooks

NEW FROM MOTORBOOKS– I wanted to reach out to you regarding a book that highlights an internationally renowned company AND celebrates the world?s best custom builders. Motorbooks has partnered with S&S Cycle and 50 of the world?s leading custom bike builders to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of S&S Cycle and to bring the art of 50 of the world?s best craftsmen to your bookshelf. The result is a must-have book called S&S Cycle Presents Today?s Top Custom Bike Builders by Howard Kelly and photography by Michael Lichter.

In 1958 George Smith started a small company called S & S Cycle. His mission: ?To make all bikes go faster.? Fifty years later, S & S Cycle is everything Smith envisioned. To celebrate its fiftieth anniversary, the world?s premiere builder of aftermarket V-twin motorcycle engines and components commissioned custom motorcycles from fifty top builders. The competition that grew out of this challenge unfolds in the pages of S & S Presents Today’s Top Custom Bike Builders, which showcases the splendid bikes built for S & S?s fiftieth anniversary show.

The book, beginning with a brief history of S & S Cycle, features four-page spreads on each motorcycle, along with profiles of the builders–including Chica, Cory Ness, Paul Cox, Jerry Covington, Jesse Rooke, Redneck Engineering, Arlen Ness, Kim Suter, Brian Klock, Kendall Johnson, Roger Bourget, Rick Fairless, Fred Kodlin, Jim Nasi, and Paul Teuttel Sr. With illustrations by master custom-bike photographer Michael Lichter, this is as much a celebration of the custom builder?s art as it is a tribute to S & S Cycle?s accomplishment.

The book hits shelves in September but I will have early copies available at the end of August. If you would like to receive a copy for review and consideration of exposure to your audience, please let me know. If I don?t hear from you, I will assume you are passing on this opportunity. Thanks!

FINALLY A MOTORCYCLE FOR DEEDEE– Just my nutty friends. I ride with Flint and Chris but Dee (Chris?s best friend) is afraid to ride with us so Chris gives her a hard time. I try not to pile on because I want to give Dee a different kind of hard time 😉 I can?t stay away from those redheads (especially the crazy ones).

Dee follows us to bike nights; which drives my current lady friend nuts (she can?t stand her). It doesn?t help my conquest efforts that my other good riding buddy(Clive-a stinking ass Brit) just got out of the hospital for totaling his bike after a hard night of drinking. And speaking of Clive he is so obnoxious that I?ve seen him unable to get into a Mexican restaurant in Mexico for being so drunk.

Not only that but he is the only fellow I can honestly say couldn?t get laid in a Mexican whorehouse and I know I took him to a Mexican whorehouse and he ran the girls off. And these are just the nice ones

2009 STURGIS REPORT FROM THE DUSTY STREETS, Sunday/Monday/Tuesday–

Our first impressions of this year?s rally were not good as we rode in Sunday afternoon, straight down Junction to Lazelle. Other years have seen us line up and do the Sturgis Shuffle as hundreds of bikes moved forward bit by bit. Sunday night was pretty low key in main street though those who were down there hadn?t forgotten to party, no sirree!

Monday saw more and more bikes roll into town and things began looking up. Robin Bradley from the AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building reported that there were quite a few more bikes in this year?s competition and a stroll through the display demonstrated that the standard of bike was once again excellent.

hd baker guys

Vendors reported that business was generally up from last year and a number of them were reporting doing great business including Bert Baker of Baker Drivetrain, who said that they were extremely busy with installs and that so far they were very happy with the rally.

Brian Klock was another happy vendor, with Brian and his staff very busy selling his innovative Flare windshields, both at J&P Cycles in Sturgis and in Rapid City at Black Hills Harley-Davidson.

hd two girls

By midday Tuesday the crowd seemed to have swollen and Lazelle St was the usual gridlock rally nightmare with the Shuffle back in town. The Harley-Davidson display at Rapid City was well attended with the new models drawing a great deal of attention. The Fat Boy low was definitely the big hit judging by the crowds around it. All in all, the overall feedback was that the 69th Sturgis Rally was pumping along pretty damn well.

THUNDERSTORM WASHES OUT BLACK HILLS GRAND NATIONAL–Mees Retains Series Lead After Grand National Twins Main is Cancelled .

RAPID CITY, S.D. (August 4, 2009) ? An intense thunderstorm that moved over Black Hills Speedway on Tuesday evening caused the cancellation of the AMA Grand National Twins race there. The racing program had started on time and progressed through qualifying and the first three heat races before the storm dropped heavy rain that made the track surface un-raceable. It was the first time in five years that the AMA Grand National Twins motorcycles had raced on the Black Hills Speedway half-mile.

Per AMA Pro Racing rules, a single point was awarded to all riders who qualified for the Grand National Twins main, and a second point was awarded to the six riders who qualified for the Dash for Cash bonus sprint. Chris Carr Racing/Lancaster Harley-Davidson rider Chris Carr was declared the unofficial winner of the race, based on his fastest lap time during the heat races.

Based on their performance in the heat races, Harley-Davidson Wrecking Crew riders were poised to have a competitive evening before the storm ended the event. Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle factory rider Kenny Coolbeth, the defending AMA Grand National Twins champion, won the second heat race and was followed across the line by Moroney?s Harley-Davidson/Screamin’ Eagle rider Bryan Smith. Latus Harley-Davidson/Screamin? Eagle rider Joe Kopp won the third heat race. Blue Springs Harley-Davidson/Screamin’ Eagle rider Jared Mees, who currently leads the series in points, was second to Kopp in that heat race. The entire Wrecking Crew ? Coolbeth, Kopp, Smith and Mees ? was qualified for the Dash for Cash. Carr and Halbert Family/King Kustoms rider Sammy Halbert were the other two riders qualified for the Dash. All were riding Harley-Davidson XR-750 motorcycles.

The points awarded following the Rapid City race did not alter the season standings. After five of nine 2009 AMA Grand National Twins Championship events, Mees retains the series lead with 79 points. Coolbeth is second with 72 points. Halbert is third with 68 points, and Carr is fourth with 67 points. Smith in seventh place with 53. Kopp is ninth with 40 points.

The 2009 AMA Grand National Twins Championship will next race on August 16 on the Beulah Park Mile in Grove City, Ohio.

The Screamin’ Eagle Flat Track team is sponsored by Matco Tools.

Hey,

Crazy times. National Health Care; someone just sent me the bill, some 1000 plus pages, but I have a question, isn’t Medicare and Medi-cal a national health care plan? And if so, why don’t we expand it to help others, and fix it in the process? If we pass a new one will we have multiple federal health care plans?

I know someone must have a good answer for my questions. In the meantime Sturgis rages on, and I hope everyone rolls home safely. It’s not fair that I’m stuck here while the Girls of Bikernet party in the Badlands. Let’s hit the news, before I start sniveling:

Attendance seems to be very good this year but it?s become very noticeable that people are not spending as much as in previous years. We expected going into the week to start hearing people say they couldn?t buy a calendar because they were running out of money…. I thought we’d start hearing that on Thursday or Friday but it started on Tuesday.

The weather has been great all week during the day. A few evenings have had some bad storms but until this morning we’ve woke up everyday to sunny skies. Today is overcast and calling for rain.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON HELPS RIDERS GET FIT–Motor Company Introduces Fit Shop to Help Riders Find the Perfect Motorcycle Fit .

MILWAUKEE (August 3, 2009) ? Forget the treadmill and spin class ? Harley-Davidson wants motorcycle riders to think differently about getting fit. The Motor Company unveiled the Harley-Davidson Fit Shop at dealerships across the country, which is designed to help motorcycle riders find the perfect fit for their new or used Harley-Davidson motorcycle using Genuine Harley-Davidson Parts and Accessories.

Dealership Fit Shop specialists work with current and prospective Harley-Davidson motorcycle owners to help customize the suspension, seat, handlebars and/or foot controls to meet their riding preferences. New riders may not realize all the customizations that can be made to a bike to make it a one-of-a-kind ride based on build and preference, while long-time riders may not know about the latest customization options. Any Harley-Davidson model can be customized to fit most riders.

?The Motor Company is thrilled to introduce the Harley-Davidson Fit Shop because we want every rider to feel at home behind the handlebars of their dream bike,? said Steve Earnshaw, director of Parts & Accessories Marketing. ?Sometimes the first time someone swings a leg over a Harley-Davidson motorcycle sitting on the dealership floor, the fit isn?t perfect. Our vision is that by spending one-on-one time with a trained Fit Shop specialist, our customers, whether they?re a long-time or new rider, can ride out of the dealership feeling comfortable and confident on the open road.?

For more information about Harley-Davidson Fit Shop visit your local participating Harley-Davidson dealership.

11-L vest

The Story Behind Lil Joe’s Legendary Leathers–In the early 1990s Lil Joe Senkir came up with the idea to create a line of motorcycle Apparel that would be made in the USA, and would look great while giving the protection needed, while blasting down the back roads and freeways of the world…

Lil Joe, being the perfectionist, spent countless hours designing and refining the vests we manufacture today.

Officially hitting the market in 1993, HA Leather started off with most of the interest coming from his club brothers and supporters of the club.

In 1998 Easyriders magazine called HA Leathers, ?The Real Deal in Motorcycle Gear.”

In 2002 Kid Rock asked Lil Joe to design a Lambskin shirt, and a Leather vest which ended up on the front cover of one of his albums.

In 2003, Lil Joe, after a long struggle with illness passed on to the other side.

