FREEDOM LOVING SUNDAY POST FOR Sunday January 26, 2014

Hey,

I’ll make this quick. I woke up this morning and grabbed my first cup of coffee. I sat in bed reading the January 31 issue of The Week Magazine. Several reports jumped out at me. The editorial covered energy consumption and global warming. It basically said we were supposed to reduce energy consumption by 40 percent, but it’s actually growing everywhere. The cover story is about Obama trying to rein in NSA surveillance.

So what’s the bottom line? The EPA and CARB can torture citizens for decades, push them around, put them out of business, and be unsuccessful, and the cost to taxpayers, incredible. The government can’t control the agencies it creates. The TSA can push around citizens for years and we pay them, for what? Is it all about creating jobs? I say we take them out of airports and train them to landscape every freeway onramp and offramp. At least they would be doing something beneficial for the country, and getting some exercise.

I know, I’m a nut, but it’s scary. Why can’t we get a grant to study freedom in this country. I believe we could change the direction of the government and make life safer, more free, more educated, and more responsible.

The concept is simple and applies to helmet laws, gun laws, marijuana laws, and the list goes on. Imagine all the money, torture, and hardship that would be saved if we had never passed laws against marijuana. We are living through the McCarthy era over and over.

Let’s hit the news, then protect the Dharma, goddammit!

SUNDAY QUOTE OF SUNDAY GODDAMMIT!

When the people fear the government there is tyranny. When the government fears the people there is liberty.” Thomas Jefferson

No man is entitled to the blessings of freedom unless he be vigilant in its preservation.” General Douglas MacArthur

Socially Unacceptable Humor FROM THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY
• I was in bed with a blind girl last night and she said that I had the biggest penis she had ever laid her hands on. I said, “You’re pulling my leg.”

• I saw a poor old lady fall over today on the ice. At least I presume she was poor. She only had $1.20 in her purse.

• My girlfriend thinks that I’m a stalker. Well, she’s not exactly my girlfriend yet.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY ENGLISH DEPARTMENT COMES UP WITH A NEW WORD FOR BANDIT’S CANTINA–boîte bwaht; Fr. bwat, noun:

a nightclub; cabaret.

Three more people entered the boîte and one of them was Clarisse. She saw Daniel, nodded without smiling and looked for a place to sit.

— Hugh MacLennan, Return of the Sphinx, 1967

You’re here now, at this groovy new boîte, for instance.

— Kim Moritsugu, The Restoration of Emily, 2006

Boîte entered English in the early 1900s from the French word of the same spelling, which literally means “box” but is also used to refer to a nightclub, from the phrase boîte de nuit which means “box of the night.”

I think the vast differences in compensation between victims of  the September 11 casualty and those who die serving our country in Uniform are profound. No one is really talking about it either, because you just don’t criticize anything having to do with September 11. Well, I can’t let the numbers pass by because it says something really disturbing about the entitlement mentality of this country.

If you lost a family member in the September 11 attack, you’re going to get an average of $1,185,000. The range is a minimum guarantee of $250,000, all the way up to $4.7 million..

If you are a surviving family member of an American soldier killed in action, the first check you get is a $6,000 direct death benefit, half of which is taxable.

CALIFA’S MOST AMBITIOUS HANDGUN BAN NOW UNDERWAY
In 1976, the Brady Campaign, then known as the National Council to Control Handguns, said that the first part of its three-part plan to get handguns and handgun ammunition made “totally illegal” was to “slow down the increasing number of handguns being produced and sold in this country.” This month, anti-gunners finally got that wish in California.

America’s two largest handgun manufacturers–Smith & Wesson and Sturm, Ruger–have announced that they will stop selling new semi-automatic handguns in California, rather than comply with the state’s “microstamping” law. The law applies not only to entirely new models of handguns, but also to any current-production handgun approved by the state’s Roster Board, if such handgun is modified with any new feature or characteristic, however minor or superficial.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the law was “intended to help police investigators link shell casings found at crime scenes to a specific gun.” That’s pure spin, however. In reality, the law, signed in 2007 by then-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, is intended to terminate semi-automatic handgun sales and, over time, semi-automatic handgun ownership in the state. “Microstamping” will solve few, if any crimes and it is only a matter of time before a proposal to expand the law to include other firearms will follow.

Meanwhile, the National Shooting Sports Foundation has announced that it and the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute have filed suit against the law in Fresno Superior Court “seeking both declaratory and injunctive relief against this back-door attempt to prevent the sale of new semiautomatic handguns to law-abiding citizens in California.

