Hey,
I’m finally getting caught up with the e-mails, I think. Don’t hesitate to send me news again, if I missed posting it. I don’t even know what to comment on, to kick off this extravaganza of news from one end of the world to another, one demographic to another and one market to another.
Here’s some spots. Buell turned our Alaskan Adventure down. I thought it would be a natural to ride around Alaska on Buells. We will film the adventure, plus a six months series of articles will follow our bikes, planning, arrangements and the adventure. How could they go wrong? We needed 6-12 bikes for three weeks.
Bikernet is about to launch a separate metric cruiser department hosted by Josh Placa, called JPBLVD. We know that the metric element is growing, but I didn’t have the resources to cover it on the Bikernet side or the hours, besides some of us are old school and want to stay cemented to the American way of welding shit together. Watch for it. We’ll see if Josh can keep up.
This week blistered with interesting info, downed brothers and heart. Let’s hit the news and maybe, at the end, I can articulate my feelings. If not we’ll have a Jack on the rocks and relax.
BRASS BALLS BOBBERS POSTER SALE– Get an early jump on sprucing up your office, den or garage with Brass Balls Bobbers most excellent poster. It is normally 10 smacks but for all our Bikernet friends it is only $7.50.

BANDIT BED ROLL HAS IT ALL– I thought about the Old West and the bedrolls the cowboys used to carry their shit, and it came to me. Something over the headlight, as long as it wasn’t too heavy, could do the trick. The bike would maintain its nasty profile, I could still pack someone on the back, and carry my shit.
As I wound through the canyon, my mind went to work on the bedroll concept. Could it carry all I wanted to pack? Another question smacked me as I rounded another corner and caught a glimpse of the Pacific lapping the Malibu shores in the distance. What about a tool bag?
Bandit’s Bed Roll is the perfect combo of tool bag and weekender engineered by the man that delivers form and function and keeps your ride looking clean. So pull out your wallet and click here to get your official Bandit Bed Roll Today.

HEARTBREAK IN THE D&D PITS– Bonneville is a wanton woman. She’ll dazzle you with her beauty one minute and break your heart the next. Team D&D Performance Enterprises felt they were on a mission to break the Fat Book Flyer record from 2006. They had the bike, technology and the team to do it. The weather and a few gremlins laid their plan asunder.
Bob Dowdy talks to Bikernet TV before there last attempt. Click here to see the interview and all the Bonneville action on Bikernet TV.
SAVE YOUR FAVORITE MAGAZINE, STOP POSTAL RATE HIKES– In March, the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) voted to implement a massive rate hike for magazines, which puts diverse, independent free speech at risk.
The new rates favors the nation’s largest publishers — like Time Warner who submitted the plan — while unfairly burdening thousands of smaller and independent magazines with much higher postal rates, as high as 20 or 30 percent.
Now it’s up to Congress to reverse the unfair rate hikes and save these important publications. Take Action today!

PROJECT USING LEGEND’S COMPONENTS MAKE AMERICAN BAGGER– I attached some pictures taken by American Bagger. This bike was created by Mike of A-1 Cycles Inc. he used our frame, tank, and handlebars to create a bagger!
–Tyna Bower
The bike is called team player. It’s an A 1 Cycles convertible. Mike used the Independent Cycle Inc softail, drop neck frame, Slither gas tank and ICI pullback bars.
Mike says “I wanted to do this bike to show people that you can go from prostreet to bagger in less than 4 minutes.” Mike entered the bike in “The Boardwalk” in Daytona on Friday and won radical evo. The bike also placed third at the rats hole in Daytona with a solid black paint job, so, as Mike put it, “it placed incredibly well for a solid color bike.”
His web site is www.a1cycles.net please link to it (A-i’s logo is attached) and the American Bagger website…www.americanbagger.com. The bike will be featured in a upcoming issue of the magazine.

HINES DEFENDS LAS VEGAS PRO STOCK MOTORCYCLE VICTORY; MAINTAINS COUNTDOWN POINTS LEAD–LAS VEGAS (Oct. 29, 2007) – Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines Motorsports rider Andrew Hines experienced a completely different feeling at the ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals on Sunday.
Hines was calm.
The three-time defending NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Motorcycle champion didn’t have the usual butterflies normally associated with a big race weekend. As if the 15th of 16 Pro Stock Motorcycle events wasn’t pressure-packed enough every other year, this season the stakes were much higher.
The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway was the first of two final events in the Countdown to the Championship. Only four racers in each professional category have qualified to race for the 2007 crowns.
Hines walked into Las Vegas with a 10-point lead. He’s leaving with a 39-point lead following his victory.
“It really was the strangest day I’ve ever had in racing,” Hines said. “Everything was nice and smooth and there weren’t any issues on the bike or with anything else. I give all the credit for this unusually calm and great day to my team. They did a great job preparing the V-Rod for competition and I was ready to go without the butterflies because of it.
“It was an excellent day. We won the race and extended our points lead and it is all pretty overwhelming. I can’t wait to get to the season finale.”
Hines beat Shawn Gann and the Race Girl/Lucas Oil Suzuki team in the first round. Hines recorded a 7.053-second pass at 188.49 mph to top Gann’s 7.217 at 186.15. Hines earned a second round victory over Chris Rivas and the Torco Buell team with a 7.085 at 187.83 over Rivas’ 7.157 at 182.62.
Hines earned his 22nd career final round appearance with his semifinal matchup win over Matt Smith and the Torco Race Fuels Buell. Hines won with a 7.086 pass at 186.92, beating Smith’s 7.096 at 186.43.
With a final round victory over Chip Ellis, Hines earned his 13th career victory. Hines rode to the quarter-mile victory with a 7.073 run at 187.34 to beat Ellis’ 7.144 at 185.41 on his Buell.
“With one race left we have a 39-point lead and that’s a great position to be in,” Harley-Davidson Racing Manager Anne Paluso said. “The team has worked extremely hard to overcome some challenges this season and put us in a position to compete for the championship. The work paid off this weekend. It was a great race and we’re proud of the way everyone performed under the pressure of battling for a record number of championships.”
The victory was the second consecutive for Hines at Las Vegas. With one race remaining (the Auto Club Finals in Pomona, Calif., Nov. 1-4) Hines is aiming for history.
Hines is tied with two other racers, older brother and current crew chief Matt Hines and Angelle Sampey, as the only riders in NHRA history to win three consecutive titles. If Hines can win the championship this year, he will be the first rider in NHRA history to win four consecutive crowns.
“It’s nice knowing we have a little bit of a cushion in the point standings going into Pomona, but that won’t change our goals of trying to win rounds and win the race,” Hines said. “Almost any other time of year it’s nice to have a week or two off after you win a race so you can savor the victory. But I’m very happy we race before the week is out. The team is focused and I’m excited about this Countdown to the Championship.”
Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines Motorsports teammate Eddie Krawiec qualified in the No. 5 position before losing to Geno Scali and the Performance Machine Suzuki team in the first round.

