Hey,
This post is a good one. I like to find new and unique news for Cantina Members, hot girls, and anything I can’t share with the general public.
I think this is a hot example, but we’ll see as I begin to edit it. A brother wrote me about the Redhead of Redheads. He said he needed a pal, redhead, blonde, brunette, you name it.
I pointed out how fortunate I am to have the redhead back in my life. She was my fourth wife and still had most of the wedding gifts from our 1986 wedding. Amazing, especially if I told you about her last 30 years. Sinwu still helps out around the headquarters. My fifth wife Rebecca looks after my grandkids. There’s more, like Queen La La who is helping right now with this Post, and Laura the official Bikernet bookkeeper, but I’m a lucky fella at 67 years of age.
It’s nuts, and I try to explain this to kids all the time. The good years, the wild years need to be used to build for the future, and most of us outlaws didn’t pay any attention.
You have from 20 to 60 to set shit straight. Then you might be stuck with another 30 years dealing with whatever you created. Try to get it right, at least part of the time. The future is coming whether you like it or not.
Let’s hit the news.
HEADWINDS HEADLIGHTS ON ROADSTERS— I ran into Joel Felty at the Grand National Roadster Show yesterday in Pomona, California. It was jammed and some of his motorcycle headlights were featured on some of the most beautiful Hot Rods in the competition.
“I’ve always been in the bike business, but I’ve set up here for 16 years,” said Joel. “I’m proud to have some of my billet headlights on several of the Americas Most Beautiful Hot Rod Winners over the years.”
LAW TIGERS MAY COME TO BIKERNET— We’ve been discussing some business with Law Tigers. They seem to be involved with motorcycle events all over the land.
They follow the Russ Brown marketing program. Some brothers don’t care for the ambulance chasing business. Let us know what you think of Law Tigers. Do they take good care of riders during injured or tough times.

A Brief Manifesto.
I have a bitch and a project that could save the custom motorcycle aftermarket and place freedom at the forefront of our nation once more.
Sounds ominous but it’s not, then again it is a tough alteration to current government thinking. And I believe our industry could be at the forefront.
Why can’t we prove that Freedom always needs to be a consideration. Why can’t we prove that all the custom motorcycles in the country will never have any significant impact on the environment and agencies need to leave us alone.
If we were successful, this could place Freedom at the forefront in many applications from hot rods, to go carts, to speed boats.
Could this become a priority in 2016?
A comment from the publisher:
Great! I would also consider adding that the inherent freedom in people that work with their hands is at risk at the same time since 65% or the motorcycle industry is the mom and pop shop.
Many of the manufacturers who serve it are from the small manufacturing segment and need the support of those who would discourage government agencies from marginalizing their ability to make and offering the custom market and make a living to boot.

DUCATI DEBUTS ALL-NEW XDIAVEL DRAXTER– At the Motor Bike Expo of Verona (22-24 January) Ducati is exhibiting a further addition to its XDiavel cruiser world, the all-new draXter. This “concept bike” interprets the XDiavel world from a Drag-racing viewpoint. The project was developed by the Ducati Design Center’s Advanced Design area, a section dedicated to exploring the future style and design concepts of Ducati motorcycles.
Their ideas and sketches have allowed the Ducati prototype department to come up with the draXter, starting from a standard production XDiavel. The beating heart of the draXter is that of an extreme dragster with premium racing componentry.
The suspension and brakes are taken directly from the Panigale Superbike. This styling exercise has accentuated the lines and proportions of the XDiavel making them more extreme than ever and turning the draXter into a unique, breath-taking “racer”.
The number 90 on the side of the Ducati draXter recalls the racing world, yet also pays homage to Ducati’s 90th anniversary, being celebrated this year.
The draXter, like all the new XDiavel cruiser bikes, will be at the Motor Bike Expo, on the Ducati stand (Hall 4 Stand 23 C), until Sunday 24 January. In addition to the unprecedented concept bike and XDiavel and XDiavel S factory bikes, visitors will also be able to take a look at the brand’s new Cruiser range of accessories and apparel.

And at the zenith of his fame, how he would suddenly appear at the old village and stalk into church, brown and weather-beaten, in his black velvet doublet and trunks, his great jack-boots, his crimson sash, his belt bristling with horse pistols, his crime-rusted cutlass at his side, his slouch hat with waving plumes, his black flag unfurled, with the skull and crossbones on it, and hear with swelling ecstasy the whisperings, “It’s Tom Sawyer the Pirate!–the Black Avenger of the Spanish Main!”

Zenith comes from the Middle English cenith, which in turn traces back to the Old Spanish zenit. The lineage continues to the Arabic samt meaning “road” as in samt ar-ras, “road above one’s head.”

