Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, And Yamaha Join Forces On Hydrogen Bikes

Japan’s Big Four motorcycle manufacturers will conduct research and development together.

May 17, 2023, Japan’s Big Four motorcycle manufacturers announced their brave new plan to co-operate on development of hydrogen-powered motorcycle engines. Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha executives gathered together at a Tokyo press conference with the surprise announcement of formation of HySE — which stands for “Hydrogen Small Mobility and Engine Technology.” Additionally, apart from these four biggest Japanese moto manufacturers, Kawasaki Heavy Industries Limited and Toyota Motor Corporation will also join HySE as special members. Having the latter two companies on board is significant as they have independently advanced their own hydrogen-powered research in their respective fields. While HySE will focus on motorcycle engines, they plan to develop other hydrogen-powered engines for small mobility needs, as well. The unrivalled HySE organization jointly announced a plan to pursue research and development in three main areas, with responsibilities for each divided among the four OEMs as follows:
  • Research on hydrogen-powered engines (Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, and Kawasaki Motors)
  • Study on hydrogen refuelling system (Yamaha)
  • Study on fuel supply system (Kawasaki Motors)

ABATE call to action

The California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) just released their proposed changes to On-Road emissions standards and test procedures. These regulations and standards amendments are aimed at motorcycles and motorcycle engines manufactured on or after January 1, 1978 through 2025. This points to a desire to force the adoption of electric motorcycles beginning in 2026 which is seven years ahead of the EPA’s new emission standards for motor vehicles model-years 2027 to 2032. Below are highlights and commentary on these proposed changes…

The US. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed new federal emissions standards for motor vehicles model-years ’27 to ’32, intended to dramatically increase sales of electric vehicles (EVs) in the coming years. While these rules are not yet finalized and subject to approval, the agency’s target is clear: two-thirds of new passenger vehicles sold in the United States should be EVs by 2032.

California is already pursuing stricter greenhouse gas standards with a goal that 70% of new vehicles sold in the state will be zero-emissions vehicles by 2030. The Golden State is also seeking to completely ban the sale of new gasoline-powered cars by 2035. This is significant, as 17 other states have followed all or part of California’s previous clean-car rules.

It has also eliminated an exemption provided to low-volume car manufacturers (those that produce fewer than 5,000 vehicles a year).

– The proposal, as drafted, is essentially the knock-out punch to the internal combustion engine (ICE) technologies the specialty automotive aftermarket has built its industry around.

– The Biden Administration estimates this proposal will result in two out of three new vehicles sold in the United States being electric by 2032. The proposal is not technology neutral, as the EPA and White House suggest.

– Ultimately, if these regulations are implemented, it will likely lead to more government subsidies to large automakers to manufacture EVs and for consumers to purchase them.

– We have already witnessed massive government subsidies to implement the infrastructure to support EVs:

1. The Infrastructure Bill that became law in 2022 funded 500,000 EV charging stations nationally.

2. The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 financially incentivized Americans to purchase EVs.

– Government policies should support the work of small-business innovators that employ millions of Americans by letting the market and innovation drive solutions to the environmental challenges we all seek to solve.

– The unintended consequences of these regulations will be extremely far-reaching, adversely impacting rural and urban vehicle owners and reducing consumer choice

We at ABATE highly recommend our members review CARB’s proposed amendments and submit comments to them by the June 2 deadline. Without such public input, the agency may assume a general “unchallenged” acceptance of their proposal. As a reminder, it is easier to stop such changes BEFORE they go into effect. Once they take effect, it is extremely difficult to change them.

THE GROUP BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for May 18, 2023

This is turning into an interesting week. With the twitter and FBI resolutions, maybe truth and honesty will take center stage again.

I was going to call this the apathetic news, but that’s not true. The Group stands for the emergence of small but powerful groups in our society. As the population grows, we see small groups expand.

It goes along with our industry adage. Over the years folks claimed doom for motorcycling. We’ve had ups and downs, but the population continues to grow and more motorcyclists are born. But look at the industry as a whole. It’s made up of way more groups. There’s the bagger crowd, the touring guys, the chopper builders, the antique industry, the dirt racers, the drag racers and the Bonneville crew.

So, our society has also expanded. Some have been good and some groups very bad. We need to learn how to deal with both. Can’t be complacent or apathetic now.

THE TWITTER REPORT-– There has been another sighting of the regular complaint that climate scientists are being subject to hury comments on Twitter.

The Guardian reports a “huge” rise in abuse since Elon Musk took over the platform last year. “It’s mostly just people saying you are talking rubbish,” admits Professor Richard Betts from the Met Office, although the Guardian headlines its story with a “vicious abuse” charge. This would appear to be the same Guardian that apologized in 2019 for saying David Cameron felt only “privileged pain” upon the death of his handicapped young son.

The same newspaper that recently published George Monbiot’s belief that “taking out” pipelines, refineries, abattoirs, coal plants and SUVs is “morally justified“, and the same publication that has taken to printing racist cartoons aimed at its political opponents that would not have looked out of place in a Third Reich newspaper.

