Hey, I don’t know what the hell is happening from one moment to the next. The world is on fire. Terrorists are on their way out. Although the media is trying to convince us that the economy is dropping, they’re completely wrong. Sure, the airlines fucked up and risked our lives with their poor security. And of course they want the government to bail them out from their own mistakes. You know as well as I do that millions of people will be flying again soon.
On another front, one of my girls went out with another woman last night, and we’re about to completely rearrange the Bikernet Gulch. We’ll be featuring a way to order HA leathers so you can be assured that you’re ordering the right size. In addition to Hardtail, we are now offering subscriptions to HORSE through Bikernet.
Next week we’ll have a new feature on the Easyriders Dallas Shovelhead project. We are planning a run to San Jose this weekend to the Custom Chrome dealer show. That’s just scratchin’ the surface. Watch as the Digital Gangster’s bike comes together. We’re hoping to move on our morale officer’s Pro Street bike shortly. The wrecked Buell was returned from Phoenix. It’s in bad shape, but the driveline could become another project for our master illustrator Jon Towle. Ya just never know what will happen next. We’re about to launch a new set of books on building custom bikes by Tim Remus. His entire line will be available in the Gulch.
BIKERNET INVESTIGATES SAUNA BEHAVIOR–Three men are sitting naked in a sauna. Suddenly there is a beeping sound.The first man presses his forearm and the beeping stops. The twoothers look astonished. “Oh,” he says, “I have a micro chip under theskin of my arm and that’s my pager.”

Broaching a controversial subject that has gained visibility since the Sept.11 terrorist attacks, Oracle Chairman and CEO Larry Ellison is calling forthe United States to create a national identification card system — andoffering to donate the software to make it possible.
Under Ellison’s proposal, millions of Americans would be fingerprinted andthe information would be placed on a database used by airport securityofficials to verify identities of travelers at airplane gates.
“We need a national ID card with our photograph and thumbprint digitized andembedded in the ID card,” Ellison said in an interview with KPIX-TV in San Francisco.
“We need a database behind that, so when you’re walking into an airport andyou say that you are Larry Ellison, you take that card and put it in areader and you put your thumb down and that system confirms that this isLarry Ellison,” he said.’Absolutely free’
Ellison’s company, Oracle, based in Redwood Shores, is the world’s leadingmaker of database software. Ellison, worth $15 billion, is among the world’srichest people.
“We’re quite willing to provide the software for this absolutely free,” hesaid.
Calls for national ID cards traditionally have been met with fierceresistance from civil liberties groups, which say the cards would intrude onthe privacy of Americans and allow the government to track people’smovements.
But Ellison said that in the electronic age, little privacy is left anyway.”Well, this privacy you’re concerned about is largely an illusion,” he said.”All you have to give up is your illusions, not any of your privacy. Rightnow, you can go onto the Internet and get a credit report about yourneighbor and find out where your neighbor works, how much they earn and ifthey had a late mortgage payment and tons of other information.”
Ellison said shoppers have to disclose more information at malls to buy a watch than they do to get onan airplane.Civil libertarians said caution is needed.
“It strikes me as a form of overreaction to the events that we haveexperienced,” said Robert Post, a constitutional law professor at theUniversity of California, Berkeley. “If we allow a terrorist attack todestroy forms of freedom that we have enjoyed, we will have given thevictory to them. This kind of recommendation does just that.”
Post said that while such a system may catch some criminals, it could be hackedor faked or evaded by capable terrorists. Nor is it clear that such a systemwould have foiled the Sept. 11 attacks, he said.But polls last week show many Americans support a national ID card.

THE CRAZY HORSE EAST COAST SUMMARY–I’m just checking in. The leaves are falling here and summer is becoming asweet memory. I didn’t go riding this weekend. I’ve been busy workingon paint jobs, rebuilding my Web site and getting ready for Biketoberfest.
The Softail is almost ready to be fired up. Tanks get bolted on later thisweek.Two notorious guys from NH, Oneeye and Maddogare, are riding down and meeting me in Daytona. They’ve been busy playing very loud games of golf in South Africa and riding across Australia. Now they are “borrowing” a beach house onAtlantic Avenue. My usual Biketoberfest buddies, J-12 and Donnie, are chainedup at home this year. I have attached two pictures of the latest work I have beendoing.

