Once EV is out of USA, you can rest assured, no matter the investment in infrastructure or technology or capital expenses–other nations and at least majority of its businesses and citizens will have no interest in pursuing EV technology.
Currently, the handful of minions are latching on to the “dream” or rather the Fantasy Fiction (’cause it ain’t Science Fiction) due to the continued market share and sales of Elon Musk’s Tesla. The technocrat has strategically endeared himself to Presidential candidate and former-President of USA Donald Trump. People can be sure, Trump knows cons when he sights one.
Energica board of directors tried to attract funding instead of having improved their tech, business process and revenue streams. To pay off the company’s creditors and debt obligations, the board decided to fully liquidate all of its assets rather than going the Cake route of declaring bankruptcy and then finding a new owner.
Maybe that shows some level of “honor” — to sell off whatever possible to pay their dues rather than further milk and misuse the financial systems made available to businesses for their success.

Wear A Helmet If You Want To Wear One
Earlier today, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) released a study claiming that since the mid-1970s more than 20,000 motorcyclists would have survived crashes had they been wearing a helmet. In total, the IIHS report says, 11% of motorcyclist fatalities over nearly 50 years would have been prevented by helmet usage.
While we understand and respect the mission of the IIHS to reduce traffic injuries, fatalities and property damage, the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) finds it necessary to point out three principal tenets of our position on helmet usage. First, since our creation, the MRF remains steadfast in the belief that those who ride should decide. Fundamentally, we believe that each rider is in the best position to evaluate the choices they make when riding, which includes the choice to wear a helmet or not, as well as the type of helmet.
Second, the absence of a helmet mandate in the 33 states with freedom of choice does not force motorcyclists to ride helmetless. These choice states simply allow a rider to make their own decision. Thousands of riders in states that do not have helmet mandates ride with a helmet and we support their right to do so. Additionally, states with universal helmet laws do not claim 100% compliance.
Finally, a primary part of our legislative agenda and messaging is crash avoidance. A crash that does not happen is always safer than a crash that occurs. As such, focusing on avoiding or preventing a crash before it happens is far more valuable than making a crash “safer.” For this reason, the MRF has always supported rider training and motorcycle awareness as proactive measures.
This report demonstrates that motorcyclist fatalities are a growing concern for policymakers. While the MRF and IIHS view this topic differently, we will continue to work on areas where we find common ground.

Hey Bandit congratulations on setting records with the salt trike. That’s awesome. Regarding the ’58 Chevy feel free to call or text me anytime for info. I just put a new engine in this ’40 ford. It was running rough and he thought it had a bad valve, so he wanted me to pull the heads and have a valve job done. When I pulled the right head the gasket was blown completely out between the two middle cylinders. Valves were fine. I was cleaning the head surface on the block and found a big old crack right where the gasket was blown.
So the guy I’m doing it for ordered a new motor.

Media reports would lead us to believe that hurricanes like Helene and Milton are proof that fossil-fueled “climate change” is making extreme weather much more dangerous by virtue of being more intense and/or frequent. Mainstream data and climate science show otherwise.
Myth: We’re experiencing unprecedented danger from extreme weather.
Truth: We’re experiencing unprecedented safety from extreme weather, including a huge drop in extreme weather deaths in recent decades. All media reports on extreme weather should acknowledge this, yet none do.
You wouldn’t know it from typical media coverage, but we are far safer from extreme weather like Milton in today’s fossil-fueled world compared to the past. Climate-related disaster deaths, i.e. extreme weather deaths, are down 98% over the last century!¹
Myth: Extreme weather deaths may have decreased, but damages have increased.
Truth: Despite many incentives for global climate-related damages to go up—preferences for riskier areas, government bailouts—GDP-adjusted climate-related damages are flat.²

GAME OVER CYCLES NEWS FLASH–
During the Eternal City Motorcycle Show, which took place on the last weekend of September in Rome, the Polish company Game Over Cycles (GOC) won an award in the competition organized at the prestigious event.
GOC’s The Recidivist won the Special Prize in the Custom Contest organized by the Italian magazine Low Ride. The best custom vehicles from all over Italy and Europe took part in the competition. GOC was the only foreign company awarded in the competition.
The Recidivist is a custom machine inspired by the world of tattoos. Motorbikes are commonly adorned with tattoo motifs using an airbrush, however the uniqueness of The Recidivist lies in the fact that the bike’s entire construction is covered in tattooed skin branded directly onto the bike’s tires, tanks, seat, rear fender, lamp, and the sidecar, which is an integral part of the vehicle. All this makes The Recidivist the world’s first tattooed motorcycle.
The Eternal City Motorcycle Show is one of the largest motorcycle events in Italy. This year on 30 000 square meters 300 exhibitors presented their offer, and the event was visited by 25,000 guests over two days.