Anti-gun activists often refer to California as the test bed for gun control laws they would like to have imposed throughout the country. Thus, it goes without saying that gun owners outside California should anticipate “microstamping” efforts in their states, and do what it takes to elect pro-Second Amendment governors and state legislators to deny the anti-gunners additional victories.

However, making sure that what has happened in California doesn’t happen elsewhere is not the only reason to step up our election year efforts. California accounts for 12 percent of the nation’s population and approximately eight percent of its handgun owners. We owe it to our fellow countrymen–our Second Amendment brothers and sisters–to elect a pro-Second Amendment president and senators who will approve that president’s nominations to the federal courts, where California’s “microstamping” law might one day be challenged. What is true in football is also true in the effort to keep America’s most popular type of handguns legal and affordable: the best defense is a good offense.

NEW JERSEY Cereal criminal sells snap, crackle, potLAKEHURST — Police say a New Jersey man mixed Rice Krispies and oregano and sold it as marijuana to a 17-year old for $210.

–Lakehurst Police Sgt.

Ron Heinzman said the teen told her mother she had taken the money to pay for half an ounce of marijuana. The juvenile and her mother went back to Erving’s house — and that’s when officers Jason Guide, Joseph DePasquale, Heinzman and Police Chief Eric Higgins were dispatched to Erving’s residence on Oak Street for a disturbance call, Heinzman said.

The teenager also admitted to police that she went to Erving’s house to obtain a half ounce of marijuana, gave Erving $210 in cash and received the bag, Heinzman said.

BIG BIKE EUROPE & AMD World Champs in alternate annual deal with INTERMOT
Following the well-received debut of the Big Bike Europe (BBE) Expo at Essen, in May 2013, organizer AMD Magazine has been invited to stage the AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building at the internationally respected INTERMOT Expo (October 1-5 2014, Cologne, Germany).

The AMD World Championship will rotate between INTERMOT and Big Bike Europe as alternate-annual expos at the Cologne Expo center – the next BBE therefore being in October 2015, and biennial thereafter.

Industry reaction to Big Bike Europe was almost universally positive in terms of both concept and organization. However, date issues were a primary factor in a promising but modest first year attendance. Rather than taking advantage of a four week earlier spring date option, the decision to co-join the AMD World Championship with INTERMOT and make BBE a biennial autumn/fall expo achieves three objectives.

It recognizes a fall/autumn timing preference that was voiced by many exhibitors. It capitalizes upon the attendance and frequency of the world’s premier international motorcycle industry event. It reduces the expo-budget burden on that (large) part of the international vendor community in Europe that already exhibits at INTERMOT.
INTERMOT routinely attracts between 200,000 and 250,000 trade and consumer visitors, from some 117 countries. As such it is by far the best attended international motorcycle exhibition of its kind in the world.

Prior to the initial Big Bike Europe announcement in 2011, there had already been dialog about whether to co-join the AMD World Championship with one of the largest of the established shows,” explains organizer Robin Bradley.

However, the choice of spring or autumn/fall dating was always a 50/50 coin-toss, and both still have valid arguments in their favor. It is only by trying each option out that we can establish the best possible long-term formula for the project.”

“The mission has always been to provide the custom motorcycle market with access to the largest possible audience of motivated and relevant customers. This has always been our primary driving force, and has informed all our venue and strategic decisions, ever since 2004.”

“INTERMOT has the attendance; it has the facility; it has the large-displacement focus and, above all, it has the international status that is absolutely in the crosshairs of what we have always been trying to achieve.”

“We felt we needed ‘Proof of Concept’ for BBE before we were fully in a position to understand the best way forward for the Championship competitor and BBE exhibitor communities. We needed to create a forum that champions motorcycle modification and parts and accessory sales of all kinds. We have achieved a good start, and this formula is a solution that guarantees a truly robust long-term foundation on which to be able to do so.”

“Although the radio-silence concerning 2014 plans has been protracted and frustrating, it has been a necessary step sideways in order to be able to make what by any measure is a giant leap forward. At all stages this project has been about making good decisions rather than quick decisions. An agreement of this magnitude has warranted careful consideration and precise attention to those devilish details.”

Speaking on behalf of Koeln Messe, INTERMOT Project Manager Ingo Riedeberger says that “we are delighted to have made a multi-year agreement to host the AMD World Championship.”

With AMD’s help, through its custom show affiliation program, we have made progress in developing the custom content of INTERMOT in line with our ambition to make sure that Europe’s leading international motorcycle industry and enthusiast expo can speak effectively to all sectors of the international powered two-wheel industry.”