CAMERA/TATTOO TEST– Here’s the best one of the few I took today with the new digital camera of my riding buddy Suzanne’s Angel. She just had some touch-up work done on it to add color and detail.
It was one of the best days for riding I’ve seen in a long time. I hung the new camera around my neck and took movies as I rode. You can’t see enough so a few adjustments will be made, but the sound is great. I need to learn how to edit. The movie files are too big to mail to most people.
Racing at SIR today, Mailman caught his left foot under a broken shifter at 70 mph and wrenched it real hard. It’s bruised and swollen, but not hurt too bad. He loaded his own bike on the trailer.?

As a side note,there is a true “Prize Possession” type story written by Mouse as a poem. Afew thugs pushed her off her bike (Coldfyre), threw it in the back of apickup and took off. It pissed enough of us off to scour the city ofSacramento and we found it! Great poem. Here is her post:

Washington, DC ? The Environmental Protection Agency published its final rule on “large spark ignition engines” on September 14, but the agency balked at including tougher regulation of street motorcycles. “EPA intended to include in this proposal new exhaust standards for highway motorcycles and marine spark ignition engines,” EPA wrote, adding that proposals for street bikes and marine engines would be addressed separately “within the next few months.” Exclusion of street bikes is an important victory for the Motorcycle Riders Foundation and State Motorcyclists’ Rights Organizations in our sustained struggle against unnecessary regulation that directly threatens our machines and our lifestyle.
“Thanks in no small part to the Motorcycle Riders Foundation, the Administration decided not to rush to proposal with respect to highway motorcycles,” said Mr. Austin Perez of the Small Business Administration’s Office of Advocacy. “MRF and the state organizations weighed into the process, and it worked.”
The EPA’s unexpected move follows comprehensive action by ABATE of Illinois in amassing grassroots opposition to more restrictive emissions standards and attendant regulations through its “Operation Wrench” battle plan. It follows a concerted effort by riders in Illinois and throughout the country in writing letters of objection to EPA Administrator Christie Todd Whitman. It also follows an intensive lobbying effort by MRF that raised Administration awareness of the devastating impact EPA’s proposal would have on small-volume motorcycle makers, custom shops, and individual rider safety and freedom.
“This action demonstrates the effectiveness of the joint MRF-SMRO team,” observed Tom Pauley, MRF President, “and the wisdom of our strategy.” Prior to the ruling, for example, MRF wrote to the Office of Management and Budget, laying out MRF’s many concerns about additional regulation of street motorcycles. The letter argued that the anticipated ruling did not adequately address our concerns on three fundamental fronts: economics (primarily small business impacts), broad public policy, and individual freedom.
“The fight is not over,” Mr. Pauley said, “but we have won an important victory and we must sustain the momentum.” MRF anticipates that EPA is heading back to the drawing board to issue a new proposal, possibly as early as November. That proposal will be followed by a public comment period. Important note: EPA may also hold public meetings on the street motorcycle proposal, as it calls for public meetings in its September 14 proposal on non-road engines. MRF will keep you informed as details become available.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON TO DONATE 30 POLICE MOTORCYCLES,$1 MILLION TO RELIEF EFFORT–
Harley-Davidson Motor Company is donating the use of 30 police motorcycles and $1 million to assist in the relief efforts in New York City and Washington, D.C. The motorcycles will be used to replace police motorcycles, squad cars and other police units that were destroyed following the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, Tuesday, Sept. 11. The Company?s $1 million donation will be made directly to the American Red Cross for use in the relief effort.
?We are all moved and saddened by the events of the past week and hope our contribution of police motorcycles and funds to the American Red Cross can in some way help with the relief effort,? said Jim McCaslin, President and Chief Operating Officer of Harley-Davidson Motor Company.?
Ten police motorcycles will be ridden to the New York City area from Milwaukee by Harley-Davidson employees and local police officers late next week. An additional 20 motorcycles will be delivered within the next two weeks to the New York area for use by the New York City Police Department and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey in their efforts.?
?We know that a number of law enforcement officers lost their lives coming to the aid of those involved in the tragedy and some of those were Motor Officers,? said McCaslin. ?Harley-Davidson has been producing police motorcycles since 1908 and we have a very strong bond with that group. Our hearts go out to all victims of the disaster, especially those within the law enforcement community. While we can never get back what has been lost, we?re hopeful that the police motorcycles will help law enforcement and Port Authority representatives move around the city and the devastated area with greater ease and convenience.?
?The Motor Company will also donate $1 million to the American Red Cross for use in New York and Washington,? said McCaslin.
Harley-Davidson is working alongside The Center for Public Safety at Northwestern University in order to make arrangements to offer priority training focused on developing a new class of Motor Officers in the New York / New Jersey area.
In addition, Harley-Davidson is encouraging its employees, dealers, owners and H.O.G. members to band together to raise funds for those affected by the disaster. Over the years, the extended Harley-Davidson family has raised funds for myriad causes by organizing rides across the country and around the world.?
?We have a tradition of raising funds through motorcycle rides,? said McCaslin. ?We have received hundreds of calls from our dealers and owners asking how they can help. We?ve asked them all to work together to raise funds for those affected by this tragedy.?
Whelen Engineering Company in Chester, CT is donating all emergency equipment on the motorcycles. Donated motorcycles include FLHTPI Electra Glide models, FLHPI Road King models and FXDP Dyna Defender models.

