Coolbeth Places Fifth On Factory Harley At Indy Mile

Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle® Factory Team rider Kenny Coolbeth finished fifth in the AMA Pro Harley-Davidson Insurance Grand National Championship on the Lucas Oil Indy Mile at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. The race was won by South East Harley-Davidson rider Sammy Halbert, riding a Harley-Davidson®  XR750 motorcycle. The Indy Mile race marked a return to action for Coolbeth, who was injured on June 30 in a race at Lima, Ohio. Coolbeth finished third in his heat race to qualify for the main. Coolbeth raced with the lead pack in the second half of the race before slipping back in the final laps. “I guess I got the rust off tonight, and this was a good result for us,” said Coolbeth. “We were right up there at the end. I’ve been working to maintain my fitness while I recovered from the broken leg, but tonight was actually the first time I’ve been on a motorcycle sinceLima. The track was forgiving so this was a good way to get back into the action, but I think I’m ready to go.” Zanotti Racing/Schaeffer`s Harley-Davison rider Jake Johnson, Crosley Radio Kawasaki rider Bryan Smith and Halbert led the first segment of the 25-lap main, with less than 0.200 seconds separating the trio. The race was stopped on lap 11 when Johnson crashed and retired for the night. On the restart a pack of six riders including Halbert, Rogers Racing/Blue Springs Harley-Davidson rider Jared Mees, Werner-Springsteen Racing Kawasaki rider Brandon Robinson, Dodge Brothers Racing rider Brad Baker, Foremost Insurance Ducati rider Henry Wiles and Coolbeth ran together, with Coolbeth running as high as fifth and within 0.245 seconds of the leader. Smith’s motorcycle expired on the restart and he was out. Robinson led laps 14 to 22 before giving way to Halbert, who held on to win by just 0.026 seconds […]

Wyman and O’Hara Split AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Races at Indianapolis

Kyle Wyman (KLR Group/Spyke’s H-D) and Bartels’ H-D/Scrubblade rider Tyler O’Hara each posted wins in the doubleheader round of the AMA Pro Racing Vance & Hines XR1200 series last weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to open the five-race XR Showdown championship chase and set up a thrilling three-race climax to the 2012 season. From the beginning of the weekend it appeared that MOB Racing’s P.J. Jacobson, a 2010 XR1200 series race winner who was making his first appearance of the 2012 season in the class, would be the spoiler and the man to beat at Indy after posting a dominant qualifying time on Friday nearly 1.5 seconds quicker than the next fastest challenger. And midway through Saturday’s Race 1, that was the story that was developing, after Jacobsen fought back against an early charge by O’Hara, who led the first two laps of the race, and had cleared the field by a sizable margin. Jacobsen eventually built a 4-second lead by lap five and appeared to be cruising to victory. But disaster struck the New York native, who races fulltime in the British Superbike series, when fluids leaking from his machine caused him to crash on lap six. After he went down, chaos broke out on the track, as several following riders subsequently crashed, causing a red flag stoppage of the race. With track conditions too poor to restart the race, AMA Pro officials reverted to the order of the previous lap and provisionally awarded the victory to Jacobsen. However, after a post-race investigation revealed his motorcycle had been the cause of the fluid on the track, Jacobsen was relegated to last place in the running order, which elevated Wyman to the win, his fourth of the season. Benjamin Carlson (Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson) and XP Motorsports/Rossiter’s Harley-Davidson’s Michael Corbino rounded out

The win is also the ninth in a row in 2012 for the Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle®/Vance & Hines team, which remains undefeated for the season. “I had a great Harley-Davidson® V-Rod®  to race all weekend, really strong off the line which is important for us,” said Krawiec. “It may not have been the fastest bike out there but it was very consistent and ran straight down the track. Consistency and steady racing have been winning for us all season.” Krawiec qualified fourth at Brainerd with an Elapsed Time of 6.909 seconds. Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle®/Vance & Hines rider Andrew Hines qualified the team’s other V-Rod second at 6.887 seconds. AMA Roadrace Grand Championships head to Daytona International Speedway Oct. 18-21

AMA amateur roadracers will attack the high banks this fall when the AMA Roadrace Grand Championships head to Daytona International Speedway on Oct. 18-21 to battle for AMA national No. 1 plates.  "We're excited to bring AMA amateur national championship competition to Daytona International Speedway," said AMA Track Racing Manager Ken Saillant. "This will be a unique opportunity for the country's fastest amateur roadracers compete for AMA national titles in several skill-, age- and displacement-based classes."  The AMA has partnered with the American Sportbike Racing Association and Championship Cup Series to help run the AMA Roadrace Grand Championships. CCS President Kevin Elliott said the 2012 event, which welcomes racers from all clubs and organization and is open to all licensed roadracing AMA members, will contribute to the AMA Roadrace Grand Championships' longstanding reputation for top-notch competition.  "The AMA Roadrace Grand Championships have been a place for the sportsman road racer to show their talent and abilities to the rest of the United States since 1997, and the American Sportbike Racing Association and Championship Cup Series are happy to have a part in the operation and organization of this prestigious championship once again," Elliott said.  Elliott said that Daytona International Speedway is a perfect location for the event.  "After being run at other great facilities in the past like Mid-Ohio, New Hampshire Motor Speedway and Putnam Park, the AMA Roadrace Grand Championships-joining ASRA/CCS at Daytona International Speedway-just feels right," he said. "It is the world's center of racing and we are excited to be a part of this new chapter in the AMA Roadrace Grand Championships at this storied facility."  Not only do riders get ample track time and an opportunity to race against the country's fastest amateur racers, but the best compete for the AMA Roadracing Horizon Award, which is