ASSALT WEAPAN BONNEVILLE WIND TUNNEL UPDATE–
We have pictures, videos, and data from every run. There is just too much to share until I can get home, lay it out on the computer for proper observation. In short, we gained 25 m.p.h., we know our front and rear lift, how much horsepower to get 200 m.p.h., how much down force we have, and we are making these gains with 28 less required horsepower.
Observed the yarn on the Dioro Jeans sticker located back and bottom of the front fender. It is blowing FORWARD. We observed many interesting instances of both good and bad design, rider position, and slight changes on bodywork. Keith Ball’s original design was actually pretty darn slick and well executed. This was certainly worth the money.
Now, we will prepare the entire motorcycle for racing, dyno test at Michael Beland ‘s A1 Cycle dyno facility and then return to the A2 wind tunnel for final details. Then……we go in search of 200 m.p.h. I would like to thank the following Honorary Rough Boy Racing members for their generous monetary donations in helping me to get The Assalt Weapan Panhead back to Bonneville. Rod Balch, Joe Sparrow, Rod Sturgeon, Dan March, Craig Ziggy Zoet, and Andy Anderson. I spent all y’all’s money and it was worth it!!

Hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets of São Paulo to protest censorship. And Senators in Ireland appeared to have defeated hateful hate speech censorship legislation.
Then, the wind abruptly shifts. Brazil freezes the assets of Starlink, forcing Musk and X to make a Hobson’s choice on censorship. California’s Coastal Commission blocks additional Starlink launches because its members hate Musk. Word arrives that the Irish government will try to sneak through censorship legislation as early as this week. And we hear from our friends that the Australian government is trying to ram through legislation that would give the government the power to decide what’s true and false and bankrupt social media companies that disagree…

In 2022, for the first time in more than a decade, investors pulled more money from funds marketed as “sustainable” than they added. In the first half of 2024, the U.S. ESG market experienced net outflows of over $13 billion, on the heels of a $9 billion outflow in 2023. Morningstar, a financial research firm, found nearly 2,500 fewer sustainable funds globally in 2023 relative to the prior year and 2024 is on track for an even steeper plunge.
According to Torsten Lichtenau, Bain and Company’s global carbon transition practice lead, “When you look at the importance of [environmental, social and corporate-governance efforts], you can clearly see a huge peak in 2021 to 2022 where there was also a lot of action off the back of the Glasgow COP26 climate conference in 2021. Now it’s dropped back to 2019 levels.”
Enter “competitive sustainability”, a buzz phrase of choice of its most vociferous proponents. The European Commission’s 2022 Annual Sustainable Growth Survey (ASGS) presented a “competitive sustainability” agenda for the EU covering four dimensions: productivity, environment, fairness, and stability. In a word salad worthy of Brussel’s unelected bureaucrats, it describes the agenda as one where “a fair, just, green and digital transition which requires sustainable social conditions, will serve as a foundation for future prosperity and resilience. Well-designed labour market policies and social protection systems are the basis for resilience and inclusive growth.”

I’M BACK–Every day is packed with action, projects and choices. I wrote to the JD Vance staff this week for an interview with Grease and Gears TV. I believe the media is missing the point, but we’re burning daylight before the election. Rocky the Lobbyist from the MRF helped me make a connection.
I went through the Chevy Carb and eliminated the electric fuel pump. It’s never run so good, but there is still more to do.
As you can see, we are transitioning Bikernet to a WordPress platform and I’m working with my web master, Joe Jorgenson every week to make it happen. We had a meeting yesterday.
I turned in my World Report to Cycle Source this week and discussed some editorial issue with Chris. You may see Charlie’s Knucklehead and the Salt Torpedo in the next issue.
The Mike Parti Bonneville Bikes are headed to the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and should arrive shortly. The Board has decided against the expansion project due to some financial woes, so they put it on hold.
I’m working on my goals for next year. We will continue to refine and improve Bikernet and Bandit’s Cantina. I would like to write more and maybe complete another book next year. I’m going to jump back onto my Knucklehead project next week and finish the wiring.
Next year I will dive into building a 1913 Harley board track racer. You’ll see it all come together here.
Somehow we all need to find our way back to Freedom next year, and be able to reach Nirvana. Kids need to know we’re living in the best of times not the worst.

