Hey,
I was once on the board of directors of some group homes for kids who were abandoned. Or their folks were drug addicts, or in jail. As a biker I could relate, for some strange reason. In our efforts to be free too many kids got left behind.
I’ll never forget meeting with these kids and the look in their eyes, even the tough kids. You could tell they didn’t feel whole without folks, as if they had lost an arm. So I’ve always promoted any efforts to help kids.
According to The Week Magazine, 300,000 kids a year enter the foster care program. These kids are traumatized. My Stuff Bags Foundation (mystuffbags.org) was founded in 1998 to give these kids hope, by meeting their immediate childhood needs. To date, the organization has provided more than 450,000 duffel bags full of new clothing, age-appropriate toys and books, security blankets, and other comfort items to over 1,400 child-care agencies nationwide. Most agencies can only provide food and shelter.
Let’s hit the news.

It is fishing village about two hours from Saigon
actually 2.5 hrs on the bus for $5 = 100,000 vnd
Today is Wednesday and I have been here two days and three nights.
A friend , Keven, aka known as Krazie Kalvin has lived here for three years. He has been very good showing me around during the day sightseeing.
He is from Texas but knows the Fryed brothers group and we met up in Thailand.
Then at night the best of the fun zone. Places I would not have found without him.
Interesting to find out this place was occupied by the French for 100 years. Hopefully I can attach some photos of the town – French fort – etc.
He also found me a well-located hotel with an ocean view. Walking distance home from the fun zone late at night (early morning).
Even though this is a pretty large town they see surprisingly few of us round eyes whiteys.
As a result are curiously friendly but unfortunately not very conversant in English. Even though it is only 2.5 hrs from the big city it is about two generations away.
On another front I missed the military occupation of Bkk by a few days. I will however be back on June 2 for a few days on the way back to LAX.
Life goes on as usual, there just a few extra tanks and Army personnel around.
I will be here for a few more days until Saturday when I move on to Phnom Penh by air.
From there I will to to a beach town called Siannookville for the bike show.

In addition to the distinctive collection of unique and iconic motorcycles, Vroom: The Art of the Motorcycle will also feature an exciting collection of vibrantly painted motorcycle helmets by the internationally renowned Troy Lee Designs® (TLD), which is recognized as the world’s premier custom helmet paint shop; intricately painted gas tanks and motorcycle fenders by Pete “Hot Dog” Finlan, of Discovery Channel’s former Monster Garage fame; and elaborately painted motorcycle gas tanks by sought-after artist Sara Ray.
Vroom: The Art of the Motorcycle will also present a selection of paintings by such celebrated artists as painter Tom Fritz, the six-time recipient of the prestigious Peter Helck Award; visual futurist and conceptual artist Syd Mead; internationally renowned artist William Stout; painter, illustrator and former Warner Bros. animator Keith Weesner; artist and hotrod graphics master Von Franco, a former apprentice of the late celebrated cartoonist, pinstriper and custom car designer and builder “Big Daddy” Ed Roth; a motorcycle-themed bronze sculpture by internationally renowned sculptor Jeff Decker; and artists Alan Fitzgerald, Troy Lee and Sara Ray. The exhibition will also feature paintings by legendary illustrator and movie poster artist Drew Struzan, whose work was recently presented at the Museum in the exhibition Drew & Bob: The Masters of Movie Art.
“This exhibition will take audiences on a journey through time—spanning more than a century and depicting some of the most extraordinary motorcycles, and motorcycle art, that have carried racers and motorcycle aficionados up and down the West Coast and across the United States,” said Museum Director and exhibition co-curator Joan P. Adan. “There is something for everyone: incredible artistry, stunning design, impressive mechanics, and decades of exciting motorcycle memories and racing stories.”
Vroom: The Art of the Motorcycle will be accompanied by a full-color catalog.
BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY OPEN ON SUNDAYS, DEDICATED WIFE– Four guys and a woman are stuck in an elevator.

“Young, Urban, Professional, Peaceful, Intelligent, Ecologist.”
The second guy says, ‘I’m a D.I.N.K.Y, you know…

