THE TWISTED BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for May 17, 2018

Hey,

I had a bad dream last night about roaming, lost, through the old offices of Easyriders. I couldn’t make sense out of anything or anything going on. Only Beatnik and Kim Peterson made any sense.

I woke up this morning wondering what the hell? Does anything make sense? Then I looked at our cat Sandy at complete peace, at the sun blazing in the window, the half-drank whiskey bottle on the counter and the old 45 flat-track race motorcycle in the living room and knew the world was just fine. Let’s hit the news.

The Bikernet Weekly News is sponsored in part by companies who also dig Freedom including: Cycle Source Magazine, the MRF, Las Vegas Bikefest, Iron Trader News, ChopperTown, BorntoRide.com and the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum. Most recently the Smoke Out and Quick Throttle Magazine came on board.

Progressive Laconia Motorcycle Week– A Family Tradition

June 9-17 Weirs Beach, New Hampshire

This year marks the 95th Laconia Motorcycle Week, a tradition that has certainly piled up a lot of stories and interesting characters along the way. None more so than Lance Blais, whose first visit to the event was way back in 1952.

Excuse him for not remembering the occasion, as he was just a toddler, arriving in the sidecar of his father’s motorcycle. As one of nine children (count them: Linda, Larry, Lance, Lauren, Lee, Lon, Luke, Landon and Lisa), Lance and his family have been back every year since, apart from the occasional war (Lance joined the military in 1966).

With the addition of each new family member, the sidecar simply got bigger and bigger, Lance recalling a story where the trip to Laconia during a rainstorm forced 2 stops along the way. One to poke holes in a shower curtain that served as their poncho, the other to punch a crowbar through their sidecar to drain out the accumulating rainwater.

Ask Lance about his experience at Laconia Motorcycle Week and he’ll never run short on colorful tales of his family’s adventures. They were a staple at the rally, winning “Best Dressed” awards, nine years
in a row, for their colorful, matching outfits.

“People think that riders are a specific type of person, they’re not. Riders at Motorcycle Week come from all walks of life; rich, poor, doctors, lawyers and, like me, a baker.” It’s true, Laconia Motorcycle Week attracts all kinds with a shared passion for motorcycles and riding. The event has something for everyone, hill climbs, races, live music, incredible vendors and tons of riding opportunities in one of the most scenic regions of New England.

But take it from Lance who says, “Motorcycle Week is a place to be yourself. Your expression is in your bike and the way you dress. I choose patriotic colors because I’m proud to be a veteran. It makes me happy when people stop and take notice. It’s a place to be noticed and share a little camaraderie with others that want to have a good time in a special place like the Weirs. People know me here. I started out coming with 8 brothers and sisters. Now my family includes all these people here and it makes me smile.”

QUICK, OPEN THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY– She’s single… She lives right across the street and I can see her place from my kitchen window! I watched as she got home from work this evening. I was surprised when she walked across the street, up my driveway and knocked on the door!

I opened the door, she looked at me and said,”I just got home, and I have this strong urge to go dancing, drinking and maybe fool around a little….you know, have some fun. Are you doing anything tonight?”

I quickly replied: “Nope, I’m free!”

“Great!” she said. “Can you look after my dog?”

MA Inspection Station Cameras Spy on More Than Just License Plates–
From guest writer Joe Cadillic of the MassPrivatel Blog.

Since October 1, 2017, Massachusetts vehicle inspection sticker stations have each been required to purchase five cameras to record vehicles in real-time.

The new system called ‘Mass Vehicle Check’ (MVC) requires inspectors and stations to spend between $5,710.00 – $8.141.00 dollars on government-approved surveillance gear.

Forcing vehicle inspection stations to pay for government surveillance cameras sounds familiar. It reminds me of police cam-share programs like Project Green Light, that are popping up across the country.

To call the MVC program intrusive doesn’t really do it justice.

Last October, an article in the Boston Globe warned everyone that inspection stations are spying on much more than your license plate.

“Service stations will now use cameras to ensure accurate inspections, document the status of vehicles being inspected, and allow for video conferencing for inspectors if they need technical support, the RMV said. Vehicles arriving for inspection will have photographs taken of their VIN, odometer, front license plate, and back license plate. Staff members conducting the inspection will also be photographed.”

Inspectors are required to use a handheld camera to record a vehicle’s VIN and mileage. But an October 2017 Boston TV investigative news report claimed the camera is also equipped with facial recognition software.

