ST. PADDY’S DAY BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for March 17th, 2022

Hey,

This is going to get strange as if it isn’t already. You would think we would be done with Wars, but not so Kemosabe. Although, I have a flash. A Ukrainian cease-fire is being discussed. Wait, Putin says no.

Also strange in March are several discoveries by my strange self. Yesterday was my Birthday. I turned 74, which has special significance for any old biker. But get this, a few days before the 16th Daylight Savings Time went into effect, hopefully forever, then the 15th was the Ids of March, or the day Socrates was murdered. Today, is St. Paddy’s day, the day Saint Patrick died (I haven’t researched the cause of his death). And finally, a week after my birthday, or thereabouts Spring will kick in. For the first time in 74 years I’m proud of my birthday.

Okay, let’s hit the news. It’s going to get strange.

FROM THE JAMES BOND ARCHIVES— Did you finally check out the Triumph motorcycle stunt action in the latest Bond movie ?

Did you know Timothy Dalton’s James Bond movie “The Living Daylights” (1987) was critically successful and did better than the preceding two 007 movies at the box office – though not as big as Sir Sean Connery’s adventures in the role, yet it is still considered a lot more “Authentic Portrayal” of Bond than previous movies in the series.

From reviews:
Unlike Sir Roger Moore, who had played Bond as more of a light-hearted playboy, Dalton’s portrayal of Bond was darker and more serious. Dalton pushed for renewed emphasis on the gritty realism of Ian Fleming’s novels instead of fantasy plots and humor.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093428/

Trivia
Timothy Dalton was originally considered for the role of James Bond in the late 1960s, after Sir Sean Connery left the role, following You Only Live Twice (1967). Dalton was screen-tested by Albert R. Broccoli for On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969), but he turned down the part, as he thought he was too young.

He was also considered for Diamonds Are Forever (1971), but turned it down again, still feeling he was too young. He was considered again for the role in For Your Eyes Only (1981), when for a while, it was unclear whether Sir Roger Moore would return. However, Dalton declined at that time, as there was no script (or even first draft).

Dalton was offered the role again in 1983 for Octopussy (1983), and yet again in 1985 for A View to a Kill (1985), but had to decline the role both times due to previous commitments.

NEW IN THE NATIONAL MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM— In 1911 most motorcycle shops were on main streets in downtown areas. Big show windows sported reverse- painted, gold leaf lettering announcing the name of the dealer and what brands were offered.

Walking by on the sidewalk, you’d see shiny new bikes, elevated a bit, displayed behind glass; jewels in a showcase. Walking in, on display would be Harley-Davidson singles and the just released V-Twin. Bikes might be on display in a row angled to the wall. Showcases would display accessories behind glass. wheels and tires might hang nearby to one side.

You might be able to glimpse a small workshop out back with a bike or two on stands in for service. This 1911 7A or one like it might have been there. A silent gray fellow with crisp, bright pinstriping, gleaming nickel plating and a fresh leather saddle.

And just eight years into production the “Silent Gray Fellow” was already an iconic image.

The big brother 7D model showed off Harley’s newer, larger V-twin design, but it was to have serious technical problems and would be “recalled,” retooled and re-released a couple of years later. The 7A single stuck with what Harley-Davidson had initially produced; a small reliable belt drive single cylinder motorcycle.

With 30 cubic inches and 4 horsepower the 7A was a comfortable and economical means of transportation. Acetylene lighting, a bulb horn and a luggage rack were typical accessories. Chain drive would not be employed until 1913.

This early Harley-Davidson is graciously on loan to the National Motorcycle Museum from the Jill & John Parham Collection. It’s part of a very large grouping of 100 years of The Motor Company’s production of machines and memorabilia, posters and signage you can enjoy on your next visit.

WAS ETHANOL FUEL AN EMPTY PROMISE?–Bring up the subject of gasoline in the company of folks who drive vintage cars and the rumble of conversation will start low. Soon it builds into a great cacophony of voices lamenting the ethanol-laced fuels currently occupying most pumps across the U.S.

The concern with ethanol in fuel typically centers around the deposits left when evaporation takes place, or how aging rubber fuel system components tend to degrade once ethanol starts chewing away at them. There’s even more to it, though, as Engineering Explained tells it. The YouTube channel’s latest deep dive into some recent studies on ethanol fuels is more than a little enlightening.

