Royal Enfield eager to enter used motorcycle business

* Royal Enfield is likely to enter the used-bike segment
* The company has got Trademark for “Reown” brand
* They could sell used ones from current dealerships

Royal Enfield is likely to enter used bike business officially. The company has applied for a new trademark and received permission to own and use ‘Reown’.

This trademark clearly mentions that Royal Enfield wants to enter the pre-owned bike business. Currently, only a handful of motorcycle brands are in the used bike business. Through this route, brands can offer motorcycles in better condition, but the prices are usually higher than in the unorganised used bike industry.

Renown brand will enable them to offer motorcycles bought from their dealers or used motorcycles from an exchange program. Details are scarce. Thee iconic company would probably have rules & checklists for every used bike to assure quality to the customer before re-sale.

The surprising news is there’s a high chance all these used bikes will be sold through their existing dealer network. While this provides a great many outlets immediately, its a strange move by a company that has the biggest market share for middle-weight motorcycle segment. After all, if a customer walks in and can buy affordable used company-quality-assured motorcycle, then they may not splurge on a top-end brand new model offering of Royal Enfield. These motorcycles are a premium segment bike in India’s economy and the middle-class majority may not want the burden of loans if they can outright buy used older model Enfield.

100 word fiction contest continues…. #100WFC

Too Many Dive Bars and Bar Fights
by Bandit

Little Sport threw a scrawny leg over his ‘69 XLCH. He kicked hard, a Tillotson carb set him free from the bullies inside. Fuming he rode through, Sundance, Wyoming, like his leather seat caught fire, to a destitute trailer park. In shambles, he tore the screen door off the hinges scrambling inside for a loaded snub-nosed .38.

His crack-whore wife gone, Sport snatched the pistol, revenge blistering his busted lips.

Everything on the line he headed out when he heard, “Dad!” His small son ran to his side. “Don’t go,” he held tight to his thigh and looked up with terrified crystal blue eyes…

BONNEVILLE CANCELLED BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for August 24, 2023

Hey,

It’s been an interesting week, with the debates, the interview with Trump and the cancelation of the BMST event in Bonneville. Then there’s this image my son sent me this morning.

We better hit the news.

The Bikernet Weekly News is sponsored in part by companies who also dig Freedom including: Cycle Source Magazine, the MRF, Iron Trader News, ChopperTown, BorntoRide.com and the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum.

REGARDING THE DEBATE—I’ll let Alex Epstein handle the response.

How I would debate energy and climate if I were running for President
In last night’s debate, some candidates made good points about energy. But there’s a lot of room for improvement.

During and after last night’s Republican Primary debate I got a bunch of messages praising the candidates for using some of my Energy Talking Points.¹

One top Senate staffer wrote me: “I think your talking points were the biggest winner tonight.”

While I am glad to have had a positive influence on what politicians are saying about energy, my main reaction to last night’s debate was that no candidate is close to taking full advantage of the best energy messaging and policy ideas.

So here are the top 5 points I’d make to put forward a positive vision of energy and energy freedom, followed by how I’d answer the question about young people’s fear of climate change that no candidate answered directly.

(Just to be clear, I am never going to run for President or any other political office. But I will continue to do whatever I can to help elected officials and candidates to have the best possible policies, messaging, and facts when it comes to energy, environment, and climate.)

1. The most important thing I can do to make your life better—something that will lead to a better economy, a lower cost of living, more well-paying job opportunities, a smaller deficit, and greater national security—is unleashing American energy.

2. Because energy is the industry that powers every other industry, the price of energy affects the price of everything: the lower cost energy is, the lower cost everything is—the higher cost energy is, the higher cost everything is.

3: If we unleash American energy with energy freedom policies—allowing every form of energy to achieve its potential—we will become the world’s energy superpower by far, whether it’s oil, gas, nuclear, geothermal, whatever.

Remember when the world thought American oil was dead? Thanks to American energy freedom we had the shale revolution, and now we’re the world’s leading producer.²

4: Instead of unleashing American energy with energy freedom, Joe Biden has strangled American energy with green energy fascism—using dictatorial power to stop crucial mining and drilling projects, shut down reliable power plants, and prevent vital new pipelines.³

The results of Biden’s green energy fascism are higher energy prices, an increasingly unreliable grid, and a deadly dependence on China, which controls the whole solar/wind/battery supply chain, produced of course using coal; China is actively building over 100 new coal plants.4

5: If elected President, I will from Day 1 unleash American energy with energy freedom policies, including: liberate domestic mining and drilling for all forms of energy, end preferences for unreliable electricity, and decriminalize nuclear energy.
With my energy freedom policies, we’ll see a jump-started economy, lower fuel prices and food prices, new job opportunities for workers of all skill levels, a lower deficit, and a weakened China that can no longer control our energy and therefore us.

To unleash American energy through energy freedom is going to require not just rhetoric but radical, enduring policy changes against huge deep state and corporate opposition. I am 100% committed to making this kind of change.

How I would have responded to last night’s climate question from a student, which was: “Polls consistently show that young people’s number one issue is climate change. How will you as both President of the United States and leader of the Republican Party calm their fears that the Republican Party doesn’t care about climate change?”

Many Americans, especially young Americans, are very concerned about climate given what they hear from the media and other institutions. The solution is neither to evade their concern nor to appease it. We need a candidate who can alleviate their concerns with science, logic, and good policy ideas.

We need to make clear to young people the difference between climate impact, which is real, and climate catastrophe, which is not.

The world has warmed ~1° C in the last 170 years. Humans have some influence. But because we are so good at mastering climate, climate disaster deaths fell 98% over the last century.5

To address any long-term concerns about CO2 emissions we need to advocate the policies that have the best chance of actually leading to cost-effective alternatives that everyone, including China and India, will actually use. And those policies are energy freedom policies.6

Energy freedom means: liberate development, including mining, from all the irrational restrictions (including NEPA, which strangles anything that somehow connects to the Federal government, which is most large projects) and to decriminalize nuclear energy.

DIRECT FROM THE BONNEVILLE MOTORCYCLE SPEED TRIALS–

I wanted to reach out directly to you, the participants. For many of you I know your race programs, how they have grown, and what you are looking to achieve at the event. For our newest participants I was looking forward to meeting you and learning about you and your objectives. Everyone has a story and a goal, and I want to facilitate and support you in achieving them.

A small core crew of racer volunteers have been working here in Wendover the past few days as part of the assessment team, and also prepping gear and trailers to support 2024.

We have significant new improvements we were planning to debut (including new mile marker flags) that we have prepped for implementation next year. As of Thursday, this team is heading back to their homes and we will be spending the weekend unpacking and getting the next items in our cancellation process underway.

I will begin contacting each of you early next week about our plans for 2024 and cancellation options to support the event. It takes a lot to support world class racing and I thank you for your patience with this all volunteer operation as we shift gears into closing 2023 and planning for 2024.

COMMENT FROM DR. JUDITH CURRY’S WEBSITE–

People who criticize coal are beyond redemption. Coal is poetic; trees covered Gondwana during the Carboniferous period. Those trees died and after millions of years became coal. Humans dig up coal and use it to build every amenity which has taken humanity from the tyranny of nature: energy. steel, cement; and when humanity burns coal CO2 is released to feed the plants alive today.

Only a moron would find fault with that.

GRASSROOT SPOTLIGHT FOR GUN NUTS

Annual Legally Armed in Detroit Ladies Shoot

Last month, the NRA had the privilege of attending and sponsoring the 12th Annual Legally Armed in Detroit’s Ladies Shoot. This event is the largest, free, women’s shoot of its kind.

