Hey,
Amazing, the Redhead of Redheads and I drove out to the Costa Mesa Fair Grounds for Harley Night at the Speedway Races. We stopped for a bite to eat as the race kicked off, so we were just 20 minutes late. It was cool with June gloom as the sun slipped away. Parking was a bear, but we found a spot in Gate 8. It felt jammed.
I liked it. It felt good to see the crowds, the bikes and the young folks having a blast around wild speedway races. I went last year, it wasn’t anything like this. Amazing.
Let’s hit the news.

“We Love LACONIA MOTORCYCLE WEEK Ride” back at Progressive Laconia Motorcycle Week
Thursday, June 15, 2017, Laconia, New Hampshire
Rev your engines! Back for its second year (and, hopefully, one of many) the We Love Laconia Motorcycle Week Ride (AKA We Love Laconia Ride) will set out on Thursday, June 15th from Rally Headquarters right on Lakeside Avenue in Weirs Beach.
The ride was started last year after numerous Motorcycle Week attendees asked the Motorcycle Week Association how they could best support the Rally and ensure the event continued and prospered. Numerous local people, businesses and sponsors decided to organize a fundraiser ride to help fund Motorcycle Week’s marketing efforts.
The ride led motorcyclists through the less travelled western side of New Hampshire, renowned for its rural beauty and quaint towns, culminating in a stop at scenic Profile Falls in Bristol.
Laconia Mayor, Ed Engler and Charlie St. Clair, Executive Director of Laconia Motorcycle Week Association led the ride, as did the renowned, all-female, Iron Lilies Motorcycle group out of Florida.
Riders returned to the Laconia Roadhouse for VIP parking, catered lunch, live music, entertainment and a gift bag packed with an exclusive We Love MC Week Ride shirt and other donated swag.
As originally intended, all proceeds from ticket sales go back to Laconia Motorcycle Week Association for promotional purposes. Says Jennifer Anderson, Deputy Director, “the ride attracted over 200 people and was such a success last year that we decided to make it an annual event. It’s our way to create a legacy fund to help ensure sustainability for the oldest rally in the country.”
This year, the ride leaves from Rally Headquarters on Lakeside Avenue in Weirs Beach at 9:30am and returns to the Laconia Roadhouse at approximately 11:30am for lunch and entertainment. Entry fee is $50 ($25/passenger) and includes catered lunch, VIP parking at the Roadhouse, custom We Love Laconia Ride t-shirt and patch, swag bag and merchant discounts. The ride is generously sponsored by Hot Leathers, Faro Italian Grille and the Laconia Roadhouse.
To purchase tickets or find out more about the ride visit: http://laconiamcweek.com/event/we-love-laconia-motorcycle-week-ride/
Laconia Motorcycle Week® gives great appreciation to all of our sponsors, especially our Presenting Sponsors: Progressive, AMSOIL, and Hot Leathers as well as the State of New Hampshire for their large financial support of our rally each year. Thanks. You got me thinking. When did I build the two FXRs or the Factory Racer. Hell, we’re still trying to sent records with the 1940 Bonne Bell.
And as soon as the Paughco team finished my Salt Torpedo frame, I’ll be all over that puppy.
I was inspired by this Panhead effort. It was something I could get my hands around, something fun and exciting. Can’t wait.

