Hey,
Lot’s of action happening quickly since the inauguration. The government was a serious mess. Hell, the ex-president had to pardon his family, which is an admission of guilt. What the hell did they do? Wow, crazy shit.
You’ll see lots of positive reports in the news. I wish someone would put Climate Doom on trial. President Trump is putting an end to the regulations, but I would like the fraud revealed in simple language. Kids need to know the deal.
Let’s hit the news.

NEWS FROM KIWI MIKE–
When evacuation loomed large, Carolyn and I decided to hit the road. But then, we’re always ready for a road trip!
Hello Friends.
Some would say I’ve had a crazy December and January to this point, but it’s just normal life in my world.
Carolyn and I flew to Missouri for Christmas to be with our friends there. It was a great time full of laughter and fun. The trip was prompted when my good mate Jerod found me a 2023 Bronco just down the road from him. So Carolyn and I got one-way tickets then did a road trip in the new Bronco back to Cali, taking Mike’s typical back roads adventure. It’s a hoot discovering old towns and relics along those former bustling U.S. highways. That’s where you see the real America.
We got home New Year’s Day and I wasn’t going to start any new jobs until I revamped and reorganized my shop. As I write this, it’s just over halfway through January and I’m still at it. It hasn’t been that bad of a job but since the wildfires hit SoCal we’ve been most of the time without power due to the high Santa Ana winds. (I have a small generator which allows us to run basic things like lights, refrigerators, etc.) At least the power company SAYS it’s due to the high winds but now, anytime the winds come up, they cut off our power. When I put things in context, I have a bit of problem with this. Let’s see: California has the fifth largest economy in the world yet we have below third world electrical reliably. Go figure? We’ve struggled to do any business of late and I’m convinced this will be the new normal, so I’m putting in my own big ass diesel generator.
About the SoCal wildfires: we are 60 miles from the Palisades/Alta Dena fires. We have friends and customers who live in that area and they have lost everything. It’s so sad. While the power outage has been a real pain in the ass for us, one has to stop and think that no matter how bad you think you have it, someone else has it a lot worse than you.

LEGISLATION TO MAKE CO2 GREAT AGAIN IN SOUTH DAKOTA–
See email below from Jana Hunt, a South Dakota member of their House that wants to emulate the good work in Wyoming.
I have included several people here who may be interested in assisting.
First and foremost is Senator Cheri Steinmetz, who was the driving force behind the Wyoming legislation.
Also included is Clint Clark who is a director of a local electric coop. He contacted us just last week:
“I am going to draft a resolution to the National Rural Electric Ass. in support of “CO2, as a necessary element to maintain life on this planet we call earth”.
After seeing what you are trying to do in the Wyoming Legislature with CO2, you have inspired me to try and introduce a bill or resolution to the South Dakota Legislature this year.”

DAKAR Rally 2025
“Dare. Live it.” ~ the slogan of Dakar Rally.
The 47th edition of the Dakar and the 6th in Saudi Arabia was completed in Shubaytah by 175 vehicles. 77 bikes (including 67 Rally 2), 40 Ultimate cars, 1 Stock car, 21 Challengers, 23 SSVs and 13 trucks reached the final finishing line after covering the entire 7,453 km (FIM) or 7,828 km (FIA) of the route. 52 vehicles that used their jokers also finished, while 108 were forced into premature exits from the rally (i.e., 32.24%).
The bike race witnessed a return to the top step of the podium for KTM, which enjoyed its 20th triumph on the race thanks to the unshakable Daniel Sanders who became the second Australian winner on the Dakar after having dominated the race from start to finish, as Marc Coma did in 2009.
Dakar Classic race for consistency came to a close with 80 vehicles (as opposed to 95 starters). Spanish title holder Carlos Santaolalla triumphed to become the first double winner since the creation of the category in 2021. The five vehicles enrolled in the Mission 1000 challenge completed their journey through Saudi Arabia, over a distance of 1,300 kilometres for this second edition. Progress was made since last year in terms of range and performance for the KH7 truck driven by Jordi Juvanteny, who already won in 2024, as for the hydrogen-powered HySe SSV. The three Segway electric bikes, which were newcomers to the challenge, also validated their technology on the terrains of the Dakar and can look forward with a whetted appetite to 2026.