BIKERNET INTERNATIONAL EDITOR REACHES OUT FROM VIETNAM–Been here for a day getting in yesterday early PM stay until Thursday and then to the bike show in Siahnookville.
My hotel is on the river and in the middle of the fun zone.
Weather has been hot and humid.
Today was a break with cloudy coolness and breezes.
Walked around several of the scenic tourist spots today.
About 2-3 hrs – pictures later as it’s already 9 pm.
TTCSF is doing well here also along with nail puzzles..
Last night in PP was OK even though I cut it short. Some TTCSF
Had to get up at 3:30 am to leave by 5 am on the road. Got to the hotel around 10:30. That include a food stop and a couple of gas stops. Not a hard ride but still had to keep busy watching the road.
The guys arranged a 2000 something twin cam Dyna for me to ride – good running bike.
Traffic sucked in PP and the dark getting out of town. Not that much of it – but lots to watch out for with poor visibility and erratic driving habits of mostly unlicensed drivers (riders).
Things got better as it got lighter and the somewhat open roads
There are still water buffalo wandering roadside – slow motos, farm implements, dogs, village outcroppings, occasionally speeds up to 80 briefly – mostly in the 60 range as an average. The best news is that they drive on the same side of the road as we do – much easier than dealing with the vagaries of left lane driving.
Some very nice roads further out – long sweeping turns decent pavement – much nicer riding.
Fortunately the sun was partly cloudy so it was not too hot riding
We had a Sportster 48 in the group that had us stop for gas more often – Actually I could have had that ride but chose not to, even though it is brand new. I did a demo article on one for a couple of weeks – better in town as it is not a touring bike
The hotel for tonight is actually a gambling casino on the border of Thailand and Cambodia – very big and opulent – sorry not to have photos – group dinner – and I will try to get to the local fun zone tonite. I have a driver and Lexus SUV at hand to take me around.
So it is 9pm and time to move on. Good to have this fee time today to get this update out. This weekend may prove to be too busy.

BRAND New Bikernet Reader Comment!– S.O.A. apparently means Sneakers Only, Asshole!?

I wouldn’t ride in tenny runners myself, but I’m not going to get wrapped around the axle because of it. Hell, I’ve ridden with 1%ers from Fairbanks to Anchorage and back when they were wearing tennis shoes, knee high shorts and colors.
I certainly wasn’t going to question their decision to do so. Their scooters, their choice and their acceptance of potential consequences, if it goes sideways on ’em. It’s called freedom of choice….

NEW FROM ZIPPER’S–Zipper’s High Compression 110-inch CVO Piston Kits
Co-designed by Zipper’s and Wiseco Engineering during the development of Zipper’s Muscle 110 kit, these powerful forged pistons have superior design features over the competition.
These pistons are forged from 2618 material and are designed to be strong, durable and light in weight – everything you need in a high performance piston! The dome design more closely conforms to the CVO 110 chamber shape for a tighter quench area, which improves combustion and power. The slipper design keeps the overall weight lean and mean. Two compression heights are available, allowing expanded camshaft compatibility and power goals over current offerings. Three oversizes extend the useful life of the 110” cylinders.

