Mystery of the Effective Detective

Doggone life of the furry government servant with inputs from Hot Air Cold Love at https://hotaircoldlove.substack.com/ Apparently, dogs are not detectives. This thought crime just got solved. So, are all the decades of man’s best friend working alongside in forests and mountains, in rain and sunshine, in war-zones and disaster rescue efforts, the hound that will follow “his master’s voice” to hell– all just myth, legend and an old husband’s tale? As per the research and the statistics, the dog’s days of working as a police dog are over. Maybe now — the customs officer will have to smell your luggage and bark orders if deemed unfit for boarding your flight. Maybe its the humans who are causing the loss of canine jobs (which is my gist of the new report mentioned below)?? Can you imagine all the working animals replaced with humans instead of machines? No more canary in a coal mine. No more snakes eating rats in paddy fields. No more ox ploughing farms, no more donkeys or mules carrying fool’s gold (also called simply as a fool), no more horse carriages nor armed cavalry, no legionnaire crossing deserts on a camel…. So what would you write? A western or a historical fiction or a scifi or a satire or just adopt a rescue dog to play with during writer’s block? Well, he could take you out for a walk and we know that’s always good for creativity (New Yorker story link). Anyways, chew on this news for now! Police Say Dogs Help Solve Crimes. Little Evidence Supports That. In 2020, Salt Lake City abruptly terminated its canine unit for pursuing and apprehending suspects. Not much changed. https://undark.org/2023/07/24/police-say-dogs-help-solve-crimes-little-evidence-supports-that/ * * * * * * * * * * * * Send us your 100 word fiction and win […]

Ontario Biker travelling across Canada with Furry Friend

Ontario nuclear operator travelling on motorcycle across Canada with canine friend Lyna Smith recently made a stop in Quesnel with Monster Yogi Bear by Rebecca Dyok from https://www.cloverdalereporter.com It was no ordinary sight at the Quesnel Visitor Centre where Lyna Smith departed on her Russian-made motorcycle with a sidecar containing her four-legged friend, Monster Yogi Bear. Smith has been traveling across Canada with her Shar Pei rescue dog on a Ural motorcycle since late April. The pair from Port Elgin, Ont. arrived in B.C. after venturing down the Dempster Highway. In Tuktoyaktuk, N.W.T., Smith took a swim in the Arctic Ocean with Monster Yogi Bear taking a quick lick and making a face of disgust due to the water’s saltiness. “We went east first and my plan was to hit all three oceans,” Smith said. “We’re now headed down towards the Pacific as our third ocean.” Smith had been planning a trip across Canada for some time and knew she couldn’t leave Monster Yogi Bear behind. She even made him a cover for his sidecar with windows to protect him from the elements and mapped out all the pet stores along the way. “There’s been a lot of firsts for him,” Smith said with a laugh, noting Monster Yogi Bear was even in a helicopter over Mount Robson.“He’ll be able to say he’s peed in every province and territory except Nunavut.” Travelling with Monster Yogi Bear holds extra special meaning to Smith, who is widowed. She had told herself no more dogs when her first Shar Pei died of renal failure shortly after she lost her husband to cancer. When a friend, however, sent her a picture of another Shar Pei from the Owen Sound Animal Shelter where her husband had gotten her first Shar Pei, Smith had a change

Puppy’s Off the Leash Tour by Rogue and Friends We decided that since we were in California we might as well visit some places before going home. Started by riding CA 1, or Pacific Coast Highway. Part 1 of a Trampster Run to CA by Rogue and Friends I received a text message from brother Berry Wardlaw at Accurate Engineering. “Do you want to go on a Trampster Run?” I replied “Yes” which got me another text. “Don’t you want to know where?” I replied, “NO, just want to know when we are leaving and are expecting to get back.” Next message “I will let you know in a couple of days.” A Trampster Ride will have a starting date and a tentative return date. It will also have a destination, but not the shortest route to it. CLICK Here to read this Photo Feature Article on Bikernet.com Riding Free for 25 years. Can you Ride with a Pet on your Motorcycle?

ASK A TROOPER: “Motorcycle Riding Dog” by Ryan Janke from https://kfgo.com/ Question: Can someone with a motorcycle permit have their small dog riding on the motorcycle or would that be considered a passenger? We have already purchased a helmet and leather jacket for this lucky pup! Thank you for your response. Answer: First of all, where will this dog be seated and how? I see less issues if you are talking about a motorcycle side car or a motorcycle trailer equipped with a kennel. But if you are talking about on the actual motorcycle with you, I don’t think this would be very safe for you or your pet. If you are going to carry a passenger, there are a few key items to keep in mind: Equip and Adjust Your Motorcycle: A passenger seat and footrests are required by law. Adjust tire pressure and suspension settings for the additional weight. (Do not exceed weight limitations specified in the owner’s manual.) Readjust mirrors. Passenger Preparation: Provide protective riding gear: eye protection, a DOT-approved helmet, boots, gloves, long riding pants and a high-visibility motorcycle jacket. Passengers under age 18 are required by law to wear a DOT-approved helmet. Small children are required by law to be able to reach both footrests with their feet while sitting on the passenger seat. Getting On and Off the Motorcycle: Start the engine before the passenger gets on. Squeeze the front brake while the passenger gets on or off the bike. Passengers should get off the bike before the operator. Passenger Safety Tips: Hold operator’s waist or hips, or motorcycle’s passenger hand-holds. Keep feet on footrests at all times, including while stopped. Keep hands and feet away from hot or moving parts. When turning, look over the operator’s shoulder in the direction of the turn.

K-9 division of DWR gets help from Christian Motorcyclists Association

by Elle Cabrera from https://www.thespectrum.com K-9 division of DWR gets help from Christian Motorcyclists Association for dog vests The St. George chapter of the Christian Motorcyclists Association hosted a motorcycle ride and fundraiser Saturday for K-9 vests. The CMA-Truth messengers are a group of motorcyclists who travel all over Utah to bless motorcycles and participate in fundraising to help the community. They partnered with the Vietnam Veterans of St. George and Zion Harley Davidson to host this event, which raised more than $1,500 for protective K-9 vests for the Division of Natural Resources and Wildlife. “We want to support law enforcement in any way we can. We go around to local police departments, the St. George Police department, blessing their motorcycles and their staff,” said Steven Gaither, president of the CMA chapter in St. George. Gaither is also retired from law enforcement. The fundraiser had food provided by the Veterans and K-9 demonstrations done by the DNR. They brought both tracking and defense dogs to showcase the need for protective vests. “All of our dogs to tracking, they all do article search and detection work. So, wildlife detection is our specialty in the detection field,” Conservation officer and Lead K-9 trainer Josh Carver said. These officers specialize in looking for bear poachers and searching for people out in the wild. Often, these dogs will track remains and possibly the poachers themselves which means they’re searching for someone who is potentially armed. These vests can make the difference between life and death for these dogs. “Tracking is another thing we take pride in. That’s something that we either do for search and rescue, which we love to help when we can, but we do a lot of tracking bad guys-fugitives, trespasser, you name it,” Carver said. Tracking is a large part
