CINCY OR BUST THURSDAY NEWS

Hey,

We are off to Cincy tomorrow,
and with the help of Doc Robinson, the Tech Editor, of Heavy Duty Magazine, the lovely and always patient Nyla, and Ray C. Wheeler, the Bikernet Performance Editor, we have 75 stellar Dealer Show care packages to deliver. We have to take care of the bros.

Let’s hit the news. I need to pack, one of the headquarters toilets is clogged, and I need to take shots of the new S&S air cleaner that just arrived.

NEW BIKERNET TRIKES CONTRIBUTOR CHECKS IN–The Triking Vikings been off roading and doing doughnuts in the mountain snow… I got a great story.

DOC, FROM HEAVY DUTY AUSTRALIA TO CONTRIBUTE TO BIKERNET TRIKES AND BIKERNET BAGGERS–  I arrive on Wednesday, landing at LAX around 10.00 am.  By the time I clear customs and get my rental car, I expect to be arriving at Bikernet HQ around one, just in time to take you to lunch if you wish.
Or at least you will (hopefully) have someone there raise the portcullis and drop the drawbridge to let me in.

I am working on four great trike features, three Harleys and a sensational Rocket 3 with independent rear suspension.  All of which I will make available for your site.

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER REACHES OUT TO THE GOOD DOCTOR–Anti-Inflammatory Diet Makeover: Grocery Shopping Tips– we present tips on the what, why and how of the Dr. Weil-recommended anti-inflammatory diet. Get started today!

Simple steps to help you make your grocery cart a vehicle for healthy living. Use these suggestions the next time you shop for groceries:

* Produce Section: Choose fresh, whole organic produce whenever possible. Fruits and vegetables from all parts of the color spectrum should make up most of your grocery items.

* Canned/Packaged Foods: Choose no- or low-sodium canned and packaged foods.

* Grains, Breads, Cereals and Legumes: Choose products made of whole, intact grains, not white or whole wheat-flour products. Stock up on healthy, inexpensive staples like dried beans and lentils.

* Dairy, Refrigerator Case and Frozen Foods: Avoid anything with carrageenan (which may be irritating to the digestive tract), choose organic, hormone-free dairy products without a lot of added sugar, and choose frozen foods that are organic. Avoid frozen meals that are high in sodium, and instead opt for healthier protein sources such as frozen edamame, omega-3 enriched eggs and fresh tofu.

* Meat/Seafood/Fish: Choose fresh or frozen to widen your selection, and focus on seafood. When buying salmon, always opt for wild-caught Alaskan varieties.

* Healthy Fats: Choose unsalted or low-salt varieties of nuts and seeds that are raw or dry roasted (store seeds in the freezer for freshness) and always choose a high quality extra virgin olive oil or organic, cold-expeller-pressed canola oil for cooking and baking.

NEW STORZ PERFORMANCE SP1200RR CAFÉ RACER SHOW BIKE–Storz Performance has developed a new line of Café Racer style accessories for use on 2004 to current model Harley–Davidson Sportsters. A new show bike, the Storz SP1200RR, has been constructed to serve as a rolling display case for these items. A hand formed aluminum gas tank and road race style fiberglass tail section with custom Saddlemen seat pads creates the basis for the look. Specially modified clip-on handlebars by Driven are mounted to the Storz/ Ceriani 55mm Inverted fork tubes above the top triple clamp. Ohlins rear shocks with adjustments for compression & rebound damping, spring preload, and overall length, complete the suspension package.

The donor bike for this project was a low mileage 2007 model 883 Sportster, but installation of a Wiseco piston kit increased the displacement to the 1200cc level. A BUB / Storz 2:2 high pipe exhaust and a Performance Machine air cleaner handle the breathing chores on this fuel injected bike.

The bike rolls on 18” wheels, front and rear, with Metzeler tires, Galfer Floating Wave Brake Rotors, and Performance Machine brake calipers. A Storz billet rear set footpeg kit, Barnett custom cables, PM hand controls, and a Storz/Ceriani Steering Damper keep things under control. Pearlescent paintwork done by Vintage Restorations, Oxnard, Ca.

The bike will be on display at the Cincy V-Twin Expo in the Wiseco Piston booth on February 4-6, and also at the Indianapolis Powersports Expo, February 17-19, 2012 in the Galfer Brakes booth..

BAGGER FOR AMERICAN IRON BAGGER THEN BIKERNET BAGGERS, MAYBE–Let me explain; I shot his friends bike at this location for American Iron. The bikes and the location are so much the same.

By the way, April American Iron’s April issue that are out in March have a bike from me on the cover.

–Peter Linney

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY ENGLISH DEPARTMENT IDONEOUS VOCABULARY LESSON–idoneous ahy-DOH-nee-uhs, adjective:

Appropriate; fit; suitable; apt.

As far as benefices are concerned no one could be more idoneous, fitting or suitable than Martin, since he is an Anglican clergyman.
— Patrick O’Brian, The Truelove

It would hardly be possible to apply less idoneous adjectives to it than Watson’s reiterated “wailing” and “haunting.”
— Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, The Adventure of the Mazarin Stone

Idoneous is derived from the Latin word idoneus which meant “suitable.”

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY HISTORY CLASS NOW OPEN–  At local taverns, pubs, and bars, people drank from pint and quart-sized containers. A bar maid’s job was to keep an eye on the customers and keep the drinks coming. She had to pay close attention and remember who was drinking in ‘pints’ and who was drinking in ‘quarts,’ hence the phrase ‘minding your ‘P’s and Q’s’.

One more: bet you didn’t know this!
In the heyday of sailing ships, all war ships and many freighters carried iron cannons. Those cannons fired round iron cannon balls.

It was necessary to keep a good supply near the cannon. However, how to prevent them from rolling about the deck? The best storage method devised was a square-based pyramid with one ball on top, resting on four resting on nine, which rested on sixteen. Thus, a supply of 30 cannon balls could be stacked in a small area right next to the cannon.

There was only one problem…how to prevent the bottom layer from sliding or rolling from under the others. The solution was a metal plate called a ‘Monkey’ with 16 round indentations. However, if this plate were made of iron, the iron balls would quickly rust to it. The solution to the rusting problem was to make ‘Brass Monkeys.’

Few landlubbers realize that brass contracts much more and much faster than iron when chilled. Consequently, when the temperature dropped too far, the brass indentations would shrink so much that the iron cannonballs would come right off the monkey; Thus, it was quite literally, ‘Cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey.’

NEW PRINT FROM GROSSMAN–Here’s a sneak peak at the latest print from notorious hot rod/biker artist Larry Grossman. Titled “LUCK OF THE DRAW AT LUCKY’S LAST STOP”, this exciting and amazingly detailed Lithograph (a high quality poster) measures 18 x 24″ and is printed on the highest quality 100lb. cover stock paper. It features choppers, rods, kustoms, hot babes and bad-ass dudes …what more could you want for chrissakes!

Larry’s take on the scene:

Lucky’s Last Stop Casino is a seedy desert watering hole situated somewhere between Reno and Hell. Known far and wide as the place to go for a damn good time, customers straggle in from the blistering heat because they know they can get whatever they need at Lucky’s …from whiskey, to poker, to one of Lucky’s girls (as it says above the door: Loose Slots).

A member of the notorious “Stompers” bike gang out of Vegas has just roared up on his metalflaked chopper. But this may not be his lucky day, as he’s outnumbered by several mean-looking hombres, all members of rival bike gang “Dealers in Death”, who are not looking too happy to see him! Everyone’s packin’ heat, so let’s just hope no stray slugs hit that slick black scalloped ’57 Cad Kustom, or dapper looking Lucky by the door …or a gas pump!

Meanwhile, cruising by on the highway is an ol’ skool ’33 Ford chopped rod, and passing overhead is a huge B-36 Bomber, probably on approach to the nearby top-secret Air Force base, Area 51.

Visit: www.retrovisions.com to buy it and also see more of Larry ‘s Art, or call : (818) 907-8626 after 9am Pacific Time, paleeeze!   He can even put your bike and/or car (and you or whoever) into any of his pictures!

Keith Ball of Bikernet Acquires Genevieve Schmitt’s Trike Riders Now–
Web sites join forces creating largest family of Web-based motorcycle magazines.

February 1, 2012 – (Wilmington, Calif.) – Keith Ball, editor and owner of Bikernet.com, the oldest and well read V-twin motorcycle magazine online, has acquired TrikeRidersNow.com, an online magazine covering the three-wheeled industry. Trike RidersNow.com was launched in 2009 by Genevieve Schmitt, editor and owner of WomenRidersNow.com. Schmitt will join Ball in creating the Bikernet online portal where visitors can find four motorcycle magazines, Bikernet, Bikernet Trikes (formerly Trike Riders Now, Bikernet Baggers, and Women Riders Now, creating the largest family of motorcycle Web sites.

“I am excited to add trikes to the Bikernet family,” said Ball. “The trike market is one of the fastest growing segments of the powersports industry. That, along with our new bagger site and Genevieve’s Women Riders Now magazine, we’ll provide online motorcycle enthusiasts all the information they want from one family of Web sites. More importantly, we can offer advertisers opportunities to reach a wider variety of readers online.”

“I couldn’t have found a better person than that bastard Ball to take over Trike Riders Now at this time,” said Genevieve Schmitt. “By handing over the reins to Keith and his staff, I can focus on expanding WomenRidersNow.com, which in its seven years of existence has firmly planted itself as the leader in motorcycling news, reviews and information aimed at women.”

While Ball becomes the new owner of Trike Riders Now, Women Riders Now is still completely owned by Schmitt. However, by being part of the Bikernet family of sites and cross-linking them to each other, advertisers have greater opportunities to target their campaigns.

To reach Genevieve Schmitt, call 406.333.4491, or email Gschmitt@WomenRidersNow.com.

GATEWOOD ENGINEERING AND RACE SUPPORT–Though, as with most of our projects they go along slowly; I still thought I would share the newest arrival.
A friend of mine who races a top fuel V-Twin has a man near Chicago who makes his cylinders, and he made these for me.

1000cc XL cylinder base bolt pattern (will have to bore cases larger), and Shovelhead head bolt pattern: 3 7/16” Bore, and 5” stroke w/ 8” rods. 93 cu in/1520cc SHOVESTER.

He wanted a custom rigid chopper frame I had; so we traded for these cylinders, Con. Rods, and a box full of misc. Andrews Trans. gears

The jugs are CNC machined from solid ductile cast iron round stock. I sure love the looks of sharp machining.

Admittedly, it is old technology, but will make a fun skinny slick ’60s style bracket bike for my Son to drag race.

ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLES FROM ZERO–Zero Motorcycles ships faster, longer-range 2012 models–Zero Motorcycles says that its all-new 2012 lineup of faster, longer-range electric motorcycles is now in full production. Dealers can expect to see the models hitting the marketplace throughout the first quarter.

The company celebrated the start of production Dec. 15 with the rollout of its first new 2012 Zero DS. Management and staff greeted the model with applause and excitement, the company reports.

“It’s an amazing feeling to watch the fruition of so much hard work and effort as it comes into being and becomes something that is so special and unique,” said Scot Harden, vice president of global marketing for Zero Motorcycles. “We are very proud of our dedicated team at Zero Motorcycles. Without their passion and dedication to building the very best electric motorcycle, we wouldn’t be in the position we are today. The progress being made is phenomenal, every model in the lineup goes faster, further and is more fun than ever before.”

The 2012 product line had had it debut this past November at EICMA in Milan, Italy.

The Zero S, a streetfighter, and Zero DS, a dual-sport, are both available in a 6 or 9 kWh configuration. As measured by the EPA UDDS, the Zero S is capable of respectively achieving 76 or 114 miles on a single charge. Both motorcycles offer a higher top speed, with the Zero DS hitting 80 mph and the Zero S topping out at 88 mph. Both motorcycles, Zero notes, offer a broad torque band and stealthy acceleration from a standstill.

All the street models, including the Zero XU designed for inner city riding, feature new brushless air-cooled motors and regenerative braking that allow riders to recoup energy during deceleration. The Zero XU now uses the same maintenance-free belt drive system as the Zero S and Zero DS.

Zero says that the new Z-Force power pack found in all the models uses an entirely new battery cell chemistry and configuration that is up to 95 percent more energy dense and is rated to 3,000 complete charge cycles before hitting 80 percent capacity. This means that a Zero S could travel as much as 308,000 miles on its original power pack.

The all-new Zero X and MX dirtbikes also receive upgrades in styling, performance and range. According to Zero, the models have three times the range of previous Zero X and MX models, with substantially more power on tap.

Starting MSRPs are as follows: Zero S, $11,495; Zero DS, $11,495; Zero XU, $7,695; Zero MX, $9,495; Zero X, $9,945.

NEW BILL IN KENTUCKY– We have a bill that we are working on at this time H.B. 328. I ask that you call the legislative hotline at 1-800-372-7181 and leave the following message for your State Representative: “Please Co-sponsor H.R. 328.” If you do not know who your representative is which can be tricky right now due to redistricting just tell the folks at the phone center your address and they will be glad to help you out. You can also look it up by clicking on this link:

http://lrc.ky.gov/Legislators.htm

So the next question I am sure you are asking is what is H.B. 328 and why should I be calling to support it. This bill seeks to address two items. First is a long-standing problem here in KY of folks riding around on their instructional permits for years and years and years. Under current law a person can renew their motorcycle learner’s permit forever. They just have to go back to the county clerk’s office every 3 years and pay the fee. Bad part is that a good chunk of these folks along with others who have not even tried to get their learner’s permit are involved in about half of all accidents here in KY.

In 2010 for example we had about 2000 accidents that were reported. Of those a little over 800 had either a learner’s permit or no license at all. Now when these folks are out on the road on a permit they are supposed to be riding in the daytime, no passengers and with a helmet. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. So you can see how the numbers get skewed by folks who are already breaking the current law which gives lawmakers another reason to try and add even more laws like a mandatory helmet law for example.

The second issue the bill seeks to remedy is a problem, which occurred when the graduated licensing program began a few years back. In that bill it increased the age at which you could even obtain a motorcycle learner’s permit to 18. So, what is wrong with that? Most people may not think about this but KY statute defines anything on 2 or 3 wheels over 50ccs as a motorcycle. Those Vespas and other scooters are technically a motorcycle and you need an endorsement to be able to ride them. Especially in the larger towns like Louisville, Lexington, and Northern KY, these type vehicles are used on a regular basis by the 16-21 crowd among others. Right now there is no way for a 16 or 17 year old to obtain a learner’s permit to ride one of these type machines.

Additionally we have a law on the books for the 16 and 17 year olds which allow them to take the rider-ed course here in the state for FREE and get their motorcycle endorsement. However, they cannot get their endorsement without a permit first. But you cannot get a permit, so why even take the class. See the dilemma? This bill would move the age at which a person could get their motorcycle permit back to 16 1/2 which is when they can get their intermediate driver’s license. Hopefully more kids will go on to take the FREE course as well.

So how is the bill going to address that 1st problem? Glad you asked. A person would have 2 years to get their full motorcycle endorsement just like they do now. You would take the written test and receive your learner’s permit. Now it would be good for one year however and you could renew it once. This would give a person 2 years to complete the process of getting a permit and taking the skills test to get their full endorsement. If they still cannot get their endorsement after 2 years they can still obtain one. They must take an approved rider-ed course and by doing so they will get a card to take to their county clerk for their full endorsement. This bill seeks to address the issues of people without licenses, lack of training and getting the youth more involved and trained as well.

Please be sure to call 1-800-372-7181 and ask your House member to Please Co-sponsor H.R. 328.

Last but not least we will be having a meet your legislator day at the Capitol Annex

Feb. 22nd at 10am.

