Here’s Your Chance to Own a Garage-Kept Harley-Davidson Drag Motorcycle

By General Posts

by Daniel Patrascu from https://www.autoevolution.com

It’s known as the Screaming Eagle Destroyer. It’s a factory, non-stree-legal, purpose-built drag racing motorcycle capable of doing a quarter mile in under ten seconds as if it’s nothing. And it’s incredibly rare.

The motorcycle you see in the gallery above is the drag race-bred VRXSE Screaming Eagle Destroyer put together by Harley’s Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) back in 2006. One that, unlike most others of its kind, has been kept locked up and never used on the strip.

In all its history, there were just a little over 600 units of the Destroyer ever built, and even that was a stretch given the fact Harley initially planned for a production run that was about half that size. So, yes, they are rare, and ones that have been kept as museum pieces can be considered non-existent. But thing is there is at least one such motorcycle in perfect condition, and it’s for sale, on the luxury-oriented DuPont Registry website.

Just like all others of its kind, this dragster motorcycle is powered by the same 79ci (1,300 cc) 165 hp V-twin engine, only it features a wide range of race equipment, including a long stroke flywheel, high compression forged pistons, a pneumatic shifter, and larger throttle bodies, among others.

The bike also comes with other extra features envisioned by CVO, including a stroker crankshaft, a racing transmission with a multi-stage lock up clutch, programmable shift light, and two-stage launch control.

Unlike all other bikes of its kind, it has been kept by its owner in a “museum-like” condition alongside other dragsters, meaning it’s dying to go out and have some fun on the tarmac.

The price for the bike is not listed on the said website, but given the fact one sold as new back in the day for a little over $30,000, don’t expect this one to be a lot cheaper.

IndianxWorkhorse Appaloosa Studded Motorcycle Revealed at Baikal Mile

By General Posts

by Eduard Pana from https://www.autoevolution.com

Earlier this week, Indian announced that it will participate at Baikal Mile Ice Speed Festival with the Appaloosa v2.0. The motorcycle maker only provided one photo of the racing machine, but it has now revealed more details about the collaboration and looks of the model.

The Baikal Mile Ice Festival is a drag-race focused event, in order to see which manufacturer can produce the fastest motorcycle that can run in harsh winter conditions with low temperatures and dodgy terrain.

This idea emerged from some Russians that thought if their country is not suited for tarmac racing, they managed to make a replacement of the salt lake (ahem, Bonneville Slat Flats) with an ice lake. This event had such a great success in 2019, so they decided to make an even better 2nd event with more racing and side action, like ice-drifting, motocross stunts, and many extra shows.

The IndianxWorkhorse racing team traveled a long way to reach the Baikal Lake in Russia to race at the 2nd edition of the Baikal Mile. Even Brice Hennebert, the Appaloosa creator said that “I can’t believe we are actually here. What an amazing place. I am so pleased to finally reveal the new Appaloosa after weeks of hard work to get here. I can’t wait to see Sebastien blast down the 1-mile strip.”

The qualifying runs were done on 27 February. Although problems appeared with the quick-shifter due to vibrations, they canceled the system in order to race. Also, winter studs were lost during the runs from the back wheel and destroyed the blades behind the wheel. Still, with all these mechanical problems, the team qualified for both 1/8 mile and 1 mile races.

Although the race has ended, no official results are yet available, either on the Baikal Mile official site or on the social media, but you can follow the IndianxWorkhorse trip and photos at hashtag #indianxworkhorse.

5.50! Larry “Spiderman” McBride Smashes Motorcycle Record

By General Posts

Larry “The Spiderman“ McBride is the most decorated Top Fuel Motorcycle racer ever with 19 championships to his credit and multiple records as well. This type of legacy is built on big moments and McBride just added another to his resume by breaking his own world record with a legendary pass in the 5.50s during the Man Cup Finals at South Georgia Motorsports Park.

Recently at the Manufacturers Cup MTC Engineering Nationals at Rockingham Dragway in North Carolina McBride laid down a pavement-shredding 5.607 at 263.10 MPH to win the event. During that race, McBride reset the record multiple times before lighting the boards with the 5.607 lick. This level of performance was totally unheard of in the Top Fuel Motorcycle ranks and it made the numerous record-setting passes at one event even more impressive.

