Life is nuts, but we’re living in the best of times, except for Ukraine and Covid. Think about your phone, your car, all the technology to keep us safe and going to the next wild event.

We look around the world at all the bad shit, and wonder why anyone bothers with the bullshit, when you could be camping, building cool shit, riding with the wind, going on a run, flying an airplane, heading to a car show or a bike show or enjoying a day in the park with your kids.

Unfortunately, going to a bike show doesn’t drive traffic to a media outlet. It doesn’t create pandemonium in the press or a reason for a legislator to be interviewed over his bill to stop all fun because we are doomed.

But fortunately, they are wrong in many cases. They are trying to censor the right, but it won’t work, and the freedom and fun will return. But we need to step up and help, by joining your local or national motorcycle rights group and supporting their efforts.
 

Okay, so I went on the Cycle Source Podcast last week. I didn’t do as well as I would have liked to, but what the hell. It’s just a couple of grubby bikers and the lovely Cycle Source Queen trying to entertain more grubby bikers.

WILD TECHNOLOGY OF THE WEEK–‘An army of robots’ and zero human workers will build a dam in China

China is using artificial intelligence (AI) to effectively turn a dam project on the Tibetan Plateau into the world’s largest 3D printer, according to scientists involved in the project.

The 180 metre (590 feet) high Yangqu hydropower plant will be built slice by slice – using unmanned excavators, trucks, bulldozers, pavers and rollers, all controlled by AI – in the same additive manufacturing process used in 3D printing.

When completed in 2024, the Yangqu dam will send nearly five billion kilowatt-hours of electricity each year from the upper reaches of the Yellow River to Henan, the cradle of Chinese civilization and home to 100 million people.

We have some news to share today with our IMS Family. After 40 years of producing The International Motorcycle Shows and IMS Outdoors, we have made the difficult decision to suspend the IMS Tour in 2022.

Unfortunately, as you are aware, the powersports industry is at crossroads with where and how marketing dollars are best spent amidst the continued manufacturing and sourcing delays associated with the pandemic.

These current hurdles would have made it difficult for us to produce an IMS that would meet your, and our, expectations. Therefore, we will not be moving forward with the planned 2022 events, including the Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Shows. We hope to return the tour in the future, but at this time, we are suspending the events for the foreseeable future.

We greatly appreciate your support, loyalty, and partnership over the years and hope to work with you and your companies again in the future.

BLAME EUROPE for “socially acceptable” hybrid hypercars

The default start mode on Ferrari’s SF90 Stradale is silent. Keep going without firing up the V-8, however, and you’ll run out of juice after just 16 miles.

That’s probably not enough to get you to the local coffee shop, let alone your nearest cars and coffee meetup, yet this level of EV range is typical for today’s hybrid hypercars.

Why so little? Blame the Europeans.
Carmakers are under huge pressure to put the internal combustion engine on ice. In the European Union, new fossil fuel-powered cars will be banned from 2035. Here in the United Kingdom, it’s 2030, and in the meantime they’re being forced to meet ever stricter, emissions, economy, and noise regulations.

When your business is powerful, noisy, high-performance vehicles meeting these restrictions is getting tougher and tougher. Fail to meet the requirements and car makers face massive fines. Every single gram per kilometer of carbon dioxide over the limit results in a penalty of €95 ($100)—and that’s paid on every car produced. Currently the limit is 95 g/km but that will be cut by a further 15 percent in 2025 and then an additional 37.5 per cent from 2030 until the 2035 deadline for ICE vehicles to be abandoned.

Then there’s noise. In cities like London and Paris audio-triggered cameras are being set up to catch drivers whose cars are too loud. In one year alone 10,000 London drivers were hit with fines, with a Lamborghini owner being nailed as the loudest at 112.98 decibels.

The exotic manufacturers need a workaround, and they need it now. That’s where these hybrids come in. Really, they’re just a way to game the system.

By mapping software to the official test cycles Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley, and others can achieve miracles. In a lab, at least. Take the latest Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid as a prime example. It will travel just 26 miles on a fully-charged battery alone before its 2.9-liter twin turbo V-6 has to kick in.

Nonetheless that’s sufficient to produce only 75 g/km of CO2 on the WLTP test cycle and a combined economy of 3.3l/100 km (equivalent to 71 mpg U.S). By contrast the V-8 Flying Spur produces 270 g/km and the W-12 a hefty 320 g/km and a U.S. combined economy of 15-19 mpg.

Reality on the road is, of course, rather different to the laboratory and Bentley’s high-flying hybrid will probably only see 25 mpg on longer journeys—but it beats the system and lets the British brand keep selling without penalty until electrification becomes inevitable.