NEW PANHEAD ROLLS INTO THE EMPORIUM

Charlie’s ’51 EL
Charlie’s a wild man with a long flapping gray beard. At 65 he screams through the black hills of South Dakota on and 1946 Knucklehead trying to out run the winter.
He hit a rusting, riveted guard rail recently, shattering his leg, which was pinned but wouldn’t heal. The doc pulled the pin, yet the painful leg refused to heal and Charlie snubbed the notion to quit riding. A year later, on the teetering, aching calf he hit another galvanized guard rail on a notorious mountain curve and slit his hand open, more pins. He’s still riding. “I’m trying to pay attention,” Charlie said.
Charlie has two ongoing loves, building antique motorcycles back to ’36 and riding with the wild-men of the AMCA in the black hills.
He wants a woman in his life but grapples with life’s lessons. But let’s check this story from the vantage point of his refurbished 1951 EL Panhead. He bought it originally as a chopper. At the same time he scored a 1955 Panhead bobber.
That happened in 2005 and his mantra was to build a bike every year or so. This occurred during his flashy era, and he hunted for all the correct sheet metal and shipped the pieces out for a knats-on correct Persian Red paint job. Married at the time and looking after his ailing mother-in-law (for 22 years), he worked commercial construction in Alsip, Illinois in the labor union.
His ol’ lady, Beatrix, for 31 years supported his single garage packed to the chrome gills with motorcycles parts. “Oh boy a trike,” she said when he tried to stuff a 45 trike into the packed shop mix of motorcycles, parts and tools.
He shipped his original but slightly modified wishbone frame, the 61-inch engine (the factory stopped building 61-inch ELs in ’52) and the four-speed transmission to Jim Long in California for restoration work and rebuilds. He handled the rest including meticulously researching ’51 Panhead construction and parts. Searching swap-meets for each correct component and rusting fastener, he parkerized and painted each sought-after element and handled all the mechanical, tuning and testing until the ’51 was complete, correct, original and an everyday rider.
This classic, tank-shift Panhead started first kick after stored in his current U-shaped shop in Boulder Canyon for 16 years. The shop wraps around his home like a horseshoe.
“It’s basically a brand new 1951 Panhead,” Charlie said, “with turn signals, an official Harley accessory kit at the time.” He is also willing to sell the sorta matching, sister-ship, polished, gloss-black 1955 Pan rebuilt from the ground up in the same manner the next year or so 2006-7. In ’55 the factory tested tins attached with only six fasteners to the thin aluminum lip around the head. They leaked and the factory returned to 12 fasteners.
Charlie generally doesn’t sell motorcycles, although he does sell parts. He has most every motorcycle he’s ever straddled, old and somewhat new.
Both Bikes are all original, super low mileage restored Classics. The ’51 is currently shinning and adding serious class to Bandit’s 5-Ball Emporium on Main Street in Sturgis, SD. It’s CARB …It’s Always CARB
This week, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) announced the rescheduled date for a hearing regarding “On-Road Motorcycle Emission Standards and Test Procedures and Adoption of New On-Board Diagnostics and Zero-Emission Motorcycle Requirements.” As you may remember, the original hearing was planned for January 25, 2024 and was postponed less than a week before its scheduled date. The new hearing will be on Thursday, November 7, 2024.
The public hearing will focus on a plan requiring an increasing percentage of California on-road motorcycle sales to be zero-emission motorcycles (ZEM) beginning with the 2028 model year. The proposal aims to have half of all new on-road motorcycles sold be ZEM by 2035.
CARB requested public comments before the January hearing. Three dozen groups and individuals submitted formal comments on the proposed plan. Interestingly, despite the nearly 10-month delay in holding the hearing, the rescheduled hearing “Does not extend that 45-day public comment period. Comments submitted outside that comment period are considered untimely. CARB may, but is not required to, respond to untimely comments.”
The Motorcycle Riders Foundation submitted comments during the original public comment period. The MRF comments are viewable on the CARB website. The hearing will be open to the public, both in person and via ZOOM. Those in California can attend the event in person. We encourage all bikers who care about the future of the internal combustion engine and motorcycling to have their voices heard.

Hey,
I’m trying out a whole new News format and system. We are getting a hang of it, and I’m negotiating with the Web Team to deal with the Homepage. Someone said something about a meeting next Thursday the 17th. Don’t they know I produce the News on Thursdays? What’s the agenda? What will be accomplished between now and next Thursday? Yikes.
Let’s see what happens next. This process has taken almost a year now. Sometimes they comment about 16,000 articles are being moved. Recently there’s rumors that something may have been lost. We are living in strange times. I had a meeting with the lovely mayor of Sturgis. She’s being impeached. Half the staff resigned and turmoil abounds. Talk about mayhem, check our government. The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum has issues, so it’s no wonder Bikernet doesn’t share in the confusion.
Ah, but we will survive and ultimately be better than ever…

40th Anniversary MOTORCYCLE RIDERS FOUNDATION Recap
The last weekend in September, Freedom of Road Riders hosted the 40th Annual Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) Meeting of the Minds, in St. Louis, Missouri. This annual event allows motorcyclists’ rights advocates the chance to share the legislative accomplishments of their states, shape the MRF’s federal legislative agenda and learn from leaders in the movement about how to be effective voices for motorcyclists.
As Fred Harrell, MRF Director of Conferences and Events stated at the event opening, “We are getting better with age, as we embrace the future.” Part of that history and forward vision is a growing belief that building and maintaining partnerships across the motorcycling community is vital. An impressive number of groups were represented at the conference, including 40 state motorcyclist rights organizations, the American Motorcyclist Association, Harley-Davidson Motor Company, the Independent Motorcycle Aftermarket, the National Coalition of Motorcyclists, the National Council of Clubs, the National Council of Informed Riders, the Specialty Equipment Market Association, and hundreds of freedom fighters who all have a shared passion for defending our lifestyle.
These partners participated in developing and strengthening our federal legislative agenda for 2025. This agenda ensures that we are fighting for the priorities that matter to you in Washington, D.C.
The MRF has come a long way in 40 years! What started in a crowded hotel room has become a powerful force in our nation’s capital. Peace, Harmony, and Unity
Mahatma Gandhi once said, “Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.” Have you ever heard two voices sing together in perfect harmony, blending so seamlessly that they sound like one? I’m often reminded of this when I watch shows like The Voice and American Idol, where the incredible talents of these Divinely gifted individuals create such beautiful music.
One thing I’ve noticed is that as the show progresses, the contestants who remain seem to become more at peace with themselves. As they trust their coaches, the band, and their own abilities, the experience shifts from a competition to a concert, where unity and harmony blossom. These performers, already talented, only truly shine when they harmonize with others, revealing their full potential.
This same principle applies to life. Many of us forget that we have a constant source of support—Spirit—waiting for us to align in harmony and unity. Each day, we can take a few moments to close our eyes, connect with the Divine within, and feel the peace that comes from knowing we are One with a higher power. When we choose to unite with Spirit, life transforms. Like the performers on those shows, we gain confidence and discover new paths, trusting that we are Divinely guided, guarded, and supplied. In this place of unity, we unlock a deeper level of peace and harmony, allowing our unique music to flow.
Sadly, many people never reach this place, dying with their music still inside them. But I know that each day, I have the opportunity to live, to be, to do, and to experience more of life’s fullness.
Harmony surrounds us in every facet of life. It’s present in nature, in the homes we live in, the cars we drive, and even our own bodies. Consider the harmony that must occur to build a car—from mining steel, to creating glass, to constructing roads and bridges. There’s so much harmony in every manifestation of our world.
Today, know this: As I begin my day, I take a few moments to notice the amazing harmony of life. I realize how much has come together to create the world around me. Today is an opportunity to find peace, harmony, and unity in my own life. I am One with the Source of all life, and I take a moment to close my eyes and recognize the peace and harmony within my world. I refuse to let anyone or anything pull me from this path. Today, I will let my music flow, and I am deeply grateful for the peace and harmony that fills my day.

