THE BIKERNET BADASS NEWS for March 13th, 2025

Hey,

I rolled into Wapid City for my pre-op testing and CT scan yesterday. On the way the President of the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum called. He bubbled with exciting news around our new online shop and our Raffle effort.

I’m proud to be on the board of this effort to bring a world class museum to Sturgis, the motorcycle epicenter of the world. When I jumped onto the board, I encountered a cool little museum with a growing Hall of Fame. But much work needed to be encouraged and implemented.

We faced a ton of obstacles, but the entire industry wanted to help and did. We have an amazing board of very sharp active motorcyclists. The opportunity for a vision of something world class for the motorcycle industry in Sturgis is available. We just need to make it happen.

Let’s hit the news:

The News was provided by the Bikernet Team including: Wayfarer, the Redhead, Bob T. Sam Burns, Laura, Barry Green, El Waggs, J.J. Solari, Amy White, Jenn and the rest of the crew.

The Bikernet Weekly News is sponsored in part by companies who also dig Freedom including: Cycle Source Magazine, the MRF, Iron Trader News, ChopperTown, BorntoRide.com and the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum.

HONORING INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY–in honor of International Women’s Day, we’re shining a light on the brave women who have sacrificed for our country — despite unique and devastating challenges.

As detailed in our landmark report Women Veterans: The Journey to Mental Wellness, high rates of military sexual trauma and intimate partner violence, substance use disorders and reproductive health challenges put women veterans at higher risk for suicide.

DAV has long been at the forefront of advocating for policy and legislative changes to better serve women veterans, who now represent more than 10% of all veterans. Every day, we’re fighting to improve the lives of fellow veterans …

With women veterans dying by suicide at staggering rates and significant gaps in health care — there’s much work to be done.

DAV recently helped pass the Protecting Moms Who Served Act to improve maternity care, the Making Advances in Mammography and Medical Options for Veterans Act to improve access to mammograms and the historic provisions from the Deborah Sampson Act aimed at enhancing health care programs and services for women veterans and improving access to care.

We’re committed to keeping up the fight to ensure all women veterans get the benefits, care and support they have rightfully earned.

Read the stories of women who have been forever changed by military service and how DAV is fighting for them. Thank you for being a member of DAV — and for standing with your fellow veterans.

BONNEVILLE MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM EFFORT—Tom Anderson called the other day and said, “Bandit, you do it. You’re taller than I am.”

He’s Santa Claus of the Buell Brothers and he’s passionate about kicking off a museum dedicated to Bonneville racers.

Starting a museum is just like opening a large shop, except it don’t exactly make money. But somehow it needs to generate the funds to keep it open, curate exhibits, market it to the industry so folks come, start a gift shop, so you need merch and holy shit.

If you are interested in making this happen, reach out to Tom at 715-220-1725. Tell him you’re interested and what you might be able to contribute. That’s a start.

NHTSA Administrator Selection–In February, President Trump nominated Jonathan Morrison as the next National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) administrator. He previously served as the chief counsel at NHTSA during the first Trump administration. His resume includes time at Apple and with the California New Car Dealers Association.

As you know, NHTSA is a federal agency within the Department of Transportation responsible for setting and enforcing motor vehicle safety standards, conducting research and working with states to reduce deaths. However, you may not know that NHTSA has been without a permanent administrator since 2022. For the last few years, the agency has been led by an “acting administrator.”  To be the official head of the agency requires a confirmation vote by the U.S. Senate. The failure to find a permanent Senate-confirmed leader for NHTSA has many frustrated in Washington, D.C.

If confirmed, Mr. Morrison will head an agency that recently reduced its workforce by 4% as part of broader federal efforts to eliminate probationary employees. During Senate confirmation hearings, he will likely face tough questions about autonomous vehicles, ongoing investigations into Tesla crashes and the rollback of fuel economy rules aimed at reducing the number of internal combustion engines on our roads.

We at the Motorcycle Riders Foundation will track this potential leadership change at NHTSA and remain engaged with an agency that has sweeping authority over the issues that matter to bikers.

UNDERSTANDING EPA’S “BIGGEST DEREGULATORY ACTION IN U.S. HISTORY– 18 important deregulatory actions EPA announced yesterday, and why they will make life better for all of us.

By ALEX EPSTEIN

Did the EPA really just take the “Biggest Deregulatory Action in U.S. History”?

Arguably, yes.

Here are 18 important deregulatory actions EPA announced today, and why they will make life better for all of us. (I posted a version of these points on Twitter/X yesterday; so far it has over a million views, and has been shared publicly by EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin.)