AMERICAN ROAD SHOP GIVES SPORTSTER FOR CHILDREN’S LEUKEMIA FOUNDATION–Highland, MICH. October 15, 2007 American Road Shop Bike Night’s recurring theme is “Lifestyle is a choice.” The choice was clear for many bikers to head to 59 West in Highland, Michigan, on Tuesday nights from May to September and take part in weekly bike contests, raffles and the chance to win a brand new Harley-Davidson Sportster from ABC Harley Davidson.
They also held a 50/50 drawing for the third year in a row with 50% of the proceeds going to the winner and 50% to the Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan (CLF), which was over $2000 this year.
Thanks to ABC Harley Davidson’s involvement, this marked the third year that American Road Shop gave away a FREE Sportster. Tickets to enter the drawing were free, one per person each Tuesday. A rotating bike contest was held each week, with awards given for the most chrome, the longest bike, the oldest bike driven up and the best amateur custom. Each winner received a $25 gift certificate from American Road Shop and a $25 certificate from 59 West. Also, every Tuesday throughout the summer, names were drawn for door prizes, Bike Night Tee Shirts, vendor giveaways and more. With 100-150 bikes on an average night to 350 bikes and about 500 people on the final night, the third year of American Road Shop’s Bike Night, co-sponsored by ABC Harley-Davidson and Coors Light, was extremely successful.
59 West is Oakland County’s best kept secret, with a bistro & billiards bar, fine dining restaurant, 7,000 sq. ft. fitness facility and two huge banquet halls. This is the third year they hosted the American Road Shop Bike Night, and also the third year that all the raffle proceeds went to the Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan (CLF).
American Road Shop co-owner Tim Beaubien said, “The last bike night of the year is always a big night for us, we give the bike away and we tally the final count for CLF. This year was particularly gratifying, not only did we have the best year donation for CLF but both Barb and myself had people coming up to us and thanking us for hosting this bike night. That made all the work worth it.”
If you are in the Waterford, MI area, stop and visit their 3400 sq ft store at 7554 Highland Road, Waterford, MI 48327, located on Highland Rd. (M-59) just east of Williams Lake Rd. or you can visit them online at www.americanroadshop.com

MOVIE BIKE HIT’S CYCLE SOURCE COVER–Just got some great news to pass on from the crew at the Cycle Source Magazine. In addition to some killer coverage from Sturgis, we have a movie bike ever featured in our pages, “Grindhouse” movie bike. Not only does this mark the first time a movie? bike has graced our cover, but it also ties into another passion a few of us have for the old B rate horror movies and cult classics.
The Grindhouse is a new double feature with two movies, “Death Proof” from Quentin Tarantino and “Planet Terror” from Robert Rodriguez. The movies are sure to be instant cult classics.
Our buddy from the Great White North, Konstantine Zakzanis is the owner of this West Coast Chopper, and he was cool enough to turn us on to it. You can pick up both of these movies now and the November ’07 issue of Cycle Source is on newsstands today.

NEW ISOLATED DRIVE SPROCKET SYSTEM FOR TOURING MODELS–MILWAUKEE (Sept. 28, 2007) – The new Isolated Drive System Sprocket Kit (P/N 40287-07, $305.00) from Harley-Davidson Genuine Motor Accessories improves rider comfort and ride quality by dampening the mechanical noise and vibration caused by engine torque pulses. Introduced as original equipment on 2008 Touring models, the rubber compensation elements in the sprocket act like a cushion, absorbing the power pulses from the engine. With the IDS installed, the motorcycle feels smoother and is quieter while accelerating, shifting and cruising.
Kit includes sprocket, compensator bowl, and installation hardware. Fits 2007 Touring models equipped with original equipment and most Harley-Davidson Genuine Motor Accessory wheels. Does not fit with 80-Spoke Laced Wheel P/N 42954-04, Polished Spun Aluminum Disc Wheel P/N 43760-03 or Slotted Six Spoke Wheel P/N 43932-02 (chrome) or 43933-02 (black).

THAT’S IT, BREAK OUT THE ROTTEN LEMON AND CAPTAIN MORGAN RUM–I feel like a pirate being chased by the entire British Navy. I’m so behind I feel like I’m dragging the anchor. Hell, the brothers on the Bikernet Forum board just told me I’m writing a 1%er book that I didn’t know about.
Here’s the line-up for this weekend and next week. I’m suppose to have breakfast with Mil Blair and his partner tomorrow about the Pegasus EFI system they designed, then shoot over to Gene Koch’s pad and help him pack. He’s had it with Califa. He’s moving back to Minnesota. Then I need to launch a bike feature or the GOB from Colorado and start to put the Assalt Weapan back together for California Bike week and read the final chapter of the Bikernet Bonneville Build for the Wolfgang book.
Am I getting warmed up yet. Sunday my assignments call for scrambling to Ma’s house, since I missed her 85th Birthday and handle her honey-do’s. She just got back from a jazz festival in Sun Valley, Idaho, drove to Palm Springs to help a friend and she’s leaving for India next week. So, now you know where I get all the energy. Sunday we will also deliver a stellar Sunday Post.
Monday we will hit it hard with features, action from Hawaii, Smoke Out coverage from Canada (he rode all the way), Kirk’s tech, a Feature on the winner of the Easyriders Rodeo Knockout giveaway bike and a controversy building around Lil’ Joe’s Legendary Leathers and Torrian, made in Pakistan. We’re gonna have a vest off. Plus I’ll work on the Bonneville book and write the evil tale of roaches and Hawaiian club action at the grand opening of Pro Street Custom Cycles.
As Tuesday sparks to life, my keyboard will catch fire as I work with the Italian Redhead who makes badass seats on her tech and dig for the story behind the Charlie Brechtal girls. This should be a good one. I’m also working with Gard Hollinger on his Build-off Bike Feature and another road story from India. Well that should launch the week.
Let’s Ride

DAGO COUNTY HAMSTERS CHECKIN’ IN–It is now 6:00 pm. I believe all Hamsters here are in safe territory now, with no loss of homes. The fires still do rage on, so we will see what tonight brings. I am sure that the TV coverage shows plenty, but I have attached some photos from my house as the fire moved in at night, then photos from the next day. Many, many people had it much worse (everything gone) but these are on my street and around the house. Ash everywhere, but the air is now clearing in my area, and the winds have let up.
Again we all thank you for the kind thoughts and support.

It has about 600 photos. It covers choosing a painter, getting the most for your money, picking and learning about color and design, and chapters on flames, graphics and murals.

SVENMEISTER HARDCORE KUSTOMS REPORT–THIS FUCKIN’ SUCKS!– I just got run over a pick up truck backing up at a stop light. I’m fine but the bike’s fucked up! Of course the jackass did a hit and run…
Anyways, wanted to let you know that we are going to move from one garage to another one. Business is not going well enough to open up a shop and I could not find those investors either…
Anyways, other than that I think SHK is on it’s way up to get a bunch of recognition. At the Rat’s Hole Custom Bike Show the “Gobber” scored a big ass first place trophy in it’s class and the “B-72” got 2nd.
There was a bunch of interest from bike magazines for our bikes. On the newsstands are www.custombike-magazine.de and www.barnettsmagazineonline.com which feature our bikes.
Also keep an eye out for www.backstreetheroes.com (UK mag) and The Horse. Barnett’s is gonna do a full feature of the “B-72” so are a couple of European rags! After all, SHK is stoked to finally hit the right track.
There are still a lot of shirts sitting in a closet that need to be bought so make sure you’ll hit www.svenmeisterhardcorekustoms.com/shkshirts.htm up and get yourself one before they get more expensive!!!If for some reason you don’t wanna receive emails from us anymore just reply this and write “unsubscribe” into subject.Hope I did not make to many mistakes in the writing part ….still shakin’.