WEBJVEST2

The year 2003 was a long and hard year for Joe’s widow, Lori, who was at a crossroads.Should she shut down the business Joe loved so much, or carry on with his dream, and provide top quality American made motorcycle leathers to the entire motorcycling world?

By 2004 Lori had her answer and hooked up with seasoned Biker/ Businessman Mike Mills,a former club brother of Lil Joes, and Lil Joes Legendary Leathers was officially reborn.

Later that year, Keith Ball, of Bikernet.com called, Lil Joes Legendary Leathers? The Finest American Leathers on the Market.”

BlackmagicB

In 2004 Black Magic Denim Vest was also added to our motorcycle apparel line.

By 2005 Lil Joe’s Legendary Leathers had reestablished itself as a force to be reckoned with in the motorcycle apparel market.

In 2007 Lil Joe?s dream came to pass, providing top quality motorcycle leathers to all types of riders and to motorcycle clubs on both sides of the fence.

In 2008, Debbie from Bartels’ Harley-Davidson was approached by the producers of the FX TV show, ?Sons of Anarchy,? to provide the leathers for the cast and crew. She knew that if the, ?Sons of Anarchy,? show was going to be realistic, there was only one manufacturer who could provide most, if not all vests to the outlaw motorcyclist scene, and that was Lil Joe’s Legendary Leathers.

webfourpocketvest

With 2008 came the addition of the Zipper Vest, the 4-Pocket Vest and the Leather over-pants.We also started fabricating special orders with different colored linings, gun pockets, holsters, etc?

The Legend is moving forward in 2009?.. Exposure from shows like, ?Sons of Anarchy,? ?Cold Case,? and the biker movie, ?Hell Ride,? gave us the opportunity to meet Bikers from all over the world, of all colors and all stripes.

Over the years we?ve stayed true to Lil Joe?s notions of, “Build the Best,” and ?Made in the USA,? and ?Guaranteed 4 Life,? and they have served us well.

Yes, Lil Joe is gone ???but his dream will live on forever.

Bandit and I both wear Lil Joe?s leathers when we ride. We highly recommend contacting Mike or Lori if you?re in the market for a new jacket, vest, lambskin shirt or even riding pants.

Hamsters USA raise $291,000 for Children?s Care in Rapid CityKurt Rumens of Seattle wins raffle bike– The international motorcycle group Hamsters USA beat their own record by raising $291,000 for Children?s Care in Rapid City during their annual meeting and dinner on Monday, August 3rd. The banquet was held in Spearfish, SD, as part of the Sturgis Rally. Last year, the event raised just over $185,000 for the non-profit organization, which serves children with special needs.

Funds were raised through a silent auction and the raffle of a motorcycle, custom built by world-renowned builder Arlen Ness, for Craig Betz of California. Betz died of cancer weeks after being inducted into the Hamsters USA organization at last year?s annual meeting. His sister Cecily Betz donated the bike to Children?s Care in his memory. The raffle winner, Kurt Rumens of Seattle, Washington, was at the banquet, and donated the bike back to Children?s Care, which was auctioned live to Hamsters member John Christner of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

?Our members are very generous when it comes to children?s issues, and we know all of these funds go directly to help kids in this area, so this kind of success makes us feel really good,? says Hamsters USA spokesman Grady Pfeiffer of Escondido, CA. Pfeiffer recently joined the Children?s Care board of directors. ?Hamsters care very much about making sure that kids get a fair shake in life,? adds Hamsters USA founding member Donnie Smith of Minneapolis.

Funds raised will provide physical, occupational, and speech therapies, plus special educational and psychological services to children served by Children?s Care of Rapid City.

Hamsters USA has raised and donated funds at their annual meeting for the last four years, wanting to give back to the greater Black Hills community, which many Hamsters consider to be their second home.

Larry Page honored with Chrome Heart Award

As a part of the evening?s festivities, Children?s Care honored Hamsters USA member Larry Page of Richmond, Virginia, with the 4th annual Chrome Heart Award, which recognizes an individual in the motorcycle world whose philanthropic support and civic duty represents everything positive in the motorcycle industry.

The design of the award is based on the heart-apple logo of Children?s Care Hospital & School. Page, who owns six car dealerships in the Richmond metro area, plus a car restoration shop called Page Customs, is well-known in Virginia for his philanthropy, especially for children?s projects. Page has been a generous supporter of Children?s Care since the Hamsters USA organization began championing them.

Last year?s Chrome Heart Award went to former motorcycle lobbyist and charity organizer Bob Illingworth of Minneapolis, who passed away on March 24, 2009. Children?s Care of Rapid City served over 1200 children last year with special needs.

SHASTA RALLY COVERAGE RECOGNIZED–Debbie & I want to thank BIKERNET and Gene & Thunder Press for the terrific coverage of the Shasta Salute to America Motorcycle Rally & for putting us on Thunder Press? August cover.

We believe bikers are ready to come out in force to support this rally.

This venue is the best one for a motorcycle rally we have ever seen. It hosts a 58-year-old annual fair with attendance of 40k-60k. It is well maintained & managed. The Fair Board would like a long term commitment.

After our second year working with AVTT, we have been asked for a long term commitment. The Commander of the Klamath Falls VFW is on our Rally committee. He planned all issues related to AVTT?s escort, display & Independence Day weekend ceremonies.

The riding and destinations that appeal to motorcyclists are everywhere in this region ? Lava Beds Nat?l Monument, Living Memorial Sculpture Garden, Medicine Lake, Crater Lake & Mt. Shasta. Roads & highways to get to these destinations have spectacular scenery, are uncrowded & well maintained.

Klamath Falls is a city with all the goods & services to support a major Rally including a commercial airport 30 minutes from the venue.

The venue is 4 hours from Reno & Redding, 8 hours from Sacramento & the Bay Area, 6 hours from Portland, 1 ∏ hrs from Medford (Harley Dealer & motorcycle rentals), 6 hours from Boise, ID, etc.

COOLBETH SECOND AS RAIN SHORTENS HAGERSTOWN HALF-MILE–Defending Champion Moves Up to Second in AMA Grand National Season Points.

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (July 25, 2009) ? Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle factory rider Kenny Coolbeth raced a Harley-Davidson XR-750 to second place in the AMA Grand National Twins main on the Hagerstown Speedway half-mile. The race, which was stopped after 18 laps because of rain and an oiled track, was won by Jake Johnson, also riding a Harley-Davidson XR-750.

Blue Springs Harley-Davidson/Screamin’ Eagle rider Jared Mees led the opening lap of the Grand National Twins main, but was overtaken on lap two by Johnson and Halbert Family/King Kustoms rider Sammy Halbert, who was the fast-qualifier for the event. Halbert took the lead and pulled Johnson with him as the pair opened a gap on Coolbeth, Mees, Chris Carr Racing/Lancaster Harley-Davidson rider Chris Carr, and the Matt?s Racing Harley-Davidson of Matt Weidman.

Johnson passed Halbert to take the lead on lap 11 and quickly opened a gap of almost two seconds. Coolbeth broke away from Mees and Weidman, reeled in the faltering Halbert, and made a pass for second place just as the sprinkles that had been falling since the race started turned into a light rain, and oil was left on the track by the failed engine of Brandon Robinson?s motorcycle. AMA officials ended the race, scheduled for 25 laps, on lap 18 and per the rules backed the scoring up to lap 17.

Johnson was the race winner, Coolbeth was scored second, followed by Halbert, Mees and Weidman. Moroney?s Harley-Davidson/Screamin’ Eagle rider Bryan Smith finished eighth, while the fourth member of the Harley-Davidson Wrecking Crew, Latus Harley-Davidson/Screamin? Eagle rider Joe Kopp, finished 11th.

Johnson also won the four-lap Dash for Cash bonus sprint, finishing 1.9 seconds ahead of Coolbeth. Mees was third in the Dash.

?It was good to get back on the pace here tonight,? said Coolbeth, who bounced back after placing 15th at the previous race in Lima, Ohio. ?We had a good set up and a strong Harley-Davidson motorcycle. We got podium points and second in the Dash, so not a bad night.?

After four of nine 2009 AMA Grand National Twins Championship events, Mees holds the lead in series points lead with 77. Coolbeth moves past Halbert and Carr into second with 70 points. Halbert is third with 66 points, and Carr is fourth with 65 points. Johnson and Weidman are tied with 56 points, followed by Smith in seventh place with 51. Kopp is ninth with 38 points.

The 2009 AMA Grand National Twins Championship will next race tomorrow, August 4 on the Black Hills Speedway half-mile in Rapid City, S.D.

Florida’s Best Kept Secret:

Dolphin

Okay, I know I shouldn’t be blowing the lid off this too-good-to-be-true deal, but since I might get back there before you pack your bike and bags and head to the Sunshine State, I’ll take a chance. This is a story about bikes and Florida. No, not Daytona Bike Week or Octoberfest. First off, it’s not in Daytona, not in Miami, notin Disney World Orlando, nor in poshy Palm Beach…but you’re getting warm. The location is Lake Worth which is adjacent to Palm Beach but with a different zip code and a more laid back, bike friendly attitude…and prices.