This latest stage in our relationship with AMD marks an exciting development. One that will bring considerable benefit to INTERMOT’s visitors, its exhibitor profile, and to the custom industry itself.

Full details of the Championship classes and schedule, and of exhibitor rates and opportunities at the AMD World Championship at INTERMOT in October will be released in February.

Details about Big Bike Europe and AMD World Championship staging at the Cologne Expo Centre in October 2015 and beyond will be released later this year.

Organizer Robin Bradley concluded by saying: “I think we over-achieved in organizational and conceptual terms in 2013, leaving us with a need to build a convincing attendance in a shorter period of time than we had anticipated.”

By being able to help INTERMOT consolidate the efforts it has already made to offer a convincing custom industry experience for their visitors, and by allowing the parts and performance aftermarket to use BBE as a biennial ‘fill-in’ for the years when INTERMOT is not staged, meets the needs of the custom community and international parts, accessory and performance industry in spades!

CANTINA BAD JOKE LIBRARY OPEN–On their 50th anniversary, a wife found the negligee she wore on her wedding night and put it on. She went to her husband, a retired Boomer, and asked, “Honey, do you remember this?”

He looked up from his newspaper and said; “Yes dear, I do. You wore that same negligee the night we were married”

She said, “Yes, that’s right. Do you remember what you said to me that night?”

He nodded and said “Yes dear, I said, ‘Oh baby, I’m going to suck the life out of those boobs and screw your brains out’.”

She giggled and said; “That’s exactly what you said. So now it’s fifty years later, and I’m in the same negligee. What do you have to say tonight?”

He looked her up and down and said, “Mission Accomplished”

CANNABIS GETS A SUPER-BOWL TO HIGHLIGHT MIRIJUANA LAW REFORMS
Bud Bowl. Weed Bowl. Fill a Bowl. Stoner Bowl. Super Stupor Bowl. Whatever you call it, the teams from Denver and Seattle are in it to win it! And so are cannabis consumers! The annual Super Bowl is always a great time for a few friendly wagers, and cannabis consumers are no exception. Happy to uphold this proud tradition, Colorado NORML and Washington NORML have made a little side bet on this historic game:

If the Denver Broncos win, WA NORML has agreed to dress in Bronco colors of blue and orange and sing Karaoke-style Colorado’s (second) official state song “Rocky Mountain High” by John Denver. If the Seattle Seahawks win, CO NORML will do the same, but in Seahawk blue and green and singing “Purple Haze” by Jimi Hendrix, a native son of Seattle.

A video of the performance must be posted on the respective state chapter’s web site, Facebook page and on YouTube for a minimum of one week, with an acknowledgment that the winning team’s state is simply awesome.

The unfortunate irony is that, despite the legalization of recreational marijuana in Washington and Colorado, the NFL continues to ban its use among players, although it is not a performance enhancing drug. Both teams have each lost key players this season to marijuana-related suspensions.

The Denver Broncos Von Miller, 2011 NFL defensive rookie of the year, Seattle Seahawks cornerback Walter Thurmond, and Seahawks cornerback Brandon Browner have all received suspensions for failing drug tests.

The NFL would be wise to be more open to marijuana use among players. Its value as a safer treatment than opiates for pain resulting from the brutality of the game, must be acknowledged. With concerns over repeat concussions and the resulting traumatic brain injury to players like Junior Seau, the league should be particularly interested in marijuana’s potential to prevent long-term damage associated with brain injuries. Some NFL players might use cannabis for its medicinal benefits, but others may choose it to unwind as an alternative to alcohol, just as others might drink a beer or a martini.

However, cannabis use doesn’t have the same risks associated with mixing prescription drugs, particularly painkillers, and alcohol.

So while we celebrate this historic Super Doobie Bowl, cheering on our respective teams, and laughing about the irony of it all, let’s not forget those players on and off the field whose employers will not allow them to consume a legal substance that has never had an associated death in all of recorded history.

Let the schwag talking begin!

BIKERNET PHILOSOPHER HELPS OUT–The Most Important Thing to Believe In Is Yourself.

To succeed we must believe we can!

Why is it that many of us live a limited life when we have unlimited potential. That we have the belief that we can’t succeed in anything we try. Where did we learn about the false ideas about fear, doubt, failure, unworthiness and limitations? As I grow it becomes clear to me that this is not My Truth. Each day I let go of the old false beliefs and thoughts.

Today Know: Today is brand new and I am going to Live It to the fullest. Today is an opportunity to express my unlimited potential; if it is going to be It is up to me. Today I am going to have great growth.