BIKERNET HALLOWEEN ADVICE–Some people are just never happy with what they have or what they get!A bald man with a wooden leg is invited to a Halloween party. He doesn’t know what costumeto wear to hide his head and his leg, so he writes to a costume company to explain his problem.
A few days later, he received a parcel with the following note:
Dear Sir,Please find enclosed a pirate’s outfit. The spotted handkerchief Will cover your bald headand, with your wooden leg, you will be just right as a pirate.
Very truly yours,
Acme Costume Co.
The man thinks this is terrible because they have emphasized his wooden leg and so he writes a letter of complaint.
A week goes by and he receives another parcel and a note, which says:
Dear Sir,Please find enclosed a monk’s habit. The long robe will cover your Wooden leg and, with your bald head, you willreally look the part.
Very truly yours,
Acme Costume Co.
Now the man is really upset since they have gone from emphasizing his wooden leg to emphasizing his bald head so againhe writes the company another nasty letter of complaint.
The next day he gets a small parcel and a note, which reads:
Dear Sir,
Please find enclosed a bottle of molasses and a bag of crushed nuts. Pour the molasses over your bald head, pat on crushed nuts, stick your wooden leg up your ass and go as a caramel apple.
Very truly yours,
Acme Costume Co

SHERIFF JOE IS AT IT AGAIN–Maricopa County was spending approx. $18 million dollars a year on stray animals, like cats and dogs. Sheriff Joe offered to take the department over, and the County Supervisors said okay. The animal shelters are now all staffed and operated by prisoners. They feed and care for the strays.
Every animal in his care is taken out and walked twice daily. He now has prisoners who are experts in animal nutrition and behavior. They give great classes for anyone who’d like to adopt an animal. He has literally taken stray dogs off the street, given them to the care of prisoners, and had them place in dog shows.
The best part? His budget for the entire department is now under $3 million Teresa and I adopted a Weimaraner from a Maricopa County shelter two years ago. He was neutered, and current on all shots, in great health, and even had a microchip inserted the day we got him. Cost us $78.
The prisoners get the benefit of about $0.28 an hour for working, but most would work for free, just to be out of their cells for the day. Most of his budget is for utilities, building maintenance, etc. He pays the prisoners out of the fees collected for adopted animals.
I have long wondered when the rest of the country would take a look at the way he runs the jail system, and copy some of his ideas. He has a huge farm, donated to the county years ago, where inmates can work, and they grow most of their own fresh vegetables and food, doing all the work and harvesting by hand. He has a pretty good sized hog farm, which provides meat, and fertilizer. It fertilizes the Christmas tree nursery, where prisoners work, and you can buy a living Christmas tree for $6 – $8 for the Holidays, and plant it later. We have six trees in our yard from the Prison. Yup, he was reelected last year with 83% of the vote.
Now he’s in trouble with the ACLU again. He painted all his buses and vehicles with a mural, that has a special hotline phone number painted on it, where you can call and report suspected illegal aliens. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement wasn’t doing enough in his eyes, so he had 40 deputies trained specifically for enforcing immigration laws, started up his hotline, and bought 4 new buses just for hauling folks back to the border.
He’s kind of a “Git-R Dun” kind of Sheriff.

MOTO-ST GST DAYTONA REPORT–Daytona Beach, FL — James Gang/Hoban Brothers Racing riders Paul James, Jeff Johnson and Walt Sipp finished third in class and twelfth overall at the MOTO-ST 8 Hours at Daytona season finale. It was the #70 Buell team’s fourth Grand Sport Twins (GST) podium finish in the deepest, and most competitive field of the season.
James Gang/Hoban Brothers Racing ended the season third in MOTO-ST GST championship points with one win, one second place and two third place finishes. The team never finished outside the top five.
“Daytona’s Victory Lane is a sweet place to end the MOTO-ST season,” said team owner Paul James. “After finishing on the box in all three MOTO-ST events held so far at Daytona, we’ve come to expect nothing less.”
“It was a great weekend for our team,” said Hoban Brothers’ John Dahmer. “Our riders clicked off consistent lap times, our pit stops were solid and our 2008 Buell Thunderstorm engine worked flawlessly. It was a total team effort.”
The team’s Buell Firebolt XB12R completed 216 laps of the 3.5 mile Daytona International Speedway road course during the 8 hour event and passed the post race dyno test with the same horsepower as measured before the start of practice the day before.
In the Championship Cup Series races held at Daytona during the same weekend, team rider Jeff Johnson won the CCS Lightweight Formula 40 National Championship race aboard his Hoban Brothers Racing Buell. James took third in CCS Lightweight SuperSport, fourth in GT Lights and fifth in SuperTwins aboard his Buell.
“The Buell XB12R has been a good endurance racing platform for us,” said Crew Chief Mike Kirkpatrick. “We kept the bike mostly stock and had strong, consistent results. We’re already looking forward to next season.”

THE IRISHMAN AND THE MORMON–The Mormon was seated next to an Irishman on a flight from London. After the plane was airborne, drink orders were taken. The Irishman asked for a wiskey, which was promptly brought and placed before him.
The flight attendant then asked the Mormon if he would like a drink. He replied in disgust, ‘I’d rather be savagely raped by a dozen whores than let liquor touch my lips.’
The Irishman then handed his drink back to the attendant and said, ‘Me, too, I didn’t know we had a choice.’

THANKS TO THE MOUNTAIN STATE–ABATE of WV recently made a trip to DC to lobby their members of the Houseand Senate. The Capitol Hill newbies (it was the first time lobbying DCfor the group) put together a first-rate trip and had appointments withevery member of the WV delegation.
The three-person lobby team allowed theMRF to join them in all of their meetings. It was a successful day to saythe least. The high point was meeting with the senior senator from WV,Robert Byrd. Senator Byrd has the distinction of being one of the longestserving Senators in history. He is currently the President Pro Tempore ofthe Senate, which puts him third in line to the Presidency shouldsomething happen to the VP and the Speaker of the House. Senator Byrdwelcomed us into his palatial office suite in the Capitol, got up from hislunch of a cheese sandwich and a pickle (this guy is as humble as theycome) and chatted about motorcycles for more than a few minutes.
SenatorByrd has served West Virginia for over 50 years and has done the mountainstate proud. Say what you will about his politics, but he has created alegacy that will stand for decades to come. Keep up the good work Senatorand let the MRF know when you are ready for that motorcycle ride.
MOTORCYCLE VEHICLE MILES TRAVELED–Last week the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) held a unique event, the Motorcycle Travel Symposium, a three-day meeting aimed at improvingthe data used to calculate motorcycle vehicle miles traveled (VMT).
VMT numbers are used to calculate a number of transportation data points. Most noteworthy is the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) used byNHTSA to determine the percentage of fatality rates per miles traveled byany given mode of transportation.
Good data is important here because ifthe number of actual miles traveled is not accurate, then it makes thatparticular form of transportation appear deadlier than it really may be.You can listen to a detailed presentation on how motorcycle VMT numbersaffect FARS data by visiting the archives of the MRF’s 2005 Meeting of theMinds at http://www.inbradio.com/media/archives/mrf/motm2005.html.
Up until now it has been optional for states to report any VMT formotorcycles, but that has changed. Starting in June 2008, motorcycle datais no longer optional for states to report to the feds. Remember hearingthat no motorcycles travel in South Dakota?
The MRF and SMROs havequestioned the inaccuracy of motorcycle VMT numbers for several years, andthe feds have finally put a stop to that nonsense. You can read moreabout the MRF’s research into motorcycle VMT numbers on the MRF’s websiteathttp://www.mrf.org/articles/2005/05NR2105nr21nomotorcyclestravelinsouthdakota.htm.
So why did the FHWA need to have a three-day meeting to address thisissue? What is the real problem with collecting accurate VMT numbers formotorcycles? Apparently everything. Let’s start with the technologicalissues. The actual technology used to collect data was designed for carsand trucks, not motorcycles. The small signature of motorcycles isdifficult to capture using the tube or hose capture methods. Often timesthe tubes are only stretched across half a lane giving ample room for themotorcycle to simply go around the foreign object in the road.
Some of thenewer laser technology may be promising, but it’s expensive and easilythrown off calibration by weeds, snow or curious animals. Some of thevideo collection technology shows some promise, but it too is expensiveand difficult to maintain. With dwindling money at state DOTs, newpurchases of pricey video cameras and lasers just is not a widespreadoption.
Then there’s the human factor. It is common knowledge that a large numberof motorcyclists spend more time on the road from Friday to Sunday. Thisintuition is backed up by the National Household Transportation Survey, aphone study conducted by the feds that surveys 20,000 plus households ontheir respective travel habits. Questions include what type of vehiclesyou own, when and where are you using those vehicles, how many licenseddrivers are under your roof, and so on. This study reported that almost 40percent of all motorcycle travel occurs on the weekends. That becomes aproblem because most of the state employees hired to physically collectthe data only work Monday through Thursday, so any weekend travel goesunmonitored. Seasons also skew the data, for most northern states see veryfew motorcycles during winter months and the state DOTs don’t adjust forthat.
Another major problem is where the VMT data is collected. Most of thestates collect data on roads that see the most use by cars and trucks.Think of major interstates, multilane highways and other heavily traveledroads, bridges and tunnels. Now think of where most motorcycle ridesoccur, on back roads, scenic byways and other out-of-the-way streets. Mostmotorcyclists purposefully avoid the heavy congestion of an urbanenvironment in favor of lesser-traveled roads with less heavy trucktraffic. The statistic commonly used by the states is that they surveyjust 23% of the roads and leave the other 77% that are generally theresponsibility of smaller entities such as townships and villages alone. That’s a major discrepancy and a fatal flaw of the VMT data formotorcycles.
It’s refreshing, to say the least, that the federal government is finallytaking a good hard look at the validity of the motorcycle VMT data. Nowthe hard part, committing precious resources toward improving the datacollection. Simply mandating that the data be reported next year will notautomatically ensure accurate numbers, and some argue just the opposite. Now that the states have to do more with the same amount of resources, itmay have the effect of fictitious numbers reported just to comply withanother federal directive.
Much work remains, but this is without question a tremendous step forward, and the MRF will continue tomonitor and report any progress.

