I’m still catching up on sleep from Las Vegas Bikefest. I’m also in the process of constantly learning. I’m learning business, new technology and constantly on the search for more information regarding our freedoms to ride and build motorcycles.
I’ve been after the EPA and CARB in California for several years purely from a freedom basis. The planet may or may not be headed down a troublesome path, but these agencies don’t need to attack motorcycles for any reason. But recently many other issues came to light. I’m going to touch on a couple here.
The Wall Street Journal recently reported in the Week Magazine: A new study from the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology has concluded that most forensic-evidence techniques—including fingerprint, bite-mark, firearm, footwear, and hair analysis techniques—have surprisingly high error rates, and often are “rank guesswork.” Only “the most basic form of DNA analysis” is scientifically sound, the study found. Forensic experts work for the prosecution, natch. Let that sink in.
Several times recently during heated discussions on the EPA, the cow fart issue surfaced. I listened and was intrigued but didn’t know the facts until the Redhead of Redheads found a documentary on Netflix called the Cowspiracy from www.cowspiracy.com. This documentary will blow your mind. Here are just a handful of facts:
Animal Agriculture is responsible for 18 percent of greenhouse gas emissions, more than the combined exhaust from all transportation.
Livestock and their byproducts account for at least 32,000 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year, or 51 percent of all worldwide greenhouse gas emissions.
Methane has a global warming potential 86 times that of CO2 on a 20-year time frame.
That’s not all. The one thing on the planet that gives back to the environment is plant life and trees and we are cutting them down at the rate of one acre per second for live stock grazing and feed production.
Get this: One cow and a café require 10 acres of grazing land. A cow eats 140 pound of feed and drinks 40 gallons of water a day. The production of one gallon of milk takes 1000 gallons of water.
I’m just letting this sink in. Let’s get to the news. I’ll bring you more on this topic in the near future. One more fact: In 1812 there were 1 Billion folks on earth, in 1912 there was 1.5 Billion and in 2012 we exploded to 7 Billion. Hang on, over 200,000 babies are born every day.

AUSTRALIAN NEWS REPORT–
Andy, the main subject of this news item is the guy who has built my last four custom bikes.
I am told that even if the Federal court judges that he should stay in Australia, the Immigration Minister can, with a stroke of a pen, once again cancel his visa and kick him out of our country.
It is not right that one man, the minister, should not be beholden to the law of the land.

A one-way ticket out of Australia
It is as breathtakingly simple as it is blunt. And it is now one of the most effective tools in the armory being used by law enforcement to combat bikers in Australia … writes Nigel Hunt in a rehashed “police/politician PR puff piece” for the South Australian Sunday Mail newspaper.
Federal Justice Minister Michael Keenan has revealed the Federal Government has cancelled the visas of 116 motorcycle club members and other criminals as the war against organized crime continues unabated.
One by one, they are slowly being picked off. While some are household names, others are known to no one but their immediate circle of friends and family.
So far, three Adelaide bikers have had their visas cancelled as the purge continues. The highest-profile club member deported is Mongols state treasurer Andrew Peter Stevens.
His clinical removal took place in June. He was still in bed when Crime Gangs Task Force detectives and STAR Group members “knocked’’ on the door of his home. In minutes he was travelling in a police convoy – dressed only in underpants – to Adelaide Airport where he was placed on a charter jet that ferried him straight to Christmas Island.
Stevens, a father of six and grandfather of three, has lived in Australia for 45 years after emigrating from the UK with his family aged just nine. He remains in custody at Christmas Island, having opted to fight his deportation from there, rather than the UK.
His application for a review of the decision is set down for a hearing before the Full Court of the Federal Court in November.
He is arguing his deportation is constitutionally invalid.
There is little doubt Stevens’ legal team is pushing a heavy wheelbarrow up a very steep hill to win the appeal.
An identical challenge by former Rebels national president Alex Vella was quashed early last year. He subsequently sought leave to appeal that decision in the High Court but, in October last year, it was refused.
Vella, 60, was visiting his birth country of Malta in mid-2014 when then-Immigration Minister Scott Morrison cancelled his visa, leaving him with no legal means of returning to Australia.
Another ousted Adelaide biker is Comanchero Paul Burgess. He was also removed from Adelaide in June and, likewise, is fighting the order rescinding his visa.
Under Section 501 of the Immigration Act an individual’s visa can be cancelled with the stroke of Minister Peter Dutton’s pen.
The clause allows cancellation on character grounds if individuals “are or have been a member of a group or organization or had or have an association with a person, group or organization that the minister reasonably suspects of being involved in criminal conduct”
Keenan said the cancellation of outlaw motorcycle club gang members’ visas has had a “significant’’ disruptive effect, from the micro day-to-day operations – including criminal activity – in Australia to the larger scale disruption to the command and control of OMCGs.
“By removing individuals who exude influence within the criminal gang, including some in long-term leadership positions, the Government is destabilizing criminal groups and interrupting their criminal operations,’’ he told the Sunday Mail.
Surprisingly, about 20 per cent of SA’s 206 full-time club members are on the ACIC’s top secret national criminal target list.
Nationally, there are now 4700 patched members and 910 prospects across 38 groups.
The ATO also targeted 370 people as part of the operation, collecting $3 million in cash and launching 12 prosecutions.
Keenan said intelligence provided by the ACIC was “absolutely vital’’ in the success of such operations. “It is intelligence that has helped us stop 10 terror attacks in Australia, it is intelligence that has helped us exclude 116 very serious criminals from Australia through our visa strategy,’’ he said.
“Information is power in these things and that is what the ACIC brings, the intelligence we need.
“We are doing an awful amount of work to keep people safe in what is a difficult environment.