SURVEY OF U.S. DADS REVEALS: 32 PERCENT FORGOTTEN ON FATHER’S DAY; 53 PERCENT WOULD RETURN GIFTS; AND ONE EVEN RECEIVED A SANTA NECKTIE–Harley-Davidson Helps America Avoid Further Father’s Day Flubs
MILWAUKEE (May 30, 2014) – While Father’s Day is meant to celebrate fatherhood and family, new data shows most American dads aren’t feeling the love. This year, Harley-Davidson rides to the rescue with a list of fresh ideas for unique Father’s Day gifts to let dad know how cool we think he really is.
A few lucky dads will also win upgraded gifts in exchange for sharing photos of past year’s flubs on Twitter or Instagram and tagging the post with #HDGiftSwap.
The survey, commissioned by Harley-Davidson, interviewed more than 1,200 American dads about their Father’s Day gifts and experiences. The findings are clear that not all dads get their due on their day — following are a few of their confessions:
· Sadly: Nearly a third of American dads (32 percent) confess they’ve had family members who have completely forgotten about them on Father’s Day.
· My Family Missed the Mark: More than half (57 percent of fathers) confessed to receiving a Father’s Day gift they did not like.
· “Take it Back:” More than half of dads surveyed (53 percent) said they’d received gifts they wanted to return. Perhaps that’s because more than half of the dads also confirmed they’ve received the same type of Father’s Day gift more than once.
· Not All Gifts Are Created Equal: When asked about the worst gift they’d ever received, dads were pretty candid, sharing the following gifting gaffes:
o “A painted rock.”
o “A tie with Santa Clauses on it!”
o “A coffee mug – for the 4th year in a row.”
o And, perhaps with mixed emotions: “My 45 year old unemployed daughter moving in.”
“We love our dads, but oftentimes we hit a roadblock when it comes to ideas for Father’s Day gifts,” said Karen Davidson, Creative Director, General Merchandise, Harley-Davidson Motor Company. “That’s why we’re amping up Father’s Day with some great gift ideas so families can get out of the dad’s day gifting rut and give him what he really wants.”
#HDGiftSwap = Gift Upgrade
Through June 15 (Father’s Day), the Harley® Gift Swap invites dads to share on Instagram or Twitter the strangest, goofiest or worst Father’s Day gifts they’ve ever received. When they tag it #HDGiftSwap, Harley-Davidson will surprise a select few dads with free gear.
Stumped? Check out the Father’s Day Gift Guide at www.H-D.com/fathersday
· Drinking Jars, featuring the famous H-D® shield, perfect for dad’s favorite cold drinks.
· H-D Wooden Grilling Tools to tie together two of dad’s favorite things – Harley and BBQ.
· Retro H-D Bar Signs, the perfect addition to any father’s man cave.
· A new Leather Jacket to up dad’s “cool factor.”
MEANWHILE BACK IN CAMBODIA WITH OUR INTERNATIONAL EDITOR–Saturday morning in Sihanookville.
After yesterdays e-m the event was underway.
Spent the evening strolling the venue.
Some photos but most will be tonight.
Stage activities and concert – until 10pm
Made it out to the fun zones.
Had to moto taxi as it is not nearby.
What they did was put me next to the event for convenience, which works well during the day. The other hotel 15 minutes away is near the FZ but better here to be able to get to event and room easily.
Motos are from $3 – $5 to move around the city.
It is a pretty big place though not modernized.
A draft Angkor (not to be confused with Anchor) is usually $1 in the Beer bars. $3 LD’s. Angkor is a local brew maybe playing on Anchor Steam Beer fame. Rather sad scene in that beer bar arena. Some (1or 3) diamonds in the rough – very rough.
Did manage however to make a new friend, all was not lost. It was actually at a really rustic bar on the beach that seemed to have all the partyers in town. Went to one really nice disco that was empty, At $5 a ride need to know where to go as it is quite far from one area to another. Although each area has a cluster of places.
Overall think of Tijuana. Think of Mexico in the old days with backpackers in flip flops, cargo shorts and tank tops. Furniture maybe salvaged from disposal – very casual. Oh yeah – helium balloons were going faster than they could fill them at $1 a pop. Bottle of water was 50 cents. Not sure why an expat would want to live here in Snkv. Weather sucks with long rainy season – long hot season – maybe the 4 winter months are good.
Hot and humid when not having knees in the breeze or the a/c comfort of a Lexus SUV.
I hear thunder and it is quite cloudy now – perhaps rain is coming. Got a call at 8;10 am asking if I was going on the ride. Ride ?? What ride ?? I guess it is an organized run to a casino up in the hills somewhere. There are several casinos in town. Told them my bike was broken and they called back to say there was a car for me. I couldn’t get ready in time to not hold up the group so I had to pass.
Oh well – gave me time to do catch up on e-m. Try to get out a few pics. The pics attached are actually from PP. Some of the uses of a small 50 cc scooter. I wish I had brought my keyboard and mouse to run this dam touchy laptop. Always jumping around.
The show won’t get underway until late afternoon – early evening so I have time to send a few more pics. Trying to keep file size manageable only allows 5 or 6 pics.

THE BAD JOKE LIBRARY IS STILL OPEN–A young boy enters a barber shop and the barber whispers to his customer, ‘This is the dumbest kid in the world. Watch while I prove it to you.’
The barber puts a dollar bill in one hand and two quarters in the other, then calls the boy over and asks, ‘Which do you want, son?’
The boy takes the quarters and leaves the dollar.
‘What did I tell you?’ said the barber. ‘That kid never learns!’
Later, when the customer leaves, he sees the same young boy coming out of the ice cream store & says,
‘Hey, son! May I ask you a question? Why did you take the quarters instead of the dollar bill?’
The boy licked his cone and replied, ‘Because the day I take the dollar, the game’s over!’

The dog’s owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker,and they were hoping for a miracle.
I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer.
I told the family we couldn’t do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.
As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure as they felt that Shane might learn something from the experience.
The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker’s family surrounded him.
Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.
The little boy seemed to accept Belker’s transition without any difficulty or confusion.
We sat together for a while after Belker’s Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animallives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, “I know why.”
Startled, we all turned to him.
What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I’d never heard a more comforting explanation. It has changed the way I try and live.
He said, “People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life — like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?”
The six-year-old continued, “Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay as long.”
Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them;
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride;
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy;
Take naps;
Stretch before rising;
Run, romp, and play daily;
Thrive on attention and let people touch you;
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do;
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass;
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree;
When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body;
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk;
Be loyal;
Never pretend to be something you’re not;
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it;
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.
There comes a time in life, when you walk away from all the drama and people who create it.
You surround yourself with people who make you laugh, forget the bad, and focus on the good,
so, love the people who treat you right.
Think good thoughts for the ones who don’t ~ life is too short to be anything but happy.
Falling down is part of LIFE…
Getting back up is LIVING…