BIKERS PROTEST, PUERTO RICO SUSPENDS CONTROVERSIAL NEW LAW–A day after being implemented, the toughest motorcycle law in the country was suspended by Puerto Rico’s legislature after bikers protested the onerous new rules.
Among the requirements; riders on the sun-soaked tropical island must wear gloves, boots and long pants. In addition to the required riding gear, the law would also force operators of all two-wheeled motor vehicles, including mopeds and scooters, to wear reflective vests from 6 p.m. – 6 a.m.
The U.S. Territory already has a helmet law. The new law also slashes the legal Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) for motorcycle riders to .02, the same as for school bus and commercial truck drivers, down from .08 allowed for car drivers. No one under 18 is allowed to operate a motorcycle, and no one under 12 is allowed to ride as a passenger. The Caribbean island also enacted a tougher licensing process and increased fees for motorcycle endorsements and registrations. Lane-sharing to filter through heavy traffic is now specifically prohibited.
Motorcycle and scooter registrations in Puerto Rico have more than doubled since 2000, and sponsors of the measure say the tougher regulations are in response to increasing numbers of accidents and fatalities.
Governor Anibal Acevedo Vila signed the bill into law on Wednesday, October 10, amid the roar of hundreds of bikers revving by his San Juan residence in protest, and on Thursday the legislature moved to temporarily suspend the new law. The Senate unanimously backed a moratorium on the law until Feb. 18, and the House approved plans to delay its implementation for at least three months, as legislators told the Associated Press they need more time to consult scooter and motorcycle enthusiasts who object to the stricter rules.

Tolkin penned “1%” and is exec producing the pilot with Management 360’s Alex Hertzberg and Guymon Casady.

The event featured record attendance of 563 participants and provided women the chance to experience the corners on the track aboard a Buell motorcycle as well as enjoy the open road on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. “It was exciting for the Company to be part of Femmoto again this year and watch women really enjoy the track experience with the Buell demos and the street experience with the Harley demos,” said Karen Davidson. “There was a great deal of enthusiasm for the Harley demos from the women who were devoted sport bike riders, many of whom had never ridden cruisers let alone a Harley. Their smiles said it all.” Harley-Davidson and Buell’s hospitality tent provided women the chance to view the new 2008 Harley-Davidson Softail Rocker C as well as the new Buell 1125R, learn about Harley-Davidson’s Rider’s Edge and Rentals programs, try on MotorClothes and sit back and relax with motorcycling videos, magazines and free ice cream. Both Harley-Davidson and Buell demo riders received a free t-shirt and the chance to sign up to win raffle prizes given away each day. The Femmoto banquet held Saturday included a Fashion Show and unique Moto-Mate contest, similar in format to the Newlywed Game, but featuring motorcycle-related questions. Four couples competed and had the crowd laughing at some of the answers. The winning couple received a gift certificate for Harley-Davidson MotorClothes. Femmoto, which began in 2001 as a women-only track day event, has evolved into a track and street demo event focused on women, while allowing men the chance to take street demos along side their women. In 2006, 330 women participated in Femmoto. This year, with the inclusion of men taking street demos as well as Friday’s track day where men and women could ride their personal motorcycles on the track, total attendance increased to 563 participants. Femmoto raises money for The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation “Race For The Cure”. This year, $13,188 was raised through Femmoto memberships, donations and auction events held over the weekend. Hey,
Damn it’s Friday and we take half days off on Friday, but we didn’t finish the news on Thursday, since most of the day was spent on a plane, although I did grapple with a laptop.
We’ll jump right into the news, so I can figure out the rest of the mess on my desk. We’re scrambling with projects, features, books and event coverage. Hang on.
Sorry we’re late with this week’s news. It’ll never happen again-yeah right!
JIMS BIKERNET TOOL OF THE WEEK–(Cleveblock) Bushing Assembly Rear Swing Arm Assembly ToolUse to remove and replace swing arm cleveblocks.

Legend has it that Evil Road Spirits have been latching themselves on to motorcycles for as long as there have been bikes on the road. These Evil Road Spirits are responsible for mechanical problems and bad luck along the journey.Legend goes on to say that by attaching a small bell onto your scoot, the Evil Road Spirits will become trapped inside the bell where the constant ringing drives them insane, making them lose their grip until they fall to the ground. (Ever wonder where potholes come from.)Legend also has it that the Freedom Bell carries twice as much power when purchased by a friend or loved one and given as a gift.

ARIZONA TOWN NOT SO CARE FREE ABOUT NOISE–Carefree, Arizona has been on the bikers’ radar screen for their controversial noise ordinance, but now the Town Council has voted unanimously to lower speed limits on its main thoroughfare, and elevate noise infractions for first-time offenders from a civil citation to a Class 1 misdemeanor and possible jail time.
The changes take effect in November and targets motorcycles that exceed an 85-decibel noise limit. Instead of a $175 ticket, violators can be fined as much as $2,500 and sentenced to up to 180 days in jail.
In addition to beefing up punishment to crack down on noisy bikes, the council also voted to reduce the speed limit on Cave Creek Road, the gateway between Phoenix and bars in downtown Cave Creek, from 35mph down to 25mph.

