RAINY DAY ON THE COAST BIKERNET SUNDAY POST for March 6, 2016

Hey,

Reports of major rains on the West Coast rocked our world. It hit hard last night for 15 minutes then peeled out, but the reports are hot and heavy about the storm approaching tomorrow. That’s cool, we checked the hatches and it’s a good time to build racks for the 5-Ball leather line in the Bikernet Gym.

An official for the LA BS department told me not to use the word GYM or I would be forced to get a permit. It’s a Rec Room. Good god.

I’m also working on the spacers for my Indian fender rails. I received a set from Indian, but I don’t like the way they work and will attempt an alternate system. You’ll see in the news this week.

Let’s hit the news quick.

MORRIS MAGNETO OWNER CRASHED–We’re not sure what happened yet, but Dave Shaw went down on his old Softail Saturday night while rolling off the 405 Freeway onto the 10 heading toward Santa Monica, California. He has a concussion and is in the California Medical Center, room 317, in Santa Monica. He’s stable, but they plan to keep an eye on him for a couple more days. No broken bones, and I was told glowing reports about his voluptuous Swedish nurse.

We will keep you posted. Dave was riding with the notorious Ben Kudon and Kelly Dube. They are being sought for questioning.

QUICK, OPEN THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY–
An Irish couple are having hard financial times, so they decide that
she’ll try being a hooker. She’s not quite sure what to do, so the husband says, “Stand in front of that bar and pick up a guy. Tell him you charge a hundred dollars. Any questions and I’ll be parked around the corner.”

She stands outside the bar for about five minutes showing her leg, when a guy pulls up and asks “How much?”

She says,”A hundred dollars.

He replies,” All I got is thirty.”

She says, “Hold on,” and runs back to the husband and asks. “What now. What can he get for thirty?”

“A hand job,” the husband replied. She runs back and tells the guy all he gets for thirty dollars is a hand job.

He agrees and she gets in the car. He unzips his trousers, and out pops this HUGE willy. She stares at it for a few seconds, then says. “I’ll be right back…”

She runs back to the husband. “What’s wrong?” he asks.

“Any chance you could lend this guy seventy dollars?”

NRA ALERT: Three Anti-Gun Bills Pass California (natch) Assembly Public Safety Committee– On Tuesday, March 1, the Assembly Committee on Public Safety passed three anti-gun bills and postponed a vote on the fourth. These egregious anti-gun bills are of serious concern to gun owners, sportsmen and Second Amendment supporters.

The following anti-gun bills passed the Assembly Committee on Public Safety by a party-line vote of 5 to 2. These bills will now move to the Assembly Committee on Appropriations. Supporting the bills: Assembly Member Quirk, Jones-Sawyer, Lopez, Low, and Santiago. Opposing the bills: Assembly Member Melendez and Lackey.

Assembly Bill 1663 and Assembly Bill 1664 are similar and would massively expand the current definition of “assault weapon” to include ALL semi-automatic centerfire rifles with a detachable magazine. The California State Sheriffs’ Association has even testified in opposition to both of these egregious bills.

Assembly Bill 1674 would make the 30-day handgun acquisition prohibition (often referred to as the one handgun a month law) applicable to all types of firearms and would eliminate the private party transaction exemption to the 30-day prohibition.

The hearing on Assembly Bill 1673 was postponed and a vote was not taken. We will inform you of any updates on this legislation when it becomes available.

AB 1673 would expand the definition of a “firearm” to include an unfinished frame or receiver that can be “readily converted to the functional condition of a finished frame or receiver.” These are sometimes referred to as 80% receivers.

BIKE WEEK 2016–
Daytona Bike Week businesses ready for a ‘repeat’ of Sturgis crowds. As Bike Week opens, merchants look for 75th anniversary boost

Store and bar owners are liking what they see so far as bikers arrive early on Main Street in Daytona Beach for Bike Week 2016.

Ready, Set Bike Week

Like restaurant and bar owners across Volusia and Flagler counties, chaplain Norm Schneller is ready for Bike Week’s debut Friday. But instead of steaks and beer, he’s stocked up on Bibles.

Schneller has been attending Daytona’s Bike Week for over 20 years. The veteran and ordained minister rode into town from Georgia Wednesday with his buddy Jim Sarratt, and Thursday afternoon they were parked on Main Street offering free Bibles stacked on top of their Harley Davidsons.
“Thirty seconds after we got off our bikes somebody walked up to us and asked us to pray for him,” said Schneller from his post outside of Froggy’s Saloon. “We’re just sharing Jesus here.”