Most of those in attendance had never fired a gun before. Thousands of ladies partook in this one-of-a-kind, judgment-free event, with the assistance of NRA and USCCA volunteer instructors.

This made for the perfect introduction to firearms and firearms safety. Following the event, many showed a deep interest in seeking further firearms training. NRA-ILA has long-supported new NRA Board Member, Rick Ector’s, Legally Armed in Detroit event. Last month, as we set-up at Midwest Shooting Center (formally Top Gun), we were once again reminded of where it all began.

ANOTHER 100-WORD FICTION IS COMING

REVIEW: Very engaging and sets the mood and scenario. I like it. It could be a lengthier story.

The mention of a crack whore wife reminded me of Johnny Cash song — Cocaine Blues and Folsom Prison.

Check it out.

COCAINE BLUES by Johnny Cash
Early one mornin’ while makin’ the rounds
I took a shot of cocaine and I shot my woman down
Went right home and I went to bed
I stuck that lovin’ 44 beneath my head

Got up next mornin’ and I grabbed that gun
Took a shot of cocaine and away I run
Made a good run but I ran too slow
They overtook me down in Juarez, Mexico

Late in the hot joints takin’ the pills
In walked the sheriff from Jericho Hill
He said, “Willy Lee, your name is not Jack Brown
You’re the dirty heck that shot your woman down”

Said, “Yes, oh yes my name is Willy Lee
If you’ve got the warrant just a-read it to me
Shot her down because she made me slow
I thought I was her daddy but she had five more”

When I was arrested I was dressed in black
They put me on a train and they took me back
Had no friends for to go my bail
They slapped my dried up carcass in that county jail

Got up next mornin’ ’bout a half past nine
I spied the sheriff coming down the line
Ah, and he coughed as he cleared his throat
He said, “Come on, you dirty heck, into that district court”

Into the courtroom my trial began
Where I was handled by twelve honest men
Just before the jury started out
I saw the little judge commence to look about

In about five minutes in walked the man
Holding the verdict in his right hand
The verdict read in the first degree
I hollered, “Lawdy Lawdy, have a mercy on me”

The judge he smiled as he picked up his pen
99 years in the Folsom pen
99 years underneath that ground
I can’t forget the day I shot that bad bitch down

Come on you’ve gotta listen unto me
Lay off that whiskey and let that cocaine be

“It is stupid to buy ICE now” – Ola Electric CEO

The company recently launched the Ola S1 Air and on Independence Day it launched the S1 X across its 1000 sales centers. Ola expects demand to grow further in small towns and rural areas with the S1 X, which is more affordable. Ola believes demand will go even deeper into the countryside now.

See full story at:
https://auto.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/two-wheelers/scooter-market-is-raring-to-be-fully-electric-already-20-is-says-ola-electric-ceo/102887947

Comments:
If this was regarding the North American or European market, many would probably gladly agree. The penetration of EVs at those markets are at least enough to market and promote the ‘new thing’ called Electric Vehicles’ which has captured the imagination of politicians, environmentalists, power companies, start-up entrepreneurs, and most of all the Wall street pigs who are the ones who will get paid big-time for — new infrastructure, new factories, new vehicles, new training firms, new dealerships, new advertisements, new consumer financing, etc — (and of course, “data”, which is the new oil).

This article however addresses India — which is neither self-sufficient in gasoline nor having the electrical infrastructure to power vehicles….not to mention the condition of its roadways.

Most of the Asian, African and South American nations can’t possibly believe the conclusion this Ola CEO has reached for their respective developing nations with their respective burgeoning populations. So, what numbers does this corporate head believe will come to fruition in India?

Just because you save a bit of money, would you buy a lame horse instead of a healthy mule? Is that an unfair analogy? Well, yeah, the modern refined ICE engines are in fact best of the breed horses whereas the EV tech are just new born ducks that can’t fly, swim nor fill our family cooking pot!

Sure, I am bitchy, but even the so-called financial city of India is full of overhead hanging wires and cost per unit of electricity is as high as it could possibly be.

The whole of India had been working towards enabling road transport for petrol and diesel powered vehicles and from last decade, CNG powered vehicles. Now into that potpourri they want to add a half-baked product called Electric Vehicles and electric charging stations.

Regarding Ola and its leader, at the very least they could have come up with better brand names than pretentious, apish S1 Air — you are a long way from being a tech icon such as Apple.

BIKERNET GUN NUT REPORT–Changes Coming Soon for New York State Gun Owners

There are some significant changes due to take effect early next month in the Empire State.

New York is switching from a jurisdiction in which the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducts firearms-related NICS background checks, to one in which the New York State Police will conduct all firearm and ammunition-related background checks using both NICS and a pending “statewide license and record database.”

This shift is occurring due to legislation enacted last year, NY Exec. Law § 228, which authorizes the state police to act as the “point of contact” for background checks required under “18 U.S.C. sec. 922(t), all federal regulations and applicable guidelines adopted pursuant thereto, and the national instant criminal background check system for the purchase of firearms and ammunition.”

That law directs the Superintendent of State Police to establish a “centralized bureau” for firearm and ammunition background checks. NY Exec. Law § 228(7) specifies that, within 60 days of July 15, 2023, the superintendent must “notify each licensed dealer holding a permit to sell firearms” to submit requests for background checks to the state police, which appears to be an indirect way of setting a deadline of September 13 (the date the 60-day period expires) for the system to be operational.

Section § 228(5) allows the state to charge fees for background checks using this state database, which fees cannot “exceed the total amount of direct and indirect costs incurred by the bureau in performing such background check.” One source indicates that these fees will add an additional $9 (firearms) and $2.50 (ammunition) to purchases and transfers.

The shift to a state “point of contact” jurisdiction occurs in tandem with a second change, a related but separate development under a state law that mandates background checks for ammunition transfers by “sellers of ammunition.” This background check requirement dates back to the SAFE Act of 2013 and requires that a state database for ammunition background checks be used (federal law, 28 C.F.R. 25.6, limits the use of the NICS system for checks “only in connection with a proposed firearm transfer as required by the Brady Act. FFLs are strictly prohibited from initiating a NICS background check for any other purpose”).

This ammunition background check requirement comes with a statutory precondition and grace period before it may take effect. Specifically, the state police superintendent must first “certify” that “the statewide license and record database established pursuant to [NY Penal Law § 400.02] and the statewide license and record database established for ammunition sales are operational,” followed by a 30-day period after which the ammunition background check requirement is in effect. In a classic example of the New York’s legislature’s signature style of “pass gun control laws first, figure out if they work later,” it became apparent once the SAFE Act was passed that the ammunition background check mandate was unachievable at the time. The-then police superintendent advised that his agency lacked the technology to implement the requirement and had “no idea when ammunition background checks… will begin across the state.”

A further complication is that the entire ammunition background check database project was placed in abeyance due to a 2015 memorandum of understanding (MOU). The agreement, entered into by the Cuomo Administration and then-Republican Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan, promised that no state money would be spent on implementing the ammunition background check database until a cost plan had been approved by the parties. The MOU further stipulated that any certification of the database as operational would not be made until the parties had approved a plan on its implementation. Last year, however, Governor Kathy Hochul indicated she was aware of the “old MOU that was signed related to ammunition sales after laws were passed the decade ago, it was an administration document between the prior administration and the Senate Republicans,” but decided to ignore it – “we are literally tearing it up and New York will now require and conduct background checks for all ammunition purchases.”

There is no indication on either the state police or the governor’s websites that the certification of the statewide license and record database as operational has occurred. However, the NY State Police website currently advises that the “background check requirements imposed on all retail sellers of ammunition are scheduled to take effect on September 13, 2023.”

