INCREDIBLE BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for August 17, 2017

Hey,

I’m sorta lost today. We are still unwinding from the Sturgis run and dealing with the aftermath. We fixed something wrong with the Shovelhead and need to address a couple more issues.

My Factory Racer is still in Vegas until Las Vegas Bike Fest. I’m on the search for a new pickup. Car dealerships are very strange places now.

We started to work on Franky’s Dyna right away. He’s anxious to ride it. We just need to hook up the wiring and install the sheet metal. We need to install the new LowBrow taillight and a few other details. He needs a Saddlemen seat and we need to haul his bike to a dealer for the security code reset.

The list goes on and folks are already talking about Sturgis for next year. We might be involved with a Trike Show sponsored by Bikernet Trikes and Iron Trader News. Let’s hit the news:

The Bikernet Weekly News is sponsored in part by companies who also dig Freedom including: Cycle Source Magazine, the MRF, Las Vegas Bikefest, Iron Trader News, ChopperTown and BorntoRide.com, Sturgis Museum.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY MOTIVATIONAL WORD OF THE DAY—
Nimbus:  [nim-buh s]

noun
1.
a cloud, aura, atmosphere, etc., surrounding a person or thing: The candidate was encompassed with a nimbus of fame.
2. Classical Mythology. a shining cloud sometimes surrounding a deity when on earth.

QUOTES

… it was a lost town and yet it was haloed with the invincible nimbus of mystery …

— Roberto Bolaño, Woes of the True Policeman, translated by Natasha Wimmer, 2012

ORIGIN
Latin nimbus and nebula (“cloud, mist”) both derive from a complicated Proto-Indo-European root enebh- or nebh- (with many variations, e.g., nembh-) “cloud, fog, mist.” A simple variant of this root, nebh-, is the source of Greek néphos “cloud,” Slavic (Polish) niebo “sky, heaven,” and Hittite nebis “sky, heaven.”

The variant nembh- is the source of Latin nimbus “violent rainstorm, thundercloud,” but also “cloud (in general)” and finally “bright cloud that envelops a deity appearing to mortals,” which in Christian usage comes to mean “saint’s halo or aureole.” Nimbus entered English in the early 17th century.

HANG ON, STURGIS 2018 NEWS– No Rest For The Weary: SMRi Unveil New Logo For Next Year’s 78th STURGIS MOTORCYCLE RALLY

The 77th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally featured over a half a million riders of all stripes, who descended on the Black Hills region to help celebrate the world’s most iconic motorcycle gathering.

“Our long term vision is the Sturgis institution,” said Sturgis Mayor Mark Carstensen. “So while the 77th rally was a heck of a good time, it’s just the one rally. That’s why we unveil the 78th logo with as much excitement and celebration as we did for the 75th, 76th and 77th. It’s about the totality of the Sturgis legacy.”

The unveiling of the logo took place on Main Street in downtown Sturgis, SD, at the East Photo Tower. Mayor Mark Carstensen presided over the ceremony. The presentation of the new logo marks the beginning of the Sturgis preparation cycle, which continues throughout the year until next August.

The board positions represent a variety of organizations and interests in the Sturgis area, including the Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce, City of Sturgis, Sturgis-area commercial property owners, and rally- and non-rally–oriented businesses.

STURGIS MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM HALL OF FAME BREAKFAST– Davidson, others inducted into Sturgis Museum Hall of Fame
Meade County Times-Tribune staff

The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame recognizes individuals or groups who have made a long-term, positive impact on the motorcycle community.

Those individuals were honored Wednesday morning at the annual Sturgis Museum Hall of Fame Induction Breakfast.

Inductees for 2017 included William G. Davidson, Lifetime Achievement Award; Colleen Barnett and Mike Taylor, Cory Ness, Mark Shadley, Jim Thiessen, Terry Vance and Rod Woodruff.

Organizers say they honor the Hall of Fame members by telling their stories and history of their stories, and by showcasing their contributions and accomplishments.
Here is a look at the class of 2017:
William G. Davidson Lifetime Achievement Award.