EV Charging Network Shuts Off Support With Almost No Warning
With infrastructure trust issues, companies behaving this way is a reason why EV, economy and environment fails
So everyone would like to believe in fairies, elves, mad-hatter, unicorns and EVs. But the Silicon Valley Unicorns–the Tech Startups raising millions and then valuing themselves in billions have really just pig poop to offer so far to paying customers and the government doling them subsidy and tax-free benefits. It’s “hopping mad” to borrow a phrase.
EV motorbikes with nothing more than a limited-range runabout, they’re hard to justify as all-rounders in 2024.
Shell bought Volta and many had a broken app loop with no way to charge, at a station they had previously used for charging with no issues. That’s what happened to Enel X Way and its US and Canadian customers.
Some publications have written that Enel X has exited the North American market. Since Mexico still shows active charging stations, and since Enel X’s announcement specifically only calls out an exit of the US and Canadian markets, that’s clearly not the case.
Enel X Way North America announced its impending closure in the US and Canada on October 4. Rather than give much in the way of warning, it said this closure would be effective on October 11.
So wonderful environmentalists, that’s one week’s notice. Now your EV is a display for your backyard and more toxic garbage for Mother Earth, the One Planet.

SEMA Applauds Newsom Veto of SB 961
The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) applauds California Gov. Gavin Newsom for his decision to veto Senate Bill 961 (Wiener), a bill that would have fragmented national vehicle safety policies by mandating a state-level standard that could have conflicted with ongoing federal safety efforts and preempted national vehicle safety regulations. Under SB 961, certain new vehicles sold in California would have been required to come equipped with a passive speed notification system.
SEMA, representing over 7,000 primarily small businesses nationwide, including over 1,500 in California, had expressed serious concerns about SB 961, citing its potential to disrupt the well-established federal regulatory framework governed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

I have problem to start a 2004 American iron horse after install the twin tec tc88a-ih ignition. I change the harness connector to install the new module but i saw after that is not fire in the spark plugs i follow the troubleshooting and found that the bike start again using a jumper wired from the positive of the battery and one of the + coil conector and the spark start working back so said that i have to change the RHC ( relay harness controller ) and said that www.wire-plus.com has it.

Hang on. I interviewed Robin of Black Hills Rally and Gold for an article for the museum in March. She commented to me something like, “Surviving the winters is tough on every business in downtown. That stuck with me like a bruise that wouldn’t go away.
We are fortunate to be able to offer some of our products on line, on the Facebook Marketplace, in the Bikernet Shopify Shop and I suppose on social media. Hell I don’t know.
But I do know that I will offer two items a week in the Bikernet News and on our Shopify shop. Here’s the first two from Buck Lovell, via his wife Tracy who works in Scott Jacob’s Gallery in Deadwood. With Tim Remus of Wolfgang Publishing, Buck created this Motorcycle Cop History Book. It’s amazing, historic and full of images all the way back to 1910. You can order this book here for a mere $35.00 plus shipping. The first motorized cops scared the shit out of horses on seriously rough rural roads. The bikes were basically bicycles with single cylinder engines stuffed in them. He covers the history of motor officers all the way up to the eras of FXRPs in the ’90. It’s a cool read!

Team USA Takes Shape
A trio of top-flight motocross racers will represent the United States at the 2024 Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) Motocross of Nations, which will be held Oct. 4-6 at Matterley Basin in Winchester, U.K.
Team USA has recovered nicely after a pair of injuries held out original team members Chase Sexton and Chance Hymas. Joining Open Class rider Aaron Plessinger on the team will be Eli Tomac (MXGP Class) and Cooper Webb (MX2 Class).
The United States will once again be led by motocross legend and team manager Roger DeCoster, who competed on six victorious FIM Motocross of Nations teams during the 1960s and 70s. Since his retirement from racing, DeCoster has remained an integral part of the sport as a team manager for several AMA Supercross and Pro Motocross teams. DeCoster has led the United States to 21 FIM Motocross of Nations team victories.

