With Marcus’s help we were able to bring the new Petersen Museum Overland Motoring Exhibit directly to you. Here’s how the museum describes the effort:

Adventure (ADV) and overland motoring are as old as the first motorized wheels and as modern as the future of manned space travel. In the pioneering era of the late 19th century, every journey was an adventure, and long-distance overland tours were worthy of news reports.

Tales of perilous travel to far-off places are cultural touchstones and among the oldest recorded literature, from Homer’s 3,000-year-old Odyssey to Xuanzang’s account of his Silk Road overland trip to India in 626. We dream of adventure travel, and fictional accounts in the late 1800s by Jules Verne and H.G. Wells were perfectly timed to inspire mechanized journeys on Earth and inspire off-world travel to the Moon, Mars, and beyond, a century later.

ADV:Overland documents the motorized legacy of our long fascination with overland adventures, as a first-ever comprehensive exhibition of round-the-world and long-distance adventure motorcycles and related vehicles.

The first motor vehicle to cross the USA was a motorcycle, followed three weeks later by the first car, in 1903. The first motorcycle to circle the globe was a Henderson Four, in 1912. Their stories were lost in the noise of the 20th century, and many who followed in their wheel-tracks mistakenly believed they were the first.

Only in the 21st century has a chronology of motorized overland motorcycling come into focus, as the genre has exploded in popularity and spurred research. Regardless of “firsts,” overland adventurers are a rare and brave breed, and many of their motorcycles are displayed here.

ADV:Overland also features very special three-, four-, and more-wheeled vehicles built for the long haul, their science-fiction off-world counterparts, and models of actual Mars rovers from our friends at NASA/JPL.

Motorcycle Poker Run & Raffle to support Central Vermont families

Central Vermont Home Health & Hospice (CVHHH) announces a brand-new fall fundraising event and invites Central Vermonters for a motorcycle ride, barbecue, and raffle on Saturday, September 18, 2021. The Poker Run & Raffle for Central Vermont Families replaces CVHHH’s annual Seasons of Life Fashion Show, which raised over $50,000 in its 20th year in 2019. Proceeds from the inaugural Poker Run & Raffle will benefit CVHHH’s Maternal-Child Health program.

As part of this event, CVHHH is raffling a 2021 Harley Davidson Forty-Eight Sportster 1200X. Raffle tickets are $100 each. Don’t ride? Tickets to the after party and barbecue at the Capital City Country Club cost $25.

Triumph Tiger 660 First Official Teaser

The Triumph team have been testing the final prototype of a new Tiger that is set to transform the middleweight adventure sports category and deliver a new benchmark in specification, capability, performance and style.

Triumph Tiger Sport 660 will compete against other adventure tourers such as Kawasaki Versys 650 and Suzuki V-Strom 650

Triumph Motorcycles has just confirmed the launch of Tiger 660, officially christened as Tiger Sport 660. Their latest machine is set to become the most affordable adventure sports tourer from the iconic British brand. A full-fledged hardcore Adventure version of the same is also expected to debut at a later stage.

Ahead of the international debut of Trident 660, a leaked image had suggested that the naked streetfighter would get two siblings- an adventure bike and an adventure sports tourer. Triumph has revealed a camouflaged version of the latter by releasing camouflaged images and a video. Triumph states that testing for Tiger Sport 660 is in its final stages.

Tiger Sport series from the British bikemaker is the road-centric range of Triumph’s ADV line-up. It caters to buyers who specifically want a bike for touring purposes and wish to stick to tarmac more often than getting into broken tracks. The bike is set to be officially revealed in a couple of months, most probably during EICMA 2021.

What’s similar to Trident 660?
2022 Triumph Tiger 660 is based on the same architecture as naked streetfighter. It will feature the same 660cc three-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. This motor is tuned to produce a healthy 80 bhp and 64 Nm of peak torque and the same output is expected to be available for the upcoming sports tourer. This unit will be coupled with a six-speed gearbox with a slipper and assist clutch.

Other hardware components such as suspension and braking setup have been straightaway lifted from Trident 660. Suspension duties will be handled by black colour USD forks and a mono-shock from Showa, although it will be interesting to see if they offer more travel or stuff like preload adjustability. Braking will be handled by a twin front disc and a single rear disc setup from Nissin.

What’s dissimilar to Trident 660?
While Tiger Sport 660 rides on the same 17-inch alloy wheels as its naked street racer sibling, the wheels are shod by Michelin Road 5 rubber. Even though the tubular frame underneath has been lifted from Trident 660, the upcoming sports tourer may get a new rear subframe and swingarm. Since both will cater to a different segment of buyers, the latter also gets ergonomic tweaks.

The rider’s seat is longer in the Tiger with an aggressively raked up tail section. The handlebar is taller and wider and the footpegs are placed towards the centre which results in a more comfortable yet commanding riding posture. Optional side panniers enhance its credibility as a tourer.

Tiger-esque Design
As far as its design is concerned, if put simply put, it is a Trident wrapped under the clothes of a Tiger. The motorcycle wears a typical half-faired design along with signature Tiger styling cues such as a tall windscreen, larger front fender and sleek twin LED headlamps. The big fuel tank and sizeable radiator shrouds further scream its ADV heritage. However, unlike other Tiger models, this one gets underbelly exhaust mufflers.

