SLIPPERY SUNDAY POST for July 30, 2017

Hey,

It’s all in the wind. I’m watching a series called Ozark. It’s a mess. Have you watched House of Cards? Talk about a train wreck. It has no social redeeming value. It’s all evil. I stopped watching it after a couple of episodes. I don’t like watching shows that turn all negative or immoral. I still like to think there’s a happy ending.

I know there’s a happy ending. Just got to work at it. One of the codes includes taking the negative bullshit out of your life. If Ozark goes too far down that negative road, I’ll turn it off and never go back. I don’t have time. We’re always up to something positive or creative around here.

Let’s hit the news:

BIKERNET OLD JOKE LIBRARY WING IS OPEN–

An old Marine Pilot sat down at the Starbucks, still wearing his old USMC flight jacket and ordered a cup of coffee. As he sat sipping his coffee, a young woman sat down next to him. She turned to the pilot and asked, Are you a real pilot?”

He replied, ‘Well, I’ve spent my whole life flying planes, first Stearmans, then the early Grummans… flew a Wildcat and Corsair in WWII, and later in the Korean conflict, Banshees and Cougars.

I’ve taught more than 260 people to fly and given rides to hundreds, so I guess I am a pilot, and you, what are you?

She said, ‘I’m a lesbian. I spend my whole day thinking about naked women. As soon as I get up in the morning, I think about naked women. When I shower, I think about naked women. When I watch TV, I think about naked women. It seems everything makes me think of naked women.’

The two sat there sipping in silence. A little while later, a young man sat down on the other side of the old pilot and asked, are you a real pilot?” He replied, ‘I always thought I was, but I just found out I’m a lesbian .’

Life and Times 1990s in Seattle–I met my 1946 Indian

I did not know you are also into martial arts. As a hobby I have taught a quite a few people Karate, Wing Chun, Kung Fu and techniques in Jiu Jitsu. Apart from Yoga and Meditation.

Here is a photo from May 2016 last year when I was showing off to one of my students. The student is with me since 2013 till present and comes in the morning for exercise and practice. We are both 37 years old.

I have a treadmill and bench press and weights at my home dojo including a Chinese punching bag and a regular Western punching bag.

I loved my teacher who was mean and rude as hell. Straight out of a vintage periodical Chinese movie where they show an asshole Sifu building warriors by tough training. We did not have soft cushion or foam to fall on.

At my home dojo too you have to learn by hitting the tiled floor hard. I punch on brick walls, wood, tiled walls and getting better at punching granite, which is toughest. I loved the recent biopic of British bareknuckle boxing champion Lenny McLean. He has an incredible autobiography book too. Check out the movie named “My Name is Lenny”

THE FINAL STRETCH TO STURGIS–

Royal Riding Wants To Take The Pain Out Of Your Ride To The Rally

All roads lead to the Black Hills this time of year. Make your ride to the 77th annual Sturgis Rally much more enjoyable by alleviating pain. Royal Riding is offering its full range of gel seat pads at a special price to help you make the final stretch to Sturgis!

“For $100 make sure your big trip isn’t ruined by a pain in the ass,” says Royal Riding president Rod Derifield. “We believe by bringing knowledge and materials from other industries and combining them with the specific needs of motorcyclists, we can help you ‘Ride Farther’ in greater comfort.”

Royal Riding pioneered the use of gel inserts with the original Cool-Tush seat pads a decade ago and continues to advance the cause to eliminate butt pain with the recent release of the new LoPro pads. “Our new LoPro is designed to keep you more connected with your bike than with traditional seat pads, yet due to our unique gel formulation, you can get the same comfort when you take long rides.” The new gel formulation distributes weight and deadens vibration more effectively, yet it is half the thickness of most gels on the market.

Royal Riding is extending special pricing and free shipping on its full range of gel seat pads, including the brand new LoPro line… but act fast so that you can get your pads in time for the ride to Sturgis. “The STURGIS10 offer runs through August 20th, but the expedited free shipping expires July 31 to ensure that we can ship your pads in time for the ride,” says Derifield.

If you don’t want to ride home from the Rally in pain, Royal Riding will be at 6th & Lazelle in downtown Sturgis as well as the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum at 999 Main Street for the run of the Rally. Be sure to swing by the Museum location for some big surprises coming from Royal Riding as well.

If you can’t make it to the Sturgis Rally this year, check out the Royal Riding range of seat pads, including the standard Cool-Tush™ and classic sheepskin, at the website:

KEEP THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY WIDE OPEN–
Subject: TWO CATHOLIC PARROTS
A lady went to her priest one day and told him,”Father, I have a problem,
I have two female parrots, but they only know to say one thing.”
‘What do they say?’ the priest asked.
They say, ‘Hi, we’re hookers! Do you want to have some fun?’