UPDATE FROM THE WAYFARER—Team Australia wins the Motocross of Nations for first time in 2024; Team USA came in second
With an MX2 and Open race win, Jett Lawrence, Hunter Lawrence, and Kyle Webster scored the overall win for Team Australia in the 2024 Motocross of Nations (MXoN). This is the first MXoN victory for Australia after coming close in 2022 with a third-place result and a runner-up finish last year.
Team Australia tallied to 26 points in Olympic-style scoring, narrowly beating Team USA at 29.
Leading the charge for the American team was Eli Tomac and he secured a second- and third-place finishes in his two races. Aaron Plessinger swept the top 10 in his two races, and Cooper Webb scored ninth in one of his pair of motos.
Third place on the podium went to The Netherlands through Jeffrey Herlings, Kay de Wolf, and Glenn Coldenhoff.

Gogoro Seems To Be In Some Serious Trouble
The future of Gogoro ultimately remains very murky. The company’s rapid growth and revolutionary battery-swapping infrastructure changed the e-mobility landscape in many countries all over the world.
Gogoro’s been going through quite a rough patch lately, as it faces some financial issues, legal problems, and internal difficulties. Gogoro’s founder and CEO Horace Luke stepped down from his position last month, sending shockwaves throughout the e-mobility industry.
This is attributed to financial performance of the company but its speculated that there is a fraud related scandal involving government subsidies in Taiwan.
Gogoro claims that it manufactures its electric two-wheelers—particularly the Viva model—in Taiwan, with domestically sourced parts and components. As such, the company is entitled to monetary subsidies from the Taiwanese government. However, allegations arose that the company was in fact making use of Chinese-made components, all while claiming that its parts were of domestic origin.
Gogoro’s reputation understandably took a hit. The company’s stock price dropped by 92% from $14.02 USD in 2022 down to just $1.05 USD—a clear sign that investors and key stakeholders in the company have lost confidence in Gogoro.
To make things even worse, it was reported that Gogoro’s losses inflated all the way to $20.1 million in the second quarter of 2024—up more than three times that of the same period in 2023.
It is further reported that there might be insufficient evidence to prosecute the company and that their models will be comprehensively reviewed by the government administratives. Gogoro stock has since then moved out of the rock-bottom into better numbers.
Gogoro may just be another EV startup that dies before it reaches the destination–just like an EV— and leaves a mess of furious customers, toxic waste, investor losses, governance awareness and technological distrust.

IIHS Studies Distracted Driving
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) released details of a recent study on driver behavior when using vehicles with levels of automation. The study, done in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology AgeLab, should raise the eyebrows of those charged with establishing rules for this new technology (study linked below).
This initial statement from the IIHS encapsulates what many have witnessed on the road, “Drivers are more likely to multitask when using partial automation, and some manage to do so even while playing by the rules of the system’s attention requirements.” The study points to how some drivers have “mastered” the ability to prevent warnings of inactivity and thus negate the intended safeguards.
The analysis included different vehicle types and driver groups, yet in every case, drivers engaged in distracting activities more often when using the technology than while driving without it. These results clearly indicate that drivers have a false sense of security when using automated driving features.
Drivers are responsible for their actions when behind the wheel. However, the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) remains troubled by marketing campaigns and narratives that intentionally or unintentionally create an overconfidence in this technology. The MRF has and will continue to raise these concerns with lawmakers and policymakers in Congress and at the U.S. Department of Transportation. Distracted driving costs lives! If this new technology encourages increased distracted driving, that is unacceptable. The MRF agrees with IIHS Senior Research Scientist Alexandra Mueller, “Better safeguards are needed to ensure that the behavior change actually translates to more attentive driving.”

What’s the one thing you don’t want to do with your wiring harness?
On September 11 (Wayfarer’s accursed birthday), Harley-Davidson filed a voluntary safety recall report with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for several 2024 Street Glide, CVO Street Glide, Road Glide, CVO Road Glide, and CVO Road Glide ST motorcycles.
The issue is a wiring harness routing that could rub against the front corner of the crankcase and could, over time, chafe the wiring insulation away. If this were to occur, the exposed wiring could then cause a short to ground, which could blow the 60-amp main fuse. The bike could lose power and be unable to restart, thus increasing the risk of a crash.
Approximately 41,637 total motorcycles could be affected, according to Harley’s records. This represents approximately one percent of the population.

RIDE OR DIE: Fate of Harley-Davidson’s ancestral Scottish home hanging in the balance
An urgent fundraiser launched
William C. Davidson grew up in the cottage and constructed the shed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where his sons built the first Harley-Davidson motorbike. A campaign is underway to save the ancestral Scottish home of Harley-Davidson. The property, widely known as Davidson Cottage, is close to the village of Aberlemno in Angus. Davidson Legacy Cottage (DLC) is behind efforts to save the cottage from being demolished.
The charity set up a GoFundMe page and it is seeking to fundraise £80,000.
Nyree Aitken, project coordinator for DLC, hailed the cottage as a “tangible connection” to the renowned motorcycle brand, founded in 1903.
She and fellow Harley-Davidson enthusiasts hope to turn the cottage into a space for events, gatherings and workshops.
Maggie Sherrit, one of the current owners of the Davidson Cottage, said: “In 2008, shortly after Angus Council’s Cultural Services Department had established its provenance, we heard the property was on the market. By then, it was under offer to a developer and we didn’t want to see it lost, so three of us, myself, Mike Sinclair and Keith Mackintosh, pooled our resources and became the proud owners of an overgrown, derelict cottage.
“We were successful in getting some funding through the Scottish Rural Development Plan, which helped us to restore the place. We’ve enjoyed a lot of support from the Davidson family.
“The only interest we had was from people wishing to purchase the site for development, so we’re absolutely thrilled that the Davidson Legacy Preservation Group has come forward. We wish them every success in their fund-raising efforts and future endeavours.”

