This 1968 Husqvarna Viking 360 was the first of the brand’s bikes owned by Steve McQueen. (RM Sotheby’s). McQueen had a particular penchant for Husqvarna motorcycles, like the one he rode in the “On Any Sunday” documentary, and one is coming up for auction at the RM Sotheby’s Monterey, Calif., event on August 13. It’s not just any Husqvarna, but the first one he ever owned. His Solar Productions movie company purchased the 1968 Viking 360 from Swedish motocross rider Bengt Åberg just after he competed in a race on it in California. The single-cylinder two-stroke was fully restored in 2014 and remains in mint condition, so its next owner will have to decide if they want to chance messing it up to find out what it’s like to ride in McQueen’s riding boots. RM Sotheby’s estimates the Husky could sell for up to $100,000, which is a far cry from the millions that many of McQueen’s cars have sold for, but quite a lot for a dirt bike.

The difference between the two events is The Cannonball allows riders to have a support team / trailer with spare parts, tools and shop equipment to follow the rider Coast to Coast. This allows early machines to be repaired and often rebuilt at night before the next days race. In the Cross Country Chase, the Rider has no support and must carry all spare parts, tools and gear on his own bike and make his own roadside repairs as did riders throughout most of history. Yamaha updates its iconic YZ125 for the First Time in 15 Years

Even the Japanese manufacturer admits that this is the first full update the 2022 YZ125 receives in over 15 years, but with its new features, the motorcycle now jumps to the top of the 125cc two-stroke class. It is now more powerful, more ergonomic, and with a more aggressive look. So, what’s new? Well, for starters, the overall design and graphic scheme of the new YZ125, which looks rougher, with the new appearance better highlighting the racing capabilities of the bike. It has a new front and rear fender design and the body panels and radiator shrouds are slimmer. The seat is flatter and the fuel tank narrower, offering an improved riding experience, making it easier to shift body weight and maintain good control of the motorcycle. Yamaha completely redesigned the liquid-cooled 125cc engine, which is more powerful than the one in the 2021 model. All the parts in it are new, including its cylinder body, piston, crankcase, expansion chamber, etc. Moving on to the braking system, that too has also been updated to be lighter and offer a better feel. It has larger front pistons, a redesigned 270mm (10.6 in) front rotor with a 30 percent increase in pad contact area and higher friction pad material. The rear rotor is smaller, with a diameter of 240mm (9.4 in), although it keeps the same braking power. The manufacturer also boasts the revised suspension and improved fueling, thanks to the new, high-precision Hitachi Astemo Keihin PWK38S carburetor with throttle position sensor and 3D-map-controlled CDI unit, for precise ignition timing. First Bagger Racing League Race Goes to Harley-Davidson by a Tiny Margin

Like in the other series, King of the Baggers, this one was a battle between Harley-Davidson and Indian machines and riders. Unlike King of the Baggers, where riders go after each other in a single race, BRL comprises five classes: Hooligan GP, Big Twin GP, Stunt GP, Premier Class Bagger GP, and Pro Stock Bagger. The eyes of the people on-site for the event were, of course, affixed on the last two classes, which allow entry of proper bagger motorcycles, equipped with a fairing and bags. It is here where the most fierce battles were fought and won. The Premier Bagger class race, which was the main event, went to rider Michael Barnes with Hoban Brothers Racing/DTF Performance Harley-Davidson. He rode a race-prepped Road Glide to the win, ending the race just 0.356 seconds ahead of S&S/Indian Motorcycles’ Tyler O’Hara—both riders take part in King of the Baggers as well, but there Barnes seems not to manage things as well as he did this past weekend. It’s worth mentioning Harley led the field for the entire 8-lap duration of the race, despite the fact the Indian trailed at times inches behind. In the BRL race, O’Hara was the only one on the back of an Indian to compete the race, with all the other eight riders chasing the win on the backs of Harleys. Pirelli takes Top Two Positions in Bagger Racing League at Utah Motorsports

Michael Barnes narrowly edged out Tyler O’Hara for the victory by 0.3 of a second. ERDA, Utah (June 30, 2021) – Pirelli Tire North America showed its commitment to racing across all spectrums by dominating the competition in both the Bagger Racing League BAGGER GP Class and the PRO STOCK BAGGER Class at Utah Motorsports Complex on Sunday, June 27. Pirelli controlled the top two positions in BAGGER GP with Michael Barnes racing to victory aboard a Harley Davidson and Indian Motorcycle rider Tyler O’Hara finishing a close second. Both Barnes and O’Hara relied on the performance of Pirelli’s DIABLO Superbike range. In PRO STOCK BAGGER, Benny Carlson rode his Sly Fox-backed Harley Davidson to the top step of the podium with Pirelli shod Oleg Pianykh taking second, also using the DIABLO Superbike Range of tires. Michael Barnes and Tyler O’Hara led the way with a Pirelli one-two finish in the Bagger GP class. “The weekend off started really good and I was able to get pole position,” said Barnes. “I was fast right out of the gate and the switch over to the DIABLO Superbike SCX rear helped us find even more speed on the racetrack. It got hotter heading into the main race, but it seemed to help the tire become even more consistent and proved to be no issue. The whole scheme of Six Ways to Sunday is campaigning one motorcycle in six different kinds of racing. In itself, this is a recipe for being uncomfortable, and I nominated myself to do it. How bad could it really be? Coffee and pancakes gave us the will to live, and we headed back to the track to dry out the bikes for tech inspection. Bowen would ride my 1988 Honda XR200R in the same events in which I would be competing with the super-fresh ’89 Honda XR250R. The ninth annual American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association Vintage Motorcycle Festival & Swap Meet, featuring vintage motorcycle racing on-track, a swap meet off-track, Friday night Bike Night, Saturday bike show, music and more, will be held June 18 to 20, rain or shine, at New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville. Tickets are $25 for a weekend pass, $20 for Saturday only or $10 for Sunday only for ages 13 and older and free for ages 12 and younger. Besides AHRMA racing and festivities, this weekend will feature the first night of NJMP’s Summer Concert Series. Arsenal will perform in the outdoor event space behind the Finish Line Pub from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. June 19. Food will be available from the pub and food trucks and vendors will be on site.
