The Poker Run & Raffle for Central Vermont Families replaces CVHHH’s annual Seasons of Life Fashion Show, which raised over $50,000 in its 20th year in 2019. Proceeds from the inaugural Poker Run & Raffle will benefit CVHHH’s Maternal-Child Health program. As part of this event, CVHHH is raffling a 2021 Harley Davidson Forty-Eight Sportster 1200X. Raffle tickets are $100 each. Don’t ride? Tickets to the after party and barbecue at the Capital City Country Club cost $25. • $50 to ride – registration deadline is Thursday, September 10. • Poker Run starts and ends at the Capital City Country Club (formerly Montpelier Elks Club). • Registration opens at 10:00 a.m. Kickstands up at 11:00 a.m. • Poker Run prizes: Best hand wins $500 cash. 2nd best wins $250, and 3rd best wins a $100 gift card. • The Poker Run will be led by Circuit Sponsor, the Rock Solid Crew of the Iron Order Motorcycle Club. The 27th Annual Miracle Ride for Riley Hospital

The ride was a two day, state-wide event to raise funds for Riley. Registration began early Saturday morning before riders took off to enjoy a fabulous summer ride from across the state. Valparaiso was one of the six starting points throughout the state, with the finish line for everyone being Indianapolis. The second day of the event included The Big Ride in which all participants rode around the city. While the Ride itself started in 1994, the event was a first for the Valparaiso location. In past years, Harley-Davidson of Calumet served as Northwest Indiana’s starting point, but since its closing its doors in 2020, Valparaiso Harley-Davidson has stepped in to host. Harley-Davidson of Valparaiso was also deemed a Poker Start, which allowed riders to participate in a poker run. In a poker run, riders played a game of five card stud against other winners for a chance to win $500. In addition, raffles were held and included a 2020 Low Rider as the grand prize. Two UBCO electric motorcycles were also raffled for most money raised and runner-up for most money raised. The Ride was one of many events held by the Miracle Ride Foundation, all of which benefit Riley Hospital for Children. The hospital is the only one in Indiana dedicated specifically to helping sick children. Seventh Annual Riding for Warriors event supporting Veterans

The group surpassed its initial goal, raising more than $73,000 to help veterans and their families. To honor those who’ve served, a group of motorcycle riders are making their way from New York City to Washington, D.C. and back. The first stop Saturday night was at Battlefield Harley Davidson in Gettysburg. The first 200 miles of their trip is complete, all to benefit Hope for the Warriors, specifically the Warrior’s Wish program, funding requests from wounded veterans. “It could be as simple as specialty workout gear, bicycle. It could be something like woodworking equipment,” Michael Nehlsen, organizer of Riding for Warriors said. It’s Nehlsen’s seventh year helping fund those wishes. “This year, unlike other years, I’ve actually invited some of my friends, colleagues and other veterans to ride with me,” Nehlsen said. While planning this year’s first stop, he met Sandy Sipe, whose son Lance Corporal Jamie Sipe of Camp Hill died in 2017. “He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Gulf War era who honorably served five years from 18 until he turned 23 years old,” Nehlsen said. His family was recognized by the organization, including seven-year-old son Austin, who was gifted a motorized bike and money for a trust account. “We will never forget this and moving forward we will pay it forward to others and I think it’s something great for our family to feel that someone else is honoring our, my son,” Sipe said. The 13th Annual Cruisin’ for Kids kicked off on Saturday August 14, 2021, off Clinton Highway, benefiting the Mission of Hope’s efforts to support families in need. KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Engines roared down the highway in Knoxville over the weekend as trucks, cars and motorcycles gathered for an event meant to help children in need. It was the 13th Annual Cruisin’ for Kids event benefiting the Mission of Hope’s work to support families in need across East Tennessee. The event wasn’t just to help raise funds for the nonprofit, though. It was also a competition to see who had the best vehicles in a variety of categories. Awards included categories like the Top 3 Rat Rods, the Top 3 Motorcycles, the Top 3 Trucks, the Top 3 imports, the Top 3 Daily Drivers, the People’s Choice Award and the Best Unfinished. “Our money is raised through registration for cars, we have a silent auction and we sell t-shirts,” said Mary Anne Gamble, an organizer of the event. The 26th Annual Harley Party, an Amarillo staple, returned after being canceled last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Event organizers said turnout for the event was good. Live music, food, vendor booths, and a drawing for a chance to win a motorcycle were all on hand for the activities. The best part about the event, it directly benefits Family Support Services here in Amarillo. “Well we’re just excited to be out and providing this event again,” said Jim Womack, CEO of Family Support Services. “It’s not only a fundraiser but it’s a way to thank our supporters and the community. You know, and show them a good time and, you know, great bands and great food and it’s the drinks and it’s just a great time for everybody.”

