Hey, It’s news day and I’m fried. I don’t know what’s come over me. I’m sortastressed and I need to knock it off and just relax. If all goes well thisweekend the Sturgis Chop will be 90 percent complete. By next weekend thebike will be 98 percent complete. This weekend the carb will be mounted, allthe exhaust in place, the oil lines run, gas line run. Next week I’ll orderthe Rev Tech hydraulic brake lines, clutch and throttle cables.
I’ll even wire the sucker although I’ve changed my thoughts severaltimes. I’m just waiting for Compu-Fire and BDL to get together on theirengine starter driveline configuration. It’s the hottest thing on the marketand needs to go with me to Sturgis. No more starter above the trans. That’swhere I?m running my coils.
Sturgis Plans are coming together. We’re staying with Eric Herrmann inDeadwood. We just found out that a non-bike national mag is covering ourride and we may have a film crew along.
Just getting all this action off my chest is helping me relax some. Let’sget to the news. By the end I’ll have more to report:

BIKERNET CARIBBEAN REPORT–Well, some of you might have missed my news every week, some might not, anyway, here we go…….I just finished shipping and building the Horse Chop Off bike. We had a 3 day event here some weeks ago, Roland Sands and Hank Young came over to share the fun. So that’s over a week I spent tourist-ing around. The old saying, you want to play you got to pay, could not be truer. That week, made me work triple to get the chop Off bike done, plus the ones that we took to the event, plus the ones that are coming to the States with us. Every single day, 7 days a week, getting home at 5:30 am and returning to the shop before 11:00 am (and that’s doing all the normal shit you do at home), plus shipping everything, and now we got a 3 day event starting tomorrow, fly out to the Smoke Out, get in Monday and fly out to Hawaii Tuesday (NOT to the Choppers Only Show). In no way I’m bitchin’ about it, I’m just stating that I have been a bit busy, and why? I guess if Discovery calls right now I would have to say I refuse, If I want to stay alive…..
I am not posting any photos of the Chop Off bike ’till it gets showed in NC. It?s a cool compact, simple bike, and I like it. We are also taking a couple bikes that some have seen before, some that are freshly made, can’t complaint though, there’s a half dozen frames on the way, and 4 on paint, plus some CFL’s on the jig, if it keeps like this we’ve done like 25 bikes for the year. I also sold my black chopper, plus I am putting something together to leave in the States.
More so, we are working on the Rincon event. I have a new set of partners and I am taking over the event, so it’s a go for now. Speaking of such, there was a cool article at ER on Rincon and the Purple Bobber that I built for the Journey Museum, it will be featured in the next issue.
Since there’s not enough on my plate, we are also working on a Video that will be sold later on. It?s babes, bobbers/choppers and chaos in the Caribbean. The scenery in PR is very cool and we are taking advantage of it, plus the thing we can get away with, it’s freaky….Smoke, fingers, chicks and a lot of very fast foolery….
Anyway guys, this is the first night I’m getting a few good hours of sleep, so I will post later on, next week we will be in NC, but I will try to get my life back to normal, like it has ever been…..

OFFICERS CONDUCT MOTORCYCLE GANG SWEEP– SEATTLE (AP) ? Police and federal agents began rounding up members of theBandidos biker gang across the Northwest today, after a grand jury returneda 19-count indictment accusing them of crimes ranging from racketeering andwitness tampering to dealing drugs and stolen Harley- Davidson motorcycles.
At least a dozen had been arrested by this afternoon, including theorganization?s international president. About 300 investigators working thecase in Washington, Montana and South Dakota had arrest warrants for 20 moremembers, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms said in a news release.They also served 21 search warrants, including one at a Harley-Davidsondealership in Bellingham.
The investigation centered on that city in Whatcom County, which is inthe northwestern corner of Washington along the Canadian border. TheBandidos have operated there for two decades, officials said.
?The international leadership of the Bandido organization has beenoperating in Whatcom County with perceived impunity for many years,? SheriffBill Elfo said. ?Hopefully this case will serve to dismantle the Bandidomotorcycle organization in our area and will have a significant impact uponmethamphetamine distribution, thefts, burglaries, crimes of violence andother nefarious activities that plague our community.?

MEDICAL MARIJUANA CONSPIRACY–I was surprised to read in the 6-12-05 Sunday post, Marijuana! Supreme Court Just Says No Now how can you relieve pain?, that it was a liberal conspiracy to end medical marijuana! Here all these years I had been under the illusion that it was the bible thumping, moral majority, flag waving, freedom fries eating, god fearing religious fanatics who were opposed to ANY use of weed even when it offered relief from the pain and sickness of cancer and cancer treatments.
Good thing we have a conservative Congress ready to step in and right the situation! …Whoops! … looks like I’m wrong again since that same conservative Congress, given the opportunity to right this wrong, decided to reinforce the ban on medical weed by voting against blocking the Justice Department from prosecuting people in the 10 states where the practice is legal.
Just thought your readers should know the facts when it comes to their personal freedoms and then decide for themselves who’s really on the little guy’s side. An article showing who’s doing what on this issue is attached below.

BIKERNET POLICE TIPS– George Phillips of Meridian Mississippi was going up tobed when his wife told him that he’d left the light on inthe garden shed, which she could see from the bedroomwindow. George opened the back door to go turn offthe light but saw that there were people in the shedstealing things. He phoned the police, who asked “Areany of those people in your house” and he said no.
Thenthey said that all patrols were busy, and that he shouldsimply stay in his house, lock his doors and an officerwould be along when available.
George said, “Okay,”hung up, counted to 30, and phoned the police again.
“Hello I just called you few seconds ago Because therewere people in my shed. Well, you don’t have to worryabout them now cause I’ve just shot them all”. Then hehung up.
Within five minutes three police cars, an ArmedResponse unit, and an ambulance showed up at thePhillips residence. Of course,! the police caught theburglars red-handed.
One of the Policemen said toGeorge: “I thought you said that you’d shot them!”
George said, “I thought you said there was nobodyavailable!”

LA CARRERA PAN AMERICAN RACE WITH A STINKIN? ?54 LINCOLN–Yeah I signed on to run in the junior class of this famous race, as co-pilot, with Dr. Hamster. We?re running 2,500 miles from the bottom of Mexico in Oaxaco, to Texas in a mad dash to get out of the country.
Here?s a couple of shots of the car. This particular car ran the race in 1999. This model won the race two years running in the mid ?50s. We?re looking for a sponsor or two to have their emblems emblazoned on the big sheet metal panels. Kellog cereal, Mercedes and major corporate sponsors are all over these cars like Nascar players. Some race efforts eat over a million bucks on this annual competition.
We?re looking for $8,900 in sponsorship funds to keep up with the big dogs. Let us know if you want your company logo running with the big dogs all over Mexico. Sure, it?s crazy for a couple of bikers to enter this race, but what the hell. Ya only live once.

TIPS FOR WOODBE WRITERS– Well, I took your advice and bought Stephen King’s book, On Writing. This book is hilarious and I am learning with every page the truth in your statement to me, “you have the mind of a writer”. I am afraid you have now created a monster as I am motivated to begin a career in writing that will surpass anything I had ever dreamed of before.
All my life I have walked around envisioning myself as a more heroic and distinguished figure. Through writing I can finally become all the things I was never quite able to achieve in life. Starting as a young boy failing miserably at football and baseball, to getting my nose broken during an amateur boxing match I had invited my whole family to during one of my bragging concerts about being the next middleweight champ.
Like in King’s book, I had doubters who told me after reading one of my articles,”You sound like an idiot.”
I am deeply thankful to you, of all people, for opening up a new world full of endless possibilities to a young man who was condemned to work 40 hours a week and struggle to pay bills just like the rest of the dreary public. Although I will hopefully always write for the magazines, I now am absorbing every piece of information I can about books. I have many stories like the My First Harley series that are waiting to be released to paper.
I truly just thought it was just my simple need to feel grander than I was that kept fueling my foolish dreams till I eventually “grew up”, or my till my dreams eventually died. I promise to always keep you informed of what I am doing and hope to be able to send you stuff along the way so I can get an honest opinion about it’s quality, and also it’s believability.
You have no idea how blue the sky looks, or how green the grass appears to be right in front of me. I don’t even want to ride right now, as I truly want to create. Ah, that last part is bullshit. I’m going for a ride right after I send this. Who’d ever thought that Stephen King would inspire a thug like me to do anything?

