The Rapid City Journal and the Sturgis Buffalo Chip have partnered to create a daily newspaper to provide Rally-related news, and information regarding events and entertainment to locals and Rally-goers alike. The “Sturgis Rider Daily,” will be a collaborative effort, with Sturgis Rally news reported by Journal staff and motorcycle events and entertainment reported by respected motorcycle publication editor, Marilyn Stemp. Stemp has had many years’ experience covering the motorcycle world as long-time editor of IronWorks Magazine and founder of its digital successor, Iron Trader News.
The free daily newspaper will be created and printed overnight, then delivered in the early morning hours to more than 70 Black Hills locations and each Buffalo Chip campsite. Readers will receive fresh Rally news, a recap of the previous day’s happenings and up-to-date, detailed information and schedules for the current day’s events.
“The Rapid City Journal is the region’s most-respected paper,” says Rod Woodruff, Sturgis Buffalo Chip President. “We are proud to be able to partner with them in order to quickly gather news and have it distributed early the next morning. What we will create together will be like no other daily newspaper in the world.”
The Buffalo Chip’s staff of six professional photographers will provide a photographic chronicle of each day’s Rally experience—contributing photos of events, bike shows, camping life, concerts and contests. Readers can expect to see reviews of the previous night’s concerts; recaps of the many bike shows including information and photos of winners; tips on the best restaurants, shopping and events; and an up-close look at many displays of world-famous artwork. Power sports fans can look forward to recaps and standings from races and events at the Buffalo Chip’s new PowerSports Complex, including The Off-Road Championship races, Thunder at the Chip Outlaw Truck & Tractor Pulls, Nitro National Pro Hill Climb and AMA Extreme Dirt Track ATV Racing.
The premier issue of the timely “Sturgis Rider Daily” will be distributed on Saturday, Aug. 2, with subsequent issues published each day through Saturday, Aug. 9. Advertising space is available in each issue and may be purchased through a Rapid City Journal advertising representative or by calling Paul Mitchell at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip at 605-347-9000.