Motorcycle ride at Pocono Raceway benefits the community

The annual Pocono Raceway Motorcycle Ride took place Saturday in Monroe County. Riders across the commonwealth came to ride on the track as well as indulge in a surf and turf meal. The ride started at Pocono Mountain Harley-Davidson in Tannersville, then went to the track for a few laps and then back to the motorcycle business. “Well for are family, it’s giving back to the community and our employees are involved. It’s just a great thing to do, you know? We see a lot of suffering and we hope that what we do helps the community,” Pocono Mountain Harley-Davidson president Jim Schlier said. Benefits from the event went to Valor, the Pennsylvania State Police’s camp cadet, and the Stroud Area Regional Police Department.

All the proceeds benefit The Friendly Door and its Meals On Wheels program. Dozens participated to support the cause. For company service writer Bobbie Gilmore, the Red River Harley Davidson poker run ride has been something she’s been doing for as long as she can remember. At this year’s 33rd annual ride, she and others said it felt good to be out riding together again. “Everyone that knows Red River knows this is a nostalgic ride for us,” Gilmore said. “Everyone wants to be a part of it and get in on it, and you just tie in just by being here and we’re all a family together riding.” The event started with an 80 mile motorcycle ride, followed by lunch and raffles. The ride has only gotten cancelled three times in the past, one being last year due to the pandemic. “COVID killed it earlier, and they just got cleared,” Gilmore said. “So they got cleared, we’re ready to go, let’s do it.” “It really has a big turnout,” Tom Venhaus, a chairman for The Friendly Door, said. “For them to give up their time on a Sunday to do the ride and then to come here and we do lunch.” This year, the proceeds from the poker run will go to The Friendly Door Senior Center of Iowa Park. Gilmore said, “It benefits The Friendly Door in Iowa Park. Public Safety meeting discusses illegal dirt bikes and excessive noise

by Carolyn Noel from https://www.thereminder.com CHICOPEE – A Public Safety meeting took place to discuss illegal dirt bikes, motorcycles, speeding and excessive noise in the City of Chicopee on May 19. City Councilor William Courchesne, Ward 7, has been an active participant in the fight against this issue. At the City Council meeting on May 4, Courchesne spoke on the many phone calls he has received from upset residents in his ward. He also helped with updating the Code of the City of Chicopee to strengthen and modernize many noise ordinances. During the Public Safety meeting, residents were given the chance to voice their concerns on illegal dirt bikes, motorcycles, speeding and noise. Members of the Chicopee Police Department were also in attendance to respond and answer questions. One resident spoke on the danger of dirt bikes speeding along public streets. “They’re turning our public streets into their playgrounds,” she said. Attendee Gerald Lavoie agreed on the danger of dirt bikes speeding on streets, but also proposed that the city give them a safe space to ride. “The kids need a place to ride,” he said. Lavoie suggested opening up land for people to ride their dirt bikes safely by Westover Air Reserve Base, near Szot Park or anywhere else that could be accommodated. Resident David Perault spoke on his motorcycle-related concerns at the meeting. He said that from April through November the noise is “crazy.” He even compared the area he lives in to a speed race. “My apartment unfortunately faces the Chicopee River and what I like to call the Indianapolis 500,” said Perault. “These guys are flying.” He spoke on the excessive motorcycle noise that he had to deal with during the COVID-19 lockdown when he was home.