Considered the patriarch of motorcycling by bikers around the globe, William G. Davidson’s artistic vision and passion for riding have not only shaped Harley-Davidson’s identity for more than 50 years, they have transformed the entire motorcycle world. Affectionately known as “Willie G.” by millions of motorcycle enthusiasts, Harley-Davidson’s Chief Styling Officer Emeritus and Brand Ambassador is set to be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Already a pre-2001 member of the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum Hall of Fame, Willie G. was joined by his lovely wife Nancy in the Class of 2010.

The son of former Harley-Davidson president, William H. Davidson, and the grandson of one of the original founders, William A. Davidson, he has helped shape the iconic look, sound and feel that have defined Harley-Davidson motorcycles for more than 50 years. Starting in the 1970s, he developed iconic designs which kept Harley-Davidson motorcycles selling while the company completed technological and manufacturing improvements. Throughout his career he developed the bikes that came to define Harley-Davidson, from the XLCR Cafe Racer up through the V-Rod and the Street Glide.

Colleen Barnett & Mike Taylor —
Colleen Barnett-Taylor started her motorsports career at Barnett Clutches & Cables while still in her childhood working for her parents (and original 1948 founders), Charlie and Afton Barnett. Since the beginning Colleen has been a driving force and integral part of the company. Mike Taylor, already a long-time motorcycle rider/enthusiast, joined the firm in 1968 which cemented a great partnership after he and Colleen were married. Together they have operated Barnett since 1975 and owned the company since 1993.

Cory Ness — Don’t think for a second that Cory Ness rode his famous father’s coattails into the Sturgis Hall Of Fame. At only 10 years old, he disassembled his bicycle, painted it, chromed its parts and entered it in the Oakland Roadster Show. The first motorcycle he turned his talents to was a wrecked CB350. After building it back up, Cory sold it before even getting a chance to ride it. He was 14! Today Cory is the chief designer behind Arlen Ness Enterprises where he runs the day-to-day business. In between designing new parts and accessories, he still finds time to wrench on custom bikes periodically.

Mark Shadley — Since the early 1970s Mark Shadley and Shadley Bros. Motorcycles have been shaping the perception of what a custom motorcycle is. The quality, detail and innovation of his custom built bikes have made him well recognized by both the motorcycle industry and his peers. His enthusiasm and involvement in the custom motorcycle industry has been a lifelong passion.

Jim Thiessen —
For 50 years, machinist and go-fast guy Jim Thiessen has generated trust with riders, record breakers, racers and certified Harley mechanics around the world whom use JIMS products on a daily basis. Today JIMS is one of the industry’s leading producers of performance parts, accessories, tools, transmissions and high-performance engines — all aimed at enhancing the Harley rider’s experience.

Terry Vance —
#35 on the NHRA’s 50 greatest drag racers of all- time, 14-time national champ Terry Vance never lets off the gas! Terry and his tuner Byron Hines shared a passion for the quarter mile from the early days, but they also shared a vision of creating a company that would be a pillar of the motorcycle aftermarket, and they used their unrivaled achievements in racing to build a brand that would unmistakably stand for quality and performance.Terry Vance is an American former professional motorcycle drag racer, racing team owner and manufacturer of high performance parts for motorcycles.

Rod Woodruff — Since 1981. the Sturgis Buffalo Chip Campground has treated millions of motorcyclists to rock concerts, camping, entertainment and more. Rod Woodruff is the man who brought Rock & Roll to the Black Hills and now hosts a 10-day Concert Series each August during the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. The Buffalo Chip provides a music festival, various other forms of entertainment, and full service tent, RV and cabin camping on almost 600 acres in rural Meade County.

