THE LUCKY BIKERNET NEWS for March 20th, 2025

Hey,

We are lucky to be bikers. Bikers understand and relish freedom. Without freedom we wouldn’t be able to ride or build anything. It’s what this country was based on from the beginning.

Our freedoms were shot during the last administration. We were headed toward a total controlling regime based mostly on lies about Climate doom. As the bad guys started to roll toward a socialist world order and away from the working man, many Dems switched sides, like President Trump.

Of course, now he’s in office he’s under constant attack. Brothers asked about Tariffs. Were the rumors true? Here’s the issue. The previous admin sought to breakdown and destroy every American Institution and destroy the country. One of those was our economic relationships with other countries. More and more foreign countries owned American wealth, which hurt the middleclass big time.

There are three elements to help us get back to a balanced economic relationship with our neighbors. One, and the simplest is through tariffs. Second is through fixing regulations, which is more difficult. The third, has to do with education and innovation. It could take more time.

What’s the bottom line? According to the economist I listened to, the more wealth returning to America, the better and more stable our economy will be. America and the middle-class will return strong and free.

Trump is only six weeks into this term, and we live in a time when news hits us by the second. And the fake news is determined to make everything bad.

Like I said, we’re lucky. We’re bikers, builders and innovators. We want freedom and know what it means. And although we’re grubby and greasy, we believe in oil and what it has done for society. And like any brothers we demand truth and integrity. That’s coming back whether CNN likes it our not.

There’s way more, but…

Let’s hit the news.

The News was provided by the Bikernet Team including: Wayfarer, the Redhead, Bob T. Sam Burns, Laura, Barry Green, El Waggs, J.J. Solari, Amy White, Jenn and the rest of the crew.

S&S CYCLE TUNED INDUCTION AIR CLEANERS ARE HERE–

Air flow is everything in a performance engine and naturally it begins at the air filter. Factory units are downright boxy and can be very restrictive. The S&S Cycle Tuned Induction Air Cleaner utilizes two laser cut and highly engineered tubes merged into a single collector and fed by a pair of high flow air filters placed directly in the air flow. The end result is maximum performance for your engine, ample room for your leg to sit tightly against the body of your M8 Touring or Softail model, and a stylish package.

Available in Gloss Black, Chrome, or Stainless Steel finishes, our Tuned Induction systems allow for a 44% increase in air flow over the stock element, providing bolt-on performance thanks to twice the filtering area.

The dual smooth intake tracts are precision engineered lengths to increase performance. Like all S&S Cycle air cleaners, our Tuned Induction system features high-flow filter elements that are both washable and reusable, to provide a long life of performance!

The best part is that this system is exempt from emissions tampering regulations under CARB EO# D-355-55 so there are no restrictions on shipping or installing these systems no matter which state you’re in.

Note that the Tuned Induction system will not fit on motorcycles equipped with fairing lower glove boxes or Twin-Cooled™ models.

Find more information, and get a Tuned Induction air cleaner kit for yourself today from your local S&S Cycle dealer or directly from www.sscycle.com

CALIFORNIA SMOG REFORM–Classic Cars Get A New Lease on Life

Car enthusiasts across California may have a game-changing reason to be excited. Senate Bill 712 would mark a dramatic shift in the state’s notoriously challenging vehicle regulations for vintage automobiles. The newly introduced legislation would significantly simplify California smog check exemptions for collector cars built after 1975 – a known hurdle in a state often considered the birthplace of hot rodding.

For years, California’s strict (or, at best, convoluted) emissions requirements have been a thorn in the side of classic car owners. California smog checks are an ominous burden for millions of vehicles. Many enthusiasts, faced with the burden of making their beloved vehicles comply with emissions standards, chose to relocate to more car-friendly states like Arizona, Texas, and Nevada.

State Sen. Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) announced the introduction of Senate Bill 712, also known as Leno’s Law, to remove what they call unnecessary and burdensome smog check requirements for classic vehicles.

For restoration buffs, the stringent testing requirements often mean expensive modifications that could compromise the historical authenticity of these automotive treasures. For hot rodders, it meant modifying the engine or exhaust system of a vehicle with a model year of 1975 or newer was nearly off-limits (unless by chance the California Air Research Board blessed a part for your application).

