STEALTH BIKE WORKS BIKERNET REPORT–This past week we hung our security door in place at STEALTH BIKE WORKS. This door is too cool! My good friend “Chopper John” came up with this creation. The door weighs in at around 150 pounds! “Chopper John” is a wizard when it comes to metal and welding. He is our part time fabricator and we hope one day to make him full time. We plan on doing our windows the same as the door. The door is one of the coolest attractions at STEALTH BIKE WORKS to date and hopefully it will attract a lot of attention as to getting people to stop by the shop.

One thing I have noticed is our customer base is about 50-50, old school-new school. It is a learning curve as far as knowing what to have in stock and what not to have.

This weekend STEALTH BIKE WORKS heads to the June Jam Bike Show and Swap Meet. This will be our first event since we opened. Our # 1 priority is to advertise this weekend, to get the word out that we are open. The June Jam is located at the Rowan County Fairgrounds, the same location as the Horse Smoke-Out, June 24th and 25th. I know I told you about this last week but our first shop rides heads for the Smoke-Out at 12 noon June 25th. If you are in the area look us up and ride with us. SANTA MARIA MOTORCYCLE MADNESS SPONSORED BY HOT BIKE–The first stop on Horse Power Promotions Hot Bike Super Show Tour – The Hot Bike All American Motorcycle Madness, May 20th, 21st and 22nd – brought out thousands of custom bikes from the celebrated to virtually unknown builders from all over the West.

Thanks to Santa Maria Harley-Davidson, the weekend was jamming with non-stop motorcycle madness and entertainment from morning to evening: Live music, David Chaves Trials “rider extraordinaire,” Eddie Mulder?s Vintage Flat Track Racing in the Santa Maria Ford Arena, and of course the Mitch Bergeron bike build that was definitely the hottest and most well-attended spectacle at the show.

Mitch Bergeron and Johnny Chop worked passionately throughout the weekend building the dream bike with a Revtec motor, Jims Transmission, Mean Street front end, Ego Tripp wheels, and bolted it all to a Mitch Bergeron frame. MC Advantage and Havoc threw in some other necessary pieces. Lincoln Welders provided the tools for the build and Johnny and Mitch powered out one cool bike and gave it away to the show?s luckiest participant on Sunday at the awards ceremony. With Mitch and Johnny?s blood, sweat and tears in the state-of-the-art project bike, it no doubt will quickly become a collector?s dream.

In addition, other outstanding giveaways of the afternoon included a Titan motorcycle from GA Motorsports and a two-bike enclosed trailer from Central Coast Trailers, which put the value of the prizes at well over $100,000.

Out of over 150 vendors in the Motorcycle Madness Marketplace, dozens had record sales over the weekend. The most popular hang out in the Motorcycle Marketplace was the builders square where many of the country?s best builders such as Scott Long, Harold Pontarelli, Top Shelf, Lucky 7, Straight Jacket and Steve Van Morkhoven to name a few, all had booths and exhibited their latest creations.

Horse Power Promotions added indoor spaces for more shopping and chopping in the convention center. This is also where the ongoing Quick Throttle TV Show was filming with builder and vendor interviews.

The buzz from the over 15,000 attendees was directed to the bike show and the killer billet trophies by Ego Tripp and the Cycle Smith and Dakota Digital awards. The Bike show participants agreed that they were the best they had ever seen.

There was almost too much to do for a three-day weekend! With 2 poker runs, 33-acres of vendors, stunt show, Flat Track racing, and an annual After the Madness Maverick Party that allowed the locals to mix with the builders and share some sweet adult beverage. Speaking of sweet, Michele Smith, host of American Thunder was on hand and needless to mention, provided one of the more popular photo ops!

THAT’S A WRAP FOR THIS WEEK–I feel like a rider who broke down just before the Fresno Run. I’m helpless without my goddamn computer. Did you notice the stinkin’ ’54 Linclon. We’ll I’m signed up to be co-pilot in the LA Carrera PanAmerican race across Mexico with Dr. Hamster, one of my best buds. We’ve ridden to Sturgis, Arizona to bars and girl’s homes for decades. It’s a historic 2500 mile run from the bottom of Mexico in Oaxaco, to Laredo, Texas. Back in the ’50s these Linclons won the race, two years in a row, hands down. We’ll see in October how she runs again.

It’s never a dull moment around this crap house. Yesterday morning my computer crashed. It didn’t just crap out. It crashed big time. It’s toast, curtains, shot. So, first I must apologize if you hoped your item would be glorified in the news and didn’t make it. Second, I hauled it off to the doctor and prayed for surf. He ran tests all night long with no luck. Today he endeavored to save the data. My fingers are still crossed. Hence, the fuckin’ news is up late and it’s a short version.

Last weekend I attempted to ride my Panhead to Brad’s house. He’s a shipping crane mechanic and owns Harbor Kick-Boxing Dojo. He also owns a pristine 1965 Panhead and was having a problem with his clutch. I jumped my ’48 and headed in his direction until my throttle stuck on the dual Mikuni job. I made a left on Anaheim and ducked into a residential district. I shut it down and tinkered. The initial throttle cable was jammed. It was nearly dark and I didn’t have time to fuck with it alongside the street. I kicked it to life and the engine roared. I jammed it into second and let out the foot clutch. It was stuck at about 25 mph, so I feathered the clutch at stops and weaved toward home. I rolled passed the gate without ever stopping, shut ‘er off and rolled out the Road King. I stll made it in time for Thai food and bullshitting in the garage.

Let’s hit the news, then I’ll report on my Sturgis Update and bike project. I pick up the powder tomorrow, and then final construction begins:

TEN LEGISLATIVE UPDATE– Here is what happened today HB 456 which was our clean helmet bill was rolled until the first calendar in Budget in 2006.Tomorrow we have the Senate Version of the parade bill and the House version of the Bicycle Helmet Bill.John will update me on these bills as soon as he knows something on the bills that are being heard tomorrow.We have made some huge strives this year we have made new friends and we start next year exactly where we left off in budget committee so we are already ahead of the game for 2006. Penn DOT REPORTS THAT HIGHWAY DEATHS WERE DOWN IN 2004–HARRISBURG: Highway deaths in Pennsylvania dropped to 1,490 last year,87 fewer than 2003 when 1,577 people lost their lives on the Commonwealth’sroads, according to State Transportation Secretary Allen D. Biehler, P.E.

According to PennDOT statistics, the number of alcohol-relatedfatalities decreased from 558 in 2003 to 542 last year.

