KAWASAKI KX™ BRAND CELEBRATES 50th ANNIVERSARY

Making its motocross racing debut in 1973, the Kawasaki KX™ motocross lineup has served as the bike that builds champions for many of the sport’s brightest stars. This year, the Kawasaki KX lineup celebrates 50 years of dirt domination.

Over the past 50 years, Kawasaki KX motorcycles have dominated at the pinnacle of off-road racing, collecting an industry-leading 63 combined AMA motocross and supercross championships as well as 720 victories in AMA professional racing. Kawasaki’s impressive list of champions who have relied on their KX motorcycles to take them to the top step of the podium starts with Jimmy Weinert in 1974 and include all-time greats such as Jeff Ward, Ricky Carmichael, James Stewart, Ryan Villopoto, Eli Tomac and current Monster Energy® Kawasaki factory riders Jason Anderson and Adam Cianciarulo.

The development of the revolutionary technology for the KX lineup has remained constant throughout the years in Kawasaki’s pursuit of victory. These technological advancements include the Uni-Trak® rear suspension in 1979, disc brakes in 1980, and the perimeter frame in 1989. The Kawasaki Team Green™ support program was established in 1981 to support all Kawasaki riders at major amateur motocross events, and has helped turn aspiring young riders into future champions. Recent innovations include the DFI® system with dual injectors and launch control mode in 2012, but in 2019, Kawasaki engineers took the KX brand a step further by introducing both electric start and a hydraulic clutch to an already impressive list of features found on its flagship KX™450. Today, the KX™250 and KX™450 remain poised to continue their industry-leading charge and have adopted FIM World Superbike-derived technology from the Kawasaki Racing Team (KRT) efforts such as the finger follower valve train, ensuring KX riders have the power needed to get to the checkered flag first.

Throughout the world, Lime Green continues to be recognized as the color of Kawasaki, and for over 50 years, KX machines have proudly worn this color that has serves as the color of victory.

To celebrate this milestone, Kawasaki will be sharing historical content throughout this year featuring some of the greatest technological innovations, racing moments and other memories from the past 50 years.

Royal Enfield celebrates first ever Half-Mile Victory

Lewis bested the AFT Production Twins field in dominating fashion.

Milwaukee, Wis (Tuesday, June 29, 2021) – Round seven of the 2021 Progressive American Flat Track Championship proved to be a historic moment for Royal Enfield, as Johnny Lewis and the Moto Anatomy x Royal Enfield Team were the class of the field on Saturday evening at the Allen County Fairgrounds in Lima, Ohio. The win marked the team’s first victory since the Daytona I Short Track, and the first-ever Half-Mile win for Royal Enfield and the Moto Anatomy x Royal Enfield Team.

“This weekend gave us the opportunity to showcase what the Royal Enfield Twins FT is capable of,” said Moto Anatomy x Royal Enfield rider Johnny Lewis. “The team has been working extremely hard every time out to improve the motorcycle and this result reflects all the effort we’ve put into the program. We couldn’t be happier with this achievement. Thank you to Royal Enfield, the team and all our supporters for backing us.”

Lewis got out to a decent start in the main event but had to work his way into the lead, which took him less than a minute to do. From there, Lewis simply dominated the field, leaving the competition to battle over second as he stretched his lead. A red flag (due to a downed rider) with less than two minutes remaining prompted a restart, and once again Lewis had to make some passes to get out front, but he simply powered his Royal Enfield Twins FT around the outside, reclaiming the lead and taking the checkered flag.

Johnny Lewis’ win at Lima, Ohio comes after a steady season of progress with the Moto Anatomy x Royal Enfield Team. Following some flashes of brilliance aboard the Twins FT in the 2021 season, Lewis and the team knew they had the engine to be competitive, and worked on fine-tuning the chassis with their focus specifically on the Half-Mile. The classic venue at Lima, Ohio—the only cushion Half-Mile on the American Flat Track schedule—was the perfect stage for this significant victory for Royal Enfield.