100-WORD FICTION CONTEST IS ALIVE–
Running late for an appointment, I jammed-up behind a jacked-up pickup with two oversized flags lashed to the tailgate. Checking behind me, I prepared to pass, when there was a loud crack and suddenly everything went dark.
Blinded by a huge piece of flapping blue fabric I struggled to gain my vision. I yanked the stifling fabric away and in front on me stood a unyielding utility pole. To the left the truck rumbled, so I jumped the curb and slide across someone’s front lawn. I mowed it. I quickly checked my ride, removed clumps of grass, started her back up and took off.
I was definitely going to be late now.

TRUMP ENDING WAR ON FOSSIL FUELS AND CO2–
Donald Trump wasted no time issuing more than 200 sweeping Executive Orders, many pertaining directly to issues that the CO2 Coalition has championed since our inception ten years ago.
Paris Climate Accord – The United States Ambassador to the United Nations shall immediately submit formal written notification of the United States’ withdrawal from the Paris Agreement under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Read the entire executive order on the CO2 Coalition website: Putting America First In International Environmental Agreements
Endangerment Findings for Greenhouse Gases – Within 30 days of the date of this order, the Administrator of the EPA, in collaboration with the heads of any other relevant agencies, shall submit joint recommendations to the Director of OMB on the legality and continuing applicability of the Administrator’s findings, “Endangerment and Cause or Contribute Findings for Greenhouse Gases Under Section 202(a) of the Clean Air Act,” Final Rule, 74 FR 66496 (December 15, 2009).
Social Cost of Carbon – The Interagency Working Group on the Social Cost of Greenhouse Gases (IWG), which was established pursuant to Executive Order 13990, is hereby disbanded, and any guidance, instruction, recommendation, or document issued by the IWG is withdrawn as no longer representative of governmental policy.
And more as reported by the New York Times:
Declare a national energy emergency, a first in U.S. history, which could unlock new powers to suspend certain environmental rules or expedite permitting of certain mining projects.
Attempt to reverse Mr. Biden’s ban on offshore drilling for 625 million acres of federal waters.
Begin the repeal of Biden-era regulations on tailpipe pollution from cars and light trucks, which have encouraged automakers to manufacture more electric vehicles.
Roll back energy-efficiency regulations for dishwashers, shower heads and gas stoves.
Open the Alaska wilderness to more oil and gas drilling.
Restart reviews of new export terminals for liquefied natural gas, something the Biden administration had paused.
Halt the leasing of federal waters for offshore wind farms.
Eliminate environmental justice programs across the government, which are aimed at protecting poor communities from excess pollution.
Review all federal regulations that impose an “undue burden” on the development or use of a variety of energy sources, particularly coal, oil, natural gas, nuclear power, hydropower and biofuels.
Statement on the New Administration’s Actions on Day 1
Gregory Wrightstone – Executive Director, CO2 Coalition
Donald Trump’s immediate actions as president included those to restore common sense to energy policy and environmental protection. Perhaps none are more welcome than those that would reverse the treatment of carbon dioxide as a pollutant and a threat to humankind. CO2 is a beneficial gas critical to all life and should be treated as such.

THURSDAY LEARNING FROM COMPETITION DISTRIBUTING–Jim Davis & Banjo Two Cam Pocket Valve Racer
Jim Davis is sitting on his Banjo Two Cam pocket valve racer after winning the 1920 Dodge City 300 miler. The Dodge City track was a dirt track and required the strength and endurance of both man and machine. There were many changes in the pole position that day but Davis ended up clinching the win and a new track record of 3:40:04 an average of 81.50mph. Second place went to Gene Walker on an Indian, Third to Ray Weishaar on a Harley, and Speck Warner finished fourth.
The original series of sanctioned motorcycle races were held annually in Dodge City from 1914 to 1921, with the exception of the war years. The race continued well into the 1950s gradually becoming shorter and less well-known nationally and internationally but no less exciting for motorcyclists. Eventually, its run ended and the race fans left Dodge City for a small race in the Black Hills of South Dakota known as Sturgis.