GOVERNMENT THEORY AND WASTE– Some poignant tribal wisdom of the old Lakota Nation, passed on from generation to generation, says that:
“When you discover that you are riding a dead horse,
the best strategy – dismount, as soon as possible.”
However, in most government agencies, a plethora of
bogus more advanced strategies are generally employed,
such as:
1. Buying a stronger whip.
2. Changing riders.
3. Appointing a committee to study the horse.
4. Arranging to visit other countries to see how other cultures
ride dead horses.
5. Lowering the standards so that dead horses can be included.
6. Reclassifying the dead horse as living-impaired.
7. Hiring outside contractors to ride the dead horse.
8. Harnessing several dead horses together to increase speed.
9. Providing additional funding and/or training to increase
the dead horse’s performance.
10. Doing a productivity study to see if lighter riders would improve
the dead horse’s performance.
11. Declaring that as the dead horse does not have to be fed, it is less costly, carries lower overhead and therefore contributes substantially more to the bottom line of the economy than do some other horses.
12. Rewriting the expected performance requirements for all horses.
And of course,
13. Promoting the dead horse to a supervisory position.
If you don’t understand this theory, you haven’t lived long enough, or you work for the government.

Inspired by that thrilling blast up the mountain, we’ve decided to try our best to recreate the fun and cheap thrill TEXAS-STYLE. We’re coining this weekend of frolicking and wheelie-laden sprints, The Twist Off.
Some might wonder “Why sprint races?” Well fellow Motonerds, sprint races are magical because of their informality, quick assembly and total inclusiveness. Much like our Handbuilt Motorcycle Show, we want to include EVERYONE.
Sprint racing allows anyone who rides a motorcycle, vintage-bike, dirt-bike, scooter, cruiser, cafe bike or really ANYTHING to compete at their own pace! This is to encourage you and your loud mouth friend to line up what you’ve got and twist open to full throttle or whatever you can handle.
We’re encouraging everyone out on our straight dirt track or asphalt drag we’re setting up at Little River Dragway to experience something new or re-settle old scores.