THUNDER MOUNTAIN MEETS AGENT ZEBRA–Agent Zebra wrote severalfeatures on this Thunder Mountain Custom for HOT BIKE magazine. He?s alreadyclocked several thousands of miles and plans to ride it to Sturgis with theBikernet Sturgis Crazy Horse Charity Ride.

CHARITY RIDE TO STURIS PULLS NATIONAL COVERAGE–We got some good news today…we have been asked by Cowboy?s and Indian?smagazine to supply them with an editorial photo and editorial spread fortheir celebrity corner covering all the activities of the Charity Ride tothe Crazy Horse Monument. This will be featured in their December issue ofthe magazine and I will have to produce the editorial piece for them by midAugust. They want pictures of the ride, at the monument and relatedmaterials with Branscombe.
This should extend the reach of the charity ride program one morechannel. They were excited to hear about the activities that we areinvolved in at Sturgis, and felt that the inclusion of the charity ride intheir publication will have a resonance with their readership.
As you may or may not know this is a six time per year publication thathas extensive reach into both the lifestyle and horse crowds. They havevery high demographics, and a strong and loyal readership.

I have been around motorcycles for a long time and since I have openedStealth Bike Works, you see things in a different light. You appreciatebeing able to do what you love in a whole new way.You go at it all day and it seems the time really flies by and the days seemto be too short. I guess when you enjoy what you do, you don’t pay attentionto the clock. When things are a little slow, when I start to think aboutbills adding up, I try to stop and realize how lucky I am to be doing what Ido and I try to think about the up side to everything like being your ownboss, like having fun with what you do. You have to make some money but thatis not the whole picture.
So I guess what I am trying to say is that I amvery thankful for this opportunity and the chance I have to do what I loveto do. It is a wild ride, kind of like a roller coaster, but hey it is andadventure!

Then it ends and the sun comes out, we chase each otheraround the bedroom, make drinks or we ride to Acapulcos for Margaritas.
We actually made reasonable time today, so I?m going to hit the shop, popopen a Corona and begin the process of slipping this Sturgis Chop backtogether.
Saturday, John Gilbert, feature editor Bike Works magazine is going toroll to the Bikernet Headquarters to assist, if I haven?t completed thecopper hard line treatment.

BIKERNET RUN TO STURGIS– I’ll give you a brief rundown: Thecharity efforts are to support the Crazy Horse Monument in the Black Hills.We leave from Phoenix on Wednesday the 3rd of August and ride along warmtwisting highways, ducking interstates wherever possible to Durango,Colorado for the night. Then it’s up Thursday morn and down the terrificmountain roads into Aspen, Colorado for the night. Both these towns areknock-outs for terrific restaurants and nightlife. Friday morning we cut adusty trail north again into Cheyenne and we’re almost home. Saturday wemeander up killer roads into the Badlands and Deadwood, but we won’t stopuntil we reach the Full Throttle Saloon for our first party of the Rally.
Each day will cover 250-300 miles so we’ll roll into town in time to hangout by the pool, hit the gym, shop in town then have a killer meal.
Here?s the latest: Master Builder Harold Ponteralli, Barry Wardlow ofAccurate Engineering, Bandit, Rogue the writer, are riding alone. Guys areflying in from Hawaii and moto-journalists from Australia. On the final daywe?ll meet up with the Hamster Ride in Wyoming for lunch before the finalblast into the Badlands. Just today we found that a national non-motorcyclemag will be covering the ride and the celebrity ride to the Crazy HorseMonument during the rally with Branscomb Richmond. We may even have a filmcrew along for the Sturgis Run.

INVESTORS SUE HARLEY-DAVIDSON–In a bit of bad news for execs at The Motor Company, several class action lawsuits have been filed against Harley-Davidson. Two of its officers are also alleging securities violations along with false and misleading accounting practices that caused inflation of Harley stocks.
The lawsuits claim that former Harley CEO Jeff Bleustein, his successor James Ziemer and the company used false accounting practices both to hide slowing motorcycle sales and to pump up the price of Harley’s red-hot stock. The lawsuits further claim that both Bleustein and Ziemer sold 740,000 shares of Harley common stock for approximately $45.9 million prior to announcing softening motorcycle sales in April. A sudden sell-off followed the announcement, leading to a 20% devaluation of Harley stock in two days on a volume of more than $50 million shares. At least five class action lawsuits have been filed since May 18 on behalf of investors who purchased stock between January 21, 2004 and April 14, 2005.
Harley denied the accusations in a prepared statement, “The company believes the allegations in the lawsuits are without merit, and it intends to vigorously defend against these actions.” As of press time, the U.S. District Court in Milwaukee, where the suits were filed, had not ruled on whether a class action was proper in this situation – stay tuned.

BEST LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY– In an effort to determine the top crime fighting agency in the country, the President narrowed the field to three finalists,the CIA, the FBI, and the NYC Police Dept. The three remaining contenders were given the task of catching a rabbit which was released into the forest.
The CIA went into the forest. They placed animal informants throughout.They questioned all plant and mineral witnesses.After three months of extensive investigation they concluded that rabbits do not exist.
The FBI went into the forest. After two weeks without a capture, they burned the forest killing everything in it, including the rabbit. They made no apologies.The rabbit deserved it.
The NYC PD went into the forest. They came out two hours later with a badly beaten bear. The bear was yelling ” Okay, Okay, I’m a rabbit, I’m a rabbit”.

MOTORCYCLE IMPORTING INFO–I’ve just checked and no I can’t import it into the US as it’s a UK bike and doesn’t conform to the US legislation. The only way I can do it is to strip it and send it as spares without an engine and then send the engine at a later date. This means purchasing a wrecked Busa in the US and rebuilding it as a US bike!
Pain in the ass but I don’t really want to give up this bike. Any bikes over 25 years old are ok. In case you are ever asked this question again.

We have been to a few shows this spring and have had great response. Arlen and Cory Ness saw it in Green Bay at the 1st Annual Midwest Cyclemania Show. Arlen said “I love the lines, I love the color.”
The bike is built by Todd Gilbertson, a.k.a. Gilby. Everything is done in shop. The tank and side panels are all hammer formed. Fenders, handlebars, floorboards, pretty much everything has been fabricated by Gilby. All paint and pinstriping is also done by Gilby. Just so you know this isn’t our first bike, and won?t be the last.