Please meet in the Annex main cafeteria at 10am and folks will be going to meet their Reps. and Senators later that day. The Senate Transportation Committee meets that day at Noon so be sure to stop by there and talk with those folks as well. Just please come to the Annex Cafeteria at 10am and look for Dave Webster and/or Dave Newman. They can help tell you where you need to go. See you there.

UNCLE MONKEY LOVES TOOLS–That’s right, I love tools. There is nothing more satisfying then going to do a job having the right tool for the job. With the exception of a few specialties tools most bike work can be done with common hand tools and I’ve got a good selection of tools, more then enough to tinker on motorcycles. Being from Canada I’ve also got metric tools along for the ride. You won’t find me getting tripped up by a simple 10mm bolt.

I am hoping to expand my tool collection though. My uncle was a handyman and a machinist. He never worked a day in his life, but always filled his days tinkering away making things and repairing this and that for neighbours. Most of my memories of him revolve around him making things whether it was by stoking the fire in the forge he had constructed or working away at his lathe in “his” shop right next to it on our farm.

The lathe was a mysterious thing growing up. The many knobs and dial served their purposes to my imagination and me. It was the bridge of my space ship as I raced across galaxies with Luke and Han Solo in a frantic war to defeat the evil Empire. My uncle was not impressed. Instead of scolding and banishing me from his “kingdom” he took me under his wing and showed my how to use the master machine. My uncle kept his lathe running by building parts for it on it. Lathes are unique in that they are the only tool that can make themselves. He showed me that tools were to be appreciated and respected and not slammed into gear chasing a TIE wing fighter.

My uncle passed away a couple years ago. Like most old bachelors his stuff was divided up amongst his brothers and sister with most of it ending up in the garbage dump. Most except his tools. His tools live on, barely, stored away in dark, damp buildings collecting rust, fading from memory. No one has come to claim them; no one has come to maintain them. I am hoping that my family will finally pass the lathe onto me. I’m hoping to restore it to its former glory. I’m hoping to let the master machine do what it was designed to do. I’m hoping the art of machining can live on through me. Who knows? Maybe the fate of my universe still lies in these hands.

SIDEHACK JERRY ON THE NATION–  When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

US HOUSE COMMITTEE TARGETS FEDERAL FUNDING OF MOTORCYCLE ONLY ROADSIDE CHECKPOINTS– The Motorcycle Riders Foundation reports that Wednesday, February 1st, the United States House of Representatives Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure rolled out the latest version of the highway bill. The bill is the long term funding bill for road construction and highway programs.

This version of the bill takes aim at a controversial practice of the Department of Transportation which funded motorcycle-only roadside checkpoints with taxpayer dollars.

The checkpoints have drawn much criticism from the motorcycle community at large. So much so, that longtime motorcycle champion Representative James Sensenbrenner (R-WI) had introduced legislation to end the program by prohibiting any future Federal funding of any motorcycle-only roadside checkpoints. That bill is HR 904. The mammoth highway bill includes the same language as contained in HR 904.

Representative Sensenbrenner had this to say, “We need to focus on proven methods of motorcycle safety, including crash prevention, rider education, and training and proper licensing. Motorcycle-only checkpoints are an intrusive governmental overreach that place an undue burden on riders while doing little to actually improve safety,” He added, “It is encouraging to see that the transportation reauthorization bill will encourage more efficient use of taxpayer dollars and smart motorcycle safety policy.”

Representative Tom Petri (R-WI), a staunch defender of the motorcyclists, had this comment on the issue, “Motorcycle riders are right to be outraged at being singled out for safety inspections,” Petri said. “Nobody is suggesting flagging cars down for unscheduled inspections, and there’s no good reason why motorcycles should be treated differently. It’s unnecessarily intrusive, and not a smart way to use limited police resources.”

We at the MRF could not agree more. While swift passage into law is not likely, this is certainly an encouraging step.

The MRF will keep you updated on this issue–become a member.

LOCAL ABATE STATE GROUP SUPPORTS THE MOTORCYCLE RIDERS FOUNDATION– At the January BOD meeting, the BOD was informed of the current budget shortfall that the MRF is experiencing. Because of this, the ABATE BOD decided to donate $1000 to the MRF in addition to the $1000 that we normally donate in September at Meeting of the Minds.

ACE CAFÉ NEWS, Cafe Racers – A passion from Poland–On Friday 16th March, friends Krzysztof Panczak of www.moto-klinika.pl and Arkadiusz Pawlukowicz of www.szajba.eu.org will be arriving from Poland to debut their latest bike builds at Ace Cafe London, from 6pm.

Arkadiusz’ love affair with motorcycles dates from his childhood and, since 2006, he has taken part in quarter mile drag races at Santa Pod, testing a highly tuned turbo-charged Hayabusa and setting an unofficial speed record of 309km/h. In 2007 he also started his own business, Szajba’s Garage, which has since developed to become a professional customising and tuning establishment with a store offering motorcycle parts and specialist components. The motorcycles built by Arkadiusz include the “Cedzior Streetfighter”, which took first place at both the Polish Motorcycle Championship and FighteRama (Germany) in 2010 and then again with a first at the 2011 Central European Custom Motorcycle Championship at the Euro Bike Fest.

Not long after finishing high school, in 2000 Krzysztof took part in the first Polish Transiberian Motorcycle Expedition, riding a 1954 Jawa and today regularly takes part in vintage motorcycle racing, with good results, to include gaining 3rd place in the Czech Tourist Trophy in 2011! In 2007 he established his own company Moto-Klinika where he specialises in the building of bikes for road racing, as well as cafe racers and old school motorcycles, alongside working on modern machines.

THE SHOW AT VERONA IS ONE OF THE LEADING SHOWS DURING THE WINTERSEASON IN EUROPE–  I GUESS 130 000 PEOPLE FROM EVERYWHERE SHOWED UP. GOOD FUN IN TYROL OF NORTHERN ITALY– judges will have to choose among all the Bikes present in Verona, each winner (the prize ceremony will take place Sunday January the 22nd immediately after the CCE Championship prize ceremony, Hall 1 on the MBE Stage), will obtain coverage in the magazine by which it will be selected.

Hot Bike is dedicated to Harley-Davidson enthusiasts and Jordan Mastagni, who cooperates with the magazine since 5 years, is the Senior Editor. Each month it covers the spectrum of the latest and newest trends in the American V-Twin industry, from in-depth technical articles to coverage of the globe’s hottest custom bikes. The Magazine’s prestige and Mr Mastagni’s vast knowledge of motorcycles in general contribute to the high level of the Magazine Award.

One of the hottest news is the new bike that Danny Schneider of the Hardnine Choppers is building expressly for Verona. It is a 1950 Triumph Tiger Club Flat Tracker and a preview (pictures) is coming directly from his garage. After his success with the Triumph invited to Mike Lichter Show, to the Artistry in Iron Show of Las Vegas and to the Yokohama Mooneyes Show, a new fantastic creation is expected from this versatile and ebullient customizer and will for sure cause an uproar.

In the meantime his collaborator René has almost finished a Yamaha XS, designed for Verona.  The Hardnine Choppers was born in Bern in 2002, the company made its qualitative leap in 2005 with the first complete realizations, but the real turning point came in 2008 when Danny was the first Swiss Customizer to be invited to the Yokohama Mooneyes Show in Japan. The great success achieved in Japan was then confirmed by the third placement in the World AMD Championship (Harley Modified class) in Sturgis.

From Germany is coming back to Motor Bike Expo also Fred Kodlin, the Customizer who above all, till the early 90’, stole the Show in Europe, setting out styles and trends, before coming to the US market. He won many times the Daytona Bike Week and he is always admired for his capacity of being always innovative even respecting his essential style as strong point.

Always from Europe, precisely from Austria, comes Peter Penz, who started to work on bikes in 1983, in the beginning he did it as an hobby, painting them with an innovative design. In 1996 his passion became a real job that reserved great satisfactions and recognitions at an international level till nowadays.

He is famous also for his activity of frame builder, for which he is appreciated all over Europe.

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER HEAVY BUSINESS STUDY–FOUR Steps to Naturally Whiter Teeth.
If you are a cola, coffee, tea or red wine drinker, you may experience discolored teeth. Actually, any food or drink capable of staining clothes or carpets – including fruit juices, blueberries, soy sauce and curry – can also stain teeth. While the best way to get rid of persistent stains is with professional teeth cleaning, you can help prevent stains – new or recurring – with the following:

* Rinse your mouth with plain water after you drink or eat staining foods and beverages.

* Brush your teeth twice a day with a whitening toothpaste; many natural-ingredient-based toothpaste lines such as Tom’s of Maine now have whitening varieties.

* Floss daily (stains around the edges of your teeth can occur when plaque accumulates at the gum line and absorbs color from food and drink).

* Sip temperate fluids through a straw, which minimizes contact with teeth.

Be cautious about over-the-counter teeth whitening kits, and talk with your dentist about professional options. You should be aware that any method of tooth bleaching may, over time, break down the integrity of the teeth. That can leave them more susceptible to future stains. Tooth sensitivity is a common side effect of teeth whitening but usually decreases over time.

GUN NUT REPORT–What is the smallest caliber you trust to protect yourself?
My personal favorite defense gun has always been a Beretta Jetfire in 22 short. I have carried it for many years including while hiking. I never leave without it in my pocket. Of course the first rule when hiking in the wilderness is to use the “Buddy System”. This it means you NEVER hike alone, you bring a friend, companion or even an in-law because if something happens there is someone to go get help.
I remember one time while hiking with my brother-in-law in northern Alberta out of nowhere came this huge brown bear charging us and was she mad. We must have been near one of her cubs.
Anyway, if I had not had my little Jetfire I would not be here today. Just one shot to my brother-in-law’s knee cap and I was able to escape by just walking at a brisk pace.

2011 EVE Thursday News

Happy New Year, goddamnit,

It’s cold in the shop this morning, although the California Sun is shining and the rain departed yesterday–good riddance. My fingers are still cold on the keyboard, as I ponder what to lead the news with.

Tomorrow is New Years Eve, and as I blow a mouthful of warm breath into my palms, I’m pondering a ride into Beverly Hills to see an antique bike collection, and discuss bikes with a handful of collectors on the Eve of 2011.

As of tomorrow night I have one month for finish my 1%er book for motorbooks. I’m stumbling with the last five chapters, the climax and the ending. I made a decision, about an hour ago. I’m going to get up a 5:00 each morning of January, so uninterrupted, I can ramble through each chapter. Then I’m headed out to the desert, where I will scour through each chapter with the subject of this book. I need more details, and impressions, to fill in the blanks.

It’s interesting, the nature of writing books. It’s not about fancy words and rambling sentences, but guts. In a sense, it’s like painting a moving picture, adding smells, sounds, action, and emotions, all through the words on a page. Let’s hit the news, then I’ll tell you about Bikernet plans for the new year:

ACE CAFÉ 10TH ANNIVERSARY–Ace Cafe London’s 10th anniversary of having fully reopened, kicks off with the countdown to 2011 at the cafe’s annual New Years Eve Party, featuring The Blue Flames, with their ever popular rockin’ sounds, together with DJ’s Bill & Jimmy Guntrip on the decks hosting a very special evening.

The Midnight madness will be preceded by an all inclusive Chicken & Chips Supper, as well as a free to enter prize draw raffle, to include a pair of entry tickets to the forthcoming Race Retro Show, plus goodies from Lucky 13, T-Bird Records and the Ace.

9pm – 2am

EMERGENCY MEMO FROM THE BIKERNET INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT CONTROL TOWER– A New Jersey Congressman (John Adler) called to make reservations, ”I want to go from Chicago to Rhino, New York.”

I was at a loss for words. Finally, I said, ”Are you sure that’s the name of the town?”

‘Yes, what flights do you have?” replied the man.

After some searching, I came back with, ”I’m sorry, sir, I’ve looked up every airport code in the country and can’t find a rhino anywhere.”

”The man retorted, ”Oh, don’t be silly! Everyone knows where it is. Check your map!”

So I scoured a map of the state of New York and finally offered, ”You don’t mean Buffalo , do you?”

The reply? ”Whatever! I knew it was a big animal.”

–from Irving M.

MORE REVIEWS HEADED TO BIKERNET– I’ve got a couple of little projects that I’m wrapping up that I thought you might be interested in posting on Bikernet.
The first is a review of Bill Hayes’ new book: American Biker. Very impressive book that I felt compelled to write about. I’d contributed a short piece on the Gypsy MC in his Boozefighter book so I’ve been really looking forward to his new release.

The second is an unlikely subject for a Bikernet publication … it’s a review of the new MacBook Air. I’d been looking for the ultimate “saddlebag companion” and I think the Air hits the mark. I do a lot of traveling and always like to have some sort of computer with me. This article focuses on the challenge of maintaining capability while conserving space.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY WORD FOR 2011 FROM THE ENGLISH CLASS:
malleable MAL-ee-uh-buhl, adjective–

1. Capable of being extended or shaped by beating with a hammer, or by the pressure of rollers; — applied to metals.
2. Capable of being altered or controlled by outside forces; easily influenced.
3. Capable of adjusting to changing circumstances; adaptable.

His image for his own imagination is the acid, the catalyst, that is mixed in to make the gold malleable, and is then wiped away.
— “Nothing is too wonderful to be true”, Times (London), June 7, 2000

The natives proved less malleable and far less innocent than the Europeans imagined, so much so that early colonial history is filled with countless stories of monks who met hideous deaths at the hands of their flocks.
— Juan Gonzalez, Harvest of Empire

I think his request was just a vainglorious way of expressing the basic belief of behaviorism: that children are malleable and that it is their environment, not innate qualities such as talent or temperament, that determines their destiny.
— Judith Rich Harris, The Nurture Assumption

Malleable comes from Medieval Latin malleabilis, from malleare, “to hammer,” from Latin malleus, “hammer.”

THE BIKERNET BEIJING TRAFFIC REPORT–Beijing – At least seven people died and 15 were injured Monday in a pile-up involving about 100 vehicles on a fog-bound expressway in south-western China’s Guizhou province.

The pile-up started when a truck crashed into a petrol station in Zunyi county about 8 am (0000 GMT), the official Xinhua news agency reported from Zunyi.

After the initial collision, at least 100 other vehicles crashed into each other, causing a 20-kilometre tailback, the agency quoted firefighters as saying.

Heavy fog still limited visibility to about 50 metres by mid-morning, it said.

China records an average of about 200 deaths per day in road accidents, but the World Health Organization has previously estimated the daily total of Chinese pedestrians, drivers, cyclists and others killed at more than twice the official figure.//DPA

BIKERNET STAFF EVALUATES THE RANDALL DOCTRINE–  Hey, good start to the draft and the direction . Here’s my 2 cents to making America free – once more.

1. Some Title Ideas
Getting Freedom To Come Back To America
Bringing Back America’s Freedom Mindset
Freedom Under Attack- Where do we go from here?
The Rise & Fall of Freedom in America.
Where have all the freedom fighters gone?

2. Directions Suggested
a) Education Over Legislation
b) Personal Responsibility
c) Desire To Honor Freedom

Marc’s Notes:
Suggest you define “freedom” Keith as you see it for your reader. Do it early in your article. It’s my belief that the definition as been so watered down by politicians, bureaucrats and the public school system that there’s an entire generation out there who can’t relate to freedom like we bikers understand it.

Many people today are growing up in a world where freedom, is becoming a lost cultural issue. They are defining freedom as “free” “dom” – everything for f’n free.

I believe that in this type of article you will also need to define “personal responsibility”. What does it specifically mean to be personally responsible?
Many don’t have a clue about it. This is why so many people look for lifetime employment with the government or some other entitlement.