The new bill will help strip away the most problematic hurdle: The requirement for collector vehicles to meet exhaust emissions standards and pass functional and visual inspections.

Leno’s Law

Under the proposed rules of Leno’s Law (named after famed collector and comedian Jay Leno), vehicles would qualify for exemption by meeting just two straightforward criteria: Being at least 35 years old and having proper collector vehicle insurance. This streamlined approach preserves the spirit of environmental responsibility while acknowledging the unique place classic cars hold in automotive culture.

How SEMA Has Been An Advocate

The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA), founded in 1963 by a group of small manufacturers who supplied performance equipment for early hot rods, has been fighting for enthusiasts’ rights for decades. The organization has evolved from its roots as the Speed Equipment Manufacturing Association to become a powerful advocate for the $51.8 billion specialty automotive industry.

SEMA’s influence extends far beyond California’s borders, with the organization scoring victories for automotive enthusiasts across the nation. Since its formation in 1997, the SEMA Action Network has united vehicle clubs, enthusiasts, racers, and business owners as a powerful political force. Their track record speaks volumes, having promoted hot rod and custom vehicle registration laws in over 20 states while spearheading national initiatives like the RPM Act. But enthusiasts aren’t fighting alone, SEMA’s robust government affairs team operates at both state and federal levels, transforming grassroots passion into tangible policy changes

Our classic cars are only driven for special occasions, weekend drives, and car shows. I am excited to work with Senator Grove on SB 712 to make it simpler for us to preserve these pieces of history. – Jay Leno

TEXAS WEATHER REPORT

Just replaced the front engine mount on the Dyna.  Rear mount has a small crack but looks new otherwise, especially when compared to the front.  I “think” she’s calming down a little, a little less pissed off?

I do want a set of the LED turn signals for the RP, don’t have the cash.  I have a CC but he doesn’t take them, plus I have no way to contact him.  The grills are cool if I had another FXR!

Although I came out this morning to oil puddle under her, at first thought it was brake fluid, but was trans fluid, poor maintenance by the owner.

Compensator went, trying the Drag Specialties compensator eliminator except for a couple, all of the reviews were positive.   All my bikes have had belt drives not sure  just the primary chain without a compensator will work for me.

BANDIT’S CANTINA REVIEW–

Thanks for the kind offer but I have all your books and a ton of stuff you have sent in the past. I especially enjoyed reading Outlaw Justice and Sam “Chopper” Orwell. It is amazing how Orwell seems to have predicted how things are today, with the ones in power trying to control peoples lives. I check Bandit’s Bikernet almost daily and look forward to every new article and story.

A toast to Bandit on his BD.

Keep up the good work and keep fighting the good and righteous fight!

FREEDOM NEEDS A LOBBYIST–

Last month I created a new organization called the Energy Freedom Fund. Some reporters have recently asked me about it, so I thought now was a good time to make a public announcement.

The Energy Freedom Fund is a new, principled advocacy and lobbying organization for energy freedom policies.

I am the founder and President, but I work as a volunteer with no compensation (more on that later).

I founded the Energy Freedom Fund, to quote our motto, “because freedom needs a lobbyist.”

While “lobbyist” is treated as an inherently sinister concept, a “lobbyist” is just anyone who is paid to help shape specific government policies, such as legislation or executive actions. They can lobby on behalf of special interests for government favors at others’ expense, but they can also lobby on behalf of principled people and companies for equal freedom for everyone.

Unfortunately in the industry I study, energy, the most influential lobbyists do not lobby consistently for freedom. There are many good people who often lobby for the freedom of particular sectors of energy when those sectors are under attack, but those people often will also lobby for special preferences at others’ expense.

Witness the leading oil and gas trade associations: they do vital work defending oil and gas from myriad anti-freedom attacks, but they also fight for the IRA subsidies for carbon capture and hydrogen—which are anti-freedom (and not good for the country, in my opinion).

Trade associations—which, I stress again, do vital work—also have another limitation in fighting for energy freedom: they are often unable to take controversial-but-right public positions because of fears that certain members or member shareholders will rebel. For example, during the Biden administration, the largest energy-related associations were unable or unwilling to publicly condemn and fight the “whole of government” climate-based attack on fossil fuels—even though that was the leading destroyer of energy freedom.

