I had a notion a few years back about clubs getting together, stopping the bullshit, and then starting a WWF type of organization where the various clubs would compete in the ring, and make money. It could be amazing and very profitable for the bros.
We are working a deal to become a sponsor of the 2015 Bonneville Speed Trials. You will see the program in the near future. Hell, clubs could compete on lots of levels and take it all to television and ultimately to film in the form of movies. Instead of NBC it could become NMC.

BDL SAVES SHOVELHEADS— I noticed a new system from BDL to allow Shovel owner to ditch the old starters and starter solenoids. They were such a pain in the ass. With a later starter system Shovels can be almost as reliable as any Evo.
Here’s an example from Lucky Devil Metal Works in Houston. “This one is running a bdl 3-inch open belt for a Shovel with a tapered shaft tranny,” said Kent Weeks from Luck Devil. “They have a sharp sealed bearing in the hub so it’s an upgrade. I like to use this anytime I can for older projects, getting clients to keep up with clutch adjustments on the old style stuff is not fun to say the least. Haha!”
MONGOLS UNDER ATTACK IN LOS ANGELES– Feds go after motorcycle gang members – by claiming rights to their logo
The trademarked logo of Southern California’s largest motorcycle gang is unmistakable: a black-and-white image of 12th Century conqueror Genghis Khan, wearing sunglasses and bell bottoms riding a chopper while carrying a sword. For the club’s 600 fully patched members, the logo is part of their identity and motto: “Mongols Forever, Forever Mongols.”
But today, the Mongols Nation trademark is the focus of U.S. prosecutors’ effort to dismantle America’s most violent motorcycle gangs, from the Mongols to those who shot up a Waco, restaurant over the weekend.
The Department of Justice considers the clubs a criminal enterprise and is asking a federal judge to make it illegal for Mongols members to wear the patch or even display the name — allowing cops to literally take a Mongols jacket right off a biker’s back.
“It not just stripping them of their identity, or robbing them of a recruiting tool, it’s taking the star off their helmet,” said a law enforcement source in Los Angeles. “The logo itself furthers a criminal enterprise.”
The importance of the patch should not be underestimated. Donald Charles Davis, author of “Aging Rebel: Dispatches From The Motorcycle Outlaw Frontier,” adds, “Men have literally died for those patches. They have great symbolic value to motorcycle club members in the same way that the American flag has great symbolic value to patriots.”
The Mongol Nation registered their trademark in 2005 with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Unknown to the club at the time, four undercover agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms had infiltrated the gang.
In 2008, the ATF issued 110 arrest warrants in four states, accusing club members of murder, drug trafficking, robbery, extortion and money laundering. As part of a plea deal, the club president forfeited rights to the Mongol trademark to the Department of Justice, and a federal judge granted an injunction prohibiting club members from wearing, licensing, selling, or distributing the any materials depicting the Mongolian warrior.
At the time, only Uncle Sam was legally entitled to wear the Mongols’ leather vest — known as a “cut” — as a jacket without sleeves.
Federal Judge Florence-Marie Cooper ruled that upon presentation of the court’s order by police, “defendants and all their agents, servants, employees, family members, and other persons in active participation with them, must surrender all products, clothing, vehicles, motorcycles, books, posters, merchandise, stationery, or other materials bearing the Mongols trademark.”
While another judge partially lifted that injunction a few years later, Uncle Sam and the Mongol Nation are headed back to federal court June 2 in Los Angeles to reargue the case and determine who now owns the trademark.
The Mongols mount a First Amendment defense, arguing in court papers the “government’s sole purpose in filing the indictment is to crush the Mongols Nation Motorcycle Club by seizing the intellectual rights to the ‘Rider’ and ‘Mongol’ marks and thereby quash the Club and its members rights to freedom of expression and association.”
Davis said “all other clubs” see this as “just a first step to what the government wants to do to all motorcycle clubs. They wanna outlaw motorcycle clubs by taking their insignia away from them.”
To Davis, the DOJ actions are “unprecedented and unconstitutional.” He said the Mongol’s insignia is a “collective membership mark” that’s “on a par with the Christian cross, the Masonic compass, or the Jewish star.”
Government lawyers disagree, claiming the motorcycle club “constitutes an ongoing criminal enterprise” subject to the same statute prosecutors used to dismantle organized crime families like the Mafia.
The federal Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organization Act (RICO) allows the government to seize cars, houses, boats and any assets used to further illegal activity. In the Mongols case, that includes their logo. If prosecutors prevail, the “Mongols” name and image will belong solely to Uncle Sam. Violating such a trademark would be considered a civil violation.
After the Mongols, sources say prosecutors would hope to use the same technique against other “OMG’s” — outlaw motorcycle gangs like the Hells Angels, the Outlaws in the Midwest, the Pagans in the East, the Bandidos in Texas and others.