Lineup

I had escaped the frenzy of L.A. to visit my brother, my twin brother that is, to celebrate our mutual birthdays. It was getting up there, number wise, and since time and gravity was catching up, I felt it was time to spend time with relativesand to get some much needed R&R in SoFL away from SoCAL. I had grown up in the area before migrating to L.A. to become rich and famous, a plan that still needssome work. In any case I found myself in Lake Worth where my brother lives. Heand his wife ride all over the country and head up a local bike chapter.

pier2

So one night I ended up in Lake Worth, population 36,000, which I had remembered as a sleepy little town with not much happening except a fishing pier that had been splintered by a hurricane a while back. Well, the pier had been rebuilt this time out of wave resistant concrete, the public pool and 1920s Casino was being restored, great restaurants had sprung up, and motorcycles had multiplied like rabbits.

tanker

I was truly amazed. There were bikes, bikes, bikes, every day of the week and not just on Sundays like you’ll see in wannabee L.A. Also Florida has no helmet law if you're 18 or older. There are no smog checks either, so you can drive that blown big block Chevy hotrod. I think you can also own machine guns. I think George W.’s brother Jeb Bush helped those freedoms along while governator of the state.

beard

Okay, so I head down to Lake Ave., the main drag in Lake Worth and meet up with a Harley rider named Adam who’s also a local Century 21 real estate agent. In December ’08 he got the weekly Lake Worth Bike Night shindig going, with the blessings of local businesses and police as well. It was an instant success, each Thursday night drawing from 500-1200 bikes of all makes, models, years anddispositions from customs, to touring bikes, to sport bikes, to bizarre bikes, all were welcome. Live music, restaurant discounts, cheap brew, and lots of bike ogling.

sunset
Lake Worth offers expansive beach, fishing pier with restaurant, and historic Casino and public pool in the process of restoration.

About three minutes away, after crossing a bridge, you find yourself at a beautiful beach and the Lake Worth pier. The water is very warm since the Gulf Stream comes closest to the U.S. at this point. It's great for swimming, surfing, fishing, boating, para-gliding, and of course riding… you name it.

Adam
Adam, the promoter, in the center, under arrest for kicking off this mess.

Now the kicker is that with the recent dip in the economy, house prices are at a lower ebb than the tide at the Lake Worth Lagoon. If you live in SoCal you know that even with the current dilemma, buying a house is not within the grasp of most of us. So when I saw what about 10% of what a house would cost in L.A. could get you in Lake Worth, and we’re talking walking distance to Bike Night and a two minute putt to the beach, I thought why am I not here? If I sold …even just rented…one kidney on eBay, I could own a great little Key West style bungalow…with a/c of course because it does get toasty during the smoldering FL summer.

Longbike

Talking with the people rolling up for Lake Worth Bike Night only confirmed my first impression… It was paradise at a bargain price. Around 6:00 the bikes start congregating, filling up both sides of the palm tree lined Lake Ave. andspilling over onto adjacent side streets. The arrival of one bike literally stopped traffic, the long bike seen in my pix. Measuring 13 ft. 5 inches, it was piloted by its builder/owner Steve Martino, originally from New York.

golfcart

Says Steve, “It started out as dream. I guess I was really thinking big. I hand-fabricated it at home in 2004, starting with a custom frame from Killer Choppers in New Hampshire.” Steve stuffed a100 inch RevTech in the frame, stretched the Fatbob tanks to seven gallons and added two shifters and two clutch controls, one up on the custom made bars, the other attached to a suicide shifter on the left side. And yes, the seat and mile high sissy bar can haul three people, although the police tend to frown on it, butcan’t seem to find a law against it.

Dememted

Another guy that got the local constables’ attention was a rider wearing a t-shirt that said “Demented.” His name was Craig, originally from CT and now a resident of Lake Worth, his bike a root beer colored ’95 Softail with a special accessory not found in the Custom Chrome or Drag catalogs. Strapped to the frontend of his bike was a machete, which he says he plans to turn into a front fender.

girls

“I travel a lot and brought the machete and leather sheath back from Columbia,” Craig said. When he unsheathed the blade, one of the Sheriff’s on duty, apparently there to enforce the $135 fine for walking around with a beer, got on his case, even though Craig assured the officer, who for some reason was wearing a full flak vest, that the blade was dull and simply a gardening implement. That logic fell on deaf ears so the machine went back into the sheath. But I did notice people walking around withdrinks in their hands, if not beer cans, and the police weren’t bugging them. In any case, everyone got along fine.

Easyclub
The t-shirt says it all about biking in the Lake Worth area.

In a slight case of bi-polar biking, we met up with a guy named Rick who was wearing a Ducati t-shirt but riding a Buell, a pristine one at that. Turns out Rick who’s an IT guy has a passel of bikes of various makes including several Ducatis.

girls

We did find a Florida Cowboy in the form of mustachioed Bob Milleege (originally from Washington state) who told me about a house for sale just across the street from his home and only two blocks away from Bike Night. Just renovated as new. The price…I won’t repeat. As the sun was making a beautiful Florida sunset, I rode over and checked it out. It even had a garage.

shop

Let’s just say the whole house, and a nifty one at that, cost less than a small garage in L.A. That’s the report for now. I gotta call the FHA in Florida and see if they’ll lend me any money.

racoon
Wildlife include raccoons which amble about even during daytime. Wait, alligators are growing in number, rumor has it they tend to live farther west of town in the canals and in the golf course ponds. I don't play golf…

2009 Lone Star Rally Report

Img72

I finally snagged the opportunity to attend the Lone Star Rally in Galveston, Texas once more. Being semi-retired from the strip club business does have one advantage. It gave me the opportunity to hit more events. On the downside – No Daily Strippers and no paycheck, both serious issues, which at some point I need to think about just in case I don’t win the lotto.

Img62

Img69

The LSR continues to grow each year in spite of Mother Nature. In 2004, we were hit with the outer bands from one of the largest, most devastating hurricanes in history, which made a mess of Galveston, not enough to stop LSR though. Then last year’s event was postponed due to Hurricane Ike, which flattened Galveston and a big portion of the Texas coast.

Img77
Get off the cell phone, goddamnit.

Img73

While not able to attend the 2008 event, I remember I was shooting a bike for Southern Metal Choppers as they made their way down from Austin, through Houston heading towards the rally. As they pulled up to the shop it was snowing! The 2009 weather seemed improved with Thursday & Friday starting off cool and rainy, but by Saturday the weather was dead on Sunny and in the 70s. Folks were out in droves!

Img19

Img77

The Lone Star Rally is a free event, and while the official attendance figures are still not in, one of the fine folks at the rally office reported in. “We were estimating 250,000 plus, in attendance this year,” she said, “giving a much-needed economic shot in the arm to the island.”

Img89

Img78

Businesses are still recovering after Ike’s wrath last year. Our favorite terrific Mexican food place, discovered in 2004, wasn't open. I'm not sure of its fate, as this entire end of Galveston was underwater.

Img01

Img11

The historic Strand was the favorite people watching area. It's the main drag in this historic part of the island, with vendors set up on side streets. Then the remaining event venues were separated by the 4-lanes of Harborside Drive, where you cross over to the harbor side of Galveston Bay. This is where the main stage was positioned, along with the rally vendors and participants requiring a little more space, like Rhett Rotten and the Wall of Death.

Img74

Img63

Harbor housed several excellent restaurants and cool touristy shops, plus the magnificent Elissa, known as The Tall Ship of Texas. The Elissa is a 132-year old, 205-foot, 3-masted square-rigged sailing vessel rescued from being destroyed in 1979 and then restored back to sailing condition over the next 3 years. Folks can take tours of the Ocean Star Museum, an off-shore drilling platform, retired from fighting off hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico to fight hurricanes in the harbor.

Img95

Img99

As I made my way through the crowd one of the more interesting vendors I happened upon was the bright yellow 18-wheeler of TRC Rocks – The Rock Place out of Ogden, Utah these folks have some very cool rock sculptures! While I cannot find a website for them, the phone number: 801-476-3332 and Ed Mueller is the man to talk too if you are looking something unique to add to your yard!

Img03
Allstate raffle bike.

Img05

I then came across the Allstate Insurance display, where 2 young ladies were registering folks for a chance to win a custom bike built by Dave Perewitz, that pesky photographer from Easyriders magazine kept getting in my shots though. Mike, a young lady named Sonya (Billy’s goddaughter, I think?) told me if I saw you again to tell you to come find her working over at 20th & the Strand. I know it is a little after the fact, but I did pass along the message to Rick & Joe-T over at Strokers just in case. When it comes to soft messages from young hotties, I honor my word.

Img53

While there were plenty of hot bands playing at the harbor stage, this year’s main musical guests included Pat Green scheduled for Friday night, with Leon Russel, Edgar Winter and Lynyrd Skynyrd scheduled to play on Halloween night. Both concerts were held at Moody Gardens with ticket prices ranging from $20-$95 dollars, depending on how close you wanted to be. Since the concerts were held a few miles away from the main event, there was a free shuttle service from the Strand to the music action each night.

Img58

Img38

There were noticeably more RV’s, travel trailers and tents filling up the now vacant lots along the seawall and throughout the city, in part due to the continued growth of the rally, coupled with the loss of three or four hotels due to the hurricane. One of those lost being the Flagship Hotel, built in 1965; she stretched out 1000 feet into the Gulf of Mexico and was/is one of a few hotels in the U.S. built entirely over the water. It was sort of eerie as I drove past the intersection in search of Denny’s at 5:00 in the morning. I could see nothing more than faint shadow of the building in the darkness.

Img87

Img24

The storm totally destroyed many buildings that called the beach home. The Balinese Room, another famous landmark washed away, which ZZ Top paid tribute to on their 1975 Fandango album. Although originally built in 1923, it began life as the Balinese Room in 1942, featuring headliners such as Frank Sinatra, Burns and Allen, Bob Hope, and Jack Benny. I am fortunate to have attended a concert or two in this historical place.

