PRE ROLLING THUNDER THURSDAY NEWS FOR MAY 3, 2012

Hey,

Last night Ray and I rode over to BA Moto in Long Beach and met up with Gary, and the BA Moto gang, with Nate at the helm. It’s a classic shop, made of a group of young ex-dealer workers who put it all on the line to make their own thing fly. Yesterday, a gang of them were photographed for a series of Paul Mitchell commercials, and just recently they experienced their own race team effort at Willow Springs, sponsored by Scorpion Leathers. They are working hard to make it.

I didn’t mention something important. They are all about British bikes, new and old. Then we rode over to the notorious Long Beach Traffic Circle to a new tattoo parlor, Port City Tattoo, to meet my son, who may start working there a couple of days a week. It’s one of the sharpest tattoo parlors I’ve ever encountered. If you’re in Long Beach check it out, plus a hair salon is being built in the back.

Let’s hit the news and see what Ray has to say about his breakdown on the Salt Shaker.

AUSTRALIAN COPS SAY BIKER VIOLENCE WORST EVER– The police commissioner of the Australian state of Queensland says the current wave of violence linked by police to motorcycle clubs is the worst Queensland has ever seen.

On Saturday afternoon shoppers ran for cover when two people were shot at the busy Robina Town Centre shopping centre.

Mr Atkinson has described the incident as intolerable.

“If, as we believe now, that the woman who was shot is an innocent bystander, a completely innocent victim, I’m not aware in the past in Queensland where that’s ever happened,” he said.

“In a public place, with the use of a firearm, and potentially an innocent member of the public being shot, and other members of the public being terrorised and potentially put at risk, there is hardly a worst-case scenario than what we’ve seen this afternoon.”

Mr Atkinson says police will do everything possible to pursue those responsible.

The double shooting at Robina is the latest in a series of attacks across Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

This week businesses owned by the Bandidos and the Hells Angels were targeted and shots were also fired into a clubhouse of the Gypsy Jokers at Everton Hills.

Police say they have had little cooperation from the clubs.

On Friday, Queensland Police Minister Jack Dempsey issued a blunt warning that the violence will not be tolerated.

“If you don’t want to change your habits you’ll be going to jail,” he said.

But on Saturday morning Professor Paul Wilson from Bond University said police should focus on individual club members.

“They have to concentrate clearly on those individuals within clubs which have been involved in the violence,” he said.

“Taking on entire clubs is not a particularly useful way of doing it. I think there is every reason to target individuals within motorcycle clubs who commit crimes and the police certainly have been trying to do that for some time.”

THE DEVILS RIDE premiere episode is now available to stream on Discovery’s press site!

Premieres on TUESDAY, MAY 8TH at 10pm ET/PT following an all new DEADLIEST CATCH

View a ROUGH CUT of the premiere episode here: http://press.discovery.com/us/dsc/programs/devils-ride/videos/streaming/

You can also check out our on-air promo for THE DEVILS RIDE:
Watch Online: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NTgk-7j1qo

THE DEVILS RIDE sports a diverse crew but one bonded by a commitment to each other and the club. Meet Laffing Devils president Gipsy, who must balance the club’s growing ranks with pressure from older members to maintain the status quo. An ex-Marine who served in Iraq, Gipsy credits the club for helping him deal with the emotional scars of war. Then there’s club VP, Billy the Kid, who waits in the wings wondering if he’ll have the chance to lead the Laffing Devils. And younger member Snubz breaks all the biker stereotypes with his degree in finance and a full time corporate job.

THE DEVILS RIDE finds the Laffing Devils not only in open conflict internally but also at risk of losing their homebase. The Laffing Devils’ unofficial headquarters is the auto body shop owned by fellow member Hawkster but police pressure might force the club to find a new home. Moving is going to cost the club money so Gipsy seeks out security work for the Laffing Devils guarding a liquor store in a very dangerous part of town. Will their new responsibilities pit the club against one another?

THE DEVILS RIDE also covers what would-be members must do to prove themselves to the club before they can be “patched in.” In order to earn his spot, prospect Charles is out on an official club task of protecting some of the club’s wives and girlfriends, or “Ol’ Ladies” on a night out. When a pushy photographer gets too close for comfort, blood boils and the situation gets physical. Will Charles’ actions protecting the women earn him the respect of the young blood and, more importantly, earn him his cut?

