Nyla bugs me at least once a week, “Slow down. Cut the number of projects,” she says, turns her back and slams the door.

Of course she wants to take on a part time job as a waitress at the Chowder Barge, take more martial art and yoga classes, make art from old shoes, hang out with her new granddaughter in the park, buy a Nook book reader, read a book a week, order a Zune and collect all her favorite songs. Nothing to it, right.

I haven’t told her about our plans to return to Bonneville next year. Remember the Bonne Belle, 1940 45 flathead with a K-model top end? We are determined to finish that bastard with the crew at Departure Bike Works, and a modified Paughco frame.

Plus, Ray C. Wheeler (say that fast) our new Performance Editor, fast is the optimum word. Ray has a 124-inch Turbo charged Twin Cam itching to be in the 200 mph club. We convinced Ray not to ride this bike in the streets, but drop his Dyna Glide hot rod engine in a Bonneville specific frame and treat it like the racer it is.

One project always leads to another. So we are going to build a mild street motor with S&S and Custom Chrome (to slip into his Dyna chassis and afford him thousands of reliable miles, as he whips that 97-inch puppy back and forth across the country. It will be our test-bed for testing Twin Cam related products.

BIKERNET LAW SCHOOL SPECIAL STUDY OF THE WEEK, Panel to review lawyer oversight process– By Cary Spivak of the Journal Sentinel

Concerned that unsuspecting clients could be hiring and paying lawyers who are under
investigation for serious wrongdoing, a newly formed committee is reviewing the inner workings of the state Office of Lawyer Regulation.

“We have to look at the fairness and effectiveness of the process, and the transparency of it,” said Rod Rogahn, who as chairman of the regulatory agency’s Board of Administrative Oversight, appointed the committee. “We’re looking at all of those issues with an eye toward protecting the public.”

The committee is focusing its attention on the lengthy process of dealing with the approximately 2,400 complaints against lawyers received each year by the Office of Lawyer Regulation, the policing arm of the state Supreme Court. The committee also will look at the cloak of secrecy the agency works under.

The committee, however, will not focus on how the state Supreme Court doles out discipline

against lawyers who break the law or the legal ethics code – even though three justices have said a review of that process is needed.

“The question is, should there be some point earlier in the process where people should be

alerted that there are issues with an attorney,” said Chris Banaszak, the Milwaukee lawyer who chairs the committee. Court rules do not allow disclosure of an investigation unless the agency files a complaint against a lawyer.
 
A Journal Sentinel investigation of the legal disciplinary system in February disclosed that some unsuspecting clients entrusted lawyers suspected of corruption with thousands of dollars, even after the regulatory agency had received complaints about the attorney and launched an investigation.
 
The investigation also showed that Wisconsin’s disciplinary system was more lenient than other states and that convictions – including those for serious financial crimes – do not prevent a person from practicing law in Wisconsin.
 
In one case, Peter Elliott, a now disbarred lawyer who is serving a 10-year federal prison term for stealing $3.6 million from clients, received a $100,000 check from a new client about four months after regulators had began their investigation into him. On July 22, Elliott was also sentenced to another five years in prison for bank robbery.

State Sen. Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin) in February called for the Legislative Audit Bureau to scrutinize the lawyer discipline system and the regulatory agency. That request is still pending because of the press of other business and the retirement of state Auditor Jan Mueller.

Discipline issue

One issue not being looked at by the committee is how the court metes out discipline and the manner in which it decides whether attorneys convicted of serious wrongdoing or felonies are readmitted to the bar.

At least 135 lawyers with criminal records were practicing in Wisconsin, the Journal Sentinel reported this year. Included in that roster were attorneys convicted of high-profile crimes, such as former state Sen. Gary George, who was sentenced to four years after being convicted in 2004 of accepting kickbacks, and Michael Gral, ex-partner at Michael Best & Friedrich, who was sentenced to two years after a 2006 conviction for mail fraud resulting from the role he played in a $20 million scheme.
 
In February three Supreme Court justices – N. Patrick Crooks, Michael Gableman and David Prosser – said the court’s disciplinary system, including the level of punishment doled out by the court, should be reviewed.
 

Crooks, last week, opened the door for the new committee to do just that.
“I would hope they might expand the study to include (the disciplinary issue) as well,” Crooks said. Gableman and Prosser did not return calls requesting comment.