A CO2 BROCHURE EXERPT—

GO GREEN GO!

Green plants grow faster with more CO2. Robust agricultural research shows that more CO2 will help feed a hungry planet. We can all agree that more food security helps us at home and abroad.

Land plants given more CO2 also become more drought-resistant because higher CO2 levels allow them to use water more efficiently. More abundant and stronger plants from increased CO2 are already seen around the world.

Satellite images show significant greening of the planet in recent decades, especially near deserts where drought resistance is critical. This remarkable global greening is the result of an increase of cO2 over the last two hundred years. Still higher CO2 levels will bring still more benefits to plant growth.

“The CO2 Coalition has produced a simple brochure. It’s available through the CO2 Coalition web site or if you want one quick, drop me an address to KRB@Bikernet.com. If you are tired of the bullshit and want to know the full story, read Greg’s book.” –Bandit

Aftermarket Defeat Devices Removed from EPA’s Top Enforcement Priorities List

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency-proposed (EPA) released its final National Enforcement and Compliance Initiative (NECI) for 2024 through 2027, outlining the agency’s top enforcement priorities for the coming years. The EPA did not include “Stopping Aftermarket Defeat Device for Vehicles and Engines” on the NECI list. The agency returned enforcement of aftermarket parts to a standard “core” priority as it had been for many years until 2020.

“The EPA’s decision to remove enforcement against aftermarket products from the NECI and return it to a standard priority is a recognition of our industry’s commitment to emissions compliance and the progress we’ve made,” said SEMA President and CEO Mike Spagnola.

MORE ON THE CLIMATE CHANGE– Misinformation Wins in Montana Climate Kids Lawsuit

A group of young people in Montana won a landmark lawsuit on August 14, when a judge ruled as unconstitutional the state’s failure to consider climate change when approving fossil fuel projects. The judge accepted as fact allegations made by plaintiffs in the suit, which we will systematically show to be patently false.

Just some of the catastrophes accepted as fact by the judge included:

  • More heat waves and extreme summer heat
  • Days above 90 degrees increased by 20 days between 1970 and 2015
  • Increased drought and lower precipitation

We will soon have a complete rebuttal to the Montana lawsuit. First, the plaintiffs cherry-picked the time frame of 1970 to 2015 to select days above 90 degrees Fahrenheit when the full data show that there has been no discernible trend since the 1920s. In fact, the period between 1920-40 looks remarkably similar to the most recent several decades.

Increasing drought and lack of precipitation? That isn’t what the data show.

According to Judge Kathy Seeley of Montana District Court, Montana is a “major emitter of greenhouse gas emissions in the world.” She added that the state’s emissions “have been proven to be a substantial factor” in affecting the climate. Is that the case?

Montana’s CO2 emissions are 0.6% of the total U.S. emissions. If Montana had gone to zero emissions of CO2 in 2010, it would only avert 0.0004 degree Fahrenheit of greenhouse warming by 2050 and 0.001 degree by 2100, according to the MAGICC simulator, a tool created by a consortium of climate research institutes including the The National Center for Atmospheric Research. These numbers are far below our ability to even measure and certainly not the “substantial factor” as claimed.

THE FREE SPEECH FILES–Elite Crackdown On Free Speech Worldwide Intensifies

From North America to Australia to Europe, elites seek censorship, privacy invasions, and the prosecution of wrong-think as “pre-crime”

The leaders of nations, representatives of international organizations, including the United Nations, and philanthropists say they are committed to creating free and open societies. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg says Facebook has independent fact-checkers, is open to all perspectives, and doesn’t interfere in elections. And, in response to questions from a colleague at Public, a representative from George Soros’ Open Society Foundations insisted the philanthropy supported free speech.

“In response to your effort to conflate any attempt to address hate speech as a frontal assault on free speech itself,” the Soros spokesperson said, “perhaps the words of the UN Secretary-General will help in illuminating a crucial distinction: ‘Addressing hate speech does not mean limiting or prohibiting freedom of speech.’”

But these words are a thin veil covering an aggressive attack on freedom of speech around the world, from Australia to North America to Europe, where the Digital Services Act, which demands Internet companies “Address any risk they pose on society, including public health, physical and mental well-being,” goes into effect today.

A blockbuster new investigation by Australia’s SkyNews discovered that Meta-Facebook has been paying activists to serve as neutral fact-checkers while, in reality, using their power to censor their political enemies.

The context is that this fall, Australians will vote in a special national election, the Australian Indigenous Voice referendum, on whether to give special political powers to native peoples. Facebook is funding those in favor of the referendum to censor its opponents. “An audit of RMIT Voice fact checks showed the 17 Voice checks between May 3 and June 23 this year were all targeting anti-Voice opinions or views,” Sky News Found.

NATIONAL REVIEW WRONG-– on ATF Frame or Receiver Rule

Political observers expect the Washington Post and the New York Times to carry water for Joe Biden’s Department of Justice gun control agenda. It’s surprising when the conservative National Review seemingly bends over backwards to defend the weaponized agency in a poorly researched and written piece.

On August 9, National Review published an item with the confident title “Yes, the ATF Can Legally Regulate Ghost Guns.” The ill-informed piece was written by a summer intern. If it was an unpaid internship, the publication got every penny’s worth.

At issue is the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives rule 2021R-05, concerning the “Definition of “Frame or Receiver” and Identification of Firearms.” Published April 26, 2022, the rule, in part, contends that ATF has the statutory authority to regulate so-called unfinished or 80-percent frames or receivers. As firearms built from unregulated parts for personal use do not require markings and are not subject to federal recordkeeping, gun control advocates refer to firearms constructed using unfinished frames or receivers as “ghost guns” to spook the ignorant.

Federal law, 18 U.S.C. § 921(a)(3), defines “firearm” for the purposes of the Gun Control Act (GCA) as follows:

(3) The term “firearm” means (A) any weapon (including a starter gun) which will or is designed to or may readily be converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive; (B) the frame or receiver of any such weapon; (C) any firearm muffler or firearm silencer; or (D) any destructive device. Such term does not include an antique firearm.

Note that the definition includes the “the frame or receiver of any such weapon.” The practical effect of this definition is that the frame or receiver of a firearm must be marked with a serial number, is subject to federal recordkeeping requirements, and a non-Federal Firearms Licensee seeking to acquire a frame or receiver from a retailer must undergo National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) check prior to transfer.

ATF rule 2021R-05 seeks to sweep items that are not in fact frames or receivers into the statutory definition of “firearm.” The rule contains the following expansive regulatory definition.

(c) Partially complete, disassembled, or nonfunctional frame or receiver.

The terms “frame” and “receiver” shall include a partially complete, disassembled, or nonfunctional frame or receiver, including a frame or receiver parts kit, that is designed to or may readily be completed, assembled, restored, or otherwise converted to function as a frame or receiver, i.e., to house or provide a structure for the primary energized component of a handgun, breech blocking or sealing component of a projectile weapon other than a handgun, or internal sound reduction component of a firearm muffler or firearm silencer, as the case may be. The terms shall not include a forging, casting, printing, extrusion, unmachined body, or similar article that has not yet reached a stage of manufacture where it is clearly identifiable as an unfinished component part of a weapon (e.g., unformed block of metal, liquid polymer, or other raw material).

When issuing a classification, the Director may consider any associated templates, jigs, molds, equipment, tools, instructions, guides, or marketing materials that are sold, distributed, or possessed with the item or kit, or otherwise made available by the seller or distributor of the item or kit to the purchaser or recipient of the item or kit.

