Tail Gunner’s New Paint Job

Well it’s that time! Now that Daron Ray of Hazzardous Customs is finished striping the tins to bare metal and finishing them with 1964 Highland Green from the Ford Motor Company (House of Kolor match), I can finally get the old girl back on the road. I figured as long as I had the bike down this far, go ahead and put a set of new tires and brakes on, so that’s what I did, nice! Reassembly was a snap. I had plenty of time to clean up areas of the bike that have never seen polish. When I got the tins back, WOW! Daron did a hell of a job. I really hated the front fender skirt, so I had Daron weld up and body work the holes for a cleaner look.

So why this green? It’s homage to the king of cool! I met McQueen in the ’70s and hung out with his son Chad. It’s also sorta the color of money!

I recently went to the Long Beach MC swap meet and found an old 7-inch round air cleaner cover off a Panhead for $5.

And I discovered a new luggage rack for $50, not bad considering Harley wants almost $150 for the rack and $50 for the cover.

The emblems were a concern, I almost didn’t put them back on, but after some thought and the fact that they go for almost $300 used, I reinstalled them.

So here she is, the finished product. The green sort of grows on you. It definitely gives the bike some depth. Yeah, Yeah, I know the old wife’s tale about green bikes! Bullshit! If I thought that way, I’d have to give up my birthday, it’s on the 13th, LOL!

Daron did an outstanding job! She has seven clear coats and a bit of flake, perfect!

Daron is a busy guy, I have him working on two other projects for me, a ’64 Panhead and a custom ATC250R.

I’ll keep you up to date on those as time goes on. If you need a sweet paint job at a reasonable price, you can contact Daron at: hazzardouscustoms@yahoo.com. Tell him Tail Gunner sent you.
