100 word fiction contest continues…. #100WFC Rolling into Life by Tony Heller with illustration by Wayfarer During the early spring up-date shakedown run, the rain-fed Kern River roared and sparkled, hugging the twisting two-lane road. Careening over the rocky river bed, the cascading water leapt from boulder to boulder, disappearing darkly in shoreline eddies, then reappearing in turbulent whirlpools. The full moon peeked in and out from behind the clouds playing sneaky games with my night vision, alternately illuminating the oncoming curves, then casting darkly ominous shadows on the next. My generation partied and raised hell, but I was fortunate enough to be confronted with the fight for freedom and the processes. It made me more aware and attuned to the shit going on behind the party. It’s like sometimes you party, but sometimes you fight. Right now, we’re fighting. Yesterday alone, I help a friend load 4 cords of firewood into his garage yesterday morning, found parts for his ’60 Panhead project, took his fork tubes to the machine shop to be shortened. Met with my Dragon painter and gave him a deposit on his work. I’ve discussed my knucklehead paint project with numerous sources. Looks like I might paint it myself. But then I need to prepare a portion of the shop for painting. Well, for this minute, that’s all, but hang on. The projects never end. It was Halloween so we rolled into Sturgis to the Ugly MC headquarters for a party. Have a fantastic Holiday Season. He faced religion with a soft like satin girl from a temperance league, who climaxed at the slightest touch. After five years on the road and too many fifths of Jack Daniels he began to get it, but too late. He got a call from a past love from Bakersfield, California. They met in a farmer’s barn. So get this, he flat-track raced for several years, but got disillusioned. His brother said something about driving hundreds of miles to race for a costly experience and said, “Fuck it, let’s build a track out by your cabin.” There you have it, buck the system, build your own track and so, Freddie Cuba produced his own races in Deweese for 20 years and then moved.