COLORADO SWAPMEET SHOOTOUT– One person was killed and six people were hurt Saturday afternoon after shots were fired and a stabbing occurred at a motorcycle show in Denver, police said.
The violence broke out at about 12:45 p.m. (2:45 p.m. ET) during Colorado Motorcycle Expo weekend at the National Western Complex, said Denver police spokeswoman Raquel Lopez.
Three people were listed in critical condition at Denver Health Medical Center and three were in stable condition, said Dr. Kevin McVaney, an emergency physician. He would not specify what kind of injuries they suffered.
Denver Health earlier tweeted that nine people had been taken to area hospitals.
Lopez did not say whether the person killed was stabbed or shot. Nobody had been arrested, she said, though men led away from the event in handcuffs were being questioned.
As a safety precaution, the hospital emergency department was locked down until about 4:30 p.m. (6:30 p.m. ET), according to a medical center tweet.
Denver Health is back to normal operations. Lock down on the ED was lifted. Special thanks to our Medics, ED/Trauma staff, and Denver Police
The Denver Post quoted a witness as saying the feud was started by rival biker gangs. The witness asked to remain anonymous because of fear of retaliation, the newspaper said.
Bob Cook, who was running a booth for leather goods at the expo, told the Post he heard shots and saw people dive under tables. He didn’t know what caused the shooting but said that minutes later the scene returned to normal despite puddles of blood on the floor.
Britney Shaw, who was working at a jewelry stand, told the Post she saw a group of about 50 men brawling on the stairs, which were covered in blood and cordoned off.
Lopez was asked whether motorcycle gangs were involved. She said she didn’t know. Video showed men wearing vests with patches gathered outside the hospital.
The complex is near the Denver Coliseum. Police initially tweeted that the incident occurred at the coliseum.
Organizers of the motorcycle expo have not announced whether the event will be held on Sunday.

CANTINA INTERNATIONAL NEWS— A senior Russian official has been arrested for committing literal highway robbery. Alexander Protopopov, acting deputy chief of the country’s prison service, allegedly supervised a scheme that saw a 31-mile stretch of public road in a remote region “dismantled and driven away” over the course of a year, starting in 2014.
Solice said the more than 7,000 huge concrete slabs covering the highway were delivered to a company selling them for a profit. Protopopov faces up to 10 years in prison.

OVER 200 MPH 80-INCH BUELL— We ran into Steve Huff at the Grand National Roadster Show yesterday. He built maybe the fastest 80-inch 2007 Buell in the world. His aerodynamic monster with nitrous has gone from passes at 152.545 mph to 202.84 mph from 2008 to 2013. Incredible.
Destination Harley-Davidson’s and Steve Huff’s journeyed to become the first pushrod motor originally produced by Harley-Davidson Motor Company to break 200 MPH in a chassis created by Harley-Davidson Motor Company.
Destination Harley-Davidson’s 2007 Buell XBRR is the only 1350 cc push rod motor of any kind and in any documented open air motorcycle land speed record class to exceed 200 MPH.
His title Sponsor is Destination Harley-Davidson in Tacoma and Silverado, Washington. We will follow his progress.
SCRAMBLE FOR THE POSITIVE BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for January 28, 2016
Roundabouts are the demon spawn. They put one in where I used to live and, by their own admission, it caused more accidents than the old stoplight. So they built more.
Other areas I travel through have them. Some of the directional signs strongly resemble Aztec drawings. So now I have to figure out which lane to be in along with dodging the teen on the cell phone, who will realize too late they’re in the wrong lane and swing across. There are already too many distractions, don’t add more’

SYLVESTER STALLONE TAKES A PUNCH— When the actor filmed the Rocky series, he ordered his co-starts—some of them professional fighters—to land real punches on him to make the fight scenes look as realistic as possible “without getting killed.” He was left with a cracked rib after taking body blows from former NFL linebacker Carl Weathers.
“But the hardest I was ever hit,” says Stallone, “was with Dolph Lundgren,” the 6-foot-5-inch former World Kickboxing Champion. He spent four days in intensive care—the pericardial sac around his heart swelled. The folks at the hospital said, “Usually, this kind of injury you get from a head-on collision, a car accident.”