To be more consistent with how the federal government reports crashstatistics, PennDOT included police, coroner, hospital and actualblood-alcohol content reports to indicate an alcohol-related fatality. From2001 to 2003, PennDOT used only police reports to indicate alcohol-relatedfatalities.

The number of motorcyclists killed dropped to 157 last year from 171in 2003. Additionally, the number of pedestrians killed dropped to 151 lastyear from 175 in 2003.

Fatalities that resulted from speeding dropped to 250 last year from270 in 2003. PennDOT also changed how this number is reported to be moreconsistent with federal crash reporting. For 2004, PennDOT dropped drivingtoo fast for conditions and fleeing a police officer from the speedingcategory, which now only includes actual speeding.

Unbuckled fatalities dropped significantly to 578 last year from 623in 2003. Since 2000, PennDOT has allocated over $14 million in federal fundsto state and local police agencies to conduct special enforcement events andeducation aimed at increasing seat belt use. Pennsylvania’s current seatbelt use rates stands at 82 percent, compared to roughly 71 percent in 2000.

Heavy truck-related fatalities dropped to 183 last year from 214 in2003. Also, aggressive driving played a role in 868 fatalities last year,up 10 from 2003. Aggressive driving includes factors such as speeding,fleeing police, careless passing and tailgating.

I had two telephone interviews this afternoon with the Patriot News(Harrisburg, PA) and the Tribune-Review (Pittsburgh, PA) concerning theofficial PennDOT statistics that were released today. I stressed to thereporters that Motorcycle helmets do not prevent accidents, education ofmotorcycle operators and other road users are the key to saving more lives.

I was told by one reporter that the breakdown of the numbers is this:
70 – Helmetless
73 – With Helmets
2 – Improper Helmets (non-DOT)
6 – Helmets worn improperly
6 – unknown

I was also asked to comment about how in 2003 helmetless m/c fatalities were37 compared to 70 in 2004. I declined to comment on those numbers andexplained that on September 4, 2003 was when we gained our freedom here inPA and that meant that there was only 4 months of freedom that year comparedto 12 full months in 2004. Not only that, but the 4 months of freedomincluded 2 months that the majority of PA bikers didn’t ride in, therefore thenumbers were meaningless statistics.

If we wanted to, we could say that 37×3=111 vs. the 70 fatalities thatactually occurred. That would indicate a 37% decrease in helmetless deathsfrom 2003 to 2004.

I’ll give you a brief rundown: The charity efforts are to support the Crazy Horse Monument in the Black Hills. We leave from Phoenix on Wednesday the 3rd of August and ride along warm twisting highways, ducking interstates wherever possible to Durango, Colorado for the night. Then it’s up Thursday morn and down the terrific mountain roads into Aspen, Colorado for the night. Both these towns are knock-outs for terrific restaurants and nightlife. Friday morning we cut a dusty trail north again into Cheyenne and we’re almost home. Saturday we meander up killer roads into the Badlands and Deadwood, but we won’t stop until we reach the Full Throttle Saloon for our first party of the Rally.

Each day will cover 250-300 miles so we’ll roll into town in time to hang out by the pool, hit the gym, shop in town then have a killer meal.

DAYTONA BEACH GOOD COP GONE BAD ROGUE REPORT — A former Edgewater police officer will get a different prosecutor when he faces a new trial for a shooting death during an early-morning fight.However, 45-year-old Ronald Robbins won’t get a prosecutor from a different judicial circuit, said Circuit Judge Julianne Piggotte, who ruled Wednesday that Robbins doesn’t have enough legal ground to bar other attorneys who work in the local circuit under State Attorney John Tanner.

Robbins’ attorney, Paul Kwilecki Jr., argued Wednesday that the new trial on his second-degree-murder charge should be handled by a different circuit because local prosecutors mishandled the first trial and prejudiced the jury.Though Kwilecki’s request was denied, he was relieved to know that the local prosecutor who handled the first trial, Assistant State Attorney Bryan Feigenbaum, won’t be handling the new trial. The homicide division of the State Attorney’s Office will prosecute.However, the motion heard Wednesday was the latest in a case full of bizarre twists.

Robbins, who served on the Edgewater Police Department from 1987 to 2002, was convicted in May 2003 of the shooting death of 22-year-old Jason Starkey. According to records, Starkey and Robbins fought outside a Daytona Beach dry-cleaning business about 4:50 a.m. Sept. 22, 2002.Starkey was killed from a single gunshot wound to the back, and during the trial Robbins argued that the shooting happened in self-defense.Starkey was a murder suspect in the death of a cross-dressing male prostitute, and Robbins’ former lover was acquitted of charges she tried to have Feigenbaum killed.

The 5th District Court of Appeal overturned Robbins’ guilty verdict in December, ruling that Robbins didn’t get a fair trial.

The appellate court ruled that Feigenbaum got improper testimony during the trial and made improper remarks during closing arguments for which the trial judge should have declared a mistrial.

The improper testimony and the improper remarks focused on whether Robbins didn’t mention to police that Starkey had a knife. Such remarks by a prosecutor are prohibited because Robbins has a right to remain silent, the appellate court ruled.

COMMITEE REJECTS MOTORCYCLE HELMET BILL– AUGUSTA, Maine — A strong majority of a legislative committee has voted to kill a bill to make motorcycle helmets mandatory in Maine, decreasing its chances of passage after it reaches the House and Senate.

Nine members of the Transportation Committee voted Thursday to reject the bill, while three voted to recommend its passage. One member went with a third alternative, to make helmets mandatory until a motorcyclist turns 21.

Organized motorcyclists have helped to keep Maine a no-helmet state for years. The current bill is the first of its kind in the state since 1989. State law does require helmets for passengers under 15 and motorcyclists with only a learner’s permit or operators who have had their motorcycle license for less than a year.Proponents cite a rising number of motorcycle deaths in recent years as justification for a helmet law.

MAYFIELD VILLAGE, Ohio – What can you tell about a person by the kind of motorcycle they ride? Plenty, according to a recent countrywide online survey conducted by The Progressive Group of Insurance Companies, the number one seller of motorcycle insurance in the U.S. The survey finds interesting differences – and similarities – between Harley-Davidson riders and those who ride sport bikes.

For example, everyone knows that Harley riders wear their passion for biking on their sleeve? literally. The survey finds Harley riders are three times more likely than those who ride sport bikes to own clothing or artwork that displays the brand of motorcycle they ride (93 percent versus 30 percent, respectively). Harley riders are also more likely to have body art such as tattoos and piercings (52 percent versus 40 percent).