The core of what host Jason Fenske discusses in two studies: one done by a team at University of Wisconsin Madison and a second by the Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA study originated in 2010, and the key finding from it that there is a 21 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions when comparing gasoline vs. ethanol in a combustion engine. That sounds significant, but the University of Wisconsin Madison study that published just last month paints a different picture. The Wisconsin study swings the opposite direction by concluding that if one considers the entire process of ethanol fuel production, such biofuels in combustion engines actually emit 24 percent more carbon into the atmosphere.

The critical factor here is that of land conversion for the growth of corn to make ethanol fuel. For example, it could be farm land that was sitting fallow or was wild before being cleared, tilled, and planted. That clearing releases carbon that the plants had stored in various manners, along with the emissions of the machinery used to perform the work.

Even the best case scenario of the 2010 EPA study had a long tail on it. For ethanol fuels to break even after the initial spike in emissions, and relatively small reduction while in use, took 14 years. For the actual 21 percent reduction in greenhouse gasses would require keeping the same pace for another 14 years. Twenty-eight years is a long time, but given that in actual implementation ethanol is only a fractional amount of what we get from the pump—just 10% in most cases—it could take even longer to break even. In the best-case scenario it could mean 2 percent better emissions in 28 years. Not nothing, but hardly a magic bullet.

Of course, just two studies are not sufficient to make firm conclusions about this complex issue.

Is ethanol so terrible? Hardly. It has strong value as an octane booster and for better oxygenating fuel ,which can slightly boost efficiency. What many studies eventually point to is switching away from corn to a different crop for the production of ethanol; switchgrass, for example, can offer a break-even timeline that’s almost immediate and potentially stands to triple the reduction in greenhouse gasses in just three years.

Good science and engineering is about responding to the reality of the data—no different than how we learned that polished intake runners are actually bad for fuel mixture and flow going into an engine, changing the conventional wisdom. Ethanol is likely not going away anytime soon, but it seems there’s good cause to better scrutinize how effective our current biofuel strategy is in terms of meeting its stated goals.

MAKE SUMMER PLANS: 13th Annual Collector Car Appreciation Day to Be Celebrated July 8, 2022

The SEMA Action Network (SAN) announced that the next Collector Car Appreciation Day (CCAD) will be officially celebrated on July 8, 2022. The date will mark the thirteenth consecutive commemoration in what is now an annual holiday to raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society.

Whether public or private, plan and submit the details of your automotive-inspired July celebration at no cost and discover more about this nationwide occasion on the website: semasan.com/CCAD.

Participating organizers will be awarded a copy of the Congressional resolution for display at their registered event.

–SEMA

I stay a member of SEMA because of their legislative connection to the car industry. Many SEMA members are not happy with the organization’s legislative efforts, but recently they’ve improved. I keep hoping for someone who will demand climate transparency and end the doom, so we can go back to honoring all that fossil fuels do for the world.

NEWS FROM THE BIKERNET NIRVANA–Fear Stress, False Evidence Appearing Real

Over the last few days, I have allowed fear and stress to consume My Life. I became part of the problem not the solution. Unfortunately, the fear and stress landed me in emergency, and I now must make some big changes. I have written the following to get me back on track and I hope it helps you if you need it too.

For every minute I give into fear and stress I lose 60 seconds of Peace of Mind.

I Love this acronym; how often do we give so much energy to fear. We get caught up on a problem and then focus on the problem and let it escalate from something small to something absolutely consuming our mind.

Richard Carlson wrote a book called “Don’t sweat the small stuff and it’s all small stuff,” which is a book of how not to let little things take over your life. Life is a choice, one great choice is how are we going to handle challenges and obstacles. Are we going to become part of the problem or part of the solution, are we going to let doubt and fear consume our every waking moment or are we going to pause, go within with Faith and Trust and Know that we have the answer we need to overcome any adversity?

One of my favorite Napoleon Hill quotes is “within every adversity is the seed for equal or greater benefits.” Basically, he is saying that there is an opportunity to rise above any situation, not only learn from the negative experience, but we must move to a Higher level of Consciousness and grow. I always say take that seed and grow. Today is a clean brand-new slate, today we can choose to let go of the false fears and stress of the past.