I’ll be weaving cargo nets on this Rickmers Tramp Freighter and sending my checks home to keep the joint afloat. Oh, I promise to drink rum, and finish my first Chance Hogan book and start another.

HORSE SPY REPORT–We have an informant within the ranks of HORSE mag and we taped this quote regarding one of their recent project bikes. Too bad the FBI didn’t have a couple of spies working the hills of Afghan.

LITTLE EDDIE’S COLUMN–This will be just another foe this country was forced to face.Just like the Bonzai Soldiers of Japan, and the fanatics of Nazi’s of Germany, and crazier than imaginable.I fear we must think “out of the box” on this one. As a society we have tried to behave, even in war, honorably and with a respect of humanity.I don’t believe we can have this policy in this case. Our hands cannot be tied.
It’s much like the “vendetta” mentality. If we don’t strike as hard as we can, our children and children’s children will live with this threat and will die at the hands of these people without conscience. We all know this. But can we live with it? I believe I can. One look into my Granddaughter’s sweet face and my heart goes cold to those that would take her life.
Remember one of the high-jacked planes had a two-year-old and a four-year-old on board, and people in the middle east danced in the streets over the deaths of these children. Yes, my heart is very cold.
We have at our disposal the means (and I don’t mean nuclear) to rid ourselves of this menace. It will take a combined effort of the entire free world. It will require heavy-handed tactics not usually used by us. But it’s the only way.
Our terrorist enemies and ALL their friends and supporters must be brought to their knees or put in their graves. All of them. No exceptions! Only then do we have a prayer of a life of safety and security. If we don’t fix this now we will be looking over our shoulder anywhere we go. Every flight, sports event or even your daily job will not be safe, Ever.