The survey also finds that Harley riders are more likely than those who ride sport bikes to plan rides around where they’ll eat (32 percent versus 23 percent). Sport bike riders are three times more likely to eat at fast-food restaurants (18 percent versus six percent), while riders of Harleys are nearly four times more likely to pick restaurants with the nicest looking waiters/waitresses (11 percent versus three percent).

“At Progressive, many of us involved in our motorcycle business are riders, too, and this survey was a fun, tongue-in-cheek way of getting to know more about our fellow bikers,” says Rick Stern, a rider for more than 15 years and one of Progressive’s motorcycle product managers. “Motorcycle insurance is a very specialized product, and you never know what bit of information may lead to the next insurance innovation.”

The survey confirms that both rider groups have much in common, too. For example, both say “freedom” is the number one reason they ride. And though sport bikes are commonly known as “crotch-rockets” or “road-rippers,” only six percent of those who ride them say they do so for “speed” while fewer than one percent of Harley riders say the same. Both groups listed the same top excuses for justifying a quick ride: running errands, testing the engine and visiting friends.Progressive’s survey also finds that ninety-five (95) percent of all riders acknowledge their fellow bikers while riding. Waving is the preferred method of acknowledgement (37 percent), although Harley riders are nearly twice as likely to acknowledge other riders by pointing two fingers down (29 percent versus 16 percent). Harley riders are six times more likely to only acknowledge those riding the same style bike (18 percent versus three percent).

Additional survey results include:
? An overwhelming majority of riders (88 percent) donate time or money to charities. Two-thirds of Harley riders (67 percent) and one-third of those who ride sport bikes (33 percent) participate in at least one charity ride each year.
? Sixty-nine (69) percent of all riders daydream at work each day about riding their bike.
? Eighteen (18) percent of all riders call in sick to work at least once a year to go riding.
? Women prefer to ride with their significant other (58 percent), while men choose to ride with their friends (63 percent).

On the other hand, sport bike riders are more likely to use disposable income to buy something for their significant others (46 percent versus 39 percent).

The first thing women riders will do with disposable income is buy a gift for their kids (40 percent), while men will first buy something for their significant other (43 percent).

Street Saluting
Ninety-five (95) percent of all riders acknowledge other bikers while riding. Waving is the preferred method of acknowledgement (37 percent), although Harley riders are nearly twice as likely to acknowledge other riders by pointing two fingers down (29 percent versus 16 percent).

Harley riders are twice as likely to spend one to five hours a week taking care of their bike than they are to spend the same amount of time with their kids (58 percent versus 24 percent).

Forty-nine (49) percent of sport bike riders spend one to five hours a week riding – more than three times the percentage of those who spend that much time with their kids (14 percent).

Gender Says A Lot
Women prefer to ride with their significant other most often (58 percent), while men prefer riding with their friends (63 percent).

It’s A Group Thang
Women are more likely than men to ride in a group (35 percent versus 25 percent).

When asked with whom they ride most often, 55 percent of sport bike riders say their friends, compared to 44 percent of Harley riders. Thirty-nine (39) percent of Harley riders say they ride most often with their significant other, compared to 33 percent of those who ride sport bikes.

Most riders buy extras for their bike (86 percent). Harley riders are twice as likely to spend more than $1,000 a year on extras for their bike (24 percent versus 12 percent).

Held in Stuart, Florida in April of this year, the second of two Shovelhead shows held within a five year span went over so well that people are clamoring for another!

Produced by our own Katmandu and the friends of Linda Madernini, whose husband Bruce passed away way too soon, brought together over 500 people, raised over $5500 dollars and had 54 entries in the Shovelhead Only show ring.

Bikers, real chopper and antique freaks, came from all over South and Central Florida. Buster came up from Homestead however, he didn’t win the Blonde. He brought along a glorious red Flathead and his own black and white early sixties stocker. There were limited classes, stock and custom for FLH and FXE, chopper and naturally, Rat.

The biggest class and majority of the bikes in the ring were the FLH stockers like Buster’s. Man, it was a hard show to win and even harder to judge. However, the judges had résumé’s of their own and definably knew what they were looking at. Senior bike builder and top Grampa in these parts, Lou Falcigno stepped up and was eager to do his bit. Nicky Bootz, former wrench and Wildman of Choppers Inc, came down from Melbourne and brought along a bud, another shop owner, Wayne. These three guys had the difficult task of awarding trophies to the phenomenal motorcyclists in the parking lot.

People arrived early, stayed late and one of those was the ‘66 ice blue and white Best of Show sled. The grand dame of Shovelheads tore up the competition and turned everyone’s heads. Owners were just happy to place in this show since there were only 18 trophies, first through third places, and one for best Rat!That honor went to a mixed up bondo gray and blue beast originally from Pennsylvania and riding in with the Melbourne tribe. The event was graced with the presence of Smitty, SPIRAT owner and old cool biker dude on his funky rigid Knucklehead.

Door prizes took over on hour and half to give out with the guy in the wheel chair taking the USA leather jacket, donated by Nextran MACK Truck Center where Bruce was a parts manager. The Blonde and the Squirrel did an exceptional job of selling door prize tickets that everyone wanted to chip in for. You gotta watch the little women! They got the money!

The food concession, organized by Debbie Ritchie and Tony Hymes, co-workers of Linda’s, and manned by son-in-law Mighty Mike raised over a thousand dollars in sales and gave away more than a few free beers with the lunch plate. Bruce’s daughter Marina was 7 months pregnant and flipped plates and potato salad, as the lines remained constant all day.

The bar hosting the event was our second choice, since Shea’s pulled out after property management disputes. Cruiser’s has changed ownership again and new owners Tim Blakslee and Julian Copsley were more than overwhelmed at the attendance. The bar left us down by not getting a special event permit for the event with months of in-touch preparation.

When the City of Stuart PD showed up, they had a lengthy telephone conversation with Tim and left the bar. However, they harassed the two vendors we had and closed them both down due to not having City of Stuart Occupational Licenses to sell a product. We had to sacrifice two of our own for the good of the fundraiser. This was a bummer in the beginning, a debasement for Katmandu who thought the bar was on the same page and later proved to all of us that you don’t need shopping when there’s motorcycle heritage, tradition and artwork to look at.

The show was a way for us to send our brother Bruce off, to blaze across the universe, after a nasty six-month battle with pericardial cancer. It was a way to shower Linda with love after the loss of her soul mate, her best friend and husband of 31 years. It is the original grounds of all benefits. It’s about back to our roots, to be there, in sickness and in health, with or without bands or vendors, to raise a rebel yell and send a brother home to the silently beautiful cloud canyons of Harley Heaven.