LUCAS OIL RIDER, HECTOR ARANA SR. RETURNS TO THE WINNER’S CIRCLE–
The old man’s still got it.
Lucas Oil Buell racer Hector Arana Sr., still running strong at age 56, stormed to a triumphant victory at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals on Sunday at Atlanta Dragway. The win came nearly six years after his previous victory and it came against Pro Stock Motorcycle’s best.
Arana beat defending class champion Andrew Hines in the first round before knocking off No. 2 qualifier Jim Underdahl in the second. Then he beat son and national speed record-holder Hector Jr. in the semifinals before taking down three-time PSM champion Eddie Krawiec in the final round.
“It’s exactly what I needed to boost me up,” Arana said. “I struggled for a little bit and then I started getting doubts, but I never gave up and here it is, this win. It’s exactly what I needed to build my confidence and keep going forward to win some more.”
Arana, who made his NHRA debut in 1990, upped his career record to 197-196, marking the first time he’s had a winning mark in the sport.
Arana toiled in the PSM class for many years before partnering with Forrest and Charlotte Lucas and Lucas Oil Products. He earned his first win in 2008 and then won five more times in 2009, capping a remarkable year with the championship.
He raced to 11 final rounds in the years since, including racing Hector Jr. in Chicago in 2014, but was unable to break through again until Sunday to end a drought of 86 races.
“It makes me feel great for everyone on our team,” Arana said. “I take care of Jr.’s bikes first and then mine. What I did for this event, I paid more attention to my bike, to my program. That’s what I need to do more of, take care of me.”
Arana opened the day by outrunning Hines with a pass of 6.915 seconds at 195.70 mph, overcoming Hines’ 6.979-second pass at 184.27 mph. He duplicated that e.t. in the second round against Underdahl, who ran 7.022 seconds at 192.52 mph.
The semifinal matchup with his son was over before the finish line, as Hector Jr. slowed to a pass of 7.146 seconds at 168.14 mph while Arana’s run was 6.930 at 195.22 mph.
Neither finalist made a full run, but Krawiec was off the throttle well before the lights in a 10.107-second pass at 85.28 mph while Arana pulled up early in a winning pass of 7.236 seconds at 162.47 mph.
“We were able to stay consistent on every run,” Arana said. “We didn’t deviate that much, so we have a good tune-up. It looks like my bike is coming around at the right time. We’re going to keep looking forward and narrow this bike to be perfect.”
OREGON SENATE PASSES LANE SPLITTING BILL– Oregon motorcycle riders are one step closer to splitting lanes thanks to SB 694. The bill, which would legalize lane splitting under specific traffic conditions, passed 18-10 in the state Senate with bipartisan support, and now moves on to the Oregon House for debate and a final approval vote or amendment.
The measure would allow lane splitting when traffic is stopped or slowed to 10 mph or less, with motorcycle riders allowed to split lanes not in excess of 20 mph. Lane splitting is only permitted on roads 50 mph or higher and forbidden between lanes going in opposite directions.
During the committee discussion that sent the bill to the Senate floor, lawmakers complimented advocates for the legislation. “It’s been some of the most effective citizen lobbying I’ve seen on a bill,” said Senator Sara Gelser (D). “It was persistent, helpful, useful and fact-based and I really appreciated it.”
Another committee member, Senator Ginny Burdick (D), also said of the measure: “I can’t remember a time when I’ve ever been more opposed to a bill, then turned around and supported it. The advocates on this did a very nice job.”

SCOTT JACOBS AND WIFE SHARON PLANNING FOR THE NEXT CANNONBALL IN 2016– In 2010, a good friend of mine, Cris Sommer-Simmons was doing a vintage motorcycle race across the country on a 1915 Harley. I didn’t know much about it then, but thought it sounded like an incredible adventure.
In 2012, my husband, Scott Jacobs decided to do the race himself, and I figured I would ride along on my new Harley. Not only had I never ridden a foot clutch or tank shift bike before, I had never ridden any bike 4000 miles at one time. When I saw and felt the bond between the riders, I knew that I wanted to be a part of it next time.
We started looking for bikes that met the criteria for 2014, and found not one, but two 1936 HD VLH bikes. I chose the 3-speed instead of the 4-speed, and after having it completely restored, I learned how to ride it. That was the easy part.
Day 1 – Seized my pistons! Day 2 – Replaced the pistons with over 70s in an 80 bore, and managed to finish that day! Day 3 – Seized my pistons!!! Yes, really. Thankfully, because we had the other ’36, we stripped the top end, and overnighted it to the hotel. My mechanics changed everything out within 3 hours.
Unfortunately, I had lost two full days because we had to wait until Monday to ship, so although I was out of contention, I wanted to finish what I started. I crossed the finish line after 17 days, (the last 12 days with a perfect score) and not only was it a physical accomplishment, but also an emotional and personal victory!
When Lonnie announced the 2016 Century Race, I started looking for the next machine to conquer this feat. Watch me in 2016 where I’ll be riding a 1915 Harley-Davidson F11 with my wonderful and supportive Cannonball Family. Can’t wait!!!