INDIAN MOTORCYCLE RACING SECURES ITS FIFTH PODIUM SWEEP OF
2017 SEASON AT BLACK HILLS HALF-MILE–
Jared Mees Captures Seventh Victory of the Season; Scout FTR750 Tallies 29 Total Podiums

The Indian Wrecking Crew and the Scout FTR750 secured their 11th first-place finish and fifth podium sweep of the 2017 American Flat Track season at the Black Hills Half-Mile. Season points leader Jared Mees captured his seventh win of the season, while fellow Wrecking Crew riders Bryan Smith and Brad Baker placed second and third, respectfully.

During the Black Hills Half-Mile Main Event Mees built a lead of over two seconds before a red flag called for a restart. Mees continued his incredible performance and got out well ahead of the field during the restart, while Smith and Baker battled for second.

“With two races in three days, we all had our work cut out for us and my team did an incredible job prepping the Scout FTR750,” said Mees. “With six races remaining, we feel we’re hitting our stride and are putting ourselves in a good position to bring home the championship.”

Through 13 races this season, Indian Motorcycle Racing and the Scout FTR750 have secured 29 of the season’s 39 podiums. The Indian Wrecking Crew holds the top three positions in the season’s point standings with Mees at 272, Smith at 236 and Baker jumping back into third with 196 total points.

“For our team to sweep the Black Hills Half-Mile after running a challenging track at the Buffalo Chip TT just two nights earlier says a lot about their commitment and preparation,” said Gary Gray, Vice President – Product for Indian Motorcycle. “It’s no secret the Wrecking Crew is the team to beat. And despite that, Jared, Bryan and Brad continue to bring their very best at each and every race. With six races remaining, we’re making a strong push for the Manufacturer and Individual Championships.”

LEGISLATIVE ALERT RUMOR from the MRF–
Over the weekend, I received a number of emails and phone calls regarding a concerning article that states that the Department of Transportation (DoT) has issued a new regulation that would ban children from riding on motorcycles.

Supposedly, the new regulation will take effect in January and be enforced in April of 2017. The article also cites the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) as a key player in developing the regulation.

We have strong reason to believe this article is 100% FALSE on every count.

First, I regularly monitor the Federal Register. This is a daily government publication that lists ALL agency rules that are being developed or taking effect. There has been no mention of anything remotely close to what the article is reporting. By law, any proposed or final rules/regulations must be posted to the Federal Register and to date, there has been nothing on this subject.

Secondly, the article cites a “Harold Mathers” as a Department of Transportation spokesperson. There is no one by that name at the Agency.

Lastly, I have reached out to the American Motorcyclist Association and they have no knowledge or involvement with the article. They are considering issuing their own statement to correct any rumors that may be circulating. I will pass this along if/when it becomes available.

In my conversations with the AMA, there is speculation that there is a group or a manufacturer that posts false articles like this and then when your IP address becomes associated with visiting the website and reading the article, the group can build an email list targeted towards a specific demographic. In this case, their target was motorcyclists.

Apparently, this is not the first time fake news stories about motorcycling issues has occurred. There was a curfew rule rumor some months ago that was also proven to be false reporting in an attempt to generate a marketing list of engaged motorcyclists.

Again, we have every reason to believe this is false. Finally, I will be contacting the Department of Transportation to suggest they get their counsel involved to address the blatant lies in this article and false statements.

Please let me know if you have any questions. (See the article below my signature)

BIKERNET RECEIVES A SPECIAL BUFFALO CHIP AWARD–
Real briefly, those who’ve demonstrated the backbone, skills, determination and cajones to start a business, grow it and prosper amidst difficult economic challenges in an intensely competitive marketplace have earned respect and recognition.

The Buffalo Chip would like to give some love to those in the motorcycle industry who’ve achieved milestones. The Motorcycle Industry Reception held on the first Sunday of the Chip’s annual event seems like a suitable place to do that for those few who’ve started, met the challenges and continue to build businesses that have served the public and motorcycle industry well.

You, through Bikernet.com, have now been doing that for twenty (21) years. With your permission, we’d like to present you and a few others with what we’ve named the 2017 Motorcycle Moxie Awards.