HEY MOTORCYCLING POLICE HISTORIAN–My name is is Buck Lovell. I am currently compiling photographs and material fora pictorial book to be titled “AMERICAN COP BIKE”. I have been gathering material and photos for more than 15 years, but can use any photos or other material pertaining to police motorcycle operational procedures for the period to 1904-to-1970. The book is in the final stages of pre-press at this time. I would like to request the loan of any photos or other relevant material. First person accounts about operational procedures from retired motor cops, training manuals or brochures, historical documents, and other would help me to present a well rounded perspective of the man and the machine.
As any motorcycle officer already knows, being a motor cop is exceedingly dangerous work. Of all historical categories, the motorcycle officer and the two-and three wheeledvehicles they rode are the most forgotten.
This book is attempt to portray the almost forgotten history of sacrifice and service made by thousands of police officers across the country. Getting paid to ride a motorcycle has it’s advantages, but the risk is enormous, the recognition minimal. Please send along any material you think would enhance this book, be it photos or other. Any Material loaned will be returned promptly after scanning. Whenever possible date and or caption photos for reference. The deadline for materials is August 32, 2001. BIKERNET AFGAN UNDER WORLD REPORT–The Afghanis are about as backward as they come. I worked over there about10 years ago after the Russian invasion, right near the border of Pakistanat the foot of the Kyber pass. These fucking people still rely on the useof camels and donkeys for travel and freight.
The country itself isn’t mucheither, mostly rocks and dirt. It kind of looks like the Mojave betweenBerdoo and Primm, Nevada, only without the pavement, high lines and traffic.Maybe a little rockier and certainly less vegetated. The vast majority ofthe people are ignorant, probably less than 25% literacy rate and they relyon the local “holy man” to keep them informed. They live in the 18thcentury at best and aren’t in a big hurry to catch up with the rest of theworld.
As far as the “jihad” that they have declared, it is rather hollow. Alittle like the Spanish Navy declaring war on the US Navy. They might dosome minor damage, but pretty much ineffective in the long run. Most oftheir arms are either captured Soviet AKs and RPGs plus the remnants of theUS equipment that we provided during their war with Russia. The mostdifficult thing about a war with them on their soil, is similar to what wefaced in Vietnam. A small cadre of very dedicated soldiers that are willingto throw rocks at attack helicopters to win. Plus, the terrain is veryharsh and rugged and more suited to guerrilla warfare.
As far as oil, there isn’t very much, despite all of the dollars that havebeen spent looking for it over there. They are a net importer and rely onthe goodwill of the other Arab states to meet their needs.
I agree, that we have been given all of the justification that we need toblast the mother fuckers back into the stone age. I have a pretty goodfeeling that we probably have Special Ops troops on the ground right nowlooking for targets of opportunity. But the bulk of the destruction of thenetworks and foot soldiers will have to be placed on the shoulders of USground troop (USMC), whom if given the opportunity and support will tearthem a new ass in short order. I just don’t want us to half-ass this deal.The president has the support of the American public, press and theCongress. Let’s just hope the peace-niks don’t fuck it up for him.

First, I want to pass on my condolences to the people of New York and all Americans that are hurting in this tragic time. You can rest assured that anything and everything that can be done to assure the safety of our country will be done. This is the greatest country in the world and we will get through this trying time. Now is the time for all people to set aside our petty differences and show the world that no one or nothing can destroy the fortitude of the American people.
To the people responsible for today’s tragedy, I say this:Are you fucking kidding me? Are the turbans on your heads wrapped too tight? Have you gone too long without a bath?
Do you not know who you are fucking with? Americans are so hungry to kill, that we shoot at each other every day. We will relish that opportunity for new targets for our aggression.
Ask your buddy Saddam about fucking with the good ‘ole USA. The only reason he got away the first time is because it’s too hard to shoot someone when you’re doubled over laughing at them. Our soldiers aren’t trained to laugh and shoot at the same time. Now he couldn’t stop a pack of cub scouts from taking over his shitty little country.
Trust us, Afghanistan will end up a giant kitty litter box. Go ahead and try to hide, Bin Laden. There’s not a hole deep enough or a mountain high enough that’s going to keep your camel riding asses safe. We will bomb every inch of the country that harbors him, his camps and any place that looks and even smells like he was there. Hell, we might even drop a few bombs on people that have pissed us off in the past. This is America. We kick ass. This is what we do. ?Smoke and ash still billows from the rubble that was once the crown jewels of the New York City skyline, and fire still seers through the heart of America?s military command post, which burns with a fury nearly as hot as most Americans? tempers at the time of this writing.
Like everything else unrelated to the terrorist attacks on American icons, the twin towers of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, motorcycling news is diminished in importance and relevance as our collective attention is focused on the tragic circumstances surrounding such despicable and reprehensible acts of cowardice.
As Americans we are shocked to discover that our envelope of security has been breached. ?As Americans, we are horrified with the prospect that foreign hostilities can nestle upon our shores, though the perpetrators remain hidden and protected in faraway retreats. ?As a free and open society, Americans are rightfully angry and understandably frightened about the prospect of such attacks on our own soil. ?And our American Pride will not allow us to let terrorist bullies win. ??
But, as Americans, are we willing to alter our way of life and sacrifice our civil rights in exchange for governmental protections that hinder our freedom in order to regain some peace of mind?
By doing so, wouldn?t this allow terrorism to dictate our national policy?
As the ashes settle on a dismayed America, this will be the topic of ongoing debate in the press, within our legislatures and around the water fountains of society. ??????????
As American Bikers, we have always come down on the side of personal choice and responsibility in lieu of the blanket of security offered by our self appointed protectors. ?
In the famous words of one of our founding fathers, Thomas Jefferson; ”Those who would trade essential Liberty for temporary security, deserve neither Liberty or Security.”