‘That’s obscene!’ the priest exclaimed, Then he thought for a moment…
‘You know,’ he said, ‘I may have a solution to your problem. I have two male talking parrots, which I have taught to pray and read the Bible.
Bring your two parrots over to my house, and we’ll put them in the cage with Francis and Peter. My parrots can teach your parrots to pray and worship and your parrots are sure to stop saying…. that phrase… in no time.

Thank you,’ the woman responded, ‘this may very well be the solution.’
The next day, she brought her female parrots to the priest’s house. As he ushered her in, she saw that his two male parrots were inside their cage, holding rosary beads, and praying.
Impressed, she walked over and placed her parrots in with them.
After a few minutes, the female parrots cried out in unison:
‘Hi, we’re hookers! Do you want to have some fun?’
There was stunned silence…
One male parrot looked over at the other male parrot and said,

“Put the beads away, Frank,
our prayers have been answered!”

BAD COP FILES–
Pressure Causes San Marcos Police to Condemn Motorcycle Profiling.

San Marcos (TX)- The San Marcos Police Department (SMPD) has publicly rejected motorcycle profiling and discrimination in response to an inquiry regarding a recent Motorcycle Profiling Project (MPP) request that the SMPD cease and desist from recommending that private owners make their establishments unwelcome to motorcycle clubs by adopting “no motorcycle colors” policies.

The department explains that such recommendations are the result of one well-intentioned but misguided officer’s actions that are “not in line with the policies of the San Marcos Police Department.” The SMPD reminds KXAN that the department “has a policy against profiling and discrimination” and “support[s] the rights of people to peaceably assemble regardless of their appearance, clothing or affiliation with any group.”

Although, as of this writing, the SMPD has not directly responded to the MPP’s request, KXAN News in Austin reached out to the MPP and the SMPD for comment, and ran a follow up to the original story exposing the SMPD recommendations.(click to view) In a statement sent to KXAN, in answer to KXAN’s inquiries, the SMPD rejects profiling and separates the agency from the recommendations that private owners exclude club members.

From KXAN- The full statement received from the City of San Marcos:

A San Marcos police officer gave well intentioned advice to some local business owners in response to incidents that took place at their establishments. While well meaning, some of that advice is not in line with the polices of the San Marcos Police Department. In fact, the San Marcos Police Department has a policy against profiling and discrimination.

Our department is here to serve and assist the entire community, that includes both business owners and their patrons. We are sometimes called upon to assist in situations that may arise at a business, and in some cases to assist when a person is criminally trespassing. We also support the rights of people to peaceably assemble regardless of their appearance, clothing or affiliation with any group.

Our downtown, and our entire community welcomes all law-abiding citizens and visitors.

The Indian Demise

I just bought a 2004 Chief Roadmaster. It has 500 miles on it. I am being
told it has a factory 125cc (2050ci) Indian engine in it.

I have the vin, but no one can tell me for sure what it truly is. I have some interesting stickers on it and a story to go with it.

This is a true piece of History
if I can get all of the facts. Any help would be much appreciated.

The story is it was built for Arnold Palmer and is the 5th produced off the assembly line. I’m not sure if it’s a Gilroy but believe it is.

–Devin
devinprediger@gmail.com
Brooklyn , NY

It definitely is a Gilroy Indian and few were built. From that prospective, it is very historic and if was built for Arnold Palmer, you have a prize.

The engine size is probably from 1250cc or 80-inch to 1,536 or 96-inch. It’s basically an Evo engine.

I’ve reached out to one of the Indian bosses from that era. I’ll let you know what I find.

THE TICKET REPORT FROM THE NMA–
From guest writer Joe Cadillic who writes the MassPrivatel Blog

According to The Stanford Open Policing Project which looked at over 100 million police traffic stops in the United States, “Police pull over more than 50,000 drivers on a typical day, more than 20 million motorists every year.”

Does that mean 50,000 people are breaking the law every day? Is there an epidemic of lawbreakers on our streets? Of course not, so why are police stopping 20 million motorists every year? Police across the country don’t just ticket millions of Americans every year, they’re also questioning them.

Unfortunately the Open Policing Project doesn’t mention how many passengers are stopped and questioned by police every year. Many motorists travel with someone so the amount of people being stopped & questioned might be double than the estimated 20 million. The numbers become even more disturbing when the estimated 50,000 motorists stopped each day turns into a conservative estimate of 80,000 or more motorists plus passengers stopped each day.