The Guardian reports that some of the U.K.’s top scientists are struggling to deal with this rise in abuse from “climate deniers”. They are fighting to make themselves heard over what is described as a “barrage of hostile comments”. Twitter employees who ensured ‘trusted’ content was prioritised have been sacked, while Right-wing culture warriors such as Jordan Peterson have been reinstated. The newspaper cites a recent survey from Global Witness which suggested prominent scientists were the most likely to face abuse.

One of those prominent scientists is UCL Geography Professor Mark Maslin, who received an ‘abusive’ tweet that referred to “a fairy tale about the big bad weather”. Another correspondent replied: “Great stories about BS science Mark. But I am tired of sci-fi.” Dr. Helen Muri, a Norwegian researcher, was sent a graph of Greenland ice core temperatures over the last 10,000 years suggesting current temperatures were at an all-time low. The writer asked in polite terms, “Any luck finding the climate crisis yet?”

Of course, there is abuse across social media, some of it not very pleasant. Nobody condones threats of violence, or indeed support for violent acts, and it should be removed from public discourse. But anyone who takes an inquiring view on the current mainstream narrative on issues such as climate change and Covid gets enormous amounts of abuse on a daily basis. Slightly less concern seems to be in evidence for all the hurty feelings this may be causing us (not that it is something that really fusses us).

What is happening of course is that the horrors of the collectivist Net Zero project are becoming increasingly apparent, as a widespread attack on almost all human activity is launched under the suggestion that the climate is breaking down. Until recently the ‘settled’ science promoting this view had a safe, largely uncontested space to prosper. But skepticism about the unproven hypothesis that humans operate the climate thermostat by burning fossil fuels is growing, with two recent polls showing that over 40% of people surveyed worldwide believe climate change is mainly due to natural causes. Far from coughing up the huge sums required to hit Net Zero, 4 in 10 Americans are not even prepared to pay more than two dimes a week to combat climate change…

The loss of Twitter as a ‘safe’ space for climate alarmists has been a bitter blow. It is not seemingly enough to exert considerable control over most other public platforms including social and mainstream media. Global Witness is of the view that if climate scientists are unable to do their work because of “stress and fear caused by harassment”, the critical evidence that undergirds climate action and solutions is put at risk. For his part, Maslin seems particularly disappointed, since he discloses that he held regular meetings with the platform’s Head of Sustainability to ensure ‘trusted’ information was pushed to the top. But the sustainability chief was sacked and Twitter “became the Wild West”, he laments.

It is reasonable for social media users to tell delicate activists like Maslin that there is really nothing to worry about from our climate. It’s just free speech, and it applies – in fact it is vital – in science and geography, as elsewhere. But it’s not just about science anymore. It is becoming apparent that Net Zero is being used as an attack on almost all human activity. Everything humans do to survive, from keeping warm to growing food, is being cast as an attack on Mother Earth.

MRF REPORT—Traveling back from DC.

I am traveling back from our National Bikers Inside the Beltway lobbying event in Washington D.C.

We had constituents, from both MC’s and ABATEs from right at 40 states, hit all 535 offices over the 3 days.

Pretty good response on RPM act being re-introduced, expect over 100 co-sponsors fairly quickly.

Excellent response on our 3rd round of right to repair, farmers are hand in hand with us fighting John Deere, while we battle Harley and Polaris, interesting that they don’t want to modify our bikes or service anything a few years old, so it’s about forcing people to buy new bikes that will never run right.

The Preservation of Choice bill (ICE) has massive Republican support, zero democratic support.

MOTHERS AGAINST DRUNK DRIVING–and South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks, Team Up for Boating BUI and ATV DUI Prevention Campaign to Kick Off Summer Recreation Season

SOUTH DAKOTA — Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) South Dakota volunteers and staff are teaming up with the South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks to promote safe boating and ATV seasons and to educate about the dangers of operating a boat, watercraft, and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) while impaired by alcohol or other drugs.

“Recreational Vehicle impaired crashes affect families the same way as road vehicle impaired crashes do,” said MADD South Dakota Regional Executive Director Veronica Hawman. “Unfortunately, there is not always the same mindset for Recreational Vehicle drivers in terms of choosing to operate them sober.”

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, alcohol is a leading known contributing factor in fatal boating incidents. Where the primary cause was known, alcohol was listed as the leading contributing factor in 18% of deaths in 2020.

Additionally, a boater is likely to become impaired more quickly than an automobile driver, and even moderate drinking can cause significant impairment on a boat. The environmental stressors of the marine environment – motion, vibration, engine noise, sun, wind, and spray – accelerate the impairing effect of alcohol. These stressors cause fatigue, making a boater’s coordination, judgment, and reaction time decline even faster when using alcohol.

Operating a boat with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .08 or higher is against federal law and most state laws.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety created a Fatality Facts 2020: Motorcycles and ATVs report. Where the primary cause of ATV crash was known there were 111 estimated ATV deaths with BACs greater or equal to 0.08, and 73 estimated ATV deaths with BACs greater or equal to 0.15.

“It’s important to remember that operating any type of vehicle under the influence on the water or on land can cause traumatic injuries and tragic loss of life,” said MADD South Dakota Regional Executive Director Veronica Hawman. “If your plans include alcohol, consider doing so onshore AFTER you are finished boating for the day and have a non-drinking driver to get you to your next destination on land.”

