Hey,
I’m still scrambling after Bonneville, but it’s all good. Women are playing in the streets again, we’re planning to build the worlds fastest Panhead with Accurate Engineering. We will finish the Bonne Belle for a run in El Mirage next year, and I might take the Shrunken FXR and the Salt Shaker to Vegas for the Big Twin West Show in November.

I need to finish the Sunday News and tear the Panhead engine out of the Salt Shaker and ship it back to Berry for a complete check-over. I’m also going to post a Big Boar, 240 Dyna glide, wide tire install this afternoon. Let’s hit it:

INTERNAL FORK STOPS CONCLUSION– The headstock on the Hushboys frame is very similar to the one in this pic, except the Hushboys one has the locksop lugs machined into it.
Instead of using a bearing seated in a bearing cup, the Hushboys frame uses Tapered Roller bearings nd the track mounts direct into the headstock.
Rather than pound the bearing track in, I put the track in the deepfreeze for a few days prior to installing it and then heated the headstock with a hot air gun.
The Headstock expanded due to the heat and the bearing track contracted due to being 20* below freezing.
The result was that I was able to tap the bearing track in fairly easy and as the temperature of both items normalised I had a shrink fit.

SINGING BIKERBABE STILL IN THE RUNNING– Just wanted to let you know our singing biker babe, Dilana, has made it to the final 5 singers left on the show, Rockstar: Supernova. She continues to wow the audience and Supernova with her singing and performances. While her stage presence has remained strong, the last couple of weeks found her learning some off stage lessons the hard way.
She had a major FUBAR with “media day” when she committed the worse sin of all with the media. She answered questions truthfully. She took a beating for some of the things she said about the other rockers and proceeded to have a meltdown. Lot of drama over nothing, but it probably helped the shows ratings. The good news is she survived it all and now is back stronger than ever. She’ll be kicking ass for the next couple of weeks.
The remaining 5 are all great, so the showdown should be pretty good. We just need the Bikernet family to keep up support for Dilana and let’s put one of our own in the spotlight. The next show is Tuesday, Sept. 5th at 9:00 PM Eastern with the elimination show on Wednesday night. Catch an hour of rockin’ entertainment and don’t forget to throw a few votes Dilana’s way.

LETTER BLAMED MOTORCYCLISTS– In response to William Swift on daylight running lights: I know that his letter was to promote the use of daylight running lights on motorcycles, but it struck home and felt more like blame on motorcyclists.
I am a Baton Rouge police officer and was a motor officer for 19 years as well as a civilian rider for years before. Motorcycles of today are now equipped with the headlights coming on when started and remaining on when riding. There was a day when motorcycles did have an option to leave the headlights off, but that has changed.
In Cpl. Christopher Metternich’s crash, they were on. All police motorcycles are made and maintained to have the headlights come on and stay on when cranked up to ride. Our department has always had safety on the mind and even had our headlights on when the option was there.
What it comes down to is, when a crash occurs between a vehicle and a motorcycle, it has usually been that the driver of the vehicle states that they did not see the motorcyclist.
Most drivers do not take into account that there are a larger number of motorcyclists out there and therefore do not pay attention to them.
When checking the national standards of crashes, you will find that there are a higher number of crashes occurring and the increase of such crashes is due to the increase in number of drivers. You will also find that the reasons for these crashes are due to driver negligence. The word “accident” is a fallacy. It is through the neglect and disregard to other traffic that some drivers cause motor vehicle crashes. Less motor vehicle crashes will occur if drivers are more attentive and respectful of the traffic laws.

RUCKER PRO TUNING CENTER ACHIEVED S&S CERTIFICATION–Rucker Performance announces that the factory has been designated as a Pro Tuning Center by achieving certification in both S&S VFI (Variable Fuel Injection) and Sidewinder Training from S&S Cycle.
Rucker Performance is one of the top dealer centers in the United States with the S&S VFI certification. With this advanced training and expertise, Rucker Performance is qualified to work on all engines equipped with S&S fuel injection as well as the full line of S&S engines. The experienced Rucker Performance staff has the capability to use the Pro Tune II software and the SuperFlow dynamometer.
“The S&S Sidewinder and VFI certifications represent the highest level of commitment to training and performance at Rucker Performance,” said Bill Rucker, President of Rucker Performance. “With the introduction of the new fuel injected Assassin in our production line, it is critical for us to have a team of trained and certified technicians.”
The VFI training includes an in-depth classroom session that prepares students for live motorcycle tuning with S&S Pro Tune II software and follows with an all-day session on the SuperFlow dyno to put what is learned in place. By completing both aspects of the training at the La Crosse, WI, S&S facility, Rucker Performance is certified to work on all S&S fuel-injection systems.
“Having known Bill ever since I entered the v-twin industry, there was no doubt he would want to be one of the first dealers to become an S&S Pro Tuning Center. Bill and his people are always cutting edge,” said S&S president Brett Smith. “My only disappointment-and Bill’s as well-is that S&S is not quite ready to provide training and certification for our Proven Performance Warranty Centers. Once we’re ready for that, Rucker Performance will be one of the very first such centers and will service the critical Dallas/Fort Worth area for us.”