“Reconsideration of regulations on power plants (Clean Power Plan 2.0)”

These Biden regulations would effectively ban all coal plants and new natural gas plants by demanding impossible 90% carbon capture.¹

Reconsidering them is essential to preserving the grid and unleashing electricity.

“Reconsideration of light-duty, medium-duty, and heavy-duty vehicle regulations”

These Biden regulations paved the way for the EV mandate by imposing unachievable emission standards on gas vehicles.²

Reconsidering them is essential for preserving automotive choice.

“Reconsideration of the 2009 Endangerment Finding”

This Obama-era determination, by declaring CO2 dangerous, allowed Biden to shut down power plants, slow US oil growth, and lock up our limitless natural gas.³

Reconsidering it is essential for American energy dominance.

“Ending so-called ‘Good Neighbor Plan’”

This Biden rule set ozone-related emissions levels so (unnecessarily) low that many vital coal power plants can’t comply—even though ozone levels are very low throughout the US.⁴

Ending it is essential to preserving grid reliability.

“Reconsideration of Particulate Matter National Ambient Air Quality Standards”

These Biden regulations demand hugely costly cuts to US PM2.5 levels, which are already very low and safe.⁵

Reconsidering them is crucial to keeping American energy and industry globally competitive.

“Reconsideration of limitations, guidelines and standards (ELG) for the Steam Electric Power Generating Industry”

These Biden regulations throttle coal power generation by imposing needlessly stringent wastewater standards.⁶

Reconsidering them is important to preserving our grid.

“Reconsideration of Mercury and Air Toxics Standards”

These Biden regulations impose draconian mercury and other emission limits on coal plants, requiring costly retrofits or shutdowns with little or no health benefit.⁷

Reconsidering them is essential to preserving grid reliability.

“Restructuring the Regional Haze Program”

This EPA program imposes major costs on electricity producers for minimal visibility improvements in low-populated areas.⁸

Restructuring it is crucial for facilitating affordable and reliable electricity.

“Prioritizing coal ash program to expedite state permit reviews and update coal ash regulations (CCR Rule)”

These Biden regulations impose an impossible compliance timeline for coal ash disposal.⁹

Fixing them is crucial will preserve the grid while responsibly managing coal ash.

“Overhauling Biden-Harris Administration’s ‘Social Cost of Carbon’”

This Biden method of calculating the costs of CO2 emissions allows EPA to vastly exaggerate the benefits of its regulations.¹⁰

Overhauling it is essential for restoring real cost-benefit analyses to the EPA.

“Reconstituting Science Advisory Board and Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee”

Biden stacked these scientific panels in favor of harsh regulations on energy producers.

Making these panels more balanced is critical for the EPA’s ability to unleash American energy.

“Reconsideration of exceptional events rulemaking”

This EPA policy requires states to undergo complex procedures for exempting prescribed fires from strict air quality standards.¹¹

Revisiting it is vital for enabling safe, controlled burns that prevent catastrophic wildfires.

“Reconsideration of regulations throttling the oil and gas industry (OOOO b/c)”

These Biden regulations would effectively shut down smaller producers by imposing high-cost methane capture requirements.¹²

Reconsidering them is essential to maximizing American oil and gas production.

“Reconsideration of multiple National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants”

These EPA regulations impose costly emission controls on industries like iron and steel, tire manufacturing, and chemicals.¹³

Reconsidering them is crucial for unleashing American manufacturing.

“Reconsideration of mandatory Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program”

This Biden program demands pointlessly detailed emission tracking from emitters of over 25,000 metric tons/year of CO2.¹⁴

Reconsidering it could save productive companies countless wasted millions and hours.

“Working with states and tribes to resolve massive backlog with State Implementation Plans and Tribal Implementation Plans”

These EPA backlogs deprive states of control over their electricity mix.

Resolving them is essential to preserving local grid reliability.

“Redirecting enforcement resources to EPA’s core mission”

The Biden administration used its enforcement power to pressure energy producers into costly settlements.

Recalibrating this is essential to protecting the rule of law and establishing American energy dominance.

“Terminating Biden’s Environmental Justice and DEI arms of the agency”

These Biden initiatives diverted resources from even-handed enforcement of the law to identity-based agendas.¹⁵

Ending them is crucial to restoring the rule of law and ensuring EPA serves all Americans.

ANOTHER ANNOUNCEMENT DROPS IN ONE WEEK

BAND COMING MARCH 18

HELLRAISER EVENT TO ROCK LOS ANGELES–With only 10 days away the event is creeping around the corner.  A lot of time, energy, and money invested into this gig. Politic-ing and non stop phone calls and planning with band managers, builders, artist, photographers, vendors, dancers bar tenders, security and staff…

I’ve had my hands full..trying to tattoo five days a week while organizing and spending mornings and Tuesdays over at the warehouse taking care of buisness. I’m excited, the promotion of the show I’ve been putting out online through instagram is being well received. Our videos and post have been getting a lot of interactions with the scene.