FOURTH AMENDMENT SEARCH AND SEIZURE OVERVIEW– The right of the people to be secure in their persons, house, papers and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
Definition of Search: A search occurs when an expectation of privacy that society is prepared to consider reasonable is infringed upon by governmental action. United States v. Jacobsen, 466 U.S. 109, 112 (1984). A search implies an invasion into private or hidden areas, including the body. Coolidge v. New Hampshire, 403 U.S. 443 (1971).
Definition of Seizure: A person has been “seized” within the meaning of the Fourth Amendment if, in view of all of the circumstances surrounding the incident, a reasonable person would have believed that he was not free to leave. United States v. Mendenhall, 446 U.S. 544, 554 (1980); Michigan v. Chesternut, 486 U.S. 567 (1988)(no seizure where police in marked patrol car drive along-side and follow pedestrian). The Fourth Amendment also protects property interests, even in situations where neither privacy nor liberty is at stake. Thus in Soldal v. Cook Co., 113 S. Ct. 538 (1992), the Court held that the police action of physically tearing a mobile home from its lot and towing it to another location constituted a “seizure” of the property within the meaning of the Fourth Amendment.
Definition of Probable Cause: Probable cause is the reasonable belief that a specific crime has been committed and that the defendant committed the crime. It does not require evidence of each element of the crime or evidence to the degree necessary to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Probable cause to issue a search warrant may be described as bits and pieces of information cobbled together until a picture is formed that leads a reasonable prudent person to believe a crime has been committed and to believe evidence of the crime may be found on a particular person or in a place or means of conveyance. State v. Grissom, 251 Kan. 851, 910, 840 P.2d 1142 (1992).

MOTORSPORT ARTIST ERIC HERRMANN SIGNS MULTIPLE LICENSING DEALS WITHJACK DANIEL?S & RICHARD CHILDRESS RACING- The fine folks at Jack Daniel?s approached me with the idea of creating amotorcycle work of art with a Jack Daniel?s flair. Well I know Jack, and Iknow motorcycles, so the idea intrigued me. What I didn?t know, sent me downa three year road that educated me about the famous Jack Daniel?s.
Several trips to Lynchburg Tennessee, where the distillery is located,sent me back in time, as I photographed Mr. Jack Daniel?s office and othersignificant landmarks. It was a cold early morning, ice on the trees, thefirst time I was there. There?s a cave spring that Jack Daniel?s used waterfrom in his distilling process. Steam was rising from the historic watersand I envisioned Mr. Jack as he first discovered this magical place. Thesmall town of Lynchburg is equally unique. Spring brings a wealth of colorsto this beautiful area and the riding is magnificent. So without making thisstory too long I returned to my studio armed with photos and visual memoriesto begin my painting journey.
Trying to combine the history and tell the story of Jack Daniel?s, in onepainting, is too large of a task. I thought I?d do what I do best, hidestuff. So, hidden within this work of art you?ll find over fifty JackDaniel?s, whiskey, references. That?s the scoop on the first Jack Daniel?s painting from Eric HerrmannStudios. As I was painting this piece, I kept thinking of more that I coulddo, but I just couldn?t fit all that heritage in to one work of art. As luckwould have it, my friends at Jack Daniel?s enjoy the painting as much as Ienjoyed creating it. They just commissioned me to work on another paintingfeaturing their #07 Nascar. New 2005 Victory Hammer

I recently enjoyed the latest Victory press Party ( complements of Bikernet ), where Victory motorcycles showed off their new line for '05.
I flew out from Houston on an extreeeeemly short fight to Austin. So, why not just run out for the Victory trip? The response is just as strange as taking such a short flight. I had the bike builders blues, tons of time in the shop building cool customs but no time to relax with my thoughts of chrome and welding beads, or basically, I don't have a personal bike currently. Don't tell anyone.
Once I arrived in Austin, the Victory guy's were kind enough to have a shuttle waiting to cart me and another writer out to the function. It was comforting to have someone to talk bikes with along the way and help pass the time. The press function was held at a country club with a full size golf course, (no bike riding on the course is the only complaint I had ). The facility was second to none, with tennis courts, pool tables , pool and spa area including a fully equipped gym ( where I got a much needed work out in the morning before the day's events ). Also on hand were plenty of Victory staff (such as engineers and development techs ), to discuss the models in detail. They had a incredible spread prepared for dinner and further discussions of my favorite topic–Motorcycles.
When I arrived, Monday evening, they had the full '05 line on hand for review. The Austin Country Club housed a manicured round patio at the rear of the facility overlooking the golf course, where they had the bikes arranged around the area with tables and chairs set up in the middle. The table were decorated with Victory information and souvenirs to help familiarize the moto-journalistic crowd with the new Hammer as well as the other 05 model: Vegas, 8 Ball, Ness Vegas, Kingpin , Ness Kingpin , Kingpin Deluxe , Touring Cruiser, and last but not least the all new 100-inch sporty Victory Hammer. there were several variations of the different models from bone stock to models dressed up with their custom order options and new accessories.
The first time I gazed at the Victory Performance model, Hammer, I was impressed with the cosmetic appearance. It snagged an semblance combination between a sport bike and an FXR. I was also impressed with the seat pocket in the tank and the bottom curve of the tank. I have chopped- up stretched and molded many factory tanks in the past to get this shape. To witness that you can grab a bike right off the shelf with the same cool lines is an eye-opener.
After reviewing the new models along with technical discussions, they let me in on the best part: We'd get to ride these bastards! They laid out a hot route that took us through the hill country surrounding Austin (if you haven't been for a ride there you need to). I'm new to this, my first assignment. I stood in the lavish lobby looking at all this sparkling chrome, with camera, pin, and pad, but I wasn't ready to ride.
I looked around quickly and figured out that there were not enough Hammers for everyone. Bandit's dispatch info clearly stated that I was to look at the Hammer specifically since it was a new model and there was no way I was coming back empty handed! Everyone else had obviously been tipped off on the departure time (or they were regulars to these press gigs).
I knew there was no time to get to my room and back before the Hammers were all gone. Some of the guys (and Gals) were heading out already.
Then I quietly walked up to my room to put my crap away and get my lid on (my buddy Bradley, Da Polisher, just went down the day before and helped me remember why I choose to wear a helmet ). When I returned to the launch site, almost everyone hit the road, but as I expected someone had their eye on my ride and was in search of the key. I didn't want them to waste any more time looking for the key, so I slid the key from my pocket and kindly pointed out that this one was reserved for Bikernet.
I don't think there were any hard feelings but with the Title of the “Devil” I might not have noticed anyway. Needless to say I rode the 50 degree v twin with electronic fuel injection, by myself after that, which was fine with me, since I wanted to see if it was worthy of the Lucky Devil 100 mph stamp of approval. The Hammer, not only did well on the top end, where I played around for a while, but took turns just as well. I started speeding up and slowing down taking quick turns and just getting to know the beast. Then I took some time to check out the bottom end. I had fun with the strong torque off the line and handling at lower speeds was light and agile.
We all met up at the lunch stop, they had planned for us, and scarfed good ol' Texas BBQ. Then we pulled out to research hot photographic locations of us testing out the bikes. At this time we traded bikes around, blasted the new models back and forth on some backroads, conducted interviews and visited for a while. Then they cut us loose with the request to return the bikes after we were done.
They did give us a map with some suggested return routes, (naturally I got my hands back on my selected bike of the day). At first I thought I might go along with the crowd, but it wasn't long before I slipped out in front and wandered off on my own. Never been a follower, but I gave it my best shot, (okay, so I kinda got lost).
On my trip back to the Hotel I tested every aspect of the Hammer, my first experience on a Victory. I felt the brakes, tested my grip on the controls, sensed the motion of the throttle and clutch. I leaned harsh into corners, grabbed big handfuls of throttle, nailed the brakes and slid to a stop more than once. I checked the idiot lights for position and readability, and inspected the gauges and speedometer. Since I build bikes at Lucky Devil Customs, in Houston, I kept a keen ear and all senses alive for temperamental aspects, wild vibrations, controls that snagged or rattled, pegs that were awkward to reach or navigate. For someone who doesn't like anything over a 200 tire ( for my personal riding taste, when I have a ride ), I had a very good time.
When you build wild unruly choppers for a living, it's strange to test a stock bike. I immediately looked for aspects that could be chopped, lightened, trimmed or discarded. The Victory is a tight OEM bike with Arlen and Cory touches that take this stock bike from an awkward factory construction to a more detailed, artistic, Ferrari finish. The Stretched tanks contoured to fit the seats, the inlaid taillight, the extra-step finishes on the controls, custom ignition switch housing, styled wheels and headlight take this model beyond the average factory built bike.
The notion of a OEM factory bike pushing a custom builder, challenging his artistic and detail senses was stimulating, to say the least. It's usually other customizers or other custom bike builders who have pushed me in the past.
Victory's new beast, The Hammer, flies off the floor with the new freedom 100/6 power plant. A 99.7-ci ( 1634cc ) air & oil cooled 50 degree v twin with electronic fuel injection, overhead cams, 4-valves-per-cylinder and hydraulic lifters. Bore and stroke is 101x102mm with a 9.8:1 compression ratio.
The new motor was designed and built by Victory engineers and packs 10 % more horsepower and 22% more torque than the Victory 92/5 unit. They even managed to shave the cast aluminum cases down (10mm) to increase cornering clearance.
They also developed a new dual exhaust system specifically for the Hammer.
The primary is a gear drive unit with torque compensator that packs wet multi-plate clutch system. The other plus is that in the freedom 100/6 the 6 is for, you guessed it, a six-speed tranny. The overdrive offers a 13.6% reduction in rpm from a standard 1:1 ratio. The overdrive gear also reduces engine noise and vibration, but in my opinion, with the well balanced motor, it didn't need vibration reduction. Don't get me wrong that extra gear just can't be beat.
Moving back to the rear tire this beast sports the newly designed Dunlop 250/40/R18. This tire has been developed specifically for the Hammer with a little teamwork between Victory and Dunlop to make the most out of the handling and traction.
Now for one of my favorite part, the chassis! The wheelbase is 65.7 inches, 5.8-inch ground clearance, rake is 32.9 degrees and trail 5.57 inches. The rear swingarm has a single gas shock and up front they have 43mm inverted-cartridge telescopic forks. For stopping power the Hammer boosts 300mm floating rotors with a 2-piston caliper in the rear and dual 4-piston calipers up front. The seat height is 26.3 inches with the fat tire and 6-speed tranny. Victory is knocking down a lot of OEM first time goodies right out of the box.
From a styling perspective the Hammer goal was to come up with something that was in-between a sport bike and a cruiser, and I think that being the goal they did a killer job. They are also stepping up to the plate with factory accessories to develop custom bolt on components such as custom wheels, seats, bars and custom goodies and apparel. They have also been working on Victory performance components such as performance exhaust systems and 100-inch big boar kits for Vegas, Kingpin, and TC.
Hammer accessories are inspirational. With this accessory, if you pick up a passenger, you can attach the seat cover to this wind screen. I know this seems insignificant but just try stuffing one of these down your shirt, yea it's cool when you think of it like that.