We’re going to miss Bruce’s mellow presence and moral support for all biker community events from the AOA to the Tattoo shows in these parts. He rode above us this day, kept the rains away and smoked the day away with great bikes, great people and lots and lots of donations, the generous form of our own brotherly love.

The family has set up a contribution fund through the Common Ground Vineyard Church. Bruce loved the outdoors, an avid salt water fisherman, so its only fitting for a Bruce Madernini Children’s Camp Fund where monies will help send an inner city kid to summer camp. Ironically, Bruce’s own 1980 FLH dressed in original blue on blue paint took home the People’s Choice award at the last show in 2000. That event was for a local halfway house director, also struck with cancer. This show surpassed all and any expectations!

It was for the local boys, the character and foundation in all we do every day.ALL the local motorcycle shops donated a door prize and many more were brought to the event by people whose lives had been touched by Bruce and Linda. Motorcyclists have Capitol idea–
Riders lobby for changes to law on helmet wear, insurance coverage

AUSTIN – The roar of motorcycles outside the Texas Capitol on Monday was matched by the cheers of hundreds of leather-clad riders inside.Since then, five states ? Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Texas and Pennsylvania ? relaxed their motorcycle helmet requirements, according to the NCSL.

The bikers, who stood and yelled loud and long when they were introduced to House members, were in town to push for several changes to current laws involving motorcyclists.

“We elected these officials,” said Bill Walker, a rider from Irving. “We came down to make sure they know that they are working for us. We sent them here.”The riders came to Austin to urge lawmakers to repeal provisions in Texas’ current helmet law that say riders over age 21 are not required to wear a helmet as long as they have a $10,000 insurance policy or have taken a rider safety training course.

Opponents complain that police officers and judges across the state don’t know the law, resulting in riders who meet those requirements getting tickets anyway.

“We have been working on getting this changed for years,” said Sputnik, chair of the Texas Motorcycle Rights Association, who does not use a last name.Sputnik said it is especially a problem in smaller towns, where the laws are not as well-known. He said if the amendments are not repealed this session, riders will start filing civil lawsuits against the state claiming infringement on their civil rights.

“They can’t be giving us tickets when we are legal,” he said.Other riders said the choice to wear a helmet should be entirely up to each rider and the legislators shouldn’t have anything to say about it.

“Helmets can be dangerous, too,” said Adolf Aguirre, a rider from Austin. “You can’t hear. You can get whiplash.”

Several of the riders said the insurance requirement is pointless because after an accident, many insurance companies refuse to pay because riding a motorcycle is considered a “hazardous act.”

“If we get drunk and pile up our cars, insurance is going to cover us even though it is illegal to drink and drive,” said Wesley Brown, a rider in Austin. “But they won’t cover us.”

Sputnik said his group also wants to get a bill passed to force insurance companies to cover motorcycle riders. He said the association has not found a legislator to sponsor that yet.

“Last session, we tried this and couldn’t even get a committee hearing,” he said. “So we want to work with the head of the insurance committee to cover all of our bases first.”

The riders also are lobbying for a “failure to yield” law. The current fine is anywhere from $25 to $100 if a driver fails to yield the right of way and causes a wreck that results in serious bodily injury to another driver. Riders claim motorcyclists get hurt more in such situations and that drivers often leave the scene.

Sputnik said his association is asking for the fine to be increased to $500, with the money going into a safety and awareness fund. Also, the group wants a 90-day driver’s license suspension for the first offense and a one-year suspension for the second offense.Riders in several Texas cities also are fighting to get motorcycle crossing signs put up on streets and highways.

“They put up signs for ducks and deer but not for bikers,” said Bert Brown, a rider from San Antonio. “They even have them for turtles, but not for us.”

ALMONDS–A tour bus driver drives with a bus full of seniors down a highway when a little old lady taps him on his shoulder. She offers him a handful of almonds, which he gratefully munches up.

After about 15 minutes, she taps him on his shoulder again and gives him another handful of almonds. She repeats this gesture about eight times.

The ninth time, he asks the little old lady why she doesn’t eat the almonds herself; whereupon she replies it’s not possible because her old teeth won’t allow her to chew the nuts.

Police search for ‘Biker MD’ repair truck–SAN RAMON – Police are trying to find out what happened to a 28-foot-long step-van truck outfitted with all the machinery and tools to perform motorcycle repairs.

Tom Mueller, owner-operator of the San Ramon-based Biker MD, told police his truck was stolen sometime between 9:30 p.m. Monday and 7:30 a.m. Tuesday from a lot behind the Outpost Casino on San Ramon Valley Boulevard.

The 1983 truck, a reconditioned former Mac Tools delivery truck, contained some $30,000 in tools and machines to do a wide range of motorcycle repairs. The truck was designed to bring the services to the customers, Mueller said; several East Bay police departments that use motorcycles were clients, he said. Biker MD officially started business in August.

“We’re guessing the people who stole the truck are motorcyclists who want to set up their own shop,” said Mueller, a 16-year San Ramon resident. The timing of the theft was bad, too, he said; Spring is when bikers typically start getting out more, joining clubs, making long touring rides.

“This has really screwed up my life,” he said.

State liquor board weighs Hudson club’s fate–

CONCORD Town officials say it’s a magnet for motorcycle gangs, but the owner of The Zone Entertainment Complex in Hudson says he is just trying to run an honest business.

The State Liquor Commission is deciding whether to revoke the club’s license. Investigators say the place is a hangout for Hell’s Angels and they accuse former employees of instigating a double shooting between rival bikers who wandered into the club in August. Police say shutting down The Zone would improve public safety.

In pleading the case for his license, Zone owner David Daigneault said, “We haven’t had one gang member come in since the shooting.”

“For the past several months The Zone has been a quiet establishment,” Whitney said. “He is a contentious, faithful man whose livelihood is at stake.”

Gendron said his department responded to The Zone 34 times since the club opened in January 2004. Some of those calls were the results of what he called “directed patrols,” in which officers were instructed to enter the club and determine if intoxicated patrons were being served alcohol.

Daigneault pleaded with the commission to give him another chance to prove his trustworthiness.

The commission is expected to make a decision within the next three weeks.

BIKE-BUILDING TREND-CUSTOM MOTORCYCLES ALL THE RAGE BY OUT OF REACH FOR AVERAGE JOE–You’ve probably seen them on the roads in the past week: custom motorcycles. They stand out from the bike crowd because they’re taller (or shorter), longer, louder, flashier and more powerful than most bikes.