Currently, a five-year license revocation is the maximum penalty the court can impose.

Although Rogahn favors tougher sanctions – he argued unsuccessfully last year for the court to institute a lifetime ban for attorneys who commit egregious offenses – he said it is unlikely the committee will take up the discipline issue.

The Supreme Court writes and enforces the lawyer disciplinary code, he said. “They’re the
ultimate arbiters.”

New Land Speed Records At Bonneville BUB Speed Trials–

The BUB Motorcycle Speed Trials will be held August 27 through September 1 at the famed Bonneville Salt Flats near Wendover, Utah. The event is hosted by the American Motorcycle Association (AMA), which verifies and sanctions all US national records. All world records are verified and sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de Motoclisme (FIM). Over300 racers will attempt land speed records this year, yet less than 10% will set records based on historical performance, signifying the difficulty of this endeavor.

Not much more than a “bed in a dry room”, but they are cute, cozy, and a welcome site for late arrivals, and “two-ups”. You can either bring your own bedding, or have linen provided. Please call for availability. During special events, the performers usually fill them.

GOT MY OL’ SHOVEL TOGETHER– Got an appointment with DMV tomorrow to license it, then I’ll find someplace to take some better pix. It has 80 spoke wheels, a Sprotor, a DNA springer, and a bunch of hand-made one-off shit. I just made the intake elbow yesterday because the Mikuni stuck out too far to get my foot on the foot peg.

Unfortunately, the paint doesn’t like cameras. It looks a foot deep in person, but something about the prisma additive makes the center of the colors look dull. Weird… I’ll see what I can do with that.

WYOMING TRAFFIC REPORT–Ray C. Wheeler and I got stuck on a Wyoming highway returning from Sturgis. A fire blazed ahead as a truck’s cargo caught fire and set the open plains shrubbery ablaze. The highway was immediately shut down.

We shut off our engine and the guy in the motorhome scrambled out wearing a Rick Fairless tie-died t-shirt and opened his enclosed trailer. He was packing just one item in the trailer, a newly purchased, used Big Dog with flashy paint.

We started talking. Just recently he heard something bounce around in his trailer and pulled over. He discovered that his new $300 barbecue came loose in the trailer and scratched his new bike fender. He immediately unstrapped the cooker and threw it in the ditch along side the road, and kept moving.

We spotted that barbecue 50 miles back and wondered just what the hell it was. A man has his priorities.–Bandit

THE TRIKE FILES–We are investigating trikes for a brother who was recently injured. We discovered independent suspension trike kits through Larry Haugen, who builds trikes for guys in northern Wisconsin. He generally uses Mystery Design trike conversion kits.

He wrote the ten things to think about before converting to a trike. We hope to bring you his code in the near future. He lives where if you blink you might miss the riding season, but usually riding is available for 3 to 5 months, if you’re lucky.–Wrench

THE SEARCH FOR THE PERFECT BLONDE–Rick Fairless and I spoke at the Hamster Banquet in Sturgis, where the Hamsters raised $218,000 for a local Children’s Hospital.  He asked me who my favorite blonde actress was. I immediately went blank. I could visualize every sensual curve, but couldn’t remember her name. As soon as I arrived at the headquarters the investigation was underway.

I’ve been grappling for this girl’s name ever since the banquet. She was more talented than Marilyn, more beautiful than Jean Harlow, classier that Jane Mansfield. Her name has as much panache as Olivia De Haviland’s. She’s way sexier that Bridget B. Goddamnit, I’m going to tattoo her name on my arm.

JOHNNY’S CUSTOMS IN STURGIS– This is Hamster Johnny Gil from Texas. It was great seeing you in Sturgis this past week. I really wished I had my Panhead “Blondie” ready for Sturgis for you to check out, but I will definitely have it there next year. I’ll send you some pictures of the progress, though.

I had to cut this Sturgis trip short, and left on Tuesday, but not before taking “Bella Vieja”, a Shovelhead of mine, for a ride through Spearfish Canyon. Hope to see you next year, maybe get together for some riding. I hope you had a fun and safe trip.

So much so that I missed the open road, the Holy Spirit guided me to a H-D three-wheeler. Some of my family members were joyful. Others were distraught, especially Sue and Mom.