NRA pointed out ATF’s flawed logic in the organization’s August 2021 comments on the initial draft of ATF rule 2021R-05. That document explained,

This definition is not consistent with the statutory definition of “firearm.” The relevant portion of that definition defines firearm as “any weapon (including a starter gun) which will or is designed to or may readily be converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive [and] the frame or receiver of any such weapon . . . .” 18 U.S.C. § 921(a)(3). With this definition Congress made clear that a “frame or receiver” is not itself a “weapon.” Otherwise, the second clause would read “the weapon of any such weapon.”

Since a “frame or receiver” is not a weapon, then the “readily converted” clause does not apply. If Congress had intended for those items that may be readily converted into frames or receivers to also be considered frames or receivers, then using the same language of the first clause in the second clause would have been a simple way to accomplish that intent.

ATF is correct that a “weapon” that “may readily be converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive” is legally a firearm, but a forging, casting, or other raw material that “may readily be converted” into a “frame or receiver” is, as far as the GCA is concerned, nothing.

Understanding that ATF did not have the authority it exerted with rule 2021R-05, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas Judge Reed O’Connor vacated the rule in late June. On August 8, the U.S. Supreme Court granted a stay that allows the government to enforce the rule during the pendency of the government’s appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and a potential appeal for review at the Supreme Court.

In a bizarre turn, to argue that ATF has the authority to regulate these items, the National Review writer either intentionally misread and then selectively quoted the definition for “destructive device.” The author stated,

One might fairly argue, as the opponents of the ATF regulation did, that parts of a weapon are not to be confused with an actual weapon. But this isn’t the only definition of “firearm” in the GCA.

To quote the law verbatim, “The term ‘firearm’ means . . . any destructive device.” A destructive device is then defined as, among other things, “any combination of parts either designed or intended for use in converting any device into any destructive device described in subparagraph (A) or (B)”…

And what does subparagraph (B) describe? “any type of weapon . . . by whatever name known which will, or which may be readily converted to, expel a projectile by the action of an explosive or other propellant.”

As previously noted, the statutory definition of “firearm” at 18 U.S.C. § 921(a)(3) does include “any destructive device.” However, the author’s truncated definition of “destructive device” subparagraph (B) excludes vital limiting language.

Here is the complete subparagraph (B) from the definition of “destructive device” at 18 U.S.C. § 921(a)(4).

(B) any type of weapon (other than a shotgun or a shotgun shell which the Attorney General finds is generally recognized as particularly suitable for sporting purposes) by whatever name known which will, or which may be readily converted to, expel a projectile by the action of an explosive or other propellant, and which has any barrel with a bore of more than one-half inch in diameter;

That last part is important.

Unless a firearm is over .50-caliber, it does not qualify as a destructive device. Even if a firearm is over .50-caliber, it still may not be a “destructive device,” based on its suitability for sporting purposes – such as most shotguns. Aside from the shotgun exemption, the “destructive device” definition also exempts “any other device which the Attorney General finds is not likely to be used as a weapon, is an antique, or is a rifle which the owner intends to use solely for sporting, recreational or cultural purposes.” Big game rifles chambered in sporting calibers like the .600 Nitro Express have been exempted under this provision.

Examples of actual “destructive devices” defined under the term’s subparagraph (B) can be found in ATF’s “Firearms Guide – Identification of Firearms Within the Purview of the National Firearms Act.” They include weapons like the Boys .55Cal Anti-tank Rifle and mortars.

The type of 9mm pistols and .223/5.56x45mm rifles gun owners make using unfinished frames or receivers most certainly do not meet the definition of “destructive devices.” Nor does any combination of their parts, finished or unfinished.

In short, the National Review author’s appeal to the “destructive device” definition to defend ATF’s overreach is a non sequitur.

If a National Review writer or others would like to lobby for unfinished frames or receivers be regulated like firearms, they should direct their policy arguments to the legislative branch. Were Congress to enact legislation altering the relevant statute, regulation of these items would still be suspect under the Second Amendment as interpreted by the U.S. Supreme Court in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen (2022), as regulating the home manufacture of firearms for personal use is not part of “the Nation’s historical tradition of firearm regulation.” However, such an effort would at least have a superficial measure of legitimacy, unlike the Biden regime’s endless executive overreach.

THE PRISM GANG GOES TO STURGIS–Rinse and Repeat

Our trip, led by Danger Dan, was the polar opposite of the average daily routine. We slept in the woods with no alarm clocks and woke up with the sun. We didn’t have a detailed itinerary, plans or deadlines. All we had was a paper Butler Map and 8 days to get to Sturgis.

Head over to our site to read all about our H-D Pan America trip with the legends Danger Dan, Nick Fahringer, Brad Richards, Matt Best and Jonny Bourgault.

NEWS FROM THE MOTORCYCLE RIDERS FOUNDATION

The Fight Continues

For over a decade the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) has been pushing the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on key priorities for motorcyclists. We’ve focused on the issues of autonomous vehicles, crash avoidance, and design and construction of our nation’s roads.

On the autonomous vehicle front, the MRF fought for inclusion of language in the 2018 Senate AV bill that required NHTSA to compel manufacturers to report on the self-driving cars ability to “sense motorcyclists in or crossing the path of travel through the automated driving system”

In 2020 and 2021 the MRF advocated for language in the House version of the Highway bill, which required that when USDOT conducts safety studies on autonomous vehicles, motorcycles must be considered as unique roadway users. Additionally, a planned working group on autonomous vehicles would have required inclusion of a motorcycle safety group as part of its membership.

Unfortunately, the dysfunction on Capitol Hill entangled these bills and they failed to meet approval by both chambers. But the MRF won’t take no for an answer so they took the fight on these issues to the executive branch.

Just last month, MRF leadership met with half a dozen NHTSA officials on the importance including motorcycles in the autonomous vehicle regulations. On two different occasions MRF members have met with motorcycle specialists at the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) about crash investigations and policies around fatalities involving motorcyclists. And just before Christmas last year, 27 members of Congress sent a letter at the request of the MRF to NHTSA that asked 5 key questions about its policies, regulations, and plans for incorporating motorcyclists in automated driving guidelines.

In both 2015 and 2021, the MRF fought for creation of, and then the renewal of, the Motorcyclist Advisory Council (MAC) at USDOT. This body is tasked with developing policies that make roadway design, construction, and maintenance practices that factor in motorcycle riders. The MRF anticipates having a seat when the new MAC is established.

We raise these issues because the journey is long, the fight is never over but the victories are critical. We thank you for your continued support of the MRF. We do what we do, and we fight for these issues, because you provide the resources, passion and resilience that fuels us.

If you are a rider and not currently a member of the Motorcycle Riders Foundation, follow this link to join us now.

WHAT’S NEXT? If only I knew. I apologize for all the politics in this news, but we’re under assault and need to be as informed as possible.

We were so ready to go. Luke was excited to see the chute deploy properly.

The bros came over after the Hall of Fame breakfast to check the action, including Nick Trask. We discussed installing a Turbo on the Torpedo for the fast round. He mentioned wanting to become a Bikernet Sponsor. You’ll see more of him around here.

Adding the tilt switch from Riekers Inc. turned into a major challenge. I bolted it to the front of my battery cap and wired it into the system. I was on the phone to the company a half-dozen times. Their terminology left a lot to be desired, but Ed helped me through it.

Okay, so it’s back to the VL, XA, FL, project and our alignment issues. Here’s the question. I reached out to Baker but Linda said because I’m running a ’79-84 5-speed shaft for a rear belt drive the shaft is longer and pushing the clutch basket out. Is there a shorter 5-speed shaft?

Hey,

It’s been an interesting week, with the debates, the political interviews and the cancellation of the BMST event in Bonneville. We were so ready to go to salt flats. Luke was excited to see the chute deploy properly.

Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials 2023 CANCELLED

Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials 2023, FIM Land Speed World Records and AMA Land Speed Grand Championship is Cancelled. Our assessment team has reviewed current Bonneville Salt Flat conditions since remnants of Hurricane Hilary and related storm systems delivered significant rain on the Bonneville Salt Flats during the past 24 hours. Although there is wind, it is not drying the area and is instead pushing the water around, making multiple small moving lakes to contend with. The mobile lakes are now making “high ground” a moving target to support track preparation, necessary repairs, and safe operations for all of our racers in time for the event to proceed.

Delvene Reber, Event Director/Owner “We put it all on the line every year and after the 2022 cancellation we were looking forward to an exceptional race surface and return of our amazing participants to twist the throttle and add their name to the record books. It is surprising and heart wrenching to be cancelling due to the impacts from Hurricane Hilary. We know that everyone wants an exceptional experience and we are looking forward to next year when we will bring world class FIM and AMA motorcycle land speed racing back to the Bonneville Salt Flats”

Current Conditions?

For many of you, the University of Utah webcam provides a great keyhole view to the salt from a few miles away from our typical track locations. Like you, we look at the camera and hope it’s indicating positive conditions across all of the Bonneville Salt Flats. As of Saturday August 19, coordinating with our partners in other organizations on the salt, we had identified several options for a great track, pits, and access roads with continued drying enabling workable salt. However, as of August 21st the remnants of Hurricane Hilary contributed to a series of factors that affected the ability to deliver a world class event. These factors include: 1” to ¼” of standing water over most locations; significant deep potholes that have formed; inability to prepare the course until salt is sufficiently dry; significant water at the access road that participants and spectators would need to drive through; as well as other factors. We conducted assessments in the morning after the rain and in the afternoon after significant winds that had the potential to dry portions of the site. Our assessment of the combined factors prevent us from preparing the site to the international racing standards required in the time available.

What happens next?

As an all volunteer operation, we appreciate your patience while we implement our cancellation procedures. We are onsite in Wendover and will be spending the rest of the week receiving ordered supplies and preparing resources for 2024.We will be in touch directly with participants this week with further information as well as information on our website https://bonnevillemst.com to answer any question that you have. This will provide further details on options to support the continuation of the event.

It’s difficult to have put in so much effort as racers and organizers. There are countless hours that go into making your motorcycles ready and we want to ensure you have the best platform every year to race. We appreciate, and understand, all of the hours that you have dedicated to reach your goals throughout this year, and for our international friends, the additional logistics that you overcome to reach us.

We are working together to help you achieve your Land Speed Racing goals and deliver a world class event. We also want to thank the volunteers for their contributions, the AMA and FIM organizations and support staff and our sponsors for their continued support of our sport.

Sincerely,
Delvene Reber

Politics and the Iowa State Fair

Few things left in America are more patriotic than the Iowa State Fair, especially during election season. Politicians flock to Des Moines to vie for their positions as they enter the upcoming Iowa Caucus.

This year was no different, as the livestock and rides and food competed with GOP hopefuls for the attention of fairgoers… they wore their t-shirts and shook hands and kissed babies and flipped burgers and in the case of Ramswammy, even sang an Eminem rap song.

But, of course the greatest showman ever to grace the halls of the White House over-shadowed everyone else, as he swooped low over the fairgrounds in his big giant runway penis of an airplane… and even more so as he heckled his closest competitor, Ron DeSantis. A plane flew over the fairgrounds that said, ‘Be Likable, Ron!’

The Trumpster himself strolled the fairways wearing smiles and waves and an open collar, with hundreds of supporters trailing along behind him. His hardest dig at DeSantis was probably the gaggle of Florida Senators and Representatives who flanked him like he was Elvis Presley… Rep. Matt Gaetz was even wearing a ‘Florida Man’ tee, and was quoted as saying, ‘We got pork that’s more well done than Ron DeSantis.’

When Trump entered the area where politicians take turns at the grill, he was handed a pork chop on a stick. He briefly held it aloft before offering it to a right-wing television personality nearby, who proceeded to eat it.

Later, Mr. Trump spoke inside the Steer N’ Stein beer building, which advertises its extra cold 27-degree brews and on Saturday had a “MAGA Meal Day” special of “$24 for 2024” that included a double cheeseburger, “freedom fries” and a coke. During this time, he spoke with Florida Rep. Brian Mast, an Afghanistan Veteran, who lost both legs in war. President Trump threw his arms around Mast and helped him off the stage himself and brought the house down. Before he took the stage, Mr. Trump’s team handed out leaflets attacking Mr. DeSantis for his position on agricultural issues, calling him an “utter catastrophe” for farmers.

The lesser known candidates made a showing too, with Nikki Haley flashing pearly smiles, Kennedy waving his ruddy charm, and Asa Hutchinson walking around talking about Reagan.

Going by the patriotic turnout and high energy competition between candidates, this election season will go down in history… and would be even if the front runner wasn’t facing multiple bullshit indictments from across the aisle.

THE CHECKLIST BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for August 17th, 2023

Hey,

The next couple of weeks will be damn interesting. First, my major focus will be all about Bonneville. We will peel out next Wednesday and be on the Salt for a week, which will impact the news hopefully in a positive way.

The Bikernet News will be short and to the point. The next two weeks will be significant in more ways than one. You’ll see the Montana report below, but over the next two weeks you may see a response. I hope.

Let’s hit the news:

The Bikernet Weekly News is sponsored in part by companies who also dig Freedom including: Cycle Source Magazine, the MRF, Iron Trader News, ChopperTown, BorntoRide.com and the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum.

NEW ENFIELD BULLET 350 — All-New Royal Enfield Bullet 350 Price Reveal on Sep 1, 2023

The homegrown two-wheeler manufacturer Royal Enfield has been grabbing all the headlines over the past few months, all thanks to the company’s upcoming Bullet 350. A lot of details have been revealed as the bike has been spotted multiple times during the testing phase.

Now, it has been reported that the brand is all set to announce the official price details on September 1.

Bullet 350 will be based on J-platform, and will feature a 349cc engine option, which will be smoother as compared to the existing model. It is the same unit that has been used in Classic, Meteor, and Hunter 350. The bike will produce a max power of 19 bhp and 27 Nm of peak torque.

Full story at:
https://www.msn.com/en-in/autos/news/all-new-royal-enfield-bullet-350-price-reveal-on-sep-1-2023/ar-AA1fg0Uq

Wayfarer’s note:
From the news reports, it seems the new Enfield Bullet 350 will be unrecognizable. It will be a completely different look and riding experience. It’s just unfair to still call it a Bullet because it has nothing left from it. The whole thing is a new model entirely from news reports gathered over the weeks and those who spied it testing on public roads.

REPORT FROM SPEED WEEK

We didn’t set a record. Track was exceedingly rough. We managed one pass with Dennis driving and one with me at the wheel. On the return road I hit a huge pot hole going 96 mph and cracked the water tank. It took 45 minutes to get from the end of the road to our pits.

Every day the SCTA officials escorted us to the staging lane because it was so rough. We drug the bottom of the car daily. Time to get started for next year.

SAYING GOODBYE TO BILL BISH–

To all who knew him, the family wished to share this as Bill’s last NCOM Newsbytes column. You can use or share it as you wish. Ride Free. Love & Respect to all, the Bish Family

Bill’s last NCOM Column…

OBITUARY

William H Bish

September 29, 1957 – August 4, 2023

IN THE CARE OF
Corrigan Craciun Funeral Home

Family will receive friends to celebrate Bill’s life Thursday, August 17, 2023, from 4 PM – 8 PM at Corrigan Craciun Funeral Home, 20820 Lorain Rd, Fairview Park OH 44126. Funeral Services 10 AM on Friday, August 18, 2023 at the Funeral Home with a procession following to the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd, Seville, OH 44273 where he will be interred with full military honors.