UPDATE : As you probably know, on Friday of last week, Maggie Valley and the surrounding regions were hit with devastating floods as Hurricane Helene passed through the area. Thankfully, the museum, our staff, and the collections are safe. The museum is currently closed for daily operations as this event has rippled the infrastructure here; roads, power, internet, and phones were all dramatically affected. When we have established a reopening date, we will send out an email and post it on all our social media platforms. Until then, we are asking for your help. The fall season is one of the busiest times of the year for tourism-related businesses in Western North Carolina, and without the steady stream of visitors, many businesses will feel the impact. As our way of helping our community, we will donate a portion of all online proceeds during the month of October to local flood relief efforts.

To Vote or Not to Vote
First off, there is never a good time not to vote—no excuses. The most un-American thing you can do is to abstain from the privilege of voting. This is when the work begins as a citizen of this great country. You can affect the future direction of the policies serving or hindering us.
As a Motorcycle Rights Foundation (MRF) or an Independent Motorcycle Aftermarket (IMA) member you already understand the importance of taking a stand. As a member you will learn about the horrendous amount of work involved in passing or repealing legislation. You will come face to face with the unimaginable number of people who don’t have a clue to the consequences officials and policies can have on our lives.
Policies rule our life in America. It is of utmost importance to be aware of what controlling policies are on deck. Did you know, for 30 years the Chevron Act allowed politicians to start agencies who regulated our lives without your vote? The Supreme Court just this year overturned the Chevron Doctrine? That means we can re-evaluate 30 years of regulations you didn’t approve. At least now we can!
Most proposed laws before our legislators do not affect them personally. Say you legislator doesn’t ride or own a motorcycle but they suddenly decided to write a helmet law or loud pipes legislation. On the other hand, they could own stock in a company making helmets or are promised votes by a group who proports Zero tolerance. They are under constant pressure. This is where your motorcycle rights group steps in to keep you and your elected officials informed. State motorcycle rights group stay on top of new legislation and share positive and negative efforts with national groups like the IMA or the MRF. But both levels of freedom fighters need everyone’s input and involvement to properly contest or kill a proposal. If a bad law is passed, it’s way more difficult to change or repeal it.
We as citizens fund the government and the government was established to serve our needs. As a member of a State Motorcycle Rights Organization or an active club member you have a better understanding of this principle than most bikers and shop owners. It is on us to share this knowledge and the impact current legislation is going to have on our motorcycles, businesses and more importantly our culture.
I have personally visited shop owners who do not have a clue of the regulatory threats to their businesses. Some business owners are afraid to contest legislation. I am not just talking about making their daily routine more difficult through additional bureaucratic bullshit, but threats of crippling fines, eventually closing their doors and destroying careers. Independent shops ownership is rapidly shrinking. Only a few years ago there were over 2,500 wrench-turning shops nationwide. Now there are only a few hundred.
Our dwindling motorcycle shop industry is under attack from overbearing government regulation and illegally formed agencies. Please, please get all your biker friends to check out where their representatives and senators stand on motorcycle related legislation and vote accordingly. Automated Taxi Mayhem–To Err Is Human – To Really Muck Up Requires A Computer
Two self-driving taxi companies embarrassingly made news this week. First, while Vice-President Kamala Harris was in San Francisco, her travel was interrupted when a Waymo robotaxi got stuck in the path of the Vice-Presidential motorcade while trying to make a turn. The driverless vehicle had to be manually moved by police to unblock the route. That story comes on the heels of reports from San Francisco that parking lots with off-duty Waymo vehicles become confused and start honking at one another. Nearby residents have complained about the driverless cars honking randomly at all hours of the day and night.
In more serious news, General Motors robotaxi company, Cruise, will undergo more stringent oversight and pay a fine to settle claims by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that it failed to disclose information about a crash involving one of its cars that struck and dragged a pedestrian last fall.
In October 2023, a Cruise robotaxi dragged a pedestrian nearly 20 feet before coming to a stop. The incident injured the pedestrian and resulted in a suspension of Cruise’s license to operate in California. The case prompted Cruise to recall its automated driving system. According to NHTSA, two reports Cruise provided about the event failed to disclose post-crash details and were incomplete.
Remember that all three of these stories involved vehicles with no driver behind the wheel! The Motorcycle Riders Foundation remains committed to spreading the word about the protection that all roadway users deserve from being test subjects for this new technology. If the Vice-President of the United States can have her path blocked by a driverless car, what chance does the average biker have out there?

