KNOXVILLE, Tenn — A group of bikers will head to the streets Sunday to remember and honor the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The “Blue Knights III” is a part of an international motorcycle club comprised of active and retired police officers. The Knoxville chapter of riders is holding a remembrance ride on Sunday at Bootlegger’s Harley Davidson, in West Knoxville. Nearly 3,000 people died in the terrorist attacks, and 400 were emergency workers. In the motorcycle club, 8 members were New York Police Department officers at the time and more of these riders rushed in to help. Robert McCaffery is a member of the Blue Knights III. For 20 years, he has carried a terrifying memory. “It was just a horrendous scene. There was smoke and there was fire. It smelled,” he said. A former captain for the Morris County Sheriff’s Office in New Jersey, Mccaffery like many other first responders volunteered to help search for victims after the attack on the World Trade Center. “There was grey dust everywhere. There were people everywhere. It was all quite disorganized. There was nobody in charge. Nobody in command. You just kind of pick up your spot on the pile and you started picking things up and handing it back,” Mccaffery said. He said that he met up with an NYPD officer in Staten Island before taking a ferry into the city, where much of the devastation was. Even after four decades, the annual motorcycle rally continues to draw thousands of visitors to Tomahawk, where rid­ers can take in the scenic sights of the Northwoods and enjoy everything the area has to offer. This year, a slate of events is set to take place from Thursday, Sept. 16 through Saturday, Sept. 18. If you’re looking to kick off Fall Ride with a bit of tradition, look no further than the Tomahawk Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Bonfire and Brat Fry. The event, featuring brats, cold beverages and live music by Brian McLaughin, is set to take place at SARA Park on Thursday, Sept. 16, from 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. For more information, contact the Chamber at 715-453-5334. All riders are invited to take part in the Thunder Parade on Friday night. Lineup for the parade starts at the Tomahawk School District complex at 5 p.m., with departure at 6 p.m. Riders will wind their way along area backroads before returning to downtown Tomahawk, where W. Wisconsin Ave. will be lined with spectators watching the parade roar through town. Tomahawk Main Street, Inc., is taking the helm for this year’s downtown festivities. Vendors will be set up on 2nd and 3rd Streets, and live music can be found downtown throughout the rally. Second summer with Corona, Southside MC Est 88 Sweden had to be flexible once more with their gathering of long forks. Instead of a hotspot for the show, they made it mobile. Saturday 21st of Aug, 100+ bikes, choppers and pre 84 were welcomed for the ride. However anyone was invited at the clubhouse noon to 3PM, for burgers and a beer. Ozark Moonshine Run Route Distance: 113 miles with 662 curves Gasoline Locations: Harrison, Jasper, Mt. Judea, Deer, Compton Time Frame: 2 hours, 52 minutes The Ozark Moonshine Run is without a doubt the most picturesque route in the Ozarks! The route encompasses parts of Scenic Highway 7 and winds through the deepest parts of the Ozark Mountains. Along the route you can expect to see magnificent views, ancient bluff lines, and the possibility of majestic elk grazing in their natural habitat. Parts of the route make you feel like you have stepped back in time to a slower paced lifestyle. You will see many attractions along the way, so take your time and enjoy the scenery; but be careful of the many curves along this route. Some parts can be tricky and slightly dangerous. Directions: Depart Harrison on Scenic AR Highway 7 South heading to Jasper. Travel through Jasper on AR Highway 7 to AR Highway 374 East on your left. AR Highway 374 will join AR Highway 123 where you will turn right. Follow AR Highway 123 through Mt. Judea (pronounced Judy) until it intersects with AR Highway 7 North. AR Highway 123 splits, so be careful to follow the route leading to AR Highway 7 North. Follow AR Highway 7 North/Highway 16 to the intersection of AR Highway 16 on your left. Highway 16 will take you through the communities of Deer, Nail and Swain. AR Highway 16 intersects with AR Highway 21, where you will travel north into Boxley Valley. Through the valley, be on the lookout for elk that graze the fields and sometimes cross the highway. Follow AR Highway 21 to the intersection of AR Highway 43 North. AR Highway 43 North winds through Ponca and back to Harrison.