William H. “Bill” Bish, age 65, of Westlake, Ohio passed away with his loving wife by his side on Friday, August 4, 2023 due to medical procedural complications. Bill was born in Des Moines, Iowa to Clarence “Rusty” Bish and Margaret “Mitzi” Bish (nee Sorter), both deceased.

Dearly beloved husband of 27 years to Darlene R. Bish (nee Griggs), loving father of Rachelle Bish (Joey Zika), dearest brother of Beverly (Dave) Booker, dearest brother-in-law of Mickey (Bill, deceased) Griggs, dearest nephew of Aunt Jo McGlynn and Aunt Norma Morgan (deceased), dear uncle, cousin and friend of so very many.

Bill and Darlene were a team in everything they did together in life, truly adored one another, and had a deep, special love that comes only once in a lifetime. Within the family, the term ‘Beep-Beep’ became synonymous with the words ‘I Love You’. Bill’s family was his world.

Bill enhanced this world on September 29, 1957 at Still (Mercy) Hospital and was the charismatic, mischievous boy who could out-draw Marshall Dillon of Gunsmoke on TV with his BB gun, which was a sign of things to come.

Living his entire youth on 2nd Ave in Des Moines, he graduated from North High School in 1975 and joined the Marine Corps thereafter. That took him to San Diego CA, Memphis TN, Korea and Japan. Bill received many commendations, was a marksman on the shooting team, part of the Press Corps and reached the rank of E-5 Sargent during his tour. He was a proud Marine. He returned home in 1979 to go to Drake University, majoring in Journalism and Public Relations, where he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in 3 years. He also bought a brand-new Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Upon his college graduation, Bill was recruited to work for the National Rifle Association (NRA) in Washington DC where he ran celebrity shooting competitions and even wrote quotes for President Ronald Reagan, among other writing and promotional duties. He then headed for the sunshine of Los Angeles, CA where he really got involved in the world of motorcycling. He worked for various motorcycle attorneys, including over two decades with the Law Offices of Richard Lester in California and the Law Offices of Ralph C. Buss in Ohio, and even multiple years with the infamous Easyriders Magazine, the superlative biker’s lifestyle guide of the time.

Bill found his passion in legislation and politics affecting the industry, working to protect motorcycling and individual freedom through his paid positions and various volunteer organizations. Along with many others, his efforts helped grow a grassroots movement that changed a notorious federal law in four short years, which was unheard of. He helped make bikers a political force to be reckoned with.

Bill was a true biker, putting hundreds of thousands of miles riding around almost every state in this country; a nation he loved, that he would fight for, and that he thought had the most beautiful landscape to see, especially from the seat of a motorcycle. He traversed the country many times, usually with Darlene on her bike and Rachelle in the sidecar, speaking at various biker rallies and seminars. He was a very inspiring, captivating speaker, bigger than life. That’s how he and Darlene met, at a Freedom Rally in Tennessee fighting for their rights. The two of them had an instant deep connection that was inexplicable, they were truly soulmates who found a love that was glorious. Their daughter Rachelle made his life complete and was the apple of his eye and he was so very proud of her.

Bill Bish was the former Executive Coordinator and current Public Relations Liaison of the National Coalition of Motorcyclists and Aid to Injured Motorcyclists (NCOM and AIM), former State Director of ABATE of California and Concerned Motorcycle Riders of Ohio (CMRO), member of ABATE of Ohio, Kentucky Motorcycle Association (KMA/KBA) and the American Motorcyclists Association (AMA), was on the original Steering Committee for the formation of the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) in the 80s, among other positions, and had been politically active for over 40 years in bikers’ rights issues. He had four Silver Spoke Awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award, and was inducted into the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum Hall of Fame in South Dakota, home of the Black Hills Motorcycle Rally.

After moving to Ohio in 2001 to be by Darlene’s family, the two of them got into the magazine business and eventually became owners/publishers of Ridin’ On Motorcycle Magazine in 2007. It quickly became the #1 regional publication of its type and they were very proud of it and a summer-long program Bill created in 2008 called the Ride ‘N’ Roll, both of which still continue today. He was such a prolific wordsmith and has had a news column that went out to a half a million people for over two decades. He wrote for various magazines, lawyers, doctors, politicians and even a President. But more so, Bill was a GOOD man, a great man. He touched so, so many people with his kindness, his motivating speeches, his resolute spirit and his amazing sense of humor. Bill was a man of the utmost integrity and a generous caring soul that thought of everyone else first before himself. He was larger than life and his presence will be felt forever. Please remember his big smile and zest for life to live each day to its fullest, as he did.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at http://www.CorriganCraciun.com for the Bish family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill Bish’s name/honor to the National Coalition of Motorcyclists or any Motorcycle Rights Organization.

MAJOR CLIMATE CASE–Montana Republicans lost Held v Montana

On August 14, 2023, Montana Republicans lost the Held v Montana (HvM) climate lawsuit, as I wrote they would since June 2022, based upon how AG Knudsen was failing to prepare to defeat HvM.

The judge did not make a biased decision, as AG Knudsen now claims. The judge properly used the evidence presented in the trial. The Supreme Court will agree with the judge.

Montana lost because Knudsen did not defend against the plaintiffs’ climate claims.

Worse, before the trial began on June 12, 2023, Assistant AG Michael Russell stipulated,

“for the purposes of trial, there is a scientific consensus that earth is warming as a direct result of human GHG emissions, primarily from the burning of fossil fuels.”

Knudsen gave away the farm. He caved on climate and gave the Democrats control of Montana’s mining, energy, economy, and education.

Knudsen’s stipulation reduced the trial to the issue of whether the Montana Constitution prevails over the legislature. But he presented no evidence that the legislature prevails over the Constitution. He could have asked a constitution expert to argue that point.

Knudsen used two witnesses from the State to describe how they processed applications for mining and energy production. But “how” Montana processes these applications does not prove the Constitution authorizes the process.

HvM makes unconstitutional the 2023 Republican bills SB 557 and HB 971 that the legislature intended to assure the legislature had power over the Constitution.

In 2011, my attorney Quentin Rhoades and I won this exact same lawsuit in 10 days on climate alone in Montana’s Supreme Court. The court’s decision set a Montana precedent that “climate science is not settled” enough to support the plaintiffs’ claims.

Knudsen did not reference this 2011 Montana Supreme Court decision and precedent to dismiss or defeat HvM as he should have.

Quentin and I won because we made logical arguments. Judges follow logic. Our 2011 win saved Montana billions of dollars per year. AG Knudsen reversed these savings.

HvM was on AG Knudsen’s desk when he took office in January 2021. All Knudsen had to do to defeat HvM was to contract with Quentin Rhoades since he already won the same lawsuit. Such a contract would have cost Montana less than Montana now will pay the plaintiffs for their attorney fees. And Montana would have won the attorney fees.

Quentin and I would have organized a dozen true climate experts who would have destroyed the plaintiffs’ pseudoscience, and saved Montana and America from the climate fraud.

As an example, the plaintiffs assume human CO2 emissions cause all the CO2 increase.

To justify that assumption, they claim the half-life for human CO2 in the atmosphere is hundreds or thousands of years while the half-life for natural CO2 is 2.4 years.

So, we ask the plaintiffs’ experts, “How is this possible when human and natural CO2 molecules are identical?”