May is Women Riders Month: Enter the WRN Giveaway!–  Your chance to win a Scorpion jacket and helmet–The month of May is Women Riders Month, and Women Riders Now is celebrating by giving you a chance to win a cool women’s jacket and helmet from Scorpion. Women Riders Month is a month of women-focused events and rides aimed at showing the public that more ladies than ever are enjoying the freedom of riding motorcycles.

Dealerships around the United States will be holding women’s events and group rides in support of Women Riders Month. Kicking it all off is International Female Ride Day on May 4, a synchronized global movement that asks women riders to get out on the streets on their two-wheelers and show the world that women love to ride their own.

WRN is celebrating Women Riders Month with a giveaway that will also help us learn more about our readers (that’s you!) and what they want to see on this site. How to enter? Simply complete a survey about WRN, and upon completing it, you’ll be entered to win a Scorpion Lilly Jacket and matching Lilly Helmet. Go to this survey page to enter the giveaway. The survey and giveaway expire on May 31, 2012. Only one entry per person, please.

Women Riders Month started in 2010, when Harley-Davidson consolidated some of its women’s outreach efforts into the month of May, declaring it Women Riders Month. While Women Riders Month may have been initiated by the iconic brand, it’s meant to celebrate women who ride all brands of motorcycles, not just Harley-Davidson. All women riders—regardless of what make, model or type of motorcycling they enjoy—are encouraged to participate in and organize events during the month.

Now in its third year, the event has a dedicated page on the Motor Company’s Web site that lists all Harley-Davidson dealership activities that will be held in celebration. New this year is an interactive page called the Buzz Wall, featuring stories submitted by women from around the world explaining why they ride or why they want to learn to ride. Women can share their stories by using the hashtag #harleywomen on Twitter or by uploading their stories to the Women Riders page on Harley-Davidson’s Web site. The Buzz Wall will be showcased through June 15, 2012.

WRN has its own Reader Stories section, where you can read stories from other women riders or share your own. So help us celebrate Women Riders Month by filling out our survey. Not only will you be helping us continue to bring you the latest and greatest news in women and motorcycling—you might just be our lucky winner.

Just click on the WRN logo at the top of this page to go there.–Bandit

PROGRESSIVE SUSPENSION SHOCK TOOL–David Zelma stopped into the Bikernet Interplanetary Headquarters to assist with Mudflap Girl Suspension tuning. We went from 75 level springs in the Progressive Suspension shocks to 90, then 120. “This maybe an FXR, but these shocks are leaned over like a Dyna,” David said. We may end up using Dyna shocks.

He brought this exceedingly helpful tool for dismantling shocks. With this we could change springs all day long.

NEW BIKERNET READER COMMENT–
THE REAL LAUGHLIN WEEKEND THURSDAY NEWS FOR APRIL 26, 2012

Concerning the blown 6-speed trannys. I’ve ran a Haydan M6 chain tensioner for many years, 32,000+ miles, 5-speed Evo, no problems… Could be the spring-loaded tensioner in it, don’t think the Harley tensioner has a spring set-up like the Haydan. Would like to hear more about this!

We haven’t run into any problems with 5-speed H-D transmissions. We will keep you posted, as we find out more about the 6-speed main bearings and chain adjusters. A rumor has also surfaced regarding the late-model compensating sprockets.–Wrench

THE UNCLE MONKEY ON THE PROJECT BLUES–Is it worth it? From time to time, we run it to that situation. A project comes along, and we must ask is it really worth tackling the project. We have the technology and the know-how but the time, effort, and cost of resurrecting a project far exceed what it would cost to simply replace it.

Most of us work hard for the things we buy. We know how long it has taken for us to get it and we go out of our way to ensure that what we have we will keep for a long time, aind it will always look new. It is maintained, repaired, worn out parts are replaced and rebuilt. But we still find people who are more then happy to trash a Harley, a car, a guitar, beating it mercilessly into the ground, not the usual rebel rousing but utterly destroying something, someone else might save a whole lifetime for.

Now it sits before us, beaten and abused. Little is salvageable. It is not a quick fix, it’s not even logical to fix, but the price is right and the nameplate, the brand and the prestige that it once held is still there, burnt away in a blaze of glory. We pull the money from our pocket and load it into the back of the truck. It finds a new home in the corner of the garage, sometimes-collecting dust for years.