Sincerely – and with congratulations,

MOTORCYCLE PROFILING PROJECT REPORT, MC Members Being Arrested For Unlawful Carry Without Cause–The MPP is issuing this Travel Advisory to all members and associates of motorcycle clubs traveling in or to the state of Texas.

WARNING- As a motorcycle club member, there is a legitimate risk of being arrested for Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon in the state of Texas solely because of membership or association with a motorcycle club, even if you posses a legitimate carry permit recognized by the state. The MPP believes that the risk is exponentially higher for members and associates of 1% motorcycle clubs.

ABC News in El Paso reported this last weekend that 5 members of the Bandidos Motorcycle Club were arrested for Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon, even though every one could legally possess a weapon, solely because of their membership or association with the motorcycle club.

They were initially stopped by the El Paso PD Gang Unit for an alleged failure to properly signal. All 5 men are from New Mexico and were traveling to El Paso to attend a funeral for a deceased member. (NOTE: The MPP has confirmed that only 3 of the 5 were members of the Bandidos Motorcycle Club)

This is not a isolated event. In November 2015, the MPP reported that “the trend to confiscate handguns and revoke legally obtained permits from motorcycle club members in America is on the rise.

From Houston to Long Island, and now back to Texas, law enforcement is aggressively targeting the gun rights of those in motorcycle clubs.” (See Revoking Gun Rights from Motorcycle Clubs is on the Rise, November 12, 2015). That trend, particularly in Texas, shows no signs of slowing down.

This assault on fundamental 1st and 2nd Amendment rights is based on a Texas statute that makes it illegal for a gang member to carry a weapon. Many motorcycle clubs are labeled gangs by law enforcement, so the implications are vast and impact thousands of US citizens.

According to the Texas Penal Code Sec. 46.02, UNLAWFUL CARRYING WEAPONS. A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries on or about his or her person a handgun, illegal knife, or club if the person is a member of a criminal street gang, as defined by Section 71.01. “Criminal street gang” means three or more persons having a common identifying sign or symbol or an identifiable leadership who continuously or regularly associate in the commission of criminal activities.

This statute is diametrically opposed to fundamental 1st Amendment liberties. To permit the government to impose restrictions on any person “who wears the insignia of [a motorcycle club], without regard to or knowledge of that individual’s specific intent to engage in the alleged violent activities committed by other members, is antithetical to the basic principles enshrined in the First Amendment and repugnant to the fundamental doctrine of personal guilt that is a hallmark of American jurisprudence.” see Coles v. Carlini 162 F.Supp.3d 380 (2015)

Every American should pay attention and be extremely concerned. “In a very real way, the fate of motorcyclists will serve as a blue print for other groups in the future. Disarming bikers, even those associated that have no criminal records of any kind, is a strategy to cripple the rights base of one of the most visible and active grassroots social and political movements in America.

Much of the movement’s efforts are to combat civil liberty abuses by law enforcement targeting motorcyclists. If bikers are successfully marginalized as criminals not worthy of baseline liberties, then the strength of our political movement exposing law enforcement abuses will be crippled as well. It’s a blueprint for social control in the 21st Century.” (See It’s illegal for Motorcycle Club Members to Own Guns? That’s What Authorities Say., August 25, 2015)

AUSTRALIAN CLUB NEWS–
Govt figures claim that half of South Australia’s club members are behind bars.

South Australian Correctional Services figures released for the first time an assertion that as of July 1 this year, 62 per cent of the 251 patched club members in South Australia are behind bars.

The Government claims a combination of ‘unrelenting’ police pressure and new anti-association laws has put 156 members in jail, an increase of 66 from five years ago. These 156 club members are serving sentences ranging from a few months for minor offences such as assault, while others are serving significant sentences of up to 15 years for serious drug trafficking and organized crime matters.

One is serving a sentence for manslaughter of a drug dealer.

They include 25 members of the Mongols, compared with just seven members on July 1, 2012 — a 257 per cent increase.
Police believe there are now fewer than a dozen members in the community.

Recent police operations have also ‘smashed the Nomads’ in SA. Eight members are now in prison — the entire South Australian contingent.

