Weekend Round-Up for May 13, 2019

This is a strange one. It’s May and supposed to be a very calm and successful month according to the stars and Chinese tea leaves.

I told you about my effort to buy a GoldWing for my New Zealand brother. The first deal fell apart. The guy wouldn’t come and get the money. He didn’t have time.

We got a line on a closer one. It’s a 50th Anniversary model and looks good. I went to check it out and asked the owner if he could ride it to the Bikernet Headquarters, if the deal was a go. He said yes, then when the deal was confirmed, he backed out. Usually, I could dig it, but I currently don’t have a trailer, or a vehicle set up for hauling bikes. That deal is still pending. The money is in hand and Zack said he will ride it when he gets back from Europe. I just want it done, makes me edgy.

We are currently working on the fiberglass mold for the Salt Torpedo. I thought we were going to add fiberglass to our top, but now Lupe is going to make a mold out of the top and fiberglass over it. I don’t know why, but I’m edgy.

Then I tried to send a vest to our esteemed correspondent in India, Udey. It’s been held up in customs for over 25 days. They tried to say the amount on the Air Bill was wrong, it wasn’t. They tried to say I spelled his name wrong, we didn’t. They want to fine me and still not promise to deliver the package.

I’m edgy about this. I ran across this piece of equipment at Bobby’s lot and brought it home, cleaned it and mounted it here for now. Let me know what the hell it is? It’s not a bomb, but I was still edgy.

I went for a bicycle ride on Saturday as part of my workout. On the way back I spotted these bicycles in front of Kenny’s building. It said Free on the seat, so I inquired. I needed more bicycles like I needed another hole in my head, but I can’t resist wheels. He had them out back in perfectly good shape, but the elements were getting to them, so he decided to dump them and even added another one, for a total of three.

I took them to the local bike shop and negotiated a clean and replace the tubes deal. She did a shitty job, so I worked on the Torpedo, the bikes, the garage door, and the machine tool all weekend. Then I had to clean the shop and prepared for this week.

I’ll wrap this up in a minute, but first check out the law of the week:

Bill would prohibit grass clippings on roads to prevent motorcycle crashes

By: Myles Snyder

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A Pennsylvania state senator plans to introduce legislation that would prohibit grass clippings on roadways, calling it one of the most dangerous and preventable hazards for motorcyclists.

Sen. Camera Bartolotta said her bill would treat offenses the same as household waste and other rubbish deposited on roads. Fines would range from $50 to $300 for a first offense and $300 to $1,000 for a subsequent offense.

Offenders would also be required to have the clippings removed from the road.

Bartolotta said grass clippings can cause roadway surfaces to become extremely slippery. She said a number of motorcycle accidents and deaths have been attributed to grass clippings.

She said grass on roadways can also clog storm drains and contribute to run-off pollution into streams.

SENIOR EDITOR NOTES:
Yes, I personally do feel it is extreme and there is serious debate going about this.
It appears some of the rights groups and riders are pushing it and it is getting a lot of favorable response.

Others, must more older riders are saying slow down, learn how to ride etc.
He fact is in parts of the country the grass can get slick.
Problem is many city and state lawn crews do a lot of this.
Also, if in front of a homeowners house no matter who did it the cop can come to the door and we all realize that could lead to other issues.
I suspect I will be hearing more about this and when I did, I will pass it along.

I don’t like laws. I like education and folks who take care of business. Laws are trouble. Just educate folks on the hazards of lawn clippings.

On top of my list above, I’m beginning to look around at vans for Bonneville and hauling bikes. I prefer to stick with American made, but the Ford Transit Vans don’t rock my boat. Although, I do have a dealer connection and I like the mid height van. I would like to check them out tomorrow.

My favorite looking van is the Nissan. They don’t make a mid-size roof line. The high-top is cool and roomy, but I don’t know if I’m ready for a tall vehicle like that? Makes me edgy going to dealerships. Okay, so you can see where I’m at and I don’t like it. Too many edges.

Bottom line, I need to change my outlook, prospective, viewpoint, stance or attitude. Sometimes I need to remind myself that I live in Motorcycle Nirvana and everything is super-cool. I need to relax and go for a ride. Maybe I need a day off…

My Granddaughter just arrived and snatched one of the bikes and Jeremiah’s girl Honor will take another. Terrific, I’m down to one. What the fuck was I thinking? I’m feeling less edgy already.

Hang on. It’s going to be an exciting week.