As someone who believes in energy freedom on principle, and who has developed detailed, pro-freedom policies for every sector of energy, I decided that there needed to be a well-funded organization that could employ super-talented people to lobby for energy freedom full-time. Fortunately, I was able to convince a variety of high-net-worth individuals and companies of this idea, and I founded the Energy Freedom Fund last month as a 501c-4.

In order to fulfill its mission of advocating for energy freedom across the board in an effective and principled manner, the Energy Freedom Fund follows a variety of rules, many of them unconventional.

Donors have no control over what positions we take or how we allocate resources. All such decisions are made by me.

I am not paid, directly or indirectly, so I have zero financial dependence on this organization. (And I am not myself a lobbyist.)

Our decisions about how to allocate resources are based on “energy freedom ROI”—where we can make the biggest unique impact on energy freedom for the least resources. If some policy is already being handled ideally by others, we won’t spend much time on it.

We accept policy ideas from anyone who has good, specific, pro-freedom ideas. Send them to ideas@energyfreedom.org.

All donors contribute a small fraction of our funds so that we are never dependent on one donor.

Donors are deliberately sought from as many sectors of the energy industry as possible so that we have maximum exposure to different industry perspectives.

Since I advise politicians, and now employ people who advise politicians, in order to avoid conflicts of interest I do not invest in energy.

Energy Freedom Fund does not endorse parties or candidates.

Energy Freedom Fund does not engage in fundraising for parties or candidates.

If you want an idea of what all this looks like in practice, here’s what our lobbyists do day-to-day. They find people in government who want to fight for energy freedom, and they offer to help develop policies, to create messaging, to recommend good people to work with, or to publicly support them for doing the right thing. That’s it.

Energy Freedom Fund currently has two talented full-time employees, Marc Marie (focused on regulatory affairs) and Ted Ellis (focused on Congressional affairs). But we are looking for more! If you love the idea of lobbying on principle for energy freedom, and you have a track record of great accomplishments, email hiring@energyfreedom.org.

NEWS FROM THE BIKERNET TEMPLE OF LOVE–

What Kind of Day Am I Going to Choose?

“The power of positive thinking is the ability to generate a feeling of certainty in yourself when nothing in the environment supports you.” — Tony Robbins

“There are two primary choices in life: to accept conditions as they exist or accept the responsibility for changing them.” — Denis Waitley

Life is shaped by the choices we make. I love the saying that when we think we don’t have a choice, we’ve actually just made one. The Universe responds to our choices through the Law of Attraction—what we focus on, we create. If we dwell on problems, they grow. If we see ourselves as victims, the world will provide reasons to support that belief. If we expect to struggle, we will. But the opposite is also true.

We must be mindful of what we place after the words “I am.” When we say, “I am having a great day,” we set the foundation for one. As Tony Robbins reminds us, “The only thing that’s keeping you from getting what you want is the story you keep telling yourself.”

If we keep one foot in the past, we cannot fully live in the present. Life’s lessons will continue to repeat until we truly learn from them. The truth is simple: change your mind, and you will change your life. The Universe is always ready to provide solutions, but we must align our thoughts with them.

So today, I choose to have a great day. I refuse to engage in negativity, doom scrolling, or judgmental conversations. I take full responsibility for my mindset and my experience.

Today, I Declare:

I consciously decide to live this day fully, embracing laughter, joy, peace, and love.

I recognize and accept the divine gifts in my life and feel deep gratitude for them.

I cherish every experience, knowing they have shaped me into who I am.

I welcome challenges, knowing the Divine always provides creative solutions when I pause and listen.

I trust that the Universe is guiding me to a higher level of living and expression.

I release this intention to the Universe, knowing it is already done.

And So It Is.

Namaste.

“Our lives are a sum total of the choices we have made.” — Wayne Dyer

Honoring the Life of Pearl Hoel on Her Birthday, November 10

Today we remember and celebrate Pearl Hoel, the heart and soul behind the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, who shared her love of motorcycling alongside her husband, J.C. “Pappy” Hoel. While Pappy was out riding and organizing with the Jackpine Gypsies, Pearl was the warm, welcoming presence behind the scenes. She opened their backyard to rally campers, cooked meals, and ensured visitors felt at home. Her generosity and love of the rally remained strong throughout her life, right up to her passing in 2005.