Troy Herfoss Crowned 2024 MotoAmerica King of the Baggers Champion
S&S Cycle / Indian Motorcycle rider Troy Herfoss
clinched the 2024 MotoAmerica King of the Baggers Championship with a win in the
final race of the season. A damp track set the stage for two races during an intense
weekend, placing teammates Troy Herfoss, Tyler O’Hara, and Harley rider Kyle Wyman
on the second row for Saturday’s race. Anticipation ran high among fans and racers,
eager to see who would push through the pack to claim the top spot.
Despite a challenging start, Herfoss found himself in 5th place after the first lap. He
steadily worked his way up, overtaking Tyler O’Hara, James Rispoli, and Kyle Wyman to
climb into second place. Once there, Herfoss and Landers separated themselves from
the field, leaving the others behind. Herfoss finished Saturday’s race in second,
transforming a 2-point deficit to Wyman into a 2-point lead heading into the final race of
the season on Sunday.
On Sunday, Wyman had a strong start, but Herfoss quickly caught and passed him.
Maintaining the lead for the remainder of the race, Herfoss secured the championship,
finishing the season 11 points ahead of Wyman. This victory marked Herfoss’ seventh
win of the year, and his 14th podium finish out of 18 races, capping an extraordinary
rookie season on the S&S Cycle / Indian Motorcycles Bagger.
Reflecting on the season, Herfoss shared:
“It’s been an incredible journey. Twelve months ago, I was on top of the world in
Australia, but uncertain about the future of my racing career. This opportunity to race for
a new motorcycle brand in the King of the Baggers series arose, and I wanted to step
out of my comfort zone—and that’s exactly what happened. From the banks of Daytona
to the world championship crowds at COTA, and even through the gravel trap at
Brainerd, it’s been a wild ride.
Kyle Wyman has been an amazing competitor—truly a professional in every sense. On
his tough days, he kept himself in the fight, and on the good days, he made me work for
it. It was thrilling and stressful, and a career highlight for me. Last year’s Superbike
Championship in Australia was a major milestone after recovering from a significant
injury, but I wasn’t sure if I could achieve this at the start of the year. That’s what makes
this moment so special.”

Tim Sutherland a member of the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum Board sent a photo of a bike he’s building that he calls the Retro-Mod. At first glance it has all the proper vintage touchstones including its Kiwi Indian front end, as a mostly vintage custom Indian should. But we say “mostly” because there’s that very modern Scout engine! Tim’s been working on this for a while and promises to tell us more when he’s ready to show it off. Stay tuned!

120 BIKERS SHOW UP– at Lemonade Stand to Support 2 Kids After Thief Stole All Their Cash Last Summer–The day the thief struck was hot and sunny. Young Josh and Rebecca Caldwell were tending a lemonade stand outside their house in Chesapeake Bay last August when they saw the stranger park his car beside them. But he wasn’t there to buy a cool cup of lemonade.
A man in a light-colored shirt and shades got out of the car, walked over, and in broad daylight swiped their jar full of dollar bills. He then ran back to his car and sped off.
The two Caldwell kids, Rebecca, 10, and Joshua, 8, had been busy entrepreneurs all summer, hawking lemonade in their normally-safe neighborhood for a little extra cash. That day they had a table and two chairs set up on the driveway and a sign offering lemonade for $2.
“We just wanted to make some money to buy some fun games or something,” Joshua told The Epoch Times.
Only about an hour into their lemonade selling, though, the suspect pulled up in his silver car and pulled a fast one, as footage from the Caldwell household security cameras appears to show.
The kids got a close-up look at the man, though Rebecca says she doesn’t pay much attention to the way her customers look.
What happened next was heartening.
The post “started blowing up,” Caldwell said. “Everybody started commenting. They tagged our local news station, who started to advertise our next lemonade stand the following Saturday.”
When the big day arrived, her video cameras recorded hundreds of people thronging to her front yard to buy lemonade and show support.
An unlikely group of supporters also appeared at the Caldwell house to tell them they’ve got their backs: a gnarly bunch of motorcyclists from a local bike club.
“There must have been over 120 that showed up,” Caldwell said. One biker informed her that “when he heard what happened he just felt like he had to do something, and he told his friends.”
The club member expected only about ten of his biker buddies to show up, but a huge group arrived from all over the area. Caldwell says that though she has friends who ride motorcycles and knows “a lot of them are pretty good,” she was still blown away by how kindhearted this group was.

Harley Recalls Nearly 42,000 Road Glides–Street Glides That Could Short Out
What’s the one thing you don’t want to do with your wiring harness?
On September 11, Harley-Davidson filed a voluntary safety recall report with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for several 2024 Street Glide, CVO Street Glide, Road Glide, CVO Road Glide, and CVO Road Glide ST motorcycles.
The issue: Wiring harness routing that could rub against the front corner of the crankcase and could, over time, chafe the wiring insulation away. If this were to occur, the exposed wiring could then cause a short to ground, which could blow the 60-amp main fuse. The bike could lose power and be unable to restart, thus increasing the risk of a crash.
Approximately 41,637 total motorcycles could be affected, according to Harley’s records. This represents approximately one percent of the population.

After capturing his seventh Mission King of the Baggers win during the final round at New Jersey Motorsports Park, the three-time Australian Superbike champion reclaimed the coveted American V-Twin title for Indian Motorcycle, outdueling rival Kyle Wyman and Harley-Davidson factory racing.
While an experienced rider in both on and off-road two-wheel racing, with championships in Australian Dirt Track, Supermoto, and Supersport, piloting a 620-pound American V-Twin bagger around a racetrack was completely new for Herfoss at the start of 2024. Standing on that podium and celebrating this championship with my team is a testament to our commitment and nothing short of a dream come true.”
The 16-race season was a tale of two, as Herfoss and Wyman exchanged passes both on the track and on the leaderboard. As Herfoss trailed Wyman by a mere two points heading into New Jersey, the title was up for grabs. Race 1 saw Herfoss flip the script with a second-place finish to Wyman’s third and go up by two heading into the final race. Race 2 is where Herfoss showed his championship pedigree, running in the front of the pack with over a three-second lead at times throughout the race.