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and the South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks remind all recreation explorers to take the following safety precautions this summer:

Boats

  • Take a boating safety course
  • Boat responsibly on the water
  • Wear a life jacket
  • Attach the engine cut-off switch
  • Get a free vessel safety check
  • Never drink or use drugs and operate a boat

ATVs

  • Take an ATV safety course
  • Always wear appropriate gear (helmets, goggles, clothing)
  • Never ride on paved roads except to cross safely
  • Ride an ATV that’s right for your age
  • Never carry a passenger on a single-rider ATV

  • Never drink or use drugs and operate an ATV or UTV

I wonder how many other nations have woken up to the need of such an organization. Of course, developing nations need it more than the G8 nations, but they imagine the priority is basic survival — food, medication, literacy.

The movie illustrates how engaging the youth can easily change the destiny of a nation or at least a community / town / neighborhood. Education is ridiculously expensive even in developing nations and the governments let the public school infrastructure rot for no valid reason.

While the movie proves faith can move mountains and it certainly moved that mountain of a man to new heights — it doesn’t really build much trust in organized religions and private sector educational institutions.

Ferrari will continue to build cars with internal combustion engines into the late 2030s, despite efforts by governments around the world to phase out the technology.

The boss of the Italian manufacturer said it would be “arrogant” to dictate to customers what they can buy.

For Ferrari, as for many other premium brands, the move towards electric cars presents a steep marketing challenge.

But the company is due to introduce its first electric supercar in 2025.

In a BBC interview, Ferrari boss Benedetto Vigna pointed to this decision as a sign that technology was evolving, and denied doing so would undermine the company’s environmental credentials.

“I don’t want to be arrogant and impose a choice on our clients,” he said.

“It is the client who must choose if they want an ICE (internal combustion engine), a hybrid or an electric car.”

SECRET PAINT FINISH TIP OF THE WEEK—from Irish Rich of Shamrock Fabrication and Kirk Taylor designs.

Rich had a frame powder-coated gloss black. As soon as he started to work on it, he noticed minute scratches. He reached out to Kirk, an expert with paint. Kirk recommended building the bike then polishing any scratches with McGuire’s #7 detailing compound. He also suggested a final coat of Mother’s paste wax or McGuire’s California Gold paste wax.

California Advances Bill to Legalize Cruising; Encourage support from lawmakers on this proposal:

California has introduced SAN-supported legislation (AB 436) to allow automobile cruising activities to return statewide. Currently, local authorities are authorized to pass ordinances that regulate or prohibit cruising. This effort follows a resolution approved by the legislature last year celebrating the history and culture associated with automobile cruising, as well as encouraging local officials and law enforcement to work with local car clubs to conduct safe cruising events. Having passed the Assembly, the bill now awaits consideration in the Senate Committee on Transportation.

New EPA emissions proposal puts automotive supply chains and small businesses at risk

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released a proposal last month for strict new federal multipollutant emissions standards for light- and medium-duty vehicles. The proposal would decisively tilt the U.S. car and truck market toward electric vehicles over the next decade. The new standards would initiate for the 2027 model year and gradually increase through the 2032 model year.

If the EPA draft standards are implemented by 2032 as proposed, the agency anticipates that two-thirds of all new-car sales in the U.S. would be electric vehicles . This large-scale shift would significantly disrupt automotive industry supply chains and potentially eliminate large numbers of jobs in vehicle manufacturing, parts production, and repair shops. Ford alone estimates a 30% labor reduction in its transition to electric vehicles.

Likewise, much of the specialty automotive aftermarket — the parts and modifications you make to your vehicle once it leaves the car lot — is built around the internal combustion engine. The $51 billion aftermarket industry supports more than 1 million jobs in U.S. automotive manufacturing. The specialty automotive aftermarket has also led the way in alternative fuel innovations such as hydrogen, replacing older engine technologies with newer, cleaner versions and even conversions of older internal combustion engine-based cars to new electric, hydrogen, and other alternative fuels. Yet none of that is considered part of the broader plan to reduce greenhouse gases and criteria pollutants from automobiles.

Small businesses would be the most vulnerable to the disruptions caused by a seismic shift to battery-electric vehicles. According to the most recent Census Bureau tally of the almost 1,200 auto engine and transmission parts suppliers in the U.S., more than 60% had 20 or fewer employees. These companies often make specialized components, operate on tight margins, and rely on long-term contracts. They employ American workers with technical skills and create the often politically celebrated blue-collar jobs.

Large automakers are losing billions a year in their electric-vehicle programs, despite the massive financial infusion of taxpayer dollars they are receiving from the government and subsidies to purchase EVs. If they are struggling, how are small businesses expected to survive?

Clean air and the reduction of greenhouse gases are goals everyone can acknowledge. That said, when governments arbitrarily pick technology winners and losers, the marketplace is deprived of choices, and the public suffers. Instead of forcing this transition, the EPA should put in place incentives to support a diversified zero-emissions approach that takes advantage of breakthrough technologies across the spectrum.

Hydrogen, for example, is already being used as a power source in buildings, cars, trucks, forklifts, ships, and trains. Hydrogen-powered cars have greater range and faster refueling times compared to electric vehicles and reduce the need for limited-supply materials used in EV battery packs. And clean hydrogen generation is already feasible: The National Renewable Energy Laboratory website identifies five different methods to produce hydrogen economically from sustainable resources.