Img88

Img34

While I did not get to participate, there was a hunt for Jean Lafitte’s hidden treasure; Lafitte was a 19th century pirate who roamed the Gulf of Mexico. Rachael Beaman was able to locate all the clues left at various establishments throughout the island and win the treasure along with a custom built motorcycle! Not a bad haul for a day of treasure hunting.

Img93

Img58

Unfortunately, I was not able to stay for Saturday night’s Halloween festivities; there is no debauchery on the Strand as this is a family orientated event. However, that does not stop the fun, so come on down next year, and check out the Lone Star Rally!

Img64
Strokers Dallas Crew.

Img68

One helpful tip OBEY the speed limits as you head south out of Houston down I-45. There are several small towns along the way. They love to generate additional revenue on the rally weekend.Hopefully by next year’s rally I will be back to having two semi-descent working knees and be able to cover more ground. Like I told the boss man, I may have some parts failing and be slowing some, but I will take old and worn out parts over the alternative any day. And I still ride a rigid frame! Now down to the garage to finish fixing my dad’s FLH, need to put on those new shocks…

Till next time,

BIKERNET REPORTERS SNEAKS INTO H-D NEW MODEL LAUNCH– Thought I’d drop you a line from Harley’s new model launch in Denver. Just came back from our first day of riding the Rocky Mountain roads, and man it was a blast. Harley has some cool new stuff for the 2010 line up and two of the models are pretty tough. On the tech end of things the big change was that they got rid of the spur gear that was causing all the fifth gear whine and have now replaced it with a helical cut design.

fatboylow

THE FAT BOY LOW

Imagine if you took a Fat Boy and crossed it with the Streetbob, that’s what you have here. A combination of flat black, gloss black and brushed chrome finishes give this bike a tougher look than it’s had since Arnold rode it. The low comes from the 24 and 1/4 inch seat height. This is the lowest bike in the Harley-Davidson line and with a redesigned seat, more narrow in the leg area, it should fit anyone pretty easily.

Wide Glide

THE DYNA WIDE GLIDE

Again, borrowing style elements from the bobber influence they took the Wide Glide and made it cooler. A bobbed rear fender with now big taillight for starters. They dropped the big rear lens in favor for Stop, Turn, Tails off to each side. The seat height is lower and the tanks are lifted in the front giving it a look of a chop, and let’s not forget the hot rod flame job.

Road Glide

THE HOT ROD BAGGER – ROAD GLIDE CUSTOM

This bike was a blast to ride! Basically what they did was take the success they had with the Street Glide and move that design principal over to the Road Glide. Slammed an inch lower in the rear suspension, stripped of all the extras, small windscreen and an 18 inch front wheel give this bike a killer profile. The 18″ wheel will also be available on the Street Glides this year.

THE ULTRA LIMITED

For the cat who wants more than just the top of the food chain in the touring family, Harley has taken care of most of the add ons you might want after the sale. Heated grips, Anti-Lock breaks, 103″ Engine with oil cooler, Luggage Rack, Premium Tour Pack and Luggage rack liners. Titanium Tone instrument faces and five distinct Ultra Limited badges.

STREET GLIDE TRIKE

In keeping with the less is more trend that has done them so well with other models Harely stripped down the Trike they released last year, giving it a lighter, more sporty look. I didn’t have the chance to ride this yet but the previous year model was a big hit and this will surely find it’s place as well.

So that’s about it for the main line, the other new models were CVO bikes and I didn’t get to ride those so for now, your roving reporter, out!

Jimsoffer

BACK IN THE BIKERNET HISTORY CLASS– They used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot & then once a day it was taken & sold to the tannery…….if you had to do this to survive you were “Piss Poor”

But worse than that were the really poor folk who couldn’t even afford to buy a pot……they “didn’t have a pot to piss in” & were the lowest of the low

The next time you are washing your hands and complain because the water temperature isn’t just how you like it, think about how things used to be.

Here are some facts about the 1500s:

Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May, and they still smelled pretty good by June.. However, since they were starting to smell. .. . Brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor. Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.

Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children. Last of all the Babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it. Hence the saying, “Don’t throw the baby out with the Bath water!”

Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof. When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof. Hence the saying “It’s raining cats and dogs.”

There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house. This posed a real problem in the bedroom where bugs and other droppings could mess up your nice clean bed. Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection. That’s how canopy beds came into existence.

The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt. Hence the saying, “Dirt poor.” The wealthy had slate floors that would get slippery in the winter when wet, so they spread thresh (straw) on floor to help keep their footing. As the winter wore on, they added more thresh until, when you opened the door, it would all start slipping outside. A piece of wood was placed in the entrance-way. Hence: a thresh hold.

(Getting quite an education, aren’t you?)

In those old days, they cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle that always hung over the fire.. Every day they lit the fire and added things to the pot. They ate mostly vegetables and did not get much meat. They would eat the stew for dinner, leaving leftovers in the pot to get cold overnight and then start over the next day. Sometimes stew had food in it that had been there for quite a while. Hence the rhyme: Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in the pot nine days old.

Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special. When visitors came over, they would hang up their bacon to show off. It was a sign of wealth that a man could, “bring home the bacon.” They would cut off a little to share with guests and would all sit around and chew the fat.

Those with money had plates made of pewter. Food with high acid content caused some of the lead to leach onto the food, causing lead poisoning death. This happened most often with tomatoes, so for the next 400 years or so, tomatoes were considered poisonous.

Bread was divided according to status. Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf, the family got the middle, and guests got the top, or the upper crust.

Lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky. The combination would sometimes knock the imbibers out for a couple of days. Someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them for burial. They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around and eat and drink and wait and see if they would wake up. Hence the custom of holding a wake.

England is old and small and the local folks started running out of places to bury people. So they would dig up coffins and would take the bones to a bone-house, and reuse the grave. When reopening these coffins, 1 out of 25 coffins were found to have scratch marks on the inside and they realized they had been burying people alive. So they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, lead it through the coffin and up through the ground and tie it to a bell. Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the graveyard shift.) to listen for the bell; thus, someone could be, saved by the bell or was considered a dead ringer…

And that’s the truth…Now, whoever said History was boring ! ! !

Focus

BIKERNET THURSDAY ART EXHIBIT OPEN–“FOCUS” is the latest in a series of prints and Originals from Stefanie Aziere-Sattler dedicated to Land Speed Racing. Stefanie was recently featured as the official artist for the S&S 50th Anniversary Celebration, where she was intrigued by the allure of the salt.

Ask a 14 year old to focus, and they may look at you like you have 3 eyes. Put a 14 year old on a motorcycle and tell her to go as fast as she can, and you will see focus happen naturally, without any instruction. Karlee Cobb (now 15 years old, Mitchell, South Dakota) became the youngest to ever set a record on the Bonneville Salt Flats in 2008, setting 2 land speed records on her Buell Blast, at the age of 14. This painting shows her FOCUS and fierce determination as she heads out to make a pass. Karlee, her sister Erika, and mom Laura Klock are the first mother, daughter, daughter trio in the history of Land Speed Racing to hold records at the same time. If this girl stays focused, who knows what we will see her do next!

The Original is in Oil. Giclee Prints are available in a Limited Edition run of 50 pieces. All numbered and signed by the artist. Two sizes are available: 20×30 for $250.00, and 15×25 for $150.00 both sizes are available on canvas or art paper.

XR1200 Performance Suspension

NEW PERFORMANCE SUSPENSION KIT FOR HARLEY-DAVIDSON XR1200–Lightweight, High-Performance Showa Forks and Shocks are Fully Adjustable

MILWAUKEE (July 26, 2009) ? Optimize the handling performance of the Harley-Davidson XR1200 with the new XR1200 Performance Suspension Kit (P/N 54530-10, $1,499.95) from Harley-Davidson Genuine Motor Accessories. The kit includes a set of adjustable Showa Big Piston Front (BPF) forks that enhance feedback and deliver smooth action. The BPF design eliminates many of the internal components of a standard cartridge-type fork and results in a lighter-weight front suspension. The new forks offer convenient rebound and compression damping and spring pre-load adjustment to fine-tune the suspension to rider preference.

The kit also includes upgraded Showa rear shock absorbers with 36mm pistons and piggy-back, nitrogen-charged reservoirs. Compression is adjusted with a knob on the reservoir, while rebound damping is adjusted with a thumb wheel on the lower clevis. Spring pre-load can be adjusted to achieve optimal sag. The entire kit includes one set of Big Piston Front forks and one set of rear shocks, and fits 2008-later XR1200 models.

BIKERNET STURGIS RUN THURSDAY NEWS–TRIKES, TEXAS CRAFTSMAN, KRUGGER LATEST, FORWARD CONTROLS FROM CUSTOM CHROME AND TERRIFIC INDIAN FOR SALE

Continued From Page 2

Lehmantrike

Lehman Unveils CrossBow at Victory Dealer Meeting–Lehman Trikes on July 23 unveiled its newest three-wheeler, the “CrossBow,” during the Polaris/Victory dealer meeting in Minnesota.

Factory-assembled in Spearfish, S.D., the CrossBow was designed by Lehman Trikes with engineering participation from Victory Motorcycles.

Powered by the Victory Vision 106 cu. in. Freedom V-twin engine and featuring the Lehman “No Lean” suspension, the CrossBow marks the second collaboration between the two companies since the first Victory-based concept trikes were shown at the Polaris 50th Anniversary celebration in 2004.

The 2010 CrossBow (MSRP: $33,995) will arrive at selected Lehman dealerships in fall 2009. The bike features a three-year, unlimited mileage warranty on Lehman Trikes components and assembly, and the standard Victory one-year, unlimited mileage warranty covering the Victory Vision motorcycle.