Critical care, severe trauma, dangerously low heart rate and blood pressure, a coma and pain can be even more savage for family. I put myself in God’s hands, “Lord – my soul is well”. Your prayers, cards and letters helped me live. It’ll take the rest of my life to say thank you; I owe you and especially my family. When you see us, ask for an apache tear.

The RFTH tour will make two additional stops in 2011 at Biketobertfest (Daytona, FL Oct. 13- 16) and Love Ride (Glendale, CA October 23). Up to 12 events are being developed for 2012.

US Marine, custom bike builder and Captain with US Airways, Ralph Randolph, joins the tour as the “Official Manufacturer Of Rumble For The Heartland”. A previous build by Randolph to benefit Operation Homefront raised $175,000.

PRESIDENT OBAMA SIGNS BILL EXCLUDING POWERSPORTS FROM CPSIA LEAD BAN– President Obama today signed H.R. 2715 into law, just days after it passed the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives nearly unanimously, putting an end to an unintentional ban on youth ATVs and off-highway motorcycles that has lasted for more than two years.

The new law amends the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) to categorically exclude youth ATVs and dirtbikes from the lead content provisions.

“For more than two years, the powersports industry and its riders have urged Congress to categorically exclude youth dirtbikes and ATVs from the CPSIA’s lead content provisions,” said Larry Little, chairman of the Motorcycle Industry Council Board of Directors. “We are gratified that our community’s passion and perseverance have paid off and the ban on youth model OHVs is finally over. MIC’s Member Companies worked hard on this issue, as well as many MIC staff members, and we are especially grateful to Paul Vitrano, Kathy Van Kleeck, Duane Taylor and the MIC Government Relations Office.”

Since CPSIA took effect, the Motorcycle Industry Council has been working to end the ban by providing written comment and congressional testimony, and by leading a large grass-roots effort consisting of phone calls, letters and emails that cumulatively reached well over a million.

“On behalf of riders everywhere, we thank the Congress and the President for their action on H.R. 2715 to reverse the unintended ban on youth ATVs and motorcycles,” said Paul Vitrano, general counsel of the MIC. “In particular, MIC and its members thank Rep. Mary Bono Mack (R-Calif.) for sponsoring the bill and Rep. Denny Rehberg (R-Mont.) and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) for leading the Congressional effort to enact the categorical exclusion.”

SUNDAY MORNING SEX–I will never hear church bells ringing again without smiling..

Upon hearing that her elderly grandfather had just passed away, Katie went straight to her grandparent’s house to visit her 95 year-old grandmother and comfort her.

When she asked how her grandfather had died, her grandmother replied, “He had a heart attack while we were making love on Sunday morning.” Horrified, Katie told her grandmother that 2 people nearly 100 years old having sex would surely be asking for trouble.

“Oh no, my dear,” replied granny. “Many years ago, realizing our advanced age, we figured out the best time to do it was when the church bells would start to ring. It was just the right rhythm. Nice and slow and even. Nothing too strenuous, simply in on the Ding and out on the Dong.”

She paused to wipe away a tear, and continued, “He’d still be alive if the ice cream truck hadn’t come along.”

 STURGIS 2011 REPORT FROM UNCLE MONKEY– 
The early numbers are in and it would seem attendance to this year’s Sturgis was down. In the current economical climate it can be expected that people are tightening the belt a little more then usual.

I don’t think Sturgis is going anywhere soon but trademarking “Sturgis” gives me the impression of a cheap commercialized event. That the whole thing can be bought and sold to the highest bidder. How long will it be until it is “Microsoft Sturgis Bike Week” or “Home Depot Sturgis Bike Week?” So what is the answer?

I haven’t been to the Smoke Out, which seems to draw “real” bikers, so I can’t really say if they got it right. Maybe the problem lies in what is a “real” biker today. As we get wiser we start staying in hotels, trailering our bikes, ride dependable motorcycles. Have we sold out because we bought a new bike? Have we sold out because we call it a night and get a good nights rest to go riding all the next day?

Sonny Barger rides a Victory Vision; does that mean he is no longer a real biker, a real Hells Angel? We survived “Hey watch this!” and reminisced about “Remember when,” around campfires. We’ve relived the memories to death with our friends and are smart enough not to do stupid shit again. Too young to fade away, too old to die young.