Other renewable fuels, including synthetic eFuels that allow legacy vehicles to operate in a carbon-neutral manner, should also be part of the equation. Where are the government-backed financial incentives for these alternate technologies?

The market is rightly skeptical of new EV technology, and right now, it simply does not have the infrastructure ready to support EVs. Yet by using multipollutant emissions regulations to force-feed EVs to the market, the government is effectively putting all its eggs into one technology basket.

The Biden administration should realize that the market’s hesitation to adopt EV technology in the first place proves that putting the government’s thumb on the scale is not an effective means of persuasion. But instead of adjusting course to let the market forge the transition, the administration is effectively doubling down on a flailing policy.

Meanwhile, a dozen states have recently introduced or passed legislation or resolutions affirming support for the internal combustion engine and for the government to remain technology-neutral in the debate to reduce automotive emissions. In Virginia, for example, it was only the state’s slim Democratic Senate majority that stymied Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s campaign platform issue to repeal Virginia’s internal combustion engine ban.

The EPA’s emissions proposal is misguided and counterproductive. Instead of trying to force a clean energy transition, the Biden administration should support the work of innovators and protect the small-business owners and those they employ by letting the market and innovation drive solutions to the environmental challenges we all seek to solve.

Indian Motorcycle today revealed the final custom Sport Chief build within its ‘Forged’ video series.

Featuring long-time friends renowned freestyle motocross riders Carey Hart and Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg, the final custom bike takes the stock performance of the Indian Sport Chief to an entirely new level.

When speaking to Twitch about his build plans, Hart said, “It’s already a great base. The components on the production Sport Chief are great, but for what you’re going to be doing, I’m going to really focus on the chassis, handling, and braking. You’re going to ride the wheels off this thing, so it has to perform. It’s not just a trophy bike.”

Hart started off by stripping the bike down to its motor and frame. He reengineered the brakes with race-spec Beringer components and tapped Trac Dynamics to develop a billet aluminum swingarm for increased rigidity and to minimize flex. He also called upon Barnstorm Cycles to add knee cuts to help slim the tank. The bike also features Hart & ODI bars and grips, super sticky Dunlop tires, machine wheels, a chain conversion and a Bassani 2-into-1 exhaust. Hart also raised the front end an inch and added a Beringer clutch perch to deliver a more moto-like feel that Twitch is accustomed to. To finish the bike off, Hart pulled in Schultz Design to deliver a paint scheme that was flashy, but classic, and truly represented Twitch’s personality.

AMA Announces New Government Relations Director Nick Haris

Restructures and evolves its Government Relations Department to better serve members across the nation

PICKERINGTON, Ohio — The American Motorcyclist Association has appointed Nick Haris as Government Relations Director, while also restructuring and evolving its Government Relations Department to better serve members and support its mission: to promote the motorcycle lifestyle and protect the future of motorcycling.

“The AMA Government Relations Department stands on the front lines in the defense of motorcyclists’ rights, and we are committed to continuing our investment in a team that ensures the effectiveness of these efforts,” said AMA Present and CEO Rob Dingman. “Nick has a long record of success working in our Government Relations Department and will bring skilled leadership to his new role as the Government Relations Director.”

Nick Haris, previously the Western States Representative in the Government Relations Department, has held an advocacy role with the AMA since 2001. Haris also serves on the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme Commission for Mobility, is a member of the California Motorcycle Safety Program advisory committee and sits on the California Outdoor Recreation Foundation board of directors.

As Haris steps into his new role as Director, the Government Relations Department will also have a new structure that refocuses the team’s efforts to better represent motorcyclists at all levels of government: federal, regional, state and local.

As part of this evolution, the team will bring on board an experienced Washington Representative to monitor and influence policies and programs at the federal level. To increase representation at the regional and state level, the AMA is adding Central States and Eastern States Representatives to the team, while Haris will concurrently work as the Western States Representative along with his director duties. At the local level, the AMA will hire a Grassroots Specialist to coordinate and support government relations activities of local members, clubs and affiliates across the country.

Haris expressed his enthusiasm for leading the newly restructured department.

“I’m encouraged that we are adjusting the way we do government relations,” Haris said, “structuring it to better meet the needs of our members and engage with elected officials. Regionalization of the department allows our team to better establish and cultivate relationships with legislators and State Motorcyclist Rights Organizations. This restructure allows our team to be more responsive and agile when it comes to taking action on behalf of our members in a timely manner.”

The AMA is the largest and most influential motorcycling organization in the nation, with more than 214,000 members who ride for fun, sport, travel work or adventure. Its members are part of a diverse and passionate community of riders who love the freedom and thrill of riding and racing. The AMA Government Relations Department makes sure that motorcyclists can enjoy riding without unnecessary hassles or restrictions from the government, while advocating for laws and funding that expand riding opportunities.

NEXT—I feel like I’m scrambling constantly from project to project, which in most cases I like. Progress is a good thing. Unfortunately, the stress our government puts on me and everyone can’t be avoided.

If you follow any of the reports I publish, you must wonder like I do—What the fuck? They all beg for the truth. I don’t understand how they can roll from day to day without making an effort to find the truth through open debate and laying all the data on the table. WTF?