While Bentley performance is built around being effortless, for other exotics the soundtrack is as important as speed, and that is also under threat—in city centers at least. Partial electrification offers an escape route.

“Owners asked for the ability to drive in electric-only mode—a feature which was not initially available on our first hybrid car, the LaFerrari, but which was made the default start mode for the SF90 Stradale due to client demand. It seems our clients appreciate driving in electric-only mode in city centers, presumably because it is more socially acceptable to do so,” Ferrari spokesman Jason Harris told Hagerty.

Ferrari and others may have framed their electrification antics as being about performance—and the instant torque of electric motors certainly add speed, but make no mistake, the only reason it’s happened is to beat a flawed testing system.

We honor multiple hall of famer and pioneering voice of women motorcyclists

Editor’s Note: It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of a pioneer in women and motorcycling, Linda “Jo” Giovanonni. Jo’s humble spirit had her flying under the radar most of her motorcycling career which is why her name may not be familiar to most of you. But we here at WomenRidersNow.com (WRN) have a deeply held connection to this visionary woman.

Jo Giovannoni co-founded Harley Women magazine in 1985, along with her friend and business partner Cris Sommer Simmons. Harley Women was the first magazine dedicated to female riders. Harley Women changed its name to Asphalt Angels, and that’s when WRN’s Genevieve Schmitt got involved.

Genevieve took over the reins as editor in 1998, and two years later rebranded it by calling it Woman Rider magazine. That lasted four years as a print magazine. At a time when the internet was just gaining momentum, Genevieve continued the legacy of the magazine aimed at women motorcyclists by launching our very own WomenRidersNow.com in 2006.

We are forever grateful to Jo Giovannoni and her efforts in keeping Harley Women and Asphalt Angels alive in what was a challenging publishing environment. To celebrate Jo Giovannoni’s life, we asked Cris Sommer Simmons to share some memories.

Pioneering Woman
Linda “Jo” Giovannoni was my hero. She was my mentor, riding partner, and best friend for many years. She was an “influencer” before there was a thing called the internet or social media. A woman who rode a motorcycle was a very rare thing back when I started riding in the ’70s.

Whether it’s Big Money or Big Fun, the Midwest’s largest motorcycle drag racing series—NHDRO—knows how to pile it on. The NHDRO family is kicking off their 2022 season with the Midwest Race Trilogy—three full races over three days at West Salem, Ohio’s beautiful and conveniently located Dragway 42.

Bracket racers (Box and No-Box in separate eliminations), Schnitz Racing Top Gas 8.20 riders, and Pro Ultra 4.60 studs will all have a chance at three separate payouts, starting with Friday’s Big Show Shootouts.

The Big Show Shootouts are 100% payback races, getting underway at 6:00 pm on Friday. Regarding Vintage Tours claiming – “They don’t speak Hindi in Ladakh like in the rest of India, they speak Ladakhi.”

Rest of India does not necessarily speak Hindi as well. There are 28 States and 8 Union Territories.

Each state and union territory has one or more official languages, and the constitution recognizes in particular 22 “scheduled languages”.

The Central Government uses both Hindi and English language for national and international communications. Whereas each State has enough autonomy (just as States in USA) to use their State’s language for official communications (along with Hindi and/or English).

You can imagine, creating a successful pan-India Advertising campaign is quite a bit of work in India for Ad Agencies and Marketing folks.

Outdoor Recreation Roundtable Hosts Electric Vehicle Summit

While much of the focus on electric vehicles surrounds on-highway transportation and commuting, the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable is diving into the world of EVs and public lands and trails. Late last month, the ORR held its first-ever Electric Vehicle & Next Generation Technologies for Outdoor Recreation Summit to examine consumer demand, industry readiness, charging infrastructure, and what it can mean for business.

Key remarks came from Austin Brown, senior director for transportation emissions at the White House; New Mexico Senator Martin Heinrich; Laura Daniel-Davis, principal deputy assistant secretary – land and minerals management at the U.S. Department of the Interior; and Kampgrounds of America, Inc. President and CEO Toby O’Rourke. The summit included panel discussions with speakers from federal and state agencies, partner organizations that are vital for the outdoor recreation industry’s integration of next-generation technologies, as well as outdoor recreation businesses – including the Brunswick Corporation, QuietKat, THOR Industries/Airstream, Winnebago Industries, and Zero Motorcycles.

“The government has already approved almost $8 billion for expanding the EV charging network and it’s up to Zero and other leading OEMs to advocate to get the charging options outdoor enthusiasts need in the places they want to ride,” said Dan Quick, director of communications for Zero Motorcycles. “This is the kind of opportunity that wouldn’t be possible for the industry without the tireless efforts of the MIC, and we were thrilled to do our part to make it happen.”