NOW A NEW ZEALAND ELECTRIC BIKE COMPANY FAILS–
The pretty and tough electric motorcycles from UBCO of New Zealand may also disappear if not rescued —seems they are facing bankruptcy. Many were actually hoping to see more such motorcycles in petrol and EV. It seems they could not sustain their success from both critics and consumers.
UBCO facing receivership in New Zealand’s business shake-up
UBCO, a New Zealand electric bike manufacturer known for its utilitarian designs, recently encountered significant financial difficulties. It has led to the appointment of receivers. Despite securing a contract to supply bikes to Australia Post, this EV company seems to be struggling to maintain operations and fulfil its potential. Founded by two innovators with a vision of creating lightweight and robust on- and off-road bikes suitable for New Zealand’s rugged landscapes, UBCO garnered positive feedback from both users and critics. Now, after nearly a decade since its official launch in 2015, the brand faces an uncertain future.
Despite these advancements, UBCO’s optimistic trajectory has taken a sharp turn as receivers have been called in due to severe financial constraints. Grant Thornton representatives Stephen Keen and David Ruscoe have stepped in as receivers after terminating all employee contracts and halting trading activities. News reports suggest that one contributing factor to the company’s financial woes is its failure to pursue lucrative military contracts that could have bolstered revenue streams.
Yet, one can argue, entering receivership does not equate to immediate liquidation or bankruptcy. The primary role of receivers is to assess the company’s situation and explore options for recovery or sale. So, maybe there remains hope for UBCO. Can it secure new ownership or partners who may reinvigorate the brand’s prospects? We’ll see.

How many EV companies have failed? Especially in two-wheeler segment of the automotive industry?
Several Western EV companies have faced significant challenges and failures in the two-wheeler segment. Some notable examples include:
FUELL: An American electric two-wheeler company that filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in October 2024.
Energica: An Italian high-performance electric motorcycle maker that also went bankrupt around the same time.
Mission Motorcycles: Known for their innovative designs, they unfortunately couldn’t sustain their business.
Brammo: Another American company that produced electric motorcycles but eventually ceased operations.
Alta Motors: Despite creating exciting electric bikes, they too had to shut down.
LiveWire: LiveWire and Harley-Davidson are completely separate entities and companies. Yet, almost everything about LiveWire motorcycles is outsourced to Harley-Davidson. LiveWire Group has signed a service agreement with Harley-Davidson.
These companies struggled with various issues, including financial difficulties, market competition, and the high costs of developing and maintaining electric two-wheelers.
In China and India, many EV companies have faced challenges due to putting out EV before its infrastructure and also supply-chain issues with its essential raw materials–whether its the battery or the microchip or various other complicated integrated electronics. Software bugs and updates also cause concerns and failures in this automotive segment.

THE MOTORCYCLE RIDERS FOUNDATION REPORT–Executive Orders
Hours after being sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump issued several executive orders. An executive order is a directive by the President of the United States that oversees operations within the federal government. They have significant influence over the internal process of government, deciding how and the extent to which they will enforce legislation. Executive orders remain in effect until rescinded, so they often only last for the term of the President that issues them.
One of the orders issued directs government officials to consider eliminating subsidies and other policies that favor electric vehicles. The order stopped short of explicitly calling for the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Transportation to rework fuel economy and emissions regulations created during the Biden Administration.
However, this order does specifically call for terminating waivers that allow states to limit gas-powered car sales. It is a sign that policies enacted by the State of California and followed by other states may face pushback at the federal level. California’s withdrawal of a proposed electric motorcycle mandate late last year underscores the reality that the political landscape on this issue has changed.
The Motorcycle Riders Foundation remains committed to protecting the internal combustion engine and freedom of choice for consumers when purchasing vehicles. While these executive orders are a step in the right direction, further legislative action or regulatory reform will be needed to ensure long-lasting effects. We will remain vigilant here in D.C., defending the internal combustion engine and your freedom of choice.