Me and a handful of bikers are trying to force that to happen. Wish us luck.

Meanwhile, I am looking for a cool muffler for my Knucklehead project. Charlie gave me one, but it’s attached to a pipe. Something tells me the rider backed into something and jammed the pipe inside the muffler. It won’t come out. I’m going to try heat next.

I finally made a stab at building my own oil bag with a 19th century copper foot warmer. I machined brass fittings and soldered them like a plumber would. It worked like a champ. Cleaning all the debris out of the tank will be the next challenge.

This shift linkage was a trick. I’m still not sure about it, but it’s a start.

I’m working on an article about dealing with rust and running into an issues. I tried a rust removal product, but it did and didn’t work. I need to clean the rust out of the old unused, but pristine Paughco oil bag. I’m trying sanding it with a jar full of nuts. I didn’t like the notion of filling it with sand or gravel.

The article is coming up. I’ll keep you posted.

I’m a stickler for oil filters on my bikes. I’m cheap and want shit to last. I’m putting an old traditional oil filter on the ’46 Dicey Knuck. Cutting that braided oil line will be fun.

The ’58 Chevy made it home. It looks terrific, but mechanically it’s rough around the edges. Still working on that.

I stumbled into the deep and dark, Deadwood Historic Preservation archives and discovered more finds from the original Deadwood Chinatown.

Our Bandit Spirit bells are on their way.

I’m working with Paul Cox on this Cycle Tech primary drive.

I gave my son this supposedly solid silver, miniature springer, made by a jeweler in Greece. Don’t ask me how I ended up in Greece. He had it dipped and now we don’t know.

Foothill Ranch, Calif. (May 14, 2023) – At just over 4000 ft. above sea level and backdropped by snow-capped mountains and aspen trees, Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah hosted the final round of the Monster Energy® Supercross Championship. In the 450SX Class, Monster Energy® Kawasaki rider Adam Cianciarulo rivaled for podium contention throughout the race before securing a fourth-place finish. In the 250SX Class, Monster Energy®/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider Jo Shimoda earned an impressive fourth-place result while his teammates Carson Mumford and Chris Blose followed in 10th and 12th, respectively.

Monster Energy® Kawasaki rider Adam Cianciarulo arrived at the Monster Energy® Supercross Finale with podium momentum at his back. The No.9 KX™450SR rider matched the impressive pace he has displayed in recent weeks as he attacked the track from the time his tires touched the dirt. Through the opening sessions, Cianciarulo quickly found his rhythm and asserted himself near the top of the leaderboard. While challenging for the top spots in qualification and adjusting to the hard-packed soil conditions, Cianciarulo made minimal alterations to his bike setup and kept his focus on logging consistent laps. When the 450SX Class qualifying sessions ended, Cianciarulo had recorded the fifth-fastest lap of the morning (47.805).

Prior to the start of 450SX Heat 2, a cluster of looming dark clouds turned into outright rain showers quickly producing a slippery racing surface. When the gate dropped, Cianciarulo rocketed toward the first turn before braking early and diving to the inside of his competition. The savvy move positioned Cianciarulo in second place on the opening lap, though he quickly found himself battling for the position. After briefly withstanding pressure from the championship points leader, Cianciarulo slipped back to third on Lap 2. With two laps remaining, Cianciarulo capitalized on a mistake from a rider ahead to regain control of second position and he held the spot through to the checkered flag.

As the 450SX Class prepared for the Main Event, the rain subsided and the track conditions rapidly improved. Cianciarulo again launched himself out to an excellent start and entered the first turn inside the top five. With another display of sharp tact early in the race, Cianciarulo advanced into second place with a tight inside line through the first corner. The Florida native went on to prove his excellence in the deep ruts and wet dirt as he commanded second place for the first half of the race. On Lap 10, Cianciarulo was overtaken at the end of a rutted rhythm lane and was soon under attack from the rider in fourth. Despite waging a several-lap battle for the final podium spot, Cianciarulo ultimately settled into fourth position and held his place through to the finish.

“All in all, this weekend was another step in the right direction for me and the whole Monster Energy® Kawasaki team. I’ve been focused on putting the building blocks in place throughout this season and it’s great to have these strong results in the final rounds. Of course, it would have been awesome to close out with back-to-back podiums, but we were in the battle and still had a solid night. Now, we’ll shift focus to Pro Motocross and look to keep the fight going.” – Adam Cianciarulo

The Monster Energy®/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki trio of Shimoda, Mumford and Blose were early standouts in the 250SX Class qualifying sessions as they paced at the front of the field. With all three riders appearing on the leaderboard at various times throughout the morning, it was clear that the KX™250 mounted team was prepared for a strong finish to the season. When the regionally divided qualifying sessions concluded, Shimoda was fourth fastest (47.123) of the 250SX Eastern Regional Class with Blose in seventh (48.234) and Mumford matched with seventh in the 250SX Western Regional Class (48.337).

In the 250SX East Heat, a quick jump out of the gate placed Shimoda in fourth exiting Turn 1 while Blose trailed behind in sixth. The Japanese-born rider charged after the group ahead and took control of third place on Lap 2. Meanwhile, Blose kept pressure on the riders ahead until he was the benefactor of a mistake from his competition on Lap 4 and inherited fifth position. With open track and ideal conditions, Shimoda and Blose maintained a steady pace through to the checkered flag to secure third place and fifth place, respectively.