The ORR said it plans to hold a Capitol Hill briefing and release a white paper based in large part from the discussions and information shared at the event.

“The cross-sector businesses and partners gathered (at the summit) have an opportunity to lead the greening of outdoor recreation experiences, make significant impacts in reducing carbon emissions while helping to create jobs, and build local economies as we introduce next generation technologies to recreation consumers,” said ORR President Jessica Turner. “This event was extremely important because of the industry-wide thought-leadership on how we begin the transition to cleaner technologies, and ensured we can be clear-eyed about the opportunities and challenges ahead.”

OPEN LETTER TO ELON MUSK–

On January 22, 2021, Elon Musk tweeted, “Am awarding $100 M towards a prize for best carbon capture technology.”

Elon assumes, as most people do, that the following United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) theories are true:

  1. Human carbon dioxide emissions have caused all the carbon dioxide increase.
  2. This increase causes global warming and dangerous climate change.
The economic implications are significant because if these IPPC theories are wrong then no one should waste money and engineering talent on carbon capture.
 

These IPPC theories ARE wrong. The “best carbon capture technology” is to not capture carbon dioxide that our plants need to better survive drought and produce more food.

Surely, Elon, a physicist, will figure this out and save himself some pocket change by bringing climate truth to the world.

How good are these IPCC theories?
Very few people have the time, talent, and interest to check these IPCC theories. Most people and world politics assume these IPCC theories are true. So, scientists who prove these IPCC theories wrong may seem to the IPCC believers to be heretical.

These IPCC theories are the basis of all climate alarmism, climate treaties, climate laws, climate energy policies, climate taxes, climate education, and, yes, carbon capture.

Governments derive power from these IPCC theories. So, they will not fund scientific research that contradicts these IPCC theories. Government-funded scientists must support these IPCC theories.

However, some talented scientists have had the resources and freedom to investigate these IPCC theories.

Here’s what they found regarding IPCC’s theory (1) or core theory:
Using IPCC’s natural carbon cycle data, human carbon dioxide has caused 33 ppm and nature 100 ppm of the carbon dioxide increase above 280 ppm (Berry, 2021).

Carbon-14 data indicate human carbon dioxide may have caused only 10 ppm and nature 123 ppm of the increase (Salby and Harde, 2021).

Carbon-13 and carbon-14 data limit the human contribution to 48 ppm and eliminate the possibility that the human contribution is 133 ppm or 100% of the carbon dioxide increase (Skrable and French, 2022).

Since nature controls the carbon dioxide level, would nature have added the human-caused 33 ppm if human emissions did not exist (Berry, 2021)?

Regarding IPCC’s theory (2), several scientists have found the carbon dioxide level has little, if any, effect on global temperature and, therefore, on climate change. Data show that temperature changes precede carbon dioxide changes, making temperature the cause and the carbon-dioxide level the effect.

Therefore, these IPCC theories are invalid, and the world’s climate politics is running in the twilight zone way outside accepted physics.

How true science works
The scientific method says it is impossible to prove a theory is true (as the IPCC claims to do), but it takes only one contradiction to prove a theory is false.

Many scientific papers show the contradictions to IPCC’s theories.

Berry (2021) uses IPCC’s natural carbon cycle data to prove IPCC’s core theory (1) is false which checkmates the IPCC. This proof overrides all claims that IPCC’s core theory is true.

There is no scientific basis to support IPCC’s climate theories. Unfortunately, almost no one understands this.

The objections
Those who object to finding IPCC’s theories invalid promote an illogical, unrealistic version of science.

For example, they believe the human 5% inflow causes 32% of the content of the atmosphere, which is impossible.

The only way that can happen is if the human 5% inflow stays in the atmosphere longer than the natural 95%, which they claim happens.

The IPCC says 66% of natural carbon will flow out of the atmosphere in 3.5 years but it takes millions of years for 66% of human carbon to flow out of the atmosphere.

However, these claims are clearly wrong because human and natural molecules are identical and will flow out of the atmosphere in equal times.

Those who believe IPCC’s climate theories and the claims to justify them, are illogical.

What this means to you
Human carbon dioxide does not change the climate. The claim that it does is not only scientifically wrong but is a global fraud.

The climate-alarmist zombies, fully controlled by the climate BORG, want to assimilate you, and make you a slave. They use IPCC’s invalid core theory to steal your freedom, grab carbon-fuel land, stop you from owning a private vehicle, and stop you from eating meat.

Your only way to stop them is to fight them. Your only way to fight them is to use climate truth. Dr. Ed Berry teaches climate truth.