The 27th Annual Miracle Ride for Riley Hospital

The ride was a two day, state-wide event to raise funds for Riley. Registration began early Saturday morning before riders took off to enjoy a fabulous summer ride from across the state. Valparaiso was one of the six starting points throughout the state, with the finish line for everyone being Indianapolis. The second day of the event included The Big Ride in which all participants rode around the city. While the Ride itself started in 1994, the event was a first for the Valparaiso location. In past years, Harley-Davidson of Calumet served as Northwest Indiana’s starting point, but since its closing its doors in 2020, Valparaiso Harley-Davidson has stepped in to host. Harley-Davidson of Valparaiso was also deemed a Poker Start, which allowed riders to participate in a poker run. In a poker run, riders played a game of five card stud against other winners for a chance to win $500. In addition, raffles were held and included a 2020 Low Rider as the grand prize. Two UBCO electric motorcycles were also raffled for most money raised and runner-up for most money raised. The Ride was one of many events held by the Miracle Ride Foundation, all of which benefit Riley Hospital for Children. The hospital is the only one in Indiana dedicated specifically to helping sick children. According to the foundation’s website, many services the hospital provides go beyond the allotted budget, and as a result, the hospital receives most of its funds through donations and charity events such as the Ride. “The Harley-Davidson community comes together to help so many great organizations,” Jeff Haggerty, general manager of Harley-Davidson Valparaiso. “Giving our customers a chance

Bootleggers Run Brings Riders, TV Celebrities To Mills County

by Joe Foreman from https://www.opinion-tribune.com Motorcycles & Moonshiners: Motorcycle riders and fans of the popular “Moonshiners” television series were in hog heaven Saturday during the inaugural Bootleggers Run motorcycle rally that began and ended at Loess Hills Harley-Davidson near Pacific Junction. The rally, a fundraiser for the Northeast Elementary School playground project, included appearances by Tim Smith and Josh Owens – cast members from the “Moonshiners” docudrama that’s been airing on the Discovery Channel since 2011. The show features a cast of characters, many who reside in wooded regions of the Appalachian Mountains, that make their own moonshine. Smith is also well known for his legally-produced Climax Moonshine that’s made from a century-old family recipe. Saturday’s motorcycle rally attracted more than 200 riders and included scheduled stops at establishments in Shenandoah and Macedonia and Glenwood’s Keg Creek Brewing Co. Smith and Owens, donned in their trademarked bib overalls, signed autographs and posed for photos at each stop along the rally route.

Oman, a retired Navy lieutenant commander in Wisconsin, reached out to a fellow veteran in Minnesota about the fifth VIPER ride, he learned the man had been diagnosed with cancer and had months to live. VIPER, or Visually Impaired Patriots Experiencing the Road, will hold its fifth annual motorcycle ride on Aug. 22 in Oak Creek at the Oelschlaeger-Dallmann American Legion Post 434, 9327 S. Shepard Ave. The Minnesota man has traveled to the Milwaukee area for every past VIPER event, but his sister was keeping this year’s announcement from him because of his diagnosis, Oman, one of the VIPER ride founders, said. “I messed up her plans because when I didn’t see his application this year, I put together an email and sent it to a batch of people curious about their absence,” Oman said. Now that he knows the ride is happening, despite his diagnosis, that veteran is coming to ride. Motorcycle owners, known as “pilots,” are partnered with a veteran called a “tailgunner.” The duos stay together throughout the day’s events. Volunteers are known as the “groundcrew” and they work to give directions, welcome participants, set up food and drinks, clean up and more. “We’re looking forward to it this year because we missed it last year,” said John Carter, a former Marine and co-founder of the VIPER ride. The 2020 ride was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Initially only for blind veterans, the ride recently became “the VIPER ride plus+” expanding to allow veterans with any physical disability that prevents them from operating a motorcycle.