?Following is a note sent to the National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM) from Neil Liversidge, National Chairman of the Motorcycle Action Group of the United Kingdom (MAG-UK), on September 11, 2001, regarding the terrorist attacks on the United States of America:
”It is right that our leaders condemn this act of war. ?It is not, however, enough that only they do so. ?The enemies of democracy must know that not only do the political leaders of the free world have the will to resist and defeat terrorism, but that the ordinary people possess that same resolve.
”The perpetrators of this infamous crime should know that they are not merely opposed by a political elite but by hundreds of millions of ordinary and right-thinking people throughout the world. ?At this time, ordinary people everywhere should communicate to the citizens of the United States their solidarity and support, as well as their condolences for the many deaths and tragedies suffered. ?I offer mine. ?
”At the Federation of European Motorcyclists (FEMA) Rally in Belgium, the official MAG-UK presence will fly the star spangled banner of the United States alongside the Union Flag of the United Kingdom. ?By this we will demonstrate our support and solidarity for our American allies who are, like us, citizens of the free world.”

LOUISIANA APPROVES VETERAN?S MOTORCYCLE LICENSE PLATES
?Due to an oversight, R.S. 47:463.18(A) and (C)1 of the Louisiana Vehicle Code did not list motorcycles as a vehicle that was eligible to carry Veteran plates as cars and trucks can. ?At least that was the way things were before a retired Navy veteran motorcyclist tried to get plates for his bike.
”I proudly and honorably served my country for 24 years as a member of the United States Navy,” said Steve Howardell, a Life Member of ABATE of Louisiana. ?”I retired in 1999 having worked my way from enlisted into the officer ranks. ?After my retirement, I was rated by the VA at 50% disabled. ?But yet, with all this service and dedication to my country, I was not allowed to display my service and pride on my motorcycle as I can my truck plates. ?I decided that it was time for a change.”
Howardell contacted his local legislators, Representative Mike Strain of House District 74 and Senator Jerry Thomas of Senate District 12, and requested assistance to get this regulation amended. ?Both were more then willing to help and out of just a couple of e-mails was born House Bill-186 and Senate Bill-110. ?
Now came the waiting game.
”I became a true watcher of the political process as the bills moved from committee, to full House and Senate, and on to the other side of the fence. ?These two bills breezed though all committee and floor votes with one lone dissenter,” explained Howardell.
Finally, on 25 June 2001, both bills were signed into law by Governor Foster and officially became Act 658 (HB-186) and Act 676 (SB-110). ?The only remaining hoop to jump through is for 100 people to sign up for these plates as that is a requirement to get them minted. ?So, get the word out to your riding buddies in the Bayou State and let them know about the new Veterans? license plates.