Davenport, Iowa Swap Meet—
Davenport is right on the Mississippi River that borders Illinois and Iowa near I-80. The event held there September 28-31 used to be an AMCA-sanctioned event but some years ago there was a parting of the ways. In my opinion it hurt the event in quality as many AMCA members still boycott it to this day. Shame, but that’s the reality of it.
For me, it’s still a good swap meet and centrally located in the U.S. Like any meet it has its regular vendors that go from meet to meet while other vendors only attend the meets close to them. This makes it interesting as one never knows what goodies will show up.
In the past, the Davenport meet has always been a Thursday to Saturday event, however this year the club decided to open it up a day earlier, on Wednesday, and still continue it through Saturday. Seems to me it worked well the way it was so why fix it if it ain’t broke?
From my observation the change wasn’t effective as it didn’t entice any more of the public to attend. Looking down the aisles there were a lot fewer people this year than in past years. People who work weekdays and couldn’t attend till Friday may have figured all the good deals and hard-to-find parts would have been gone by then, so why bother?
I tend to go along with that line of thinking. Keep in mind, I don’t have any say in the running of the event nor were us vendors asked our thoughts – an idea with merit if a major change was being considered. To me it just adds another day of motel and food expenses to an already softly attended meet.
No matter what the decision is for next year I’ll roll with it, and I’ll still go riding for a few days afterwards. Sometimes it’s good to be a minion.

The master is working on a fine art piece around the 5-Ball Racing Salt Torpedo Record setting streamlined trike. Incredible and we will have images of the Salt Torpedo at Bandit’s 5-Ball Emporium and the store on display. We still have a few Salt Torpedo shirts but only in Medium and Large.
I’m working with Charlie who is selling a completely restored ’51 EL Panhead at the Emporium and has an all black ’55 FL in the wings for sale.
I’m working on some metal-art pieces and we now have a new artist on board in the woodworking department. Plus Danial James rescued a new dog.

Health is a gift, yet many of us don’t fully appreciate its value until we lose it. As we journey through life, we often take our health for granted—sacrificing rest, neglecting exercise, consuming poor diets, and sometimes turning to harmful habits like excessive drinking, smoking, or drug use. On the other hand, there are those who do everything right, yet illness still strikes. It’s moments like these that leave me questioning the mystery of the Universe, especially when we lose someone far too young.
Our daily choices shape how long and how well we live. We are fortunate to live in a place where clean water, fresh produce, and opportunities for physical activity abound. We have the ability to make decisions that promote our well-being—quitting unhealthy habits, eating wisely, and staying active. At any moment, we can choose to embrace a healthier path.
I also believe that the Universe responds to our most dominant thoughts. Our minds have the power to either invite sickness or foster healing. There are countless stories of people overcoming terminal illnesses without medical explanation, often through faith and the unwavering support of those around them. I believe these miracles are rooted in a deep trust in the Divine.
Today, I affirm: I understand that life doesn’t begin or end here. Right now, I am Spirit, expressing life on Earth, and I am committed to living it fully. Starting today, I choose to make the changes that will bring me greater health. I recognize that the Divine is the embodiment of perfect health, and as I am one with the Divine, I too am perfect health. When someone dear to me is ill, I hold the consciousness of their perfect health in my mind and heart. Today, I release all thoughts or words of sickness and pain. OUR HISTORY LESSON FROM COMPETITION DISTRIBUTING–Excerpt from Riding Vintage
The inaugural Dodge City 300 was held on July 4, 1914 on a 2-mile oval dirt track located northeast of town. This was an officially sanctioned event of the FAM (Federation of American Motorcyclist) and all the usual manufacturer-backed teams were present. These included Indian, Excelsior, Pope, Thor, Flying Merkel, and for the first time Harley-Davidson.
Harley’s last minute entry into the race came as quite a surprise since they had maintained that they did not build racing machines. In fact, Harley-Davidson’s Vice President, Arthur Davidson, had written several strongly worded articles against racing as late as 1913. Certainly there had been plenty of racers who had used Harley-Davidson’s, but these were always stock motorcycles without any backing from the factory. This seemingly sudden change in attitude was probably due to the boost in sales that Indian and Excelsior enjoyed every time they won a major event. Harley-Davidson needed to win races in order to compete on the sales floor.
Although Harley entered the Dodge City 300 at the last minute, they had been preparing for their racing debut for at least a year. This started in 1913 when they hired Bill Ottoway away from Thor Motorcycles. Ottoway was a talented motorcycle race tuner and Harley put him to work tuning their V-twin motor which had been introduced back in 1911. The result was a new race ready model named the 11-K.

OKAY, I’M DONE–I’ve got so much going on I don’t know where the hell to start. Between projects for the emporium, the museum, and that goddamn ’58 Chevy. I’m determined to get it running smoothly before the winter sets in. I just want to cruise and know it’s ready for next year.
We are waiting for gaskets from JIMS to put the Salt Torpedo back together. Then we will work on a major alignment check. If all goes well, she’ll be ready to another pass.
I’m working on a story about Charlie’s Pan and the 105th episode of Bandit’s Cantina. The list never ends. Everything about this year included mind-challenging turmoil. Let’s see how we can wrap up this year and find calm, creativity and love next year.