CYCLE TRADER JOINS REVER AND RIDE FOR KIDS IN SEPTEMBER CHALLENGE– “Cycle Trader Challenge for the Kids” to raise money for Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation
Cycle Trader, one of the most prominent providers of motorcycle classifieds advertising in the country, has announced a new partnership with Rever and the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation (PBTF).
The Cycle Trader Challenge for the Kids launched throughout the month of September and encouraged riders to log their traveled miles in Rever, a newly launched app bringing together motorcycle enthusiasts like never before.
Similar to other map-based mobile apps that track covered distances, Rever lets riders plan, record and share their trips with other riders. The platform has also partnered with Ride for Kids, a nonprofit organization sponsoring motorcycle rally events all over the country to raise money for pediatric brain tumor research.
The Challenge for the Kids ran throughout the month of September, with the goal of reaching 250,000 miles logged by motorcyclists in the app by the end of the month. Enthusiasts surpassed the goal by September 19th and continued to ride throughout the month, achieving over 380,000 total miles and 4,695 rides by September 30th. As a result, Cycle Trader will provide funding for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation to award college scholarships to three childhood brain tumor survivors.
“The PBTF is honored to be a recipient of this generous challenge,” said Tiffany Armstrong, vice president of campaign development for Ride for Kids. “Cycle Trader has been a wonderful partner in promoting our Ride for Kids program, the longest running charity motorcycle event in the country, and their investment in our scholarship program is deeply appreciated.”
The Rever app is available for download on both Google Play and iTunes. Cycle Trader would like to thank all of the riders who participated nationwide in the challenge and encourages enthusiasts to continue to get out and ride!
NEW MEXICO WELCOMES New Mexico a new MOTORCYCLE RIDERS FOUNDATION assistant rep– I would like to welcome a new assistant MRF Rep in New Mexico Raymond Gallegos.
Raymond serves as CO/Chair of the New Mexico Motorcyclist Rights Organization along with myself. He is a young freedom fighter, enthusiastic, a strong leader with a passion for motorcycle rights and safety awareness. I am proud to work beside him.
We have already heard that their will be upcoming mandatory helmet legislation for New Mexico in 2017. We have had an increase in motorcycle crashes reported to us in 2016. 186 motorcycles that we are aware of in our area of the state only with 35 fatalities.
Last year at this time we were a 140 crashes with 23 fatalities. We have spent a lot of time with our biker down program at the hospital supporting the families of the fallen motorcyclist and the injured. My concern is that they will use these statistics against us. We are preparing for the fight again.
I am sorry missed MOTM this year one of our board member lost his daughter to illness and I need to attend the funeral in support. James Smith NM assistant rep attended in representation of our state.

So sad to pass the news that Chuck ” Feets” Minert has died. He was an honest to goodness superstar, still racing and flying at 83, and a truly nice guy. Jody Weisel, his friend for almost 40 years has written a great tribute to him in MX Action Magazine. Feets will be remembered by his family and many, many friends and competitors. God Speed.

INDIAN 2017 WRECKING CREW
Indian has gathered a formidable team for the 2017 season. Jared Mees, Bryan Smith and Bryan’s long time rival, Brad Baker. Bryan Smith will carry the #1 plate in 2017. Indian has been renting and testing on tracks the day after the Nationals. Joe Kopp did a fine job of showing what the bike can do during the Santa Rosa weekend. Several Indians raced on Saturday night at the CFTA event.

On October 13th the AMA 2017 inductions will take place in Orlando, Florida. Trailblazer Hall of Famer and Board member, Dennis Mahan will be inducted along with: Chris Haines, Charles Franklin, Jeff Cole, Miguel Duhamel, Jack Johnson, Gloria Struck and Ronnie Jones.

PERRIS HALF MILE OCTOBER 8TH
The Perris half mile is little more than a week away. The race will be during the Farmer’s Fair and the speedway and fair have offered up an 8K purse. Several Pro racers including Brad Baker, Nick Armstrong and Kayl Kolkman will be there. A crowd is expected and the fair is going on so get there early and ride the ferris wheel.