Another WASTELAND WEEKEND for the post-apocalyptic history books–
Something has been growing in the Mojave Desert of Southern California. An annual pop-up post-apocalyptic city straight out of a Mad Max movie, packed with costumed revelers, live music, Choppers and modified cars.
Wasteland Weekend, now in its seventh year, took place September 22nd – 25th, 2016.
The four-day post-apocalyptic party began in 2010 and has seen steady growth each year. For 2016, it was a sellout crowd of over two and a half thousand people. Word of mouth from both veteran attendees and newcomers alike pegged this year’s event as the most successful ever.
“Our post-apocalyptic fan community just knocked it out of the park this year” says Wasteland Event Director and Co-Owner Jared Butler. “We had already been seeing growth each year both in attendance and what everyone builds” (fans coming to the event often form “tribes” and build elaborate themed camps and vehicles to go with their costumes) “but the incredible quality and inspiring creativity has really reached another level now”.
“We’re careful to control our growth each year so that the immersive quality of the event can be maintained at a high level” says Adam Chilson, the other half of Wasteland ownership and the event’s Chief Of Operations as well as its Art Director. Unlike nearly any other music & arts festival, Wasteland requires all attendees to be in some kind of post-apocalyptic costume at all times (even members of the media). The idea has been to create a party where every fan is also a participant, rather than just a spectator.
Wasteland Weekend has always been a fan-made event. While the mostly-volunteer event staff erects some large set pieces and infrastructure, much of the atmosphere comes from what attendees create and bring themselves, often working with their tribe for the entire off-season on their cars, costumes, and campsites.
Some of them obsessively embrace “screen accuracy,” creating images that even George Miller admits have briefly fooled him into thinking he was looking at stills from one of his films. Other attendees take the general theme and give it their own interpretation. “The amount of skill and imagination out there when it comes to repurposing discarded objects and rusted metal is just amazing,” says Chilson, “and we’re proud that we’ve helped create a venue for people to showcase it all.”
In keeping with the automotive themes in Mad Max films, one of the clearest displays of this repurposed rust is in the vehicles that are brought to the event.
This year, Wasteland Weekend featured upwards of 150 customized, fan-built Mad Max-style cars and motorcycles, driven out from all over the continent, some owners convoying thousands of miles to show off their creations in the temporary desert city. And the “Wasteland Car” craze has spread beyond the festival.
Wasteland World (the organization that puts on the Weekend) just held their first annual post-apocalyptic-themed car show in Los Angeles and they were recently featured on Jay Leno’s Garage.
Watch for the story about the future of motorcycling on Bikernet this week. Hang on!—Bandit
FBI Arrests Mexican Motorcycle Gang Accused of Hacking and Stealing Over 150 Jeep Wranglers in California–
The FBI has arrested a Mexican motorcycle gang who are accused of hacking and stealing over 150 Jeep Wranglers for spare parts in Southern California.
Hooligans Motorcycle Club, who are based in Tijuana, Mexico, “combined old school and modern hacking tactics to carry out the thefts undetected” in Southern California, which all “followed the same model,” according to Bleeping Computer.
“According to court documents, gang members organized themselves into various theft crews, and in each crew, members had different roles such as leader, thief, transporter, scout, or key cutter,” they explained. “All thefts started with a scouting phase where gang members with the role of scout drove around South California to identify motorcycles and Jeep Wrangler models they wanted to steal.
While the theft of motorcycles didn’t involve a key, with crooks bypassing the ignition switch, the theft of Jeep Wranglers was far more complex and involved quite a lot of high-tech gadgetry.”
US authorities say that after identifying a Jeep Wrangler, a scout would have to obtain the car’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), a code printed in the car’s dashboard, or another location on the car.
Scouts would pass the VIN to their leader, who would then pass the code to a key cutter via Facebook. According to court documents, the key cutters had found a way to access a proprietary database containing replacement key codes for Jeep Wrangler models.
Using the VIN, the key cutters would download two codes from this database. They would use the first code to as instructions to cut a physical replacement key.
They would then pass the newly cut replacement key and the second code back to the leaders, which would hand them over to members tasked with stealing the vehicle.
The gang allegedly managed to steal cars valued at over $4.5 million and were able to steal a Jeep in under two minutes.
Out of a list of nine suspects, eight of the gang members are reported to be Mexican nationals, while the other is a U.S. citizen. Just three suspects have currently been arrested, with the rest at large.

What is Celibacy?
Celibacy can be a choice in life, or a condition imposed by circumstances While attending a Marriage Weekend, Frank and his wife Ann listened to the instructor declare, “It is essential that husbands and wives know the things that are important to each other.”
He then addressed the men. “Can you name and describe your wife’s favorite flower?” Frank leaned over, touched Ann’s arm gently, and whispered, “Gold Medal-All-Purpose, isn’t it?” And thus began Frank’s life of celibacy.