The number of Hells Angels members in custody has more than doubled from 13 in 2012 to 31 members in jail this year — a 138 per cent increase.

Police Minister Peter Malinauskas said he made “no apology’’ for the fact SA’s anti-association laws were the most stringent in the nation.

“SAPOL has made great progress in disabling gangs and reducing the damage they cause to the community,’’ he said. “This has included keeping drugs off the streets, and seizing firearms to prevent violent crimes.’’ While police activity has been intense, legislative tools such as the Serious and Organized Crime Act that came into effect in 2015 have had a significant impact.

It resulted in 10 motorcycle clubs being declared criminal organizations, with a string of measures — such as anti-association for club members — flowing from it.

Since the legislation was introduced, club membership has dropped considerably. Police believe the largest benefit has been the increase in public safety through the elimination of patched club members in public places, considerably reducing violence and confrontation between rival members.

High-profile bikers now serving lengthy prison sentences include Nomads president Honar Pishdari, who was convicted this year of participating in a criminal organisation, aggravated kidnapping and blackmail, and Corey Dettmann and Mostyn Neimann, convicted of the assault of then fellow Finks member Charlie Bonnici in 2013.

Crime Gangs operations Inspector Scott Fitzgerald said the violent confrontations and incidents that were relatively common five years ago were “no longer prevalent”.

“People with an affiliation with gangs and that lifestyle have shown a propensity for extreme violence,’’ he said.

He said policing club members was “a constant’’ despite the significant number who were now incarcerated.

“Like all organized crime, they adapt and as they change, we need to constantly adapt to meet that challenge,’’ he said.

The surging number of club members in prison has resulted in carefully managed regimes and measures to both prevent clashes and ensure their activities are not maintained while in custody. While there have been some violent incidents, targeted placement of key individuals and ensuring rival club members are not housed in proximity to one another had minimized incidents.

Once sentenced, individual club members are assessed to ascertain their security rating and then housed in an appropriate facility. Depending on the severity of the offence they have been convicted of, the prisoner may also be managed by the Serious Offender Committee and also classified as a Protective Security Prisoner — subject to an extremely tight management and observation regimen during their sentence.

While in custody activities are closely monitored to prevent clashes and prevent recruitment of young criminals.

The Tennessee Motorcycles and Music Revival is proud to announce their 2017 Band & Entertainment line up for the four-day Motorcycles & Music festival being held at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch–The “Revival” will showcase the area’s depth and devotion to music, motorcycles, military, food, art, entertainment, and southern hospitality. To ensure a great experience this year, the Lynn family will host 4,500 on-site campers on 400 acres of manicured countryside that adjoins the meandering Hurricane Creek.

KEEPING THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY OPEN JUST FOR YOU–

Smith climbs to the top of Mt. Sinai to get close enough to talk to God.

Looking up, he asks the Lord. “God, what does a million years mean to you?”

The Lord replies, “A minute.”

Smith asks, “And what does a million dollars mean to you?”

The Lord replies, “A penny.”

Smith asks, “Can I have a penny?”

The Lord replies, “In a minute.”

INDIAN MOTORCYCLE CELEBRATES BURT MUNRO’S LEGACY AND THE
50TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS LAND SPEED RECORD AT BONNEVILLE SALT FLATS–
Historic Tribute Highlighted by “Spirit of Munro” Land Speed Runs and Capped Off by Moonlit Screening of “The World’s Fastest Indian” with Director Roger Donaldson

This past weekend, Indian Motorcycle kicked off the 69th annual Bonneville Speed Week by paying tribute to its iconic heritage and the 50th anniversary of Burt Munro’s historic land speed record in grand fashion. The tribute was highlighted by commemorative land speed runs by Munro’s great nephew Lee Munro on a modified 2017 Indian Scout appropriately named “Spirit of Munro.” America’s first motorcycle company capped off the weekend with something that had never been done before – a moonlit screening of “The World’s Fastest Indian” under the desert sky for Speed Week campers.