They cost between $28,000 and $250,000. They’re usually not comfortable to ride for long. So why are customized bikes so popular?

Looks, say bikers and builders.

Buyers can decide – part by part, upholstery to paint job – how they want their bikes built. The resulting individualized look gets attention.

“A custom motorcycle is a personalized vehicle. Everybody wants a personalized vehicle,” said Gary Woodford of Milwaukee Iron, a custom motorcycle shop in Lynchburg, Va., that is featured in a TV series called “Southern Steel” on The Discovery Channel.

“A lot of guys use it as a status symbol,” said bike builder Kendall Johnson of Winston-Salem, N.C., who also has been featured on the Discovery Channel.

“The men are buying them to catch the women. Then the women catch the men and make them sell the bikes,” Woodford said with a grin.

You won’t catch Eddie Smith of Smithville, N.C., on a one-of-a-kind chopper any time soon. He checked out some high-end custom bikes at SBB Four Corners earlier this week.

“You pay $65,000, and you can’t get parts,” Smith said. “We call them barhoppers. You ride from one place to another and have people look at it. … I’d love to have it, but $65,000? Whew, that’s a lot of money.”

Smith said the bikes were fun to ogle but not affordable for most people. “The average guy, he does good to get a $25,000 Harley,” he said.Even Woodford seemed a bit amazed and amused at how expensive custom bikes have become.”I always say if I was going to pay that much money for something, it better have a front door,” Woodford said.

Woodford and other builders explained that parts, paint and labor make up a large chunk of a custom bike’s cost. Parts can cost $30,000; paint, up to $10,000; machine-shop labor can run $100 an hour.

Two types of custom bikes are choppers, which have with high handlebars and long front ends, and pro street bikes, which are are extra-low and sleek – they look like a cat about to pounce on its prey – with fat tires.

Choppers reached their heyday in the ’60s and ’70s, bike builders said, and got their start when bikers began removing parts to subtract weight, moving parts around and adding parts to their Harley-Davidsons.

As there were few places to buy motorcycle parts, bikers built their own, to their own tastes.

“It was more of an outlaw-type thing,” said Randy Simpson, founder and president of Milwaukee Iron. “You weren’t socially acceptable, and you didn’t want to be.”

I talked withMarina’s boss who also works at the same hospital that Dewey is at inFarmington. He apparently had an aneurism in his brain that ruptured and isin surgery at the moment. I haven’t known Dewey for very long but I have been talking to him over thelast few months and working with him some on his web site and helping himwith some of his other graphic art needs as his business has grown. A friend of mine stopped by, I won’t use his name to protect his identity, he said” You may not make much money, but what you make will be yours.” So that is how I look at this. I never opened STEALTH BIKE WORKS with the intention of getting rich. If the money comes it does, if it does not, it doesn’t. As long as we make a living at it, that is cool with me. I opened the shop because it has always been my dream and I wanted to open a shop with heart and soul and a shop that would reflect the biker life style. BIKERNET LEGAL ADVICE–A very successful lawyer parked his brand new Lexus in front of the office, ready to show it off to his colleagues. As he got out, a truck came along and ripped off the driver’s door of the Lexus.

“Ninety-eight.” she replied.

“Mrs. Jones, would you please come down in front and tell us all how a person can live ninety-eight years and not have an enemy in the world?”

The little sweetheart of a lady tottered down the aisle, faced the congregation, and said: “I outlived the bitches.”

GRAND STRAND MOTORCYCLE EVENTSNAACP– rallies to demand equal treatment of bikersOrganization launches Operation Bike Week Justice.

National and local leaders of the NAACP challenged residents Thursday to report and protest racial discrimination during the Atlantic Beach Bikefest.

The civil rights organization held a rally at Myrtle Beach City Hall to announce a hot line to file complaints as part of what is being called Operation Bike Week Justice, asking residents to hold Myrtle Beach’s government accountable for “discriminatory practices” and hold Mayor Mark McBride responsible for his statements about black bikers.

“We are here to demand equal treatment and first-class citizenship for all tourists that visit Myrtle Beach, for all African-American visitors to the beach,” said Angela Ciccolo, interim general counsel for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. “We are here to let Myrtle Beach know that the eyes of the world are watching and will be watching for the next several weeks.”

The fight over the traffic plans for the two bike rallies is the latest round in the NAACP’s effort to stop what it calls discrimination in South Carolina. The 2000 dispute over the Confederate flag led to an NAACP boycott of the state, and multiple lawsuits were filed surrounding the Grand Strand’s May bike rallies against restaurants, a hotel and the city.

What happened

A federal appeals court refused Thursday to expedite a hearing on the city’s bike-rally traffic plans.

Officials from the NAACP held a rally to announce Operation Bike Week Justice.

What’s next

NAACP leaders will monitor the two rallies over the next two weeks.

Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals will consider the city’s appeal of a U.S. District Court ruling that ordered the city to use the same traffic patterns for both rallies. The appeals court has issued a stay on that ruling, allowing the city to use different traffic plans.

ROGUE will be attending the run to honor his friend and brother and to also display the award “PAPPY” received.

MYRTLE BEACH WRAP-UP–Despite the large numbers that turned out for the event, there were few problems with road congestion as bikers returned home Sunday during the last day of the Carolina Harley-Davidson Dealers Association Myrtle Beach Rally.

S.C. Highway Patrol officers said they think the larger crowd remaining in the area for a longer period of time contributed to a higher death toll than last year’s rally. The rally is estimated to have attracted close to 300,000 participants, some who began arriving May 13.

A New York resident involved in a wreck Sunday morning became the fifth person to die during the rally.There were three deaths total during the May Harley and Atlantic Beach Bikefest rallies last year, compared with 15 for the two events in 2003.

Sunday’s crash at 10th Avenue North and Robert M. Grissom Parkway was the first fatality associated with the rally in Myrtle Beach, police Sgt. Harry Rogers said.

In 2003, there were 13 fatal crashes in Myrtle Beach during the two back-to-back biker events.

Horry County had reported a total of 120 motorcycle wrecks as of 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Horry County spokeswoman Lisa Bourcier said.

Myrtle Beach police issued 1,294 tickets by Sunday, said Capt. David Knipes, spokesman for the department. At least 853 people were arrested.

The police and fire departments had a total of 3,996 calls for service, Knipes said.As the Harley-Davidson rally wound to a close on Sunday, few traffic problems were reported.The bikers left the beach at different times and were not stuck in traffic jams, area police said.

