HD750 VERSUS THE AGING SPORTSTER–

We all by now have heard about the new 500cc and 750cc water-cooled Harley-Davidsons, it seems everyone has an opinion from it is not a true Harley because it is water-cooled, to it is not American made. Well these are all arguments we have heard before, from the aluminum-cylinder Evolution Engine to the V-Rod we all screamed the sky is falling, that the Motor company was breaking from tradition. I am sure that the same thing was screamed when Harley came out with the V-twin engine in 1909. Now we are heading into 2014 with a new platform coming out with smaller engines. They do away with the signature 90 degree V-Twin in favor of the V-Rods 60 degree overhead cam motor that is cooled not by air but by water. Lets put all of that to the side and look at some potential facts. Lets compare the New 750cc to the 1200cc Sportster: 1.) Watercooled vs air-cooled both have advantages but the future of air-cooled bikes is limited as the EPA emission crap is causing heat problems on bigger Engines 2.) The Evolution Sportster motor is getting a little long in the tooth other than the rubber mounting (2004) we have not seen any real changes to the platform since 1986. Stock the HP of the 1200cc sportster is 68 HP on a good day and most that I have seen on a Dyno are averaging around 60. Damn anemic in today’s motorcycle market. We don’t have HP figures for the new 500 or 750 yet but I was able to dig up some numbers for the 650cc ATK which is a very similar motor to the 750cc H-D. The ATK is putting 79 HP to the ground and I am sure the new 750 H-D will put

Could It Be The End Of The Sportster Thursday News? For November 7, 2013

The End Of the World As We Know It News? Hey, This is going to be a wild one. The new Revolution entry level, supposedly, motorcycle was released from H-D (cost between $7,000 and $9,000). The components are made in India and it may be assembled in Kansas at the V-Rod factory. Still some staffers are excited about the new model. After much discussion with members of the industry the conclusion is not entry level, but the replacement for the Sportster, since this model will be much cheaper to produce and it’s not really entry level priced. The Evo Sporty has been around since 1984-5 and is too long in the tooth. We just picked up two ATK bikes, mostly made in Korea, by the company building Suzukis for years, and assembled in Salt Lake. The 250 runs just over three grand, and the 650, which is nearly as fast as a V-Rod costs around $6000. Incredible. There are big bore kits available for both. Horne Wins NHRA Harley-Davidson Top Fuel Harley Title

Sixth Season Victory at Las Vegas Caps 2013 Top Fuel Championship Horne-Romine Racing’s Doug Horne capped his NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series Top Fuel Harley Championship season with a win over Tommy Grimes at the The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway November 3, winning a coveted NHRA Wally championship trophy and a $7,500 bonus from Harley-Davidson Motor Company. After mathematically clinching the 2013 Top Fuel Harley championship in October at Bristol Motor Speedway, Horne qualified second at Las Vegas behind Grimes. He ran down Mike Scott in Round 1 with a 6.295-second/226.32 mph pass, and then bested Jay Turner in Round 2 with 6.317 at 210.90 mph before lining up against Grimes in the final. Grimes got the holeshot with a 0.011-second reaction time to Horne’s 0.032 light, but Horne had the horsepower to run him down at the top end, posting a 6.403/225.82 mph run to Grimes’s 6.536. The win was Horne’s sixth of the season in the NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series. Grimes also finished as runner-up in the championship. “I’m very fortunate that my dad, Steve Horne, has surrounded me with great, knowledgeable people throughout my racing career. Our Top Fuel Harley is a top notch motorcycle that runs superbly everywhere we take it, all because of the preparation and dedication of our crew chief Mike Romine. We work well together, we have fun together, and most of all, we have the drive to win together,” Horne said. “I’m thankful that NHRA partnered with Harley-Davidson to give all of us Harley racers the opportunity to race at amazing venues and to show how great the sport of Harley drag racing really is. It was a great year from start to finish. I can’t wait to do it all over again next year.”

Harley's News Street Bikes Will Be Manufactured In Kansas City and India

Harley-Davidson’s new Street 750 and Street 500 motorcycles will be produced in Kansas City and India. The new street bikes are the first motorcycles that Harley-Davidson has designed from scratch in 13 years. The company’s last newly designed motorcycle was the V-Rod, which is produced in Kansas City. The plant also produces the Dyna and Sportster models. Fitted with liquid-cooled Revolution X power trains, the motorcycles are agile and designed for the stop-and-go traffic of urban environments. The power train is placed on a narrow chassis, with a super low seat height, new suspension and broad handlebar sweep to gain more maneuverability. The motorcycles will be sold around the globe. The U.S. models will be produced in Kansas City. For the first time ever, the international models will be completely constructed in Bawal, India, at a plant Harley-Davidson opened in 2011.

New Harleys Create Quite A Buzz

The new Harley-Davidson Street 750 and Street 500 created a huge buzz all over the motorcycle community, but here are images of a different kind of buzz. This swarm of bees was seen clustering onto a parked motorcycle in a dealership yesterday in Palmerston North, New Zealand. The spectacular swarm had motorists bees a wide berth. The bees settled on the bike, a Hyosung, about 12.30pm. Later, the dealership’s staff called a beekeeper in to remove them. Bees were generally docile when they were without a hive to defend, something the beekeeper backed up by approaching the bees without protective gear and brushing them into a box.