We know it is there; we keep out an eye and pick up a part here, knowledge there. Sometimes we get ambitious and pull it out and strip it down, always amazed at the abuse that was heaped onto it only to put the parts in boxes and bags and put them back on the shelf. We work on it in spurts, filling time on lazy Sunday afternoons, or when the old lady is out running errands.

Years later it is finished, finally done. It has cost us more than it would have cost to buy a new one, but we built it with the spare change in our pockets. It is customized, tweaked, and modified, sometimes barely resembling what we started with. We smile. It has taken everything we’ve known, taken us time to learn how to do things to finish it. Is it worth it? Goddamn right it is!

BIKERS AND UNIONS OPPOSE ANIT-ASSOCIATION BILL–  Bikers, union officials and social justice groups met in Western Australia last night to oppose a State Government bill which makes it illegal for people in declared criminal organizations to associate with each other.

Headed by the United Motorcycle Council of WA, 25 groups are part of the movement trying to stop the passage of the Criminal Organization Control bill through Parliament.

The Government is expected to approve the bill soon.

The Socialist Alliance’s Alex Bainbridge says the bill challenges basic human rights.

“If someone’s committed a crime, fair enough, they should be punished for that,” he said.

“What this bill is going to punish [is] people who are friends or associates, who come into contact with, people who have committed no crime themselves so that’s a real fundamental injustice.

“And, it wouldn’t matter if it was just bikies who are going to be affected by that.

“An injustice against anyone is something everyone should stand up against.”

The Civil Liberties Council’s David Pugh says the legislation is outdated and unjust.

“They’re bringing in retired judges who have the title of designated authorities. and a designated authority with secret tainted evidence can declare an organization to be an outlaw organization,” he said.

The United Motorcycle Council of WA’s Peter Godfree says the proposed legislation has not been thoroughly considered.

“It does definitely need to be scrutinised and looked at by a committee, that would be the best solution of all; if Parliament was to refer it a committee to have it looked at before they voted on it,” he said.

The UMCWA’s Eric Meehan says it is not just motorbike groups concerned about the proposed legislation.

“I hope that the Government will take this into consideration; that these people are genuinely concerned for the public of Western Australia and not just about the biker organisations, as they suspect,” he said.

In a statement, the Attorney General said the legislation is extremely important to ensure the safety of all West Australians.

He says the laws will not affect organizations that do not engage in criminal activity.

Similar laws have failed in other states.

RUN TO THE WALL– Shane from Aberdeen S.D. here again. I was just wondering if there is anyone planning a group ride into DC, May 14 or 15?

It would be great to hook up with someone before I hit the mountains or anywhere east of Missouri for that matter. I should be in Columbia Missouri about Sunday May 13. From there it’s all new riding territory for me.

MAY MOTORCYCLE AWARENESS MONTH ALERT–The American Motorcyclist Association urges extra precautions during May: Motorcycle Awareness Month.

The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is urging all road users to look around, check your mirrors, and consciously watch for motorcycles during Motorcycle Awareness Month in May 2012.

Through legislative and gubernatorial proclamations around the country, May has been declared Motorcycle Awareness Month. The outreach to remind road users to share the road with motorcyclists and make a conscious effort to look for them is an annual effort by the motorcycling community, particularly since in many states few motorcycles were on the road in the winter and early spring months.

The AMA request follows the association’s successful “Get Out And Ride!” Month of April, which encouraged motorcyclists everywhere to enjoy the passion and excitement of motorcycling in the dirt and on the street. Each week during AMA Get Out and Ride! Month, the AMA focused on a special motorcycling theme, from riding solo to riding with others to riding for a cause to riding smartly.

“Motorcyclists take to the highways in large numbers every spring, and it’s the responsibility of all road users to acknowledge us safely and attentively,” said AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman. “This is why many states and local governments officially promote motorcycle awareness during the month of May.

“Unfortunately, many road users are not always mindful of those with whom they share the road, and an annual reminder is helpful for them to recognize the flow of motorcycles in traffic, and make an extra efforts to watch for motorcycles,” Dingman said.

“One of the leading causes of motorcycle crashes is the fact that drivers don’t see motorcycles,” he said. “Simply put, drivers tell themselves to watch for cars, trucks, buses and pedestrians, but they don’t tell always themselves to watch for motorcycles. We want to change that.”