In a recent Reason.com editorial, Chicago Tribune columnist Steve Chapman wrote in Curbing Traffic Stops would Save Lives that traffic stops are often an excuse for cops to search a car for drugs and guns.

He added, “Curtailing police reliance on this pretext would free motorists from being dragooned to ‘consent’ to searches for which the cops lack probable cause.” Chapman continued, “True, the change would let criminals operate at less risk. But hassling the innocent to catch the guilty is an abuse of our constitutional principles. In Illinois last year, police conducted 2.17 million traffic stops. Just 8,938 yielded contraband—one bust for every 242 stops.”

Unfortunately, Chapman goes on in the editorial to extol the virtues of automatic traffic enforcement, a major step in the wrong direction, which most of the online commenters were quick to point out.

On top of traffic stops, did you know that law enforcement use at least fifteen different types of checkpoints to stop and question motorists?

In what country would it be acceptable to stop and question millions of people?

Certainly not America the land of the free, right?

For years, police have had to meet ticket quotas during their shifts. A Google search for “do police have quotas” returned over five million hits, and a Google search for “police ticket quotas 2017” returned close to six million hits.

In 2015, a Boston.com story said Traffic Ticket Quotas are Real. “Officers were told to issue more revenue-generating tickets. Officer Tom Delaney said that officers who didn’t operate under the system wouldn’t get overtime assignments and other perks.”

It’s the same story across the country.

Police departments send text messages to officers on the road reminding them to reach their quotas during their shifts. In 2015, a New York City Police Department (NYPD) officer claimed he was texted about not meeting ticket quotas and denied a night off.

In 2017, the NYPD agreed to pay $56.5 million to people written bogus tickets by police.

If the public knew how much money is being made off of motorists each year from taxes, fines and arrests there would be a public outcry.

The Stanford Open Policing Project points out that police don’t want the public to know how many people are stopped each year. “Some states don’t collect demographics of who police pull over. States that do collect the information don’t always release the data.”

Why do we know how many people are arrested for drunk driving each year but have no data about how many motorists have been ticketed by police?

According to Stanford, “The most common police interaction — the traffic stop — has not been tracked, at least not in any systematic way.”

It’s 2017 and we still don’t know how many motorists are being stopped and ticketed in America!

States like California and Texas have stopped 24-32 million motorists from 2009-2015, while states like Rhode Island and Montana have stopped approximately 500,000-825,000 motorists.

Secrecy is a cop’s number one priority.

The Open Policing Project found that police require less suspicion to search black and hispanic drivers than whites and they’re two or three times more likely to be searched: “After accounting for age, gender, and location, we find that officers ticket, search, and arrest black and hispanic drivers more often than whites… when pulled over for speeding, black drivers are 20% more likely to get a ticket (rather than a warning) than white drivers, and hispanic drivers are 30% more likely to be ticketed than white drivers. Black and hispanic motorists are about twice as likely to be searched compared to white drivers.”

“When we applied the threshold test to our traffic stop data, we find police require less suspicion to search black and hispanic drivers than whites. This double standard is evidence of discrimination,” the findings noted.

This is the first study that shows police are stopping and questioning thousands of motorists every day and millions of passengers every year.

The next time you’re stopped by the police, exercise your right not to speak. To travel freely in America is not a privilege, it is one of our constitutional rights.

Editor’s Note: The opinions expressed in this newsletter are those of the author. For the NMA’s list of Traffic Stop Do’s and Don’ts, click here.

“Being born in the late ‘50s, Sting Ray’s were a very popular bicycle when I was growing up.

I wanted to paint a piece that would bring back the emotion that I had as a kid riding my own bicycle wishing I was on an actual motorcycle. I’d even clip a playing card to my spokes to make it sound like I had an engine.

I hope that when people see the completed work, it brings them back to a happy place in their life.”

New TECH Bikernet Reader Comment!–

I’m going to buy me one of these bikes from Jeff. What a pleasure it’s been working out the details with him.

Jeff is one of the most accommodating guys I’ve ever worked with and a total, class act. He’s so down to earth, straight forward and honest.

He really wants the buyers of his bike to be happy and enjoy their purchase.

I’m thinking about going with a springer front end. What do you think? Watch for my “Kleen Tangerine” version of this bike coming soon!

–Bill Rieg
Seattle, WA

Yes, Jeff is all class and his bikes are classic. Regarding springs, make sure you buy American Made. Springers are quirky front ends, and if you like to push a bike into wild corners, they aren’t the best choice.

You can run an old wide glide with a Race Tech package and it will handle like a dream in tight places.

Don’t get me wrong. I like springers and run lots of them, but then I know what I’m getting into for a particular bike.

We can’t wait to see your Kleen Tangerine. Maybe we can feature it.