Lehman’s process in designing and engineering a trike out of a particular make and model of motorcycle from initial research through design, engineering, prototype and testing generally takes nine to 18 months to complete.

Lehman Trikes assembles and sells two main product lines: motorcycle conversion kits and complete trikes. The company offers conversion kits for the Honda GL1800 motorcycle and most current models of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. The company also utilizes these kits, along with ones designed for the Suzuki C50, C90 and the Victory Kingpin and Vision, for trikes converted at its assembly plant. The completed trikes are assembled using the conversion kits and motorcycles purchased by the company, as well as made for Harley-Davidson under a supplier agreement announced in 2006.

While Lehman Trikes’ revenue in the first quarter, ended Feb. 28, was $6.38 million, up 40 percent compared to the $4.54 million in revenue attained during the first quarter of 2008, the company posted a net loss of $128,629 compared to a profit of $65,480 in the prior year quarter.

Lehman leadership says the gain in revenue came from its supply agreement with Harley-Davidson. Although company sales are affected by a tightening of consumer credit, management says the credit situation has had more of an effect on the company’s lower-priced offerings.

Lehman says it believes that in this environment, the dealer network will reduce inventory but continue to purchase based on anticipated sales. Meanwhile, the company will continue efforts to right size the organization to match sales forecasts.

John Lehman started his company as a backyard business in 1984 when he mated a 1981 Honda CB900 to a 7.5-inch Chevrolet Vega differential and a metal fabricated body.

Now, there are nearly 100 employees working for the publicly traded company in two factory locations. The home factory continues to remain in Westlock, Alberta, Canada. The second plant was opened early in 2004 in Spearfish, S.D. Sales, marketing, customer service, R&D, engineering, production, logistics, finance and administration work cooperatively between the two locations.

John Lehman will be inducted into the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame at the annual induction breakfast ceremony during the Sturgis Rally on Aug. 5.?Submitted by Guido Ebert

Citizen Motorcyclists ROAR TheirDisapproval of Boston?s EPA Stamp Tax– (Boston, MA— July 28, 2009) Area motorcyclists gathered last night at Boston?s Hard Rock Caf? to “Make some meaningful NOISE” by “ROARING” with phone calls over the next two weeks to City Officials and the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce.

The message of last night?s second Citizen-Biker Rally at the Hard Rock Caf? was co-hosted by the Justice Riders who are Plaintiffs in the lawsuit against the City of Boston.

The lawsuit would revoke the repugnant ordinance passed June 9, 2009 calling for a $300 fine on any motorcycle if the self-expiring Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) stamp on their exhaust system is not “readily visible” to Boston?s Law Enforcement officers.

The EPA Exhaust System Stamp is meant to be a consumer protection and intended to be self- expiring and okay to tamper with once purchased by the consumer. Individuals wanting to modify their exhaust system can easily misuse the EPA Stamp without legal consequences under the city?s new ordinance.

No citations were issued last night. A Boston Police detail officer advised the motorcyclists that he had not yet been made aware of the repugnant ordinance.

“All riders repulsed by this unfair act enacted by Boston?s Municipal Officials, in conflict with State Statues and Regulations, can ?EPA? meaning ?Either Pay or Act? to help revoke this ordinance, “said Paul W. Cote` of Amesbury, a co-plaintiff in the lawsuit.

“Two phone calls, for three days, beginning now and throughout the next two weeks will make Boston?s City Councilors aware of our indignation,” Cote` continued. “At first it might seem awkward, but you’ll get the hang of it and may enjoy the next 3 and 6 calls you make because you will be making a difference!”

Flyers were passed out to Rally attendees geared towards both Citizen of Boston and non-Citizen motorcyclists, which included contact information for City Officials and step-by-step directions for methodical phone calls including a sample call script. (attached herein)

Cote` continues, “This is how riders roared to get six bills passed at the State House benefiting motorcyclists including enactment for rider safety and insurance discounts. This is how we’ll get this ordinance repealed. Don’t fax or e-mail, make their phones ring off the hook until they ask us to stop. Make some meaningful noise!”

“If we don’t stop this here and now, this repugnant standard will come to your City or Town,” co-plaintiff Vince Silva said. Silva and co-plaintiff Mike Longtin of Easton sold over 85 “Don’t Tread on Me – I refuse to allow the Boston City Council Run My Life” helmet and bumper stickers at $2 each to help offset expensive legal offense costs.

Similar looking patches will be available at the next Rally scheduled for Monday, August 10th.

Dave Elias, Business Manager of the MMA contributed a $200 donation to the Justice Riders from his Association to add to legal offense funds. The MMA announced earlier it has set up a “defense fund” to aid cited riders.

Betsy Lister of Medford, Insurance Agent and long-time motorcyclists? advocate, was appointed Treasurer for the Justice Riders as an independent source to reconcile funds advanced and raised.

Since the repugnant ordinance was signed by Boston’s Mayor, and the lawsuit was filed on July 3, 2009, there have been no reports of any actual citations issued, only rumors.

Co-Plaintiff Larry Cahill of www.BostonBiker.com told attendees, “We’ve heard rumors that some riders may have been cited. We need them to come forward with their actual citations so we can demonstrate to the Court’s that riders are being harmed.”

Co-Plaintiff and long-time motorcyclists? activist Bill Gannon implored riders, “Take or download these flyers with instructions how to ‘ROAR,’ and do it!” Gannon continued, “Your voice will be heard if you make this meaningful NOISE, and you can make a difference. We’ll never know which call will break the City Councilors ranks. But one will and it could be yours! Make the calls now! EPA; either pay or act now!”

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER FINDINGS BY DR. WEIL–As men and women age, they can experience a loss of bone mass as well as normal wear and tear on the joints. Small preventive measures can help to protect joints and keep bones strong – consider the following supplements:

Calcium. People who don’t get enough calcium may lose bone mass faster and fracture bones more easily. Taking half as much magnesium with supplemental calcium will help offset any constipating effects. I recommend women supplement with 500 to 700 mg of calcium citrate in two divided doses taken with meals for a total of 1,000-1,200 mg from all sources (including diet); most men do not need calcium supplements, but should instead get 500-600 mg per day through diet.

Vitamin D. It facilitates the absorption of calcium, helping to support healthy and strong bones. It also promotes bone mineralization. Get regular sun exposure (about 20-30 minutes a day is adequate), and take 2,000 IU of vitamin D per day – look for supplements that provide D3 (cholecalciferol) rather than D2 (ergocalciferol).

Vitamin K. It helps activate certain proteins that are involved in the structuring of bone mass. Low intake of vitamin K has been linked to low bone density. You can get adequate amounts of vitamin K through a diet rich in leafy greens, such as Swiss chard, kale, parsley and spinach, broccoli and cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, liver, soybean oil and wheat bran.

Anyway, without getting of on a riff about 1%ers, Honda used that statement as a marketing campaign. Indian did not. Thought you should know.

Well, in order to reach out to the hot young talent who are building some of the most bitchin’ bikes these days, a special stage has been erected inside the spoke that will give credit to three young builders. Brian Elliott of Black Sunshine Customs, Rod Davis of Stripped Down Cycles and Scott Williams of Williams Originals. Each of these builders have been selected for their age, passion for building and accomplishments in their field.

Their bikes will be on display on top of that stage all week long and they will personally be on hand during select times to meet people and talk about their builds.

BIKERNET ITALIAN LANGUAGE LESSON– For several years, a man was having an affair with an Italian woman. One night, she confided in him that she was pregnant.

Not wanting to ruin his reputation or his marriage, He paid her a large sum of money if she would go to Italy to secretly have the child. If she stayed in Italy to raise the child, he would also provide child support until the child turned 18. She agreed, but asked how he would know when the baby was born.

To keep it discrete, he told her to simply mail him a post card, and write “Spaghetti” on the back. He would then arrange for the child support payments to begin.

One day, about 9 months later, he came home to his confused wife.”Honey,”she said, “you received a very strange post card today.”

“Oh, just give it to me and I’ll explain it later,” he said. The wife obeyed and watched as her husband read the card, turned white, and fainted..

On the card was written: “Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti. Three with meatballs, two without. Send extra sauce.”

LETTER TO CALIFORNIA GOVERNOR REGARDING NEW DWI LAW FOR MOTORCYCLISTS–Dear Governor, A representative from the California DMV, Licensing Policy Section, made mention recently that personnel within the DMV are considering the promotion of a law change regarding the DWI laws and motorcycle riders. He said that if this law were passed, a motorcyclist would be declared drunk if he or she were riding with a .04 Blood Alcohol Count.

This letter is to stress my objection to that discriminatory plan. While the .04 BAC has been in place for a number of years for drivers who are operating commercial vehicles, a drunk behind the wheel of a big rig could certainly kill or injure many people in one incident. Even drunks with a .08 BAC driving a car, small truck, or van are responsible for almost half of the deaths on our highways.

If we are going to Profile and Discriminate?why not against drivers of SUV?s ? or against any driver who has already been convicted of DWI ? Or against anyone who was born in Austria or Tahiti ? Or anyone riding bicycles? Are we trying to promote public safety ??? Or are we just thinking about imposing another ?Nanny-Law? against a group that has the least visible amount of voting power.

As a long-time safety instructor involved with all sizes of vehicles, if someone were to promote a .04 DWI being brought against the drivers of ALL VEHICLES, you would have my support. A law like this would not affect me personally, because I am a non-drinker?. And as a motorcycle rider, I am an advocate of straight and sober vehicle operation?.all vehicles.