SAN PEDRO, CA SPORTSWALK TO HONOR SIX NEW INDUCTEES– San Pedro Sportswalk’s new inductees include Hendi Ancich, Doug Krikorian, Jon Arnett, Mike Walsh, Sarah Gascon, and Auto Racing’s Agajanian Brothers
Patterned after the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Sportswalk quickly became a homegrown favorite when it was launched in 1978 as a tribute to star athletes.
The popular outdoor tradition that brings out marching bands and scores of people to celebrate will honor new inductees on San Pedro’s Sportswalk to the Waterfront at 10 a.m. Oct. 10, in San Pedro’s historic downtown district. The free ceremony will recognize this year’s great athletic inductees with the installation of bronze plaques into the sidewalk of downtown San Pedro on Sixth Street between Palos Verdes and Centre Street.
This year’s inductees are:
Cary, J.C. Jr., and Chris Agajanian the sons of one of auto racing’s greatest car owners and promoters, J.C. Agajanian. As the owners and operators of Ascot Park, the storied raceway in Gardena, CA, which launched the career of Evel Knievel, the Agajanians brothers produced over 160 events a year and boasted crowds of over a half a million loyal fans annually. In 2016, the boys succeeded in stacking up another win at the Indianapolis 500 with a dramatic finish, as their rookie driver brought the famed #98 IndyCar across the finish line first. This thrilling win gave the Agajanian family four of the most coveted victories in motorsports, the 1952, 1963, 2011 and 2016 Indy 500s. To this day, three winning #98 racecars are displayed in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, while the fourth is expected to be installed later this year.
Hendi Ancich, a longshoreman from San Pedro, was an NFL referee for twenty-one years, including Super Bowl XXIV, two Pro Bowls, two Canton Hall of Fame games, and six years in the replay booth. Ancich, a graduate of San Pedro High, began officiating football games in 1961, starting with Pop Warner, then gradually moving up the ladder, doing high school games, junior college, Pac-10 and finally the NFL in 1981. At San Pedro, Ancich was a four-sport varsity letterman in baseball, football, track and tennis. He was an All-City lineman in football, played at Harbor College, and was the starting center for three semi-pro teams, the Longshoreman A.C., South Gate A.C., and the Anaheim Rhinos.
Jon Arnett is a Los Angeles football hero, who played most of his career in the Southland. A graduate of Manual Arts High School, Arnett was a running back for the USC Trojans, where he earned first-team All-American honors, and was presented the Voit Trophy, in 1954 and 1955, as the Pacific Coast’s outstanding football player. He was inducted to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2001.
The Los Angeles Rams drafted Arnett with the second pick in the first round of the 1957 NFL draft. He played for the team from 1957 to 1963, during which time he made five Pro Bowl teams. In 1964, Arnett moved to the Chicago Bears, where he concluded his career in 1966.
Sarah Gascon is an all-everything athlete that has excelled in numerous sports. A 2000 graduate of Mary Star High School, Gascon was a three-sport star at Southeastern Louisiana University, where she lettered in volleyball, softball, and soccer. While at Southeastern Louisiana, Gascon was a four year all-conference softball player, two time all-conference volleyball player, and she shattered an NCAA volleyball record for defensive digs. In 2004, Gascon was selected as the starting centerfielder for the inaugural USA national women’s baseball team and drove in the gold medal winning run at the first ever World Cup of Women’s Baseball. She is currently the captain of the USA women’s handball team.
Doug Krikorian has a strong place among the legends of Southern California sports media. He was a sportswriter for forty-four years – twenty-two at the Los Angeles Herald Examiner and twenty-two at the Long Beach Press-Telegram. In addition, Krikorian and the late Joe McDonnell started the McDonnell-Douglas Show, an L.A. sports talk radio show, which appeared on and off the airways from 1992 to 2005. Krikorian covered twenty-six Super Bowls, twenty-five World Series, seventeen NBA Finals, three Olympic Games, and countless championship boxing matches. He has written two books, “Between the Bylines (The Life, Love and Loss of Los Angeles’s Most Colorful Sports Journalist)” and “Los Angeles Sports Memories.”
Mike Walsh will forever be known in the Harbor area as the man who brought a Los Angeles City football title to San Pedro High School – and he did it five times. Walsh began his career as the head coach of San Pedro in 1991 and led the Pirates for twenty five years before retiring after the 2015 season. In that span he won 227 games and five city titles. The Pirates were back-to-back champions twice — 3A champs in 1992 and 1993, 4A champs in 1996 and 1997, and they shared the Division 1 championship in 2008 after tying Narbonne in a thrilling come from behind game at the Coliseum.

THE BAD COP FILES–
Ramsey Orta, the man who filmed the most infamous police killing of Eric Garner – and was thereafter targeted by police in a barrage of “false and/or trumped up charges” – was sentenced to four years in prison for gun possession and drug charges.
While many of NYPD’s finest will celebrate the silencing of an activist who helped expose police brutality, the reality is that another man is being locked in a cage for victimless crimes, while the one who murdered Eric Garner walks free.
As court officers put handcuffs on Orta, protesters stood up in the courtroom, holding their fists in the air, flashing peace signs and chanting, “No justice no peace! F–k these racist police!”
We can only hope that Orta does not suffer physical and mental abuse while in the confines of a prison. He endured a short time in jail last year until a grassroots fundraising effort bailed him out, but while there Orta found rat poison in his food and refused to eat.
“My biggest fear about prison would be not coming out alive. I fear for myself being behind enemy lines,” said Orta. “I’m going in there with a level head. I’m praying that I can come right out and continue my life as an activist.”
We can’t help but be reminded of another police brutality activist – Sandra Bland – who mysteriously died in jail after being pulled over for improper lane usage.