The 250SX West Heat again hosted Team Green near the front when Mumford maneuvered his way into third place through the first rhythm lane. The No.52 KX™250 rider held true to form with attention-grabbing speed through the opening laps of the heat. By the end of Lap 1, Mumford had the 250SX West champion hot on his tail. Mumford maintained his composure and kept his pace high to defend the position for the bulk of the race. In a crowd-thrilling display of tenacity, Mumford was overtaken on Lap 6 before he quickly dove to the inside and regained the position for a moment. While the battle ensued, Mumford was ultimately relegated to a fourth-place finish.

The last 250SX Class Main Event of the season brought the crowd to their feet as the best of the best were pitted against each other for a final East/West Showdown. Shimoda started the race in fourth place with Blose right behind him in sixth while Mumford looked to move forward from a 12th place start. The mud from earlier rain showers complicated line selection, rider’s vision, and the availability of traction as the Monster Energy®/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team fought to overcome the elements and better their positions. While Mumford worked his way up the running order, Shimoda held strong in fourth and Blose began to slip backward. Although the track continued to break down, Shimoda and Mumford managed to improve their speed as the race progressed; both riders logged several of their fastest laps in the latter half of the race. Mumford was able to make several passes in the closing stages, but Shimoda’s pace would not be enough to close the distance to the podium position ahead. When the checkered flag came out, Shimoda earned fourth, Mumford made his way to 10th and Blose brought home a respectable 12th.

It’s tough when you don’t get a start at the very front in the East/West Showdown races because it’s so competitive in the class. I was flying down the backside of the mountain. The high desert, beautiful in the fall, laid out before me as the mountain twistiness turned to bleak open sand.

I rode past a female hitch hiker, and she looked to have been there awhile. Dried perspiration stains on her Black Sabbath t-shirt and her Daisy Duke shorts, included perspiring all the way down to her logger boots. She rocked out with her earbuds. Later she told me Black Sabbath kept her distracted.

I pulled-up my old Shovelhead suspicious of the slippery sand. Would she accept a ride from an old biker? I slid my bike to a stop. I was listening to War Pigs by Black Sabbath in my earbuds just under my Bikernet bandanna. She came running up and introductions took place. I told her my friends called me Gearhead. She told me her name was Scarlett.

There is a preposterous rumor going around that Caite Upton, the girl who became inadvertently famous in a beauty contest long ago when she attempted to explain, on national TV, why American school children, in a test, could not find the USA on a globe.

She gave a convoluted, disconnected answer, no doubt due to nerves and the stress of the moment, which response became immediately the Number One Go-To item on the internet:—— caitlin upton you tube – – – as a result the rumor is now going around that she is writing all of Kamala Harris’s speeches.
 
 

This extremely mean rumor….. that she is now writing all of Kamala Harris’s speeches…..is simply not true. And the reason it’s not true is because it’s not justified. And it’s not possible.

It’s just not in the cards in any deck of cards on earth. Because Caitlin Upton’s response in this clip, compared to Kamala Harris’s routinely horrific gibberish responses to anything – Caitlin Upton’s critique of the American, government-operated school system is a monument to clarity, precision and insight compared to anything Kamala Harris might say at any time under any circumstances, drunk or sober, asleep or awake.

Caitlin Upton, in this clip, makes more sense regarding the state of geographical education in our schools than anything Kamala Harris has ever tried to make sense of in all her life, on any topic, under any circumstances.

If Caite Upton and Kamala Harris were to have, let us say, a debate, on, let us say, various ways to prepare eggs for breakfast, Caite Upton could launch into a rambling disjointed allegory comparing Wheat Thins to the migratory habits of Canada Geese….. and compared to what would be the goonfest litany overflow of imbecilic nonsense that Kamala Harris would be saying in response….

Caite Upton’s lecture would be an exercise in laser-like relevance, microscopic focus and extraordinary depth of reasoned articulate genius and exactitude with straight-to-topic pinpoint accuracy compared to Kamala Harris’s juggernaut of drawled-out and sing-song sleep-inducing repetition of her three-word vocabulary inventory, drawled and redrawled, with long pauses to give the listener time to absorb what she must be convinced is the depth and clarity and philosophical implications of her findings.

Caitlin’s words would be straight-line, dead-on-target revelations of truth and discovery compared to the Mobius Strip of desolate word-trails leading to nowhere coming from Harris’ relentlessly cackling jaws.

People would come-away from Caitlin’s dissertations filled with grandeur at the wonders of communication that are possible between humans while the words of Harris would have listeners walking into walls, into oncoming trucks and off of cliffs and plummeting in bewildered confusion to their deaths, grateful at never having to hear Kamala Harris ever again.

Even Greta Thunberg at her most volcanic, twisted-faced, outburst-festooned, high velocity, full-capacity-level of infuriated, accusatory, spittle-spraying wrath at people refusing to obey her…..she is a demure, well-thought-out, properly behaved and wondrous young lady of calm and good sense compared to Kamala Harris even trying to recite hickory dickory dock.