An Urban Street Tracker

Del Mar presents a street-tracker stance on 19-inch front and rear wheels equipped with custom developed LiveWire Dunlop DT1 tires equally capable on paved and dirt surfaces. The slim seat tops a short tail section. A tracker-style handlebar fronted by a thin flyscreen places the rider in an upright position for a comfortable and controlled riding experience.

Launch Edition Model

Only 100 examples of the Del Mar Launch Edition models will be made, featuring an exclusive finish and wheel design. The graphics and paint – in a choice of Jasper Gray or Comet Indigo – are applied by hand using a process that takes 5 days to complete. The design employs an opposing-fade, representing and celebrating both the exciting and soulful experiences of riding LiveWire electric motorcycles.

The intricate pattern of the 19-inch PCB cast-aluminum wheels evokes the dense patterning and framework found on printed circuit boards. The vaulted and tapered spoke design promotes lateral stiffness for enhanced handling performance, while also pushing the boundaries of casting technology.

The Del Mar Launch Edition model debuts with an MSRP of $17,699, while the production version is expected to launch with a target MSRP of $15,000 USD. Delivery of the Launch Edition and production versions of S2 Del Mar model are set for the spring of 2023. FORD REPORTS Devastating Losses Thanks to Electric Vehicle Gamble—
 

Major U.S. automaker Ford blamed its sizable investment in electric vehicle (EV) company Rivian for its dramatic revenue decline in the first quarter of 2022.

Ford reported revenue of $34.5 billion between January and March, a 5% decline relative to the same period in 2021, and a net loss of $3.1 billion, according to the company’s earnings report released Wednesday. The Detroit automaker said its large investment in Rivian accounted for $5.4 billion in losses during the first quarter.

A Very Sad Story

Brad lives in Delaware. He was sick of the world, of Covid-19, of Trump, Russian belligerence, China, global warming, racial tensions, and the rest of the disturbing stories that occupy mainstream media headlines.

In short, he was despondent.
 

Brad drove his car into his garage and then sealed every doorway and window as best he could.

He got back into his car and wound down all the windows, selected his favorite radio station, started the car, and revved it to a slow idle. He simply couldn’t take it anymore.

Two days later, a worried neighbor peered through his garage window and saw him slumped in the car. She notified Emergency Services, and they broke in, pulling Brad from the car.

A little sip of water and, surprisingly, he was in perfect condition, but his Tesla had a dead battery.

Riveter Chapter of the AMCA is happy to share the news that Cardo Systems is now the official communication systems sponsor for the Chix on 66 Powered by Harley-Davidson ride June 10-25, 2022. As part of this sponsorship, Cardo will enable Chix on 66 ride leaders to utilize state-of-the-art Cardo Systems Packtalk communications units on the ride.

Chix on 66 is a cross-country ride comprising 40 women that will follow the entirety of Route 66 from Chicago, Illinois, to Santa Monica, California, adhering to the original alignment to the extent possible.

CO2 COALITION NOTES–
For the last 140 million years, CO2 levels fell precipitously and steadily to within about 30 ppm of the 150 ppm “line of death” below which plants can’t survive.

Both the relatively short-term data from ice cores and much longer-term data going back 140 million years (Berner 2001) show an alarming downward trend toward CO2 starvation.

The release of carbon dioxide by the use of fossil fuels has allowed humanity to increase concentrations of this beneficial molecule, and perhaps avert an actual CO2-related climate apocalypse.

BIKERNET MUSIC DIRECTOR REPORT–
I got hold of all 7 original studio albums of Creedence Clearwater Revival and can’t stop listening to it. I read about how the music label screwed John Fogerty – the founder member of the band and lead singer, lead guitarist, principal songwriter of the band.

He has had 10 Solo Studio Albums since then – so plenty to catch up. Rolling Stone magazine lists him at no 40 on Top 100 Songwriters of all time.

I also like The Doors and Bob Dylan. Got all the original studio albums of The Doors (ones when Jim Morrison was alive). I got plenty of Johnny Cash too including the first Live at Folsom Prison.

I don’t think any artist or band since 2000s have created such consistent cool music. There are a few gems who do make an effort at lyrics and music / album that would last beyond a year. Also not surprising that iTunes introduced the concept of just buying specific songs instead of the whole album – no one wants to pay for the rest of the crap in many artist’s albums in most of these hit songs.

In pop R&B, I found one album recently through a streaming service that I gladly paid for. She is a 26 year-young British singer-songwriter named “Dua Lipa” (real birth name). She is known for her signature disco-pop and R&B sound. Maybe you will like it during a workout.