“The inspection station owner said he attended training and spent about $8,000 to purchase all the required technology, including software, handheld cameras and facial recognition.”

Imagine pulling up to a state inspection station and have the police show up because your vehicle was flagged by law enforcement for failure to pay child support, excise tax or because it got a hit from a secret hotlist. In some states, police could be called because a person couldn’t afford to pay a parking ticket.

Massachusetts uses Applus Technologies inspection equipment to record vehicular data in real-time. Applus is an international company that boasts that their services are being used by 70 countries.

“New still-photograph cameras, wireless testing equipment, improved workstations, sticker technology that prevents fraud, and tablets that RMV staff use for real-time reporting.”

According to the Massachusetts DOT, Applus is being paid close to $30 million dollars to keep a database of every driver.

Applus doesn’t hide the fact that ‘they work with government at all levels – city, county, state, national and international’.

Does anyone really think law enforcement doesn’t have access to vehicle inspection records?

At last year’s American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators conference, a two- hour law enforcement roundtable discussion was held to discuss information sharing (page 4) and mobile drivers licenses (page 8).

If you still have doubts about companies collecting and sharing personal vehicle information, check out DMV123 which offers real-time data to ‘qualified companies’ (wink, wink).

Given Applus’s record of working with government agencies at all levels, it’s safe to assume their database is accessible to lots of government agencies.

Turning inspection stations into mini-data collection centers is just wrong.

5-Ball Racing Handmade Solid Brass Buckles–Mag Wheel Patina
Our other Mag Wheel using the screw end of the massive wood hull sailboat screws. I didn’t fully polish this unit for a brushed patina look but hit it with a Scotch Brite wheel. Let me know if you want it polished.

All belt buckles can be made in Small 1.5 inch diameter, Medium 2.5-inch, Large 3-inch and Extra Large 3.5-inch outside diameter sizes. Keep in mind as they get larger they are heavier.

Each buckle is hand made for the most part and you will be in a very small group of owners in the world, perhaps one or two, or at most a dozen. No two buckles are exactly the same.

MOTORCYCLE PROFILING PROJECT NEWS–Charges Against Key Motorcycle Rights Activist Dismissed in Waco

As the McLennan County District Attorney’s Twin Peaks debacle continues to crumble, an important and previously prolific motorcycle rights activist has emerged from the dust. Thomas Paul Landers, along with most of those arrested in May 17, 2015, has had all charges against him related to Twin Peaks tragedy recently dismissed.

Paul, although very relieved, is still angry about the continued prosecution of innocent people also arrested and jailed that day that continue to face the prospect of life in prison for being ambushed at a political gathering.

Mass Arrests at a Political Gathering

On May 17th, 2015 I arrived home after a 350-mile-ride following a club event in Oregon, to my son telling me to watch CNN because they were reporting a shooting at a biker event in Texas. I began watching the news coverage and immediately called my friend Paul Landers when I realized it was a COC meeting. Paul is a prominent motorcycle rights activist and always attended COC events in Texas, so I immediately began worrying about him.

Paul answered the phone from the parking lot of the Twin Peaks. I asked him if he was alright. He said he wasn’t injured but didn’t know what was going to happen. We hung up, and the rest of the story has been a 3 year nightmare for Paul and nearly 200 others arrested, jailed, and held on $1-$2 million dollar punitive bonds. Paul’s nightmare ended Monday, May 14th, 2018 when his charges were dismissed by the McLennan County District Attorney. In fact, most of the charges have been dropped against most individuals.

But, unfortunately, the nightmare is not over for 24 individuals re-indicted and charged with rioting, three of them also charged with murder. And because a murder occurred, the sentence can be enhanced to the same level of life in prison.

The Persecution Continues for Many

The McLennan County DA’s office refuses to let go, has shifted from organized crime to rioting, and persists in charging individuals that irrefutably “retired” from any conflict and still others acting in self defense of themselves or others.

Take the examples of Marshall Mitchell and Jacob Carrizal, both obviously not guilty for different reasons. Marshall Mitchell never engages in any conflict, can be seen shaking a Cossacks hand on video, and quickly “retired” from the area of the ambush and gunshots, just as most that were able. Jake Carrizal, on the other hand, was unable to retreat from an ambush in which he clearly acted in self defense, as the video, his mistrial, and reports of overwhelming support for not guilty from most jurors demonstrates.