The BMW R65 ‘Willoughby 65? by VTR Customs Is the Perfect Summer Ride
When we saw the BMW R65 Willoughby from Switzerland-based VTR Customs, we were absolutely smitten. This custom build might be the next hit of the summer. It may just inspire you to plan your next getaway to somewhere way outside of the city—to a place where the sound of waves break the silence, and the sun shines brightly.
VTR Customs is a small Swiss shop that specialises mainly in BMW conversions. They came onto the scene just a little over a year ago with an award-winning build that was more of a work of art than a motorcycle. Now, the group is back with another amazing build.
The Willoughby 65 started its life as a 1982 BMW R65. The name refers to a Rock Hudson movie from the 1960s. VTR Customs upgraded the BMW R65 a Siebenrock 860cc Power Kit, a custom 2-in-1 exhaust, Keihin FCR 39 flat side carburettors and a ÖHLINS BlackLine damper. With 70 horsepower, the Willoughby 65 has more than enough power to get you where you need to go fast.
The bike was also given an upgraded speedometer with a new custom dial, a small integrated LED rear light and Firestone Deluxe tires. To finish out the build, VTR Customs gave the Willoughby 65 a vintage blue paint job. Because you never know where the road will take you, this bike is finished out with a vintage canoe paddle and fishing rod. These final touches pay homage to old-fashioned lazy Saturday afternoons. We could go for an old-fashioned lazy afternoon. How about you?

The TAMARBIKES Morocco Adventure – Don’t miss a chance to have an adventure!
A Moroccan motorcycle guided tour
The Moroccan adventure – a Morocco motorcycle tour was once again a combination of warm and friendly riders, mixed with great new BMW bikes in an amazing setup of mountains, culture and deserts, all of this for a tour bringing together people for an unforgettable experience.
After the initial mandatories of arriving being picked up having the traditional Moroccan welcome dinner (belly dancers included) we got on our bikes and headed for our longest day of riding up into the Atlas Mountains. It’s a celebration of lush green surroundings, winding mountain roads. Small villages with people just thrilled to meet you and an alpine like Chalet at the end of the day to relax in in Azrou.
Consequently, the next couple of days are about crossing this mighty mountain range with its multitude of micro-climates and vegetation. While starting our ride at a cedar forest in the morning (not just any cedar – but the cedar of Africa) and working our way over dry highlands laced by green veins of life such as the Ziz, the Todra or the Dades valleys and gorges.
Additionaly, some off-roading with endless little points of interest such as old mining ghost towns or even hidden fortresses.
Consequently, the next couple of days are about reaching the edge of the Sahara almost at the border with Algeria, and experiencing these mighty sand dunes. Having a 4X4 get stuck in one and watching a Berber nomad ride through them with ease on a 2X4 making us look ridiculous.
Beginning this day of our Morocco motorcycle tour with the Famous Dades Gorge and all its beauty, we are working our way across the southern atlas through the route of a thousand Kasbahs, to the Movie town of Ourzazat, it pretty little Oasis of Fint and then across the Atlas one last time in to the bustling heat of Marakech with its beauty, ugliness, never ending action and amazing market one of the best in the world.

EVER HAD A PROBLEM IN THE FAST LANE– June is Lane Courtesy Month and many state legislatures are taking on the problem of drivers who impede traffic by camping out in the left lane.
The NMA long ago established June as the spotlight month for lane courtesy to raise awareness that keeping right to allow faster traffic to pass is one of the most important principles that should be ingrained within a driving culture.
While most states have lane courtesy/keep right laws, few actually enforce them. Our goal with Lane Courtesy Month is to provide educational information on the safety benefits of using the left lane for passing and the right lane for going with the general flow of traffic.
To that end, and with the generous help of K40 Electronics, we are giving away a K40 RLS2 Radar/Laser Detector in a random drawing from among those who respond to our Sweepstakes Survey. For more details about this contest, click on the Lane Courtesy Month Sweepstakes Survey banner toward the bottom of this e-newsletter.
In March, PBS’s News Hour posted this story on slowpoke laws that is relevant to our mission of education on lane courtesy. Since that time, lawmakers in ten states have taken on the task of improving lane courtesy laws. See if your state is on the list.
Maryland

