Another crazed day in Paradise, and this week Rogue took over the news with reports on various events from Bike Week, including this one from the Broken Spoke:
There is just so much going on during Daytona Beach Bike Week that it is impossible to attend all of the events. Like everyone else, I have choices and try to pick ones involving the best looking girls, the best food, and Jack Daniels. That’s my essential criteria, and I’m sticking with it.
The Broken Spoke Saloon on US1 in Ormond Beach is one of the places I always roll to, hell they treat me like a king. My friend Jack Schit was the master of ceremonies and really keeps things going, especially when he gives away Free Shit.
They schedule bands through out the week and couple the rockin’ entertainment with numerous contests.
Chopin’ Block Ride –In Bike Show contained a lot of sharp entries and the staff gave away some great trophies and prizes.
Guest appearances throughout the week included well know bikers. The Bar Maids are Hot and Fun plus they do make good strong, gut-bustin’ drinks.

DAYTONA BIKE WEEK, A WEEK LATER FALLS DIRECTLY INTO SPRING BREAK– The 2012 Daytona Bike Week which always has so much going on had a few additional twists this year. Because of a change in NASCAR scheduling, Bike Week was held a week later, directly on top of college kids Spring Break.
There was some concern from law enforcement. There might be some scantily clad, hot nights issues. I was aware of two: some college girls are headed home with a smile on their cute faces and some great memories, while more than one young biker is walking around like a proud rooster.
Add ST. Patricks Day which gave many an added reason to drink and party, and of course they all wore green while doing it. Many of the outfits were quite interesting.

CATHY’S HELP FOUNDATION RIDE–Jeremy Johnson of Muttin Cycles and one of the Limpnickie Lot Builders organized a ride on Tuesday of Daytona Bike Week for Cathy’s Help Foundation.
The foundation caters to women battling breast cancer with their every day needs by supplying funds for medication, testing, home repairs and other bills.
The ride started at the Broken Spoke and stopped to pick up other riders at the Limpnickie Lot and ended at JB’ Fish Camp for some good food.

BANDIT’S LATEST BIRTHDAY GIFT–The folks over at the Firearms Blog found this incredible new design created by Arsenal Firearms, who provided these photos and the video below.
The AF team is clearly proud of their achievement, writing on their site that:
“To commemorate the legendary Colt 1911-A1 in the Centenary by making a true industrial market-ready double barrel .45 caliber pistol. We achieved success in the brief span of 6 months, after intense and round-the-clock 3D designing, stereolithographic modeling and parts machining.”
This is not an entirely new concept, and there have been many other double barrel pistols created in the past. In fact, ten years ago a Swiss armorer named Vivian Mueller cut and welded together parts of the storied Sig P210 for a similar effect. He successfully created a long slide, double barrel 9mm pistol that shot well. But the AF 2011 is the first time two pistols have been welded into one in a design that is shelf-ready and meant for sale.
That’s right — this model can be produced and sold in a mass market instead of just one-off collector pieces.
Now you may be wondering how the AF 2011 performs. Sure, it looks cool, and it certainly can throw rounds downrange, but what kind of patterns can it put on a target?
According to the AF team, the double barrel 2011 shoots cleanly and with good-enough accuracy:
“The gun can be handled by any shooter… [and] holds amazing and surprising target performance for the shooter: in fact, it will group all the 8 double .45 caliber rounds (16 bullets) held in the duplex, single columns magazines, in a target of the size of an orange at 15 yards and of a water melon at 25.”

Right after he finishes off some shots, the test shooter describes the stopping power in his hands:

IOWA GRAND MOTORCYCLE RALLY– The town of Newton, Iowa, will be alive this summer with bikers from around the country attending The Iowa Grand Motorcycle Rally at the Iowa Speedway this July 25th – 28th.
Kicking the inaugural Iowa Grand Rally into high gear is a meet and greet with stars of the hit FX Network TV series Sons of Anarchy, Katey Sagal “Gemma” and Charlie Hunnam “Jax” and the History Channel’s American Pickers star, Danielle Colby Cushman who will also host the Iowa Grand Tattoo Competition. Headlining music acts include Joe Diffie and Rev Theory, and the pyrotechnic ‘80s tribute band Hairball, with more headliner acts to be announced. Gallagher the Comedian is also bringing his smashing show to the Speedway rally.
“The Iowa Grand Rally is picking up steam every month, and I know all bikers will enjoy the inaugural IGR. The lineup of entertainment from bands to motorcycle events keeps growing weekly. Scammers use email, websites and even social media to trick taxpayers into sharing personal and financial information, which they can then use to steal your identity. Meant to either frighten or entice, these fraudulent messages may threaten a tax audit or offer a tax refund.
But know this: The IRS does not generally send unsolicited e-mails to taxpayers or request financial account security information, such as PIN numbers. Further, they will not discuss tax account information with taxpayers via e-mail or use it to request sensitive financial and personal information from taxpayers.
Signs of a tax scam
Scams may appear legitimate and some may even use the IRS logo. Warning signs that you’ve received a fraudulent message include:
* Requests for personal and/or financial information, such as your Social Security number and bank or credit card account numbers.
* Tempting offers that might persuade readers to click on links or respond to messages.
* Threats that suggest consequences for not responding to the email.
* Incorrect grammar, spelling or phrasing—especially when referencing the IRS or other government agencies—and links to inaccurate URLs. Rather than relying on links listed in the message, manually type the official IRS website directly into your search engine address bar to follow up.
Reporting scams
If you receive an online message you suspect is a scam, the IRS suggests taking the following steps:
* Do not open any attachments or links. These could lead you to a fake IRS website, where opening a link could download malware or allow someone to hack into your computer.
* Ignore messages that offer a refund. Instead, go to the IRS’s Where’s My Refund? site to determine if you are actually receiving a refund.
* Forward the message or web address to phishing@irs.gov.
* Delete the message.