SAM’S PICK OF THE WEEK–He once ruled the roads with a daring pride,
A blur of motion, the world open wide.
Now the mirror reflects a face worn with years,
Etched by the laughter, the struggles, the tears.
The throttle feels heavy, the curves seem steep,
The memories linger, the ache runs deep.
Yet though his strength wanes, his spirit won’t tire,
For his soul still burns with the old rider’s fire

Climate Group as Trump Set to Assume Power
EVEN BEFORE THE INAUGURATION–Five Federal Reserve officials, including chair Jerome Powell, voted for the withdrawal, while two officials did not vote.
The U.S. Federal Reserve is exiting a global climate change coalition days before the new Trump administration is set to take power on Jan. 20.
The Federal Reserve had joined the Network of Central Banks and Supervisors for Greening the Financial System (NGFS) in December 2020. NGFS, composed of global central banks and supervisors, aims to integrate climate and environmental risk management into the financial sector and mobilize “finance to support the transition toward a sustainable economy,” according to the group’s website. On Friday, the Federal Reserve announced its withdrawal from the 143-member coalition.
“The work of the NGFS has increasingly broadened in scope, covering a wider range of issues that are outside of the Board’s statutory mandate,” the agency said. Five Federal Reserve officials, including chair Jerome Powell, voted for the withdrawal, while two officials did not vote.

THE MISSING ENGINE—
We started to discuss a room in the Museum devoted to historic engines. I’m going to promote the effort by writing a mystery about the search for a rare engine. I asked Billy Lane if he could give me a list of some of the rarest engines.
Here’s his list: Crocker Hemi, Pope OHV twin, Cyclone twin, Vincent black Lightning, 1936 Knucklehead. “Egan owned only one of two Crocker SOHC Speedway racing engines,” Billy added or a collector who passed away a few years ago.
Regarding Billy’s engine above, it was the precursor to the Knucklehead. There were maybe 12 built and only nine are known to exist.
Hang on for the story and reports on our efforts to collect engines for the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum Exhibit.

INDIAN ARMY MOTORCYCLE STUNT TEAM–
Scored a world record by building highest human pyramid
Indian Army’s Motorcycle Rider Display Team “Daredevils” created a world record for the highest human pyramid on moving motorcycles on Monday. The formation, measuring 20.4 feet and comprising 40 men on seven motorcycles, covered a distance of 2 kilometres on Kartvya Path from Vijay Chowk to the India Gate. The Motorcycle Rider Display Team, known as the “Daredevils”, is from the Army’s Corps of Signals, and has a long history of accolades. The team now boasts an incredible 33 world records, including entries in the Guinness Book of World Records, Asia Book of Records, and Limca Book of Records.
The Daredevils were flagged in at India Chowk by the Signals Fraternity, including the Head of the Arms of the Corps of Signals, Lieutenant General KV Kumar, amidst cheers and motivation to boost morale for the contingent, the Army said in a statement.
Since its inception in 1935, the Daredevils have conducted over 1,600 motorcycle displays across India, during events such as Republic Day parades, Army Day parades, and various military tattoos. Their dedication and exceptional skill continue to inspire and showcase the prowess of the Army.

CENTERING YOURSELF–
When you feel depressed, angry or anxious, you need to realize those are just thoughts. You can calm your mind. You can change your mind. You can deal with anything if you have the energy and some quiet time.
Something recently caught me during an anxious moment. Someone mentioned Chi. Just the thought of focusing on my Chi changed my attitude. It sorta pulled me out of a funk and centered my thinking on something vastly positive. Here’s a description of Chi:
Chi, also known as life force energy, is a concept deeply rooted in various cultures and traditions. It represents the vital energy that flows through all living things, connecting and sustaining them. This article explores the essence of Chi, its origins, scientific perspectives, and ways to experience and cultivate it in daily life. Understanding the power of vibrations is fundamental to understanding Chi, as it is believed to be influenced and manipulated by internal and external energies. In traditional Chinese medicine, practices such as acupuncture and qigong are used to help balance and harness this energy for health and well-being. By tapping into the concept of Chi and understanding the power of vibrations, individuals can enhance their physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
Key Takeaways
- Chi is the life force energy that flows through every living being, connecting and sustaining them.
- Different cultures have unique interpretations and practices related to Chi, but the core concept remains the same.
- Modern science is beginning to explore Chi, but it remains a challenging concept to measure and fully understand.
- Experiencing Chi involves both physical sensations and emotional effects, often described through personal stories and practices.
- Cultivating Chi can be achieved through various methods, including diet, breathwork, and traditional practices like Tai Chi and Qigong.
There you have it. Rest and be kind.