Pearl was not only a hostess but also a treasured storyteller. She kept the history of the rally alive by sharing her memories and insights with countless students, authors, and filmmakers. She inspired and educated generations, her kindness and wisdom shaping the legacy of the rally and the meaning of hospitality for all who crossed her path.

Today, we remember Pearl as a beloved figure in the rally’s history, whose impact and warmth will forever be felt by thousands of rally-goers and fans. Pearl Hoel passed away in 2005 at 99 years young, but her spirit lives on in every heart she touched.

But that’s it.  Assuming I just haven’t missed it, let’s at least put her on the list as a Founder for 2026.

Pearl is noted as being inducted into the Hall of Fame pre-2001. She is listed under Class of 1991 along with Dot Robinson and Jim Davis.

Her name is listed on the plaque downstairs as well.

THERE’S MORE, THE CARS ACT–

Support H.R. 2165 – The Choice In Automobile Retail Sales (CARS) Act Of 2025

Congress is currently on a one-week recess, but before they left town, Rep. Tim Walberg of Michigan introduced the Choice in Automobile Retail Sales (CARS) Act of 2025. This bill is similar to legislation Mr. Walberg introduced in 2023, which was passed by the U.S. House. The Senate failed to move on that bill, so it died at the end of the 118th Congress. U.S. Representatives Russ Fulcher of Idaho, Gus Bilirakis of Florida and Rick Allen of Georgia have joined Mr. Walberg as lead cosponsors for the 2025 bill.

This bill focuses on protecting the internal combustion engine. It does this in two ways. First, the bill prohibits using authority under the Clean Air Act to issue regulations that mandate the use of any specific technology or would limit the availability of new motor vehicles based on the vehicle’s engine type. Second, the legislation requires the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to update any regulations that result in the limited availability of new vehicles based on the engine.

This legislation would overturn a 2024 EPA rule, which, if not revoked, would cause about 56% of new vehicles sold between 2030 and 2032 to require electric motors.

If you want to save the internal combustion engine, ask your Representative to cosponsor H.R. 2165.

STURGIS RALLY NEWS FLASH–

Full Throttle Sturgis to Showcase Michael Lichter’s Iconic Motorcycle Photography During 85th Rally.

STURGIS, South Dakota, March 17, 2025 (VTC Newswire) – Full Throttle Sturgis has announced an exciting highlight for the upcoming 85th annual Pappy Hoel Motorcycle Rally. Attendees will experience an exclusive art exhibition featuring the renowned work of Michael Lichter, the world’s foremost motorcycle photographer. This special showcase will be hosted at the state-of-the-art Full Throttle Expo Center gallery during the rally, from August 1st through August 9th, 9 AM to 8 PM daily.

The exhibition will present a selection of Lichter’s images from his forty-five year career, including some of his most iconic images of Sturgis dating back to the 1970s, as well as some never-before-seen works. This display coincides with Lichter being honored during this year’s rally as the recipient of the prestigious 2025 Arlen Ness Lifetime Achievement Award, celebrating his unparalleled contributions to the art, culture and lifestyle of American motorcycling.

“On behalf of our family, staff, and customers, we want to congratulate Michael on his lifetime achievement award,” said Michael Ballard, owner and creator of Full Throttle Sturgis. “And we couldn’t be more excited for our customers to experience Michael’s work up close and personal in our beautiful new art gallery.”

Lichter’s photography captures the essence of American motorcycling, immortalizing its spirit, camaraderie, and culture through vivid and evocative visual storytelling. His legacy stems from decades of dedication, documenting the adventurous and artistic soul of custom bike builders, bikers and events like the Pappy Hoel Motorcycle Rally. His remarkable work reflects the blend of art, freedom, and shared experiences that define life on two wheels.

“Mike, Angie, and Jesse have made the Full Throttle a premier motorcycle and tourist destination over the last 20 years,” says Michael Lichter. “Now, with their world-class art gallery — one that rivals spaces you would find in New York and LA – they’ve elevated the experience further. I am so looking forward to this opportunity to share my work with the audience at the Full Throttle, which will surely include bikers who have never seen it before.”