WHAT COULD IT MEAN? No Emissions Testing for Pre-1981 Vehicles Proposed in California– There is one thing that virtually all automotive enthusiasts hate, and that is strict emissions inspection requirements. While there are some states with more lenient rules and some counties that don’t even have emission testing, California’s emissions standards in general are the epitome of a performance car owner’s nightmare. However, as we found out from the SEMA Action Network, more cars could be exempt from California’s strict emissions standards soon if newly drafted legislation is passed. Don’t rejoice yet, but all your pre-1981 vehicles might never have to be tested for compliance of emissions standards again.
If you’ve lived in California for some time, you may remember when the state had a rolling emissions-test exemption for all vehicles that were 30 years old or older. Unfortunately, this exemption was replaced by a law in 2004 requiring life-long emissions tests for all post-1975 vehicles.
While all 1976 and newer California vehicles (except vehicles 6 years old and newer) have to pass emissions currently to be able to be eligible for registration, this could soon change thanks to a bill introduced to the California Senate.
Proposed by Senator Doug LaMalfa, the new bill recognizes that not only are few pre-1981 vehicles owned compared to the number of cars on the road, but also that they have minimal impact on emissions. Senate Bill 1224 also endorses that the overwhelming majority of pre-1981 vehicles still driven are well maintained and driven less often, as well as shorter distances, than newer model years.
Senate Bill (S.B.) 1224 aims to bring pre-1981 vehicle owners some relief as their vehicles are a poor source for emissions reductions. With as few 1976 to 1980 model-year vehicles as there are compared to all the vehicles on the road, S.B. 1224 argues that exempting these five model years is not going to make a big enough impact on emissions to continue justifying the current post-1975 regulations.
Obviously having this bill passed is a big deal for California automotive enthusiasts and would mean fewer old cars are punished for emissions they barely contribute to.

Mike Beland and his new bike “Janet” had a great week at Daytona. First by winning the international motorcycle show ultimate builder bike show in the performance mod class with his 140 cubic inch nitrous land rocket, taking the big silver cup and a check for 2000 dollars. And then finishing the weekend with a win at the rats hole for the fourth time. BIKERNET SEA WORLD FINDINGS–Why Sharks Circle You Before Attacking…
Two great white sharks swimming in the ocean spied survivors of a sunken ship.
“Follow me son” the father shark said to the son shark and they swam to the mass of people.
“First we swim around them a few times with just the tip of our fins showing.”
And they did.
“Well done, son! Now we swim around them a few times with all of our fins showing.”
And they did.
“Now we eat everybody.” And they did.
When they were both gorged, the son asked, “Dad, why didn’t we just eat them all at first?
Why did we swim around and around them?”
His wise father replied, “Because they taste better without the shit inside!”

FROM RIVERA PRIMO THE ORIGINAL TAPER LIKE PUSHRODS– Way back in the late ’80s Mel Magnet (Founder of Rivera Primo Inc. formerly Rivera Engineering) was fooling around with pushrod design. Back then there wasn’t much of a choice except straight steel pushrods, and Mel was sure he could design something better.
Back into research & development we came to the conclusion that although chrome-moly steel works great with the other engines, due to the shortened length of the pushrod on the Twin Cam motors and the space restrictions when adjusting, aluminum would be the preferred metal for these puppies.

THE DEFINITION OF FREEDOM– I was having a conversation with a good friend the other day who is widely loved and respected in our community. He is an wise old man. I really cant stress the old part enough, I mean this dude is older than old but wise, well sorta wise.
He asked me a question I have thought about almost daily since he asked me three months ago. “What is the definition of freedom?” he pontificated. After thinking about it, I can say that I do not have an answer. I think it’s a lot of things to a lot of people. I think it is relative to everyone and totally limitless. But can also disappear completely in a second.
Freedom stands for something greater than just the right to act however I choose.
Certainly, freedom does mean the right to do as one pleases—to think, believe, speak, worship (or not worship), move about, gather, and generally act as you choose—but only until your choices start to infringe on another person’s freedom.
Abuse of freedom leads to its demise, think about some yelling “fire” in a crowded theater. Think about laws that limit sound emissions for motorcycles.
Some say the sharpest interpretation of freedom is the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action. I guess I could go along with that.
For me, freedom is about living my life the way I want too, having a government that is not oppressive (or too oppressive anyway), the freedom to own firearms, and riding a motorcycle without the possibility of mandatory roadside checkpoints. Right now I don’t have all of those freedoms.
So ask yourself, what is your definition of freedom and do you actually have it?