The industry and society have changed to being all about “Me” and “instant self gratification.” The “last” of the Shovelhead riders have bought baggers. It’s all about plug and play tuning, accessories, everything. There is no wrenching, no modifying, so that it fits, so that it works. CCI and Drag Specialties make products for TwinCams but most people just buy from the dealership and if Harley can sell the same thing for twice the cost because it was placed in a bar and shield box they will.

Riders are looking for creature features, comfort, they want to be pampered. They want $15 cups of coffee and import micro-brewed beer. Even the hardcore youth that go just don’t seem to be as hardcore as we remembering being. They ride new bikes; wear designer UFC/Hurley/Ed Roth t-shirts and $300 jeans. They fight, swear, and drink like fish but they don’t seem genuine.

All I can say is that there is money to be made, new friends to meet, and stories to be shared.

MOTORCYCLE STOLEN, NEED YOUR HELP– Limited-edition RZR stolen from Polaris of Gainesville– Authorities are looking for a $15,000 special-edition RZR was stolen from Polaris of Gainesville during a burglary Thursday morning, Alachua, Fla., police officer Jesse Sandusky told the Gainesville Sun.

The burglary occurred around 5 a.m. at the dealership in Alachua, police say. The stolen SSV was one of five of its kind in the state: It is a tan Army special edition model with an Army star on the hood. Also gone is a black trailer.

The vehicle and trailer were reportedly taken through a large hole cut into a chain link fence. Tools used in the burglary were found at the scene, Sandusky says. There are no suspects. Anyone with information should call the Alachua Police Department at 386-462-1396 or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 372-STOP.

The final race in the 2011 AMA Pro Flat Track Series, the AMA Pro Grand National Flat Track Finals will showcase the best two-wheeled racers in the country as they battle their way to glory in an all out attempt to earn the coveted crown in both the

TEXAS GUN LEGISLATION “ALLOWED”–  Texas gun owners allowed to keep guns and ammo in vehicles at jobs Hunters in a hurry to leave for a weekend outing won’t have to worry about storing their rifles in their cars at the office anymore. And commuters will be able to pack heat for protection without wondering what the boss thinks.

Under a new law that takes effect Sept. 1, most employers will not be able to prohibit workers who legally own guns and ammunition from storing them in their vehicles on a company parking lot during business hours.

The few exceptions to the measure — Senate Bill 321 by state Sen. Glenn Hegar, R-Katy — include public and private schools, and lands that contain oil, gas and mineral leases. Certain properties where firearms are already outlawed, such as federal buildings, are also exempted from the law, as are company vehicles owned or leased by the employer.

Gun owners hailed SB 321 as a victory for Texans who want to protect themselves during their daily commutes to work.

“This is not the safe-parking lot bill. This is the safe-commuter bill,” said Alice Tripp, the legislative director for the Texas State Rifle Association, the state’s lobbying arm of the National Rifle Association.

The law was first introduced seven years ago by former state Rep. Dan Farabee, D-Wichita Falls, after several Texans were fired for stowing their hunting rifles in their vehicles. They had planned to leave for a hunting trip in Oklahoma immediately after work, Tripp said.

She also rejected the concern of some critics that Texans would have impromptu gun shows and shooting lessons on employer property after work.

“The protection for the employee does not extend beyond the vehicle. There is no ‘show and tell,’” she said. Just in case an incident occurs, though, the bill provides immunity to an employer, “except in cases of gross negligence” should an accident happen that causes injury, death or property damage.

When I read this, I absolutely hate the word “allowed” when it comes to gun rights. I just want to scream, “Massa Govt is ALLOWING me to exercise a right. Thank you, kind Massa!”

This bill that costs tax payers money shouldn’t even have been a bill, it should have been legal all along.

Now here in my new home in CA, it is a mandatory 90 day incarceration for carrying concealed w/o a permit. But to get a permit, it is next to impossible. Thank God that here though, when seconds count, the cops are only minutes away.

BIKERNET MEDICAL CLINIC INTERVIEWS DR. WEIL ABOUT DUCT TAPE–Does Duct Tape Get Rid of Warts? Anyone who has experienced plantar warts knows what a nuisance they can be. Caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV), they appear on the bottoms of feet as small, fleshy bumps; hard, flat growths with a rough surface and well-defined boundaries; or gray or brown lumps with tiny pinprick-size black dots.