Drivers can avoid crashes with motorcyclists by taking extra care to watch for motorcyclists, especially at intersections, respecting the motorcyclists’ space on the road and by not following too closely.

“If all drivers would make a conscious effort to look twice before turning left across the oncoming lane of traffic at an intersection, crashes could be prevented and lives would be saved,” Dingman said.

For motorcyclists, the AMA strongly encourages the use of personal protective equipment — including gloves, sturdy footwear and a properly fitted motorcycle helmet certified by its manufacturer to meet theU.S. Department of Transportation standard — as part of a comprehensive motorcycle safety program to help reduce injuries and fatalities in the event of a motorcycle crash.

The AMA has long encouraged local and state governments to maintain or increase funding for motorcycle rider education and motorist awareness programs — two highly effective strategies to reduce the likelihood of motorcycle crashes.

The AMA also successfully lobbied for a new study into the causes of motorcycle crashes, which will be the first such comprehensive research in 30 years. The Federal Highway Administration has undertaken a crash causation study at the Oklahoma Transportation Center, an independent and well-respected transportation research facility at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla. The study is expected to conclude in a year or two. For more information, please visit www.AmericanMotorcyclist.com

5-BALL RACING WHEELER REPORT–

Holy shit Batman what a week in the belly of the beast. Jody Perewitz ran a shake down 184 mph pass in the midst of a rainy, windy Ohio weekend on a flat ass, smooth, no salt, no dirt, airport runway during the first ECTA Ohio Mile.

Andrew Hines cut a perfect light to take the win light over Hector Arana Jr. in Woodburn, Oregon, by about 2 feet in the NHRA, leading the points race. One of my heroes, The Michigan Madman E J Potter rides into the future. Racing for Vets, Verl Smith is loaded for bear, look out! Woodburn was the first stop.

Hang on to your ass this weeks news is on the way.

97- Inch Twin Cam rebuild

My 97-inch Twin Cam Dyna will be running this weekend in San Jose after a major transplant. In last weeks Chapter 6, 5-Ball racing report you’ll find tons of information on the build. We expect images and more from San Jose this week end including heat cycles, oil changes, dyno tuning and extensive over the road testing. Perfect.

Thanks to a young man named Brad, Tech support at CCI in Morgan Hill, we’re gathering a detailed step-by-step tech article/install for our CCI 97-inch cylinder kit.

5-Ball Racing 124-inch Turbo Raycer, Salem, Oregon

Rick has our one off Bonneville frame laid out on his precision table. Wednesday morning Rick picked up a set of tubing dies and a friend delivered a couple of inner-coolers to work with. Last week Steve from Turbo Doc in Ogden, Utah shipped Rick a mock up Series 66 Aerocharger to make the project a tad easier.

This week at Bikernet headquarters in Wilmington, CA we received a programmed-for-a-turbo Daytona Twin Tec 3-bar computer and a Rivera Pro clutch to handle the expected power.

With scheduled shake down passes at the Mojave Mile on our 5-Ball Team Raycer June 3 and 4 we’re cutti’n it damned close or will it be just in time?

The past weekend in Salem was spent finishing Smitty’s hot rod for a trip to the dyno and the Woodburn drag strip the 19th and 20th. This bike is bad ass from axel to axel. Look for high 8 second passes or faster in Woodburn.

Yesterday evening the Bandit lit a fire under his latest FXR while the Salt Shaker warmed up for a ride into Long Beach where we met Gary Mraz at one of the best kept Triumph shops in SoCal. Reminds me of my misspent youth living in similar situations, shop to shop, ex’s, sweethearts, drag strips and race tracks.

Check these men out at www.bamoto.com.

E J Potter. Michigan Madman Cut a near perfect light and Hauled Ass to the big drag strip…………

Elon Jack Potter, better known to hot rodders the world over as “EJ” or “The Michigan Madman” died on April 30th, 2012 in Ithaca, Michigan. EJ was 71 years old. Normally, I write these obituaries in as news-like a manner as I can, but this one really hurts. I cannot claim to have been a friend of EJ Potter’s but I did have occasion to speak with him several times for stories and other projects I have worked on.