We are aiming to entertain 2-3 thousand people at the show. I leveled it up a bit and got some bigger bands than the last two shows. If all goes well and there’s no drama I believe we will rock the streets. A day to celebrate and honor the one that paved the road, the Bandit. Admire some of the coolest artist around and check out some of the raddest builds in town.

Hellraiser 2 will be the place to be.

INCREDIBLE, REUTERS FLIPS ON CLIMATE–The pursuit of net zero carbon emissions has been a resounding failure. Despite trillions of dollars spent on renewable energy, hydrocarbons still account for over 80% of the world’s primary energy and a similar share of recent increases in energy consumption, according to The Energy Institute. Coal, oil and natural gas production are at record highs. Emissions of greenhouse gases continue to rise inexorably. The financial markets were already losing confidence in the energy transition before Donald Trump returned to the White House. A more realistic approach to climate policy is urgently needed.

These are the remarkable opening lines of a recent article by an opinion writer at news agency Reuters! Joanne Nova reacted: “Wow. Just Wow. Trump gets elected and Reuters realizes renewable energy is unrealistic. In a rush, at least one opinion writer at Reuters is suddenly saying all the things skeptics have been saying for years: all the things Reuters has hidden from the world about renewable energy. It is hard to believe, but it’s all there…

FANTASTIC NEWS FROM THE EPA--Is that possible?

The EPA just announced it’s challenging the single most destructive regulatory action in US history: the “endangerment finding.”

This bogus “finding” allowed Obama and Biden to ban gas cars, shut down power plants, slow US oil growth, and lock up our limitless natural gas.

Ever wonder why the Biden EPA was able to become an economic dictator, prohibiting most Americans from buying a gas car after 2032 and effectively banning all coal plants and new natural gas plants after 2039?

It started with the Obama EPA’s bogus “endangerment finding.”¹

In 2009, the Obama EPA issued a “finding” that GHGs “endanger both the public health and the public welfare of current and future generations.”

But GHGs mostly come from fossil fuels, which on net had clearly been enhancing health and welfare—and would continue doing so.²

Since human beings began harnessing uniquely cost-effective energy from fossil fuels, human health and welfare have increased dramatically everywhere.

Why? Because the benefits of cheap, reliable energy for billions far outweigh any negative side-effects of fossil fuels.³

Before and since the “endangerment finding,” which is supposedly about reducing climate danger, fossil fuels have on net made us far safer from climate danger by creating incredible climate resilience.

That’s why climate disaster deaths have declined 98% over 100 years!⁴

In considering whether fossil fuels’ GHGs “endanger” us and thus should be restricted, EPA should have considered

1. Overall benefits of fossil fuels

2. Climate resilience benefits of fossil fuels

3. Both positive and negative climate impacts of GHGs

EPA failed on all 3 counts.

The “endangerment finding” was particularly inane because it concluded that the US restricting US GHG emissions would accomplish anything globally—when in fact all it accomplished was harming us and offshoring industry to China, which now has 300+ new coal plants in the pipeline!⁵

By falsely claiming that fossil fuels “endanger” human health, welfare, and climate safety when they were—and have continued to be—a net benefit, EPA has justified giving itself totalitarian powers that, if not stopped, will crater the US economy.

Drawing on its bogus “endangerment” finding, the Biden EPA passed GHG rules that effectively ban all coal plants and new natural gas plants—by requiring them to capture at least 90% of GHGs, which no plant has ever done at all, let alone cost-effectively.

Drawing on its bogus “endangerment” finding, the Biden EPA passed “fuel economy standards” that would prevent more than 50% of Americans from buying a gasoline-powered vehicle after 2032—a complete violation of American freedom.⁶

Drawing on the bogus “endangerment” finding, the Biden EPA and administration as a whole waged a “whole of government” war on fossil fuels that, if not reversed, will crater our entire economy—which has no near-term replacement for fossil fuels.⁷

The Trump administration, especially EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, will be attacked relentlessly for challenging the bogus “endangerment finding”—but they should be praised for being willing to take on the most destructive regulatory action in American history.

NORTHERN TOOL & EQUIPMENT– Empowers Future Tradeswomen at Sons of Speed

A group of 50 female high school students receive hands-on experience at the racetrack

A group of 50 female high school students from Volusia County’s Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs got hands-on experience in the trades at the Sons of Speed vintage motorcycle race. The event was part of Northern Tool + Equipment’s Tools for the Trades™ program, designed to fuel a growing interest in trade careers. The group was guided by female professionals already working in the field.