In my opinion, personal responsibility is about pursuing destiny on your own as you see your picture of your destiny to be. It’s not about the government creating your direction and lot in life — “you” are in charge, “you” have to dream, “you” are responsible for making those dreams happen. Otherwise, you are encouraging the government to dream for you and that only leads to mediocrity at best and total loss of your freedoms at worse.
War! Military! Freedom?

Hey, I am a huge supporter of the military but let’s get real. The government has sent our warriors into the abyss on some vague mission. They are supposed to be fighting for “freedom” not running foreign countries whose thousand year legacies are welded into their core and caves.
Test your definition of freedom against the current mission in Afghanistan? WTF?

The Constitution.
I love it. Took me 10 years to become an American. And a proud one I am. But shit man, America’s political machine is driving the original intent of our Constitution crazy and rendering it towards becoming so watered down to the point of not being recognizable in the next generation.

I believe you need to specifically mention the parts of the constitution that relate to the “desire to honor freedom” so that the reader can connect the dots about what it means to “honor freedom”.

Other Points:
Hey, you may want to say something about the “new normal” as it relates to economics and freedom. Times are going to stay tough for many Americans for a long time I’m afraid. This “new economic normal” is forcing a lot of Americans to take on a “hunker down” mindset instead of kicking ass and changing their situations on their own. Let alone have the energy to fight for freedom at home.

For example, here’s what I see in my business world – the insurance business.
Retirement for many is now a pipe dream. Traditional pension plans have all but disappeared. Only 15% of Americans have such a plan according to the Employee Benefits Research Institute. Many will “need” government and they’ll be willing to give up freedoms as a result.
We lost the last decade of investments.
Stocks have posted returns of only 4% (S&P) since 2000. This sucks and is ripping freedom out of reach for many. Without financial freedom, there is no freedom.
One third of home values, a pot of retirement for many, is gone.

Boomers, lovers of freedom, are financially shell shocked. Few have savings of any significance. As a result, the chasing of “freedom” as we bikers define it may not be a priority for many boomers. Many are just trying to survive.

Medical costs are a killer of “freedom” Bro. Why? Because the average American can’t afford their medical insurance coverage. The government wants to take it over and “provide” it to citizens. Guess what this does to freedom? Kills it. Enslaves the people. Limited choices, death panels, rationed care, etc. result.

Bottom line, challenging circumstances in the past three years have created a blockade compromising the pursuit of happiness and freedom in America.  I believe that these times are pushing freedom aside as we know it to a second place in people’s lives. This is why I believe a clear, crisp definition of “freedom” is required for your article to resonate and make sense with the freedom fighters out there.
It’s also why I believe the timing of your article is perfect. People need to get back to what real freedom means and be willing to sacrifice to get it back.

The Tools:
Like the “Freedom Council” idea. I would not use the word committee has it has a connotation of all talk and no action. Members best be heavy weights or sphere of influence will be low.
Love the education over legislation idea. You’ll need a strong politician on your side here to get the political lobbying clout to sell the concept in the halls of power.
Hey, my 2 cents is free to friends. Good luck with the Mantra of 2011. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

–Cigar Marc.

ECONOMIC LESSON FROM AUSTRALIA– Had a mate around today who use to work for me when I had my bicycle shops and manufacturing plant.

He being Clive Burrows produced a photograph of what we believe was the last Australian Bicycle manufactured at my Frankston factory.

The big guns being Malvern Star, Repco, Hallmark etc had already started to import from Japan, Korea and Taiwan whilst I continued to produce an Australian product until alas I could no longer compete.

2010 DARWIN AWARDS CONTINUED–
4th Place
Sylvester Briddell, Jr., 26, was killed as he won a bet with friends who said he would not put a revolver loaded with four bullets into his mouth and pull the trigger.

3rd Place
After walking around a marked police patrol car parked at the front door, a man walked into H&J Leather & Firearms intent on robbing the store. The shop was full of customers and a uniformed officer was standing at the counter. Upon seeing the officer, the would-be robber announced a hold-up and fired a few wild shots from a target pistol. The officer and a clerk promptly returned fire and several customers also drew their guns and fired. The robber was pronounced dead at the scene by Paramedics. Crime scene investigators located 47 expended cartridge cases in the shop. The subsequent autopsy revealed 23 gunshot wounds. Ballistics identified rounds from 7 different weapons. No one else was hurt.

HONOURABLE MENTION
Paul Stiller, 47, and his wife Bonnie were bored just driving around at 2 a.m. So they lit a stick of dynamite to toss out the window to see what would happen. Apparently they failed to notice the window was closed

RUNNER UP
Kerry Bingham had been drinking with several friends when one of them said they knew a person who had bungee-jumped from a local bridge in the middle of traffic. The conversation grew more heated and at least 10 men trooped along the walkway of the bridge at 4:30 a.m. Upon arrival at the midpoint of the bridge they discovered that no one had brought a bungee rope. Bingham, who had continued drinking, volunteered and pointed out that a coil of lineman’s cable lay nearby. They secured one end around Bingham’s leg and then tied the other (!) to the bridge. His fall lasted 40 feet before the cable tightened and tore his foot off at the ankle. He miraculously survived his fall into the icy water and was rescued by two nearby fishermen. Bingham’s foot was never located.

AND THE WINNER IS…
Zookeeper Friedrich Riesfeldt ( Paderborn , Germany ) fed his constipated elephant 22 doses of animal laxative and more than a bushel of berries, figs and prunes before the plugged-up pachyderm finally got relief. Investigators say ill-fated Friedrich, 46, was attempting to give the ailing elephant an olive oil enema when the relieved beast unloaded. The sheer force of the elephant’s unexpected defecation knocked Mr. Riesfeldt to the ground where he struck his head on a rock as the elephant continued to evacuate 200 pounds of dung on top of him. It seems to be just one of those freak accidents that proves…. ‘shit happens’.
IT ALWAYS SEEMS IMPORTANT TO THANK THESE PEOPLE FOR REMOVING THEMSELVES FROM THE GENE POOL!

WHEELER RACING PERFORMANCE REPORT–  Peeled out of Long Beach this afternoon at 2 arrived San Jose 1/2 past 6, quite the white liner through Ventura and all points headed North, since I decided on riding the scenic 101.

Willie will be calling and returning your chains, Thanks for the offer. The good Dr. Willie in Long Beach dialed my Dyna’s suspension to the nuts, realigned the primary chain (.005) run out, Fisher Harmonic Balancer, fresh Rivera hub, plates, steels and a Lock Up Unit to top it off with a fresh Subaki rear chain. BIKERNET AD OF THE WEEK– *If you are not a Ford fan, that’s ok, but please watch this commercial, it’s not what you think, and it’s one of the best ways to promote a product I’ve ever seen. Loved it, it touches the heart.*

This can put a tear in your eye.

Ford has not accepted a penny from the government bailout and should be marketing their action. But in my mind they have chosen to take a higher road …a road with class. Enjoy this to the very end.

Ford out did themselves with this commercial.

They have now come up with a timely and heartwarming product commercial that would make Henry Ford proud of the company he founded in 1903.
To be completely honest you may want a Kleenex tissue nearby while watching this. Very special indeed!

GUN NUT REPORT FROM TEXAS– And that does not include those of us who do not hunt but have the means too. – the firepower.

–Sam

The world’s largest army? Could just be America’s hunters! I don’t spend my fall weekends tramping around the woods in pursuit of a buck, but a lot of my friends and neighbors do.
This blogger adds up all the hunters in just a handful of states, and comes to a striking conclusion:
The state of Wisconsin has gone an entire deer hunting season without someone getting killed. That’s great. There were over 600,000 hunters.

Allow me to restate that number. Over the last two months, the eighth largest army in the world – more men under arms than Iran ; more than France and Germany combined – deployed to the woods of a single American state to help keep the deer menace at bay.

But that pales in comparison to the 750,000 who are in the woods of Pennsylvania this week. Michigan ‘s 700,000 hunters have now returned home. Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia , and it is literally the case that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world.

The point? America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grown firepower.

Hunting — it’s not just a way to fill the freezer. It’s a matter of national security.

FXRS RULE, BIKE OF THE YEAR FOR 2011–We are on a quest for 2011 to build two FXRs and ride them to Sturgis. We want to build two Evo powered FXRs as the best H-D configuration ever built. We need a slogan, like Evos Forever, Forever Evos.

We are having some fun with the competition between Evos and Twin Cams. Evos are the final refinement of the pure V-twin engine heritage. These engines couldn’t be more simple and efficient. We believe the factory went too far with the Twin Cam, although we admit, begrudgingly, to some benefits. The pure simplicity of the Evo configuration has been proven and tested from ’84 to ’99 and proved itself to be the best of the best.

Besides, from a economically viable platform, there’s nothing better, more simple, easier to work on, with plenty of parts available, and performance options galore. We are going to work with Branch Okeefe flowmetrics and Bennett’s Performance to pump up the horsepower without over doing the engine platform. How about an 80-inch Evo with 100 horsepower, with some headwork and a cam. Watch for reports right here.

LONG BEACH UTIMATE BUILDER COMPETITION SHINES WITH DIVERSITY– The Long Beach Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show was the 4th in the new series of custom bike shows sponsored by the International Motorcycle Shows, Harley-Davidson, Yamaha, Star Motorcycles and Bikernet.COM. “Not only did the Long Beach Show have the most entries to date it also displayed best diversity of styles,” stated Bob Kay of Biker Pros, the show promoter.

In the Performance Custom Class we saw a “78 café styled Yamaha SR 500, a replica “37 Indian board tracker, a Spitfire Supercomp styled after an XR 750, an NHRA inspired Boss Hoss and the winner, a 08 stretched out Hayabusa.

In the Modified Harley Class we saw a slick “02 Dyna Wide Glide, a blacked out “08 street Glide, a 02 V-Rod with a race styled side hack, and a super charged 07 Nite Train and the winner, a bobber styled classic “53 Panhead.

In the Free Style Class we saw an extreme stretched out bagger, a 75 XLCH rigid, an Evo powered Bay Area styled Chopper, a “47 custom Knucklehead and the winner, a intricate reproduction of a “39 Indian.

Special thanks to our builders/owners with multiple entries, Bikernet.com , Spitfire Motorcycles, LA Speed Shop, Kiwi Indian Motorcycles, Lifestyle Cycles and Russ Brown. Thanks to all who entered and all who just came by and took the time to vote for their special custom.

JAKARTA’S NEW VEHICLE TAX HIKE–As the city administration prepares to impose a progressive tax on vehicle ownership in a bid to boost revenue, it also hopes to highlight its benefits in solving Jakarta’s traffic problems.

Under the new rule, owners will be taxed 1.5 percent of the vehicle’s value for their first vehicle, 1.75 percent for the second, 2.5 percent for the third and 4 percent for the fourth and above. The tax, which takes effect on Jan. 3, applies to new and existing vehicles.

Previously, the tax was a flat 1.5 percent of the vehicle’s value, regardless of how many other vehicles the owner possessed.

Iwan Setiawandi, head of the city’s tax office, said on Monday there were an estimated 490,000 vehicles in the city that could be classified as second vehicles, along with 111,000 third vehicles and 109,000 fourth vehicles.

With the progressive tax in place, he said, the city administration could earn up to 7 percent more in vehicle tax than before.

“Of the revenue from vehicle tax, around 10 percent will be earmarked for infrastructure development and improving public transportation, as stipulated in a 2009 law on regional revenue,” he said.

Iwan added that of the vehicle tax revenue from the previous fiscal year, which reached Rp 3.06 trillion ($340 million), Rp 300 billion had been allocated for infrastructure and transportation, including road repair projects.

He said the tax office would work with the city’s population and civil registrar to identify car owners.

“We’ll trace the ownership based on address to prevent people from fraudulently claiming to own fewer vehicles,” he said.

Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo previously said the progressive tax was necessary to stem the number of new vehicles hitting the city’s streets each day. The number of new cars and motorcycles in Jakarta increases by an estimated 10 percent a year, according to the administration, with 890 new motorcycles and 420 new cars registered each day.

Fauzi said the higher tax would prompt people to start using public transportation rather than private vehicles.

NEW CAFÉ RACER TV SHOW–This week, we’ve been working feverishly to complete a few segments for the show that are near and dear to our hearts. The foremost is a piece we shot at London’s Lewis Leathers, known as the oldest and most respected leather motorcycle gear manufacturer on the planet. That’s no trite distinction as motorcycle gear has to be stylish, durable and capable of taking the sort of punishment that gives rodeo clowns nightmares just to survive, let alone for most of a century as has Lewis.

The shop is run by Derek Harris, one of the coolest cats we had the pleasure of meeting during our extended world tour. Derek is a quiet, soft-spoken type but has more arcane and fascinating facts stored in his noggin than most. He can drop science on the history and development of motorcycle gear for hours and never grow boring, and his insights on how leather gear worn by early aviators evolved into the same motorcycle jackets we wear today is, well, you’ll have to catch the TV show for his side of the story.

UNCLE MONKEY LOOKING DOWN THE 2011 BARREL–  Christmas is behind us and we are staring at the New Year with both barrels cocked and loaded. It is an opportunity to take stock of the year that was and look forward. Most of us can smile; others breathe a sigh of relief. Life comes at us at full speed like an unfamiliar stretch of road, miles of twisting roads, peaks and valleys, wide-open spaces, sunny days and sometimes weeks of rain. When the dust clears we perceiver, careful when we have to be, carefree when we can.

Being a biker is a blessing. We are honest, hard working and dependable when it counts. We look at the world in its simplest form. We stand for what is right, stand against what is wrong with this country. We respect the old; respect the young men and women who serve in our military, respect the freedom that should be inherent to us all. We have learned to live minimalist knowing what really, truly matters is a good horse, laughing with good friends, lying with someone we love.

A new year means new thoughts, new ideas, new bikes and new adventures. It will take us down familiar roads and paths less taken. We take comfort that we are not alone, that there is a blood bond between the road, our motorcycle, and the brotherhood of riders. There are those that have our back no matter what, that we have their back when the chips are down.

As the dust settles around us we can’t help but smile. We’ve survived, even flourished in the face of adversity. It is behind us now as we gun the throttle towards the distant horizon.

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER NIGHTLY STUDIES, Hangover Helpers– If you are planning on attending a New Year’s celebration, you may want to take a few precautions to lessen your chances of starting the New Year with an alcohol-related hangover. The surefire way to keep a clear head is not to drink at all and to be the designated driver for your friends who do drink. Alcohol is a strong toxin to both the liver and the nervous system, and it irritates the upper digestive tract and urinary system as well. If you do drink, remember:

1. Moderation is the best way to avoid hangovers – make sure to pace yourself.
2. Eat food if you have more than a drink or two.
3. Avoid dehydration (and cut down on alcohol intake) by drinking as much water as possible while you’re drinking alcohol.
4. Take a B-complex vitamin supplement plus extra thiamine (100 mg) to counter the B-vitamin depletion caused by alcohol.
5. Choose beverages that are “cleaner.” Some distilled beverages are rich in types of alcohol called congeners – toxic impurities that can greatly add to your woes. Bourbon, rum and cognac are particularly dirty, while vodka, which is just pure alcohol and water, is the cleanest.

LOUISIANA COUPLE VOTED 2010 “COOLEST CLIENTS” BY THE BIKERNET INSURANCE CREW–Every year the staff at Bikernet Insurance reviews the year’s new client list and and votes on the company’s “coolest clients.”

“Its a tough job says, Bossman Marc B., since we have clients that range from big time celebrities to cool average Joes and Janes.”

AUSTRALIAN BIKERNET CORRESPONDENT AND INDUSTRIAL MAGNET NEW YEAR WISH– Its time to wish you a Happy New Year:

There’s something exciting about leaving an old year and beginning a new one. It’s the chance to start afresh. Somehow we feel different at the beginning of a new year. We have new hope, and new determination … and new goals. Perhaps we plan to do better than we did last year. We plan to improve, achieve, succeed, and win?