The concept of curated motorcycle showcases has gained significant momentum over the past decade, inspired by the groundwork laid by Lichter’s annual “Motorcycles as Art” exhibit, which captivated enthusiasts for over 20 years. His trailblazing efforts in combining custom motorcycles and moto-themed art helped elevate motorcycles to a celebrated form of folk art.

Full Throttle Sturgis invites motorcycle enthusiasts, rally-goers, and art lovers to visit the Full Throttle Expo Center and celebrate this extraordinary artist’s work. Attendees can look forward to an inspiring visual narrative celebrating motorcycling’s history, culture, and community. Watch for details on when Michael will be in the gallery to meet with guests and tell stories behind the creation of the images.

GREENPEACE LIABLE FOR HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS—

It was just reported today by the Associated Press (AP) that Greenpeace was found liable in a lawsuit brought against them and will be required to pay millions in damages.

The AP report states:

“A North Dakota jury on Wednesday found Greenpeace liable for defamation and other claims brought by a Dallas-based pipeline company in connection with protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline.

The nine-person jury awarded Energy Transfer and its subsidiary Dakota Access hundreds of millions of dollars in damages.

The lawsuit had accused Netherlands-based Greenpeace International, Greenpeace USA and funding arm Greenpeace Fund Inc. of defamation, trespass, nuisance, civil conspiracy and other acts.

The case reaches back to protests in 2016 and 2017 against the Dakota Access oil pipeline and its Missouri River crossing upstream of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe’s reservation. For years the tribe has opposed the line as a risk to its water supply. The multistate pipeline has been transporting oil since mid-2017.

Plaintiffs’ attorney Trey Cox has said Greenpeace carried out a scheme to stop the pipeline’s construction. During opening statements, he alleged Greenpeace paid outsiders to come into the area and protest, sent blockade supplies, organized or led protester trainings, and made untrue statements about the project to stop it.”

NEVER A DULL MOMENT–

Frankie took this shot in LA Chinatown with his chopper. I hung out there awhile back.

Here’s one of his flash sheets. I want to hang one in the Emporium when we finish our refurb projects. They seem to multiply rather than get checked off the list.

I’m working with Adam Croft from Dime Bag leathers on another protective watch band. I decided to look around for an old Harley watch and found this one.

The Sheriff from Sweden is struggling with his country going to the dogs with open borders and woke everything. He will report in as the country regroups like so many are.

The Sheriff traveled the world checking on the chopper world for over 40 years, and he said this trip to Daytona might be his last. Here he is in South Florida with Warren Lane. Warren bought this bike built by C&L Hog Shop in Fort Pierce, FL. It’s a Louie Falcigno’s classic, Florida style, always tight and sleek.

So, hang on for this. I’ve been working with Ellen Teresi and the Easyriders magazine crew. She needed a hand and the Museum was the perfect solution to exhibit some wild bikes from way back and a couple of restored Hummers. Sir Fozz, the Museum board president fell in love with the champagne Hummer below. He wants to buy it.

The driver, Nick, showed up right on time, and I helped with unloading, along with Fozz, Lacey, and Dorian showed up.

Ellen and the Easyriders gang were kind enough to donate rollers and engines for educational projects.

Sir Fozz wanted to take it home…

Here’s an FXR ready to go. Add a primary drive, wheels and sheet metal and then go for a ride.

How’s this for a classic? I can see an Easyriders Exhibit forming with the Easyriders streamliner, bikes and more. Hang on for more reports.

There’s exciting shit in the air, everywhere. Chopper kids just want the cool factor built around traditional choppers. Micah McCloskey, Paul Wheeler and so many others are into the groove. They ride their choppers to all the top events and hangouts. Then they jump on big-inch bagger and peel across the country.

All we want is the freedom to do our thing, but it all must be based around truth and integrity. No one wants to be ripped off. No one wants to see the country fall apart, cities burn down, our borders busted or kids dying of fentanyl poisoning. We want strong families and folks with good-paying jobs who are proud to be Americans. Let’s make it happen or die trying, goddammit.

Ride Fast and Free Forever,

–Bandit