I give Thanks for this new level of confidence, this inner Peace of Mind. Today is My Day!
And So it Is

JOHNNY LEWIS KICKS OFF FULL-SEASON ASSAULT ON AFT PRODUCTION TWINS CHAMPIONSHIPS–

Top-five for Lewis while Build. Train. Race. action begins with BTR Select at Volusia Half Mile

Inclement Florida weather during Daytona Bike Week delayed the start of the 2022 American Flat Track National Championship, but it didn’t stop the season from commencing for Royal Enfield’s Build. Train. Race. program and the Moto Anatomy X Powered by Royal Enfield crew. Johnny Lewis, aiming for a full-season assault on the AFT Production Twins championship, carded a solid fifth-place finish at the Volusia Half-Mile while the BTR women gave a preview of the 2022 action to come.

After a landmark year in 2021, where Johnny Lewis and the Moto Anatomy X team took on selected rounds of the American Flat Track Championship aboard the Royal Enfield Twins FT motorcycle, even celebrating a historic win at Lima Half Mile, the crew is ready to take on the full Production Twins class season in 2022.

Despite some setbacks during the 10-lap Mission Production Twins Main Event at Volusia Speedway Park, Lewis utilized his experience on the track to manage his way to a solid finish. What looked like a possible podium eventually gave way to a fifth-place on the night, a respectable start to the new season.

“That was a rough main event to manage,” Lewis said. “But we have our eye on the long game and we’re happy to be starting the championship with some points. We’re really looking forward to the next round, the Texas Half Mile this weekend. Everything is bigger in Texas, and I want the biggest trophy I can get.”

Build. Train. Race. Flat Track got things started with the BTR Select exhibition at the Volusia Half Mile.

ROYAL ENFIELD BUILD. TRAIN. RACE.

The official BTR Flat Track season has yet to commence, as many of the newcomers to the program are still in the Build and Train portions of the program. The Volusia Half-Mile served as a “BTR Select” prequel to the season, offering the ladies of BTR Flat Track returning from the previous season, and any racers ready to compete ahead of schedule, the opportunity to get on the track.

Return riders Jillian Deschenes, Jaycee Jones, Lanakila MacNaughton, Malary Lee, Erin Ferris, Nean Kiskela and Gabrielle Hughes were joined by newcomer Alex Bumpus McDonald for BTR Select at the Volusia Half Mile.

The 2022 season appears to have picked up right where it left off, with Jillian Deschenes and Jaycee Jones dueling for the win. Jones managed to turn the quickest lap time in the main event, but it was Deschenes who led when it mattered—at the checkered flag. The race also saw a surprise performance from Lanakila MacNaughton, who kept the lead duo in sight en route to a strong podium finish.

“It’s great to see the BTR women on the track again,” Poland commented. “It’s going to be even more exciting when we see the full field out there for the first official round, which will take place at the I-70 Half Mile in Missouri, April 23. We can’t wait to see what happens when we throw all this new talent in the mix; it’s going to be an amazing season for Royal Enfield Build. Train. Race.”

CLIMATE DOOM DEBATES ARE FLOURISHING–I recently watched Alex Epstein debate Prof. Dressler from Texas regarding fossil fuels and climate alarmism. At least the debates are beginning.

I want to take the doom out of the equation, and Alex presented several good points. There’s no way America can save the planet. Without the doom, we can do as he said, a test. Take a city, a region or even a whole state and test unreliables. They need to stand or fail on their own merits, not be forced behind threats of doom.

Several reports are showing no warming since 2014…

QUICK, OPEN THE BANDIT’S CANTINA BAD JOKE LIBRARY–A Very Elaborate Funeral

Bill died, leaving a will that provided $30,000 for an elaborate funeral. As the last of the visitors departed the services, his wife, Lynne, turned to her dearest friend, Sue and said, “Well, I think Bill would be pleased.”

“I’m sure you’re right,” replied Sue, who then lowered her voice and leaned in close. “How much did this really cost?”

“All of it,” said Lynne. “All thirty thousand.”

“No!” Sue exclaimed. “I mean, it was very nice, but $30,000?”