“This historic win came at the right moment for the team, for Johnny and Royal Enfield,” said Breeann Poland, Marketing and Communications Lead – Royal Enfield Americas. “We started the season with a new crew led by David Lloyd and have been looking for our first win at a Half-Mile. Lewis and the Moto Anatomy X Royal Enfield team will be back in action on Saturday, July 24, at the Port Royale Half-Mile in New York. They will be joined by the Royal Enfield BUILD TRAIN RACE (BTR) program as the ladies are looking toward their next exhibition race at the same venue.

Monster Energy® Kawasaki Finds Success in the Sands of Southwick

Foothill Ranch, Calif. (June 30, 2019) – Monster Energy®/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider Adam Cianciarulo conquered the sandy hills of Southwick at Round 6 of the 2019 AMA Pro Motocross Championship as he captured his fifth overall win of the season finishing 1-2 in the motos, while Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Eli Tomac earned his sixth overall podium finish in third (2-3), both extending their lead in the championship points standings.

As the gate dropped on 250MX Moto 1, Cianciarulo kicked off his conquest by grabbing his first holeshot of the season aboard his KX™250 and taking off with the lead. Having yet to win the first moto at any round this season, Cianciarulo went on to lead every lap and capture his first Moto 1 victory with an 11-second margin of victory.

Moto 2 saw another solid ride from Cianciarulo as he grabbed his second holeshot of the day and began his charge. After fiercely defending the lead for the first half of the moto, the Florida native played it safe to cross the finish line in second, knowing a 1-2 moto score awarded him the overall and extended his points lead in the championship to 23. Veteran rider Martin Davalos had a rough day at The Wick and was unable to complete the second moto following a crash on Lap 4 and finished the day 33rd overall (22-40).

The win marks Cianciarulo’s sixth overall victory of his career, five of which have come this season alone.

“I’m so pumped to get another overall win under my belt. Both motos started out perfectly after nailing the holeshots, and I was able to gap the field in the first moto. This competition is tough though, so I ended up losing the lead in the second moto. I’m proud of the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team and what we’ve been able to accomplish so far this season. We’re all looking forward to keeping this momentum going into the last half of the season.” – Adam Cianciarulo

“This weekend was difficult for me for sure. The high physical demands of this track got the best of me and I had a few good get-offs, but I won’t give up. That’s not in my blood. Hopefully things come together next weekend at RedBud and we’ll keep pushing forward.” – Martin Davalos

In the 450MX class, Tomac and Joey Savatgy lined up at the gate side by side aboard their KX™450 motorcycles, ready to take on the 40-rider field. As the gate dropped on Moto 1, Tomac and Savatgy shot out in front in second and sixth, respectively. Tomac fell back a few positions after the first turn but quickly made moves into third by the end of the first lap, while Savatgy ran into some mechanical issues forcing him to pull out of the race. Tomac continued to charge for the front, eventually making a pass into second on Lap 8, where he would go on to cross the finish line.

In Moto 2 Tomac started just inside the top-10,. creating a greater challenge to find the front. The points leader didn’t let that slow him down as he quickly began to make his way around the other riders, reaching third place by Lap 7. Tomac worked hard to maneuver around lappers and continued on to finish third in the moto for third overall (2-3). Savatgy had a strong start to Moto 2 but struggled to find his pace on the challenging sand track. Once he found the lines he was comfortable with and established his flow, he was able to push forward from 10th to finish eighth for 13th overall (36-8).

Tomac entered the day with only a 6-point lead in the championship standings but his consistency continues to pay off and his strong rides in the sand this weekend earned him a 26-point cushion and marks the first time in 2019 a rider will sit atop the 450MX class standings for consecutive races.

“Today ended up being a little tougher than I anticipated. The heat combined with the tough demands of a sand track and constantly being pelted with sand and rocks wore me out. I’m happy to be leaving with another podium finish and the points lead. Now that we’re heading into the second half of the season, I’m going to remain focused on this championship and keep striving for those overall wins.” – Eli Tomac

The team and I have been working so hard to get back to where we need to be and dial things in in order to be ready on race day, so I’m disappointed that my overall finish wasn’t better.
