Hey,

Just back from Vegas Bikefest, and I’m lost. I don’t know which way to turn and next week we’re riding to the Smoke Out. We’ve got book deadlines to meet, features to write, and the Smoke Out is just around the corner.

But goddamnit, we’ll make it. Watch out, this week will be exciting. New Cantina Soap Opera tomorrow, new girls, features, you name it. Let’s hit it, before I break something:

XTREME CHARGE

BIKERNET WORKING WITH XTREME CHARGE BATTERY TENDERS– You are right, that is one of the keys to the Xtreme Charge. With the Xtreme Charge, a battery cannot be in any way damaged or overcharged. In fact, the combination of proprietary software and charge algorithms working together with our patented pulse technology will extend battery life by 2-3 times if it is used as much and as often as possible.

With the cost of batteries now a days, at an MSRP of $99.95 this feature alone will more than pay for itself in short order.

The Xtreme Charge is a great communicator. On the face of the charger there is a light or set of lights that indicates each step in the connect, test, charge and pulse maintain process.

A charge status light comes on when the charge starts at the same time the first in a set of 4 lights that indicates 25% state of charge and moves up to 100% charge begins to light up one after the other while the battery is re-gaining “life”.

As the battery reaches 100% state of charge the 100% charged light stays on and the battery charge light goes out and instantly a set of 3 pulse status lights come on in a constant upward lighting action, this indicates that the charge is off and the charger has entered its pulse maintenance mode.

96710-TL---Case-Lap-Tool 11

SUNDAY TOOL FROM JIMS, BIG TWIN CASE LAP TOOL– Use on 1958-present single cam. (Note: Includes aftermarket motors.)

JIMS goes the next step in case lapping with the release of our new pinion bearing race lap. This tool allows the engine builder to achieve the best of both worlds: removal of more material in less time with greater accuracy than a conventional lap.

JIMS case lap-the first of its kind-is guided on both sides of the pinion bearing race. This additional support on the cam gear side of the bearing race is achieved by means of a bolt on base plate that precisely locates a drill bushing in which the lap turns. This base plate is located on the same engine case pins as the cam cover.

The positioning of this drill bushing is held within .0002? to the engine case pins and within .0002? of case centerline.

Now, instead of guiding only from the left side with Timken bearings, which are a floating fit, JIMS case lap uses a special ground bearing sleeve to hold left side of lapping shaft without movement. Both ends of the lap are supported in precisely the same centerline as the flywheel assembly. With this extremely rigid arrangement, it is possible to power the lap with a low speed drill motor without fear of chatter in the lapped bearing race.

If a drill motor is not available, JIMS lap can be powered by the conventional hand crank. Use JIMS No.1710 to remove snap ring, a must on 1990- present H-D cases.

Note: For 1958-69 early cases, use H-D No.2341HW original cam cover screws.

All wear surfaces are hardened and ground tool steel for a lifetime of service.
Note: Use 1023-TL.

*To the jerk that stole my son’s bike this mornin 09/28 19:35:34

Dear F**k-wad,

Hey, you know the motorcycle you stole this morning to fuel your meth addiction? You know, the vintage 1972 green Honda CB 450? Let me tell you about what that meant to him, not that it would matter to you. We bought it for him for his 21st birthday for $600. It was in a barn when we got it and had less than 500 miles on it.

Frankly when we brought it home it looked like s**t and sounded like a drive by shooting. He and his dad spent countless hours out in the garage, shining up the chrome, rebuilding the carburetor, welding the pipes and waxing the tank. Finally after a year they made that thing beautiful.

Not only that, they had some good conversations and his dad was teaching him a skill. It meant a lot to him. It meant time with his dad. It was also a cheap way to get to work. Honestly, face it methman, I know you forgot what it was to be a decent human being. Let me remind you….. “Work” is what an “honest” person does to make money.

Stealing and being a “strawberry” or the caboose on a train isn’t what most people do to get by. You stole more than a motorcycle. You stole a good man’s mode of transportation, but most importantly you stole a reminder of time with his dad. So, smile with your blackened teeth, pick your face into ulcers, and gloat about the $600 score you got this morning.

Go to hell….oh wait, you’re already there.

NATIONAL MOTORCYCLE SAFETY GRANT AWARDEES ANNOUNCED– The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the 2007 list of states that will be receiving motorcycle safety grant awards. All of the states that will be receiving the dedicated funds received at least $100,000. The program will outlay a total of $6 million to 47 states and Puerto Rico. That’s an increase over the 44 states and the island territory that received the funds last year.

“The increase in states applying for and receiving these funds highlights what riders have known for years: quality rider education and awareness campaigns work,” said Jeff Hennie, Vice President of Government Relations for the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF). He added “The wild success of this program ensures that it will continue to be a key component of the motorcycle safety landscape.”

The grant program, also know as the “2010 Funds” after the section where it can be found in the most recent SAFETEA-LU highway bill (PL 109-59), was an idea born out of the motorcyclists’ rights community. This important legislation was drafted and lobbied for by the MRF and supporting State Motorcyclists’ Rights Organizations (SMROs).

Now some marching orders — it is your job as stakeholders in the motorcycle safety community to watchdog your governor’s highway safety rep to see that the funds are used wisely and appropriately. It is important to note that the US Congress wrote the legislation to direct the use of the funds to ONLY go toward rider education or motorcycle safety awareness programs. The money is not for impaired riding campaigns (there is a separate set of 402 funds available for those programs) and it is not for personal protective equipment enforcement or any other inappropriate spending.

The legislation is air tight and the agreement that the states enter into when they accept the funds is iron clad — use these funds to implement or expand rider education and motorcycle awareness campaigns and that’s it. Should you become aware of any mischief when it comes to the 2010 funds in your state, please contact the MRF Washington DC headquarters.

The legislation also makes these funds available to not-for-profit organizations incorporated in your state through your governor’s highway safety representative. The law does not command your state government to make the 2010 funds available to not-for-profits, but simply says they can if they choose. Your next job is to make a strong argument with your state government to turn over some of the funds to your SMRO to fund your rider education or motorcycle awareness programs.

The full list of awardees along with the amounts received is below. Arkansas, Kansas and Vermont are new to the 2010 grant program this year. States either not applying for or not qualifying for the funds this year are Alabama, Mississippi and South Carolina.

THAT’S IT–That’s all you’re gonna get this Sunday, but next Wednesday and Thursday, we’ll launch a major weekly update.

We’ve got another party we must attend this afternoon, so I’m still rushing. I’d like to be more specific. Let me see. I have several chunks of fiction on hold, three bike features, including one from Australia and a Girl of Bikernet from Europe. We are editing and shipping illustrations and text to Wolfgang publishing for our Bonneville book project. What do you think if we launch a Metric department, for Metric Cruiser articles? Josh Placa would head the charge. That may start happening next week.

Chris Kallas is working on our Bikernet Alaskan Adventure T-shirt art and we ordered more 5-Ball Racing apparel, which we will ship to Sponsors and sell on the site. Plus another seat tech is headed our way and our S&S Twin Cam gear drive install. Let us know, if you need anything else.

Ride Forever,

–Bandit