Happy Brother’s Day To You About 9% of the US population has served in the military. Just under one percent are serving on active duty today. These numbers are small but often it is the small things that nurture greatness.

As our government is headed towards a most drastic reduction in our military capability at a time when we may be facing a growing worldwide threat from Russia, China and the Middle East, I worry that our culture has come to denigrate the contribution and sacrifice of those who serve.

Bless you all. You may have served in Combat or in non-combat. You may have retired out or you may have served for a short time. You may have been a draftee or a volunteer. You may have served in the Corps, Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard or the Merchant Marines, BUT YOU SERVED.

YOU DID YOUR JOB HONORABLY and for that I am PROUD to call you Brother.
 
You may have served during Korea, WWII, Vietnam, Persian Gulf, Iraq or Afghanistan, But you served, you did not run. You have a DD 214 with those words “HONORABLY DISCHARGED” two of the most noble words in the world. A Salute to all those with whom I’ve had the great honor to serve.

Hey, Finished Green Murder a week or so ago. Interesting read. The author held what I have believed for a long time that the earth goes through cycles and we humans are such a non factor it amuses me when people say we can change the climate.

Yes, we can combat pollution in the way we treat trash disposal and crapping in our rivers and water supplies. But changing the climate???

If we could don’t ya think droughts and storms might be something to avoid. Should be required reading for the green population. But lies if repeated enough get into people’s heads this has been proven in the political area big time.

NEWS FROM SEMA–Outdoor Recreation Getting a Big Bipartisan Boost in Congress

The Senate Committee on Energy & Natural Resources unanimously passed America’s Outdoor Recreation Act of 2022 this month. This legislation, beneficial to the off-highway powersports industry and OHV enthusiasts, was introduced by committee chairman Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia and ranking member Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming.

The landmark package also included several groundbreaking recreation bills: the Colorado Outdoor Recreation & Economy Act, the Simplifying Access to Outdoor Recreation Act, the Recreation Not Red-Tape Act, the Gateway Community and Recreation Enhancement Act, the Federal Interior Lands Media Act, and the Biking on Long Distance Trails Act.

“The overwhelming support for these bills shows us the enthusiasm surrounding our public lands and outdoor recreation is strong and growing,” Manchin said. “This bipartisan package will make it easier for members of the public to access and enjoy our public lands as well as our rural businesses focused on outdoor recreation to thrive. The last time outdoor recreation legislation of this size and scale was enacted was 1963.”

The America’s Outdoor Recreation Act contains dozens of separate but related provisions aimed at expanding and enhancing outdoor recreation opportunities within federal lands managed by the National Park Service, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the Bureau of Reclamation, and the USDA Forest Service.

These provisions range from streamlining the permitting processes for guides operating on federal lands, to expanding broadband internet connectivity at recreation sites, to supporting public-private partnerships to expand parking facilities. The legislation also seeks to promote collaboration between federal agencies while working with gateway communities grappling with an unprecedented surge in tourism. Nearly 300 million people visited national parks in 2021, an increase of 60 million compared to the previous year.

WHAT NOW?
 
Last weekend I worked on the UL, changed out the pegs, checked the battery, mounted the tank. Ready to fire up minus the tune-up.

Charged the 2014 Indian, but it wouldn’t start. Thought I would try the key-fob battery the size of a quarter. It worked, and I took it for a ride.

When the Indian wouldn’t start, I shifted to the ’69 Panhead. I switched out the manual starter button with the Nash unit with a larger PUSH button. I’ll write a short tech on it next week. It’s very cool, but you will need to save your gasket.

I rolled it outside idling. Just as I reached for my gloves and glasses—no helmet law in South Dakota, I remembered that the master cylinder for the rear brake was empty. I scrambled to determine which DOT to use. I went with DOT 5, pumped that puppy and went for a ride.

Trying to get the shop painted this week, but mudding is creeping along. Keep your fingers crossed. We added a porthole just for the kicks, but needed a sleeve through the wall, which is 8 inches thick. We grappled with it like crazy, chasing various solutions and then it dawned on me. I called Tim Crandall, a welder fabricator in Spearfish. He helped with the bathroom porthole. We needed the same solution reversed and much larger. He’s on the case.

We picked up the 8-Man rail repair car from A&J welding. I also scored two 10-foot tracks, spikes and track plates. Now, we are pondering how to remove the car from the trailer and place it on the rails.

Buck Lovell, famous photog and past editor of Hot Bike Magazine, back in the day, is going to shoot the Pandemic for Cycle Source Magazine.

We will keep having fun until they come for us. I’ll keep fighting the good fight anyway I can. I reached out to the MRF again today.