I count him as one of my biggest hot rodding heroes and he was a man known to people in one form or another, all over the globe. Most knew him from his exploits on the series of Widowmaker Chevy V8 motorcycles he rode through the 1960s and early 1970s. Many knew him from his other creations, which included a trike powered by a cruise missile engine, several Allison powered cars, and a raft of nationally known pulling tractors that were called, the “Ugly Tractor” and “Double Ugly”.

He was one of the country’s foremost experts on Allison aircraft engines and at one time owned hundreds of them. He sold them off to airplane racers, pullers, and others over time. He had a business selling snow melting machines in recent years and about a decade ago he released a book and film about his life. I own both of those items and I will be spending some time with them over the next few days.

Throwing all manner of professionalism and decorum out the window here, this truly sucks. While Potter’s career is the stuff of comic book heroes, his passing signifies a sad end to an era in both motorsports and society where a guy with a crazy idea could make a hell of a living. Today, there are no more EJ Potters because the world has snuffed ‘em out with red tape, lawsuits, bicycle helmets, knee pads, helicopter parents, anti-lock brakes, traction control, electronic stability control, and general enslavement to insurance companies.
I’ll leave you with a link to our feature on EJ Potter and a couple of my favorite quotes from the man. His loss is a true heart breaker for us and for the world of hot rodding as a whole. He was a crazy empirical genius of the type that are no longer manufactured. God, this sucks to write.

LINK: The BangShift EJ Potter Interview
“The acceleration would be real noticeable and the vibrations, bumps, and engine noises would stop registering. It got kinda mental. It would feel like I was doing something that was not supposed to be even possible, because from the time I drew that first picture in school of the Chevy and two wheels, nobody I ever talked to about it ever thought it was possible, and more to the point, nobody thought I could do it.

So here I am going real fast, real smooth, all by myself approaching a place that no one else could, at that time, get to.”

“Ignorance is a powerful tool if applied at the right time, even usually surpassing knowledge.”

The month of May, one of my favorites, is shaping up quite nicely on all fronts. My three sons and their families are healthy and gainfully employed. My Dyna is damn near on the road and our 5-Ball Raycer is nearing the Mojave Mile starting line.
Stay tuned and look for your 5-Ball Racing Team on the Mojave Mile race track and on the Bonneville salt flats at the BUB Speed Trials in August.

To all of our supporting crew and sponsors a heart felt Thank You.

CHOPPERS INC. WEBSITE FIXED!–Once again Billy Lane parts are available. I just thought I’d send you an update: we’ve finally gotten the Choppers Inc. website fully updated, with current contact info, a video gallery, and links to the new Choppers Inc. on-line store. www.choppersinc.com

As you mentioned in your e-mail a few months ago, the circle is now complete. But there’s still so much to do.

It’s been a fun and challenging endeavor to begin rebuilding the business; but as you know, without the support of Billy’s many loyal friends and fans, it would be next-to-impossible. The response on Facebook has been incredibly encouraging, and our Choppers Inc. sales are growing steadily.

We’re especially excited about the unveiling of Billy’s USAF tribute bike at the Rolling Thunder rally in DC at the end of the month; and some of us will be attending many of the Rolling Thunder events there. It’s going to be an amazing weekend.

Rivera Primo Shifts the 15th Anniversary Giveaway Chopper, Sponsored by XPress Lid into Gear–Win the XPress Lid Custom Chopper from Bikernet.com & Cycle Source Magazine

Rivera Primo is providing a PowerDrive 6-speed transmission for the Bikernet/Cycle Source 15th Anniversary Giveaway Chopper, sponsored by XPress Lid and Spectro Oil, which is being awarded at the Las Vegas Bikefest this fall.

The Rivera Primo PowerDrive 6-speed transmission features a 2-year unlimited mileage replacement guarantee and the backing of almost 40 years of the best customer service in the industry. The softail-styled unit comes in polished, chrome or black wrinkle finish. Gear ratios are set at a close-ratio 2.94:1 first gear; second gear 2.21; third gear 1.60, fourth gear 1.23; fifth gear 1.00, 0.860:1 overdrive sixth gear, which means it pulls when you need it and delivers exception MPG when cruising.

“Builders that hot rod Harleys, know that 6 speed PowerDrive trannys from this West Coast manufacturer, Rivera Primo, are quality units that provide smooth, reliable and consistent shifts, said Chris Callen,” Editor of Cycle Source Magazine.