“It seems that everybody has either left town or is in the process of leaving,” said Mike Shumate, a supervisor with the North Myrtle Beach Police Department.”There have been no major tie-ups,” he said.

CRAZY HORSE TO LIGHT UP BADLANDS NIGHTS– Ruth Ziolkowski has high hopes for a new program that people can see this summer and fall at Crazy Horse Memorial.”It will be the story of Crazy Horse the man (and) Crazy Horse the memorial,” she said. “It will be a thank-you to the Indian people for the many gifts they have given us. It will be a little bit of the story of the family and the sculptor and of the future of the Crazy Horse project and the Indian people.”

“It” is the “Legends in Light” multimedia program, beginning this Memorial Day weekend. The side of the mountain on which the sculpture is being carved will become a screen hundreds of feet tall onto which laser light outlines, still slides, animation/video and colored lights are projected, all accompanied by music.

Ziolkowski, chief executive of the Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation and the widow of sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski, hopes that the program, described as “laser light storytelling,” will serve as reconciliation, education and entertainment.

The program will begin at 9 p.m. each night from Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, through Labor Day. The foundation hopes to continue the program through October at an earlier start time. The entire program is about an hour long.

In addition to outlining the shape of the completed sculpture, the laser lights will project various figures such as an American flag and bald eagle onto the mountain. Ziolkowski said “the laser feature was most popular” when the memorial presented a shorter multimedia trial show during the 2003 Sturgis motorcycle rally.

INSPIRED BY BTR3–NEW FRAME FROM GOLDHAMMER– RESPONDING to interest generated by winning the first annual Official Championship of Custom Bike Building, Goldammer Cycle Works is now offering a frame inspired by its winning bike – the BTR3.

The frame is of single-loop design, in 1/8 wall DOM tubing fabricated by Tig-welding. The rear end is rigid (unlike the Softail-style BTR3) and features tapered tubes turned from 1/4in wall tube.

Frame geometry follows a 34-degree neck rake with a 1in stretch in the downtubes and a 2-in forward stretch. The frame can be built into different styles based on the two options for the rear end. The alternative configurations accept either a 120-series tire in 21in or 23-in diameters or an 18-in x 200 tire. REVOLUTION SPEED CUSTOM OFFERS CUSTOM CARBON-FIBER FRAMES–The initial idea came from the founders’ observation that the V-twin industry had advanced in all areas except that of frame design, which had remained essentially the same for many years.

TWO BIKERNET STAFF MEMBERS INDUCTED IN STURGIS–2005 FREEDOM FIGHTERS ANNOUNCED–First Ball was announced and now Rogue. The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame is proud to announce the 2005 Freedom Fighters Hall of Fame Inductees, John “Rogue” Herlihy (CT), and Simon Milward (UK).

The Freedom Fighters Hall of Fame recognizes the commitment and sacrifices individuals across the nation, and world, have made to protect the rights of those who ride. In their honor the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame established the nation?s first and only Freedom Fighters Hall of Fame.

John “Rogue” Herlihy has been involved in motorcyclists rights for over 30 years and continues his efforts today. As a leader in the Connecticut Motorcycle Association, Rogue tackled the state?s helmet law fight in the 70?s. He went on to help defeat the first national helmet law, HB 3869 in 1975, a fight that solidified motorcyclists’ rights in this country and was the imputes for the powerful grass roots movement that still exists today.

Simon Milward left his lucrative job in 1989 to concentrate on something he believed in and began his full time career working for the interest of motorcyclists with the Motorcycle Action Group United Kingdom. In 1992 Simon established the Brussels headquarters of the Federation of European Motorcyclists and became its General Secretary. It is entirely due to his leadership and tireless efforts that bikers were among the first citizens to benefit from the democratic changes of the Maastrict Treaty. FEM became the Federation of European Motorcyclists Association, which today boasts 22 national riders rights organizations from 18 European countries.

Both inductees will be honored at the annual Sturgis Hall of Fame Induction Breakfast, Wednesday, 10 August, at the Holiday Inn in Spearfish, South Dakota.

Members from a variety of S&S dealers, distributors, and OE manufacturer dealers make up this new group to provide valuable input to S&S Cycle as they continue to be an industry leader.

Representatives from the following companies include: Arlen Ness Daytona, Hal’s Harley-Davidson, Lifestyle Custom Cycles, Biker’s Choice, CCI, Drag Specialties, Custom Hawg (dealer for American Iron Horse), Gateway Thunder (dealer for Big Dog Motorcycles), and Bourget’s New York (dealer for Bourget’s Bike Works).

This committee will hold quarterly meetings, including two conference calls and two face-to-face meetings throughout the year. The first teleconference meeting took place on May 9, 2005 and the next scheduled meeting will take place at the S&S Customer Support Center in La Crosse , Wisconsin on July 8, 2005. S&S PRO STOCK ENGINES PROVING SUCCESSFUL AT THE TRACK– The S&S 160″ Pro Stock Motorcycle engine is proving to be a success at the track during this drag racing season. Ryan Schnitz on the Muzzy’s Performance, S&S powered Buell won the Pontiac Performance Nationals this past weekend in Columbus , Ohio while Chris Rivas aboard the Mohegan Sun, S&S powered Buell was the runner up the weekend before at the Summit Racing Southern Nationals in Atlanta , GA.

This past weekend, two NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle teams using the S&S power plant made it to the semi-final round. Chip Ellis, of G Squared Motorsports, was defeated by Ryan Schnitz of Muzzy’s Performance. Schnitz advanced to the finals defeating the Screamin’ Eagle V-Rod ridden by Andrew Hines to take his first NHRA Pro Stock victory.

G Squared Motorsports, Inc., owned by George Bryce and George Smith, is the exclusive distributor of S&S Cycle Proven Performance racing engines and components. G Squared has been very successful working with new teams and expects to bring more teams on-board with the S&S power plant before the 2005 National Hot Rod Association season concludes. G Squared has devoted much of their time and effort to assist the new teams, which has delayed completion of their own updated 2005 bike until later this year. Nevertheless, Chip Ellis is 8th in the national point standings, only 110 points behind the leader in what is shaping up to be a very competitive drag racing season.