HAPPY HOUR FOR DRINKERS’ WAGES– New study reveals that those who enjoy a tipple now and then earn 10 to 14 percent more than teetotalers. September 14 2006: 10:16 AM EDT NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — If you thought swigging beer or indulging in a glass of chardonnay was putting your career on a fast-track to nowhere, think again.
In fact, a study conducted by two economists and published Thursday by the Reason Foundation and in the latest edition of The Journal of Labor Research, says that drinkers earn 10 to 14 percent more than those who refrain from drinking.
“Instead of earning less money that nondrinkers, drinkers earn more,” authors of the study, Bethany Peters and Edward Stringham, wrote. More specifically, the study found that workers who drank in a social setting earned more than those who tipped a glass at home.
The study contends that social capital, which entails everything from a person’s charisma to the size of their social network, can be enhanced by drinking.
Those who drink socially, for example, may have an easier time finding a new job if they had made more business contacts, the authors claim, or they might strengthen relationships with co-workers or clients that could ultimately affect their salary.
While earnings for both men and women benefited from drinking, the study discovered a few noteworthy differences between the two groups.
Female drinkers earned 14 percent more than non-drinkers, while males who drank earned 10 percent more than their teetotaler counterparts.
At the same time, men who went to a bar at least once a month earned an additional 7 percent on top of the 10 percent drinking premium. But women who engaged in similar behavior did not experience any effect on their earnings.
The authors said their research came in response to growing efforts to restrict drinking on college campuses, limit alcohol advertising and raise taxes on liquor.
A spokesman for Reason Foundation, a libertarian public policy research organization which was founded in 1968, said the group was not commissioned by any outside parties to conduct the study.

WHAT HAPPENED TO 4-CORNERS– There is a lot of pissed of people wondering what the hell happened in Montezuma County. The promoter gave no indication that the rally had been cancelled even though an injunction prohibiting the rally was signed on Monday, August 28. Still the promoter did nothing to notify the biker community that the injunction was signed prohibiting the rally from taking place. Lots of folks from Arizona went and will be finding out that the rally was cancelled after they get there.
What really burns me is that the rally promoters knew that they were denied a “high impact use permit” in July. What did they do then? Your guess is as good as mine. They certainly didn’t get the word out to the biker community.
Perhaps it’s just time to put the four corners rally out of its miserable existence.

RALLY PROMOTER ARRESTED– Dan Bradshaw had hoped to spend this weekend presiding over Rally in the Rockies. Instead, he will spend it in Montezuma County Jail after being arrested Friday on a warrant out of New Mexico. Bradshaw was taken in on a $10,000 bond for embezzlement after the Colorado Bureau of Investigation discovered the active warrant, said Montezuma County Sheriff Gerald Wallace.
The bureau notified local law-enforcement, and sheriff’s deputies arrested him. Wallace said he did not know the details behind the warrant. Bradshaw was arrested at 5:20 p.m. near the intersection of U.S. Highway 160 and County Road 44, just east of Mancos, Wallace said. “He was very cooperative,” Wallace said.
Bradshaw will remain in jail until he appears before a judge, which probably will happen Tuesday, Wallace said. The arrest is only the latest of Bradshaw’s troubles. He canceled Rally in the Rockies after Montezuma County obtained a court injunction banning him from holding events. The last-minute cancellation affected the plans of thousands of bikers expected to attend the rally.
Bradshaw is embroiled in several lawsuits. The Southern Ute Indian Tribe sued him in tribal court, alleging breach of contract for pulling the rally out of Ignacio. In state court, the tribe is suing Bradshaw for defamation. Bradshaw, represented by Durango attorney William Zimsky, countersued in the tribal case.
Bradshaw also has sued Montezuma County, alleging commissioners violated his constitutional rights by denying a permit to hold the rally at Echo Basin Ranch near Mancos. And in 2004, Bradshaw sued the Colorado State Patrol over a cost dispute related to patrol of the rally.

