Easyriders National Invitational Bike Show 2019

The Final Chapter of Re-Birth of a Shovelhead By the Stealth There were bikes from all over the country, California, Texas, Michigan, New York, Virginia just to name a few. There was serious competition here! Every style bike was represented, early style choppers, antiques, club style, baggers, drag and retro stock, they were all here! I think there were eight bikes that won the Peoples’ Choice vote, and they were moved into the Invitational class. I love the Shovelhead, the bike is named GLORY DAYS because it takes me back to some of my GLORY DAYS! Last World War II Great Escape veteran Jack Lyon dies, aged 101

Jack Lyon was captured after his plane crash-landed near Dusseldorf. He was lookout during the breakout bid from Stalag Luft III in 1944, but the escape tunnel was uncovered before he had the chance to get out himself. The Hollywood movie starring Steve McQueen gave us some of the most iconic images of World War II in any movies ever made. Jack’s death is especially poignant as it comes just two weeks before the 75th anniversary of the Great Escape, on March 24. READ the story at Bikernet.com Cantin by Clickinh here and Subscribe

Erik Buell launches electric motorcycle brand

Erik Buell is riding back to motorcycle business with Frederic Vasseur of Formula E and F1 fame and entrepreneur, Francois Terny. Buell is all set to launch an electric motorcycle brand called Fuell. Fuell Flow comes in 11kW (125cc-equivalent) or 35kW (A2-licence equivalent) versions and uses a hub motor on the rear wheel to leave space for 50 litres of integrated storage. Fuell claims a city range of 125 miles for the Flow needing charging at a public charger. It carries an American price of $10,995. The Fuell Fluid is an e-bike with a range of 125 miles at 20mph or 28mph versions producing almost 74ftlb of torque from two 500Wh, removable batteries. The Fluid also uses a virtually maintenance-free carbon belt drive system and internal hub gears. Fluid will cost $3295 in America, with financing options for both bikes favouring usage over ownership through credit, leasing or battery leasing. More will be revealed in the coming months, but Fuell claim that deliveries of the Fluid will start in 2019, with the Flow rolling out in 2021. There’s no mention of whether the bikes will be introduced in Europe.

Motorcycles and Motorcycling in the USSR

Motorcycles and Motorcycling in the USSR from 1939: A Social and Technical History Hardcover – April 16, 2019 – available for Pre-Order on Amazon.com https://www.amazon.com//dp/1787113140/ Motorcycles and Motorcycling in the USSR from 1939 provides the first accessible English language account of motorcycles in the Soviet Union. Concentrating on the wartime and postwar period until 1990, prior to the dissolution of the USSR in 1991, it covers the motorcycles produced, and looks at the way in which they were used at home and exported abroad. Chapters cover wartime, models produced, the social character of Soviet era motorcycling, and wide-ranging sport. With planned rather than market-led production based around copies of pre-war German BMW and DKW models, the industry churned out hundreds of thousands of utilitarian and rugged machines that were very different from the more fashion-orientated machines produced in the West. These motorcycles went under the place names of the producing factories: Ishevsk, Kovrov, Moskva, Minsk and, of course, the large flat twins produced in Irbit and Kiev under the Ural and Dnepr names. With a strong emphasis on Soviet era illustrations, the book provides an insight into a life, based on idealism and ideology that has now passed. Photographs and images, many of them from private family collections, show Soviet bikes as well as popular imports Jawa from Czechoslovakia, and Pannonia from Hungary. Hardcover: 128 pages Publisher: Veloce Publishing Language: English ISBN-13: 978-1787113145 ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Colin Turbett got his first motorcycle at age 15 and has owned, built, and cried over mostly British bikes ever since. He currently looks after a 1949 BSA Gold Star, as well as a modern bike. Colin spent a long career in social work in the West of Scotland through which he was a successful textbook author. In recent years motorcycle trips to Eastern

Merry Fiction: Hogging Santa

Hogging Santa We Wish You a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Santa Claus finds joy and contentment in modern society with a Harley, Faith, Hope and Charity. All right! Something to do this weekend and it involves riding my hog to L.A., I could guarantee the tug-o-war victory – just wrap the rope around me – they would need a cavalry to drag me. I stuffed a backpack with essentials and went to my garage to dust off my 20 year-old H-D. Checking everything on the two-wheels I locked up the house and kicked the beast. Difficult even to lift my leg to kick-start with my belly bothering us – he has to push himself into everything. I parked on the side-stand and stood to my 6’2” height. I held the throttle with two fingers and kicked, the hog roared to life. Sitting on it now I paced onto the street to its beat – good vibrations – ’70s charm seemed to be feeding itself into me.