There's another goodie, this is a bolt on replacement for the passengers seat. not to good for riding on but if you are going solo you can stash your crap in there.
Victory also has a custom order program that runs 3 months of the year where you can pre order your bike with custom components and paint options. then when your bike hits the assembly line they build it with all the right stuff the first time and deliver it to your local Victory Dealer ready to ride. With increased production of accessories, apparel and model line improvements, Victory Motorcycles made serious steps to provide their customers with a solid product with as much factory custom styling as possible. For their 7th production year, they're only picking up speed.
From a customizer and custom builder stand point, I think Victory offers a sharp platform to work with. The peg mounts offer a good foundation for some good lucky devil style foot controls. As usual the front ends are just not long enough for me, but we can fix that with a saws-all and a welding machine. Maybe a new Hammer?
Okay, it's back to the grind, we have tons of custom metal work to put out and I am in the middle of doing the final assembly of Lucky Devil 001 ( I'll send some more info on that later ).

I also have some good info for our buddy, Jeff, in sunny Baghdad, regarding custom Victorys. The bad news is the tolerances are too tight to install a bigger tire with the early stock models. BUT there's good news: I did grab a good custom contact from the guys at Victory. It seems there's a custom shop in their area that produces fat tire kits and other custom production components for Victory Motorcycles.
They have an exchange program for most Victory models to reduce the wait time. I checked out their web site http://www.northstarcustomcycle.com, and they have some good looking stuff on their web site. I also gave them a call and spoke with Mr. Peterson over the phone. They seem to be on the ball.