CLUB SHOOTOUT COMMENT– Come on guys, get your shit together. If you want to battle each other in your clubhouse, a bar you run or out in a field somewhere none of us have a problem with that. But, when you bring it into a place where there is a chance civilians including children could be injured or killed you cross the line.
Put Joe McAverage and his family in harms way and they have every right to expect protection by police. And if one of your members was shot by police they probably brought it on themselves. So, man up and take responsibility.
You initiated the event and own anything that happens after that. Got a beef with each other? Cool, have a Bar B-Q out in the hills somewhere and do what you think needs to be done, but when you cause others to become involved and then threaten to take a hit out on those who were doing their job trying to protect them you’re no longer a brother and deserve no respect.
We’re all Americans and like them or not we don’t shoot the badge.
Bikes and bike people have been my family and in my blood for nearly seven decades. I have many friends in clubs and always had respect for most of the clubs that ride on the edge doing their own thing. But events like this cast a shadow over all of us who ride. So, and this is just my opinion, if you have to deal with something between clubs that’s cool but keep it among yourselves and I’ll back your right to do so.

JIMS No. 33443-84 alignment tool was originally used to align the tappet blocks with the oil feed port and ensure that the tappets roll true on the cam lobes for Late Shovelhead and all Evolution engines with ¼”-20 screws.
When Twin Cam engines were new, it was discovered that two of these will align the oil pump to the cam support plate and pinion shaft. Since there are various uses for this tool, most H-D technicians should have two of these in their collection.

THE SALT TORPEDO UPDATE– I am already getting busy on getting our paint booth up and running, and the air for the mechanic shop so I can get tires mounted and such.
I took a little time to set up the seat for the streamliner to make sure we made the right choice.
Fortunately, it looks like it will work out well, as I hoped the top of the seat lines right up to where the backbone will meet the roll cage. Once I can get a couple projects out of the way I’ll get started on the front part of the chassis and we will start to have a better idea of how much fiberglass work we will need to do to fit the belly pan (or parts of it) over the framework.
At this point I am thinking that it will take quite a bit but that never stopped me before haha!
Just wrap them wheels with rubber and let’s go… not so fast haha!
We have some good rubber to mock up with but we will have to get something more serious when it’s time to hit the salt, things have come a long way in a short amount of time and tires are just one of those things.
Good ol’ Avon Speedmasters are what comes to mind when shopping for rubber up front but taking a closer look it seems quite possible that we might be able to beat the tires speed rating of 112 MPH?
Because we really won’t know how fast we will be going I wonder if it might be a good idea to shoot for the moon and go with the highest rated tires we can find? Because I have always run a lot of Avon rubber around here, I looked at their website to see what kind of info they had and found some charts and such to help narrow it down.

UNCLE MONKEY ON RIDING FOR THERAPY– For most of us when the world is wearing down on us it is time to throw our leg over the bike and head out on the road. Roll on the miles and clear our mind. It is a peaceful time when it is just man and machine. We are left alone with our thoughts, free from the distractions of a plugged in world around us. Instead we are plugged into the natural world, instinctual world were nature strives for balance even against the plans of man.
Unfortunately for many of us the miles between here and there are congested with cars and trucks, road construction and speed traps. Merging, diverging of an ebb and flow of a metal stream on an asphalt riverbed. When your mind is crushing under the weight of the world you just want, yearn, hunger to get out to the freeways.
Riding a bike is dangerous if you are distracted in heavy traffic. Cages are not watching for us or worse yet aiming for us. It requires our full concentration just to make it out alive sometimes.
Throw in the distraction of work, the old lady’s nagging, legal problems, health problems or whatever it is that is motivating you to get out and ride can be a recipe for disaster.
Many of us have mapped out our quick escape from the asphalt jungle. Side streets, scenic routes past the park. Even in the busiest city there are better ways to escape that downtown during rush hour.
Being in the right frame of mind might be the most important piece of safety equipment we can have. Being aware of the surrounding, knowing what you have to do, where you have to go means you will get home safe, get to the next ride in one piece.
That means when the world is grinding you to ash and as much as you want to storm off, take a moment to check your bike over, take a moment to yell at the garage wall, hit the old heavy bag or speed bag, throw a couple darts at the board. Vent some of that pressure off before your throw your leg over and you will find that the ride will be that much better, that you will be all right in the end.
Remember: Everything will be alright in the end, and if it’s not alright, it’s not the end…

Apparently, DEA operatives are now going into a nice sideline business with revelations that a pair of agents in New Jersey owned and ran a strip club that employed illegal aliens as strippers.
Two Manhattan DEA employees secretly owned a low-rent strip club in South Hackensack, NJ, that employed illegal immigrants from Brazil and Russia as dancers, the feds say in a new criminal complaint.
The dive, called the Twins Plus Go-Go Lounge, has repeatedly been cited by state regulators for lewdness because the dancers over-exposed themselves and also took money for sex in the private lap dance rooms, the complaint says.
Agent David Polos, who is now retired, and employee Glen Glover, who is on administrative leave, are also in hot water for supervising their club via computer and smartphone apps during paid DEA shifts, and for lying on government paperwork by claiming they did not have any outside employment.
At this time we cannot comment on the specifics of the matter as it s an ongoing investigation, DEA spokeswoman Erin Mulvey said Wednesday.