New Year’s Eve, where auld acquaintance be forgot! Unless, of course, those tests come back positive. The old year has gone. Let the dead past bury its own dead. The new year has taken possession of the clock of time. All hail the duties and possibilities of the coming twelve months!

The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot.

One item Richard took off the shelf was the black 2 into 1 Fat Cat pipe. The pipe was designed in the dyno room to extract the most performance possible. The power is made off idle and when passing, meaning that power is made early instead at the very end of the RPM range. Depending on the Harley model, enthusiasts can choose from 1 to 3 sound profiles.

BIKERNET FAMILY COUNSELING MOMENT–  Earl and Bubba are quietly sitting
in a boat fishing, chewing tobacco and drinking beer when suddenly Bubba
says, “Think I’m gonna divorce the wife – she ain’t spoke to me in over 2 months.”

Earl spits overboard, takes a long, slow sip of beer and says, “Better think it over….women like that are hard to find.”

Splinters in the Crotch– A woman from Novato, CA who is a tree hugger, a Democrat, and an anti-hunter, purchased a piece of timberland, near Colville , WA .
There was a large tree on one of the highest points in the tract. She wanted a good view of the natural splendor of her land so she started to climb the big tree. As she neared the top she encountered a Spotted Owl that attacked her. In her haste to escape, the woman slid down the tree to the ground and got many splinters in her crotch.

In considerable pain, she hurried to Mt. Carmel ER to see a doctor. She told him she was an environmentalist, a democrat, and an anti-hunter and how she came to get all the splinters. The doctor listened to her story with great patience and then told her to go wait in the examining room and he would see if he could help her.
She sat and waited three hours before the doctor reappeared. The angry woman demanded, “What took you so long?”
He smiled and then told her, “Well, I had to get permits from the Environmental Protection Agency, the Forest Service, and the Bureau of Land Management before I could remove old-growth timber from a recreational area. I’m sorry, but they turned me down.”

KRYLON JOHN ON THE EVE– Here’s a quick report from So Cal. We just had a bunch of rain that soaked the snot out of everything, and did a bunch of damage, but in the process cleaned everything up. Then the wind was blowing like crazy for a couple of days, and did some more damage, but in the process made the skies completely clear.

Now it’s Thursday, December 30, 2010, and the sun is out, making it one of those incredibly beautiful days that California is famous for. It’s kind of funny how things work out, but the recent destruction done by the weather to my collection of old cars, trucks, and motorcycles has helped me to come up with a number one priority on my list of New Year’s resolutions. A friend of mine pointed it out to me one time by asking if I’d ever noticed how as a group us bikers are really good at finding the best example of anything in existence, and then are equally good at destroying it. I’ve owned my share of rare examples, and not intentionally, but nevertheless they usually end up meeting with a terrible fate. This is going to be the year that all of that changes.

I’m either going to get a vehicle safe under cover where it won’t be exposed to the sun and rain, or I’m going to cut it loose. One of the events that helped bring me to this decision was attending the rally put on by the Horseless Carriage Club for the second year in a row. It was last weekend, and the streets of Pasadena were crawling with some really neat examples of where all of this gearhead stuff started. The White steamer Jay Leno is standing next to is the same car he drove last year, and it hadn’t aged a day since the last time I saw it.

I was checking the White out, when some lady asked Jay if she could take a picture of him with it so I slid in with my trusty Canon, and took this shot. I asked Jay last year about how the White’s engine gets lubrication to the crank and pistons, and he told me the thing uses 600-weight steam oil. The intense heat generated by the steam turns the heavy oil into a vapor and the thing turns itself into a big two-stroke motor of sorts. I’m out of time, so that’s it for this year.

I’ll see you folks next week where the Krylon John report will have transformed from a directionless diatribe into a… well, I’m not sure, but I’m hoping to present some progress shots of my living room that I tuned into a motorcycle shop, and a bathroom that serves as glass bead-blaster shed — That’s some of my New Year’s resolutions, and I’m sticking to ‘em.

— Krylon John

MAKE IT A HAPPY NEW YEAR, GODDAMNIT–Our major mantra for 2011 is to relax and ride. The question is: In today’s rapid paced, complicated society, is that possible? You damn right it is. Although, I’m not exactly sure how, but I’m working on it.  I know we took on too much bullshit, in an effort to survive the recession. But the key will be to turn off a myriad of projects, and turn on the fun stuff.

Here’s one other thought. Sometimes I think that I need to drop the philanthropic notions and focus on self, but I can’t do that. We need to think about how we can help others, help motorcyclists’ rights, and help the world with the economy woes. I may not be able to do as much as Donald Trump is capable of doing, but I can try.

AMA WARS 2007

AMA

The day of infamyand the future of theMotorcycle Hall of Fame Museum(12/14/2007)

Motohistory is a place for fun, scholarship, and exploration about the history and traditions of our great sport and hobby of motorcycling. I hate the idea of using it as a political voice, but in this case I feel I must, because I think it is time for people who care about our traditions to know what has been going on inside the walls of the AMA. A little over a year ago, the Board of Directors brought in a new CEO named Rob Dingman. After serving about six months under the tutelage of veteran employee Patti DiPietro, in April of this year Dingman was entrusted with the job of running the organization. Shortly thereafter, DiPietro left, about six months ahead of her plan to see the organization through its next budget cycle. DiPietro is a woman of integrity and a lifelong AMA employee who had executed wise and effective financial management for many years.

Dingman brought in two lieutenants who have little or no knowledge of the history of the organization (how much they even know about motorcycling I am not sure), and he placed them in positions of power over the veteran, experienced staff. By accounts I have heard, at least one of them has nothing good to say about the AMA and constantly tears it down, within and outside the walls of the building. Dingman seems to have been heavily influenced by this philosophy. It is true that the AMA has been severely criticized for the last few years, mostly for the failings – real, perceived, or contrived – of its professional racing program, but instead of trying to fix the problem, Dingman has decided to get rid of it. He published a manifesto in Cycle News – curiously, not in the AMA's own magazine — that basically denounced the organization as fatally flawed and his own staff as incompetent. He announced that the AMA would just get out of the promotion of racing series, whatever that means.

Racer616

He has declared that the AMA's only historical area of competence is government relations, and that in the future it should focus its resources there. Finally, just yesterday he published his “vision” on the AMA's web site, and it seems significantly changed from what appeared in Cycle News. The Board of the AMA needs to determine whether the new CEO is working with a vision or a moving target, but I doubt that the AMA Board has the potency to do that. While it would appear that the Board has bought into his “vision,” I woner if they have just acquiesced. This Board, I think, has become so shell-shocked and beleaguered by a long period of litigation, ineptitude, poor hiring, bad decisions, and infighting that it is no longer capable of effectively governing, and may have simply abdicated leadership solely to this CEO.

However, my greatest concern is for what Dingman has not yet talked about, and that is the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum, which is a separate corporation but heavily dependent upon the AMA. My concern is based on the fact that he appears to have no interest in the traditional functions and the institutional memory of the AMA, and he has demonstrated little regard for those who know the history, have the experience, and have gained it through years of dedicated service. I say this because his campaign to revolutionize the AMA has taken on an abusive and brutal style in regard to the staff. He does not tolerate dialogue and dissent toward his views. I am told he has shut out the experienced staff and huddles only with his two lieutenants, then delivers pronouncements and policy clarifications that often have the quality of threats toward his employees. No one except the chosen two seem to have access to him, and everything is funneled through a gate-keeper.

Long-time members and supporters have complained to me that he will not return their calls, and there are department heads who have gone literally for weeks with Dingman ignoring their requests to discuss pressing issues, yet he has ordered that nothing be written or circulated that has not undergone his personal review and approval. His inaccessibility is so complete that some members of the staff have taken to calling his office “Fort Dingman.” An atmosphere of distrust, fear, and paranoia has blossomed within the building. Employees are convinced that their phones are tapped and their E-mails monitored. He is so afraid of open dialogue that he has ordered the staff to report to him in detail on any contact they have had with a member of the Board of the organization. Employees have learned that he places loyalty to him, personally, above loyalty to the organization, and probably anything else, and he appears to believe that loyaty can be earned through fear.

The toxic environment that Dingman has created inside the AMA became public on December 7, 2007, when he fired two of the longest serving, most loyal, and dedicated employees in the organization. These were Greg Harrison and Bill Wood, who had served for 28 and 25 years respectively. They were escorted from the building like criminals. Earlier in the week, Dingman dismissed the Association's outside legal counsel, who had worked for the organization for 17 years. His cruel and thoughtless behavior toward long-serving employees was, in my opinion, quite unnecessary. Perp walking them out of the building was clearly so mean-spirited, abusive, degrading, and low that the woman from the human resources department assigned as their escort wept as she carried out her task. In a letter to the AMA Board of Directors, I have protested this style of leadership as “monstrous,” and that is what I believe it is. The AMA may need to change, but this is not the way to do it, and I believe that any man capable of this kind of behavior toward his staff does not have the character or gumption to rebuild a decent and better organization.

This action of December 7 I could not abide, and I reacted by protesting the only way I knew how, and that was to resign my committee duties for the Motorcycle Hall of Fame. I did this with full understanding that it would make me unwelcome in Mr. Dingman's domain, which includes one of the best motorcycle research libraries in the nation, which – while belonging to the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum – is on AMA property. Perhaps the quality of future articles at Motohistory will suffer from this, but so be it. At some point one must declare where he stands. At some point, one's outrage must be made clear.

racers408

Below is my letter, copied to the Boards of the two organizations, after which I will clarify my greatest concern, among many, about the future.

December 11, 2007

On December 7, 2007, two of the hardest-working, best, and most loyal employees the American Motorcyclist Association has ever had were fired and escorted out of the building like criminals. One had served 25 years and the other 28. Never mind that the employees in question have been key to driving membership, magazine circulation, and magazine revenue to all-time highs. Never mind that they were utterly loyal to the Association and served it well, even during the period of confusion and instability it has experienced in recent years. Beyond this cruel incident, it is my belief that the current leadership of the Association has established a reign of terror over the professional staff as a whole.

In my opinion, the current regime is monstrous, and I am simply dumbfounded that the AMA Board of Directors seems tolerant of this style of management, if not complicit. It has caused me great pain to watch the deterioration of the AMA, but I expect my unhappiness is nothing compared to that of the employees, volunteers, and supporters who have been directly affected by it. There is very little I can do about this situation except cease to be a party to it in any direct or indirect way.

For this reason, it is with deep sadness that I resign my position as Chairman of the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Ambassadors and Promoters Committee, and my membership on the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Pioneers Committee. Furthermore, with the firm belief that the current AMA leadership will apply any resources provided it toward the destruction of the Association, and eventually the destruction of the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum, I will make no further financial or in-kind contributions until a more caring, conscientious, and responsible leadership is established at the levels of both the administration and the Board of Directors of the AMA.

Sincerely,

Ed Youngblood
Past President, AMA
Member, Motorcycle Hall of Fame

Racer812

The AMA will have to sink or survive, and its Board will have to live with its tacit or complicit support of Mr. Dingman's style of leadership. But what will happen to the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum in his brave new world is what really concerns me. I have seen nothing that would indicate that he has the slightest understanding of it or appreciation for it and what it stands for. In fact, his apparent campaign to obliterate institutional memory at the AMA would suggest that the Museum — or anything else that honors tradition — has no place in his vision.

As I said, the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum is a separate corporation, but it is unfortunately hooked at the hip with the AMA, both politically and financially. Of everything that Mr. Dingman might like to divest the Association of, the Museum would be the easiest. Its by-laws are written such that the AMA Board could obliterate it with a single vote. The Hall of Fame function could be assigned to another organization, or, for that matter, just be abolished. The assets could be liquidated and an auctioneer called in to sell off the collections. Believe me, people, this could be done at any meeting of the AMA Board, at any time, with no requirement of notice to the members of the Hall of Fame or the donors who have given motorcycles, artifacts, and money to the organization over the years.

Since I have been told one should not complain without offering a solution, at this time I shall offer one. I think the Museum Board needs to step beyond its traditional role as a subordinate body and give Mr. Dingman a gift. I would like to see this Board quickly sit down and hammer out a business plan that clarifies how to survive without being dependent on the AMA. This plan should include a political structure that reaches out to tap the broadest possible constituency among the various clubs and organizations in America that love and cherish the traditions and heritage of motorcycling.

I believe the Museum Board is more than capable of this task. There are bright people there who represent a much broader range of industries and experience than you will find on the AMA Board. They should create this plan post haste, take it to the AMA Board, and say, “It is time you set us free, for the good of all concerned.” Independence would eliminate the AMA's need to provide support services to the Museum (IT, accounting, communications), and it would free the Museum from the possibility of collateral damage resulting from the current vicissitudes of the AMA. And Mr. Dingman would be free to focus all of his attention on pursuing his campaign to revolutionize the AMA. Surely, he would appreciate that.

Let me end by returning to history, which is, after all, the purpose of this web site. I think about how the head of the AMA treated his senior staff like criminals on December 7th, and I recall what a truly great American leader said about that date many years ago, describing it as “a day which will live in infamy.” Thanks, Mr. Dingman, for reminding us. I hope others will take your actions as a wake-up call and consider that perhaps now is the time for the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum to move on and make something positive out of all this mess by taking on the responsibility of independence so that one of our most important institution will not be taken down with the AMA. In the mean time, lets hope that somehow the AMA Board of Directors will find the courage and right-mindedness to do its job and demand that decency be an obligatory part of Mr. Dingman's vision.

In David’s words, “It has been 2 years since the introduction of Evelyn, the last piece in my”Women of Harley Series”. The Evelyn painting was a portrait of a seasonedrider on her way to a hill climb in the early thirties. She was composed ofbig bold strokes with expressive paint and colors. I got to thinking of how womenfirst climbed astride the iron horse in the first place and did alittle research. It appears that the decade before was the culprit forparadigm shift of attitudes: “The Roaring Twenties” . Now I wanted todo an accurate rendering with all the details of this slice ofAmerican history.

I decided to produce a piece that went full circle back to the”Ruby” era, except focus on the motorcycle as the catalyst of change.Stella sits outside the Oxford Hotel on a shiny new Harley Davidson infull ’20s regalia, igniting the onslaught of the previous Victoriangeneration’s display of contempt. These young women of the ’20s couldnot have been more shocking to their parents — they flew airplanes, rode motorcycles and stayed out dancing until the morning hours, not tomention the attire. Bikers say bye-bye to Cobleskill —Am-Jam, the three-day biker festival held at the Cobleskill Fairgrounds every May for 25 years, isn?t returning this spring.American Motorcycle Jamboree organizer Jean Aldus said last week that she?s fed up with State Police, the Chamber of Commerce and what she termed an uncooperative attitude in Cobleskill.

But the targets of Ms. Aldus? wrath denied any wrong-doing, saying instead that they tried to help Am-Jam.

Am-Jam regularly brought 5,000 bikers, who spent thousands in Cobleskill and surrounding areas. Numbers dwindled in recent years, however, and Ms. Aldus blamed the mounting problems.Ms. Aldus said she made her decision last year after a meeting with Schoharie County Chamber of Commerce representatives ?was the last straw.??They don?t have a clue,? Ms. Aldus said, adding that the Chamber reps offered little or no promotion and assistance.

However, she singled out the State Police for her sharpest criticism. Ms. Aldus complained about State Police roadblocks that checked bikers as they exited I-88 and entered the Fairgrounds. That was a criticism repeated from past years, and Ms. Aldus said it was the same in 2009.

Instead of being able to travel around the area while at Am-Jam, bikers were ?sequestered at the Fairgrounds? because of the State Police presence, Ms. Aldus said.?I?m glad we don?t have to deal with them anymore,? she added.Ms. Aldus also blasted local businesses, claiming they grew indifferent to bikers and the money they were prepared to spend.?If we?re such an inconvenience to Cobleskill, fine,? Ms. Aldus said. ?Let?s see the town dry up and blow away.