Lynne replied, “Yes. The funeral was $6,500; I donated $500 to the church and the wake, food and drinks were another $500. The rest went for the Memorial Stone.”

Sue computed quickly and asked, “$22,500 for a Memorial Stone? My goodness, how big is it?”

“Two and a half carats.”

NEWS FROM THE JUNGLE OF LAW TIGERS–Practice Safe Riding with These Motorcycle Safety Tips

Important motorcycle safety tips
Here are some of the most useful tips on how to stay safe while out on the road:

ATGATT

You heard us. ATGATT stands for ‘All The Gear All The Time’, and it is one of the best ways to make sure your riding career is a long one. Pants, gloves, boots, and jackets that are specifically designed for motorcycle riding will not shred if you skid along the ground, while most other materials will. That should be enough to convince you.

DO A PRE-TRIP CHECK ON YOUR MOTORCYCLE—The Spring Alert…

We like to use another acronym (TCLOCS) to help us remember what to check on our bike before hitting the open road:

Tires and Wheels
Controls
Lights and Electrical
Oils and other fluids
Chassis
Sidestand

Additionally, make sure that if you are riding a bike you aren’t familiar with, that you get comfortable with the height, weight, and body structure of the motorcycle before you start riding it in a live traffic scenario.

RIDE DEFENSIVELY

If you follow proper safety training and riding rules, it is more likely that your greatest source of danger will be other motor vehicles especially in the Spring.

Always be on the lookout for how traffic is moving, and plan for unpredictable moves. For example, while at an intersection, if a vehicle is moving towards you, you might have to consider how to exit without harming you or any other motorists. Similarly, make sure that you keep a safe two-second or more distance between yourself and any other cars to avoid quick-braking collisions.

FOLLOW ALL LAWS AND RULES OF THE ROAD

We know no one wants a lecture, but just remember these rules are here for everyone’s safety. Speeding and illegal lane changes are two of the leading causes of motorcycle crashes. Here’s a quick list of things to mind (among others):

Don’t drink and drive.
Don’t text and drive.
Follow the speed limit, especially around other motorists.
Don’t tailgate or let someone tailgate you.
Use proper turn signals and lane change techniques
Stay in your lane while taking corners.
Be super-aware of left-hand turns situations. And know that many motorists haven’t been focused on motorcycles for almost six months.

BE AWARE OF WEATHER CONDITIONS

Another leading cause of both single and multiple-vehicle crashes is inclement weather. Make sure to check the forecast before you head out, and if there is rain or snow either avoid riding or bring appropriate gear.

Similarly, if you are out during bad conditions, adjust how you ride. Increase your distance, go a bit lighter on the breaks, and reduce your speed. Overall, you should always be aware of your surroundings, but this is especially important when the weather is bad.

BE EXTRA CAUTIOUS MAKING LEFT TURNS AT INTERSECTIONS

The number one cause of multiple-vehicle collisions involving motorcycles are riders being hit by a motorists making left-hand turns.

Watch it, as you approach any intersection. If someone is indicating a left-hand turn assume they don’t see you. Move to the right and keep your eyes on them…

Watch any approaching motorists even if they are not signaling. You never know.

USED VEHICLE PRICES REPORT–Folks are already attacking people for ’buying big ol trucks and SUVs in this day and age’.. News flash, fuckers.. Cars are so fucking expensive in the past year, I bought the first half ass decent vehicle I could find for less than $5000… I didn’t really get to choose what kind of car I got.. I chose what I could afford..

That’s what it’s like for almost everyone, these days. Then can we talk about people with blue collar jobs and houses full of kids or animals to haul around? Do you think people should fling their dead deer or welding rigs or firewood or four wheelers or toolboxes in the back seat of a $50,000 Tesla?

Also, could those electric vehicles handle what a Silverado can handle in the logging woods? Can it sit running for hours at a time? Can it pull a wrecker or ambulance’s chores? The usefulness and variety of ‘electric’ vehicles is extremely limited and does not in any way meet the needs of working class people.

Many people buy big ol trucks, not because they wanted a driveway penis, but because they needed a work vehicle. Mind your own business. I mean, it’s just stupid. There is no such thing as ‘climate doom’. It’s just a distraction that ya’ll are falling for, hook line and sinker.