Texas National Bike Show 2005

I had the privilege of attending the inaugural Texas National Bike Show this past weekend sponsored by Bikernet.com. The show was held in The Convention center of the San Luis Resort in Galveston, Texas. I interviewed The Devil, Kent Weeks, several months ago for a feature here on Bikernet.com, when he invited me to the show. Being an aspiring young writer looking to get my fingers working on any new story, I was elated to be included.
My only experience with bike shows was limited to one Easyriders bike show I attended last year. Besides that one show, I didn’t know dick about what goes on to put on a show. Let me say, if a promoter charges 25 bucks a head to enter the show, you’re getting off cheap. It cost so much in time and energy to put any show together that it’s worth every dime. For many promoters breaking even isn’t a remote possibility after all their time and effort. Oh well, sucks to be them, back to the report.
My wife and I had made it to the Lone Star rally Friday afternoon and were starting to look for a nice place to get a cold beer and rest our feet, (my leg was throbbing constantly, but I didn’t say anything ‘cuz I’m not a bitch). We were just about to hit a little bar off The Strand when my phone began vibrating like crazy. (I always let it vibrate a few times so I may derive a small amount of guilty pleasure from the movement next to my crotchital region.) Thanks to Caller ID, I saw it was Bandit.
“Hey ya Old Bastard, what’s up?”
“What’s up? Well, first I’m going to plant my foot up ‘yer ass for calling me ‘old’ again. Second, where the fuck are you?”
“I’m on The Strand with Salena. We’re heading that way in a few minutes.”
“Get your ass here. I want to start judging these bikes and Nyla refuses to help me. She says I’m too picky and I frustrate her.”
“Ok, Boss. I’m on my way.”
“Hurry up, Goddamnit! I’m not waiting all day.” With that last heartfelt sentiment, the phone went silent. He probably started the timer on his watch to see how long it would take me before I finally showed up. Luckily I wasn’t far from where we had parked my Softail springer, so we were on our way in less than 10 minutes. The Rally is located around blocks 19 to 29 while the Bike show was around block 53. We didn’t have but 20 straight, flat, wide, city blocks to ride.
As we headed to the show, we enjoyed the scenic coastal view to our left while the city was jumping on our right. Everything seemed peaceful and exciting all at once. Then again, it could have been the handful of Seconal and Vicodin I mixed up half hour before we left the rally.
When we arrived at the resort and parked downstairs, I was surprised to see very few bikes in the lot. I’m not kidding; there were less than 30 bikes there. Huh, I guess everyone probably parked by the beach and walked in. WRONG!
We walked upstairs and were met by The Devil himself. He was pacing the balcony overlooking the beach. He strode back and forth like a caged lion waiting to be unleashed on a feeble Christian sacrifice during the reign of the Roman Empire.
I approached him with a smile and my head bowed, never looking him in the eye. My hand outstretched as if I was trying to pet and aggressive dog that could bite at any minute. Never daring to look up, I could tell he was close to me by the persistent halitosis that emanates from his mouth. He only gets this way when he’s pissed, and I could feel the hair on the back of my neck beginning to shrink from the heat.
“H…h…h…Hello….Kent. How’s it going?”
“The amount of feeble piss ants running these streets makes it almost impossible for me to slaughter someone without the chance of a few witnesses.”
“Bad day, huh?” I was really trying to act cool, but I would have run like a bitch if my wife wasn’t standing there. Truth be known, I ended up sharting (pushing out a fart and actually shitting in your pants) and was in need of finding the head.
“No, not necessarily a bad day. I am just irritated being out in the public eye for this amount of time. I don’t like to leave the lair; I’m too exposed right now. What was that?” He looked over my shoulder as if he had heard a noise he perceived as a threat.
“Hear what, dude? All I hear are the bikes, man.”
“I swear I heard a trumpet. You didn’t hear a trumpet?”
“No man, no trumpet here. Maybe it’s the Rapture.” With that he was gone as quickly as a cool breeze in July. Before I knew it, I saw him holding a pedestrian 6 inches off the floor while cussing like a rabid dog. The guy’s intense.
Holly, the devil’s evil temptress, saw us milling about outside and immediately invited us into the show. She quickly gave us the lay of the land as she explained where the refreshments were. I needed a cold beer badly. She led us towards the Devil’s cave-like display to let us grab a cool one, when I was distracted by the sight of something spiraling towards my head. It was only due to my great Ninja reflexes and fighting skills (Yeah, ok!), that I was able to dodge the projectile and knock it out of the air before it took my wife’s pretty head off. Ok, it was actually a plastic Gatorade bottle, but I still dodged it. Bandit launched it from the Bikernet booth with the lovely Nyla, and thought it was a good idea to chunk his junk my way.
“Hey Old Man, what’re you doing?”
“What did I tell you, kid? Stop with the Old Man shit! You ready to go look at some bikes?”
Well hell, yeah I was. I didn’t come down here to talk to your gigantic noggin!
“Yeah, sure thing, boss.” We left the girls running the booth as we began to look for the bikes listed on Bandit’s judging sheet. The place had somewhere just over 50 bikes displayed, and many more not in the competition. Being Friday afternoon, I guessed people were at work, so the crowd was minimal. Things would definitely pick up the next day.
Bandit started schooling me on the art of “judging” a bike show.
“First thing to remember is a brand new stock bike is a 5. We are judging on a 10 point scale. If the bike is worse than stock in an area, then that area gets less than 5 points and vice versa. The first thing we do is make sure it’s in the right class.”
We began circling a few bikes and I watched as he diligently wrote numbers for each bike. He was meticulous in his critiques, but he knew when to say enough is enough! After half the bikes, we called it quits to watch the burlesque show. Let me tell you, this was definitely an adult affair. No little kids circling the stage on this one. It all started with The Sultry Suzanna and her “Balls of Death”. She danced and hopped around stage swinging these little glass balls on what looked like small chains. I could feel the sexiness in the air, but unlike the few knuckleheads screaming in the front row, I reserved my cheering. The girls who followed ranged from the 6’3” Bohemian named Estella Roman to the pert and petite headliner Bee Bonnie, “the housewife”. I enjoyed Bee Bonnie’s dance the most, as she came out with an ironing board and was wearing an apron. That sight alone gave me wood. She finished her tease by taking the frying pans she had been hiding her half naked body with, only to reveal two large egg yolk style pasties covering her nipples. I don’t know why, but I suddenly had the urge for eggs….mmmmm!
We finished the day with a few more bikes to judge. Bandit’s expertise showed as compared to my glitter stricken eye. I was ready to award 9s and 10s on a few bikes while Bandit stayed with 6s and 7s. It was an honor to be a part of the judging with the old crack head, but I just don’t have enough experience to judge a bike show just yet. Still, it was cool as hell and I had a blast.
We ended up checking out a few of the booths there and Bandit ended up paying several hundred dollars for some old, rusty, antique toys and a few trinkets. Personally, I think the guy must be running a whore smuggling ring in Southern California, but who am I to judge?
That night at dinner, my wife and I had the pleasure to join, Bandit, Nyla, Kent, Holly, Eric, a few girls from Eric’s harem, and Rick Fairless’s partner JT. Everyone was a real blast to hang out with and we enjoyed a wonderful meal at Landry’s. I particularly enjoyed talking with everyone, and enjoying the meal and drinks while hearing the bikes roar by on The Seawall. It was surreal.
The next morning, my wife and I attended the Easyriders bike show in Houston. Due to the hurricanes in September, both these great shows were scheduled for the same weekend. Although the show was cool, the crowd was small and the bikes at The Devil’s show were more competitive. I think Kent and Holly had more bikes in their show, but I didn’t confirm that with anyone.
We rode back to Galveston on a beautiful Texas morning of clear skies and high 70 degree temperatures. We were joined riding by my wife’s friend Amanda and her cool as hell Houston firefighter boyfriend, David. David was riding a kick ass ’05 Softail Springer, and I was aboard the ’05 Springer Classic. We roared down I-45 hauling ass when we noticed the sky turning black ahead. Shit!!!! It looked like rain ahead. Like many places in America, Texas is famous for weather that can change in a minute.
The weather wasn’t bad, but I was relieved to get to The San Luis Resort. Being that the bike show was indoors, we’d remain dry. We were immediately drawn to the crowd inside. There must have been 4 to 5 times the amount of people in the convention center on Saturday as compared to Friday. I would venture to say as many as 200 people were at the bike show at any one time, so it was definitely more successful the second day. The atmosphere was much lighter, the music kicked ass, and I even think I saw The Devil smile once. We were having the time of our lives. After two days, the time had come to name the winners of the show.
The lovely ladies who finished 1-3 in the bikini contest were trophy presenters along with some old hack, Bandit. The winners were announced and the crowd went out to enjoy the bikes that won by looking at their kick ass Lucky Devil Metalworks designed trophies. They looked like the state of Texas was on fire; just radical! My favorite bike in the show, listed as a ’02 Pan, also won The Judges Choice Award. Check the winners list below.
All the winners were very gracious, although Billy Akron wasn’t present. He was at the Easyriders show. All in all. it was a great show that will definitely keep growing every year. The bikes were first rate, the music was awesome, and the people running the damn thing were just cool as hell! I will make this an every year show for myself and I hope you do the same.
That night I got to watch Bandit get liquored up on Mai Tai’s at The Safari café. He kept shivering like a little bitch when the mechanical monkeys would come out of the walls and start singing. I think he was just trying to get a feel on Nyla, but that’s just me.We ate dinner and said our goodbyes. My wife and I headed out to check the end of The Rally.
I wanted to thank Kent and Holly weeks for putting on a great show. You guys rock and I hope this work out for ya’ll. You guys letting me hang around you for a few days made my wife think I am less of a stalker, so I may actually get a little action now and again. Due to the twin bitches, hurricanes Rita and Katrina, this bike event was moved from the sweltering heat in September to the more “tropical” climate of November. I am thankful now that it was. This was the 3rd year of this rally, and it was set up perfectly, again. Very classy and well organized from start to finish. The local hotels and restaurants must made a killing throughout the weekend.
If you have never been to Galveston, Texas, the layout is very simple. Basically, once you get to the seawall, everything is on one side, so it’s virtually impossible to get lost. That doesn’t mean I didn’t manage to do so, but I would never admit to it. Once you arrive in the old downtown Galveston, just look for The Strand. That’s where the party was.
For a minimal fee of 5 bucks per bike, you bought a pass to ride down the strand. Everyone needs to ride the strand at least once. I would recommend it Thursday or Friday, because Saturday is just insane. The line to get on The Strand can last more than an hour. Once you get to enter The Strand, the pace is a minimal idle down the strip with erratic burnouts occasionally. It’s amusing to see the women flashing as you ride by and people pawing you. You have to be careful not to run anyone over, cuz people are freaking retarded. The atmosphere is upbeat, and much like a shark feeding frenzy for bikes, food, and beer! What a show!
So, like Sturgis and Daytona, you have a main strip decorated on each parallel street with vendors. Lots and lots of vendors. The great thing about Galveston’s rally is the bikes constantly rumbling by while you check out parts, leathers, and of course eye candy. Although I wasn’t at the rally till the end every night, I did stay till well after midnight. Let me say this, things get crazy after the sun goes down. I saw a wild mix of people, from whole families with little children walking the streets, to girl on girl full lesbianism running rampant down the street, not bad. It was great. My wife attended the rally for the first time with me, and she had a blast. We were there Friday and Saturday evenings, driving the 65 miles home every night. If I would do anything different, I probably would get a hotel room next year. (Maybe we could have more fun like we did Saturday morning, right baby?)
This year’s rally started on a scary note for me. I traded in my 2003 Fatboy on August 18 for a Softail Springer Classic. August 28th, the day after I dropped the bike off at the dealer to check a fuel injection hesitation, the bike had over 7500 dollars worth of damage. Unfortunately, the mechanic test riding the bike was hit and laid the bike over on its side. The dealer handed me the keys to a 2005 Road King to ride during the wait, but I am a very impatient.
Well, I finally received the call Thursday afternoon that my bike is ready. Ecstatic, I trudged through the, ever-slowing work day and prayed for it to end. At 5:01 pm, I headed to the dealer on the 2005 Road King. Now, even though Houston is the 4th largest metropolitan city in the U.S., traffic is really minimal. We have traffic jams occasionally, but for the most part, it’s the ducking and diving nimrods talking on cell phones while they act like they are driving in NASCAR and jabbering on a cell phone. Well, literally less than 2 miles from the dealership, I have an accident on the King.
While driving on loop 610 heading west towards the Main street exit, I get sideswiped by some asshole on the left. He just drove right into my lane smacking my left side at 70mph! I don’t know how I did it, but I kept the bike up. Unfortunately, this cocksmoker didn’t stop, and I wobbled off the freeway by myself. I heard people honking and screaming at him, but I was a distracted with the pain in my left leg and the emergency attempt to keep it upright.
My leg was momentarily pinned between the car and the bike. Throbbing like a sonuvabitch, I barely pulled into the dealer parking lot when the bike stalled out due to the broken clutch housing, which was the only damage on the bike. Thankfully, the dealership was really cool, and they replied with a half-hearted, “Well, I guess we’re even.” I only half laughed. They were really cool about the whole incident, and I wanted to thank Mancuso Harley-Davidson for helping me out with the rental. They were very helpful during this whole ordeal.
By the time I got home, my left leg had swelled to three times its normal size. My wife took one look and made me change into shorts so we could blast across town to the ER. What a disaster that was. After 6 hours, I ended up with x-rays of a badly bruised leg, a lecture on the dangers of motorcycling, and a shiny set of crutches. Miraculously, I awoke the next morning with little more than a bruise and a limp. My body reminded me all weekend to keep my head on a swivel while riding.
The rally was filled with plenty of action between the bands, all local, and the vendors kept my eyes busy. The beer flowed and the fun lasted through the weekend. Sometimes a great party will re-energize you for the rest of the year. Forget the bills, the mortgage, and the kids’ college fund. Forget work, gossip, and neighborhood association letters. Let your hair down and have a great time. Like my Grandpa used to say, “Sometimes a man (or woman) just has to let their hair down and have some fun.”