TECH QUESTION, New Bikernet Reader Comment!– How to build the 45 Magnum Engine
http://www.bikernet.com/pages/story_detail.aspx?id=10409
Nice looking engine!!!!
I’m just going to start the process of building a 45 Magnum. I think I’ve gathered all the necessary parts. (Using the Sportster 900 top end). Was wondering if you ever found out the welding information you were looking for and wouldn’t mind passing it along to me.
Also any and all information that would make the journey easier for me. (Why re-invent the wheel when someone has been down that road and has the knowledge). I love the changes made…. Welding both sides of the 45 case, and strengthening of the bottom end. I’m going to farm out the welding and then attempt the machining myself.
I’m not a machinist by trade, but I do have a mill and a small lathe at my disposal.
Any detailed information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks & Cheers

WOW can you believe it June 1, 2014. It seems like it was yesterday when we are listening to the prophets of doom and gloom about Y2K. Do you remember all the talk back in the ‘90s about the world stopping because the computers would shut down because of the date changing from 1999 to 2000?
As we all found out things worked out just fine and some companies made a lot of money. As I reflect back I learn two things that we worry about today eventually become distant memories and time is passing quicker and quicker with each birthday.
This morning I reflect about how much of my precious time and energy has been wasted worrying needlessly about things. It seems that most agree that they just don’t have enough time. What I wonder then is why we waist so much of our time and energy on things like fear, worries, stress, regrets, others, the past and things that rob us of living fully in the present.
I am also amazed of how people have time to do it over again, but not enough time to do it right the first time.
I love the old saying “Yesterday’s the past, tomorrow’s the future, but today is a gift. That’s why it’s called the present”.
Let us embrace this Gift called time, we do not know how much we have, so make every second count.
The coin of Life is Time, spend it wisely. Emerson wrote “for every moment you remain angry you lose sixty seconds of Peace of Mind”.
Today Know: The lessons of Life are repeated until they are learned. Today I choose to learn from my lessons, I can’t afford the time to repeat them. It is clear to me that for every minute I waste I lose 60 seconds of Living, so I refuse to waist another second. From this moment on I make a Conscious effort to make every second count. I don’t know how long I am going to be on this plain, but I know that as long as I am here I am going to Live fully in the Present.
I let go of anything and anyone that robs me of my energy and Time
And So It Is

THE DAVE ZIEN FLAG CONTROVERSY CONTINUES–Thanks are to Harley-Davidson Corporate for helping spearhead increases awareness worldwide phenomenon:
Encouraging more motorcycles to fly flags, color, a movement increases awareness and stops accidents.
Encouraging flags of all kinds, from all nations. This commands respect from other motorists; often interactive waves, thumbs-up etc. evolve synergistically!
Reinvesting a massive consciousness arising, understanding that many Bikers are trained in ASMI (Accident Scene Management) “looking at us recognizes trained lifesavers.”
Introducing the upcoming million mile motorcycle tribute park, which recognizes miracles? At the road guardian compound in Big Bend, Wisconsin. Challenging all motorcycle manufacturers to make public their power-train, warranty issues and services.
(7) Inviting all motorcycle manufacturers to detail policies about flag protocol, size, nomenclature, flag mounts and warranty issues.
(8) Issuing determination of wind drag; resistance with trailers, sidecars, windshields, saddlebags, tour pack, heavy riders, passengers, accessories, luggage and flags (all mfg.).
Strongly challenging all motorcycle manufacturers to identify, document and verify high mileage motorcycles, operators and their experiences. (I.e. Dan Stephan, Zien with 103 cu. inch engine – 389,000 miles since April 2009; HD trikes near 137,000 miles since August 2011. Compare with HD and other brands).
May positive, patriotic passion be ever prevalent, allowing fierce patriotism and undying to intensify. “Our undying loyalty is more than passion, yet better than obsession – it’s spiritual transcendence!!” connecting all those who ever lived, loved and cherished freedom!”

WAKE-UP CALL AT 6:00—I need to wrap up the news early. I’ve been called to a mandatory run to Cook’s Corner in Laguna for a Hamster gathering. Hell, it’s June 1st and we haven’t got together all year, although the Redwood Run is fast approaching.
This could be the week for many things coming up. I’m working on my winged wheel for the front of the building. We will turn in our grant proposal for the side of the Bikernet Headquarters mural project. I finally heard from Yaniv of Power Plant, and I hope to wrap his feature up. Maybe I will hear from Matt Hotch and conclude two features with him.
I also need to install my new Jon Towle art in our 5-Ball Racing Bikernet Van. I just had it framed at Aaron Brothers. It needs to cover the hole where the TV was. I’m not a fan of televisions in vehicles, so art will do the trick to cover the vacancy.
We may hear from Toby and Diane on the next ATK report. They took a run to Wright Wood, California in the mountains for a training and testing session. They burned right through a rear tire and we are waiting on our Avon tire delivery.
Maybe I’ll hear from JIMS about my engine and about the engine tech we are working on. This could be another hectic week. Ah, but what the hell, you only go around once.