Schneller and Sarratt weren’t the only early birds to the 10-day motorcycle rally. The 75th annual Bike Week begins today, but riders have been shopping and socializing along Main Street all week.

Volusia and Flagler business owners, meanwhile, were either ready to go or putting their final touches on things for the anniversary celebrations, hoping to continue the momentum — and moneymaking — from the bigger crowds that attended the 75th Sturgis motorcycle rally last summer in South Dakota.

Chris Ellickson was cleaning the windows of the C&D Sales storefront on Main Street Thursday whena rider wandered in to browse. Ellickson said business has been slow so far, but the shop did “up the orders” for things like T-shirts.

“I think we are hoping that it will end up the way it was in Sturgis,” Ellickson said. “Everyone is hoping for a repeat.”

Janet Kersey, the executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce, said the event that runs through March 13 is expected to draw more than a half-million visitors because of the precedent set by Sturgis. In Volusia County, Bike Week has a base economic impact of almost $75 million, according to Mid-Florida Marketing & Research.

In north Volusia County, Dean Pepe said Destination Daytona, which includes Bruce Rossmeyer’s Harley Davidson dealership, stocked up on everything Harley Davidson they could get their hands on, including more motorcycles than they’ve had in recent years, and they also doubled the staff size from about 90 to nearly 180 for Bike Week. Pepe is the Rossmeyer family’s general counsel and husband to Shelly Rossmeyer-Pepe, who is the business’s licensed dealer and general manager.

“We are pretty much all hands on deck,” Dean Pepe said.

At Flagler Beach’s High Tides at Snack Jacks, manager Miranda Clark said they will be offering a 75th anniversary shirt to customers.

Lucky Rooster Pub and Eatery on Main Street quadrupled their stock for Bike Week this year to accommodate the bigger crowd’s appetite from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. every day. Jill Abercrombie, a morning staffer, said they increased staff by at least 10 people this year.

Pam DiMartino was hanging T-shirts stamped “75th anniversary” outside of the Bikers Pride souvenir store on Main Street Thursday as bikers mingled in and out. The business increased stock by 50 percent because they ran out of product mid-week at Sturgis. DiMartino said a new feature they are offering customers this year is the opportunity to buy items online, at www.bikerspride.com, in case product runs out in the store.

Mordekhay Amsalen, manager of Bikers Pride, said they are also paying 40 percent more to rent out their space this year because of the milestone anniversary.
“Thousands of dollars more for rent doesn’t mean we are going to make that,” Amsalen said. “Everybody rides that white horse, but we don’t know how white it will be.”

USA NEWS: Mysterious Nazi submarine from WWII discovered in Great Lakes

February 18th, 2016

Niagara Falls, Divers from the U.S coast guard took part this morning, in a delicate wreck recovery operation to bring to the surface a Nazi submarine discovered two weeks ago at the bottom of Lake Ontario.

The divers of the U.S. Coast guard braved the frigid water temperature to go attach cables to the wreck for the recovery operation.

The U-boat was spotted for the first time by amateur scuba divers in late January and they had contacted the authorities. Archaeologists associated with Niagara University of and master divers from the U.S Coast Guard were mobilized on site to determine what it was, and they soon realized that they were dealing with a German submarine that sank during World War II.

A wreck recovery vessel of the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society was mandated to refloat the ship and bring it back to Niagara Falls, where it must be restored before becoming a museum ship. The delicate recovery operation took nearly 30 hours to complete, but the submarine was finally brought down on the bank with relative ease.

The submarine was identified as the UX-791, a unique experimental German submarine, based on the U-1200 model, and known to have participated in the “Battle of the St. Lawrence.” It was reported missing in 1943 and was believed to have been sunk near the Canadian coast.

Professor Mark Carpenter, who leads the team of archaeologists, believes that the U-boat could have traveled up the St-Lawrence River, all the way to the Great Lakes, where it intended to disturb the American economy.

A report from the dated from February 1943 suggests, that the ship could have attacked and destroyed three cargo ships and two fishing vessels, even damaging the USS Sable (IX-81), an aircraft carrier of the U.S. navy that was used for training in the Great Lakes, before finally being sunk by anti-sub grenades launched by a Canadian frigate.