Overall, the rally was first rate. The attendance seemed a little more manageable this year, but it was still packed. I haven’t been given an official number yet, but I heard the estimate was around 200,000 folks rumbled to the island this year. I could believe that. While the celebrities weren’t here like the big rallies, the fans were. But who cares, the rallies aren’t for the builders and celebrities anyways. This rally is for us, the bikers. They didn’t let us down.

Swedish Custom Bike Show joins Championship affiliate program–REGARDED as one of Europe’s premier bike shows, and cited as the leadingbike show in Sweden, ‘Custom Bike Show’ is the latest European event to jointhe Official European and World Championship of Custom Bike Buildingaffiliate program.
The show is owned and run by Twin Club MC at Norrt?lje, and situated onthe coast (about an hour North East of Stockholm). Held on the firstSaturday of June (June 4th this year), the one-day ride-in event attracted300 exhibitors, 4,000 motorcycles and 10,000 total visitors in 2004. Likethe World and European Championships, the show is ‘open’ in that it mixesprofessional and privateer builders.
Though dominated by air-cooled V-twins, the show also sees stunningcustoms enter. Events include custom bike competitions with six main classesand three overall classes, for best paintwork, people’s choice and jurychoice.
As a European and World Championship affiliate, the winning three bikesand builders in the principal class will receive exposure in AMD andinvitations to attend the European Championship in Germany next March. Theoverall winner will also be invited to attend the World Championship in LasVegas.
With the exception of the jury and people’s choices, all the otherclasses are judged by the builders themselves. The Swedish custom buildingscene is famed for its own ‘Swedish Style’, featuring choppers and longfront ends. But the performance and retro scenes are big in Sweden too.
This year’s European Championship showed that standards in Sweden arehigh, with three of the top 10 bikes being Swedish built. ‘Viridian’ by MikaNieminen and ‘Broken Arrow’ by Stefan Uhlen were among the class winners atthe 2004 Sweden show and came third and fifth respectively in this year’sEuropean Championship.

I haven?t found the answer yet,but I?m working on it. I?ve said this before, but I believe that time ismore precious than cash. Cash can be a pain in the ass. We need enough toget by, but when we start buying more shit, it?s more shit that needsmanagement, maintenance, service, insurance, registration, etc.
I?m going to get off this subject. Nobody can own too many motorcyclesor chase too many girls. So I?m building another one and want more time forfutz with it. So I?m going to go pick up my new computer and jam back tomachine spacers and scramble through fasteners in the shop. It?s going to beweird bike, but I like it.

STEALTH BIKE WORKS REPORT–The beat goes on at STEALTH BIKE WORKS. It has been a roller coaster rideso far to say the least, which was to be expected. The word isgetting out though, as we see more people coming into the shop.
This past week STEALTH BIKE WORKS and “Chopper John” reached andagreement.”Chopper John” will be doing custom sheet metal fabrication. I met “ChopperJohn” about 3 years ago and was impressed with his determination to makesomething different. So if you need some custom metal work done give us acall at 704-882-0889.
The Horse Smoke-Out is fast approaching(June 24th&25th). All the rooms atmyhouse are booked for the weekend. My brother Gary, my buddy Fritz and maybeKevin Baas are all rolling in, so it should be a fun weekend.

MEDICAL MARIJUANA OVERTURNED–In an historic decision today, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6 – 3 that thefederal government can continue arresting patients who are using medicalmarijuana legally under state law. However, the decision did not overturnthe medical marijuana laws in 10 states, which still protect patients fromarrest by state and local police.
The Marijuana Policy Project’s grants program provided the majority ofthe funding for this litigation, which is only the second medical marijuanacase ever to reach the Supreme Court.