So, no: Caite Upton is not writing Kama Harris’s speeches. This suspicion and unfounded rumor drags Miss Upton down into a morass of undeserved, meaningless inconsequence that she is far far above.

Kamala Harris could not order a Big Mac and a Coke at MacDonalds without the entire staff of employees having to stop what they were doing and form a phalanx in front of Harris to check with each other if anyone could figure out what the hell Harris wanted to fucking eat.
 

 

I am sure Caitlin Upton can go to the MacDonalds counter, order her food, and go to a table, food in hand, with no one on the staff having ever become desolately bewildered if not depressed and suicidal in the process. So, let’s stop this rumor now. I’m not the kind of person who goes around saying this is hurtful, or that is hurtful: but THIS is clearly hurtful.

Miss Upton doesn’t deserve this.

Black Magic Woman

“What are you listening to?” I asked. She told me Fairies Wear Boots by Black Sabbath. I jarred her attention as she stared at the big Bowie knife on my left hip.

“Do you need a ride?” I asked.

“Of course, Can you take me to the Bella Rosa Bar at the edge of town,” she said still staring at my knife. It was a long monster reaching to my knee.

I asked her if it’s hard to get a ride out here?

“Straights don’t pick up hitch hikers in these parts,” she muttered. “Especially with tattoos all over.” She had some ink work on her neck and on the lower left side of her jawline. Perplexing, the dichotomy of ink against nature on a lone desert highway.
“I always stop for a lady in distress,” I said. “It’s the code of the West, so Bandit says.” She hopped on the back, and we peeled out spitting sand. I love riding my old Gypsy Belle Shovelhead.

We road for a ways, while she leaned in and hung on like she had done this a time or two. We pulled up to the bar just before reaching Lancaster. I planned to drop the lady off and peel out.

“You oughta come in and wash the dust out of your mouth,” she whispered.

Her eyes sparkled innocence, her tats spelled otherwise. “Okay,” I said.

Scarlett hopped off, and I kicked out my side-stand. I threw my bike chain around the wooden rail, once meant for horses. The sun dried, clapboard, Bella Rosa Bar held an old west feel. I noticed a small carved wooden sign above the tattered entrance, “The last place to drink for miles.”

“Here’s double shot of Jim Beam straight up,” Scarlett said.

I suddenly felt like I was in a Twilight Zone story.

Scarlett reeked of that Black Magic Woman vibe. Maybe Carlos Santana wrote the song after a lady just like this little broad. I sat there sipping the double shot of Beam.

“I am going to freshen up,” Scarlett said. “Don’t go anywhere.”

I sipped and scanned the rustic bar.

What happened next blurred my brain. Scarlet came out wearing a silver necklace with a Harley upswept wings pendant. It sparkled with her child-like features. She told me her biker old man gave them to her. Suddenly, I felt out of place or in a trick-bag. I reached down to make sure that Bowie knife was still in the leather sheath. You can’t miss that small machete.

I had lost my custom Arkansas Toothpick to the infamous Bandit in a poker game in Deadwood.

“Don’t worry Doll,” she assured me. “We broke up a long time ago.” She ran her hand down the long leather sheath and muttered, ?“I like knives.”

Suddenly she yanked a dagger out of the middle of her back and threw the flashy dart across the darkened room. It hit the dartboard bullseye dead center at the end of the bar.

That little gal looked hot, smelled hot, dressed sizzling and quivered like a snake. She had on a black bikini top bordered with crystal sequins and a black pair of French bikini bottoms.

“Doesn’t the owner get pissed at your antics?” I asked.

“I am the owner,” She said and licked my left earlobe. “I can run this joint anyway I want.”

I finished my third double and a fourth was on the way. Like I said, things got fuzzy. We talked about her tattoos. During the fifth double in that hot-as-hell bar with only a creaking ceiling fan moving the dense air I nodded out. Awe hell, I passed out.

I woke up a couple of hours later, near midnight, on the couch in her office. Her phone number was tattooed on my forearm. WTF?

I sat bolt upright, where’s my Harley? Scarlett came into her office. “Your bike is secure in my garage behind the bar,” she said smiling. “Here are your keys.”

“Why would you care about an old biker?” I asked.

“I understand your kind and what a man like you is capable of. This is biker country. A lot of outlaws roam these desert communities.”

Texas Red, the bartender, shoved open the office door, “Shit might hit the fan.”

“Can you help?” Scarlett asked, poking her pretty head out the door. Three outlaws saddled up to the bar.

“With a line of southern crude,” I said, stood and stretched. Still in a fog, in a strange bar in the middle of nowhere I wondered. WTF?

She told Texas Red to grab her personal stash of meth and lay out a line. Red looked solid enough. What the hell did I know?

What I didn’t tell her is that whiskey and meth turn me into a rattlesnake of meanness. I did the line and another shot of Jim Beam.

I pointed at another office door. “Is that the way to the garage.”

I jammed outside and Scarlett followed with the keys. She opened the side door, and inside I stopped and looked at my old Shovelhead. It could be my ticket to escape whatever madness lay ahead. I reached for my .38 snub-nose and grabbed a handful of shells from my leather saddlebag stuffing them into my vest pocket. “Where do we go from here?”

Scarlett led me back into her office. Red returned to the bar. I told Scarlett to stay behind me. Her 5-foot 10-inch, 240 pounds of Mexican bouncer stood at the saloon entrance, but I didn’t know what side he was on.