“We have known for a long time that the Nazis had sent some of their U-boats in the St-Lawrence River, but this is the first proof that they actually reached the Great Lakes,” Professor Carpenter told reporters. “This could explain the mysterious ship disappearances that took place in the region in 1943, and the reported “Battle of Niagara Falls” which had always been dismissed as a collective hallucination caused by fear.”

The restoration of the submarine could take more than two years, but once completed, the museum ship is expected to become one of the major tourist attractions of the region.

NRA BREAKING NEWS: Federal Court of Appeals to Review Important Gun Rights Decision–
The United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit announced this afternoon that it has agreed to an en banc re-hearing in Kolbe v. Hogan.

As we previously reported, the Fourth Circuit’s earlier decision in Kolbe has the potential to invalidate Maryland’s ban on common semi-automatic firearms and detachable magazines. The Kolbe decision is extremely important, as it is the first instance where a United States court of appeals required “strict scrutiny,” the most stringent form of judicial review, for a ban on so-called “assault weapons” and detachable magazines.

The outcome is the re-hearing is too close to call at this point. We will keep you apprised of further developments of this NRA-supported case as they occur.

SUNDAY ROAD STORY–

Here goes: We were all up in three corners in Cali: California for those of you who aren’t locals. T.J. was out of the hospital from broken ribs and punctured lung from a deer accident. That is deer not dear folks.

We had hit all the watering holes in town. That comes to three in all. We had been bugged by the local sheriff all week and he thought this time he had us. We had been talking while riding along in town. We pulled up to the only stop light in town.

Now, Sheriff Dollarhide had it in for us ever since we hit town. No, that ain’t no joke, the guys last name is really Dollarhide. You just can’t make that kind of stuff up.

Back to the story, we pull up to that flashing stop light together, about the time he hits the flashing reds. We peeled in three different directions. He pulled up to the intersection and looked three ways . He don’t know whether to scratch his watch or wind his — ? We all gathered back at T.J.’s dad and mom’s cabin and laughed all night.

AUSTRALIAN CLUB REPORT– Dutch club wants a foothold in Australia despite police fears.

When asked their thoughts on Satudarah, police inside the high security Europol headquarters in The Hague immediately refer to a 2014 YouTube video, writes Sydney based News corp European “correspondent” Charles Miranda

The clip shows the Dutch-based outlaw motorcycle gang preparing for a mass “ride out”, a show of force, side-by-side formation in their full colours, when one affiliate member accidentally pulls back on his throttle and is dragged along behind his bike, his hands gripping the bars, stopping only when he crashes into other patched club members.

They refer to the video not for comical value but as confirmation that such is the expansion plans for the violent OMCG they are recruiting anyone whether they can ride a bike or not and that can only mean one thing.

“Drugs, extortion and general violence are their main activities but some of them don’t even have drivers licenses, some of them don’t own motorcycles, can’t ride them and on that video, well quite embarrassing for them,” one law enforcer from the EU law enforcement’s OMCG investigative unit said.

“They have a marketing campaign to attract new members and sometimes it doesn’t go very well for them, they are not very consistent in their recruitment.”

Consistent or not, the bikie group now has 88 chapters worldwide with an estimated membership base of more than 1000 and their sights firmly set on Australia to expand their enterprises.

Like a corporation, chapters of the group are directed by a national board to boost recruitment, largely through social media, as part of a global expansion plan.

In other countries their establishment has attracted violence and crime including drugs trafficking but the man controlling chapters in the southern hemisphere says they are just a “family group” looking to Australia for friendship.

“The basic principles of our club are respect and love, I know it sounds a bit ‘60s, that we show each other love, but it is actually like that, like a family,” said one Amsterdam-based Satudarah member.

Whether its for love or criminality, News Corp Australia has been given exclusive access to not only Europol’s OMCG unit, in its high security headquarters in The Hague to look at its running battle to contain the spread of the groups and their criminal expansions, but also Satudarah, deemed one of the world’s most violent but now keen to prove to the Australian public it has nothing to fear from its plans to move to the shores.

WHAT IS SATUDARAH?

Satudarah established in 1990 in Moordrecht in Holland’s south with just seven members. Initially they were just ethnically based Moluccans from the Moluku Islands in the Indonesian archipelago. Post World War II the Molucanns helped the Dutch re-establish the Dutch East Indies as a colony in return for the Dutch helping them establish a free state.

Internationally the Dutch colony was not accepted and Netherlands abandoned the plan and its promise to the Moluccans, who were then treated by Indonesia as traitors and collaborators and forced to migrate to the Netherlands with many placed into the same camps once used by the Nazis as a Jewish concentration camp.