The PowerDrive 6-speed transmission when snicked into sixth gear will drop our rpm a good 500 points when compared to a 5 speed and will also smooth out the ride when we are cruising at 75 and greater mph.

“Our quality, performance tested transmissions looks good on the outside, but it is the special sauce on the inside that’s the real thing of beauty, explained Ben Kudon, RPI Executive Director. “Packed into the case are six forged gears, which are all back cut for durability and easy shifting.”

Cycle Source Magazine and Bikernet.com are showcasing the build from the ground up. Each month Cycle Source Magazine will run an article from the build team. Videos and additional articles are hosted at www.Bikernet.com and www.winthechopper.com.

Product sponsors for the Bikernet/Cycle Source 15th Anniversary Giveaway Chopper include Rivera Primo Inc., 3 Guyz, ACCEL Motorcycles, Aeromach USA, Biker’s Choice, Barnett Clutches, Bell Helmets, Crazy Horse Motorcycles, D&D Exhaust, Evil Engineering, Fab Kevin, Hawg Halters, Grip Ace, Rocking K Custom Leathers, Spectro Performance Oils, Texas Bike Works, Wire Plus and XPress Lid by SmartCup.

BIKERNET SPONSORS RIPS B.A.D. RIDE–American Diabetes Presents 15th Annual Rips B.A.D Ride – SUNDAY JULY 1st, 2012 – ORANGE COUNTY GREAT PARK, Irvine CA
Santa Ana, CA Rip’s B.A.D. Ride (Bikers Against Diabetes) is a nation-wide motorcycle charity event presented by the American Diabetes Association.

The event began 15 years ago in Southern California when Rip Rose, a journalist for Easyriders magazine, approached the American Diabetes Association with a proposal to bring bikers together in an organized event to fight diabetes. The Ride has grown from a few hundred bikers raising a few thousand dollars to one of Southern California’s most successful motorcycle charity events, drawing thousands of riders and raising over $3,500,000 since its inception. The Ride is attended each year by celebrity riders such as Larry Hagman, Cast members of Sons of Anarchy and has the support of Willie G. and Karen Davidson of Harley-Davidson Motorcycles.

Rip’s dream was to take the Ride to a national level event and, in his words, “keep doing this until we don’t have to do it anymore.” There are currently BAD Rides in several markets across the nation. Rip passed away in 2000. His legacy lives on each year as Rip’s B.A.D. Ride unites the biker community nationwide to continue the fight to cure diabetes and improve the lives of those affected by diabetes.

15 Years Later
To commemorate 15 years, we have made some incredible changes and additions to the event. Our new date of July 1st will allow an Americana Patriotic theme. This event starts with an All wheel friendly escorted ride which departs from 8 carefully selected motorcycle dealerships and restaurants.

Since it is escorted, it looks like a parade on the roads and entering the venue. This year’s ride will culminate onto the Orange County Great Park in Irvine, CA. formally the El Toro Marine Air Base. Look for the Orange Hot Air Balloon Ride which rises to 40 feet in the air and is visible from the 5 Freeway. Other entertainment includes: a Live Concert, Custom Bike Show, Gourmet Food Trucks by Food Smack Down, Comedian, Vendor Village. Auction and an A.D.A Health Pavilion offering screenings and educating bikers on Diabetes. Military Color Guard will be presenting the colors and any active military rider will get in free with ID. Their antique World War II Air Hanger will be used for our VIP Lounge – VIP’s raise $500 or more for A.D.A.

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER FINDINGS–Berries for the Brain Eating blueberries and strawberries regularly seems to help protect the brain from the effects of aging. This latest good news about the health benefits of berries comes from researchers at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

Investigators gathered information on food consumption among participants in the long-running U.S. Nurses’ Health Study and looked at data recorded between 1995 and 2001 on cognitive function – the ability to think, remember and reason – of just over 16,000 of the women participants, all over 70. They checked the volunteers twice at an interval of two years.

The upshot? A link between eating more than one half-cup serving of blueberries per week or two half-cups of strawberries a week and a 2.5 year delay in cognitive aging. Berries contain anthocyanidin, an antioxidant that can cross the blood-brain barrier and have beneficial activity in brain areas responsible for memory and learning. Earlier studies have found that berries and other fruits containing antioxidants called flavonoids (anthocyanidin is a particular type of flavonoid) can reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancers.