The 27th Annual Miracle Ride for Riley Hospital

Harley Davidson of Valparaiso takes part in the 27th annual Miracle Ride for Riley Hospital for Children.

The ride was a two day, state-wide event to raise funds for Riley. Registration began early Saturday morning before riders took off to enjoy a fabulous summer ride from across the state. Valparaiso was one of the six starting points throughout the state, with the finish line for everyone being Indianapolis. The second day of the event included The Big Ride in which all participants rode around the city.

While the Ride itself started in 1994, the event was a first for the Valparaiso location. In past years, Harley-Davidson of Calumet served as Northwest Indiana’s starting point, but since its closing its doors in 2020, Valparaiso Harley-Davidson has stepped in to host.

Harley-Davidson of Valparaiso was also deemed a Poker Start, which allowed riders to participate in a poker run. In a poker run, riders played a game of five card stud against other winners for a chance to win $500. In addition, raffles were held and included a 2020 Low Rider as the grand prize. Two UBCO electric motorcycles were also raffled for most money raised and runner-up for most money raised.

The Ride was one of many events held by the Miracle Ride Foundation, all of which benefit Riley Hospital for Children. The hospital is the only one in Indiana dedicated specifically to helping sick children. According to the foundation’s website, many services the hospital provides go beyond the allotted budget, and as a result, the hospital receives most of its funds through donations and charity events such as the Ride.

“The Harley-Davidson community comes together to help so many great organizations,” Jeff Haggerty, general manager of Harley-Davidson Valparaiso. “Giving our customers a chance to connect to and support a good cause as well as enjoy a great day of riding is what we are all about as a family here.”

According to their Facebook page, the Ride has become one of the largest motorcycle fundraising events in Indiana, and possibly even the nation. The event brings in around 4,500-7,000 riders, raising tens of thousands of dollars each year.

Custom Harley-Davidson Motorcycle inspired from favorite sneakers

Motorcycle designer Andrew Thompson has found a way to combine his love of Harley Davidsons with his love of shoes by building a custom Jordan bike.

“My passion for building bikes came from my grandfather. He was building bikes in the early ’50s and did it all the way until he passed in 2012,” Thompson said.

Thompson said he built his first Harley in high school and he said having that passion steered him in the right direction.

“It kept me out the loop of getting in trouble, me finding my passion for building and designing bikes,” Thompson said.

Thompson also deeply cares about his Compton community and the youth. When he’s not building bikes, he’s organizing community clean-ups.

He said he knows a lot of young people are into tennis shoes and hopes his work will spark some interest in the younger generation.

“It’s important because a lot of youngsters they become gang members,” said Ms. Showtime, a local motorcycle rider and long-time friend of Thompson. “A lot of the youngsters have laid down their guns and bought a motorcycle. They have seen motorcycles, but they never seen like a Nike motorcycle.”

“White beautiful Jordan bike, I mean with the stats on the floorboard, that was just beautiful,” said Nick “Big Slick” Naish, general sales manager of California Harley Davidson. “I was blown away. I’ve never seen anything like that and we’re around custom bikes every day and I’ve never seen anything like that.”

Thompson said his grandfather John McCollum, also known as PeeWee, was recognized as one of Harley Davidson’s Iron Elite, which recognizes the contributions of the Black motorcycle community. Thompson said he’s hoping one of his own custom bikes can one day earn him that same recognition.

“I want to do something that Harley will be like, ‘Man like that’s cool,'” said Thompson. “Maybe one day Harley will let me design their anniversary bike.”

Thompson said his two Nike and Jordan bikes aren’t for sale but he does take custom bike requests and can be reached on his Instagram.

Johnny Lewis with Royal Enfield at American Flat Track championship

Johnny Lewis Scores Top-Five At Peoria TT. The 74th Peoria TT marks a first for Royal Enfield at the legendary venue.

The 74th Peoria TT, round 11 of the 2021 American Flat Track championship, marked a first for Royal Enfield—the first time the 120-year-old brand has ever fielded a factory racing effort at the historic PMC Race Park in Peoria, Illinois. It was another show of consistency and determination from Johnny Lewis and the Moto Anatomy X team aboard the rapidly progressing Royal Enfield Twins FT race bike, as Lewis brought home another top-five finish in the Production Twins class.

Peoria marked the second TT race for the Lewis and the Twins FT, and the two seem to be finding their groove together, both on the dirt and in the air. Lewis ran well all day, placing second in the semi, giving him a front-row start for the main.

Following a few hours of rain delays, the main event got underway, and Lewis ran third in the opening laps of the race, ultimately hanging on to claim fifth on the night. The finish marked Lewis’ fifth top-five finish in the highly competitive Production Twins class, including a win at the Lima Half-Mile.

“This was our first time at the legendary Peoria TT as a team,” commented Breeann Poland, Marketing and Communications Lead – Royal Enfield Americas. “Both Johnny and Crew Chief Dave Lloyd had been there in the past so they were equipped to know what we were up against. Johnny rode solid all day to bring home a fifth. We continue to develop the program and each time out we learn more and see more progress with the program.”

Johnny Lewis and the Moto Anatomy X Royal Enfield team will be back in action at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina for the Half Mile on October 8. They will be once again joined by the women of Royal Enfield BUILD. TRAIN. RACE. at the final stop of the 2021 American Flat Track Championship.