To help avoid getting plantar warts, take preventive steps in areas known to harbor the virus, including warm, moist places such as shower floors, locker rooms and public swimming pools. Always wear shower thongs or sandals when you use a public locker room or shower, and use foot powders and change your socks often to keep feet dry.
To treat plantar warts, you have a number of options:

1. Leave them alone. Most will disappear without treatment, sooner or later.

2. Try a “paint on” solution. Look for an over-the-counter treatment containing 40 percent salicylic acid, and apply once or twice a day for a few weeks.

3. Try the “duct tape treatment.” Simply cover the warts with duct tape for six days then soak in water and rub gently with an emery board or pumice stone. You may have to repeat the process over the course of a month or two before the warts disappear, but a study published in the October 2002 Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine found that the duct tape method worked better than having a doctor freeze the warts off with liquid nitrogen, which can be painful and cause scarring.
4. Try visualization. I recommend spending a few minutes each day picturing the growths shrinking. If you need help coming up with images, you can listen to recordings made by practitioners skilled in guided imagery and clinical hypnosis. It may be most effective to do this when waking and falling asleep. This mind-over-matter method can work remarkably well, so try it first, before resorting to acids, duct tape, lasers or surgery.

SPEED WEEK REPORT 2011–Rolled out Wilmington just after the crack of dawn in an Easterly direction, destination Wendover, Utah… A mere 685 miles later arrived in Wendover after spending the last 15 or 20 miles on Hwy 93, with severe rain and lighting that arrived as I pulled into town.
 
The town was packed with dozens of retro rods, from rat rods to radical show pieces on display for all to drool over. Blowers, injectors, multiple carb set ups and one of my favorites…. Turbos.
 
 
Then the rains came with high winds and lightning, 30 minutes later and the sky was bright and clear, everyone was outside talkin’ hot rods, new dreams and old ones that got away, goin faster than a boosted bat-outa-hell on two wheels..straight has an arrow and living to experience impound.
 
After a record setting pass on the salt mounted on the best seat in the house in your Vanson Tuxedo, Impound is the shit! Your crawlin out of your skin and laughin under your breathe all at the same time, you’ve cheated death one more time, son-of -a-bitch!, Yah-fukin-ho! But wait! Next year will be faster……….
 
A small lake Monday morning,The Bonneville Salt Flats

Where die hard racers have gathered since 1912 on a salt bed that’s 14 miles long and 7 miles wide, the first record that was set in 1914 by Teddy Tetzloff (still researching the speed, etc.). It’s so fukin huge you can see the curvature of the earth…hell, (on a clear day Alaska is easy to see, just stand on a 10′ step ladder and look North).
The daybreaks and sunrises are one-of-a-kind, then there’s a few dozen bad ass streamliners, hot rods, about anything that rolls including our beloved 2-wheel addictions.

A few on the salt are Brian Stock, Brother Speed aboard the Silver Bullet…ran a 198.902 for a qualifier…then the dreaded salt gremlins attacked the next morning just after leaving the starting line while on a record setting back up run. The team was scramblin to find a solution for the unknown problem……

Wilmington was calling and I peeled before the results were known.

WHEN ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE– Better have great Event Liability Insurance.

Being admirers of music, the Crew was saddened last weekend by the killer stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair. It was downright horrific to say the least. Bikernet Insurance has a specialty department that focuses on Event Liability Insurance so we paid special attention when this news came out.

One of our favorite bands that streams through the office stereo system, Sugarland, was getting ready to go on stage as winds howled and lightning flashed when a huge, powerful gust of wind topple the entire stage forward onto a packed audience. Five people died and countless were injured according to news reports. Terrible accident for sure. Our hearts go out to all involved in this tragedy.

 
Let’s look at the insurance angles of this accident.

Vendor and Exhibitor Liability
Every vendor or exhibitor at the state fair would of likely had to purchase Event Liability Insurance. They typically would sign a hold-harmless agreement and name the Fair as an Additional Insured. Certificates of insurance would of been made available to all who needed them as proof that good insurance was in place to protect all the parties associated with the Vendor and/or Exhibitor.

Income Insurance for the Artists
Typically, successful bands will purchase income protection insurance to make sure they get paid no matter what happens when they in fact, are willing and able to perform, but could not due to circumstances beyond their control. Additionally, in situations of this nature, a professional insurance agent/broker would also provide a broad-termed “Cancellation Policy” for the band’s concerts and various other events attended by the band.