“Don’t come out unless we need that throwing hand of yours,” I said to Scarlett. I pushed my way into the bar.

Red had a carriage, sawed-off shotgun under the bar. Both of his held it, he cocked both hammers. He knew it would be easy to swing out and shoot from the hip.

Three club members bellied up to the bar. They didn’t seem to be messing with anyone. I scanned the bar looking for trouble until I found it, in the form of young man stuffed into the darkest corner. He wore all black and carried a satchel. A shooter who followed the club guys into the bar. Texas Red was wise to recognize trouble.

I pulled out my long Bowie knife and I asked the three rowdy club guys if there was something we could do for them. They spun to face me and my knife.

“What business is it of yours Pops?” A tattooed club guy said and puffed out his chest.

I glanced to the corner as all hell broke loose. The shooter stood abruptly, dropped his bag and cocked his semi-auto AR-15. The fire in the small bar rocked the windows as the massive mirror behind assorted liquor bottles shattered. Patrons dove for the deck.

Texas Red’s shotgun came out from under the bar and blew a hole in the roof as the rapid fire, assault weapon kicked the rifle from his grasp and he dove for the padded deck.

Fire blew out windows and a short Hispanic club member reached for his pistol inside his vest. The bouncer at the door stepped outside quickly and pulled his 9mm from a secure position behind the porch.

I turned toward the shooter and reached for my revolver, when I heard a swish in the air like something surreal, the hiss of a snake. Scarlet’s dagger found it’s mark in the shooters shoulder, before he could react, I was at his throat with my bowie knife.

“What happened to your girlfriend, pal?” I asked.

“She left me for a member,” the shooter said and cringed as Scarlett retrieved her knife from his torn flesh.

I hollered to the members. “You guys better peel out, before the man arrives.” They hit the door, jumped on their bikes and cut a dusty trail into the dark desert.

“Thanks,” Scarlett said. Everything she had was poured into that bar.

I took all the arms and ammo from the shooter. “You’ve got three choices kid,” I said while Scarlett patched his arm and he whimpered. “I turn you over to the cops and you roll the dice with the system. I give you to the club and you have the worst night of your life and end up in a shallow desert grave with tarantulas, or you cut a dusty trail out of this state and start over.”

“But my shit,” the kid squealed as Scarlett yanked at the final coarse stitch in his shoulder, made with used dental floss. It’s all she had.

I cut the line free, yanked him to his feet and led him to the rickety front porch, spun and kicked him in the ass. He tumbled off the porch and landed in the sandy dust. “If you turn around, your dead.”

He screamed in pain scramble to his feet and into his rusty Ford Ranger pickup peeling out of the parking lot.

Nearly 2:00 in the morning, the “open” neon flickering in the dusty window went out.

”You stick around tonight,” Scarlett said.
“I will make it worth your time.”

“Won’t Texas Red be jealous?” I searched for answers.

“He’s my bartender and on my payroll, that’s all,” she said. She grabbed my hand opposite of my knife hand and pulled me into her office, locked the door and yelled to Texas Red, “Close up for me will ya?”

David Allen Coe blasted from the jukebox. I think the song was Divers do it deeper. Scarlett pushed me down on the couch. “You won’t need your knife anymore tonight.”

I raised an eyebrow and slit the seam of her delicate top. She had a beautiful body and beautiful tattoos all over it.

“Shuck those jeans and let’s get down to business,” she said.

She told me later that she liked the way older men think. They don’t deal with any crap anyone shovels at them. They just handle the situation at hand, and they don’t back down.

It’s the code of the West,” I said. Look it up under the biker’s code. I gave her a deep long tongue searching French kiss. That’s my story of Scarlett and that night in the desert. I’ll never forget it.

An American Has Created A Beer-Powered Motorcycle,
Claims It Could Reach Speeds Of Up To 240 Km Per Hour

Ky Michaelson, is an American infamous for unusual inventions. His past accomplishments include a rocket-powered toilet and a jet-powered coffee pot. Now his latest invention is: a beer-powered motorcycle.

Speaking to Fox9, Ky explains that the unique motorcycle has a 14-gallon keg with a heating coil instead of a gas-powered engine. This coil heats the beer up to 300 degrees, which then becomes super-heated steam in the nozzles, making the bike move forward. Ky’s garage in Bloomington is where he built this unique motorcycle that runs on beer (or is it steam?).

Ky told the publication that he aims to do what others have never done. He blamed the rising prices of gasoline as a reason for not finding it useful for powering a vehicle.

Ky, is nicknamed ‘Rocketman’ for being the first civilian to launch a rocket into space.

The motorcycle could reach speeds up to 150 miles per hour (240 km per hour) as per Ky. He hopes to take the bike to a drag strip soon to test its capabilities. The unusual inventor also noted that any liquid, including Red Bull and Caribou Coffee, could fuel his bike.

So far, Ky’s vehicle has made it to a few local car shows, where it won the first position. Ky had also shared a video on his YouTube channel 9 months ago, featuring his son presenting detailed information about the motorcycle.

Ky Michaelson, a space and movie stunt enthusiast, has created many such innovations in the last few years and converted his home into a museum.