THE ULTIMATE QUESTION, WATER OR COKE?–Through extensive Bikernet Research at the University of Bikernet Downunder Lab, in Sidney, Australia, here are our findings, beginning with water:
#1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half the world population.)
#2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is mistaken for hunger.
#3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one’s metabolism as 3%.
#4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.
#5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
#6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
#7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.
#8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%., and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of water you should drink every day?
COKE
#1. In many states the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.
#2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke and it will be gone in two days.
#3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the “real thing” sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.
#4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminium foil dipped in Coca-Cola.
#5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.
#6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.
#7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.
#8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.
FOR YOUR INFORMATION:
#1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase of osteoporosis.
#2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup! (the concentrate) the commercial trucks must use a hazardous Material place cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.
#3. The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean engines of the trucks for about 20 years!
Now the question is, would you like a glass of water? or Coke?

CONGRESS FORMS MOTORCYCLE CAUCUS–The U.S. House of Representatives has formed a motorcycle safety caucus, and riders are urged to contact their motorcycle-friendly Reps and ask them to join. A caucus is a group within a legislative body that is assembled to represent a specific interest or influence a particular area of policy. The motorcycle caucus will focus on ways that Congress can improve and advance motorcycle safety efforts.
To become part of this first-ever motorcycle safety caucus, interested House members should contact either caucus co-chairs, Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) or Michael Burgess (R-TX).
Giffords, a freshman member of Congress and an avid motorcycle rider herself, said “We know from national studies that in almost two-thirds of fatal car/motorcycle crashes, the fault was with the driver of the car. We can do more to address this critical problem, and public education is a key to bringing about awareness and a reduction in such accidents.”
Burgess is a long time supporter of motorcycling who said he is looking forward to working with motorcyclists across the country on motorcycle safety, education and awareness issues.
MOTORCYCLES TO REMAIN LESS THAN 100 HP IN FRANCE–Bad news for French motorcycle riders. The almighty and powerful European Commission has ruled that France is in its legal rights to limit motorcycle power to 100 horsepower.
The French Association of Angry Bikers (FFMC — Federation Francaise des Motards en Colere) sued the French state and took them to the European courts.
Apparently, having uniform laws in Europe only apply to anything except motorcycles, said the FFMC about the ruling. The EC stated that each country could impose their own restrictions.
The FFMC countered that an extensive study by Dutch TNO showed no correlation between accidents and motorcycles with more power than 100 H.P.
So riding in France on a French-registered motorcycle means you can only have 100 H.P., while anyone else riding in France can ride whatever they want, on the same road, with the same traffic, and cars are not included in the restriction.
The FFMC vows that they are not going to let this go?stay tuned!
BMF WHEELS, INC. LAUNCHES INTO THE TRUCK MARKET–Orange, CA – Brock Weld and Blake Ramthun have started a new wheel company called BMF Wheels featuring an innovative fusion of forged wheel styling with cast wheel technology.

Brock Weld, formerly of Weld Racing Wheels, has many years experience manufacturing and selling high-performance wheels. Weld Racing Wheels was sold to American Racing/Platinum Equity in 2006. After the sale, Weld left to build his own wheel company with his business partner Blake Ramthun. “I knew that I had no desire to work for anyone except myself,” said Weld. “I want to focus on the products and customers I know best; the lifted truck market is what BMF is all about.”
Blake Ramthun, formerly of Weld Racing Wheels and Pacific Wheel Distributors, has worked in the automotive aftermarket for over 15 years and has worked with Brock Weld for the past seven. “At a time when the wheel industry is overloaded with old designs and poor customer service we know BMF can bring products no one has ever seen before and customer service that is second to none,” said Ramthun.
BMF Wheels will be releasing more information on designs and fitments in both print and on its Web site soon. For further information, please visit www.bmfwheels.com or call (888) 313-2580.

RICK FAIRLESS AND JT MEET ROSS PEROT–This past weekend Rick got a call from none other than Ross Perot asking him to help pull a prank on his buddy’s wife by delivering a bad-ass chopper to his house. Rick agreed, of course, and it turned out that Mr. Perot’s buddy was none other than Norman Brinker of Brinker International (owner of Chili’s restaurants, etc)!
So Saturday morning Rick and Joe T delivered a Big Bear Chopper to the Brinker’s home and were able to meet both Mr. Perot and Mr. Brinker and talk about the good ol’ days when Mr. Brinker used to be an avid rider.
Having been hurt in a polo match years ago, Brinker is no longer able to ride, but still remembers the ride fondly. Both Perot and Brinker were great people and Rick and Joe T were honored to have met them.

MORE FROM THE TEXAS NATIONAL BIKE SHOW IN GALVESTON– I wanted to share some Texas National Bike Show information with everyone out there in Bikernet land, Our Bikini Show this year is going to be HOT! We feel very fortunate to have the lovely Laura Gonzalez , our Miss Lucky Devil on our team this year.
Laura won the coveted title of “Miss Lucky Devil” at last years Texas National Bike Show and we love her so much that we intend to keep her around to represent us again this year (not to mention the fact that she is beautiful and I find the guys really like to look at her). She has kindly consented to head up the bikini show this year and promises to fill our venue with beautiful girls. Lots of beautiful girls! Did I mention lots of beautiful girls?
Laura models for some very prestigious agencies in town including Premeir Promotions (where we met her), and has been in numerous TV commercials and several Latin Television shows. She also is a Miller Lite girl and gets quite a bit of exposure (not that kind) doing print work too. She has done several bike photo shoots here at the Devil’s playground with our good friend Darryl Briggs and is quite comfortable on, around and under ….. the bikes.
We are looking forward to another shoot with her in the coming weeks and would like nothing more than to see our girl become an even bigger star than she already is.
Last I spoke to her she was jetting off to Hawaii for the Miss Hawaiian Tropic contest where no doubt she will do very well, (NEWS FLASH! Laura placed in the top 20 out of more than 100 girls), oh yeah and one more thing about our girl… she ain’t no dummy she has a degree in International Business, so watch out boys Beauty and Brains a combination that can’t be beat.
Laura will be down at the Texas National Bike Show running the bikini show for us, but hopefully we can talk her into an autograph session on Saturday morning before all of the madness ensues. We will have her posters on display so make sure to drop by and see Laura and all of the other lovely ladies she will be bringing to the show on Saturday afternoon.
Remember the Texas National is just 2 weeks away, November 1st through 3rd and we do have a few spots left to compete for trophies and other prizes so check out the web site
PACK YOUR BAGS–Either come to Hawaii and hang out for the weekend at Pro Street Custom Cycles, head to Daytona for Biketoberfest, or make plans to ride across Alaska with us. What the hell, you only go around once.
We always need tool kits for the road. Here’s Dominic’s design from Star West (www.starwestinc.com). I’ll roadtest this batch of tools in Alaska. It’s a good tight set, a place to start.
You may need to hang on for a week to ten days, then we’ll bring you Smoke Out West reports, including our ride out from Parker Arizona.
Here’s an example of the Smoke Out Bikernet Trophy, that got lost, then found and delivered to Route 66 Choppers for their board track bike. That’s the gangster High School shop teacher who made the trophy, Kevin Baas. Don’t piss off the teacher.
Get this, I was asked to choose one of the bikes in the Smoke Out show for a Bikernet Award. I decided to pick a few bikes and see who didn’t win in another category. Didn’t want to see all the trophies go to one bike. I picked 66, 60 and 06. Is that strange or what?
The mystery continues. None of these bikes were picked for HORSE trophies. When I returned to the judge?s station to find out who owned 66, his paper work had mysteriously disappeared. The investigation continues. So I decided to give two trophies, but we’re still wandering around aimlessly looking for an owner. Is it 66 and 6? The terror builds.
Let’s Ride

DELRAY BEACH DITCHES MOTORCYCLE BAN IDEA, AMENDS NOISE LAW– City votes instead to stiffen fines for noise along stretch of Atlantic
WE WON! AND YOUR CALLS AND EMAILS HELPED MAKE IT HAPPEN!
Fellow Freedom Fighters:
I attended the protest rally at the Delray Beach, FL City Hall last night, but by the time I finished directing traffic–flagging bikers in at the semi-hidden turn of off Atlantic Avenue–the meeting room was filled and no more people were allowed in. Biker Tammy Jenkins is preparing a transcript for us, however, which I should be able to share through our forum in a few days.
I spoke with several attendees after the meeting, all of whom confirmed this news article quote: “Officials were inundated with e-mails and calls from all over the country asking them to reconsider, they said.”
So let me say THANK YOU to all who responded to the recent call-to-action, because your calls and emails helped make this happen. In fact, the City Commission did not even hold a public forum before voting to back away from the motorcycle ban!
This war is not over, but our “air power” won the first battle without the troops on the ground having to fire a shot!
THANK YOU FOR ANSWERING OUR CALLS-TO-ACTION!