Hell Will Get Worse When The Lawsuits Begin
If the news coverage is to be believed, the lawsuits will be coming fast and furious over this tragedy. Claims for bodily injury due to negligence by somebody somewhere in the tragic event will come from all angles. Some will be covered under a Contractors General Liability coverage. The Fair itself will likely get sued so let’s hope they had a high-limit Commercial General Liability and Event Liability insurance policy in place. The Production Company will likely get sucked in as will anybody involved in the “promotion”of the event. There are likely dozens of individual companies involved or associated with the Fair that lawyers will be gunning for in the coming years. Anyone involved in almost anyway with the promotion of the Sugarland Concert is fair game for lawsuit attack. Its gonna get ugly unfortunately.

The Bottom Line
Always make sure you have good insurance that covers what you need covered to protect you ass…ets. We recommend minimum $1,000,000 Event Liability Insurance limits with many clients choosing to purchase $2,000,000 and even $5,000,000 limits depending on their actual risk of exposure at Special Events.

NHTSA (AGAIN) PUSHES HELMET LAWS–
NHTSA Administrator David Strickland has testified once again before a Congressional committee urging federal action to get motorcyclists to wear helmets. On July 27, during a reauthorization hearing on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Strickland told a subcommittee of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science & Transportation that “the most important step we can take to reduce the deaths of motorcyclists on our roads and highways is to assure that all riders wear a DOT compliant helmet.”

He further stated that, “A grant program emphasizing the use of motorcycle helmets would be effective in reducing fatalities.”

Last year, in response to Congressional testimony from Strickland that increased helmet use is the core component of NHTSA’s motorcycle safety plan, U.S. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) introduced a resolution urging NHTSA to concentrate on motorcycle crash prevention and rider education instead of lobbying for helmet laws.

WORLD WAR II CLASSIC–  It only took three days to put her all back together and everything works! We pulled P-40E AVG #67 out of Hangar 79 at about 4:00 PM local time yesterday to a growing crowd of starry eyed onlookers. It looks beautiful out on the grass next to “The Ford Island Tower.”
All this would never had happened if it were not for the generosity of Mr. Fred Smith of FedEx. The crew of John and Cory from Fighter Rebuilders LLC; Tom Camp a former owner of this P-Chennault; John W. Hazlet, the last guy to fly it, and David Sutton from FedEx. What a delightful group of guys, but then again, if you love airplanes it is sort of in your blood.

As for things this P-40 is famous for it was the P-40 John Belushi used on the movie “1941” and in the movie, “Tora – Tora – Tora”. Everything works, the engine only has 50+ hours since new in 1944, the landing gear works as do all of the electronics. It will remain in flyable condition from now until I’m long gone.

To say that I am having the time of my life would not be an exaggeration. The staff that I work with are some of the greatest people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing, and every one of them are characters in their own right. I fit right in!

JIMS Cruise Drive Mega Nut– Years ago JIMS designed the original “Mega Nut” complete with a machined clamping face profile and additional locking holes for a more precise way to secure the pulley nut. ILLUSION CYCLES Rusty Coones and Rodrigo Requejo Are Hell Raisers–
For the Illusion Motorsports bike builders, life has been one wild ride, featured in OC Weekly.

The backroom of Illusion Motorsports is full of bikes: some are set aside like museum pieces, others are jacked up on work tables, here a line of stripped-down and refurbished Harley-Davidsons, there the odd Triumph or Victoria. But two motorcycles in particular stand out inside the construction-in-progress custom-motorcycle shop in a Garden Grove business complex just off Interstate 405 at Golden West. They’re distinguished less because of their physical appearance than for what they say about the store’s owners, Rodrigo Requejo and Rusty Coones, and the amazing turn of personal fortune both men have experienced in the past few years.

The first bike, an Illusion Hellrazor with a 114-cubic-inch engine custom-manufactured exclusively for the shop, belongs to Kurt Sutter, the creator of the biker drama Sons of Anarchy that airs on FX. Requejo and Coones built the bike for Sutter earlier this year, but Sutter sent it back in for a custom fender and a one-of-its-kind aluminum fairing. It’s the second bike Sutter has purchased from the store; the first was custom-made for the show in 2010, and then donated to the Wounded Warrior Foundation, a San Diego charity that benefits wounded and disabled veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

A Sons of Anarchy camera crew filmed Requejo and Coones building the bike from scratch for a special feature for the upcoming DVD release of the show’s third season. Coones’ heavy-metal band, Attika7, for which he plays lead guitar alongside vocalist Evan Seinfeld of Biohazard fame, also contributed two songs to the second season, as well as one (so far) for the upcoming fourth season. Sutter and his wife, actress Katey Sagal (who plays Gemma on the show), met Coones a few years ago on a toy run in the San Fernando Valley.