It is Not Unusal For Cops to retaliate by trying to plant guns and or drugs on someone who has informed on their illegal behavior.
I know it happened to me in Connecticut. Luckily a Good Old Cop searched me before a state trooper tried to plant drugs on me.

UNCLE MONKEY ON THE PROJECT CONUNDRUM–
Oh, I want to do this, oh, I want to do that. We work with our hands and aren’t afraid to roll up our sleeves. We are always looking for something new, something exciting to test our metal. A little project here, a big one over there we start collecting projects to occupy our free time.
Some sit on the shelf for years waiting for money, others are just waiting for time, and others find themselves put back because something else catches our eye.
Eventually though we have to start pumping the brakes. Eventually we have to start being honest with ourselves about what we are doing, where we are going and just how much time is really left on that invisible hour glass losing its sand.
We need to accept our mortal realm by committing to completing the tasks we ultimately want to accomplish; which projects do we really want to say we have done, what we have completed.
For me there is always another project, another curiosity, another skill I would like to pick up and learn – skilled at everything but master of none.
Lately though, I have become more honest with myself about what I can and cannot accomplish. There are dozens of little projects; little jobs gathered up over the years.
Maybe it is because my house it virtually finished after over a decade of renovations. Maybe it is guilt of shuffling projects from one area to the next, so I have room to work. Maybe, it is the list of jobs to do that I have stuck to my computer at work that don’t seem to ever get crossed off.
I’d love to build a cabin but I would also like to build a hot rod. An old knucklehead or Pan would be nice or maybe an Indian, write another book, travel a little more, or spend a little more time with my granddaughter.
Somethings I can do right now. Somethings will have to stay just out of reach. That means passing up on that really great deal on a frame. It means letting some of my existing projects go. It also means setting others to the side and hammering out several small projects before sliding back into a major one. But for now it is focusing on just one.

The legalization of medical cannabis increases workplace participation among those aged 50 and older. This is according to a study published by the National Bureau of Economic Research.
According to the research, “health improvements experienced by both groups (older men and women) permit increased participation in the labor market”, which led to a “9.4 percent increase in the probability of employment and a 4.6 percent to 4.9 percent increase in hours worked per week”.
The paper – titled The impact of medical marijuana laws on the labor supply and health of older adults: Evidence from the Health and Retirement Study – concludes by stating that; “Medical marijuana law implementation leads to increases in labor supply among older adult men and women”, and that “These effects should be considered as policymakers determine how best to regulate access to medical marijuana.”
To determine this, researchers at the John Hopkins School of Public Health and Temple University examined decades worth of data from the Health and Retirement Study, and studied how implementation of medical cannabis laws altered workforce participation.
The results are similar to those of a study published in July in the journal Health Economics; that study found that following medical cannabis legalization, full-time employees between the ages of 50 and 59 were 13% less likely to report absences due to sickness; those ages 40 to 49 were 11% less likely, and those aged 30 to 39 were 16% less likely. It concludes by saying that; “The results of this paper therefore suggest that medical marijuana legalization would decrease costs for employers as it has reduced self-reported absence from work due to illness/medical issues.”

IT NEVER ENDS— While in Vegas a man in dark clothing approached our booth. Glancing both ways he said, “I’ve got to report something. I worked at a company modifying vans. We were contracted by CARB in California to build eight specially equipped vans with blacked out windows to be used for monitoring shops that might be installing performance products.”
We asked him to send photos. Maybe they should monitor farms…Plus, the other day I wandered into a muffler shop. The owner started to tell me about all the inspections he pays for each year including: The fire department (two departments), Building and Safety, Air Compressors are inspected, and his lifts are checked. In each case he’s charged, his day is interrupted, and his employees stopped from working.