I saw someone I know bragging about Little Rock buying a couple of EV city busses like that is gonna actually accomplish anything in the probably millions of vehicles in the state of Arkansas. If the city wanted to really use those thousands of dollars to make people’s lives better, they would have used all that cash to hire new cops to handle all the dope in the streets and the gangbangers shooting up everybody so bad that Little Rock is now called Little Memphis.

INDIAN MOTORCYCLE DOMINATES DAYTONA, KICKING OFF 2022 RACE SEASON IN DRAMATIC FASHION WITH WINS AT KING OF THE BAGGERS & AMERICAN FLAT TRACK SEASON OPENERS

Indian Challengers Go Un-Challenged at Round 2 of King of the Baggers with Podium Sweep Led by Jeremy McWilliams, While Tyler O’Hara Goes Last to First for Dramatic Win in Round 1 –
Finishes Weekend with Early Points Lead for the Series

Indian Motorcycle Flat Track Wrecking Crew Rider Briar Bauman Secures 20th Career Win at Volusia Half-Mile

Indian Motorcycle Racing dominated Bike Week in Daytona Beach and kicked off its 2022 race season in dramatic fashion. With factory teams competing in flat track and bagger racing, Indian Motorcycle captured two wins and four of six podium spots at the King of the Baggers opening double-header at Daytona International Speedway, along with a victory at the 2022 American Flat Track season opener at the Volusia Half Mile.

Intent on reclaiming the title of King of the Baggers for its Indian Challenger, Round 2 saw an all-Challenger podium sweep led by new factory rider, Jeremy McWilliams, with Tyler O’Hara and Bobby Fong taking 2nd and 3rd respectively. In Round 1, it was all about inaugural King of the Baggers Champion O’Hara who put the Indian Challenger on top of the box with a dramatic last-to-first victory. O’Hara finished 1st and 2nd in the opening rounds to take an early lead in the 2022 series points race. Meanwhile, the opening round of the 2022 American Flat Track season saw Indian Motorcycle Wrecking Crew rider Briar Bauman deliver a masterful performance on his Indian Motorcycle FTR750 to take the win at the Volusia Half-Mile.

“This weekend was a dramatic display of the incredible level of preparation, determination and skill that powers our teams and riders every time we line up on the grid,” said Gary Gray, Vice President Racing, Service & Technology for Indian Motorcycle. “Considering the stiff competition and unique challenges we’re facing in both flat track and bagger racing this season, we’re certainly happy to get off to such a positive start, but we know full well that this is merely the beginning. There’s a lot more racing ahead of us, and we expect every race weekend to be a dogfight to the finish.”

THE TRUMP FILE NOW OPEN–You gotta see this. I posted a short thing on Fakebook about what made Trump different from every other President in US history – he didn’t refer to other bureaucrats as “my distinguished collegue” or “my associate across the aisle” or “the illustrious Senator from…..” or “my revered partner in government….”

No. He called them things like Pocahontas or Sleepy Joe or Crazy Bernie…..” I had about five names. Then I got to thinking I wonder if there’s actually a list. Turns out!…..God bless Wikipedia. Here, then, is the complete list so far of what Trump referred to I guess damn near EVERYONE ON EARTH as, using one insult or another depending of course on the individual being called what he actually is. Enjoy.

RIDING INDIA WITH ROYAL ENFIELD–Riding a Royal Enfield along a steep winding road towards a hidden valley in North India, a large yellow sign appears, which reads “Kardung La Top, highest motorable road in the world.” Vast stretches of land surrounded by desert mountains span out below us on the other side.

When I’m on my motorbike, nothing can separate me from the world. I am no longer in lockdown, and I can take everything in my stride: the wind, the beaming sun and the scents of this faraway land.

On the banks of the river, lush oases contrast with the lunar landscapes that stretch as far as the eye can see. Multi-colored prayer flags hanging from a monastery perched up high flutter in the wind. I spot camels roaming in the distance. Is it a mirage? What is this spectacular land I see before my eyes?

Philippe wakes up with a start, he was dreaming about riding his motorbike in the Himalayas! It was in Rajasthan that he discovered the joys of riding a Royal Enfield when traveling with a group of friends.