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 4 – A judge dismissed nearly 300 tickets Tuesday issuedto drivers caught by cameras that record motorists running red lights,handing ammunition to opponents of such systems.
JUDGE RONALD STYN of San Diego County Superior Court said the camera evidence was inadmissible because a private corporation’s role in the operation of the system and its per-ticket collection of fees violatedstate law.
The ruling has no direct legal implications for similar red-light traffic systems in roughly 50 other cities in the nation. But lawyers for the motorists said other judges likely will take the ruling under consideration.
“It’s very limited, but his ruling will receive a lot of deference,” said Arthur Tait, one of three lawyers who represented the 292 driverswhose tickets were quashed Tuesday. “It’s the first time that a traffic courthas looked this closely at what is going on.”
The case originated when motorists banded together to fight the camera-issued tickets. The city is expected to appeal, but it has suspended use of the cameras pending a review prompted by complaints about the system’s accuracy.
The San Diego police department continues to support use of the cameras, which officials said have reduced red-light running an average of 45percent at the 19 intersections where they are installed. “I continue to believe that red light photo enforcement increases safety at intersections,” Police Chief David Bejarano said.
San Diego’s system, which snaps a photo of a red-light runner and mails a $271 citation to the registered owner of the vehicle, is thetarget of two civil lawsuits that could end the program and refund money to84,000 people who have received the tickets since 1998.
Affiliated Computer Services Inc. of Dallas has agreed to alter its system to comply with Styn’s ruling Tuesday, spokesman Mark Maddox said. Maddox said alternatives could include charging a flat rate to the city for installing the cameras.

This is the first chopped motorcycle the Art Director of HORSE magazine built in 1970. The fuzzy Polaroid pic of me is right after I bought it and I immediately put 10″ tubes on it and stripped the new lil’ Sporty tank all psycho delik with striping tape.

GUN BATTLE IN CALIFORNIA–Following is a report on the final week of the legislative session. I have a curious thought. We are allowed tools to fix things in our homes in case of emergencies. We are allowed fire extinguishers to put out fires, but they are trying to take guns away. Then we will have no tools if we are attacked. Seems I could sue my legislator if I was attacked and unable to protect my family because of his laws. I believe in education and training and as a young man I could not have a gun until I took the NRA course. Here’s the news–Bandit.

SB626 has just been amended to allow City Attorneys to have access to thestatefirearms registry to help them in civil suits against manufacturers,retailers,and potentially owners of firearms. This bill could be heard at any time.
SB 510 – The magazine and safety disconnect bill – mandates unreliable,non-existent technology that could cause firearms manufacturers to abandontheCalifornia marketplace. This bill could be heard at any time.

With all this recent hoopla about the new V-rod and TC 88’s and allthis super modern stuff, high revving, fake motorcycles, closer to the japcounterparts than the Harleys of past, all this futuristic features andavant garde designs, seems that the Company is changing, changing for theworst. Harleys appeal is based on it’s motorcycles, those Knucks, Pans andShovels, the style, the unrefined metals, pure iron. These bikes were notmade to appeal the crowds, these bikes will never be replaced, like hot rodsand muscle cars. Have you seen the new Impala ? The Nova? if you have youmight notice it’s not even a close copy of what those cars used to be.Technology has retarded the appeal of these vehicles. Give me a ’64 Impalaany day, keep the new one for car rentals. There’s nothing like an oldPanhead, (in any of its forms) even the Evo’s with their nostalgic lookswere acceptable. H-D’s mystique was born on those bikes, and now, shazam,the new V-max, oops, rod shatters the image. When I wanted an H-D for thefirst time, I wanted that bulky chunk of iron, the kickstart, the leakingengine, the unique rumble, in short the many things that made a Harley,Harley.
Now are the times of seeing gazillions of Softails, cookie cutter bikeswith tons of tasteless aftermarket parts, but there is something aboutchoppers, old Fl’s and any pre Evo bike that commands attention, thatreally makes them stand out in a sea of chrome barges, and let me tell ya,those are real bikes.
Same as you might drool over the newest of Ferraris,but a ’57 Corvette will make you mortage the house and sell the dogs. Maybeit’s because it’s part of what some people call Americana, of route 66 anddrive in cinemas, things that we like to have, mechanical wonders that haveendured the ages and senses of style, with a character that outlives anyfad, nationality or social status, most of this machines were the statusthen, as they are today. Maybe the company is going the wrong way. To someof us the future is not the answer, that’s the way I see it.
The second WCC chopper is on it’s way, we will post the steps here as werush to have it ready for Biketoberfestlots of long nights (and days ) will follow, will keep everyone posted.
We have heard that Manso’s motorcycle (one of our local shops) is moving toa bigger location a few buildings down from it’s present space, we want tocongratulate everyone there on the new shop.