BIKERNET MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP SEMINAR–Microchip Technology Inc. Chief Executive Officer Steve Sanghi offers practical help for your real-life business challenges.
Question: I’m a middle manager for a medium-size company. I’m trying to continuously improve my managerial skills to grow in the company. I continuously come across the words “Manager” and “Leader” used interchangeably. How would you describe the difference between a manager and a leader?
-Charles, Chandler Answer: Congratulations for committing yourself to continuous improvement, and thank you for asking this very thoughtful question. There are very significant differences between a manager and a leader.
A manager can be assigned or appointed to head up a department or an organization. But a leader has to be chosen by the followers. A leader is not a leader without followers. A manager can follow a cookie-cutter process to manage a department or a franchised store. But a leader is a lot more than just the person in charge.
A leader provides long-term vision for the organization. He/she sets priorities, grabs hold of tough problems, sets standards of excellence, imparts a sense of urgency, has exuberant commitment, keeps the big picture in view, provides the ability to deal with failures and is tough while being fair with people. He/she is someone the followers look toward for guidance, problem resolution, comfort, support and help.
Both managers and leaders have some power over their subordinates. (I wrote about the powers of a manager in this column on Aug 19, 2007.) Leaders tend to make use of “referent power” a lot more than managers do.
Leadership is a dynamic relationship between leaders and followers, and it is based on mutual influence and common purpose. In a successful relationship, both leaders and followers benefit in achieving a higher level of motivation and moral development as they affect real and intended change.
Management can be turned into a science by developing methods, processes and rules to manage. But leadership is more art than science and can change significantly with the culture of the organization and the task-relevant maturity of the followers.
So, as you can see, while a manager can be appointed just to head up a group, it takes vision, hard work, courage and skills to become an effective leader. And, leadership can be fragile and easily lost if you let down your followers. A leader must occasionally look behind to see that someone is following.
Retired Gen. and U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell sums this up the best: “Leadership is the art of accomplishing more than the science of management says is possible.”

A lot of people will have a happier Christmas because of your generosity. Also a special thanks to all of the volunteers and, of course, the sponsors who help make this run happen year after year (http://www.toyrun.lmcb.ca/sponsors.html). Unfortunately, due to the poor weather and the conflicting holiday, our numbers were down significantly this year . The number of toys collected was 1,307 and the monetary donations were approximately $14,000.00 the day of the event, which is less than half of what it normally is. If you were unable to make it to the event but would still like to support the Christmas Bureau you can contact Chris Bayliss, ED, directly at (604) 253-7191 or check them out on-line at http://www.lmcb.ca/ Justin Ball of Redcoat Photo was at the ride taking photos which are now available at www.redcoatphoto.com under “Bike Events photos.” Check it out to see if you’re up there! Justin is donating 20% of the gross sales from this event to the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau. This year at the intersection of Barnet and Ioco Road in Port Moody the traffic camera was flashing as the bikes rode through the red light. Chris Bayliss, of the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau, has discussed this with the Port Moody police department and we do not anticipate having this problem next year. ADLY MOTO LLC INTRODUCES ALL NEW TITAN 300 SHAFT DRIVE PTO EQUIPPED WATER-COOLED UTILITY ATV–Adly Moto also announces the arrival of the Italian designed Roxon brand.ADLY MOTO announced today the introduction of an all new 4X4 utility shaft drive ATV. According to Terry Nesbitt, Adly Moto VP, “we will formally introduce the latest edition to our product line at the GIE EXPO (Louisville Lawn and Garden Show) October 25-27. The Titan 300 with numerous unique features including shaft drive water-cooled 4-valve head engine with ceramic coated cylinder, all wheel independent torsion bar suspension, and an industry first secondary dual-range transmission with PTO is the beginning of a new segment in the ATV industry.
This state of the art new design utilizes a dual-range CVT along with a secondary dual-range transmission with front and rear differentials resulting in a mutli-faceted ATV with excellent towing capacity as well as the potential to obtain reasonable speeds. The secondary transmission provides 2.5 times more torque in order to maximize load capacity and reduce CVT wear.
The Adly Moto PTO System and separate disc brake offers many unique opportunities including an industry first shaft drive Power Trailer (900 pound load capacity) with an independent differential, hydraulic dump bed and independent suspension; ATV and Power Trailer become a 6 X 6. The PTO is quick disconnect and the differential compensates for L/R wheel speed thereby shortening the turning radius and enhancing the overall handling characteristics.”
Nesbitt also states, “Adly Moto is now the exclusive distributor for the Roxon brand. The Roxon Bullet 125 Dirt Bike is an Italian designed product with an excellent reputation for performance, quality and style. The Bullet 125 utilizes a girder type frame with numerous alloy and billet component parts and is available in both Dirt Bike and Super Moto styles.”

BIKERNET ALASKAN ADVENTURE COMING– Testing which Buells, the Uly & TT?? What is that place (Fleet Center) where you get your project bikes?? Is that a H-D demo distribution deal for the Magazines out in Ca.?? We just got a 08′ Buell Uly in. One of the mechanics here bought it. Sold his Dyna for the cash to buy it!! The Uly would be a great ride for you goin to Alaska. You won’t be as cramped as the M2 Badlands Buell was.
For me, I like the Kawi KLR. Best bang for the buck around!! A used Buell blast bought cheap would make a great Dual Sport Project. I also like a mid to late 90’s Sportster with Dual Sport suspension.
We had a customer take a Sportster, setup as a Dual Sport to Alaska. It had BMW type off road bags on it. He also carried a extra rear tires, tools etc. with him. The guy was a local from Charlotte in his ’60s!!

HELMET RALLIES WERE THE PATH TO FREEDOM–How may helmet laws have been repealed in the last 10 years (not counting the perversion of principal in accepting insurance compromise, such as in Florida, Kentucky and Texas)? We repealed something like 29 state laws in 1977 and ’78.
A call to action is needed and it’s needed now. Even more necessary is for leadership to stop resisting these actions which have worked in the past and will work now. The membership has been corralled long enough. Turn the people loose and lead them to the streets. Wake up the legislature in your state to the fact the “people” effected by helmet laws don’t want them.

RED WING MOTORCYCLES LAUNCHED BY AEROSMITH FRONT MAN–RED Wing Motorcycles is the name of the new custom motorcycle manufacturing business founded by Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler in collaboration with engineer Mark Dirico and AC Custom Motorcycles.A press release from the company states: “Red Wing Motorcycles are the fusion of rock and roll artistry and superior engineering. Imbued with Tyler’s sense of style, each motorcycle is as comfortable to ride as it is sexy.”
Red Wing Motorcycles debuted its new designs, the Retro and ProStreet models, at the New Hampshire International Speedway’s Sylvania 300, and they are now available from Manchester and Nashua, New Hampshire Harley-Davidson dealerships.
Talking about the bikes he designed, Tyler said: “You get on one of these bikes and you can ride for days. These bikes are sick, rugged, and just damn cool, and they’re amazing to look at!”
Each bike is backed by an extensive warranty and can be fully serviced by local Harley dealers. Bikes will be available in partnership with select dealerships across the East Coast through 2008 with a national-roll out planned later that year.