LOS ANGELES- August 18, 2011- Where are all the real DeLorean Time Machines that were used in the Back to the Future movies? Sadly, some of them no longer exist and others are in need of extensive work. Of the seven cars used over the three movies, only three original cars are thought to still exist. Presented by Profiles in History, the famed auction house that represented the Debbie Reynolds Collection this summer, the screen used DeLorean from Back to the Future III can be seen right now at the premiere exhibition of Cars, Collectibles & Cinema at the Museum of Monterey in association with Pebble Beach Auto Week. The Museum of Monterey, located at 5 Custom House Plaza, Monterey, CA 93940, will be open from 10 AM to 8 PM with a portion of ticket proceeds going to beneifit The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

The DeLorean will be displayed outdoors for special viewing this Sunday, August 21st, which coincides with the 61st annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the greatest automotive event in the world.

In addition to the DeLorean, visitors can expect to see other famed items from the Back to the Future triology, such as, original costumes, Doc’s burned toy Cadillac, Clock Tower cables, Gray’s Almanac, the Doc Brown committed/commended newspapers, a full set of all five types of hoverboards, and other rarely seen pieces of cinematic history.

Profiles in History is proud to present the original DeLorean Time Machine driven by Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future III. The Time Machine has been in private hands for the past 8 years, and was recently featured on the Hollywood Treasure television show hosted by Joe Maddalena. The Time Machine will be available for viewing during advertised museum hours, and will be in a future Profiles in History auction later this year, with a portion of the proceeds going to Team Fox benefitting The Michael J. Fox Foundation. Previously it could be seen at the San Diego Air & Space Museum and this year’s Comic-Con.

WHEELS THROUGH TIME 30 Bikes in 30 Days — Week 1 Monday, 15 August 2011

The past week has been another busy one here at Wheels Through Time Museum. We just kicked off our Inaugural 30 Bikes in 30 Days Celebration and have been firing up and giving demonstrations of several of the museum’s rarest motorcycles…..many of which hadn’t been fired before the public eye in ages.

From Day 1 last Thursday, visitors have been eager to get a taste (and an earful) of good old fashioned American iron, and over the past week, we’ve had quite a line-up ready for exhibitions. I’ve always said that there’s nothing like hearing the sound of a nearly 100 year old motorcycle running in tip top condition, and if we’ve learned anything over the past week, its that our visitors feel exactly the same.

Visitors on Thursday had the opportunity to see Dale’s 2011 “Race of the Century Bike” in action — a beautifully original 1911 Indian Single with battery ignition. And Friday, the museum’s 1936 Knucklehead Raffle Bike and a survivor of a 1912 Belt-Drive Excelsior Twin were fired up to give visitors an idea of the gap between the capabilities of the primitive 100 year-old Chicago built machine and Harley-Davidson’s “milestone motorcycle”

Saturday was equally exciting, as Dale fired up the 1940 Daytona Winning Harley-Davidson WLDR for the first time in over 4 years. This 1939 Model-WLDR racing machine was ridden by Babe Tancrede of Woonsocket, Rhode Island to victory on the beach, then decades later was found in pieces in race tuner, Jack Chester’s garage, and reassembled to its former glory. As you can see from the video, its just as potent as it was over 70 years ago. Dale’s 1917 Henderson Four-cylinder 24-hour Endurance Racer was also a featured machine, and a few visitors even got a chance to help Dale fire her up by spinning the rear wheel. In 1997, Dale actually rode the bike from L.A. to New York, breaking the 1917 Transcontinental Record (also set on a Henderson) by over 1 full day!