Since then, there’s just one thing he’s wanted to do: set off again on a road trip across Ladakh — a legendary Himalayan region connected by the highest roads in the world. His mind wandered as he nursed his morning coffee when the telephone rang. It was his buddy, Éric, “The Vintage Rides team has just confirmed we can go to Ladakh! Florence and I signed up straight away. Michel and Cécile will also be going.” The trip went from being a dream to becoming a reality.

What’s new in India?

On 14 February, India announced it would be relaxing its quarantine restrictions. The news has been on bikers’ minds since. There’s renewed hope for us globetrotters who’ve been stuck in one place for almost two years.

Our India-based mechanics and tour guides are emerging from a long period of hibernation, during which they showed great patience and their enthusiasm did not falter. Raring to get on his bike, from April onwards, Johann will take you through the Himalayan foothills on Uttarakhand’s most stunning bends and passes. Deepak, Harshvardhan and Ravi can’t wait to welcome you back to Ladakh, Rajasthan, South India, Goa and Madhya Pradesh too. The best is yet to come! We can’t wait to get back on the Indian roads at long last!

You should consider one of these rides. They are amazing. Our staffer, the Triking Viking rode to the Himalayas and Michael Lichter did the same. If you’re a bucket list kinda guy, these are amazing opportunities.—Bandit

Now we’re on the hunt for pics of bikes with our risers. Got some killer photos of your sick high-performance Harley you wanna share on our website?

Send ’em over to photos@biltwellinc.com and we’ll pick one lucky shooter to receive a $250 gift code good for anything in our Online store.

STARBUCKS STOCK DROPPING—I know how the brothers feel about Starbucks. Check this.

After you receive this Alert, we will sell all 950 shares of Starbucks (SBUX) at or near $79. This will close out the portfolio’s position in SBUX, which returned -28%.

With Starbucks shares breaking below technical support levels, something we discussed with members in our last Weekly Roundup, we are exiting the position as the next level of support for the stock appears to be near $70. Rather than risk meaningful additional downside from current levels, similar to what we saw unfold for PayPal (PYPL) and Meta Platforms (FB) in late 2021, we are electing to sell our SBUX shares and move the name to the Bullpen.

The SBUX chart was teetering on a breakdown last week, when we gave it the benefit of the doubt and time, but today’s move solidifies that the stock is following the trend. We need to cut bait here, as there is further potential downside to go at the $70 level and perhaps down to $55.

RUMBLE WITH RMJ–We love multipurpose tools, and Snuckles fits that roll in a lot of ways. Tons of design time went into creating a four-finger meat tenderizer, napkin holder, paperweight, forehead scratcher, extreme exfoliator, DNA sampler thing. We wrapped all of those features up in 6 ounces of Aluminum and 14 ounces of old school brass.

Instead of machining Snuckles, we decided that Investment Casting was a cool way to go. Investment casting, also known as lost-wax casting is one of the oldest known metal forming techniques, Investment casting has been used in various forms for the last 5,000 years. So they have street cred and a certain old school character that you can’t get with machining. Snuckles will instantly become the centerpiece of your kitchen counter, and a favorite keepsake of the family chef!

These aren’t for carrying around, they are a kitchen utensil. Don’t do dumb stuff and break laws. Texas and a growing number of states don’t mind if you slip them in your back pocket, and some states will issue a permit for such a crazy idea. Do yourself a favor and research it for your locality so you don’t make us say “we told you so!”

The Snuckles will be sold first come first served.

NOW, FROM J.J.’S NEW DICTIONARY–83:Greta Thunberg………Self-proclaimed teenage major climate and atmospheric super scientist and Farenhiet and centigrade monitor/analyist who has PROBABLY never taken her own temperature due to ineptitude.

How she has come by her expertise in meteorology no one knows, so apparently the assumption is she is an atmospheric mystic of sublime insight. Her face seems to be devoid of skin muscles with the exception of the eternal wrestling match that seems to always be going on beneath the writhing flesh of her forehead.

Her emotional wrath regarding the refusal of “leaders” to obey her is unabating. When she is not screaming her demands of compliance to her wishes and commands and edicts – which are basically “Do something about this!!!” – she glares silently with what apparently is a scowl, though it could be delight, there is no way of knowing, her face is very similar everywhere in its absence of contrasting features, much like a large plate is.