As a citizen who is concerned with peoples constitutional rights, however, I strongly feel that profiling and discrimination against any one class of person or the drivers of any one class of vehicle, is wrong.

Thank you for your concern,

–John V. Del Santo

HINES BEATS KRAWIEC IN AN ALL-HARLEY NHRA FINAL AT SONOMA– Both Screamin? Eagle/Vance & Hines Riders Lock Up Countdown Playoff Slots

SONOMA, Calif. (July 26, 2009) – Screamin? Eagle/Vance & Hines rider Andrew Hines defeated his teammate, Screamin? Eagle/Vance & Hines rider Eddie Krawiec, to win the final round of Pro Stock Motorcycle eliminations at the Fram Autolite NHRA Nationals at Infineon Speedway. It was the third consecutive all-Harley V-Rod final round of the 2009 NHRA season, the second win of the season for Hines and the 17th of his career. Krawiec, the defending NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle champion, made his seventh-consecutive final-round appearance at Sonoma, and now leads the Pro Stock Motorcycle standings by 70 points.

?I think right now Eddie and I are riding the best we ever have in the three years we?ve been together on the Screamin? Eagle/Vance & Hines team,? said Hines. ?We have both really been working on our reaction times, and we are both hungry when we come to the line. The Harley V-Rod is one bad machine, but we prove our point with our riding.?

Krawiec and Hines are also the first Pro Stock Motorcycle racers to qualify for the five-race 2009 Full Throttle Countdown to the Championship. Krawiec qualified following the Mopar Mile High Nationals on July 12, while Hines qualified during eliminations at Sonoma. Only the top 10 points earners in the class will take part in the Countdown playoffs, which begin at the North Carolina Nationals on Sept. 17-20.

For the first time this season, Krawiec led Pro Stock Motorcycle qualifying, posting a 6.915-second run in the final round on Saturday to claim the top spot. Hines qualified third with a 6.931-second ET.

Hines started his march through Sunday eliminations with a hot 6.90-second run to defeat Suzuki rider Katie Sullivan, and put up a 6.93 ET in round two after Hector Arana left the line early. Hines used a 6.929 run beat NitroFish.com Suzuki rider Matt Smith (6.999) to advance to the final round for the third event in row.

Krawiec got a free pass in round one with Stone Mountain/Granite Mountain Harley-Davidson/Buell rider Junior Pippin broke at the starting line. Krawiec made a 6.961 pass in round two to beat Rocklin Motorsports Buell rider Matt Guidera, and won in round three when Doug Horne left the line early on the Horne Racing Buell.

?Consistency and confidence are our big advantage right now,? said Krawiec. ?When I go to the line, I?m not thinking about the rider in the other lane. It?s just me, my Harley V-Rod motorcycle, and my lane. If I do my job, I should get a win. And if I don?t win, it?s good to see Andrew in the other lane.?

The final at Sonoma was the 12th time Hines and Krawiec had faced each other at the starting line, each winning six times. Hines had won twice in three final-round matches between the two riders, and he made it three-and-one with an outstanding 0.007-second reaction time and a 6.972 ET to beat Krawiec (0.034/7.014) going away.

After nine events on the 17-race 2009 NHRA Full Throttle Pro Stock Motorcycle schedule, Krawiec leads the series with 837 points. Hines is second with 767, followed by Smith with 636, and Horne with 580.

The next event on the 2009 NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle schedule is the Lucas Oils NHRA Nationals, Aug. 13-16 at Brainerd International Raceway, Brainerd, Minn.

The Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines Pro Stock Motorcycle team is sponsored by Matco Tools, Dunlop and S100.

CHANCE TO WIN $10,000 AND SUPPORT KIDS’ HOMES–Bandit and Bikernet was on the board of directors of these homes for over a decade, so this is square business:

I do not normally send mass e-mails, but I thought that this was important enough to write you all. Both Alan and I have been long time supporters of a very special organization called YOUTH SERVICES NETWORK. Since 1985 YSN has operated residential homes in the San Fernando Valley for abused, neglected, and abandoned boys ages 12-18. These boys deserve more than they have gotten in life and that is why I am asking for your support. Some of you have been kind enough to participate in the past and I hope you will again.

Next month is the Third Annual “Survivors Raffle” fundraiser for YSN. It is called a “Survivors Raffle” because the last ticket wins.. We have a total of 300 tickets at $100.00 each. On September 20, 2009 at our annual BBQ at the home of the President of the Board of Directors located in Studio City, the raffle tickets will be drawn out of a bowl and pinned up on a board with 300 spaces. Every 25th ticket will win a prize equal to or greater than the price of the ticket and the last ticket out of the bowl will win $10,000.00.

THAT’S RIGHT – $10,000.00! And only 300 tickets will be sold. At 300 to 1 odds, that?s much better than the lottery. All donations are fully tax deductible and are going to a really fantastic cause. You and your family are welcome to attend the BBQ, but you do not need to be present at the BBQ to win. The boys, staff and members of the YSN Board will all be there.

To buy a ticket or tickets (the more you buy the better chance you have to win), please send your check payable to YOUTH SERVICES NETWORK to Christine Masters, c/o Youth Services Network, 11336 Camarillo Street, Suite 306, Toluca Lake, California 91602. Make sure you include your return address. We will send you your ticket/s, information on the BBQ, and YSN’s non-profit tax ID number. Please also email me to let me know you will be sending a check.

Thank you very much for helping YSN make a difference in these boys’ lives.

Take good care and all the best,

Burnouts are King Friday Night at the Legendary Buffalo Chip–Sturgis, SD (July 24, 2009) Friday night is burnout night at the Chip and you won’t want to miss this one. The Legendary Buffalo Chip is holding its Second Annual Baker Burnout Drags Competition, followed by an audience participation group burnout on Friday, August 7 during the Sturgis Rally. The competition is a raw execution of power, precision and skill is guaranteed to get your motor running.

The high octane, tournament-style Baker Burnout Drags Competition brought to you by Baker Drivetrain and the Legendary Buffalo Chip will come to a head during Friday night’s entertainment line-up. This year’s group burnout is sure to be a crowd-pleaser flaunting up to 100 bikes. The steel bridge along the Kinison Playground will be transformed into burnout central as bikes will be set 10 feet in the air and prepped for huge number of bikes smoking their rear tires.

The climax of this year’s group burnout will highlight a 1938 Indian Chief with sidecar, ridden and restored by prominent industry daredevil and foremost authority on Indian Motorcycles, Mike “Kiwi” Tomas. Kiwi Mike is the owner of Kiwi Indian and the leading authority on the restoration of old Indians. Originally from New Zealand, Kiwi Mike learned the tools of the trade early on. In 1988 he started Kiwi Indian in California and has become the dominant force in Indian parts and restoration.

The striking 1938 Indian Chief that Kiwi Mike will be riding was specifically chosen for this event to commemorate the year in which the Sturgis Rally first blazed onto the motorcycle scene. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to observe a 1938 Indian complete a burnout. Everybody loves a great burnout. Back and bigger than ever you won’t want to miss this year’s spectacle!

SCOTT JACOBS ATTENDS H-D ANNUAL DEALER SHOW–If our results at the Harley-Davidson Dealer Convention over the weekend are any indication, the economic recovery is in full swing. Scott Jacobs? Studios? sales were up over 300% compared to last year?s show.

A huge bright spot was the new official Sturgis painting this year (which many of you have been following its progress on our website) and now you can finally order the piece. The edition is limited to a mere 69 regular (27 x 18 image size) and 69 large (36 x 24) giclee canvases as this is the 69th Anniversary of the Sturgis Rally.

If you own last year?s IN YOUR DREAMS, depicting Scott?s daughter Olivia, we will try our best to match your number on second piece in the Sturgis Series: FACE TO FACE.

FACE TO FACE depicts Scott?s 76 year old dad as the model (it was a total shock to him) and it is the first painting he has ever been a part of. Also Scott painted a Screamin? Eagle and a dresser for the first time. More unusual is that this is Scott?s first ever Mt. Rushmore painting in 17 years as Harley?s official artist.

Scott?s father will also hand sign the canvas. Price for the regular framed is $895 and the large framed is $1950. We will be showing the work at Rally from the following locations: Black Hills Harley-Davidson, Sturgis Harley-Davidson and with the Motor Co. at Rapid City Civic Center.

Lastly, the new book has been delayed a bit until probably Sept. so no orders will be processed until then. Thank you for your patience. Scott took the photo attached from the display in Sturgis on his iphone so the quality is lacking but the painting is exceptional. HDrecall

H-D, BMW, DealerLeather Announce Recalls–Three companies doing business in the motorcycle industry have posted recall notices with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON CVO ROAD GLIDE

Harley-Davidson is recalling about 1,759 units of its 2009 FLTRSE3 CVO Road Glide motorcycles equipped with Blade rear wheel accessory kits.

The OEM says some wheels underwent a secondary heat treatment process which may have caused a crack in the wheel and result in wheel failure.

Dealers are asked to remove the rear wheel and inspect the manufacturer’s code. Wheels that underwent a secondary heat treatment process are to be replaced free of charge.

BMW

BMW R1200 RT

BMW is recalling its 2007-2009 R1200 RT motorcycles for brake lines that may fail.

BMW says, due to the routing and assembly tolerances of the front brake lines, it is possible for the lines to be under strain. In combination with vibration during riding, the brake lines could develop a leak, expel brake fluid and render the front brakes inoperable.BMW has not yet announced a remedy or notification schedule.