Dried salt lakes rather rare for the Swedes, so they use frozen lakes.
No yoke, two feet of ice and they are ready for the flying kilometer. This year was the fourth running and topspeed was set by a quad around 250km/h.
The Harley people where hoovering around 200 km/H ( 6o mph is like 100 km/H).
The challenge for the bikes is to not hit the tracks of the V8s, could be some snaking wobble riding. Next year at the 5th people are expected to come from all over the globe, once in a lifetime experience!

5th ANNUAL BIKER FUSION RAISES $16,000 in One Fun Filled Evening– Event promoters Carrie Repp of R&R Promotions and Ken Conte of Rise Above Consulting are pleased to announce the success of their “Biker Fusion” fundraiser, held for the fifth time last week as part of Daytona Bike Week festivities.
This year’s event had a great showing from the motorcycle industry and supporters, attracting more than 600 guests and raising more than $16,000 for Soldiers’ Angels, a volunteer-led non-profit that provides aid and comfort to active servicemen and women of the U.S. military as well as veterans and their families.
Funds contributed last week bring the total raised during the event’s five-year run to more than $75,000. Conte and Repp expressed gratitude to the event venue, the Doghouse Bar and Grill on Main Street in Daytona, as well as the long list of event sponsors.
“Once again, the way the community and the industry rally together to benefit those who’ve served our country is just awesome,” said Carrie Repp, event organizer and owner of R&R Promotions. “Our hosts, Dave Perewitz, Paul Yaffe and Steve Broyles did a great job, and we are so honored to have so many people come out to help veterans, those actively serving, and their families.”
Highlights included an appearance by Victory Motorcycles special guest Sergeant Major Harold G. Overstreet, USMC retired, the 12th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps (1991-1995), as well as a live auction of a variety of products from sponsors and supporters.
Fusion supporters also witnessed the unveiling of a custom Victory Motorcycles ride designed for legendary Marine and Drill Instructor R. Lee Ermey, a.k.a. “The Gunny.” Gunny’s new ride was custom designed and painted by the Victory Industrial Design staff. Polaris Motorcycles built this bike for him to ride in Daytona and at future military support rides.
DAYTONA BOOK SIGNING, Cannonball Diary– Chris Sommer Simmons was in Daytona for Bike Week and did numerous signings of her new book The American Motorcycle Girl’s Cannonball Diary.
It is about her ride on a 1915 Harley-Davidson motorcycle in a Coast to Coast Endurance Run from Kitty Hawk North Carolina to Santa Monica California in 16 days.
The book is extremely well done and keeps you interested from cover to cover. It also contains great photos, many by Michael Lichter.

KIEHL’S CHARITY DESERT RUN FROM VEGAS TO LA– Kiehl’s is embarking on a 5-day charity motorcycle ride next week (called Kiehl’s Desert Run for amfAR – from Vegas, through Palm Springs and Dana Point, into LA) to raise funds and awareness for amfAR. Along the way, we will announce a $25,000 donation, as well as unveil a custom bike designed by Paul Cox.
The group of riders is small (Kiehl’s President, Paul Cox, Timothy White, Grant Reynolds, Chris Maida) – ALL on customs!
Once we get into the LA area, we are inviting ANY local bikers to join us in a community ride on Sunday, April 1st.

HANG ON–The weeks are flying at us like rice at a wedding. This coming weekend we will hit you with another Antique from the Sturgis Museum, Chuck’s T-shirt article, with Rogue’s shots, and two more Bonneville updates as we catch up reporting on progress.
We will bring you the full Saddlemen tech on building a custom seat for my Mudflap Girl FXR. Saddlemen has taken bike seat making to a new level with the addition or their gel, then the spinal relief channel. Those two comforting aspects add two complete production processes to seat manufacturing. Natch, I was shooting for cool, but after I saw what they did with Buster’s Shrunken FXR seat, I decided to let the comfort masters add a lumbar support area. This puppy is designed to be cool, and long-distance rideable, including to Sturgis this year.
Next week we head back to the Saddlemen factory to work on the seat covering pattern. One more trip and I’ll ride that puppy home.
My son’s bike is rolling through heat cycles, and we are working with Le Pera on his seat. Christine is shipping me a seat pan, which I will modify and send back to the historic seat manufacturer in the Valley. Both bikes are that close to the road.
Next, you will see the Bonne Belle rolling chassis come together. Mike from Pacific Coast Cycles allowed us to use his antique 45 engine for mock-up, and it worked like a charm. We will mount the rear fender this weekend and probably modify the handlebars. We need to figure out how my grandson will fit, and shift this puppy to be as aerodynamic as possible.
