George Harris' The Hit Is A Mean Machine

L.A.’s George Harris is the hard- driving force behind a multi-tasking company called Mean Machines Custom Bike Designs/Tap’d Out Studio. He’s no stranger to one-off bikes that often prompt the question….ah, why???  Basically it’s like asking a mountain climber why he wants to scale Mt. Everest, the answer being “because it’s there.”  But in George’s case, relative to his unique bikes, his answer is “because it wasn’t there before.” Read more

Bikernet Video Pick — Vintage Motorcycle Or eBike In Disguise?

Don’t let the old-school aesthetics fool you–this beautiful motorcycle is thoroughly modern and headed straight for the Isle of Man TT race. The Saroléa SP7 marks the return of a storied Belgian marque after half a century, and it’s easily the prettiest electric motorcycle we’ve seen since Electra Racing brought an electrified Norton Featherbed to the TTXGP. Despite the classic café racer styling, Saroléa has built a leading-edge machine with a carbon fiber frame and swingarm. The motor is good for 130 kilowatts–Saroléa says that translates to 180 horsepower, but our math puts it closer to 173. Whatever the figure, it’s definitely in literbike territory. Saroléa claims the bike will hit 60 mph from a standstill in 2.8 seconds; top speed is limited to 155 mph. The bike uses an axial flux motor. Most electric motors direct the flux, or the flow of the electric field, outward through air between the moving rotor and stationary stator. The SP7’s axial flux motor sends the electric field on a parallel path, along the motor’s axle, which means the bike can use lighter and thinner “pancake rotors.” These rotors are ideal for producing power at constantly varying speeds, something vital for going fast through turns, dips, and rises along a race course. Harley-Davidson World Ride, June 22-23

Take a break from the rat race on June 22-23 to join the thousands of Harley riders around the world who are shedding the shackles of responsibility and hitting the open road during the Harley-Davidson World Ride. “For these two days riders will unite to blow off the daily grind and celebrate that being free is a lot more fun,” said Nigel Villiers, Harley-Davidson Director of Integrated Consumer Experience. “Riding is more appreciated when you can steal the time from something you’d rather not be doing, so let the meetings and honey-dos wait until Tuesday and just ride.” Launched in 2008 by the Harley Owners Group® as Million Mile Monday®, the annual riding event was expanded into the two-day Harley-Davidson World Ride in 2012 to give more riders worldwide an opportunity to participate. In 2012, participants logged 7.7 million miles, but last year as riders celebrated the 110th Anniversary of Harley-Davidson Motor Company and the 30th Anniversary of H.O.G., riders from 66 countries blitzed that record by more than 25 percent, tallying an official total of more than 10 million miles. Riders logged their miles solo, in groups large and small, and through a variety of dealer-led events around the world, united by their shared passion for motorcycling. Whether it’s across town, cross-country, or anything in between, every mile counts and can be recorded by logging into Harley-Davidson’s online mileage accumulator at h-d.com/worldride, where a rolling odometer will record the collective distance traveled by all participants in the World Ride. New for 2014, ride participants can also log their post-ride mileage directly onto the World Ride web site from mobile devices and share their riding stories and photographs on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #HDworldride. Participants can also download a certificate of participation after logging