The Good Fight Continues

The fight to free those that are not guilty must not end. In fact, now is the time to further unite the motorcycle club community and continue he fight to protect the right to associate with a motorcycle club without fear of targeted prosecution. And now that the shackles on one of the most important motorcycle rights activists of our time have been removed, we all stand a better chance of succeeding. #FightTheGoodFight.

LOTTERY WINNER ARRESTED FOR DUMPING $200,000 OF MANURE ON EX-BOSS’ LAWN–A man from Illinois was arrested for getting $224,000 worth of manure dumped on his former employer’s property, only two weeks after he won $125 million at the lottery and quit his job.

54-year old Brian Morris, from the small town of Clarendon Hills in Dupage County, bought over 20,000 tons of manure and asked for it to be dumped on his former boss’ property, pretending it was his residence.

Dozens of trucks filled with manure showed up in front of the house around 6:00 this morning and began dumping their smelly cargo over the property’s lawn.

George Fitzgerald, Mr. Morris’ former employer, was awakened by the sound of the vehicles on his property and rapidly called the police.

Unfortunately, it took the police more than 15 minutes to arrive on the site, and more than 10,000 tons of manure had already been dumped in the meantime.

Brian Morris was standing right across the street and laughing when the police arrived, and he rapidly came over to confess his responsibility and explain his motivations.

Lieutenant Frank Meyers, a spokesman of the Clarendon Hills Police Department, met the press a few hours later to explain the motivations behind this strange crime.

“The accused told us he’d worked for the victim for 17 years and was treated like shit. He says he had to endure his mistreatment because he needed the money, but that now that he won $125 million it was time for revenge.”

The Clarendon Hills Police Department admitted that its response time was inadequate and said it would keep a close eye on Mr. Morris to avoid any more incidents.

Brian Morris had attracted a lot of media attention two weeks ago after winning $125 million at Powerball Multi-state lottery.

When asked by organizers what he would do with the money, he had simply answered: “Just read the news, you’ll see“.

He was freed on bail a few hours after his arrest, and told reporters to “stay alert“, claiming he had “a few other pranks to pull over the next few weeks“.

THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY IS OPEN FOR LUNCH–Two nuns were driving in the country and ran out of gas.
They spotted a farmhouse to ask the farmer if he could give them enough gas to get to the next town.

The farmer agrees, but says he has no container to put the gas in.
He takes them into the barn to see if there is anything they can find that will do the job.

Amidst a pile of junk one of the nuns spots a bedpan and says, “That will do just great!
We’re used to using those bedpans in the hospital.”

Farmer fills it with gas for them. The nuns take the bedpan full of gas back to their car.
They pour the gas into their car’s gas tank when a car drives up.

The window rolls down and a man leans out the window and says, “Sisters … I’m not a Roman Catholic …
as a matter of fact I’m a Baptist clergyman.
But I just had to stop to tell you how much I admire your faith that that’s going to work!!!

SELF-DRIVING CAR KILLS AN ARIZONA PEDESTRIAN—Arizona orders Uber cars off the road.

Following a March crash, in which an Uber self-driving car struck and killed a pedestrian walking her bicycle across a street, Arizona ordered the Uber cars off its roadways, and California announced it will not renew Uber’s permit to test their self-driving vehicles.

Meanwhile, Waymo CEO John Krafeik told a National Automobile Dealers Association meeting that his company’s technology “would be able to handle a situation” like the one in Arizona.

The fatal collision on March 18, in Tempe, Arizona, highlights the dangers to motorcyclists of the emerging technology…

WACO SHOOTOUT EDITORIAL–So the WACO shooting case going on since 2015. Two biker groups had a brawl. Police SWAT team shot with the only intention to kill the bikers. Then Police goes on to arrest a surviving biker and charge him with murder of the biker shot to death by the police. The autopsy simply says dead biker died of gunshot wounds.

It is 2018 and only now a journalist knows who shot the murdered man and it was the police. It would be difficult for the best hack writer in Hollywood to make up this plan of corrupt cops who want to shoot bikers who probably have a networth of a few hundred dollars individually. Apart from the cops, the doctor who gave the wonderful autopsy to the lawyers and the lawyers who tried to pin the murder on the arrested biker seems like they are on a payroll of private prison companies.

If any of these bikers were black the SWAT team would have probably used a napalm bomb on the location. Take no prisoners if you can kill them right there. If any survive, send them to the private prison company.