Whether or not you take our online Lane Courtesy Month Sweepstakes Survey to earn a chance to win the K40 radar/laser detector, help us spread the word about the value of letting faster traffic pass on the left:
— With less tailgating and fewer forced lane changes, you’re less likely to be in an accident.
— Your fuel economy will improve with fewer incidents of braking/accelerating.

The SMOKE OUT WILD MUSIC LINE-UP–
The Smoke Out is defined by music. Every evening the bands hit the stage with a lot of energy. SO 18 is looking to be exceptional.
Rebel Son
Rebel Son is the perennial Smoke Out favorite band. They are an all original honky tonk rockabilly rock n’ roll band from the Carolinas. Comprised of guitarist/singer Lee Johnson, drummer Ron Kirk, and bassist Dave Schneider, Rebel Son is a hard driving country band that enforces blue collar morals with witty redneck humor. This combination makes for a chaotic symphony of working man blues and drunken debauchery… Just what the Smoke Out ordered.
Sneaky Tree
Spacey, one of our favorites on the Horse Backstreet Choppers Magazine Staff, formed a band. It all started in the Spring of ’93 with the original members Robert Henry on drums, Reggie Thomas on guitar, Darren Patrick Comans on bass and Billy Lyons aka Spacey on vocals.
“We traveled all over the southeast in the back of a van wherever we could get a gig. Sleeping, wherever we could, causing mayhem and general mischief whenever we could find. Our music was pure, raw and timeless.- Spacey”
Koffin Kats
Koffin Kats are a psychobilly trio from Detroit, Michigan. Fusing the swing of classic rockabilly with the hot-wired energy and ghoulish imagery of Misfits, this band proves that high-octane psychobilly is still alive and kicking in the American midwest.
Koffin Kats were formed in 2003 by lead singer and upright bassist Vic Victor and guitarist/vocalist Tommy Koffin, who had been part of the Motor City punk scene for some time before trying their hands at the doom-struck twang of their punk-rockabilly fusion.
Sarah Shook and the Disarmers
The band’s sound is a sneering fusion of punk-rock autonomy and say-it-like-it-is country from the classic era, paired with a timeless vocal warble and tons of attitude.
Rolling Stones — 10 New Country Artists You Need to Know — “Sounds Like: A natural-born punk in love with the brutal honesty of classic country”

AB 7 is scheduled to be heard in the Senate Public Safety Committee on Tuesday, June 13.

WILD IN THE STREETS— We love what we do around here. It couldn’t be more fun and inspiring. We don’t make a lot of money, but we do enjoy every minute of each piece of content we produce, each builder we meet, each tech item we feature and building new shit.
I had an interesting experience as a kid. My mother took us to the Sunset magazine offices. I was impressed by the gardens, the country style building, and the inspiring offices. It seemed perfect for creating a magazine about homes and gardens. How could you not be inspired.
I tried to do the same around Easyriders, when I was there. I also do it here at the bikernet headquarters. Everything is motorcycle and creative all the time. Hell, the stairs to the decks are made from exhaust pipes. What could be better.
Then there’s the content. I enjoy it all from Rogue’s techs and jokes, Derrel’s strange road stories, to Scotty’s living on the road, to fiction, the events, Jack’s galleries and the bikes. Even when we thought we were tough, it was all about the fun, the party, the girls and the machines. It was all romance and creativity.
Even the fight for Helmet choice and the freedom to build what we want is in a sense romantic. We never stop or give in.
And this coming week will be no different. And don’t miss the latest Cantina episode, number 76.