SIDECAR MASTER PASSES– Doug “Mr. Sidecar” Bingham: The Last Round-Up
You could say Doug Bingham cast a long shadow, the good kind, across not only the USA but worldwide thanks to his more than half century’s worth of passionate dedication to the sport of “sidehacking” aka all things relating to sidecars.
He designed the “flying chairs,” built them, raced them, brought them to the public’s attention, fought for their rights and safety, even helped ABC television broadcast the 1984 Olympics in L.A. for which with he received multiple Emmy Awards for Outstanding Videography and Live Event Coverage.
Doug also responded to the call of the U.S. military to design off-road machines, taught untold numbers of people how to pilot sidecars, often transforming their two-wheeled street bikes to three wheelers and steering them into a whole new form of motorcycle appreciation.
As they say racing improved the breed and for Doug it was three-wheeling on the track, his skills securing the 1968 and 1969 Sidecar Road Racing Championships. While he enjoyed bikes of all flavors, in this case he was piloting a Harley-Davidson powered sidecar “rig” of his own design with Ed Wade as racing passenger/co-pilot.
In addition to being a 50-year AMA and Charter Life member, he was recognized for his many contributions when chosen for the 1998 AMA MVP Award for advancing the cause of motorcycling and in 2003 inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame as well as serving as the Director of the Sidecar Industry Council.
It was in 1969 that Doug opened Side Strider Inc., the Van Nuys, CA shop producing his own Bingham Mark I sidecar which brought renewed interest in the sport, even spotlighted by a feature in Popular Science magazine.
Doug passed away on January 27, 2016 at 76, naturally.
We can just see Doug blasting around whatever three-wheeling event he’s moved onto and no doubt leading the way as always. We’ll miss you, Doug.

ROUNDABOUTS RAISE CONCERNS–
Roundabouts. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, members always respond with passion when we write about them, as we did in last week’s e-newsletter. We thought we would share a few thoughts covering both sides of the issue.
From a New York Member:
One local roundabout cost taxpayers over a quarter of a million dollars while creating an impediment for local rescue squad vehicles which must wait for traffic to clear. Additionally, a great deal of private land was condemned (and taken off the tax rolls) to make way for this roundabout which has effectively increased waiting times for traffic exiting businesses downstream to enter the highway. Formerly the traffic light which controlled the intersection allowed those exiting businesses a lull in traffic during which they could enter the highway.
Not too far from here is a stretch of highway with five roundabouts in a row, all in less than a stretch of five miles. From the air it’s an impressive, if not ludicrous sight.
To me roundabouts seem to be symbolic of the lack of intellect of traffic planners. Any traffic plan which requires detailed signage and involved interpretation can only lead to delays and accidents. Driving is difficult enough without it becoming an intellectual challenge at each intersection.
From a Minnesota Member:
I’m a huge fan of them. When properly designed and used, they greatly reduce gridlock. Many motorists do not understand them and come to complete stops, treating them as four way stops. Other motorists do not understand that you are not supposed to change lanes inside of them. Many of them are designed too small, particularly for trucks that then have to invade several lanes. When roundabouts are installed in areas not having them previously it’s important for the authorities to partner with local media to educate drivers on their correct use.
From Tom Beckett, Arkansas:
I have not encountered most of these, but it all strikes me as an attempt to reinvent the wheel. Traffic engineers must need something to justify their existence.
The real problem to be addressed is driver education. American drivers are horribly inept when it comes to driving through traffic circles; of course they are horribly inept performing a lot of driving maneuvers, judging by the drivers who can’t manage to drive straight ahead without running into things. When I lived near Binghamton, New York, some years back, there was a circle on NY 201 in Johnson City. The accidents and congestion there became such an issue that NYSDOT spent millions replacing it by making a flyover for NY 201, with the other local streets served by a much smaller circle that was accessed by an exit from the state road.
The original circle had slip lanes. They are a great idea, as long as they are used as intended. One of the issues with the circle was that drivers would be in the lane that “slipped” and stop as they approached the circle. At best, this caused congestion, but all too often it led to a rear-end crash. Better signage would have helped, but all the signage in the world isn’t going to do any good if the motorist doesn’t know what he’s doing.
I suppose roundabouts are an attempt to idiot proof intersections; it would work better if we stopped making idiots. But, driver education is not a cost-effective program for schools.
From Jim Burton, New Hampshire:
I wish you would call them what they are rather than the “cute” British term of “roundabout.” They are “rotaries” here in New England and in the United States. Those who are pushing for more of them here renamed them to make them sound cute and hip.
This style of traffic control works great in rural areas when traffic is light. How many of us have been caught at a light when there are no other vehicles in sight? Well rotaries solve that problem very effectively. When traffic is heavy, however, they tend to cause a lot of accidents from people who do not yield the right-of-way. In the United States, they are installing them in areas where the traffic is the heaviest.
We were in Ireland in early 2015 and traffic control for the entire country is based on roundabouts. In two weeks, I think we encountered only 10 traffic lights. Compared to the United States, traffic is very light in Ireland and everyone knows the proper way to go through a roundabout. We even went through a triple roundabout safely and with ease.
Here in New England, Massachusetts has been removing rotaries as fast as they can, and New Hampshire has been adding them. For the most part, people go out of their way to avoid them, often driving through residential areas. We encountered an accident at a rotary once, and traffic was so snarled that the responding officer had to park his cruiser and walk four blocks down to the accident.
We think they are absolutely horrible and we avoid them whenever we can.