DEALERLEATHER HELMETS

The helmets, produced between April 1, 2008 and May 31, 2008, fail to conform to the impact attenuation requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 218 and may allow serious injury to the wearer in the event of a crash.

BIKERNET STURGIS RUN THURSDAY NEWS–IT’S HOT AND HEAVY

Jerrygirlhome

Hey,

Most brothers are either rolling into the Badlands, over the next couple of days, or they’re crawling out of dusty tents this morning. I have a confession. I ducked out this year, due to the economic downturn, the checks didn’t whistle onto Sin Wu’s antique desk in time and I had to pull the plug.

That’s cool, I’ll have a summer at the headquarters. Plus, I am graced with a year to dial in, break in, and test ride the 5-Ball factory racer. What a novel notion. Instead of taking off to Sturgis with only 100 miles on the clock, this bike will be tried-and-true, with no deadline pressure. In fact, this weekend I will install the paint and begin the wiring.

Dickallensturgis smoke

I also have a couple of other goals that need addressing. Hopefully this week I will inspect the art for my first Chance Hogan book, and then it’s off to the printer. I also need to have a meeting regarding our SEMA effort to support motorcycle rights. Here’s just one reason the fight continues:

This is a report from The Week magazine this week: The U.S. in 2003 blocked publication of data documenting the danger of texting while driving, the New York Times reported. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration withheld data that showed that driving while texting or talking on a mobile phone was as risky as driving while intoxicated. Jeffrey Runge, then head of NHTSA, said he’d decided against publishing the data to avoid angering members of Congress who believe that publicizing the information amounted to improper lobbying.

Imagine, since over 50 percent of all motorcycle deaths are caused by motorists, how many brothers died because of that decision. And the world is coming down on us for noise issues. We need to make noise, goddamnit. Let’s hit the news:

Southern Bike Night TV’s new season airs in October on ION cable network, nationwide late Friday nights–“We want to film at the biggest bike nights in the South – in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, North and South Carolina and Tennessee,” said Jim Burgos, the show’s host and founder of Big Easy Productions.

The show was originally filmed in New Orleans but moved to South Florida post-Katrina, where it quickly moved from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. in its first season.

Now the show is moving to a national spotlight, and once again (as always) needs the support of the biker community. “We want to set something up at the biggest bike nights in the Southeast at the places where bikers really go, and would recommend to us,” said Burgos.

This is starting to spread and motorcyclist around the country Need To Fight This–EAST GREENWICH, R.I. – Bikers planning to blast through East Greenwich may want to steer clear of the town instead, especially if their exhaust systems aren’t the proper match for their choppers.

The Town Council unanimously passed an emergency ordinance Monday night allowing police to pull over and levy fines against bikers if the noise rating data stamped into the chrome of the exhaust doesn’t match the label on the bike.

The “label matching” program is an indirect attempt to eliminate a noise problem that has been drawing complaints, particularly in the waterfront area of town.

The first offense is $500. It jumps to $700 the second time $1,000 for each third and subsequent violation.

“I hope we don’t have to pull over one single motorcycle,” said Police Chief David Desjarlais. “But if they’re loud and they draw our attention because of the volume of the exhaust, and we find they’re not in compliance, we’re more than willing to write the ticket.”

The ordinance, now in effect, sparked questions Wednesday from Buddy Cardoso, president o f the Rhode Island Motorcycle Association .

“What do you do, throw away the motorcycle if the exhaust wears out?” he said. He said the owners of other vehicles are allowed to use after-market exhaust systems, and it would be unfair to single out bikers.

“If you’re not making too much noise, we’re not going to pull you over in the first place,” said Desjarlais.

Cardoso’s fears are also unfounded, the chief said Wednesday, because after-market exhausts say which motorcycles they were designed for to conform to federal noise-pollution standards.

Under the ordinance, a system would be set up to allow a biker to avoid the fine by bringing in the bikes and having it tested with a noise meter.

But the chief said he doubts that will happen because noisy riders know that the exhaust system they purchased is over the limit.

He said officials in Woonsocket, Cumberland, South Kingstown and Smithfield have already contacted the town, wanting to know how well the ordinance works out for East Greenwich.http://newsblog.projo.com/2009/07/e-greenwich-use.html

Micheline
The Michelin rig in Sturgis.

Michelin Teams With Harley-Davidson For Original Equipment Motorcycle Tire–For the first time in their long history, Michelin and Harley-Davidson have joined forces to develop the all-new MICHELIN Scorcher ?31? tire, which carries both companies? trademarks on its sidewalls and the signature Harley-Davidson logo carved into the shoulder. Available exclusively as original equipment on four 2010 Harley-Davidson Dyna models, the all-new tire was unveiled today at the Harley-Davidson summer dealer meeting in Denver.

?Michelin has specifically engineered this innovative and durable tire to meet the high expectations of Harley-Davidson owners,? said Gary Midkiff, vice president of Michelin North America?s two wheel division. ?Michelin is excited to build upon our successful relationship with Harley-Davidson as we launch this historic first original equipment fitment.?

The MICHELIN Scorcher? ?31? tire delivers superior performance in three key areas, providing sensational grip, impressive durability and excellent handling.

The exclusive deep-cut tread design improves grip and water evacuation capability. Grip performance, particularly on wet pavement, is also enhanced by the tire?s rubber compounds, which use the latest generation of Michelin synthetic polymers.

The new tire?s particularly high mileage is a result of the premium-quality components used in its rubber compounds and Michelin?s exclusive manufacturing process. The result enables the new MICHELIN Scorcher? ?31? tire to deliver truly outstanding durability.

Michelin also wanted to ensure that the tire would provide confidence-inspiring handling, so its Research & Development teams used aramid belts under the rear tread to stabilize the contact patch. In addition, the carcass plies are made from polyester to provide exceptional ride comfort.

As well as being offered as original equipment on 2010 Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide, Super Glide Custom, Street Bob and Low Rider models, the MICHELIN Scorcher ?31? tire can also be fitted on a variety of 2006-2009 Dyna models.

Michelin began offering replacement tires for Harley-Davidson motorcycles in 2007 when select sizes of the MICHELIN Commander and Macadam 50 tires were first tested and validated by Harley-Davidson for fitment on a wide range of Sportster, Dyna, Softail and Touring motorcycles. The introduction of the MICHELIN Scorcher ?31? tire marks the first exclusive Michelin original equipment fitment on Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

FORD APPROVES PPG SX1071 LOW-VOC ETCH PRIMEFOR WARRANTY REPAIR–SSTRONGSVILLE, Ohio ? July 30, 2009 ? Ford Motor Company has approved PPG?s new SX1071 Etch Prime for use in warranty repairs for its vehicles. SX1071, part of the PPG OneChoice? product line, is a low-VOC, 2-component acid etch primer specifically designed to provide excellent adhesion and corrosion resistance to properly prepared steel and aluminum surfaces while offering fast dry characteristics.

?PPG has fully complied with Ford Motor Company aftermarket refinish specifications. SX1071 has our full approval to be used for Ford dealership warranty repairs,? said Gerry Bonanni, senior engineer, Ford Customer Service Division, Paint & Body Technology Center.

The approval comes as a result of rigorous and comprehensive Ford Motor Company technical evaluations that ensure a vehicle will be returned to pre-accident condition, and covers all brands under the Ford umbrella. FROM SPEEDWAY TO LANDSPEED RACING Hi Race Fans, I just received a bit of exciting news from Jeff; the owner of Joker Machine, in California. He bought the last Speedway Longtrack Rolling Chassis I had in stock; with plans of building a bike for use at Bonneville.

He has kept in touch with me concerning the bike build.Bill Cody (North American JRM/Jawa Speedway Importer) had the Czech based factory build a special 500cc engine for this landspeed racing project.

The other day I received a phone call from Jeff telling me he would be sending photos of the finished bikesometime in the near future, and that he has also found a rider. That rider is “The Bullet”.That’s right, Multi Time World and National Speedway Champion Billy “The Bullet” Hamillis going to race at the 2009 BUB Motorcycle Speed Trials on the Famous Bonneville Salt Flats!!Who better than Hamill to ride this speedway based motorcycle.

I thought it was pretty cool, and thought I’d share the news with some of you racing fanatics!!

Gun Nut Report: The 357 Magnum Revolver

SW
Fig. 1: The quintessential .357 magnum double action revolver, the stainless steel Smith & Wesson 686.

Versatile, simple, reliable…

I’ve been getting this question a lot lately. “Panheadache, I’m concerned about what’s happening in this country right now. I don’t know squat about guns, but I feel I need to get something before Reibamalosi hits, and I prefer a pistol…something I can put in my tour pack or saddlebag. What do you suggest?” Most of the questioners are not and will not become what we think of as “Gun Nuts”, but are just average citizens watching their constitutional rights evaporate before their eyes, and are compelled to act. Let’s take a quick look at pistols and make some hard decisions and pick one that will fill the need of the average Joe.

I’ll just cut to the chase and say I own them all, but I recommend a name-brand mid-to-high quality .357 Magnum double-action revolver. Why?

1. Ammo versatility. When the dems finally do crack down, ammo is going to get scarce and expensive. With a .357 you can shoot 38 S&W, 38 Special, or .357’s in your pistol – you may have problems finding one or the other in the future. That’s a luxury permitted by this caliber – take advantage of it. Also, your wife can practice with the 38 ammo with reduced recoil. And when you need it, 357 with blow the shit out of a zombie, nuff said.