TATTOO BIKE HELPS WOUNDED WARRIORS– Bandit got on the horn, “Hey I need more details on the auction of Brass Balls Bobbers’ tattoo bobber and the Wounded Warrior Project for Thursday the news.”
I wiped the drool off my mouth and the sleep from my eyes as I put the bottle of Jack on the floor before it spilled. “Ok, ok, ok? “Limme think, the auction is underway and someone is going to get the tattoo bobber that was built on Speed’s V-Twin TV he/she show and will be profiled in January 2008 Easyriders Magazine.
I don’t know anything about the Wounded Warrior Project except that some of the proceeds of the Brass Balls Bobbers eBay auction go to this charity,” I said to Bandit. “Well get to it and get me the info asap!”
So I called Catherine Pillsbury at the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) and found out that it is run by a bunch of gung-ho Bandit-types with programs to help service members and their families immediately following injury, and during their convalescence and rehabilitation.
After I got the details I shot Bandit an email with a link to the WWP that I put up in the BBB department. I also sent him a link on the Brass Balls Bobber Tattoo Bobber on eBay.

What the hell?
There’s more going on than I could shake an 80-spoke wheel at. Biketoberfest is scrambling, Bike clubs are leaving the Hawaiian Islands, another new motorcycle manufacturer is starting, a town in Florida tried to outlaw bikes and new bike products are popping up everywhere.
Of course Bikernet is trying to make all these transitions as easy as possible. We’re working with JIMS machine to bring you all the special tools you need to accomplish your job. Watch for the techs coming up.
Let’s hit the news, I’ve got to jump on a plane for Hawaii to check out the club scene and be there for Deacon’s Grand Opening of Pro Street Custom Cycles on the Windward side on Sunday the 21st from 1-5. I’m going to bring a batch of photos of the Assalt Weapan, if you want a shot of the World’s Fastest Panhead signed by the guy who swept the shop on Wednesdays-no problem. Let’s hit the news:

IS CARB (CALIFORNIA AIR RESOURCES BOARD) OUT OF CONTROL?–I spoke to Todd Erdmann today (Owner of TMCC, Thunder Mountain Custom Motorcycles) about the CARB settlement he just paid (See below). It was just as I thought. TMCC inadvertently sent ’07 motorcycles to CA dealers with ’06 engines and ’06 CARB engine labeling. It was an oversight, not an intentional action. Todd believes a disgruntled past employee contacted CARB to blow the whistle. The motorcycles had the proper pollution control equipment, but the wrong engine label and the ’07 paperwork wasn’t submitted. In effect, TMCC paid $257,000 for a paperwork and labeling error. There never was a pollution issue. Adding more pain to this situation, TMCC’s San Diego, Orange County and San Clemente dealers canceled their TMCC franchise, even though TMCC paid all of CARB’s fines against its CA dealers. It is my opinion that CARB is out of control and will not stop their collection of ill-gotten gains until the industry fights back… HARD. They don’t care about air quality as much as they care about collecting fines. When are we going to say enough is enough? SEMA just won a fight with CA where the state wanted to do annual tests on 15-year old and older vehicles. I think we need to join forces with SEMA, the combination of the MIC and SEMA could be formidable.Additionally, there are a few good senators who want to float a bill to protect the vintage car and rodding community. They hope to pass Federal legislature that provides a path to build and title these vehicles. Why can’t we support them in their fight and add motorcycles to the mix?I recommend that the MIC discuss this matter in the next meetings of the MIC Aftermarket Committee and American V-Twin Committee.
GoTo: http://www.arb.ca.gov/enf/casesett/casesett.htm for an update on the settlements CARB has collected. Note the $1,000,000 settlement against Dynojet. I believe Dynojet is still an MIC member. How many more MIC members will pay the price of a corrupt CARB?

NEW FUEL INJECTION TUNING FROM S&S EZFI–Sometimes you just need a little extra help in tuning a bike. The addition of a high flow air cleaner and slip-on mufflers or a complete exhaust system can alter the flow characteristics of a fuel injected bike just enough to make the air/fuel ratio less than desirable. Adding or subtracting fuel is a necessity, but the minimal amount may not be enough to justify a complete fuel injection system replacement. This is where the S&S EZFI comes into play.
With simple adjustments handled with buttons and a screwdriver, you can add fuel where your bike needs it-and remove fuel where you don’t! Additionally the S&S EZFI impacts only fuel delivery, it makes no changes to the other stock ECM functions like turn signals, instruments or safety functions.
This add-on module is waterproof, requires no crimping or soldering of wires for installation and has available software (EZTune software) that allows you to custom tune separate front and rear cylinder maps using the S&S diagnostic cable (PN 55-1271). The EZFI is available to fit all Harley-Davidson motorcycles equipped with Delphi? fuel-injection including closed-loop models.

Guy Behind the counter says, “Male or female?”
Customer says, “Female.”

Counter guy says, “The Muslim one blows itself up.”
FORK TRUSS SUPPORTS FROM CCE–Our fork truss is truly a performance part. It dramatically improves front-end handling. The engineering design and sleek styling are obvious characteristics in this part. The compound arc, which sweeps upward and rearward simultaneously, imparts greater resistance to deflection, twisting and bending of the fork. The upward arch also provides additional fender clearance. The addition of large diameter holes spaced out to a maximum strength calculation helps keep unsprung weight to a minimum.
Installation is very simple and the disassembly of the front-end is not necessary. These trusses are designed to bolt securely to the lower sliders. Trusses are machined out of solid billet aluminum and can be purchased in a polished or chrome finish.

When I was on deployment the only way I ever got to see choppers and bobbers was through your website and through the Horse Backstreet Choppers. I had my mother send the magazines to me every month. Now that I’m in California, I’ll be here for 3 yrs, as a Navy Instructor teaching Electrical Construction, I almost got sent to Iraq but lucky for me someone else filled the spot. FLORIDA BIKE DEAL OF THE WEEK–Thought maybe you could post this somewhere for us.It’s a gorgeous bike and needs a new home.He will deliver!
It’s called Burnt Sunshine.Richard Castagna got a good deal on the whole drive train and motor kit from Southern Motorcycles Works out of Virginia for his next build. He haughtily speaks that the 2005 Ultima 113 inch motor along with its sister Ultima six speed transmission that pulls more torque, is less problematical and was much less expensive than the countless kits he researched before he purchased anything. Then he added a super G S&S carb for absolutely no breathing problems, a HI-4 Crane ignition and some swap meet specials like the exhaust pipes, lower legs and a freebie headlight, Richard was ready to rock and roll on this metal flake copper chopper.
There’s a hint of influence from the early Billy Lane days. This ride is indeed, modern and yes, different. Check out the low lying handlebars, reminiscent of the ones seen on a Discovery Channel Build Off between Lane and Indian Larry. They are, along with the fuel tank and rear fender, all one-of-a-kind pieces from South Florida fabricator Jerry Graves. The frame is also modified by Graves, with its geometric holes in the front slanted down tube. Also traditional cool, and space saving, is the oil tank in the front half of the rear fender which significantly opens up the space between motor and frame. A Brighton frame never looked so fresh.
Richard has live in South Florida since 1974. He opened his own tattoo shop in 1998. Knowledgeable and consistent about being healthy, Richard has been a body builder for several years, and says he’s fighting the aging process all the way! His new age heavy metal custom chop is a lot of entertainment for the man who actually built it in his garage. It turns a lot of heads, and Richard’s unassuming demeanor by no means falters at all the attention. His girlfriend, Jerilyn Scott, enjoys spending time with her man, whether it’s at the tattoo shop, on the road or posing for these pictures.
Richard credits John McAteer at Red Devil Cycles in Stuart with help in the “very little” wiring process. The alligator seat is from local upholstery master Scott Valentine, of Dead Animal Seats. Its real alligator and sits nicely solo atop the custom frame. The only good gator is a dead gator.
Richard wants to acknowledge Jerry Graves for all his skillful works and Chris McKevitt for laying down the metal flake House of Kolor Mother of the Sea Creature Pearl and Orange which reminds Richard of those early sixties toilet seats.
It is now for sale so he can build yet another piece of riding pie. You can own it when you call Richard’s cell at 772-215-7180 or Gothic City in Stuart, Florida 772-288-1633. Tell him I sent you.