CLIMATE CLARITY OR BUST
Will President Trump and some of the populist parties in Europe be capable of countering the entrenched globalist climate agenda?, asks economist Dr. Tilak K. Doshi. “The climate industrial complex fears the prospect of the Trump administration’s pullout of the Paris agreement for the second time. Politico, a reliable mouthpiece for the climate establishment, expressed these fears soon after Mr. Trump’s election victory: “The world is bracing for President-elect Donald Trump to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris climate agreement for the second time, only this time, he could move faster and with less restraint.” In Europe, the emergence of populist parties have been partly propelled by the widespread rejection by EU citizens of the onerous fiscal burdens imposed by green policies. The seismic change in policy direction that a second term ‘drill, baby, drill’ Trump administration promises for the global climate juggernaut can only be seen as hopeful as we look forward to positive developments in energy policy in 2025.”

Clintel is an Amsterdam (The Netherlands) based thinktank founded in 2019 by Dutch emeritus professor Guus Berkhout and science writer Marcel Crok.
Clintel operates as a climate science and climate policy watchdog. In its first year it launched the World Climate Declaration, stating “there is no climate emergency”. That declaration is now signed by more than 1950 scientists and experts. We also published an analysis of the latest IPCC report, titled The Frozen Climate Views of the IPCC.

REAL DEAL 5-BALL BEDROLL REVIEW–So here is my take on the Real Deal Bedroll.
It is a 49” x 74” stuffed quilt blanket with a tough-as-nails canvas on one side and a soft flannel on the other. It has a million uses and looks John Wayne, badass strapped to set of motorcycle handlebars.
This bedroll is great for camping but it is also a comfortable sleeping arrangement in other situations. Hotels continue to raise rates… frequently over $350 during bike rallies and events. When there are three guys it just makes sense to book one double room and draw straws for who gets the floor. You can still be comfortable with a Real Deal Bedroll.
Through the years, I have tried a variety of wool blankets, army poncho liners, tech blankets and quilts. I feel a little bit like Goldilocks saying this, but nothing was “just right.”
The outdoor industry wants to produce something as light and warm as possible but that is not ideal for most bikers. We are not backpackers, size matters but not weight so much. All the synthetic materials I try are slick, they seem to slide all over. The synthetic materials don’t breathe well and can be overly hot and sticky.
Wool blankets or Mexican blankets look cool on the handlebars until you hit the first rainstorm. I looked at some “waxed cotton” lined with a wool blanket but they were always too short for me and insanely expensive. Nothing was “quite right.”
This Real Deal is just right. The dimensions are spot on… so it is wide enough to cover a fat guy and long enough for a tall guy. The extra length is nice and sometimes I tuck some of the bedroll under my feet when I sleep. Every detail is on point including a seam to allow you to fold it into thirds easily and then roll it up. I cut the straps off but, that’s just me. I smash mine down and it straps to the handle bars nicely as an 18 ½” long roll with just over a 6” diameter.
The Real Deal bedroll has a ton of uses. Crash on a friend’s couch. Camp on a warm night. Fold it in half and it’s the perfect size for two people to sit, at a sandy beach or at a music festival. Use it to put your tools on for some shade tree maintenance. Throw it over your head and enjoy watching a thunderstorm or throw it over a wet chair in the morning as you relax with a morning cup of coffee. It’s great for a picnic lunch (of broken glass, Jack Daniels and hard salami). Guy’s like Bandit can grab a cute redhead and head out to a quiet spot in the woods.
Buy it, skip one night of hotel and you are money ahead. It’s in the shop on Bikernet.com.