?The whole Town of Cobleskill is a backward, non-progressive area. Our vendors didn?t want to deal with the unfriendliness.?Those enduring Ms. Aldus? criticism see the situation differently.Troop G?s Major William Sprague of the State Police pointed out that Am-Jam attracts Hell?s Angels and other gangs. If the Angels are there, the State Police will be there, too, he said.

?The Hell?s Angels are an internationally known and recognized criminal enterprise,? Major Sprague said. ?We take enforcement action whenever we can against such an organization.?And troopers are hardly to blame for Am-Jam leaving Cobleskill, he added.?Do not believe the State Police carrying out their regular law-enforcement responsibilities is the cause for Am-Jam leaving the Cobleskill Fairgrounds,? Major Sprague said.

As for the Chamber, Executive Director Jodie Rutt said the organization offered assistance and suggestions.

?The Chamber of Commerce loves to support an event like that because we know they spend money, and that money?s important to local businesses,? Ms. Rutt said. But Am-Jam didn?t take up the Chamber?s offers.?We tried to help out with our promotional expertise, but there were obstacles out of our control that we couldn?t overcome,? Ms. Rutt said, without elaborating.Jacqui Hauser, executive director of Cobleskill Partnership Inc., the downtown improvement group, denied that local businesses were uncooperative.

For two years, CPI and businesses posted ?Welcome, Am-Jam? signs in windows and printed flyers describing discounts and offers specifically for Am-Jam visitors.?I think we tried,? Ms. Hauser said. ?We welcomed them here. I don?t know what more we could have done.?

If Am-Jam won?t be in Cobleskill this year, it won?t be anywhere, either.Ms. Aldus said the event will re-surface in the Syracuse area in 2011.?It will take a year to set everything up and change venues,? she said.

FLAMED MIRRORS FROM AEROMACH–The Aeromach Flame Mirror is built using CNC machines to carve lightweight and strong custom mirrors from billet aluminum. The mirror housing is chromed to a show-quality finish. The mirror itself is glass, not a plastic. Aeromach only uses glass because it glass has the best optical properties.

The Optical Secret ? The reason an Aeromach mirror is desirable and isn?t cheap is because of the billet. The density of the aluminum is much higher than the cast stock mirrors from Harley or other accessory suppliers. This metal density combined with glass optics instead of plastic increases the clarity of the mirror by as much as 40% over stock.

The Aeromach mirrors and stems are manufactured in NASCAR country right outside of Charlotte, NC using aircraft quality solid billet extruded T6 aluminum. When the CNC machine isn?t carving up 200 MPH go fast parts, its delivering consistent design and quality motorcycle mirrors, stems and grips..

Aeromach’s mirror are available at the Aeromach Website.

IT’S A WRAP, I SUPPOSE–I’m rolling out to some Los Angeles Canyon tomorrow morning, before sunrise. Sunset Films is shooting the last segment of a Mike Jones film called Born to Ride. Mike has devoted his life to this creative effort for half a decade. He’s rolling the dice once more that this will wrap up production, and I’m apart of the effort.

Senator Dave Zien will be on hand to make sure we follow the code of the west. Dave is the hardest rider I know. He probably rode out from Wisconsin through snow storms, rain squals and flooding to scramble to this shoot. He doesn’t stop for anything.

So what’s coming for Bikernet. I’m waiting for our Texas martial arts master to launched a new Australian feature and a gypsy road story from Scotty. Here’s another mad non-stop rider. Scotty has lived on the road for almost a decade. He has no home except his FLH.

K&Nsuper

I’m working on several techs involving Bubs Exhaust, Bassani, S&S and K&N. Plus I need to roll out to Urban’s place to interview him about the Cannonball run. I’m still prepping for a tech with Paughco on Sportster products, for turning wrecked Sportsters into cool choppers. I’m also working with Baker on a tech on their new 4-speed transmissions.

Chance book cover
The books is being printed as we speak. Yipee.

I’m also drinking heavily and writing the next Bandit’s Cantina Soap. Plus Bikernet has signed two deals to support bike shows around the country. We are sponsoring Ryan’s Donnie Smith, Arlen Ness and Rick Fairless shows, and the LA Calendar show. Hang on for reports.

Okay, the sun is out. It’s time for a ride, goddamnit.

DESIGNER ALAN LEE REPORTS TO BIKERNET–This is Alan Lee. Thank you for your precious time in reading this quick note. This email is in response to all of those who are asking about my whereabouts.

Many in the motorcycle industry have noticed that I’ve been off the radar for a little while. Many in the automotive industry noticed that I have showing face a little more, once again. This is because I’ve been up to a bold, new project. I’ve been working on a Supercar; One, single, high-performance marriage of performance, technology and artistry. Please observe the graphic below, or follow the link below, if you are curious about any details that are underway.

alan lee engine

Project started in July 2009, duration 2 years:

We are actually at +- 8% done

All the measurement are based on a Ferrari Enzo , 4 meters long ,126 centimeter high, And 2 meters wide

All the pre project was done on blue print and computer before starting, I researched on internet for several month , buyed books and ad several meeting with engineers, designers, artists all around the world, taking advices and informations.

alan le concept

If you want to look serious, you need to use serious tools, I don?t wanted to look-like a regular mechanic man who build his car on his garage. The first step after all the research, was to buy two Ferrari V8 motors and three transmissions (2 Ferrari and 1 Audi), which I took in parts and started slowly to rebuild, my way.

The actual motor on the car is a 360 Modena Challenge with a 6 speed transmission F1 (paddle shifter). I will add two superchargers with intercooler from Procharger at +- 7 kilos of boost (a lot!!).

My hand made intake manifold, my hand made computers (5 computers), I expect 750 to 900 Horses power at 11.000 RPM, that?s mean. The level or over most of the actual supercars , Lamborghini, Ferrari, Bugatti, Mc Laren , and others.

The center part (where the seat are) is a unibody(center cell for protect passengers), like on a Enzo; Ferrari use a maximum of carbon kevlar, I use a maximum of aluminum (more ?noble? material, and more difficult to use), the rear frame will bolt on the unibody and will support all the rear , motor and transmission, wheels, double tanks, ect

alan lee engine close

The car will run with 22 inches wheels front and rear, the difficulty is to negociate with tires company to make me special 22 inches tires who handle over 340 km/h

We will use also like in my last glass bike a Hydrogen generator witch help to run cleaner and also use less gas

The best way to describe the project is ONE MAN,ONE CAR, nobody as I know tried to accomplish a so hard task in to years, by himself and with his own money.

alan lee frame

All the car is made of aluminum, frame, unibody and complete body. No paint just the polished alu for the body and brushed alu for the frame/unibody, I don?t want to hide anything under the paint , so it needs to be perfect!!

Interior will be in red leather with carbon Kevlar accent.

The goal when the car is finish, is to display it at all the main antoshow, Los Angeles, Detroit, Franckfort, Tokyo, Milan, Beijing and other for my personnal promotion.

I have a price for the car but will not tell you now, you can compare with the other brand !!

Let say that I believe it?s around 30 peoples in the world capable to pay what I will ask for the finish car.

Make your own research and you will see that it?s not a lot of people in the entire planet able to accomplish what I do ????maybe nobody else.

ERshow

EASYRIDERS SHOW SERIES HITS CHARLOTTE– The Easyrider Bike Show Tour came to Charlotte this past weekend. It was a wet and rainy weekend but warm. The show always serves as break from winter every year and this year for me it was well appreciated. Standing in the unemployment line has a way of making winter even longer!

The bikes entered in the show were all top shelf and the Hot Rods and Rat Rods were cool as well! I entered my 4 speed jockey shift Evo just for fun and to break the boredom. I did not win anything but I really did not care, it was a win for me just to get away from things for awhile. There were some great Panheads at the show along with every other model also.

ERshow2

The crowd was heavy Saturday and dropped off some on Sunday. The show is always a good place to see old friends and make new ones. All in all it was good time. Hopefully the Easyrider Bike Show Tour will make a stop in Charlotte next year!

Later!

Kerker Slip-Ons have a proven seven to thirteen horsepower gain and promise great mid-high range power. Kerker Slip-Ons are 8dB louder than stock with a profound, deep, throaty rumble. Kerker Slip-Ons keep matinenance at a low with a rebuildable core and packing. A Mikuni Core is also available for peak performance and ultimate flow.

GENO

HOT ROD & CUSTOM CAR SHOW 2010–At the 16th Padova Bike Expo Show (www.bike-exposhow.com), that took place from January 15th to January 17th, the main characters of the show were as usual the most prestigious custom bikes coming from all Europe, but this comprehensive exhibition presented even an exciting special show for all US car enthusiasts.

In fact the exhibition centre of Padova was literally invaded not only by more than 60,000 visitors, but even by the roar of powerful American V8 engines. In an exhibition area of over 6,000 square metres (Pavilion 5) took shape a colorful show. Cruisin’ Life Magazine (www.cruisinlife.it) organized on an area of 3,000 square metres the Hot Rod & Custom Car Show, an exhibition of the most outstanding and sparkling Hot Rods and Custom Cars currently on Italian ground; together with the classic and “mild custom” cars of the Route 66 American Cars Club was created an exciting vintage-retro atmosphere that met the noticeable approval of many visitors during the whole weekend.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the show offered a great opportunite to enjoy a vintage and rockabilly atmosphere, thanks event to the presence of many interesting stands (accessories, hairstyle, clothing, design, etc.). Great bands, such as The Crunchy Candies, Jhonnyboy & The Ice Cream and The Mad Tubes, entertained all presents with their music. Than there were the charming “Vintage Fashion Parade” (courtesy of Sam Missous Vintage and Futuretr?), the American car meeting organized by the Route 66 ACC, the unleashed DJ set and then two “tattoo contests”.

According to the considerable turnout of visitors, we can say that even for this 2010 edition, the Hot Rod & Custom Car Show has hit the mark, giving all presents a vivid and exhiting experience of US Car Culture. We give you an appointment to 2011 (January, 14th-16th), again in Padua… because real passion lives here!

Nebraska no-helmet proposal to get another ride– LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – A bill that would let motorcyclists go helmet-free in Nebraska will get another ride.

On Wednesday, the Legislature’s Transportation and Telecommunications Committee advanced a measure (LB200) that would allow bikers 21 years old and older to ride without helmets.

The committee vote means the bill introduced by Sen. Charlie Janssen of Fremont will likely be debated by the full Legislature. Last year, the bill got stuck in committee.

Similar measures have failed in the past, including in 2008.

The majority of states let people ride motorcycles without helmets, but safety concerns have persuaded Nebraska lawmakers to require helmets.

HARLEY PROJECTING 201,000 to 212,000 BIKER SHIPMENTS IN 2010–Harley-Davidson’s fourth quarter and full year financial results reveal that the company has seen full year income from “continuing operations” drop to $4.29 billion in 2009 against $5.58 billion in 2008.

Including its MV Agusta discontinued operations, Harley is reporting a $55.1 million full-year loss, with the restructuring-impacted fourth quarter loss of $218.7 million taking the annual performance into negative territory for the first time in more than two decades.

Compared to its 5.58 billion revenue in 2008, the company is down 23.1 percent in revenue terms for the year, with fourth quarter revenue down a whopping 40.2 percent to 764.5 million from 1.28 billion for the final quarter of 2008.

Harley President/CEO Keith Wandell remains “confident we have made the right decisions for our future” saying that “these actions are critical to restoring greater profitability and long-term growth to Harley-Davidson.”

Wandell cites some $224 million of restructuring charges impacting the 2009 results, but the company is now saying that, in total, its restructuring is estimated to cost between $430 and $460 million going into 2010, which includes some $175 to $195 million that will work through its books this year.

Harley says that it is ultimately anticipating annual ongoing savings arising from restructuring of between $240 and $260 million a year, with some $135 to $155 million savings anticipated in 2010.In the fourth quarter of 2009, revenue from Harley-Davidson motorcycles was down 45.6 percent over the final quarter of 2008 at $552 million on a huge 53.1 percent drop in motorcycle shipments to its worldwide dealer network, at 35,938, which is at the lower end of prior guidance. Parts and Accessories though were only down 4.9 percent for the quarter, with General Merchandise only off 3.2 percent.

For the full year, motorcycle revenue was down to $3.17 billion from $4.12 billion in 2008, with motorcycle shipments down to 223,023 for the year, against 303,479 for 2008.

For this year Harley is now saying it anticipates shipments to be in the range 201,000 to 212,000, which would be a reduction of between five and ten percent, giving some credence to off-the-record reports from within the company that the general feeling is that having planned the hits it is taking to deal with the impacts of the downturn, this year should see demand for the firm’s motorcycle broadly stabilize by the end of the year.

In market share terms, the company continues to perform better relative to market decline internationally than at home. Harley says that its full-year decrease in motorcycle sales (in its 651+cc heavyweight sector) represents a 22.7 percent decline worldwide, with 25.8 percent decline domestically, and 15.4 percent in international markets.

There does appear to be some continuing evidence that Harley is outperforming the market, with on-highway motorcycle sales for the domestic US market as a whole (all displacements) down over 40 percent for the year, and evidence to support the “stabilization” theory.Compared to the full-year performance, final quarter retail sales of Harley-Davidson motorcycles declined “just” 27.9 percent (domestic 651+cc), despite its reported greater than 50 percent year-on-year reduction in shipments to dealers (suggesting that some supply/demand equilibrium is on the horizon) with final quarter international retail sales down 10.3 percent only in international markets.

DARWIN AWARDS CONTINUES–5.. A teenager was in the hospital recovering from serious head wounds received from an oncoming train. When asked how he received the injuries, the lad told police that he was simply trying to see how close he could get his head to a moving train before he was hit.

6. A man walked into a Louisiana Circle-K, put a $20 bill on the counter, and asked for change. When the clerk opened the cash drawer, the man pulled a gun and asked for all the cash in the register, which the clerk promptly provided. The man took the cash from the clerk and fled, leaving the $20 bill on the counter. The total amount of cash he got from the drawer… $15.

[If someone points a gun at you and gives you money, is a crime committed?]

7. Seems an Arkansas guy wanted some beer pretty badly. He decided that he’d just throw a cinder block through a liquor store window, grab some booze, and run. So he lifted the cinder block and heaved it over his head at the window. The cinder block bounced back and hit the would-be thief on the head, knocking him unconscious. The liquor store window was made of Plexiglas. The whole event was caught on videotape.

Don’t miss the final Darwin Awards in the Sunday Post.

BUDGET BUILDS WITH STYLE AND PERFORMANCE — Once again Illusion has made it possible to get into a serious chopper that is as smokin? hot in appearance as it is a great daily or weekend ride. Simply by doing a little tweaking here and making careful choices there, they are able to offer class act scooters that won?t break the bank.

This particular build uses an Ultima motor, transmission, primary drive, and slightly modified Ultima frame. Illusion fit a DNA front end and wheels, modified HD tank, a custom seat from Danny Grey, a ?two eight? fender, Illusion MAC 10 exhaust, and mild but tasteful paint by Rock n? Roll.

The sanitary switching system is by Grip Ace and for safety purposes they stepped up to PM calipers front and rear. Looking at the bike you?d never know it wasn?t a high dollar piece, but the truth is Illusion has been building these one off, affordable scooters for nearly 30 years and they have proven more reliable than many of the freaked out high dollar customs.

THE ALLAH CODE OF THE WEST– An 18-year old suicide bomber blew himself up and appeared before Allah.

He said, “Oh, Allah, I did your bidding, I have a request. Since I’m only 18 and spent all my time in terrorist training school, I never was with a woman. So, instead of 72 virgins, who also won’t know what to do sexually, can I have 72 whores?”