Another group of Harvard researchers recently found that berries also appear to reduce the risk of Parkinson’s disease in men.

My take? Here’s further evidence that blueberries are good for us. Last year, blueberries came out on top in a comparison of the antioxidant capacity of 40 different types of fruits and vegetables at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Center on Aging at Tufts University. While it is unrealistic to expect blueberries – or anything else – to reverse aging, they are a healthy low glycemic-index carbohydrate and a good source of vitamin C and fiber (two grams per one-half cup serving). They also provide ellagic acid, a compound which inhibits tumor growth in laboratory mice. And, like cranberries, blueberries contain a substance that can help prevent urinary tract infections by interfering with the attachment of bacteria to the bladder wall.

ATTIKA 7 to Release Debut Full-Length Album ‘Blood Of My Enemies’ on July 31, 2012 with Rocket Science Ventures–In 2011, a shattering force comprised of diversified heavy metal veterans arose amongst the hills of California, rapidly emerging as new, refreshed musical project ATTIKA 7. Poised to bludgeon up the charts past today’s stark contemporaries, the fan-dubbed “super group” is set to release their debut full-length album, Blood of My Enemies on July 31, 2012 with Rocket Science Ventures in the United States.

ATTIKA 7 features ex-Biohazard vocalist Evan Seinfeld, lead guitarist, notable songwriter and famed (Sons of Anarchy) motorcycle builder Rusty Coones, and bassist Tony Campos, founding member of Static X, who also currently performs in Soulfly, Prong, Possessed, Asesino andMinistry. ATTIKA 7 combines evil sounding riffs, melodic vocal lines, with old school guitar solos and undeniable grooves into a sonic frenzy of outlaw biker counter culture.

“As I embarked on my journey of musical and personal reinvention, the first step was to put together a band of incredible players, with diverse styles and a unified vision to write, record and perform timeless heavy metal, backed by an authentic outlaw lifestyle,” states vocalist Evan Seinfeld. “Second, was to write and demo songs from our hearts and then to align ourselves with an amazing team in Rocket Science/THC for our debut release. Between Kevin, Thom, and the whole RS family, we feel such a strong sense of support and commitment from the label and we are stoked that we have real partners in helping us to launch the ATTIKA 7 Army.”

The band recorded Blood of My Enemies with legendary producer MUDROCK (Avenged Sevenfold, Godsmack). Blood of My Enemies is a brutal slab of unrelenting hard rock, with the initial groundwork laid by guitarist Rusty Coones in the confines of a federal penitentiary. It was in this unforgiving environment that he penned the songs that would eventually become the band’s uncompromising debut.

Vocalist Evan Seinfeld recently retired from Brooklyn’s Biohazard, a band he formed in his teenage years. “After 10 albums and probably around 4000 concerts with Biohazard across 90 countries spanning 25 years, all I can say is that the only thing constant in life is change, and without it, things can become stagnant and repetitious. The creative situation for me playing with Rusty and Tony inATTIKA 7 fosters my genuine creativity to flow, and allowed us to build something heavy, authentic, new and exciting from the ground up. ATTIKA 7 is something I am beyond passionate about and so excited – Blood of My Enemies is THE album in my opinion.”

ATTIKA 7 will take to the road this summer with an ‘in your face’ live show combining all that is good in life: Bikes, Girls and Rock n Roll. Stay tuned for tour dates coming soon.

TIMES UP, GOTTA GO–I need to peel. Keep an eye on Bikernet Trikes and Bikernet Baggers, for new stories, road tests, Midnight Rider features, techs, you name it.

I have a feeling we unleased the giant, or a horde of rats. Even Genevieve Schmitt is witnessing new growth at Women’s Riders Now and rebuilding her site.

The story behind the Marlboro Man bike is headed to Bikernet, along with a hefty tech on the RevTech 97 or 103-inch engine upgrade, and another D&D Exhaust install. Plus, I’m working on another Cantina Episode with Chris Kallas Mudflap Girl art. No sex, just a guy trying to draw and have a beer in the Cantina.

Ray covered our Bonneville effort, but he missed the Bonne Belle. I’m waiting for the engine from Departure Bike Works, and a handful of parts from Biker’s Choice. I need to make a top motor mount, and pipes, then everything can go to Tony’s powder factory. I’m damn close.

Have a helluva weekend.

Ride Forever,

-Bandit