FRIENDS AND BROS–“One day I had lunch with some old friends. Jim, a short, balding golfer type, about 85-years old, came along with them; all in all, it was a pleasant bunch.

When the menus were presented, my friends and I ordered salads, sandwiches, and soups, except for Jim who said, “A large piece of home-made apple pie, heated, please.

I wasn’t sure my ears heard him right, and the others were aghast, when Jim continued, completely unabashed….”along with two large scoops of vanilla ice cream.”

We tried to act quite nonchalant as if people did this all the time, but when our orders were brought out, I didn’t enjoy eating mine. I couldn’t take my eyes off of Jim as I watched him savoring each bite of his pie a-la-mode.

The other guys just grinned in disbelief as they silently ate their lunches.

The next time I went out to eat, I called Jim and invited him to join me. I lunched on a white meat tuna sandwich, while he ordered a chocolate parfait. Since I was chuckling, he wanted to know if he amused me?

I answered, “Yes, you certainly do, but you also confuse me. How come you always order such rich desserts, while I feel like I must be sensible in my food choices?”

He laughed and said “I’m tasting all that is possible for me to taste. I try to eat the food I need and do the things I should in order to stay healthy, but life’s too short, my friend. I hate missing out on something good.

“This year I realized how old I was,” He grinned. “I’ve never been this old before, so, while I’m still here, I’ve decided it’s time to try all those things that, for years, I’ve been ignoring.” He continued, “I haven’t smelled all the flowers yet. There are too many trout streams I haven’t fished. There are more fudge sundaes to wolf down and kites to be flown overhead. There are too many golf courses I haven’t played. I’ve not laughed at all the jokes. I’ve missed a lot of sporting events and potato chips and cookies.”

With that, I called the waitress over. “I’ve changed my mind, ” I said. “I want what he’s having, only add some more whipped cream!”

This is my gift to you – We need an annual Friends Day! If you get this twice, then you have more than one friend. Live well, love much, & laugh often – Be happy and enjoy doing whatever your heart desires.

You only go around once on this crazy planet.

Remember that while money talks, ICE CREAM SINGS!”

THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY IS STILL OPEN–I find Tequila and Whiskey have similar effects for me…………..

One night at Cheers, a TV Sitcom, Cliff Clavin said to his buddy, Norm Peterson:

“Well, ya see, Norm, it’s like this … A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first.

This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.

In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells.

Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells.

But, naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first.

In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine.

That’s why you always feel smarter after a few beers.”

Along with all the other great News, Views & Reviews.

You can buy a copy of Ozbike #418 directly from us & we’ll pay the postage (Australia only).

Last issue (#417), at the last moment, just before the artwork went off to the printers, I decided to upgrade the paper and go perfect-bound (no staples).

The result was interesting: the heavy-weight, glassy art paper lifted the images off the page; however, because the artwork had been done for a stapled magazine, all the larger images didn’t quite fit together properly across the middle gutter.

This issue I’ve stayed with the better paper and perfect bound but I’ve taken a different approach to the artwork.

I’d love to hear what you think of the new format when you get the new issue. Like it or not, drop me an email: skol@ozbike.com.au

Just curious. Does anybody actually go to a newsagent (newsstands) anymore? Do they still sell newspapers (I read the news on my phone each morning). Do they still sell raffle tickets? (I buy mine on my phone each morning). Gord, you can even buy birthday cards on-line.

Seems to me that buying Ozbike directly from us is a no-brainer. It doesn’t cost you any more and it gets delivered directly to your door before the newsagents get them.

BAD SENATOR FILE–Former California Sen. Leland Yee was sentenced to five years in prison on Wednesday for accepting bribes and trafficking in arms.

Throughout Yee’s political career, he was a staunch gun control advocate, the Washington Post reported.

Yee was arrested for his role in an FBI sting operation that was investigating organized crime in San Francisco’s Chinatown, where he was recorded promising votes and guns to an undercover agent.

Yee had received thousands of dollars in campaign contributions in exchange for political favors.

Yee pleaded guilty in 2017 to avoid a trial.

JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT–
Here’s a link to a Shell commercial shown in Europe. Can you just imagine the red tape, permits & cost to pull-off this commercial?
Ostensibly, they’re selling gasoline but the cars used in the video steal the show.