“The World’s Fastest Indian,” staring Sir Anthony Hopkins, immortalized Burt Munro and the historic under-1000 cc world record run of his 1920 Scout Streamliner in August of 1967. Prior to its special commemorative screening on the Bonneville campground, the film’s director Roger Donaldson and Burt’s son and grand nephew,
John and Lee Munro, shared anecdotes about the making of the film, Burt Munro and the impact his achievements have had on Indian Motorcycle and motorcycling in general. The talks and screening drew throngs of Speed Week attendees who were captivated by the feature film, cheering and clapping throughout as they watched under an immaculate starry night sky.

“I’ve seen the movie countless times. But to watch it with Speed Week attendees, the Munro family and the film’s director on the very Bonneville grounds that the film was based upon, was a surreal experience,” said Reid Wilson, Indian Motorcycle Marketing Director. “It was a special way to honor Burt and the perfect way to compliment the efforts of Lee Munro and our Spirit of Munro racing team on the Salt Flats that weekend.”

Indian Motorcycle teamed up with Kiwi road racer Lee Munro, Burt Munro’s great nephew, to celebrate the 50th anniversary and recreate the historic run during the 69th annual Speed Week. A team of engineers worked nights and weekends to create and refine Lee’s “Spirit of Munro” Motorcycle, a modified and partially streamlined 2017 Scout.

The team’s goal was to match Burt’s land speed record of 184 MPH to fully pay tribute to his run. To qualify for Bonneville, Lee achieved his speed licenses through runs at El Mirage Dry Lakebed in California, while even securing a land speed record of 186.681 MPH in the MPS-G (Modified Partial Streamliner) 1350cc class during his rookie run and surpassing the team’s original goal.

Entering Bonneville, the team’s new goal was to eclipse the 200 MPH mark. However, Lee’s runs proved to be a battle against the elements. Lee attempted his first two runs on the five-mile short course, resulting in his top performance of the weekend at 191.28 MPH and an unofficial run due to timer technical error.

The following day, Lee and team made gearing changes and took the modified 2017 Indian Scout out on Bonneville’s nine-mile long course. Unfortunately, high winds and rough overall conditions hindered the motorcycle, resulting in 186.415 MPH in his lone run of the day. On Monday, the team took another attempt on a newly routed long course, yet rough surface conditions forced Munro to exit his run before completing the timed section.

“It was my greatest honor to represent Indian Motorcycle in such an incredible tribute to my great uncle on this historic 50th Anniversary,” said Lee Munro. “We may not have had the results we were after, but piloting a modified Indian Scout on the same salt as my great Uncle Burt will forever be one of my most-cherished experiences. I’m looking forward to future runs and more success with my teammates and friends at Indian Motorcycle.”

MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP WASHINGTON– After Round 9 of the 2017 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship Series in Washougal, Washington, most riders enjoyed their final weekend off from racing before hitting the final three rounds of the season.

For Ronnie Stewart, however, he made the trek from West Coast to East Coast a bit earlier in order to ride in his home state of New Jersey. Cheyenne Harmon spent the week training in his home state of Texas and the two riders converged in New Berlin, Ney York for Round 10 of the Pro Motocross series at the storied Unadilla MX.

As the longest continuously running Pro Motocross facility in the United States, Unadilla has earned the accolades of being one of the most renowned and beloved motocross facilities in the country.

With memorable sections like the “Gravity Cavity”, “Screw U” and the Unadilla Sky Shot, it’s no wonder that Unadilla MX is one of the most anticipated events in the series each year. This year, spectators were bestowed with great racing in every condition imaginable.

What started out as an incredibly well prepped and extremely fast track in practice, morphed in to the muddiest slop fest that we’ve seen in recent years. By the end of the day, riders were not only racing each other, but the treacherous conditions as well.

Round 10 of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship Series brought with it exceptional conditions in practice, along with a list of 80 riders who attempted to qualify in the 450 class. With only 36 direct transfer spots available and 40 riders in each of the qualifying sessions, a mistake-free and fast hot lap would be imperative in order to qualify for the afternoon motos at Unadilla.