“Having a group of young women that are passionate about the trades brought an awesome and hopeful energy to the track this weekend,” says Billy Lane, Sons of Speed Founder.

Students learned from four women thriving in various, in-demand trade careers:

Jody Perewitz: World-class custom painter, land-speed record holder and vintage motorcycle racer.

Shelly Rossmeyer Pepe: Former Harley-Davidson dealership owner and general manager.

Marilyn Stemp: Writer, editor & photographer specializing in motorcycle industry media.

Dystany Spurlock: Female over-the-road truck driver who also races in NHRA events on weekends.

“I know the importance of breaking barriers in male-dominated industries,” says Spurlock. “This event proves women belong in any field they choose.”

“Giving these young women the chance to see the trades and motorcycle racing up close demonstrates that no industry is off-limits,” says Perewitz.

The Tools for the Trades™ program launched in 2021 and addresses the nationwide shortage of skilled tradespeople. The program provides students and educators with access to professional-grade tools and equipment and unique learning opportunities, like track days at Sons of Speed.

“We’re proud to support opportunities that inspire and equip the next generation of tradespeople to build lasting careers,” says Wade Kotula, CEO of Northern Tool + Equipment.

MARYLAND CONSIDERS TOTAL BAN OF PFAS PRODUCTS–

A bill in Maryland proposes to prohibit manufacturing, selling, or distributing consumer products that contain PFAS chemicals beginning on July 1, 2026. House Bill 1112, currently making its way through General Assembly committees, would also establish “time limits for bringing an action for wrongful death or personal injury concerning exposure of a person to PFAS chemicals….”

The latest version of the bill reads:

“IF EXPOSURE TO PFAS CHEMICALS WAS A CAUSE OF A PERSON’S DEATH, AN ACTION UNDER THIS SECTION SHALL BE FILED WITHIN THE EARLIER OF: 10 YEARS OF THE DATE OF DEATH; OR 3 YEARS OF THE DATE WHEN THE CAUSE OF DEATH WAS DISCOVERED. This paragraph applies only to a wrongful death cause of action arising from conduct that would constitute a criminal homicide under State or federal law.”

“As drafted, the Maryland bill would be disastrous for powersports sales roughly a year from now,” said Scott Schloegel, MIC Senior Vice President of Government Relations. “A wide range of powersports products contain PFAS chemicals, found in or used to produce products such as riding gear, vehicle components resistant to heat, fuel, and chemicals, as well as semiconductors and chrome plating. In many of those products, PFAS is a currently unavoidable use. House Bill 1112 would mean an end to sales for all manner of products inside Maryland dealerships.”

“We are working with coalition partners to educate Maryland legislators and hopefully minimize the impact on the powersports industry,” Schloegel said. “This could be excluding powersports products from the bill or inserting safe-harbor provisions for the products that are already in inventory, or significantly extending any implementation dates.”

Maryland is not the only state where the powersports industry faces new challenges. New PFAS chemical regulations began on January 1 in California and Minnesota. In the Golden State, outdoor apparel designed for severe wet conditions and containing PFAS must be accompanied by a disclosure statement. In the Land of 10,000 Lakes, powersports products – from vehicles to riding gear designed for children under 12 – containing intentionally added PFAS chemicals are banned from sale or distribution.

LATEST FROM DANIAL JAMES–These two pieces will be featured in the 5-Ball Shop and the Emporium, when the remodeling process is handled.

“I’m often asked why I paint pet portraits when there are so many online digital art options for people,” Danial said. “The simple answer is, personalization. It’s easy to find a lookalike image online, but it’s not actually exactly like your own pet. As an artist, I can create a painting of your pet that is undeniably your pet.”

From the Owner

His name is Dublin, which comes from the day that he was adopted/rescued… St. Patrick’s Day. If you find it appropriate to include a clover or something along that line, that could be fun. His dog tag has a clover on one side.

I don’t know that he has a favorite toy, per se. But I have purchased him a number of duck toys that he seems to have really enjoyed. One of them is made by Orvis and I’m including two pictures of him with that toy.

He loves watching the world go by from his dog bed in the house.  He loves going for very long walks and gets pretty annoyed if he doesn’t get enough exercise. He has a very gentle/passive personality… and only really barks if you are late to feed him ha.  Speaking of which, he has a bit of a refined pallet and prefers things like sweet potatoes and salmon over anything that a dog food manufacturer will offer.

If you would like to commission Danial to paint a photo of your pet, reach out to him directly: DanialJamesfineart@gmail.com