Allah regarded him for a moment then replied, “Actually, the 72 virgins are here in heaven because assholes like you murdered them before they could experience the pleasure of sex.So, you’re here to service them. Since they’re virgins, they’re quite sexually ravenous; and, frankly, you’ll be on constant exhausting duty.”

“The bomber responded, “Well, I guess I can handle with that. How hard can itbe to keep 72 women satisfied for all eternity?”

And Allah replied, “Who said they were women??

Advanced Motorcycle Training School to Debut at Chicago International Motorcycle Show–

Midwest Police Motorcycle Training of Illinois, which focuses on enhancing the knowledge in advance traffic safety and motor-vehicle operations for both police and civilian motorcycle safety, will debut at the Chicago International Motorcycle Show, running from February 19 to 21. The school will be raffling free motorcycle training at this event.

Midwest Police Motorcycle Training of Illinois offers numerous motorcycling courses varying from the basic level of motorcycling to the most advanced motorcycle training in the country. The school is one of the few motorcycle training programs in the nation that utilize accident reconstruction to help establish field exercises for the courses.

It has been a point of riding educators and schools for some time that, once riders pass the basic motorcycle operators courses, they are put out on the streets without proper follow-up to maintain and build proper skills through motorist training, furthering coordination and physical skills. “Riding advanced cone patterns under slow riding conditions is absolutely critical for enhancing a rider’s skills, it enhances a rider’s confidence as well as muscle memory in emergency situations.”, says O’Connell, Illinois’s Head Instructor. “However as an example, far too often the same rider is not prepared to evade and or perform emergency controlled braking and or evasive operations at typical road speeds followed immediately by escape maneuvers.”

To accomplish this, Midwest Police Motorcycle Training is offering multiple unique courses based on real-life situational training in a controlled environment for the civilian rider. These courses have evolved over time through accident reconstruction analysis. In the end, these courses are focused on motorcycle safety. Historically, this type of training has only been available to police motorcycle officers.

During this Debut at the Chicago International Motorcycle Show, Midwest Police Motorcycle Training of Illinois will be raffling a free Primary Course, as well as having other giveaways during the show on February 19-21, 2010. Moreover, any student that has already signed up for the 2010 Illinois season and wins the raffle will have a credit applied. All motorcyclists interested in advancing their riding skills as well as safe road riding should stop by the Midwest Police Motorcycle Training booth at the show, visit the website at , http://www.midwestofillinois.com or call 630-589-6141.

U.S. CHOPPERS, THE GOD OF THE BOARDTRACK FRAME STILL SWINGING–We shot this recent Board Track basket build, built by Rick Krost. A magazine recently turned it down, but it will be featured on Bikernet in the next couple of weeks. I dropped him a note recently. He’s currently developing a front end to go with his Board Track frames:

Wow, I have been buried- I keep meaning to call you. I got the package- haven’t had time to open it yet- but I assume it’s the voltage regulator. I am wrapping up the bike with the new front end right now… I’ll bring it over in the truck and we’ll get lunch, pay you for the parts, and talk about everything- and relax!

Hope all is well- very chaotic over here. Don’t sweat the magazine deal – thanks very much for trying- I appreciate it. I approve of a Bikernet feature anytime.

Watch yourself TIG welding- I just got real sick for the first time – it wasn’t good… made me re-think some things…

American Motorcycle Specialties Vows to Save Your Butt on Long Hauls–This week we caught up with Joe McNeill of American MotorcycleSpecialties. You may have spotted him at consumer shows across ourland as he works his butt off in his sales booth. Joe sells theComfort Max Ortho-Deluxe Gel Seat Pad, a device he designed to offerlong-haul riders unparalleled comfort on any bike.

AMSSTUFF

At the core of the Comfort Max Ortho-Deluxe Gel Pad is an advancedViscoelastic molded gel that’s used in medical and sportsapplications. Its unique properties include the elimination ofpressure points or “Hot Spots” which can cause rider discomfort. Inaddition to absorbing vibration, small bumps and road irregularities,it helps relieve backache, fatigue, discomfort, soreness and numbness.

AMSSTUFF10c
Comfort Max Gel Pads feature a unique, maximum grip bottom. This rubberized surface prevents the pad from sliding off the seat anddoes not require the use of permanent straps. You just put the pad onthe seat and ride away. When you make a stop, just take the pad withyou or toss it in your saddlebag.

?It?s better to get a pad that?s a bit bigger than the pillion pad,?says Joe, ?because a rectangular pad won?t be offering the bestcomfort. For instance our heart-shaped Medium pad is contoured toideally fit a female motorcycle passenger and provides the bestcomfort for that back seat, in spite of being a little wider at theback.?

AMSSTUFF108

Pads come in many sizes to fit various applications. Ortho-Deluxe gelpads come with your choice of a Neoprene or Sheepskin cover. Thesheepskin cover provides increased comfort and allows air tocirculate, virtually eliminating perspiration. Unclemonkey

THE SNOW BELT UNCLE MONKEY DOCTRINE–What to do, what to do? Winter can be a difficult time for us bikers in the Snow Belt. Between rebuilding our bikes and trying to stay warm there is a lot of down time as we wait for parts to come in from suppliers, chroming, painting. Some pass the time idly visiting BikerNet or reading the Busted Knuckle Chronicles and the like. Others it is a time to get reacquainted with our love ones that will soon disappear into rear view mirrors once it is time to ride again.

For those like me winter is a time to pick up pen and paper to share the words and thoughts that have seeped into our consciousness as we raced down the open road on steel steeds; sheltered in the isolation and intimacy that only riding can provide. Words spring forth of love and lust, deceit and hatred, friendship and camaraderie. Stories of trips, poems of loss, thoughts of laughter. Insight and foresight rolled into a mosaic of self-expression and communication.

Brightly colored paints and inks spill out the images that words fail to capture. Pictures of the jagged peaks and thundering iron horses, living skies painted by the fleeting sunlight. Pictures of our family and friends. Portraits of fallen brothers. Artwork that society would call “lowbrow”, tacky and tasteless, spread across canvasses on our walls and stitched into our skin, becoming part of our flesh and bone, part of our souls.

Those that like working with their hands will be found out in sheds and Quonsets cutting and bending, twisting and forming small pieces of scrap metal. Old spark plugs and wire worked until they resemble familiar shapes. One after one little motorcycles line up on the workbench like in front of our favourite stop. Lathed and milled miniature parts making detail replicas of their bikes or bikes they wished they owned.

For some miniatures won’t do. Small riding bikes take shape. We see them at the rallies and in the pits scooting our lazy asses across the parking lots in search of trim, parts and more beer. Others turn their talents to build full size statues in honour of the machines that define us, make us who we are. Some are simple and primitive, others elaborate and decorative. They can be found in front of dealerships, resting peacefully in the rafters of favourite drinking holes, adoring the steps of clubhouses.

There is something in the simple form of the motorcycle that draws to us, speaks to us. Perhaps it is in the simple lines, the nakedness, the rawness of a motorcycle that makes us want to emulate it in art. So throw another log on the fire, pour another shot of whisky. It maybe cold outside but the creative fires burn within.

New GPS for Motorcycle Safety and Recovery from IturanUSA–

IturanUSA just announced the release of their latest product, Rideit, a waterproof and shockproof global positioning system (GPS) device designed specifically for motorcycles that is guaranteed to withstand the toughest road and weather conditions.

?Our latest product, Rideit, is the only GPS of its kind that provides users with both a tracking and alarm system security solution for motorcycles,? said Nehemya Zamosh, CEO of IturanUSA. ?While there are hundreds of GPS devices designed for cars and even pedestrians, for the motorcycle industry, there is a huge lack of reliable and durable GPS systems. We developed Rideit as the solution to provide the security and peace of mind motorcyclists want while on and off the road.?

Rideit combines an alarm system and tracking device in one. The product designers paid special attention to details like power consumption and sensor placement, and packaged the device with a remote control. Other notable features include an internal accelerometer sensor which detects change in bike angles and can analyze on-road accidents, five second motion alert feature, and siren and blinkers output. Customers will also enjoy personalized perks such as alert notifications by e-mail or SMS and a back up battery.

Rideit also offers the ability to arm and disarm their motorcycle via cell phone, as well as set Geozones to know when the motorcycle goes in or out of a specified geographic region. To learn more about Rideit and its features, visit www.ituranusa.com.

AUCTION TO SUPPORT HAITIAN FOLKS–Considered one of the most inspiring people on television for her role as trainer and life coach on the NBC hit series The Biggest Loser and star of the upcoming NBC show, Losing It With Jillian, leading health and wellness expert, Jillian Michaels , is taking action to motivate people to donate money towards Haiti.

Starting today, Jillian will be auctioning her Yamaha FZ1 motorcycle from Season 4 of The Biggest Loser on eBay at http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotorsbidding will be held over the course of five days, with all proceeds going towards the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund.

“The current destruction in Haiti is devastating,” says Michaels. “ Haiti holds a special place in my heart and I knew that I had to do something to help. I hope that the money raised from the auction of my bike will provide some relief to those suffering.”

Please visit the auction site to read a letter from Jillian and view images of the bike and candid pictures of Jillian from when she was traveling through Haiti .

Letter from Jillian: When I was 28 years old and at a major cross roads in my life something in my heart called me to Haiti . I was soul searching, lost, confused, looking for direction. I was in Haiti for roughly 3 weeks. I traveled the entire country from Cap-Haitien through Port-Au-Prince down to Jacmel. I went there not knowing what to expect and even slightly scared for my well being. What I found was shocking. The people were the most kind, loving, open and generous souls I had ever met. Even with nothing, living in shanties, they would literally give you the shirts off their backs. They brought me into their homes. Fed me soup. Shared their stories and their culture. Showed me the true potential of the human spirit. They showed me how to cultivate the fabric of resilience, and gave me an overall perspective on life that changed me forever.

You may remember on my return to Biggest Loser for Season 4, I rode up on the most insane motorcycle. This motorcycle was a fully customized Yamaha FZ1. Hand painted for me by Troy Lee. It was customized to the point of being nearly unrecognizable. It has titanium pipes, belly pan fairings, modified mirrors, iPod and iPhone capabilities, and a special alarm. You name it, the bike has it. This bike is special to me. It holds tremendous sentimental value symbolizing my return home to Biggest Loser. I find it only fitting that it’s sale helps benefit the people who took me into their homes.

I am auctioning it off to a new loving home and all the proceeds will be donated to www.clintonbushhaitifund.org to benefit the Haitian people.

Happy bidding and lots of love,
–Jillian Michaels

CGSociety’s 25th CGChallenge – B-Movie: Attack of the 50 foot CGChallenge–The CGSociety down in South Australia is searching the world for entries to its latest Digital Art competition: “CGChallenge XXV: B-Movie, Attack of the 50 foot CGChallenge”. Since the dawn of movies there was always a creepier, scarier, and unintentionally funnier cousin to the big budget blockbusters: the B-grade movie. Cinema screens around the world flickered with startling images of wolfmen, zombies, nuclear-mutated monsters, and, bug-eyed aliens who had a penchant for probing. The 25th CGChallenge “Attack of the 50ft CG Challenge”.

The CGSociety want A-grade art which celebrates the B-Movie genre. This could be a monster about to attack, an animated scene/trailer for your own imaginary B-Movie, a creepy set piece oozing with fog and the threat of the unknown, or a movie poster with a suitably corny title splashed across it. Let your imagination run riot! However, ensure that it embodies the cheesiness and sense of fun that is the essence of the B-Movie. Many prizes from companies like Autodesk, Luxology, Pixologic and our exciting new partner Dell, await those brave enough to wade into the murky swamp of B-Movie glory.

So…, if you are one of the creative types, visit their website at www.cgsociety.org and get on it, otherwise enjoy the poster they came up with to promote the competition – which is pretty cool with the babe and the bike and all.

Motogadget Goes Classic With New Tiny Tachometers–Motogadget from Berlin, Germany, have just launched two new design editions based upon their Motoscope Tiny, an analog tachometer with only 49mm (1.9in) diameter: The Speedster and Vintage. Both new tachs are inspired by the streamline design of 1950s.

The stylish and elegant Speedster features an old-white face with the hand made from brushed steel. The ring holding the glass is available in matte black or polished. The vintage ups the old-school look a notch, featuring an aged face with a cracked look. The hand and top ring of the Vintage are made from brass and aged in a handmade process.

Motus_pic1

Motus Motorcycles Completes World’s First Direct Injected V4 Engine —Motus Motorcycles has been working secretly with Katech Engines to develop the world’s first direct-injected V4 engine. Named the KMV4, the engine is developed to be an advanced, high performance powertrain designed for Motus MST motorcycles. Now undergoing extensive durability testing, the KMV4 is also claimed to be the first American V4 ever built for a production vehicle.

Alabama-based Motus intends to compete with foreign manufacturers currently dominating the popular sport touring segment. Sport tourers blend the two largest motorcycle segments, sport bikes and tourers, by combining comfort and performance. To be competitive in the performance oriented world of sport touring, Motus is determined that a proprietary engine is needed.

Motus_pic2

“To create the ultimate sport tourer, we had to either work around the shortcomings of available engines or develop a purpose built engine for our application,” said Brian Case, Vice President and Design Director at Motus.

Domestically made street bikes are all currently powered by v-twin engines, which did not meet performance or efficiency targets for the MST concept. “The domestic motorcycle market is dominated by air-cooled v-twins, but to be successful in the long term, the MST has to present clear improvements over existing technology and not be another ‘me too’ product,” said Case.

Motus_pic3

After a global search and lengthy discovery process, Michigan-based Katech Engines emerged as the clear choice to help Motus design and build the KMV4.

“When researching quality engine builders, Katech was identified as a powerhouse of engine durability, engineering, and manufacturing,” said Lee Conn, President of Motus. “Katech has over fifty endurance racing championships, experience developing new engines for OEM’s, and access to the most advanced engineering and prototyping technologies. We couldn’t be happier with our decision to retain Katech for the KMV4.”

“Katech is thrilled to finally announce our involvement with Motus,” said Fritz Kayl, co-founder of Katech. “The KMV4 is an exciting project that fits well within our capabilities and experience. We incorporated technology from our race programs to increase durability, performance, and efficiency. We are ahead of schedule and are refining the KMV4 into the most reliable motorcycle engine made,” said Fritz Kayl.

“We didn’t focus on maximum horsepower; we focused on heightening the rider experience. To us, that means tons of torque over a wide RPM range, low vibes, high efficiency and bulletproof durability. Enter the KMV4, a liquid cooled V4 with DI,” said Case.

Markham’s famous custom cars The Devil’s Ride (1934 Ford 3-window Coupe), the Ice Car (2000 Toyota Celica) and the Pumping Iron (1932 Ford) will also be on display for students to check out during the event.

Students who come out to the World of Wheels event will have the chance to win one of 14 scholarships that will be given out by OTC, who has partnered with Championship Auto Shows to encourage high school students to consider jobs in the automotive industry. Additional activities throughout the weekend include Airbrush tattoos, Matco tool giveaways and Weekend Airbrush Class giveaways.

Pin-Up Girl Raises Money for Veterans Healthcare —Pin-Up-In-Chief Gina Elise, creator of the award-winning “Pin-Ups For Vets” Calendar fundraiser project, presented a $15,000.00 check to the Portland, OR VA Hospital to improve rehabilitation programs for Veterans. This was Elise’s third donation to a VA or military hospital since she began her pin-up project in 2007.

A few years ago Elise started seeing news about under-funded Veterans healthcare programs and wanted to do something to help. She decided to produce a WWII-style pin-up calendar to bring in funds to support these Veterans Hospital rehab programs.