You may recognize the name Cycle Source Magazine and you may have even picked up a copy at events or shops in the North East over the past decade, but now the fastest growing “Grass Roots Motorcycle Publication” is coming to a neighborhood near you. After starting a regional, advertising based publication and running it for over eight years in the Tri-State area around Pittsburgh, PA, the staff of Cycle Source took a bold step by offering their publication on news stands in nine states. During the year that they existed in that new arena, the publication continued to refine its content and quality. In July of 2006, through a deal with North American based Coast to Coast Newsstand Services Partnership, Cycle Source launched its first nationally available issue in national chains covering 48 states & Canada. At 100 pages, this new national American motorcycle magazine has an entirely different approach to the subject matter, the un-extreme! What Cycle Source offers is a unique look into the world of motorcycle culture. I say motorcycle culture because the life-style that surrounds the actual rider of a motorcycle is just as important. More importantly, the material is better served from what they call a “Grass Roots” approach to the subject. The average motorcyclist today is just that, the average man or woman from society. The best way to give them information about the thing they love is to tell a story that they can relate to. That’s what Cycle Source Magazine does. Cycle Source Magazine is available on national newsstands at the cover price of $3.99 U.S and $4.99 CAN., through subscription at $15.00 a year and can be carried by any motorcycle shop, or motorcycle related business. Your business can get as few as ten Cycle Source Magazines, at no initial charge, to sell in your shop for a profit of 40%. You may also return anything you don’t sell just like any magazine you might already carry. The Cycle Source Magazine PULL OUT OF WASHINGTON, D.C. QUICK!– If you consider that there has been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theatre of operations during the last 22 months, and a total of 2,112 deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000 soldiers. The firearm death rate in Washington D.C. is 80.6 per 100,000 for the same period. That means that you are about 25% more likely to be shot and killed in the U.S. Capitol, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, than you are in Iraq. Conclusion: The U.S. should pull out of Washington immediately. –from Rogue THE RAY WHEELER STORY– Started my summer on a freshly rebuilt dyna.. after a 1,000 mile road test, rebuilt it a second time…. SUPPORTS GOLD COAST BIKE WEEK – AUSTRALIA– LA CROSSE, WI (September 15, 2006) S&S Cycle is proud to announce their support and sponsorship of Gold Coast Bike Week for the second consecutive year. The event, in its 8th running, took place on August 29 through September 4, 2006, in Queensland, Australia. S&S representatives including VP of Product Development, Scott Sjovall, and Events Manager, James Simonelli, attended and worked closely with Australian Distributor East Coast Custom to aid in the support and sponsorship of several of the week’s activities. The week kicked off with an S&S sponsored ride-in bike show at the popular Broadbeach Mall. Approximately 300 bikes competed in 12 classes with a group of 4 guest judges, making for a low key and fun evening. “It was exciting to see how the Australians incorporate our products into their custom creations, although it sure made my job as a judge difficult,” said Scott Sjovall. Throughout the week, the filming of The Australian 124 Biker Build Off Challenge continued. The ever present film crew captured the people’s choice voting as well as the many trials and tribulations of the team members and event sponsors. “This program closely parallels our own successful 124 VFI Challenge of 2004,” noted S&S Events Manager, James Simonelli. “While there were a fair share of arguments and disagreement, there also existed a unique camaraderie between these guys. I look forward to seeing the finished product.” Other events included the S&S sponsored Chopper Shop Cruise, which this year spotlighted ECC premier dealer, Twin Tech, and a Biker’s Ball. East Coast’s own Neal Bolam was chosen as “The Most Influential Motorcycling Identity of 2006”. Additionally, East Coast Custom was identified as “The Motorcycle Industry Business of the Year” at the first annual Australian Motorcycle Industry awards. Winding down the week was the S&S Sponsored National Chopper Show. Several prizes and $5000 in cash were awarded to various class winners. In the end, King Pin Choppers, the overall grand champion, walked away with a special Brett Smith Signature Series S&S V124 engine. WOW, WHAT CRAZY DAY–It’s just afternoon and I’m going to try to post two stories, then jump into the shop for Panhead wrenching. Then I’m headed to Sierra Madre to see one of the rarest big tank Crockers on the planet. It was owned by a famous Booze Fighter, he signed the seat. Never a dull moment. Next week I’ll visit Rockem Sockem in Phoenix then ride the new Saxons to Sedona. I swear, tomorrow I’ll work exclusively on my Sturgis Story and try to nail it to the site. As soon as I return from the artsy vortex over Sedona I’ll hammer on the Bonneville report. We’re still waiting to see if we have a record. It actually doesn’t matter. The experience was everything. Have a helluva week. Ride Forever, –Bandit