2. Simplicity. Face it, with the cost of ammo and range time, most people today practice very little. Also, most people just have very little enthusiasm for repeated training and practice after the initial zeal has worn off. The weapon is going to sit for a long time without use, and then you are going to need it when the alarm goes off at 2:00 AM and you are half asleep. There will be no time to say, “Please mister burglar, I know you are hopped up on horse tranquilizer and are in a hurry, but can you hold off on raping my wife for a minute or two while I try to figure how to rack the slide and let the safety off? Oops it jammed, excuse me…”

The need here is for stone cold functionality when seconds count. Point-and-shoot capability. With a fully loaded double action revolver, all you have to remember is to pick it up, point it at the asshole’s chest, hold on, and start squeezing and don’t stop until it quits going bang.

3. Reliability. Plastic frame semi-autos are taking over, and they have their place. But, they come with baggage. By baggage, I mean magazines, safeties, hammer drops, slides, ejectors, feed ramps, and so on and so on, that all have to be in working condition in order for the weapon to function. If a round jams because of one breakdown you better know how to clear it or mister burglar is going to rip it out of your hands and beat you over the head with it.

An old-school steel revolver is the king as far as (M)ean (T)ime (B)etween (F)ailures, or MBTF, is concerned. For those not versed in the Reliability profession or don’t give a rats ass, the bottom line is this: Keep it in good condition, clean and lubed and loaded, and there is almost no chance of it not performing it’s mission due to some minor part failure.

So, there you have it. I recommend a double action.357. Others will squawk in favor of more complicated semi-auto pistols. For the average Joe,I recommend the reliability of a revolver. Like I’ve stated before: save that gadget money and put it in ammo for practice.

–Panheadache.

BIKERNET PRE STURGIS NEWS FINALE–SHIPPING BIKES WITH KEYBOARD, D&D EXHAUST FOR DRESSERS, NEW BRASS BALLS GIVEAWAY BOBBER WITH IRON WORKS AND PPG MEETS LAMBORGHINI

Continued From Page 3

PPG
This is an example of the new big flake PPG paint.

PPG AND LAMBORGHINI CREATE LATEST PAINT TREND–STRONGSVILLE, Ohio ? July 23, 2009 ? For many years PPG has worked closely with Lamborghini to develop colors that will enhance the design of these prestigious Italian automobiles. The introduction of PPG?s matte finishes created specifically for Lamborghini is set to be the latest automotive fashion style.

Lamborghini was one of the leaders of this trend when it introduced the Black Gallardo in 2006, featuring matte-black body parts. Following this initiative, a growing number of automakers are now using matte finish to highlight particular car body details. PPG is the exclusive supplier to Lamborghini for the matte colors. Lamborghini only recommends the use of PPG products when repairing matte colors.

The exciting progression of matte colors is a direct result of the close collaboration between Lamborghini and PPG Refinish. This led to the development of PPG?s new D8113 clear matte coat, designed to create a sports car effect and to accentuate these models? style.

?All of our matte and special color cars are hand painted. We had to find a product that would not only ensure the aesthetic quality sought by our designers, but also meet the high performance standards required. PPG supported us once again, as it has done throughout the years of our collaboration during all the development stages: from product engineering to quality tests and training program for our Customer Support points,? says Claudio Nannetti, Quality Manager at Automobili Lamborghini. ?The Lamborghini/PPG partnership is extremely successful and has led to excellent results. In over twenty years, we developed many painting processes for a range of different materials, from aluminum to composites, and countless finishes, including four-coat and matte finishes. Today, we are ready for new challenges and new research projects.?

This partnership also involves Lamborghini?s global support network. Achieving the special matte effect that enhances the car?s allure requires specific repair cycles and the use of dedicated, reliable, high-performing products. To ensure that its network was able to make repairs that would maintain and reinforce the brand?s high-quality reputation, a worldwide training program, focusing on matte colors, was initiated for all body shops specializing in the repair of these prestigious automobiles. This ensures that the repairs are carried out by specialized workshops after receiving specific training through PPG?s training centers worldwide, confirming once again the exclusive nature of these models and of matte finish.

Developed by PPG technicians and approved by Lamborghini, these training sessions, focused on the matte finish repair process, are designed to expand the operators? skills in the use of specific painting systems and to allow them to learn techniques that ensure the best final result. Special attention has been placed on the repair of Nemesis black matte paint, one of the hardest to achieve, and on matte clearcoat application and drying time. The course has been shared with all PPG training centers worldwide, creating a unique Lamborghini matte color repair network.

To reinforce its total technical support, PPG also developed a manual, approved by the Lamborghini Aftersales organization, dedicated to the network of body shops specializing in Lamborghini vehicles worldwide and can be accessed by the entire global repair network. This details specific products to be used in each geographical area, depending on different regulations or logistic reasons.

Undercover Cop Arrested for Selling Drugs to an Undercover Cop– In yet another perfect illustration of the colossal stupidity of modern drug enforcement, here’s the story of a drug transaction in which both parties turned out to be police:

An undercover Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputy recently purchased drugs from undercover Statesville police officers, raising questions about communications between the two agencies.

Statesville Police Chief Tom Anderson said undercover officers from his department were working a week-long case when they met with someone interested in selling a small amount of marijuana.?

After the arrest, investigators from the sheriff’s office arrived and confirmed the seller was an undercover deputy and he was released, Anderson said. Good thing they were able to stop that small amount of marijuana they were selling from reaching the streets.

Seriously, this is what happens when you have police posing as perps at every level of the drug business. Drug enforcement is all about creating crimes that would never otherwise have occurred, and there are about a million ways that it can go wrong. As funny as this story is, the harsh reality is that frequently when police sell drugs, it’s not part of a planned operation. It’s because they are actually just straight-up selling drugs .

AB962 Could be Heard as Early as Thursday, July 23 in Sacramento– Please Contact the Senate Appropriations Committee Today! On Monday, July 20 the Senate Appropriations Committee canceled its meeting, delaying a vote on Assembly Bill 962 . It is very possible that AB962 could be taken up at its next meeting, which is currently scheduled for Thursday, July 23. It is important that you continue to contact the committee members in opposition to this bill.

AB962, sponsored by Assembly Member Kevin De Leon (D-45), would make it a crime to privately transfer more than 50 rounds of ammunition per month, even between family and friends, unless you are registered as a ?handgun ammunition vendor? in the Department of Justice?s database. Ammunition retailers would have to be licensed and store ammunition in such a manner that it would be inaccessible to purchasers. The bill would also require purchasers submit to fingerprinting, which would be kept in dealers’ records and subject to inspection by the Department of Justice. Lastly, mail order ammunition sales would be prohibited.

Oakland Hells Angels Say Farewell To Longtime Member–OAKLAND, Calif. — The Hells Angels said goodbye to one of their longtime members on Friday. A funeral service was held in Oakland for Deakon Proudfoot, of the Oakland chapter of the Hells Angels. He was with the motorcycle group for 40 years. It’s said Proudfoot died on the 4th of July. He reportedly watched the fireworks show in Jack London Square, walked off a boat, sat down to catch his breath, smiled and then died.

His given name was Edward Proudfoot, but was called Deakon because he served as chaplain for the group.

KEYboard Shipping Banner

NEED A MOTORCYCLE SHIPPED ANYWHERE? ASK KEYBOARD SHIPPING–The Keyboard Corporation has, from its very beginnings in 1978, been a specialized transporter of high value, relatively heavy, and easily blemished products from the manufacturer/distributor to their dealer network.

At the beginning of the new millennium, a chance meeting between the President of Keyboard and an Indian Motorcycle dealer led to the development of a unique delivery system for the Motorcycle Industry. Dennis Robey, Keyboard?s President, listened as the dealer described the difficulties he experienced in getting delivery of motorcycles from Indian?s plant in Gilroy, CA to his dealership in Kentucky. Deliveries often took weeks and when they finally did arrive, the motorcycles often required expensive and time consuming prep work before they could be seen on the showroom floor.

Dennis developed, from scratch, a completely new platform to be used exclusively in the delivery of uncrated motorcycles. The first 100 of these were fabricated internally (each platform has over one hundred metal parts) and the first load of motorcycles was picked up in Gilroy and delivered to the dealerships personally by Dennis Robey. Within three months, Keyboard was the exclusive carrier of Indian Motorcycles. Although Indian subsequently went bankrupt, their dealers had seen the Keyboard system and had begun spreading the good word.

The following year Keyboard was selected by more than 30 different specialty motorcycle manufacturers as their preferred carrier. Today Keyboard is a major supplier of logistics services to the motorcycle industry and the leading provider of transportation services for uncrated motorcycles thanks in large part to Dennis?s dedication to problem solving and the resulting patented delivery platform.

THAT’S THE EXTENT OF OUR ABJECT EUPHORIA FOR ONE DAY–I’m going to find an icy Corona and ponder my feeble economic fate. Interesting times, ah but what the hell. I’ve never assimilated to a boring existence. About the time I’m comfortable I’d blow up my marriage and started over, built another bike or sought after a new adventure.

The internet is perfect for an ever-changing spirit like myself. We’ve decided, fuck it. We are going to start a blog, face book and twitter program to light a bomb under our current services.

Watch over the next couple of months as we develop 3-minute videos with Bikers Choice and the talented Johnny White in Texas. You’ll see these slap-stick techs launched on my space, in Bikers Choice dealers and around the globe.

I’ll juggle wrenches again this weekend on the 5-Ball Factory Racer as George, “the Wild Brush,” returns the paint and final assembly gets underway. My book is just waiting on the cover art, then it goes to prompt printing. Never a dull moment.

Ride Forever,