WTT’s 1930 Harley-Davidson DL Land Speed Record HolderSunday was Land Speed Racing Day at the museum, as the staff brought out two machines specially built for speed. The 1923 ACE Four-Cylinder racer has always been a visitor favorite, with its throaty exhuast note, and sleek styling. However, the highlight of the day was firing up the little 1930 Harley-Davidson D-model Land Speed Racer. A few years back, Dale and crew got the racing bug after heading to the Maxton Mile with good friend Buzz Kanter of American Iron Magazine. Just six months later, WTT had their own record-breaking machine out at Maxton — a lightweight, hand-built 45 cubic-inch flathead that hit a top speed of 93 mph!

Monday, we rounded out week 1 with a beauty of a 1940 Indian Four Cylinder — a true gentleman’s machine. After sitting idle in the museum’s main gallery for over 3 years, a quick oil change and a few gallons of gas was all she needed to get back on the road!

Coming up for Week 2 of WTT’s 30 Bikes in 30 Days Celebration, we’ve got one heck of a line-up put together. Consisting of many One-of-a-Kind motorcycles, the exhibition schedule includes a combination of prototypes, hillclimbers, and other factory racing machines. Matt will be firing up his 1916 Harley “Cutdown”, along with the 1949 Jack Pine Enduro Racing Panhead sidecar and the infamous 1941 HD “Big Fish” Knucklehead. Two of the rarest Hillclimbers on the planet — the Serial #1 1928 Indian Altoona and a one-off 1932 80-inch Harley “Spagetti-frame” Hillclimber — are also on the slate to be fired on Saturday and Sunday. Add to that a 1911 Indian Factory Board Track Racer, a 1914 One-of-a-Kind Flescher Flyer, and the Prototype 1941 Harley-Davidson TA Shaft-drive Knucklehead, and you’ve got an amazing week at Wheels Through Time.

THE JOHN REED STURGIS FILE– Arrived back ok, it was a long lonely ride, but it gave me a lot of time to think.  You guys would like the V even more if you set it up to go round corners.
When I was young in the UK, I was a rocker, we used to modify our bikes to look like road
racers we went to other cafes and hang outs every weekend to race the people there, and we worked evenings to try and make them better and cooler for the next time.

 
 
 
Apart from the clip ons and rear pegs controls which I made myself on the side at work ,we used to modified stock parts, we didn’t have money for paint , we either used brush or polish on all the aluminium (with solvol autosol)etc etc.
 
I looked at my V when I was putting it in the van ready for Sturgis, I figured out I have gone round a circle My little V street bike is just like the ones I had back then. Modified frame in primer, customized stock parts like primary derby covers gear pedals etc etc , fit lock wire where I can, etc.

I may be getting old, but my shitty attitude is even better than it was when I was young,
and mostly.  I still get pleasures making the same things I did when I was young.

STURGIS MUSEUM BIKE RAFFLE CARRIES OVER TO NEXT YEAR– The plan was always to give the guitar away at this year’s rally and to continue to sell tickets until the beginning of next year’s rally for the bike. The tickets for this raffle have both dates (this year for the guitar and next year for the bike), the information on the website has both dates, and any time I’ve talked about the raffle we’ve talked about both dates.
The bike that’s being built for next year will be unveiled at next year’s rally and drawn for in 2013 – so we’ll sell tickets for that bike for a year as well.

Cash, credit or meteorite? Dealer takes valuable rock in trade for motorcycle


WILL THAT BE CASH, CREDIT, OR METEORITE?–Not a question dealers ask often. But Landers Harley-Davidson in Cabot, Ark., swapped a motorcycle for a meteorite a local man found in his back yard.

Jim Griffey, 63, hit a rock when he was digging holes to plant trees in his garden. He dug out the rock and tossed it aside, but later took a closer look.

“I’ve got a few interesting rocks in my shed. One has some fossils in it another is some fool’s gold,” Griffey told Visordown. He held a magnet to the rock and got a surprise:

“The dang magnet shot right to it. I’m pretty sure it charged the magnet,” Griffey says.

He called Landers Harley-Davidson to ask if they would trade a motorcycle for the meteorite, saying, “You know I don’t mind taking an old Harley that will smoke ‘cause I’m 63 and I smoke a little bit too.” The dealership agreed, and Griffey got his bike.

HOLY SHIT– I can hear her throwing pots and pans. We’ve made a serious effort to add entertainment value to Bikernet and Bandit’s Cantina. Every element we add increases our project list. Now we’re about to add 126 games to the Cantina, but that’s not all. We will run the game of the day to the Free side. Hang on for that one.