MEMO and INVITATION
FROM: Bob Kay, Chairman, Independent Motorcycle Aftermarket
TO: Independent Shop Owners, Accessory Manufacturers and Friends of Motorcycling
I am pleased to invite you to a legislative update in Las Vegas in February, courtesy of the Independent Motorcycle Aftermarket (IMA). With over five decades working in and dedicated to the motorcycle aftermarket I am proud to lead the fight to protect our right to repair and modify motorcycles, preserve our option to choose internal combustion as our power source and ensure that proper fuels are available to riders.
While many have recently become aware of dangers to the growth and longevity of our industry, the IMA has been working our ground game for over two years and we are ready to introduce legislation.
I’ll be conducting the legislative update along with our lobbyist detailing who, what and how we may all be affected by pending laws restricting motorsports and those that can protect our interests. We will take your questions, as well.
I look forward to meeting you and addressing any concerns you may have.

WHAT’S NEXT?—
I’ve been all over the place this week. If you live a similar life let me know. So, Wednesday hit with a snow storm and high winds blowing the snow into icy sand dunes across our property. It’s idyllic, beautiful and even sorta fun when I fight my way outside to clear the walk and our driveway to the street. Before I avoided slipping in my spiked Ugg boots the drifts of snow blew back over the road again. Nice try.
I hit the computer like a man with a strict impending deadline. Micah McCloskey called and we talked Bonneville, Grease and Gears TV, our raffle effort and a suggestion he had for the Danial James art. We are kicking it around. Actually, we’ve now decided to create another piece of art with all the builders involved. Hang on for the concept drawing.
Danial James is a delight to work with, and I sent him the Hugh King Raffle bike story. We worked on some additional info and corrections. I sent a draft to Steve Piehl to review. He will need the info for a Press Release.
My step daughter, Karley reached out. Pacific Coast Cycles in Long Beach is rebuilding her Evo Sportster 883 engine. She hits me with mechanical questions from time to time.
The Mecum auction is coming up and I’m looking for a running 1913 Twin Harley Engine. They only built one model that year.
As you know, I’ve constantly involved with the MRF, the IMA and the CO2 Coalition. We are making major strides on the Fossil Fuel Freedom Front.
I spoke to Tim from flat earth about painting the repaired tank for the Salt Torpedo. He’s going to add our Mascot art to the sides or maybe the top. He wanted to take it to TNT for the base silver coat.
Here’s the tank modified by Dorian, and Ugly MC hangaround. He’s a very talented guy and I hope he becomes involved in the Museum. We need the young guns.
To top off my list of to-does the other day, I’m working with Rogue and Berry Wardlaw on a book about Rogue’s life. He’s been through it all. Last night I watched the Kevin Costner epic, Horizon. I was inspired and challenged. There’s something dramatic about a western, open ranges and wild gun fights. We need to make chrome and concrete streets equally alluring.
With the Redhead’s astute help we organized all of Rogue’s materials into this special sanctified folder. I’m going to rough out an outline and then tackle the first chapter. Hang on.
Each chapter will be featured on ‘Bikernet, even the rudimentary rough drafts. You’ll get to see it change and flex into a final draft.
Panhead John of Deadwood needed a standoff for his linkert. A brother from 13 Palms sent me a box of goodies. It contained a rare bombsight Linkert M-35. The bastard contained just the standoff John needed. Amazing.
It’s been sorta fresh this week with snow off and on and a cold snap into the -4 degrees. Only last a couple of days and it’s gone like a wintery cool breeze. Just don’t slip.
Adam Croft of Dime Bag Leathers is remaking my watch band with a single strap. This looks like a small easy piece, but they are very complex leather puppies between the straps, the protective cover and the loops to hold the watch. Everything must be form fitting perfect. He’s doing a helluva job.
Finally, one of the most talented, early Easyriders Magazine team members was Hal Robinson. He was a pen and ink master and wild cartoonist. I’ve been in touch with his wife Ann Robinson for several years. Hal passed, but his wife is devoted to keeping his name and his art alive. There’s a story on Bikernet and recently she sent me two chapters. Watch for them in the near future.