AMERICAN MOTORCYCLE 1902 LAUNCHES NEW VENTURE WITH EXCITING EVENT HELD IN OHKAY CASINO, SAN JUAN PUEBLO, NEW MEXICO —American Motorcycle 1902, the Ohkay Casino in Espanola, New Mexico, and Renegade Rally?s launched the riding season with their inaugural motorcycle event this past weekend, “Ohkay Casino’s Renegade Bike Rally 2005”, with several thousand motorcycle enthusiasts in attendance. Located between Santa Fe and Taos, New Mexico the Ohkay Casino is a great kick off spot for rides into the majestic New Mexico mountains, and what better way to make that trek that to stop for the Renegade Bike Rally held this past weekend, May 21-22. American Motorcycle is one of the oldest vintage motorcycle brands in the USA. It was first established in 1902?one year after Indian and one year before Harley-Davidson. The motorcycle manufactured by the original company and proudly bearing the American marquee was considered to be the best hill climber of its time; ?power and beauty? were two words often used to describe these classic motorbikes. The original American Motor Cycle Co. ceased production of its motorcycles in 1922.

The vision for the new American Motorcycle trademark is to re-introduce a very limited number of special edition custom v-twin heavyweight motorcycles and to develop a lifestyle brand with related products that appeals to both motorcycle enthusiasts and mainstream consumers alike.

The American Motorcycle 1902 weekend events included “Branscombe Richmond” hosting all of the activities along with his band the “Renegade Posse”. Branscombe and The Renegade Posse played three events including the kick off reception on Friday evening, and two additional outdoor concerts held Sat and Sun evenings. Eddie Money also was in attendance Saturday evening playing his numerous hits. Also in concert Sat and Sun afternoons were “Tres Hombres” playing their tribute songs to ZZ Top, and “Turn the Page” with their tributes to Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band.

American Motorcycle 1902 also hosted the girls of Renegade: Kathleen Kinmont, Sandra Ferguson, and Shauna Sand Lamas, added excitement to the event signing autographs, making guest appearances, and singing / dancing with the Renegade Posse at each concert.

The World Renowned Motorcycle Stunt team of Monte Perlin and his son Sam were also featured throughout the weekend performing their incredible motorcycle stunts and tricks in front of an ever growing crowd. We saw Monte perform wheel stands on everything from his Corvette powered Boss Hoss, to a Mastiff supplied by Big Dog, to the new American Indian 300cc Atv’s, and also on his assortment of off road and trials bikes. They performed inside the steel cage on a variety of machines including a 110 cc mini bike. Their stunts, and bike handling amazed the crowd.

American Motorcycle 1902 and approximately 36 vendors participated in vendor row: including Cliff Fodge w/Big Dog?s Albuquerque, Carefree Choppers of Glendale, AZ, and Harley Davidson of Santa Fe. Street Walker exhausts were seeing a lot of traffic for their unique designs as well as numerous vendors selling apparel, accessories, artwork, food, and related products.

STEALTH REPORT–When you write every week for this site you expect to take shots concerning what you write about. I don’t expect everyone to agree with my views and what I write. This comes with the territory. Jose and Bandit have both stated before that ” it is not whether everyone agrees with you or not, it is about people reading what you write!” So when someone takes time to respond to what I have written, I appreciate the feedback, good or bad. With that being said I took a shot on “Your Shot” last weekend that went beyond what we usually do on “Your Shot!” It was personal and was aimed at something I hold near and dear to my heart. The Annual Run For Breath “In Memory Of Justin Pullin,” My son.

A “Proud H-D ” employee blasted me and the run. Blasting me was fine but when you blast the RFB, you have just crossed the line. Let me first say that I can count on one hand over the years how many “Proud H-D” dealerships have supported the run. When I am finished counting I will have at least 3 or 4 fingers left over.

Three years ago one of these “Proud H-D” dealerships agreed to be a sponsor but the deadline had passed for the sponsorship fee to be paid. I agreed to put their name on the RFB t-shirt and they could pay me later. As of this writing I am still waiting for their check! You may wonder how much the sponsorship fee is? A whole $100!

So hey “Mr. Proud Dealership Employee” are you still so proud?

Talking about being proud, if you are so proud of what you do, why don’t you sign your name to your post? Just maybe you are not as proud as you would like for us to believe? One more thing and then I will move on. Every week I sign my name to what I write and a picture is also posted each week, so I do not hide my identity. I stand behind what I write no matter the subject and who it might offend. You see here at BIKERNET, we don’t have to be politically correct like you have to be at your “Proud Dealership.” Maybe that is why you did not sign your name to your post, you want to hide and you are not as proud as you would have us believe. Enough said!

Spring is finally here and the bikes are out on the road. This weekend the Concerned Bikers Association puts on their annual spring swap meet. These are good people and do a great job with the swap meet. I will be there both days and will have a report next week on this event.

Last I would like to thank all of have supported the RFB over the years. It is hard work, but the day of the run it is all worth it.

Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson team OPENS ’05 SEASON WITH RECORDS– Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson team OPENS ’05 SEASON WITH RECORDS, MILESTONE PERFORMANCE Harley-Davidson Takes Multiple Honors from Season-opening Event

Both ends of the national record, career-best numbers, milestone performance and a track record – not a bad way to start the 2005 NHRA POWERADE Drag Racing season.

The Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson team set out this weekend to defend the 2004 NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle championship they earned with rider Andrew Hines. The 15-race season started with the Mac Tools NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway and so far, the season looks very promising.

“This team collected the first six-second run in NHRA history, both ends of the national record and a track record,” Harley-Davidson Racing Manager Anne Paluso said. “We want to defend our championship and this is a great way to start the season.”

On Friday, returning champion Hines put Harley-Davidson into the record books with a 6.991-second pass at 196.10 mph. It was the first pass in the six-second range and the honor was worth a $10,000 bonus from the Mickey Thompson 6-second Club. Hines later improved his speed, reaching 197.45, setting both ends of the national record.

Hines qualified in the top spot with teammate GT Tonglet closely behind in the number two spot. Tonglet set a track record, going 197.45 for a career-best speed along with a career-best elapsed time of 7.007. He and Hines recorded the same speed, but the track record went to Tonglet because he made the run first.

Both Hines and Tonglet were disappointed by losses in the second round Hines by red-lighting and Tonglet due to a mechanical gremlin – but they both gained impressive milestones and kicked off the season with high hopes of winning rounds in the future.

“We came into this event wanting both bikes to qualify in the number one and two positions,” Tonglet said. “We did that and we got into the six-second range too. I really wanted that mark but if I couldn’t do it, I’m just glad it stayed with the Screamin’ Eagle team.

“To be able to run a 7.007 at the first race of the season is saying something about the way the season is going to be. We have two great, new bikes and we’re close to having two good, consistent setups.”

At just 21 years old and with a championship on his resume, Hines had a milestone performance at Gainesville.