Ferrari pulled several of their race cars from various ages out of storage, flew them around the world, & filmed them running through the streets of Rome, Rio, New York, Hong Kong, Honolulu & Monaco.
No computer graphics, these are the original cars on the original streets.

The best part is the sound from the basso-profundo notes of the early, front-engine era: each scene cuts to a later generation, ending with the wail of a modern F1 car. There’s just something about 3 litres & 14,000 RPM!

Even if you’re not a petrol-head, this video should stir your soul

BIKERNET READER COMMENT–
Frames and Frame Geometry 101

http://www.bikernet.com/pages/story_detail.aspx?id=1862

I put my bike in the shop and had everything you said to check and it’s good. I checked the trail and almost have none. I have a 38 degree rake in the neck and 7 degrees in the trees. The front forks are 38.5 inches long. Are my forks to long or to short to get 4 inches trail

Too short, but how does the bike set. You have too many degrees in the trees, maybe. According to Sugar Bear, zero is cool. But some would rather have 4 inches or more of trail. I would suggest 3 degrees in the trees and adjust the length of the front end to set the frame level.–Wrench

THE UNDERCOVER BAD COP FILE–
Two Memphis police officers accused of stealing drugs, money during traffic stops

Two Memphis police officers were arrested Friday and charged with stealing drugs and money from drug dealers during traffic stops.
Terrion Bryson, 25, and Kevin Coleman, 40, were charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture, distribute or sell heroin, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony and criminal attempt felony to manufacture, distribute or sell heroin.

They were booked in the Shelby County Jail on Friday morning.

According to police, MPD’s Organized Crime Unit investigators and the FBI’s Tarnished Blue unit received information in February accusing the two officers of stealing drugs and money during traffic stops.

The arrests come in the same week that a federal judge sentenced a former Shelby County Sheriff’s deputy, Jeremy Drewery, to more than five years in prison for charges including extorting money from a drug dealer.

Earlier this month, a sting operation was set up and police said the duo are accused of stealing money during two traffic stops from an undercover officer posing as a drug dealer, according to the arrest affidavit.
Bryson then contacted the undercover officer again on April 11 about him and Coleman protecting 2.5 kilograms of heroin they were told by the undercover officer was coming into the city, according to the affidavit.

The duo demanded $9,000 from the undercover officer to protect the drugs “from being seized by legitimate law enforcement activities,” according to the affidavit.

“During this negotiation, Coleman, while on duty as a Memphis police officer threatened physical harm to the UC’s (undercover officer’s) family if the arrangement was a setup,” according to the affidavit.

On April 12, the officers were given $4,000 as partial payment to protect what they thought was a large heroin shipment. The money was left in a vehicle in the parking lot of Walmart on Austin Peay, police said.

Later that day, the defendants met with the undercover officer at a storage unit on Millbranch and were given an additional $5,000.

They were arrested in the 1600 block of Raines in the middle of a meeting in the parking lot of a strip mall, police said. Police said they recovered the $5,000 cash from Bryson’s vehicle. Both officers were also armed with loaded guns.

Bryson and Colemen admitted to police that they conspired to take money to protect heroin, according to arrest records.
The officers will be in court Monday for an arraignment on the charges.

Coleman has worked with the Memphis police department since June 2012. Bryson has been an officer since August 2015, according to a post on MPD’s Facebook page.

Both officers were assigned to the Raines Station precinct and have been relieved of duty pending the ongoing investigation.

“We recognized that two of our own were possibly involved with criminal activity and we investigated,” Memphis Police Director Michael Rallings said in a statement posted on Facebook. “We do not care what your profession is, and we do not care who you are; if you break the law and you are involved in illegal activity, we will stop you.”

MAY IS MOTORCYCLE AWARENESS MONTH—launched with AMA assistance in the early 1980s. Motorcycle Awareness Month has been adopted by state motorcycleist rights organizations, loval and state governments and AMA-chartered clubs.

Awareness is a broad issue that encompasses may aspects of riding and driving. But by fare the hottest topic today is distracted driving. During daylight hours, approximately 660,000 drivers are using cell phones while driving, according to data gathered by the federal government.

Distractions include eating, drinking, talking, applying makeup, fiddling with vehicle navigation systems and sex, to name a few.

If you’re a passenger in a car, don’t let the driver use his cell phone. Folks are working on an app that will disable cell phones when they are in motion. Dangerous shit. Be careful.