Along with raising money for hospitals, Elise has also made thousands of bedside visits to Veterans across the U.S. to personally deliver her “Pin-Ups For Vets” calendars and “Kiss A Vet” T-shirts. These gifts, complete with personal messages, are donated by supporters who purchase the gifts on Elise’s popular website, www.PinUpsForVets.com.

In addition to her visits to VA and military hospitals, Elise sends hundreds of “Pin-Ups For Vets” items to deployed troops around the world to boost morale. The troops have responded to Elise’s support by flying seven American flags in her honor over military bases.

“The troops have sent me hundreds of thank-you notes for the great morale boost that the calendars have brought them. It is important to let them know that they are not forgotten,” says Elise. The photos have been torn out of the calendars to decorate tents, and some of the photos have been carried with troops during missions to inspire and motivate.

Military units have put in requests for the pin-up calendars, and Elise needs to find donors to meet those requests. Elise says, “These donated gifts boost morale and improve Veterans’ healthcare. What better way to honor those who have served our country!”

ending

LIFE IS STRANGE–But we all knew that. If it made any sense, it might be easy. We don’t know if all the storms have passed or not. The wind is whistling and the dogs are hunkered down in the shop.

I’m going to try like hell to launch our Bonneville 2010 Department tomorrow. We’ll see if the new webmaster and the stars are aligned. We discovered we can’t build a streamliner with the 45 flathead. With all the new rules a rider can’t ride an enclosed motorcycle, unless it has a complete sit down tubular frame, parachutes, and a fire system. Doesn’t matter if the planned speed is only 75 mph. So, we’ve shifted back to the air tech fairing for a partially streamlined 1940 flathead entry. Hang on for the reports.

Chapter57cantinacharacter
A George Fleming illustration of a character from the next Cantina Soap. Hang on.

Next week you’ll see the tech on Ray Wheeler’s Dyna hot rod. He’s hot to trot for the salt, with performance upgrades, and new pipes. Doc Robinson shipped a Headwinds shop tour report all the way from Australia. He toured the headlight making facility the last time he was in the states. He may be coming back soon and we will tour the BDL facility.

Oldsinwucake
Cake for Sin Wu.

More sex ridden content is headed into the Cantina, and I can’t wait to write the story about Ross’ bike. It’s about time. Nyla’s bobber, built by Kent Weeks is destined to be featured in American Iron, and I have a couple of stories to write for the Cycle Source, on a Cannonball entry bike. It’s Sin Wu’s Birthday tomorrow. I better stop everything and shop for something special, super special. She’d probably be happy with a sunny day.

Ride Forever,

INTERMOT to take place in Cologne until 2016–The German Motorcycle Industry Association (IVM) as the conceptual sponsor of INTERMOT Cologne has agreed with Koelnmesse to extend their successful collaboration on the event earlier than planned so that manufacturers, dealers and motorcycle enthusiasts from all over the world will have planning security beyond 2010. The agreement reached in December 2009 extends to the end of 2016.

?Both parties to the agreement ? IVM and Koelnmesse ? joined forces in 2004 to further strengthen INTERMOT Cologne as a leading international motorcycle fair. The very close, intensive and successful partnership between IVM and Koelnmesse has given INTERMOT a new boost and provided the sector with sustained momentum,? said Oliver P. Kuhrt, Executive Vice President of Koelnmesse GmbH, and Reiner Brendicke, Chief Executive of IVM, in a joint statement. ?Ensuring such long-term collaboration is an important step in the future-oriented further development of INTERMOT Cologne and in strengthening theCologne venue as an international attraction for the motorised two-wheeler sector.?

In 2008, INTERMOT Cologne thrilled nearly 200,000 buyers and motorcycle enthusiasts, who came to the event from 110 countries. A total of 1,052 suppliers from 36 countries presented their new products. There were 354 suppliers from Germany, and 698 suppliers were from abroad, which means that 66 per cent of the exhibiting companies came from outside Germany. Headed by the ?Big Five? of the motorcycle and scooter sector ? BMW, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha ? all of the major European, American and Asian brands were represented in Cologne and impressively confirmed INTERMOT Cologne?s standing as a leading international trade fair for premieres.

BIKERNET INTERPLANETARY HEADQUARTERS FLOOD WATCH–Los Angeles will be hammered with 4 inches of rain today. The headquarters were under water Monday after only 1-inch. The troops are filling sandbags, and doing drugs to relieve the stress. Panic has enveloped this old 1925 building. Chris Maida, the editor of American Iron, flew in last night from the east coast to give our staff a survival seminar.

So far we’ve survived. I read that Montgomery, Alabama receives an average of 53 inches of rain annually. We are lucky to get 10, so 2-inches in one day is a major disaster.

J&P Cycles Offers Live Chat to Further Assist Customers–ANAMOSA, IOWA – There are plenty of perks for online shopping; one of which is that you never have to leave the comfort of your home; however, online shopping also has its disadvantages, such as, not being able to get one-on-one assistance when needed. But, that has all changed at J&P Cycles.

J&P recently enacted Live Chat, which allows customers to speak in real time with a customer service or technical service representative. What part do I need? Will this fit my bike? I placed my order three days ago, what is its status? These are all questions that have been answered courtesy of Live Chat.

Those wishing to use the Live Chat feature simply need to log onto the J&P Cycles website at WWW.JPCYCLES.COM and click on the Live Chat button at the top of the screen. There you will be prompted to enter your first name, last name, e-mail address and chat selection (customer service, Harley tech or Metric tech). Then, your request is submitted and wa-la, a J&P representative is with you! The average wait time to speak with a representative is only 30 seconds.

j&p 2

?Live Chat has greatly exceeded our expectations already,? said J&P President John Parham. ?Customers have sought assistance regarding fitment of parts, assistance during checkout and order status. Those same customers might not have been able to complete their transactions with J&P had this service not been available. For more than 30 years, J&P Cycles has taken pride in offering the best customer service in the industry. The Live Chat feature is just another way to improve our service. Faster service equals happy customers and that is what we want!?

While Live Chat is not available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, it is available during some handy hours: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT Monday through Friday.

AMAZING SPECIAL ELECTION IN MASSACHUSETTS–Last night, against all odds and millions of dollars from national Democrats, Big Labor and leftist special interest groups, Republican Scott Brown was elected to the U.S. Senate by the people of Massachusetts.

The Democrats threw the kitchen sink at Scott Brown in their effort to keep “Ted Kennedy’s seat,” as they called it. But thanks to grassroots leaders like you, Keith, our Party had the resources to take back what is really the “people’s seat” for the first time in over 48 years.

Republicans now have the 41st vote we need in the U.S. Senate to break Harry Reid’s filibuster-proof majority and put the brakes on Obama’s radical tax-and-spend, big government agenda. And it’s the vote we need to stop the Obama Democrats’ disastrous government takeover of our health care system.

BIKERNET RACE TEAM STEPS UP TO SUPPORT FLAT RAT RACING– We have made some progress on a couple fronts?..our bikes, and some support. Dean has received word back from Silkolene Oils, and they have committed to sponsoring Flat Rat Racing with their products?.Thanx Silkolene!!!

Fuller_Scout_01web

Also, in a twist with some good timing, he heard from an acquaintance here in town that is a professional photographer, Jason Maris, who says ? we spoke of wanting to start a vintage bike photo essay and video, which would include environmental portraits, motorcycle beauty shots, racing shots, mechanic shots, etc?..I would really like to explore this project from the garages to the the race track, with everything in between, so plan on me picking your brain soon.? He has been out to Fullers shop, and supposedly will make his way to my shop for some background shots soon. It appears we may have some decent pics for our Bikernet reports.

Fuller_Scout_02web

On the Bikes, my racebike will be on display as stated earlier, at the Great American Motorcycle show in Atlanta Jan 23,24.

Deans bike: We have the motor out, and replaced 5th gear in the tranny with a close ratio gear, a typical upgrade for our unlimited V1 class (not legal for the stock class). I?ve pulled his carbs, torn them down, and sent them to our Friend / Sponsor /and CB350 Guru Bill Moeller at Bore-Tech http://www.bore-tech.com/index.htm for some ?massaging?. Dean continues to make progress on his new chassis after hours at the shop.

Fuller_Scout_03web

My Bike: NOT a good evening last nite. Front drum brakes are required for the classes we run?.they are vintage bikes?anyhow, I run a Suzuki Titan 500 ( T500 ) front drum, which gives about twice the braking power of the stock CB350 unit. Well, these hubs are prone to cracking. This brake has been working exceptionally well, so I was scared to take it apart and have a look?..Well, I did, I used flourescent Penetrant NDI and a blacklight on it, and sure enough it was cracked, but not real bad. So, I decided a touchup welding was in order, and I brought it to my good friend Jim Sweggar, a 40 yr pro welder.

He did what he could, just as I asked,?.but the CRACKS progressed THRU the hub face!!!!! Dang it, I?m 2 weeks from a race?..and BRAKE-LESS!!!….then I recalled a brake my boyeeee Dean had stashed, a ?Water Buffalo? brake?..yeah, one of the most AWSOME front drum brakes ever produced. I think I may be back in business.

Fuller_Scout_05web

This brake won’t be ready for Talladega on Feb 6, but it will for Daytona! Just a tid-bit of Vintage knowledge, but the old 2 stroke street bikes had HUGE drums because there is no Engine braking with a 2 stroke?.kinda like a sloppy farrt.

More to come gents!

A hard body was sunbathing on a most deserted beach at Cape Canaveral, Florida–She looked up and noticed that biker had also decided to use the same beach. He walked up, placed his blanket on the sand near hers and began reading a book.

Smiling, she attempted to strike up a conversation with him. “How are you today?”

“Fine, thank you,” he responded, and turned back to his book.

“I love the beach. Do you come here often?” she asked.”First time since my wife passed away 2 years ago,” he replied and turned back to his book.

“I’m sorry to hear that. My husband passed away three years ago and it is very lonely, she countered. “Do you live around here?” She asked.

“Yes, I live in Melbourne ,” he answered, and again he resumed reading.

Trying to find a topic of common interest, she persisted,” Do you like pussy cats?”

With that, the biker dropped his book, came over to her blanket, tore off her swimsuit and gave her the most passionate lovemaking of her life.

When the cloud of sand began to settle, she gasped and asked the biker, “How did you know that was what I wanted?”

The biker replied. “How did you know my name was Katz?”

This action in Kentucky opposes “criminal gang” legislation– Out of staters concerned about traveling to KY might additionally contact KY Tourism Bureau with your concern about spending tourist dollars if these bills pass.

Please call your State Representative at 1-800-372-7181 and leave the following message: ?Please vote NO on HB 53 and HB 64.?

If you do not know who your state Representative is then please do not worry. The folks at the call center will help figure out who it is and/or you can ask to leave it for the House Judiciary Chairman Rep. John Tilley. He can decide to not even hear the bill and it will then die in committee which is what we would like to see happen.

DENNIS

These 2 bills can have dire consequences to your Liberty and expand the ability of law enforcement to target various groups they may not agree with. These are the two Criminal Gang bills being considered in the KY State Legislature. Below is a list of key elements of the bills. They are the same bills except for a technical correction between them.

? The definition of what constitutes a criminal gang is so broad that arguably the state Legislature, the VFW or even the Boy Scouts would be subject to its terms. (section 6-1)
? Does NOT define what constitutes as ?primary activities the commission of criminal acts?. (section 6-1)
? Creates a secret database that is not available to be checked by the public or individuals to contest that they may have been wrongly added to the database. Yet is shared widely throughout law enforcement and may create situations in which law enforcement targets individuals wrongly placed in the database. (sections 1 and 3)
? A person can be added to this database without his or her knowledge and the only level of proof to do so is ?reasonable suspicion.? (section 2 – 4)
? Allows a person to be added simply for suspicion they are a member or just associated with the group. (section 2-1-c,d)
? Fails to allow for due process in that you can be entered into this database and subject to civil and criminal prosecution based on the findings of a separate jurisdiction, state or even country. (Section 6-1-b)
? Due process is also denied since you can be labeled as a criminal gang member simply because an ?informant? or law enforcement officer says you are a member without trial, hearing or other legal proceeding. (section 6-2)
? Infringes upon the constitutional right to assemble by allowing guilt by association. Whether the person in question did anything wrong or not but can be found guilty for associating with others that may or may not have committed criminal acts. (section 6-2-e)
? The definition for ?Pattern of Criminal Gang Activity? is overly broad and could include as little as three speeding tickets. Even federal law limits this definition to violent offenses such murder; manslaughter and other class A type felonies. (section 6-4)
? No difference is made between recruitment in the first or second degree and first degree recruitment is impossible due to section 7-1-b, c.
? Section 9 allows for the taking of property but does not limit the type of property allowed to be taken sufficiently to those convicted of criminal acts. For instance a person is listed in the database as a ?suspected associate? or because a ?reliable informant? said he/she was a member, then is that person?s property then subject to forfeiture even though they had not been convicted of any crime?

Due to the vaguely worded language of this bill and its attempt to convey guilt by association thus infringing on our right to assembly, I would ask that every effort be made to defeat this bill as written. Please be sure to make the call at 800-372-7181 and ask your Representative to VOTE NO on these two bills.

Here are the links to the bills if you would like to read the test of the bills for yourself. The bills are nearly identical but have a few technical corrections.HB 53 — http://www.lrc.ky.gov/record/10RS/HB53.htmHB 64 — http://www.lrc.ky.gov/record/10RS/HB64.htm

MIC Urges CPSC to End Ban on Youth Vehicles–The MIC has urged chairman Inez Tenenbaum and the other members of the Consumer Product Safety Commission to recommend in its report to Congress on the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) an amendment that would end the current ban on youth powersports vehicles resulting from the law’s lead content provisions.

As part of the legislation that funded the CPSC in 2010, Congress gave CPSC a deadline of Jan. 15 to submit suggested improvements to CPSIA to the Senate and House Appropriations Committees, the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, the MIC stated in a release.

In a Jan. 12 letter, the MIC thanked the CPSC for its efforts to promote youth safety by implementing a temporary stay to make some youth vehicles available despite the ban. MIC also suggested three ways to completely or substantially exclude or exempt youth off-highway motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles from those provisions:

1. a ?functional purpose? amendment
2. a categorical exemption, such as would be provided by H.R. 1587
3. a change in the definition of ?accessibility? for powersports products

Even though the lead in metal parts of the vehicles do not pose a health hazard to youth riders, the CPSIA, as interpreted by CPSC, does not provide it with the flexibility it needs to grant an exclusion from the lead content limits. As a result, a CPSIA amendment is needed such as a ?functional purpose? amendment proposed by Chairman Tenenbaum in response to an earlier Congressional inquiry.

MIC General Counsel Paul Vitrano stated in the letter: ?Such an amendment should permit the Commission to grant exclusions for youth ATVs and motorcycles since lead in many accessible components is necessary for their functional purpose, contact with those components is infrequent and the elimination of lead is impracticable or impossible based on available scientific or technical information.?

Other solutions include a categorical exemption, such as would be provided by H.R. 1587, a pending bill with 55 bi-partisan co-sponsors, or a change in the definition of ?accessibility? for powersports products.

?Everyone agrees that the key to maintaining the safety of youth riders is for them to operate only appropriately sized vehicles,? Vitrano added. ?We are hopeful that CPSC?s report to Congress will pave the way to legislation that will ensure youth motorcycles and ATVs remain available.?

Vitrano said it will again be critical for enthusiasts and industry to mount a massive grassroots effort to advocate for one of these amendments to the CPSIA. For more information visit, www.stopthebannow.com.