TOTS REPORT FROM A RIDIN’ MARINE– I was shocked and outraged when I read the “Toys for Tots” e-mail beingforwarded around the biker community. Shocked that bikers would be criticalof the Marine Reservist donating countless hours of their time to collectand distribute toys for underprivileged children in their local community,and outraged at the out right lie that these toys were shipped over seas!
For the record, my name is James Watson. I have been the proud owner andenthusiastic rider of Harley-Davidson motorcycles since 1989. And, I evenknow, have ridden with, and partied with quite a few of the people I sawthis e-mail being passed around by.
I am also currently the Commanding Officer of the Marine Corps ReserveUnit in Tampa, Florida, and I can personally testify that none of the toyscollected by the Marine Corps Reserves leaves the local area in which it wascollected. In fact, in Tampa alone last Christmas we collected over 250,000toys, sorted them into stacks categorized by age and gender, andredistributed them to needy families. I’m sure it’s hard for any of you toeven begin to imagine the number of people and hours it took to accomplishthis feat. Especially since I don’t recall any of you busting your ass onyour day off helping us!
Before you criticize others who are doing a good deed perhaps each of youneed to look in the mirror and ask yourself, “when (if ever) was the lasttime I did an unselfish good deed for others in my community.” And no,buying one toy and going for a ride on your bike with your buddies does notqualify!
As for the fight that almost occurred over the toys that you claim to havepurchased to donate to a charity and then attempted to take back. I can onlysay that I am truly disappointed in the Marines for not kicking your ass.Although I must admit it must have taken quite a bit of restraint, and thatis impressive in itself. Personally, if I were leaving the Toys for Totsevent to go to the cancer center I would not be so damn cheap as to try tosteal a few of the toys donated in an effort to avoid spending a couple ofdollars on more toys for the children at the cancer center. Now to address the final issue of the name “Toys for Tots”. I am notfamiliar with the law suite the e-mail addressed; however, I do know thatthe Marine Corps Reserves has created a non-profit organization titled Toysfor Tots for legal/tax reasons to run the program nation wide, and has usedthe name for well over a decade. As for it being generic, you sir areincorrect. All the other biker toy runs, collection points, and events thatuse the name “Toys for Tots” donate the toys they collect from the event orcollection point to the Marine Corps Reserves program. The reason it appearsto have become so generic is because we have done such a fantastic jobcreating so many of these events throughout the county. This would accountfor the phenomenal number of toys we have collected and distributed to theunderprivileged. I have no idea how many toys we collected nation wide lastyear; however, I believe we have well over 300 reserve training centers inthe United States, and if my center collected over 250,000 toys alone…well you do the math!
Oh by the way, how many toys did you say you collected at your event? I donot recall reading a number.

MOTORCYCLE CONFISCATED–well it happened during the Laughlin river run thisyear. It was parked and locked in a casino parkinglot. The metro police from Nevada ran a check throughNCI and it came up stolen according to them. This bikehas been stopped before and the numbers ran and cameup clean. They say the #’s on the frame don’t match. Alawyer was retained and said to go to Vegas and pickit up well the cop that took the bike came roaring uphad him up against the car and accused him of knowingthe bike is stolen.
He said, “The nexttime you see this bike I’ll be riding it,” then added”I was just kidding” (covering his ass). It so happensa lawyer was needed for the motorcycle because that’swho the case is against not the owner. Is that unrealor what? Anyway I’ll have to get back to you with theother details and what’s happening now if anything.