To date no one has asked her where she comes by her certainties about how terrestrial climate and weather can be “reversed,” whatever reversing the weather could actually mean. She seems to want less heat although many of the “major” news and journalistic entities are insisting that “climate change” is now heating formerly cold areas and freezing formerly hot ones, which, it would seem to me is not climate change but merely climate relocation, which no one has yet explained why THAT would be a problem.

No one also ever explains why climate CHANGE is a problem, but the suggested hint is that without an abandonment of the industrial revolution the earth will burst into flame. Greta Thunberg, for all her fulminations and demands for obedience seems to possess not even one item of scholarly qualification for her monomania.

Therefore, she is more than qualified to be the global-press’s go-to gal for global temperature prognostication. Idiots always know their own.

QUOTES FROM GREEN MURDER—It was predicted in 1988 that the Maldives would be under water by 2018. They are not. Some of the Maldives’s cabinet had an underwater meeting as a publicity stunt to sensationalize their demand for other people’s money to save them from inundation. Unlike most cabinet meetings, it was short.

In fact, massive new foreshore developments, hotels, luxury resorts and new airports were being built there in 2018-2021. Climate activists “scientists” lose nothing if they are wrong. Investors lose their shirts.

This is in accord with a 2019-global scale analysis of 709 islands in the Pacific and Indian Oceans that revealed 89 percent were either stable or growing in size and only a few small islands had slightly decreased in size.

It was the UN that warned in 1989 “entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed.” The UN was wrong. We were told lies. Did they correct their mistake? Did they apologize? Why Not? The land of climate activism is littered with lies, false claims, cooked data and mistakes and yet no corrections are made…

REPORT FROM THE CENTER FOR INDUSTRIAL PROGRESS— The fertilizer effect

This week we’re going to discuss the fertilizer effect. From a geological perspective we are in a CO2-poor phase of the earth’s atmosphere. There are two main benefits additional CO2 in the atmosphere will have on plants.

CO2 is plant food

One is that higher concentrations of CO2 increase the growth and yield of many plants. CO2 is plant food. That is why operators of greenhouses put additional CO2 in their greenhouses: to fertilize their plants. There are estimates that the increase in global crop yield over recent decades is partially attributable to increased atmospheric CO2, although the exact impact is subject to speculation.

Another effect of additional atmospheric CO2 is that plants can improve their water management with increased CO2 concentration. Through photosynthesis plants exchange gases like CO2 and oxygen with the atmosphere over little holes in their leaves called stomata. The higher the CO2 concentration the fewer stemmata are needed for the exchange. As a result less water evaporates from the leaves in the process. This can have significant impacts, especially in areas where water is scarce for the plants.

Global greening

The overall effect of this is a boost to plant life with increasing CO2. Satellite observations have confirmed significant increase in global plant biomass over the last 35 years, which can be detected by measuring the area of green leaves on the planet surface.

Notably, there is significant plant growth in areas human beings have not touched except through us feeding the plants more CO2 by using fossil fuels. Thus, we can say with some confidence that atmospheric CO2 increases have had a positive impact on planetary plant and crop growth from a human perspective.

A key lesson here is that we can’t assume that environmental impact is bad. We certainly can’t assume that it’s catastrophic.

When we’re thinking about what to do about fossil fuels we have to be precise about the negatives and we cannot ignore the positives. We must look at the full context.

WHAT’S NEXT?—Hopefully pouring concrete in the next couple of days. Moving dirt around today and waiting.

Gym is coming together. I’m hitting it hard to build strength and keep my blood pumping.

Need to stay strong for the shop move-in procedure. It’s going to be gruesome and heavy.

We are on the search of a Knucklehead engine. It’s a tough one not to use a new S&S engine, since they are complete, the best, and you can order it with an alternator and splined shaft for a 5-speed trans and an Evo starter. Couldn’t be better.

The Pandemic arrived from the evil west coast, just in time, before life in Califa is banned.

Hang on for next week. I watched the weather turn from 20 degrees to 55 degrees in a couple of days. At night the rings of snow glisten under still-green pine trees in the moonlight like phosphorescence in the sea. Every day is amazing, like Yale explains, when you’re not being bombed, you still have food on the table and the lights come on at night.