View NW Florida hills

QUICK LOWER ALABAMA WEATHER REPORT– As I sedately rode out of town this morning at 7:42AM the fog hung in the cool morning air like moss on a southern oak. The thermometer hovered at 45 degrees but with all the moisture it felt colder. Our roller coaster ride with the weather continues. My trips haven?t amounted to a lot of riding lately due to rain, cold, etc. but today was too good to pass up, even 24 miles round trip is better than no trip at all. Things at work have not picked up as much as usual but hopefully they will after the end of this month. Maybe my boss won?t be another casualty of these bad economic times but only time will tell.

If anyone is interested in knowing a good place in SE Alabama to purchase a motorcycle and a good salesman to talk to call Dothan Harley- Davidson and ask for Tim Perry. He is the most knowledgeable person I have run across (next to my husband of course), as far as Harley’s are concerned. He has worked in the parts dept. and warehouse and now is in sales. He can tell you just about anything you want to know about bikes and if he does not know he will find out for you. He goes way above and beyond the job of just selling you a bike. Customer service is still his number one priority and he does a great job. (334) 792-0063. However, the hours have been cut back at the Harley Dealership and they are no longer open on Mondays, guess they are feeling the economic pinch as well, but they are there Tuesday thru Saturday.

I am originally from a very small community called Red Bay in the NW Florida panhandle. It is growing a bit and has a grocery store/diner called the Red Bay Grocery www.redbaygrocery.com (see it even has a web site now). From what I hear it has good food and entertainment every now and then. Check out the site. There are hills (ok, little bitty hills more like mole hills compared to real hills like out west) in NW Florida too. The picture shows the northern route out of town headed toward Alabama. And that is where I end this weeks tale. So everybody…

Ride safe.

BRASS BALLS MODEL 1 – RUNAWAY SALES LEADER–The Model 1 concept came from BossMan Dar Holdsworth understanding that in these uncertain financial times consumers would be looking for hi-value products. And in two months the concept came to life to great acclaim in Cincinnati, OH at the 2009 industry V-Twin show.

The Model 1 has become the firm?s all time sales leader and most popular Digger Bobber.

The Brass Balls motorcycle is a value-priced Bobber that comes in black and has zero options. It?s built around Henry Ford?s Model T idea, which came in one color and was built for mass appeal.

What it does have is a selection of the who?s who in custom v-twin manufacturing. American suppliers include an EVO 80 inch engine, a S&S carburetor, a Tauer Machine Warlord primary, a D&D dyno-tuned 2 into 1 performance pipe and a Baker 5 speed transmission.

In addition, the Brass Balls has wrapped the Digger Bobber in a 300,000 mile, 1 year warranty. There isn?t another custom-production manufacturer that provides so much for so little?

Product Fitments and Description

Designed to fit Softail, Dyna and Sportster models, BUB Straight Away 2-into-2 two systems have a bold aggressive look, traditional styling, outstanding performance and awesome sound.

Available in a rich and handsome chrome finish or with sinister black ceramic coating, all BUB Straight Aways come in ?Long? and ?Mid? lengths, with ?Flush Cut? and ?Stagger Cut? configurations. Long length systems end at the center of the rear axle and Mid Length systems end approximately six inches forward of the rear axle.

We also offer a Softail LD version of this system that extends past the rear axle. All BUB Straight Aways come standard with full length heat shields that have 220 degree coverage around the headers. Full length linear coverage means no unsightly bluing or yellowing of the header pipes or mufflers.

To compliment the overall look of these systems, Straight Away exhaust outlets are fitted with chrome plated billet aluminum end caps. Adding further to the style, a BUB Straight Away logo is precision die stamped in the upper portion of the rear header heat shield on all systems.

BubsstraightawayBanner2

Softail and Dyna model tuned length headers are 1 ? inch diameter tube that merge into a larger 2 ? inch diameter mufflers. Mufflers and headers are welded together to form an integral-one piece assembly. Each muffler section measures 20 inches in length and is fitted with a 2 inch diameter Dyno proven louvered baffle. This type of configuration provides for broader power and torque bands, more top end horsepower and a ?gotta have it? quality of sound. The entire length of the header and muffler assembly is covered by a single piece 2 ? inch heat shield.

The finished look of BUB Straight Away 2-into-2 systems makes a bold statement on all Harley Davidson and big twin motorcycles. Straight Away 2-into-2 systems for Sportster models accomplish the same style concept and quality of sound by using 1 ? inch headers ? 2 inch mufflers with 1 ? inch baffles and 2 ? inch heat shields.

BUB Straight Away 2-into-2 systems come with detailed installation instructions and all necessary mounting hardware and brackets. BUB Straight Aways are designed to perform on most engine configurations up to 113 cubic inches.

BBC Fires Hells Angels Employee After Police Criticism–Getting fired was probably the last thing on BBC reporter Steve Jones’s mind when he criticized the police for being too heavy-handed at a “Bulldog Bash” biker event in a radio interview. But the 20 year BBC veteran, speaking under the pseudonym of “Echo,” caught the attention of colleagues who recognized his voice, which led to his firing under the pretense that he violated the company’s code of conduct dictating that “journalists must disclose their interests and get permission before representing outside organizations.”

Jones was described by another BBC employee as being “… a lovely bloke and an excellent broadcaster but he’s a bit of a maverick.” Apparently, he also had a history of ruffling feathers at work by wearing short sleeves, which revealed his tattooed arms.

Though his identity as a Hells Angels member surely sounds salacious, his comments about the police– one of which can be seen at the bottom of this article– don’t sound all that provocative. Another one of his statements: “In the UK, we’re not organised crime – we’re a brotherhood of bikers.”

Did Jones deserve to be fired, or was he being discriminated against because he’s a Hells Angels member?

BIKERNET RAINY SO CAL THURSDAY NEWS

Lead

Crazy Times,

Right in the middle of a recession, we received more new sponsors than ever before. New to Bikernet includes the Cannonball Rally, The Donnie Smith, Arlen Ness and Rick Fairless show series, Bubs Exhaust, Bubs Bonneville, American Cycle Specialties, Illusion Cycles, Performance Machine and J&P Cycles. Watch for tech?s, and features on all these new companies. If you need anything regarding them, don’t hesitate to drop me a line.

On another front I just received a print bid for my first Chance Hogan Book. I’m a couple of months late, but its happening. I canceled our SEMA meeting yesterday due to flood threats, but a couple of guys showed up, the President of the California Dealers Association and Chris Maida, the editor of American Iron Magazine. We had a good discussion and several e-mails back and forth with Nathan, a SEMA VP. In these tough regulatory times, we need all the muscle possible to survive. SEMA is a motorcycle rights group for the 4-wheel crowd. It’s a big powerful organization, but I’m running under the impression that together we can help our industry with out-of-the-box marketing and support our motorcycle rights guys. We’ll take it a step at a time–anything to keep us alive and strong. “Bikers are the last bastion of freedom in this country,” John Paliwoda said during our discussion. “Kids are taught that regulation is the norm and freedom is no longer necessary.”

On the Bikernet entertainment front, we are about to offer Rick Fairless video/radio programs on Bikernet from Strokers Dallas. Rick is a big TV star and produces a video taped radio program every week. You’ll see it here on Bikernet. Plus, we’ve decided to sponsor another racing team. Hang on. It’s a vintage WERA road racing team. I don’t know shit about this sport, but what the hell, we’re going to find out and have some fun in the process. Charles Young and his Flat Rat Team will hit the track for 16 races this season across the South. He’s racing a ’70s Honda with drum brakes. Here’s a twist to the action; Bikernet Metric is going to sponsor another WERA team and we’re going to compete for the gold. This will be a blast.

Harley-Davidson Ends Deal with Lehman, Moves Trike Build In-house–Harley-Davidson has moved production of its Tri Glide and Street Glide trikes in-house, ending its manufacturing deal with Lehman Trikes, which had been supplying components, paint and conversion services to the Motor Co. The decision is effective this summer.

?Harley-Davidson has advised us they will be moving the trike assembly in-house to their York, Pennsylvania production facilities for the 2011 models,? stated Lehman president and CEO Ken Hines in a press release. ?Lehman is proud to have been a supplier to Harley-Davidson. They have been a great mentor to the company and our association has led to benefits that will far outlive the contract. We are pleased to have been associated with this program, and while disappointed, we understand their business rationale?.

Harley is making the move based purely on the restructuring of operations at the York plant, which will allow the company to streamline trike assembly and distribution, state Julie Chichlowski, Harley’s Trike Platform director.

CALIFORNIA AIR RESOURCES BOARD IN SERIOUS TROUBLE–Entire industries are destroyed by CARB regulations. Many requirements are not backed by legislation, and have become titled underground regulations, which can be tossed out.

Since the establishment in the early ’70s, its leadership has pushed its authority in ways never envisaged for an administrative agency. More often than not, CARB uses its power to intimidated and cower relatively weak industries into adopting strict regulations, and unreasonable low emission standards.

In the ’90 CARB started to levy fines against businesses and shops, but the California Motorcycle Dealers Association fought back and now CARB may be in trouble. Working in cooperation with other affected important industries, the National Marine Manufaturers Association, the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute, the Construction Industry Air Quality Coalition, and the Home Furnishings Alliance, the CMDA has joined in the process of reforming CARB. It must become an accountable state agency for pushing to develop clean air technology and promoting industry compliance in a fair and consistent way, away from the reputation as a rogue administrative agency that its certification and enforcement divisions has earned it. 2. 8,200 aftermarket shops (used, accessory and service retailers) in the U.S.
3. 177 motorcycle manufacturers and distributors in the U.S.
4. 7,140,000 registered motorcycles in the U.S. (2007)
Approx. 1,333,000 off-highway units (2007)
5. $26.4 billion is the estimated value of the U.S. motorcycle retail marketplace

These are 2008 figures. It would not be unreasonable to estimate a minimum 25% drop in some or all of the above figures for 2009 because of the severe economic downturn that has affected the motorcycle industry as much, or more, than other important transportation industries.

UNCLE MONKEY DISCUSSES STYLE–Style. It is something that we all have, often without knowing it. It is a subconscious sense that draws us to one thing or another.

A Harley motorcycle is a Harley motorcycle whether it is 1930?s or the latest Softail rolling off the assembly line. A crocket rocket is a crotch rocket whether it is a Honda, Yamaha, or Suzuki, and yes even the legendary Harley VR1000 looked like all the rest. While most of us Harley folk can find little wrong with chrome and flames over black; the sport bike riders turn their noses up appalled by it preferring eye blistering, green, reds, and yellows. When was the last time you saw a flat black crotch rocket.

We are all drawn to a certain look. Most of our bikes fall into the general parameter of black and chrome. But style still exists. Some of us like long drawn out choppers, some like square and boxy baggers. Some like their bikes spotlessly clean like they just rolled off the showroom floor, others like their bikes to look worn, road scarred and ready to make a run to the coast. For others it is long tassels hanging from our bikes, or a simple bandana tied to the handlebars in memory of a fallen brother. Maybe it is the placement of a 5-ball in the paint scheme or using an unusual color of gaskets on the primary that makes it different. Even those of us that don?t think we has a style really do deep down. The flat black and barn fresh look, the weathered and worn million-mile look.

Perhaps it is in the way we dress. We are drawn to certain style, pattern and method. When it comes to clothing bikers are a predictable bunch. Doo rag, black leather jacket and/or vest over a “Harley” t-shirt, blue jeans and heavy black shoes. It is rare to see someone dress otherwise, the exception being Sturgis and Daytona, when anything goes – thanks girls, you’ve been noticed and appreciated. Besides the heavy black leather there are subtle hues and notes. A particular cut of jacket or vest, the location of a patch, whether the t-shirt is a ?Harley? one or from a band years ago. We all like one style more then others. For some the look is boutique chic with the latest offerings from the Bar & Shield, others it is patches and pins from across this great land and around the world. Like pins on a map they say were the person has been and where they are going. Some like the generic, preferring to blend then stand out. For others it is worn and weathered much like their souls, ready to persevere.

In the end our style is like our fingerprint. It is what sets us apart from the others of our ilk.

-bad Uncle Monkey

It’s more than style, it’s Freedom. If we don’t fight for it and demand it from our government, it will be gone.?Bandit

BikernetInsuranceConsumerbanner

MEMO FROM BIKERNET INSURANCE OFFICES–January 21, 2010 – Bikernet’s San Diego Branch Office – Special Construction Motorcycles – A Bikernet Insurance Center Specialty.

No matter what type of motorcycle you’re riding, there’s a good chance the Bikernet Insurance Center can insure it. For example, let’s talk Special Construction bikes and making them eligible for Comprehensive and Collision coverage and all the other coverages you need to protect your hide.

Special Construction Bikes:

Also called Limited Production Cruisers, Custom Assembled Motorbikes, State Assigned VIN Projects, Non-Factory Builds, Bike Kits, Conversion Kits, Homemade Jobs, Rebuilts, Retitled 2 & 3 Wheelers, Non-NADA Appraisables, etc. A customized bike is unique and cannot be rated like other manufactured motorcycles. It needs to be reviewed individually by an insurance pro who understands how customs are built from the ground up. The key to successfully insuring a special construction bike is in the assessment of its fair “built” value and with dealing with an insurance company that knows how a custom machine comes to life. Here’s how to get it done.

1. Pictures Tell The Story

– Need photographs. Good idea to take photos as the build is going on to show construction stages and significant features and parts. At minimum, need photographs of both sides of the bike.

2. Documentation Is Key – submit docs with your application.

– Appraisals and/or other documentation clearly supporting the market value of the bike is highly recommended for high-end customs. Documentation needs to be completed within one year of the build date.

– Keep original bills of sale for parts and other receipts that help establish the value of the bike.

3. Make the bike “road worthy”.

– Make sure the bike is built to be “licensed” for public roads if at all possible. Underwriters like to see all the “safety” equipment on the bike.

4. Keep your engine size below 6001 cc (366ci).

– We’re good at the Bikernet Insurance Center, but its really tough getting a rocket engine custom insured Bros.

5. Chain that baby up.

– Be prepared to show proof that that your custom job is secure at all times in a locked garage or other fully enclosed, locked structure when not in use. Tip: Locked carport, utility trailer or fenced yard with a pit bull does not meet this definition.

6. Get yourself or the assigned operator of the bike qualified for the “Good Driver Discount.”

– You’ll be glad you did from a premium expense standpoint.

7. Got another motorcycle to insure? Home, business, biker jewelry?

– Place all your insurance with the same insurance company that will insure your special construction project. Insurance companies like that and you’ll likely get multi-vehicle and multi-product discounts.

8. Stay away from nitrous oxide systems on your builds and avoid custom built-for-racing bikes.

– These are very difficult to insure properly and will cost you a tattoo, arm and a leg.

Special Construction Bikes – a Bikernet Insurance Center “specialty.”

The Buell Motorcycle Company, a subsidiary of Harley-Davidson, has ceased manufacturing motorcycles. On January 28th, 2010 Liquid Asset Partners, a Michigan liquidation firm, will begin the liquidation sale of vehicles and factory equipment from the State-of-the-Art facility. Over the past 26 years Buell has manufactured over 130,000 motorcycles and created avid fans worldwide. “Buell had a great run as a quality American motorcycle with fans worldwide.” says Bill Melvin Jr., CEO of Liquid Asset Partners. “Buell spared no expense in making their beautiful bikes and in purchasing the factory equipment. Regardless of cost or loss, millions of dollars worth of equipment and tools will be sold directly on the factory floor. The Liquidation firm will be selling at enormous discounts, right from the start. Customers can buy tools for their garage, computers for their offices, and motorcycle specific equipment for making and testing their bikes.

“This factory was a state of the art, small scale factory. It’s the type of facility that many tools and items will be of great interest to the home mechanic and motorcycle fanatic.” says Bill Melvin Jr., CEO of Liquid Asset Partners. ” To make the sale successful we are prepared to deeply discount the inventory and sell everything in one month! It’s stacked high and we’re selling it cheap. The public won’t want to miss these deals”.