“It’s disappointing that we both lost and in the second round too,” Hines said. “Breaking the six-second record was amazing and it topped the entire weekend, but it would have been better to finish the weekend in the winner’s circle. This is a great accomplishment for the entire team, our family and Harley-Davidson. It’s even better that it came at the start of the season.

“Now we have to focus on winning rounds and winning races. We need to start running for our second championship, and we have 14 races left to make that happen.”

CARIBBEAN REPORT–Since I will be taking my ass kissing puckers into another immoral trip I might not be able to do the news for next week. You know I need to spend all that money that is given to me by the nay sayers and spend it well in my auto gratifying quest for self promoting. Anyway, forgetting about all that bullshit and people who don’t even have the balls to post their names and e-mail addres, here’s the weeks story and I’m fucking sticking to it.

Next week, March 29th to be exact, the Discovery channel will have the last of the bike build off shows (for this season) and the reason I mention this is because it was filmed in my home, Puerto Rico. Yes, as in Caribbean island, sun, surf, skimpy clad chicks and eternal riding weather. Roland Sands and Arlen Ness battled themselves and the mountain/ beach roads of Puerto Rico, but knowing that Discovery won’t show a quarter of the footage taken, I believe I should talk a bit more of what this West Indies rock is about, without sounding like a tourism bureau ad.

Some say I might be a cocky mother fucker, some might say the newbie from Puerto Rico, and you know what, that is totally cool. o when you come from paradise, when you come from a place that is not remotely known for it’s Harley Davidson heritage, those are simple and daring ass-umptions, people are way too quick to critique something they don’t know much about, so in order not to sin of being ignorant, let’s get into the thick of things.

To some I might have crawled under a rock, and in a certain way they are right. 16 years or so ago, I started what is now called Caribbean Custom Cycles. From that day on, I worked with a certain goal in mind, to build and promote the Harley style of bikes and get people to know what Puerto Rico. When I had the chance to invite Discovery here, I was glad they decided to visit, not because I would be part of it, but because people from the US and the TV audience would have a chance to briefly see what our country was about, they would have a chance to cruise down the roads, hugging the beach so closely that Arlen would get sand into his velocity stacks, or twisting so hard into the green lush mountains that Roland would become dizzy, even with his years of experience riding race bikes. But more so to be able to enjoy the freedom of what riding should actually be. Not having to look over your shoulder all the time scanning for cops, not worrying if your apes are a couple inches too high, not worrying if your helmet ended up in the back of a truck “by mistake”.When we all have a mental image of what the freedoms of the road should be, believe it or not, a place like PR is closer than any of the states I have had a chance to visit; it’s really easy to actually enjoy the ride. Sure it will take me a really long time to describe what is going on in here, but a good try is better than none.It’s not all a rose garden, traffic in a small island tends to get to you, getting everything here, what many take for granted is a bit more expensive and time consuming, but there’s a trade off for everything. Let’s just say that a Sunset in Rincon is worth any hassles, way over. I’ve had the chance to ride in many places, places I have been before, even places i have lived for short stints, but somehow when I got to re visit and then cruise on a bike, it all seemed different, it all had a different effect on the way I perceived things, but I guess folks, that could be a story for a following news…or maybe a string of them.I have been here so long that sometimes I take all the stuff for granted, but when people come visit, it kind of changes the perspective, I see their eyes or the way they react when we end up in a perfect road, the surf and sand , the palm trees, the smooth pavement and no cops for miles, just to stop at a little kiosk, beachfront may I add, and enjoy the surf and the beautiful senoritas catching the rays, working on their deep tans. It’s very simple and tempting to spend the whole afternoon sipping on cool drinks or ice cold beers while soaking it all in, or to the more adventurous ones, just grab the surfboard and battle the waves, all this while your motor is still clicking away while cooling down. More than once people have fallen in love with this scene, fallen in love with one of the hot (in many ways) girls and never gone back. I live here and I fall in love with that scene, over and over again. This is still home, and as it is sometimes, home is work, and daily boring living, sure I work my ass off, like I sure all of you do, and we live in a certain routine, but still I find the time to escape to those scenes described, to get away from what we really are or the actual shit that we have to go through. That is why when we have guests, not tourists, not visitors, guests, it enjoyable when they feel awed by all this surrounding them. Those of you who have been lucky enough to ride the Black Hills, or into the Grand canyon might get the feeling of what I am talking about, that feeling of being there and going, holly fuck this is cool !

So speaking of cool, and of Discovery, you know what to me would be really cool? How about a bike trip island by island, enjoy the pristine Charlotte Amalie bay in St Thomas, or the Baths in Virgin Gorda, the nude beaches in St Martin, the old British dockyard where Lord Horatio Nelson watched for French attacks and fixed the fleets ships in Antigua, the awe inspiring Jaques Cousteau sanctuary in Pigeon, Guadaloupe, the never ending Friday night party in the old pirate town of Gros Ilet in St Lucia, on and on and on….. Sure the Caribbean is (to me) the greatest back yard on earth, and it’s rich with history, from the “discovery” of the New World, to the Indians before, to the pirates and trade routes. We still have 600-year-old towns, with the architecture neatly preserved, but doing so atop a cool bike with a hot chick is the real treat.

Sure I could be better off if I was in the states, sure those 16 years of work would pay off much more than it has, but why? Why should I leave a place like this, the freedom, the sun, the surf….. The swinging move of a curvaceous brown eyed beauty, the island that winks at you and makes you forget all the hardship, all the time lost, and all the cool things that makes you thank whomever is up there for having chosen you to be born here.Sure Puerto Rico is not the hotbed of bike building, but it was made for perfect riding, so the connection is totally obvious and was way overdue.It’s sad that you will just catch a glimpse of what I am trying to explain here, but at least you will be able to catch something,

Let me be frank, just like when you see that beautiful girl and you must try to conquer, every step in the right direction feels like there’s a lot gained. When I get to watch that TV show on the 29th, it will just be another small step that has been already taken towards a much higher goal. Nope, not my self-promotion like others dare to say, the exposure of my home to all of you, to what we do and who we are. The friendliness of the people and the beauty of the land. I’m sure that after that show you will fall in love with it, just like that hot girl, wearing the yellow bikini catching the winter surf.

I promise I will keep on in my tour, there’s times that is needed to explain where we come from and how we got there to be able to reach. If you have noticed in the many years I have written this column, I don’t talk about me, I talk about what?s around me, what going on and the way I see things. I have the fortune of being able to work hard to be at different places, ride at different places and enjoy those with friends. I guess it’s time to start a new chapter in whats out there. All those things that some of us are not fortunate enough to be able to enjoy.
