The Sturgis Buffalo Chip opened this week to welcome bikers from across the globe to the Largest Music Festival in Motorcycling™. Headlining concerts don’t begin until Friday, Aug. 1, but already the line of guests waiting to gain entrance has stretched out through the gates and along the entrance road as early as 6 a.m.
The Buffalo Chip’s Motorcycle and Music Festival officially begins Friday with the third annual Friday Fest kickoff. This Sturgis Rally pre-party will pack in seven solid hours of live music, dance troupes and bikini contests all on the main stage along with free beer in the amphitheater while it lasts. Buffalo Chip showcase performers, The Mods, The Living Deads, Iron Cowgirl Missy, Charlie Brechtel, and Japanese biker band, MMS, will rock the amphitheater throughout the day leading up to the evening’s headlining performance from classic rockers, Loverboy.
The Buffalo Chip has pulled out all the stops for this year’s festival. At any time of day guests will have a wide variety of contests, events, activities, stunts and concerts from which to choose.
“We hit the ground running,” says Rod Woodruff, president of the Sturgis Buffalo Chip. “We have nearly 50 acts booked to entertain Buffalo Chip guests through Aug. 9, so there will be nearly continuous live music all week.”
Guests can see the iconic Budweiser Clydesdales, watch the Rolling Sturgis Roller Derby, take a ride on the Husker Helicopter and listen to live music on the Jägermeister Stage all on Saturday at the free-access Cross Roads at the Buffalo Chip®. Saturday’s headliners on the main stage are post-punk hard rockers, The Cult, along with Queensrÿche and Lovebettie.
Campground admission passes are still available, and all concerts are free with camping. Passes also grant guests access to the Bikini Beach swim paradise, 25 bars, thrilling exhibits and outrageous events. The 33rd annual Sturgis Buffalo Chip Motorcycle and Music Festival runs Friday, Aug. 1 through Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014. More details are available at www.BuffaloChip.com or by calling (605) 347-9000.