At only his second race back since his injury at High Point, Cheyenne Harmon is working diligently at rebuilding his physical strength and mental focus in order to resume racing at his highest ability. His valiant effort led him to earning a qualifying position of 43rd. Teammate Ronnie Stewart was able to log a time of 2:12.444 and a qualifying position of 17th – less than six seconds off top qualifier Christian Craig.

Stewart’s 17th place in qualifying afforded him some extra rest time before the motos, whereas Harmon would have an opportunity to get some more laps on the track during the 450 Consolation Race. With 38 riders on the gate for the LCQ and only four laps of racing, a good start paired with some good luck would be your best chance at that golden ticket transfer position.

Harmon launched off the gate, but found himself in the middle of the pack at the first turn – and with only four laps to make moves, the task at hand becomes exponentially more challenging. Cheyenne fought a hard battle the entire race and his lap times were easily on par with the leaders, but ultimately finished the consolation race in 11th and would have to skip the motos this week.

Seventeen was the lucky number of the day for the #606 of Ronnie Stewart. During Moto 1, the track went from prepped and fast to the start of the absolute mud fest in a matter of moments. About 20 minutes into the Moto, it started to rain, and then pour, and then hail – rapidly changing the track conditions.

As riders ran out of tear-offs and lightning quickly entered the immediate vicinity of the racetrack, the race was Red-Flagged and scored at 25:48.545 into the race in the interest of safety for both the riders and spectators alike. But the ever-evolving conditions didn’t stop Stewart from logging a 17th place finish in the first Moto 1.

After Moto 1 began the waiting game as conditions went from bad to sunny to worse and back again. In moto, we know that almost nothing will stop a race – that exception being lightning in close proximity to the track. By the time the electrical portion of the storm had passed and the torrential rains subsided, nearly two and half hours had passed before the 250 class even got to line up for Moto 2.

This weather pattern gave way to an unusual extended period of rest for the 450 riders before their second moto, which proved to be beneficial for many, including Stewart. As the gate dropped on Moto 2, Ronnie launched into a 9th place start on a motocross track, practically turned jet-ski course. Where the sloppiest sludge mudder proved to be a force to be reckoned with for some riders, Stewart managed to remain consistent throughout the entire moto. He would finish Moto 2, also in 17th place for an 18th place finish overall – matching his season-best finish that was earned at High Point during Round 4 of the series.

It’s hard to believe, but the season is rapidly drawing to a close with only two round of racing remaining. MicroBilt PRBC Yoshimura Suzuki looks forward to putting our best effort forward in order to finish out the season strong! Join us as we head to Mechanicsville, Maryland for racing just outside of our Nation’s Capital at Budds Creek.

BIKER’S CHOICE NEWS– Biker’s Choice issues sub-distribution policy statement

The issue of unauthorized internet re-selling and the damaging effect that this can have on their and their dealers’ businesses has moved Biker’s Choice parent company Tucker Rocky to take the unprecedented step of issuing a clear and unambiguous policy statement on the subject.

The statement, issued by VP Sales & Marketing Kenan Ikels, concludes with a warning to anybody found to be abusing the terms of their account with the company.
“If we have reason to believe an authorized Tucker Rocky/Biker’s Choice dealer is engaged in the sub-distribution of the brands we represent, we will consider this a violation of our sub-distribution policy and end our relationship with the dealer in question by revoking access to our product data feeds, discontinuing shipments to the dealer and closing the dealer’s account.”

Biker’s Choice & Tucker Rocky VP Sales & Marketing Kenan Ikels: “We have made a commitment to help dealers. To deliver on this commitment, it is important for the brands we distribute to move directly through our authorized network of dealers and retailers to the end user”

To protect their network of dealers, Tucker Rocky/Biker’s Choice has adopted a sub-distribution policy that states “no dealer shall sell, transfer ownership or consign inventory of the brands and products we distribute to any person or entity the dealer knows, or may reasonably believe, has the intention of reselling to an end user through any third party marketplaces.”