After the Rockingham event, people began to wonder if McBride could push his nitro-fed machine into the 5.50s at the Man Cup Finals. McBride wasted no time answering that question taking advantage of the near-perfect conditions to run a 5.507 at 264.96 MPH. This resets his own record by a tenth and tacked on some MPH for good measure. This new record might not ever be eclipsed unless McBride does it himself again on his way to a 20th Top Fuel Motorcycle title.

Harley-Davidson FXDR drag bikes dominate in Pro Stock Motorcycle Debut

Hines Defeats Krawiec in All-Harley Final at Denver NHRA Nationals

MORRISON, Colo. (July 22, 2019) – An all-new motorcycle body added momentum to the Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle®/Vance & Hines drag racing team as riders Andrew Hines and Ed Krawiec stormed through the Pro Stock Motorcycle field at the Dodge Mile-High NHRA Nationals Presented By Pennzoil at Bandimere Speedway aboard a pair of brand-new Harley-Davidson FXDR drag bikes. In the competition debut for the Harley FXDR bikes, Hines defeated Krawiec in an all-Harley final to take his sixth win of the season and extend his points lead in the class.

“Changing the bike mid-season can be a gamble because it can really affect the aerodynamics, handling and the rider’s view down the track,” said Hines. “Plus, we’ve been winning a lot with the Street Rod bikes. It took months of development to get the FXDR ready for the track, with some instrumental input from Harley-Davidson engineers and designers. We took a lot of time to make sure the fit and quality would be what Harley-Davidson expects out of us. They entrusted us to roll out a new model and that shows how strong our bond is and solidifies their commitment to our program and to NHRA.”

The new Harley-Davidson FXDR drag racing bodywork was a joint development project between Vance & Hines and the Harley-Davidson Product Development Center that began shortly after the street-going Harley-Davidson FXDR 114 model was introduced as a new model for 2019. The FXDR 114 is a high-performance cruiser based on the Softail platform that combines the unrelenting power of the Milwaukee-Eight® 114 engine with the liberal use of new weight-saving aluminum and composite components to amplify every aspect of performance. After approval by the NHRA and pre-race testing, the FXDR bodywork was fitted to the team’s race chassis one day before the Mile-High Nationals as a replacement for the team’s Harley-Davidson Street Rod® model bodywork.

“It was a big challenge to balance aerodynamics, rider ergonomics and styling to achieve a great FXDR body that was capable of carrying on where the Street Rod left off, but we have great engineers and designers here at the Product Development Center that were up to the task, and we’ve had great collaboration with the Vance & Hines team from the start. Hat’s off to the entire team for making this debut race a special one for everyone involved,” said Jim Brendelson, Harley-Davidson Chief Engineer, Core Engineering.

Hines qualified fourth for the event with a best run of 7.232 seconds at 186.20 mph. Krawiec qualified seventh with a best elapsed time (ET) of 7.239 seconds at 186.28 mph. In Sunday eliminations, Hines found a great tune-up and posted consecutive 7.1-second ETs to defeat Cory Reed and Hector Arana and ran down defending Pro Stock Motorcycle champion Matt Smith in the semi-finals. The win over Smith was the milestone 500th career round win for Hines. Krawiec defeated Karen Stoffer, Jerry Savoie and Hector Arana, Jr. to set up the fourth all-Harley final of the season. Hines ran 7.174 to best Krawiec’s 7.222 to take the win over his teammate, for the fourth time this season.

A five-time Pro Stock Motorcycle Champion, Hines has been dominating the class in the first eight races of this season, posting a 25-2 record in eliminations and winning six finals to bump his record-setting career total to 54 wins. Following the event at Denver Hines leads the Pro Stock Motorcycle field with 847 points. Krawiec is in second place with 734 points. Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines rider Angelle Sampey lost in the first round at Denver and is in eighth place in season points with 346.

The Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines team will be back on the track with its Harley FXDR drag bikes July 26-28 at the NHRA Sonoma Nationals at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, Calif.

The Final Chapter of Re-Birth of a Shovelhead
By the Stealth

There were bikes from all over the country, California, Texas, Michigan, New York, Virginia just to name a few. There was serious competition here! Every style bike was represented, early style choppers, antiques, club style, baggers, drag and retro stock, they were all here!

I think there were eight bikes that won the Peoples’ Choice vote, and they were moved into the Invitational class.

I love the Shovelhead, the bike is named GLORY DAYS because it takes me back to some of my GLORY DAYS!