Wild West’s Vigilante Gunfire–THE VIGILANTE GUNFIRE, Wild West Motor Company’s new model, is aimed at thehigh end of the custom V-twin market, and is the result of ten year’sexperience of building custom motorcycles.
The company has a broad spread of capabilities, and Paul Seiter -mechanical engineer and now CEO of Wild West – points out that with thiscapacity the company can make all the parts it needs, rather than compromiseits designs by buying in parts from the aftermarket industry.
Features of the Vigilante Gunfire include a 280-series rear tire, frontforks in an inverted style and wheels and brake assemblies formed frombillet aluminum. There is an impressively low 21in seat height, achieved bystoring oil in the frame’s 2in diameter backbone and seat post tubes, ratherthan in a separate tank.
The rest of the frame is fabricated from 1-1/4in tubing with flush axleblocks for a smoother finish, and the overall balance of the bike has beenmaintained with the use of a Baker right-side drive transmission. The280/35×18 rear tire is matched with a 120/70×21 front tire.
The rear end embraces a concept that Wild West calls an ‘IST’ (IntegratedSupport Technology) strutless fender, which uses a hidden mounting systemthat eliminates both struts and the need for visible mounts. The companysays the carbon fiber rear fender offers greater strength in its resistanceto bending and torsion forces than the equivalent steel item.
The bike is powered by a polished 111ci motor, assembled by Wild Westfrom S&S components, with computer-balanced flywheels.
Other features of the bike include the 1-1/4in diameter handlebars, theintegrated German-made Nova MMB speedometer, a single riser and LEDindicator lights. Oil lines are braided steel and the hardware is chromed.
Customers can specify a number of custom options, including paint andwheel size.

BIKERNET RUN TO STURGIS– I’ll give you a brief rundown: The charity efforts are to support the Crazy Horse Monument in the Black Hills. We leave from Phoenix on Wednesday the 3rd of August and ride along warm twisting highways, ducking interstates wherever possible to Durango, Colorado for the night. Then it’s up Thursday morn and down the terrific mountain roads into Aspen, Colorado for the night. Both these towns are knock-outs for terrific restaurants and nightlife. Friday morning we cut a dusty trail north again into Cheyenne and we’re almost home. Saturday we meander up killer roads into the Badlands and Deadwood, but we won’t stop until we reach the Full Throttle Saloon for our first party of the Rally.
Each day will cover 250-300 miles so we’ll roll into town in time to hang out by the pool, hit the gym, shop in town then have a killer meal.
That’s it, you cover the hotels and your expenses, we make all the arrangements and you make a donation to Crazyhorse.

CALIFORNIA DEPUTY?S CAR STOLEN BY GUEST– COMPTON, Calif. A guestwent on a ride-along with a sheriff’s deputy, then stole the deputy’s patrolcar early Wednesday and led police on a chase through three cities,authorities said.Steven Funderburk, 20, was riding with Los Angeles County Deputy AlexanderMiller under a program that allows anyone to accompany an officer if theyhave no felony convictions and fill out an application, authorities said.
When Miller’s shift ended after 1 a.m., Funderburk asked to retrieve hisbag from the car in the parking lot. When Miller returned to check onFunderburk, the car was gone, sheriff’s Sgt. Don Manumaleuna said.Miller was able to talk to Funderburk on the patrol car’s radio andpersuaded him to surrender without incident after a chase through Compton,Long Beach and Westminster, Manumaleuna said.
He was arrested for investigation of possession of a stolen vehicle andevading arrest.Manumaleuna said Funderburk developed a good rapport with Miller during theride-along and did nothing to arouse suspicion.
“It’s very bizarre,” he said. “We’re still trying to figure this oneout.”Authorities said Funderburk had told Miller that he was part of a youthprogram at the Long Beach Police Department, but the department had norecord of his participation

ONLY TWO HOURS?COME ON NOW, SISSIES– A training exercise became a bit too realistic for a group of sheriff’sdeputies, who filed a grievance after their boss ordered them to spend acouple of hours behind bars.Leelanau County Sheriff Mike Oltersdorf last month required his three dozenlaw enforcement and corrections officers to spend two hours in the newcounty jail to prepare for real inmates.
Ten officers filed a grievance May 24 with Pat Spidell, localrepresentative for the Police Officers Association of Michigan.The grievance complains of false imprisonment, Oltersdorf said. He calledthe idea ludicrous.
Oltersdorf, who also spent an hour in jail said theincarceration was on par with other mandatory training, such aspepper-spraying officers or shooting them with stun guns before they carrythose weapons on duty

METH-LAB BUSTS REQUIRE SAFETY–TALLAHASSEE – More meth labs are being found and seized in Florida, and withthem comes increased danger to law enforcement and first responders whoencounter the volatile, sometimes booby-trapped rigs.Florida’s State Fire Marshal this month will start training first responderson how to protect themselves. More than 150 firefighters have signed up.
CFO Tom Gallagher, who oversees the marshal’s office, said the dangerassociated with illegal methamphetamine production requires efforts toprotect officials and the public.”Meth makers are domestic terrorists, no doubt about it,” Gallagher said,likening the illegal labs to “chemical time bombs” that have resulted in 29fires or explosions in the state.
Jeff Land, chief of the East Milton Volunteer Fire Department, wouldwelcome the training. His department was recently called by the Santa RosaCounty Sheriff’s Office, serving a warrant at a house.There was a meth lab. The volunteer fire department didn’t have theequipment or training to act.
The Drug Enforcement Administration says there were 332 meth labs seizedin Florida last year, up from 28 in 2001.
Almost 1,800 first responders in 16 states, including Florida, have beeninjured by meth labs in the four years before June 2004.

This has been an insane week. I?m trying to get back into the fold, yetevery other call is a magazine related project. Then I picked up my SturgisShovel powdered parts and I can?t stay out of the shop. It?s good to beback, but we?re a small staff hustling like crazy preparing for Sturgis, theChoppers Only show in Hawaii on July 4th, and I?m also the Grand Marshallfor the Boys and Girls Club Santa Ana Ride The Coast Chili Cookoff on June26th (info below). I?m thinking about riding the 1928 Shovelhead on thisride. It?s 70 miles along the coast completely escorted by the Santa AnaPolice Department. If you?ve never entered a ride like this one don?t missit.

BANDIT CO-PILOTS WITH DR. HAMSTER IN PANAMERICAN RACE IN OCTOBER?WE?RELOOKING FOR A SPONSOR–Description of our race car,?53 Lincoln Cosmopolitan:Lincoln seemed to go a different way in 1952. An entirely new body style,much more sporting, would be copied by Pontiac in 1955. New ball jointfront suspension and an engine done from a clean sheet of paper. This onewas a properly designed overhead valve V8 of 317ci. At 20 cubic inches lessthan the previous engine it put out 8 more horsepower, being rated at 160.Only one wheelbase was offered and Lincoln split the difference between thetwo used from ’49-’51. Nineteen fifty-two’s would stretch to 123. Somewhaton the small side for the largest Lincoln offering, but this, combined withthe ball joint suspension would make these excellent performers.
Not exactly what a Lincoln had represented, they nonetheless were quitesuccessful in racing. A club even exists today celebrating the cars, TheRoad Race Lincolns. They especially excelled in the Pan American Roadraces. The Hydramatic was made standard and it would not be until the 2000Lincoln LS that a Lincoln would again be available with a manualtransmission. Two trim levels were available. The Cosmopolitan was now theless expensive and the Capri was the top of the line. Weight was about4200 lbs and an average price was $3300.
Since Johnny Boyd first twanged it out in 1960, and Commander Cody passedit to a new generation some 15 years later, it has been applied toeverything from a primered Model A to the forgotten LSC coupe of theEighties. But the real, honest Hot Rod Lincoln was actually a series ofremarkably stock Lincoln Capri hardtops that pulled Ford out of aself-imposed exile from racing that had lasted more than 15 years.
It was a glorious return for Ford, as a factory Lincoln-Mercury teameventually rose to dominance in La Carrera Panamericana, the fabled MexicanRoad Race, the very last of the great long-distance competitions to becontested on public highways in North America. This Capri, which won theevent’s final running in 1954, was the race’s top-finishing stock car,albeit in the hands of an unheralded privateer who hung on after Lincoln’sfactory juggernaut came to grief.
In 1952 and ?53, Lincolns finished first through fourth in the race?sstock car division. Chuck Stevenson won both times, with Smith as co-driver.The 1954 race was won by Ray Crawford in a privately entered Lincoln,prepared by Stroppe, with Walt Faulkner second in a factory car. The otherteam cars dropped out, either through accidents or mechanical problems.
Tech InfoThe all-new Lincoln was launched in 1952 and was built through ’54, and ithad the brand new engine to replace the dated Flathead V8. The new 317ci(5.2-litre) unit was extremely smooth, thanks to eight crankshaftcounterbalances where most V8s had just six, plus it was easily tuned. Thenew car also had a very stiff chassis, with six crossmembers on the separateframe, making the car’s new MacPherson strut suspension work well andimproving the model’s durability. In its inaugural year the Capri took theCarrera Panamericana in first, second, third and fourth places, then did thesame the following year, but just first and second places in 1954. But theCapri boasted more than performance as it also has power-operated leatherseats, power windows, power steering and brakes, and even a Hydramatictransmission. In 1956 the car was dramatically restyled; production fell by50 percent.