Ikels explains: “We believe the powersports dealer channel is vital to the growth and expansion of this industry. Powersports dealers are the initial point of contact for the vast majority of new consumers. Protecting their ability to engage new customers and provide a positive brand experience is a priority for Tucker Rocky and Biker’s Choice.”

He went on to say that “over the past 50 years, Tucker Rocky and Biker’s Choice have developed the most profitable, relevant portfolio of brands in the powersports industry, serving the Street, V-twin, Off-Road, ATV/UTV and apparel segments. We have made a commitment to help dealers, who have a vested interest in the growth and the expansion of powersports to grow and expand their businesses.

“To deliver on this commitment, it is important for the brands we distribute to move directly through our authorized network of dealers and retailers to the end user, without additional intervening parties. Tucker Rocky and Biker’s Choice believe that this method of distribution enhances each dealer’s ability to provide a positive brand experience for their customers and to grow their sales and profitability.”

UNCLE MONKEY ON CHARLOTTESVILLE EVENTS– It has been a rough week for the US. The events that occurred in Charlottesville were horrific. Let me make something clear. The opposite of the Alt-Right/Neo-Nazi/White Supremacists are called normal human beings. The tragedy is that the United Stated literally fought a Civil war and lay claim to be winners of World War II both fought on the belief that all humans are equal.

The Civil War was won by Americans who believed that people could not be used and treated like livestock. In World War II the United States stood up to the Nazi Reich and said NO! – That whites were not some superior race, that Jews were not spawns of Satan. To try and paint the people who took a stand against the Alt-Right as anything other is a disgrace to the American history. To say that people of Charlottesville should not have responded to violence with violence is to say that the United States fully supported Germany during WWII.

The President can claim that there were many fine people who were marching with the white supremacists. What I can tell you is that my family is from Germany. The ones that stayed in Germany who believed and supported the Nazi party I can tell you unequivocally that they DO NOT consider themselves to be fine people. They, with most Germans, carry the shame of what they did, of what they believed at the time. A soul crushing burden.

They are doctors, lawyers, teachers, mechanics, farmers, church and community leaders who would spend the rest of their lives trying to repay the debt on the hatred they harbored in their hearts, a debt that carries forth to future generations, to myself, my children, to my grand children.

If you sympathize with the Alt-Right, with the White Nationalists you need to get right with the world. The world has said your beliefs are wrong, the veterans you proudly say you support say you are wrong and literally went to war and won to stop you and your beliefs.

They were not the radical Alt-Left as the President would call them. They were brothers and sons, neighbors, and co-workers, normal every day men and women who stood up against white supremacists.

Some 642,427 Americans gave their lives to stop hatred in 1865. 418,500 Americans gave their lives to stop hatred in 1945. This last week American Heather Hyer gave her life to stop your hatred. Lt. H. Jay Cullen gave his life to stop your hatred. Berke Bates gave his life to stop your hatred.

Your beliefs were wrong in 1865. Your beliefs were wrong in 1945. Your beliefs are wrong today.

INCREDIBLE ACTION AFOOT—
I mentioned the 1928 Shovelhead, and Franky’s Dyna Glide, and then this morning I spoke to Steve Massicotte of Paughco about the bagger project and our Salt Torpedo Streamlined Trike Project.

Kirk Taylor is about to paint the Bagger and we will have another report soon from Paughco on the Salt Torpedo Frame.

Our mural project is making headway and will be incredible. I can’t wait for the next segment, the girls from the ‘50s on the Catalina seaplane. I will try to bring you images weekly of this art project.

We have tons of wild content headed your way including Chris Callen’s Twisted Tea bike, another FXR, travel stories, Trike Reviews and techs.

I need to work on the feature about Colors Magazine from the early ‘70s, with Rogue, the editor of Bikernet Baggers, and I’m working hard on our Sturgis run story, the fixes, fun and breakdowns..

In the meantime ride free forever.