From that sprung Satudarah — meaning ‘One Blood’ — and later those seven members, mostly ex soldiers, began to attract Dutch Caucasian members and other disaffected locals. It had a low profile for many years but that changed in 2011 as it went on a huge expansion plan in Holland establishing 20 chapters.

It had been a peaceful member of the “Council of 8”, a union of the eight largest OMCGs in the Netherlands and run by the Hells Angels but the Angels feared their rival’s rise and kicked them out of the union.

That led to violent clashes including with police who conducted raids and arrested 50 lead members.

But it continued to be a turning point in their development as they then moved into Germany and onto Hells Angels’ traditional territory that led to further violent clashes prompting the German government to eventually ban Satudarah.

But by that stage they had formed an unholy alliance with the Bandidos and their reach with the help of affiliates moved beyond just Europe and Indonesia where today Indonesia has 600 core Satudarah members and 800 signed up support members.

SATUDARAH’S SIGHTS ON AUSTRALIA

Satudarah’s co-ordinator for Australia and the region denied it was a criminal motorbike gang.

Eighteen months ago it spread into Australia, starting up in Adelaide with two Aborigine friends, then Eastern European identities already known to authorities.

Soon chapters sprung up in Queensland, Sydney and Northern NSW.

“The reason that our club has become bigger is we had some connections around the United States and the United States had connections with Australia and one day I had some telephone calls and people said ‘I really like the philosophy of the club’ and I said ‘that’s great’,” Jacob, the national president of Satudarah South East Asia and the Pacific, told News Corp Australia.

“We have a good relation with the Comancheros, with the Rebels, a very good relation, and for us it was like a community. At the end of the day we are all bikers so we went to Australia and met these guys.

“A lot of clubs are forcing their chapters to make money, so the money making makes the culture of greediness. So the chapters have to pay the nationals (OMCG hierarchy), the world fund, we don’t work like that. We don’t have a fee a month of hundreds of dollars like Hells Angels, we don’t sell our patches out so a lot of people think we are truly a family and that is my goal especially for South East Asia, Australia. I am responsible for the region, Australia and the United States.”

Jacob denied claims by NSW and Queensland Police they were targeting new members through Facebook or weren’t being thorough in vetting members.

He also denied Satudarah had anything to do with drugs and wrote off a series of violent clashes in Holland and Germany including earlier this month as “younger boys with hormones”.

“You know we don’t need a club to bring drugs into Australia,” Jacob said. “I would be pretty stupid to walk with patches and go into a country as a motorcycle club to bring drugs. Something like that you do without people knowing, that way is pretty stupid.

“Secondly I say where is the proof, where is the one possession that we as a motorcycle club organize transports from other countries? There is nothing like that … A lot of people can make suspicion, ‘ah these guys are drug traffickers and this but 80 per cent of our brothers they work, normal jobs, many are in the military they fight for Holland in Afghanistan for example … I understand police want to work and say these big gangsters working together but there is no evidence, I was never convicted about anything to do with drugs. I love bikes.”

He said he also loved Australia and had travelled widely, proud of his Aussie experiences including camping out on the NSW-Queensland border and eating kangaroo steaks.

NEXT WEEK WILL BE A SCRAMBLE— Our Houston Salt Torpedo shipment will be picked up and delivered to the Paughco Headquarters in Carson City, Nevada. Or maybe to the headquarters and we will run it to Paughco.

We appreciate all of Kent Week’s hard work, trying to push the project forward. But it’s tougher and tougher nowadays to keep a one-man shop going.

Next week I will make a serious stab and final preparations to publish maybe my last Chance Hogan book. You can’t imagine the hard work injected into a book effort. And it’s still not finished. I’m in negotiations with another proofreader. I will need to speak with her tomorrow. I’ve reached out to the Library of Congress.

Plus, we need to complete another summary report for the boss of Building and Safety in hopes to clarify an amendment to a permit issued in 1985. We roll the dice once more.

I’m hoping to bring you a couple of techs next week. One is from El Waggs, the master builder down south, on making a fiberglass seat pan. Then we will cover seat making from Saddlemen.

I will deliver on my installation of a Motherwell Indian Luggage Rack and my custom spacers. You’ll see how the stock system was supposed to work and how we devised a different solution. Who the hell knows what will work?

Wish us luck on all fronts this coming week.