THE BIKERNET VETENERY CLINIC SEMINAR– A little girl asked her Mom, ‘Mom, may I take the dog for a walk around the block?’
Mom replies, ‘No, because she is in heat.’
‘What’s that mean?’ asked the child.
‘Go ask your father. I think he’s in the garage.’
The little girl goes to the garage and says, ‘Dad, may I take Belle for a walk around the block? I asked Mom, but she said the dog was in heat, and to come to you.’
Dad said, ‘Bring Belle over here.’ He took a rag, soaked it with gasoline, and scrubbed the dog’s backside with it to disguise the scent, and said ‘OK, you can go now, but keep Belle on the leash and only go one time round the block.’
The little girl left and returned a few minutes later with no dog on the leash.
Surprised, Dad asked, ‘Where’s Belle?’
The little girl said, ‘She ran out of gas about halfway down the block, so another dog is pushing her home.’

TRANSFERABLE PLATES FOR MOTORCYCLES IN CANADA–In November of 2003 after presenting a proposal to ICBC, the B.C. Coalition of Motorcyclists and Blair Lekstrom, M.L.A. Peace River South were told that transferable plates for motorcyclists were “doable” and would be available in January 2005. After sending out press releases to that effect the Coalition was then informed that with the take over of the B.C. Utility Commission as the new regulator of ICBC the deal was off.
The Transferable Plate Program consists of strict rules to which motorcyclists must adhere to be eligible, for further info go to www.bccom-bc.com. Over the winter we are going to be pushing very hard to try and make this happen. If you would like to see this program implemented please sign our petition to be presented to the Provincial Government, The Honorable John Les, Solicitor General and Minister of ICBC, and the Insurance Corporation of B.C.
The petition will be available at the BCCOM booth at the Vancouver Toy Run on October 7th. If you are unable to attend the Toy Run we will also have the petition available at different events that we are attending coming up, including the Vancouver Motorcycle Show, January 24-27 at the Tradex in Abbotsford. If you are not planning to attend either of these events yet feel that you could get 100 signatures or more in your community. Please let us know and we can send you the forms. TEXAS NATIONAL BIKE SHOW MOVED TO NOBLIQUE STUDIOS– Not a typical gallery, not a typical studio, not typical at all really, the Nic Noblique Studio Gallery is an environment to inspire, educate, and simply enrich the community in a provocative, raw, and utterly uninhibited way. New to Galveston Island, Nic Noblique has relocated his art studio from Abilene, Texas to a 5,000 square foot warehouse space at 2527 Mechanic Street. More than just Noblique?s personal studio space, the warehouse contains a huge gallery showroom, skate ramp, and tattoo studio. As he explains, “this space is really the culmination of everything I enjoy, everything that inspires me” the studio gallery is an extension of everything that makes me tick and I want anyone and everyone to just come and explore and look at art and what art is from a broader lense.
The studio gallery?s most recent addition is The Tattoo Uprising by renowned Tattoo Artist Teri Turrentine, hailing from Northern California, now opening the third and most unique Tattoo Studio of her professional career of 14-years. Tattoo Uprising is located inside the Nic Noblique Studio Gallery in its own sculptural building designed and built by Noblique and Turrentine to mimic the motion and flow of the giant steel sculptures that grace the main floor of the gallery.
Things are really shaping up this year, we have open registration going on as we speak
See you at the show!

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration has funded an expensive pay-as-you-drive research, development, and evaluation project with the thought to implementing such a program in the not-too-distant future.

BIKERNET EDITOR DISCOVERS OSAMA BIN LADEN–While trying to escape through Pakistan, Osama Bin Laden found a bottle on the sand and picked it up.Suddenly, a female Genie rose from the bottle and with a smile said, “Master, may I grant you one wish?”
Osama responded, “You ignorant, unworthy daughter-of-a-dog! Don’t you know who I am? I don’t need any common woman giving me anything.”
The shocked Genie said, “Please, I must grant you a wish or I will be returned to the bottle forever!”
Osama thought a moment, then grumbled about the impertinence of the woman and said, “Very well, I want to awaken with three American women in my bed in the morning. So just do it and be off with you.”
The annoyed Genie said, “So be it!” and disappeared.
The next morning Bin Laden woke up in bed with Lorena Bobbitt, Tonya Harding, and Hillary Clinton at his side. His penis was gone, his knees were broken, and he had no health insurance!

CANADIAN RIDERS SURVIVES RUN HOME FROM ARIZONA SMOKE OUT–Hey man, I finally made it home. Awesome trip with great weather the whole way, until around Seattle, then it got wet, but no biggy on the road soffa.
I will send a few of the shots I took via email, and then put them all on a disk and shoot them off in the next day or so. I came home through Zion Park, man that place is unreal. After leaving Sedona, there was a lady who flopped over dead at a look out I was at, and people doing CPR for like almost an hour. Very sad indeed. Her family was all there by her side when the medics arrived to take over the cpr. It reminded me of how fragile life can be.
Once again, thanks for letting me be part of the adventure. I had an unbelievable trip. Got to meet some great people, and hanging with Bandit and crew for a few days was the best.
I am working on a couple of stories. One about the sidecar adventure with the kids, and another about the Smokeout. I will shoot them to you asap.
Watching the rain pour down from my office window, dreaming of cruizing the AZ desert…

SHE WAS A TEN AT TWO AND A TWO AND TEN–Wait till you read the Smoke Out report from the road leading from Parker, Arizona to Cottonwood, Arizona. We’ve got some slick slogans, wild stories and dusty boots.
This weekend I plan to run through all the Bonneville 2007 chapters and make sense outta them for the Wolfgang book. That’s the major project, but we have some other surprises including a monster Softail Tech from the Wolfgang book mentioned in the news. We also have two new Girls of Bikernet waiting in the wings. Do you want the blonde hottie on the European chopper or another tortured and tattooed broad from Denver? What’s Curt do to these broads?
Plus I’ll work with Lee Clemens on a Bonne Belle tech, and I’m waiting for some info from John Green and some shots of Ralph Randolph’s Knockout bike. Steve Blevins won it at the ER Chillocothe Rodeo and it’s a sharp scooter. More features are coming from the Troll family and Route 66 Choppers, an Australian builder, plus a wild Japanese built H-D Shovelhead from right here in LA. Hang on.
Hell, the W8less rotors are in. We have a Smoke Out Torrian Vest road test and a set of travelin’ tools from Starwest. Did I say slow down?
Let’s ride