Duh? Both human and natural CO2 have a half-life of 2.4 years according to the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). And IPCC’s carbon cycle says human CO2 is only 8% of today’s atmosphere, not 33% as the plaintiffs’ experts assume.

Carbon-14 data show the percent of human CO2 in the atmosphere is about zero.

The COVID pandemic reduced human CO2 emissions by about 20% for a year. But the CO2 level continued to increase undisturbed by the dramatic decrease in human CO2 emissions, showing human CO2 does not control the CO2 level.

The bottom line is IPCC’s own data show nature, not human CO2, causes the CO2 increase. This negates all the plaintiffs damage claims. Checkmate.

There is much more evidence that the plaintiffs’ climate beliefs are delusions. This illustrates my point that HvM was easy to defeat on the science alone.

Knudsen should lose his law license because he did not ethically represent the defendants who are the people who voted for him.

HvM will go down in history as the trial where Montana Republicans censored climate truth and gave Democrats control of Montana’s mining, energy, economy, and education.

SALT TORPEDO FIRST BONNEVILLE RUN

One of my assignments included rewiring the JIMS fan to prevent excessive head to the heads, making a cap to prevent inadvertent ejection of the parachute and working with Luke to set up the parachute cable release system.

Oops, also included in my assignment list was a check list. Check the check list:

SALT TORPEDO CHECK LIST

  • Check front end, and steering fasteners
  • Check front wheels
  • Check Tire pressure
  • Check for fuel leaks
  • Check fuel level
  • Check oil level.
  • Check rear chain, tire and axle
  • Safety wire rear axle
  • Check all pilot controls for lose fasteners and adjustments

That’s a start. We accomplished most of the above items and I’m hoping the Rieker’s Tilt switch will arrive today, it better. I’m still checking and tightening fasteners. About the time we check one challenging item off the list, we add three more.

Tomorrow afternoon, we will test load the Torpedo in the new trailer. Luke and I started loading the 5-Ball van yesterday. We will need lots of straps and bungie cords. I may need to modify a couple of wheel chocks for the front wheels.

The list goes on. We’re getting close. I received the tilt switch today. Maybe wire tomorrow.

MEETING OF THE MINDS 2023 is Coming–

Listening, Making a Difference, and Moving Forward to Protect the Future of Motorcycling and Motorcyclists’ Rights!

The Meeting of the Minds conference is where it all began and it’s where motorcyclists’ rights advocates come to experience tailormade workshops addressing issues facing motorcyclists today. It’s where motorcyclists’ rights advocates can get up-to-date information on issues relating to the attacks against motorcycling and motorcyclists’ rights.

The Motorcycle Riders Foundation’s annual Meeting of the Minds conference reflects that the MRF listens to our members, partner state motorcyclists’ rights organizations, and motorcycle clubs. MRF members and the motorcycling world know that the MRF is making a difference and moving forward – on Capitol Hill and in state legislatures — to protect the future of motorcycling and motorcyclists’ rights.

The success of this year’s Bikers Inside the Beltway was the result of what the MRF shared at the Meeting of the Minds conferences. Keeping our members, partner SMROs, and motorcycle clubs informed and on point is what makes the Motorcycle Riders Foundation the foremost motorcyclists’ rights advocacy group in the nation.

Listening, making a difference, and moving forward to protect the future of motorcycling, this year’s Meeting of the Minds features sixteen workshops and ten new presenters, plus a host of new topics added to the mix!

The Meeting of the Minds – presenters who live and breathe motorcyclists’ rights, topical workshops that have real-world applications for protecting the future of motorcycling– The Motorcycle Riders Foundation.

The burden of keeping the voice of motorcycling heard before Congress, regulatory agencies, and state legislatures is shouldered by the Motorcycle Riders Foundation and the five hundred activists who attend the Meeting of the Minds.

The Meeting of the Minds conference has always been about “bridging the gap,” whether the “gap” is miles or just differences of opinion. Recently inducted into the Sturgis Museum & Freedom Fighter Hall of Fame, moving forward to keep minds open and the gap narrow is what MRF “Club Dude” Russell Radke does. Guided by his faith and his years of experience in the motorcycle club world, Russell’s Meeting of the Minds presentations are not to be missed. This year he’ll be joined by Chris “Clutch” Ward for a double-team presentation at the MRF Sustaining Clubs Meeting and the workshop on Keeping the Bridges open between SMROs & Clubs.

SAN FRANSIKO EXPANDS ROBOTAXIS–

California regulators have voted to allow self-driving car companies Waymo and Cruise to launch 24/7 paid driverless services in San Francisco. The decision removes most limits on operating and charging for rides for the two companies and marks a step forward for the autonomous vehicle industry.

More than 40 companies, including Waymo and Cruise, have received permits to test their autonomous car services in San Francisco. Waymo, owned by Alphabet (Google), currently operates 250 autonomous vehicles, while Cruise, owned by General Motors, operates 100 during the day and 300 at night.

Officials in San Francisco have argued self-driving cars disrupt traffic, bus routes, and emergency scenes. Cruise said it recorded 177 incidents in which it had to retrieve a stalled robotaxi during roughly the first six months of this year, while Waymo said it recorded 58 such incidents during a similar timeframe.

JOIN US AT THE SMOKEOUT RALLY–by Dennis Kirk

Burnouts, bikes, builders, bands, brews, and buds. The SmokeOut Rally in Salisbury, NC has it all and more.

For over two decades, the SmokeOut Rally has been bringing together likeminded riders in a celebration of custom motorcycle culture. Last year Dennis Kirk signed on as the Title Sponsor for the Rally and we enjoyed it so much that are back on for the ’23 Rally.

The ’23 SmokeOut Rally takes place from September 7th to September 10th for four days of events and shows. Each day of the rally features different events and shows to keep the party going.

Custom bike shows include a feature bike gallery, Perewitz Custom Paint Show, Dream Rides FXR Show, Ride In Custom bike show, and Led Sled Sportster Showdown. Racing action includes Mini Bike races with and without costumes and Old Time Dirt Drags.

Great music acts are featured every night of the rally. Other events include the popular Hammer’s Strongest Biker, Shadetree Biker Games, Wet T-Shirt contest, drive-in movies & bonfire, and bike blessings.

Sign Up for the SmokeOut Rally

The SmokeOut Rally has also set out to give back to the community. Last year, Paughco donated unfinished gas tanks that were then sent out to custom painters. Those tanks were then auctioned off at the rally and all the proceeds went to Meals on Wheels benefitting seniors in the Salidbury, NC and Spearfish, SD areas. The auction was a success and will once again be happening at this year’s rally. Be sure to check out these true pieces of motorcycle art and bid for a chance to take one home.

There are plenty of accommodations available for all styles of rally goers. For the pure rally experience, camping is available on site at the fairgrounds. Both tent and RV/camper sites are available. There are also plenty of hotels and other campgrounds around the area as well.

To see what the SmokeOut Rally is all about, check out the recap video from last year’s rally. You won’t want to miss this year’s event, so be sure to head over to their page to get your tickets and camp sites reserved.

1929 Morgan Aero

An 1908 English engineer Harry Morgan began developing his first three-wheeler, aimed at trials competition for the 1909 season in Malvern, Worcestershire England. The core of his three-wheeled “cycle car” design, the Morgan Runabout, was a central steel tube running the length of the car, its power plant, a V-Twin sitting up front driving the rear wheel.

The “sliding pillar” suspension was noted as the earliest independent suspension used on a car. A swingarm mounted the chain driven rear wheel. As Morgan’s designs developed, some machines ran a pair of chains to the rear, each transferring a different final drive ratio providing a two-speed drive.