Smith attended the Custom Chrome Dealer Show with Senior Sales ExecutiveKurt Peterson to support the company’s product range and announce that S&Shad received confirmation that the first of a series of its best sellingproduct lines had just won T?V approval.
Smith, who was also invited by AMD to be one of the VIP judges for theOfficial European Championship, said that he was “really impressed by thestandard of bikes being built in Europe. This has always been a performanceoriented market characterized by strong technical and engineeringachievement, and choosing from among the entrants is really tough.”
One third of the top thirty bikes in the European Championship were builtusing S&S motors; indeed six of the top ten and all of the first three werebuilt around S&S power plants. When AMD publisher Robin Bradley realizedthis, the idea for Smith to personally recognize a favorite from among thembecame irresistible.
The lucky winner was Gerhard Strubbe of Iron Wing, based at Bremerhavenin Northern Germany.
Strubbe’s ’36 Special’ finished just outside the top 30 in the EuropeanChampionship. But when told of the ‘President’s Pick’ award by AMDco-publisher Sonja Wallace some four weeks after the championship event,Strubbe reaction was excited, and he said he was on cloud-nine.
Brett Smith told AMD: “It is just a personal thing, but given the historyof Harley heritage that is imprinted on my family’s DNA, I couldn’t helpbeing drawn to ’36 Special’ as a beautiful example of an old style bike thatis as faithful as can be to the era it represents, but that clearly offerswonderfully contemporary riding enjoyment.”
The engine is an S&S generator style early Shovelhead, topped by IronWing’s own ‘Knovelhead’ rocker boxes and using 1340cc STD cylinders, anAndrews J Cam, S&S 1340 crank, Velva Touch valves, S&S dual plug heads andArias pistons. Gerhard Strubbe has installed a Dell’Orto 40 carb, a Dyna2000i ignition and the Evo style S&S oil pump.
The ‘Knovelhead’ rockers are cast and laser-cut aluminum designs that useall the components of the Shovelhead rocker box, but in a choice of chrome,polished, lacquered or anodized colors they give a neo-Knucklehead look.
Iron Wing’s client for the bike had presented the company with a pictureof a 1930s 74 inch Big Twin, and the idea eventually agreed was forsomething that was styled after the first EL ‘Knucklehead’, which wasintroduced in 1936. Hence the bike’s name.
The wheels are 16in, 16-spoke Harley cast items, with a German-made SSCcaliper at the front, modified for the reduced diameter rotor. The 6-pistonpulley brake arrangement at the rear is also a German item, fromSpeed-point. The frame is a 1993 ‘Vintage’ softail design from VG MotorcycleProducts of The Netherlands featuring a rigid style front end to accept theoriginal Harley Springer forks.

PATRIOT ACT GOBBLES FREEDOMS–We have to watch more and more what kind of laws get passed. I rememberwhen the R.I.C.O. Bill was passed. They said it was suppose to be for ONLYOrganized Crime (Mafia) They should have included the Federal Government. Well we have seen that law used against motorcycle organizations andIndivuals. Once they get it on the books they keep widening it to includewho or what ever they want. The Editors of Florida Today have the following to say.–Rogue
Patriot Act fears–New proposals would add unchecked police power and further erode civillibertiesIf this doesn’t keep you awake at night, it should.When Congress returns to work this week, it’s headed toward approving broadnew police powers under a reauthorized Patriot Act that would further erodeour civil liberties.And there’s a good chance they’ll do it behind closed doors.That cannot be allowed to happen. And neither can a chilling proposal pushedby the Bush administration that would significantly expand the FBI’sauthority to get its hands on records and monitor mail in terror probeswithout approval from a judge.We’ve reached this point as Congress ponders revisions to the Patriot Act,which was hastily passed after the Sept. 11 attacks to give law enforcementagencies more tools to fight terrorism.
Many of the provisions were certainly necessary, but others mostdefinitely were not.Among them was a section that lets FBI agents obtain search warrants forlibrary records from a secret court and bypass the traditional standard ofshowing probable cause.In other cases, the government can seize whole databases from hospitals andother institutions during an investigation into the background andactivities of a single person.When the Patriot Act was passed, Congress put a sunset provision on somemeasures so they could bere-evaluated later. That time has arrived, with the sections just mentionedneeding repeal; others, revision.
But rather than move in that direction and protect the civil libertiesthat are the foundation of our country, the White House and GOP-controlledCongress are going in the opposite direction.Take the request to increase the FBI’s investigative powers on just aboutany kind of record seizures without a judge’s OK, and without any evidencethe people whose records are being gathered are involved in criminalactivity.
It comes even though Valerie Caproni, the FBI’s general counsel, hastestified that she knows of no cases where national security has beenjeopardized through the current procedure, which requires officials toobtain warrants.
Making matters worse is the Senate Intelligence Committee’s recentdecision to bar the public from Patriot Act hearings, which adds morecredence to righteous fears that our civil liberties are being undercut.
Committee members should open the proceedings when they reconvene thisweek, and stand up for the Constitution by killing the newno-judicial-review proposal and moving to enact other reforms andsafeguards.Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and other administration officials andallies are falsely portraying Patriot Act reformers as trying to tie thehands of law enforcement and hurt national security.
But they never mention that many leading conservatives and conservativegroups are demanding the Patriot Act be revamped.They and countless Americans recognize the rule of law and protecting therights of the individual must prevail over unchecked police power, and thatwe cannot sacrifice our most cherished principles under the guise offighting terrorism.If we do, then the bad guys have won.

BIKERNET RELATIONSHIP ADVICE–My girlfriend and I had been datingfor over a year when we decided toget married. My parents helped us in every way, and my friendsencouraged me.. My girlfriend? She was a dream! There was only onething bothering me.
That one thing was her younger sister. My prospective sister-in-law wastwenty years of age, wore tight miniskirts, and low cut blouses.She would regularly bend down when near me, and I got many a pleasantview of her underwear. It had to be deliberate. She never did it whenshe was near anyone else.
One day little sister calls and asked me to come over to check thewedding invitations. She was alone when I arrived. She whispered to methat soon I was to be married, and she had feelings and desires for methat she could not overcome and did not really want to overcome. Shetold me that she wanted to make love to me just once before I gotmarried and committed my life to her sister. I was in total shock andcould not say a word. She said, “I’m going upstairs to my bedroom, andif you want to go ahead with it just come up and get me.”
I was stunned. I was frozen in shock as I watched her go up the stairs.When she reached the top, she pulled down her panties and threw themdown the stairs at me. I stood there for a moment, then turned and wentstraight to the front door. I opened the door and stepped out of thehouse and walked straight toward my car.