Clearly Morgan took some innovative approaches to developing his two passenger vehicle. Morgan’s home country, England, also levied lower road taxes on three-wheeled vehicles, and operator licensing was easier, a sales advantage many British manufacturers took advantage of.

Drum front brakes are used on the Aero now on display at the National Motorcycle Museum, but earliest Morgans had only a band type brake on the rear wheel. As for power-plants, since Morgan sourced other makers’ engines, he could offer range of performance. Engines available during the nearly five decades of manufacture include Matchless, Anzani, Blackburne, Blumfield, M.A.G, Precision, J.A.P. or J.A. Prestwich.

In the 1920s the Morgan continued to have success in racing and was so fast that at Brooklands it was required to start a lap behind four wheeled cars in the same class. Likewise, Morgans were dominant on the trials hills, where they won more medals and trophies than any other comparable machine. The rugged strength of the Morgan and its excellent traction meant that it always performed well on muddy tracks when taking part in British reliability trials.

About 30,000 machines were manufactured at Morgan’s plant in Malvern, England between 1909 and 1953, with a number of others being produced under license by Darmont Morgan in France. Four wheel Morgans came about in 1936 but production and updates of the classic three-wheeler continued. The three-wheeler was revived as a design around 2011 using S&S engines similar to Harley-Davidson’s design. Weight of the new machine was about 1200 pounds.

In most states in America the modern three-wheeler was classed as a motorcycle, and Polaris joined the market with a similar concept soon after, the Slingshot powered by a General Motors in-line four. The Morgan company, still operating in its early 20th Century factory complex is successfully manufacturing a range of four-wheeled cars but has announced development of a new three-wheeler powered by a 1.5 liter Ford “Dragon” engine sending power to the rear wheel via a Mazda five-speed transmission and a carbon-fiber reinforced belt. It’s said that engineers planned for this design to be easily adapted to electric motor power.

This fine 1929 Morgan Aero will be among hundreds of motorcycles and thousands of pieces of memorabilia offered in the John Parham Estate Collection Mecum Auction at the National Motorcycle Museum, Anamosa, Iowa, September 6 – 9, 2023. Watch for information on the Mecum Auctions website, Mecum.com For schedule information or to register as a bidder for this and all Mecum events, visit Mecum.com, or call (262) 275-5050 for more information.

BIKERNET GUN NUT REPORT

New Details Leaked on Biden Administration’s Upcoming Background Check Power Grab

Last week, we reported on the Biden Administration’s treacherous move to defund scholastic archery, hunting, and marksmanship programs under an obscure provision of the Orwellian Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA).

The BSCA has proven to be the gift that keeps on giving for extreme and persecutory gun control, to the mortification of some of its more moderate supporters who thought they were voting for provisions aimed at reducing crime and increasing access to mental healthcare.

Now, details are emerging of Biden’s latest plans to leverage the sprawling, sinister act in his continued pursuit of civilian disarmament. This time the target is eliminating the age-old practice of noncommercial, private firearm sales.

THE CENSORSHIP INVESTIGATION

Facebook Censors Accurate Information Linking Wind Energy To Whale Deaths

Facebook also spreads misinformation by “FactCheck.com”, which relies entirely on debunked U.S. government sources

For the last 20 years, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said that his social media company is the “digital equivalent of a town square,” committed to factual accuracy, and protecting the natural environment.

But now, Facebook is censoring accurate information about the relationship between industrial wind energy development and the increase in whale deaths off the East Coast.

Yesterday, Facebook and Instagram censored my post linking whale deaths to wind energy off the East Coast of the United States. The censorship came in the form of a “FactCheck.org” article from March 31, 2023, which relied entirely on U.S. government sources.

The censorship came on the exact same day that Public and Environmental Progress released a new documentary, “Thrown To The Wind,” which proves that the FactCheck.org article is false.

“Thrown To The Wind” presents powerful new scientific evidence that the wind industry is responsible for the increase in whale deaths and that U.S. government agencies are either covering up the evidence or have failed to do the research that is described in the film.

Facebook last year defended its censorship by saying its “fact-checks” are just “opinion” and thus immune from defamation lawsuits, like the one brought by former ABC News correspondent John Stossel.

From NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW THAT

Heat Pumps Not Good Enough for Chris Stark!

The head of the climate watchdog behind the planned boiler ban has admitted that he still has gas heating in his own home.

More than four years after claiming he was “keen” to convert to electric heating in his flat, Chris Stark, the chief executive of the Climate Change Committee, said he still has a gas boiler.

“I wish I didn’t,” added Mr Stark.

The Committee on Climate Change lobbied the Government to bring in a ban on the installation of gas boilers in new homes from 2025, with the sale of new gas boilers banned altogether from 2035 as a result of the committee’s recommendations.

The committee and Government hope that electric heat pumps can be installed instead in many homes.

Questioned by MPs about how the 2035 target could be met when heat pumps remain unaffordable for most people, Mr Stark admitted that he still had a gas boiler in his Glasgow flat.

He warned that the cost of heat pumps remained too high and said it was “very difficult” to install heat pumps in existing flats like his.

Appearing before the House of Commons environmental audit committee last month, Mr Stark said: “The capital cost of it is too high at the moment.

“It can be brought down, but that will not happen unless there is scale installation and scale production. That is one of the biggest barriers. There is not an installer community for heat pumps at the moment.”

He went on: “I have a gas boiler. I wish I didn’t, but I live in a flat and heat pumps are a very difficult thing to put in there.”

Mr Stark said his own boiler engineer was sceptical about the application of heat pumps.

“The gas boiler guy who comes round and fixes my gas boiler – it breaks very often – tells me they will never work,” he said.

“That is a problem – and he knows what I do. If we do not have an installer community out there selling the benefits of this, and if we do not have support for it to bring down the capital cost so that we see the benefits in their use – there are widespread benefits, there is a huge system benefit to using them as well – then it won’t work.”

Mr Stark also suggested that the Government should consider tax incentives to make running heat pumps more affordable.

“The one policy that would make this really sing is to have cheaper electricity,” he said.

Is Sea life Safe?

Except for some coastal areas where pollution is a problem, the world’s oceans are healthy environments for seal life. The biggest threat to sea life is over-fishing.

Some people are concerned about “ocean acidification” as CO2 levels rise. This is misleading because there is no possible scenario that would result in oceans becoming “acidic.” Reliable evidence shows that more CO2 will increase the productivity of marine life, just as it is improving the growth of plants on land.

THIS IS GOING TO BE GOOD—This week is a scramble for Bonneville preparations. I asked around and ended up at Taylord’s new, one-man shop in Spearfish. Luke mounted my new Mickey Thompson tires, but we didn’t know what the hell the speed ratings were. Mick Thompson tires are now owned and manufactured by Goodyear. They said we could go as fast as we want.

After riding my funky ’69 Panhead it was a blast to work on it, to take my mind off the Torpedo for a minute.

Rain is a major issue in Bonneville and it rained in the Badlands the other day and we experienced a double rainbow behind our new flagpole. We are keeping our fingers and toes crossed regarding Bonneville.

We snuck out to the Full Throttle Saloon, the world’s largest biker bar the other day to check the action. Rode past it on my way to SugarBear’s Chopper Flats a handful of miles beyond.

Everyone needs to see the Full Throttle Saloon. It’s amazing, the massive equipment, the bikes the whiskey, you name it. This joint is outrageous.

We had a pow-wow with the famous Mr. Bear, at 83 he has a burning desire to build a tribute to the history of the chopper. We will bring you reports about his efforts and progress.

Jeremiah reached out. He’s looking at vacation time. I told him to come to Bonneville.

In the meantime, think and ride free. It works.
